TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING AND HIS COUSIN IN THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT AT 78 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE, LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, HIT A FIRE HYDRANT AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IT WAS UNKNOWN THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED WHICH RESULTED WITH LACERATION ON THE ANTERIOR RIGHT SIDE, THERE WERE BILATERAL WRIST FRACTURE, FRACTURE TO THE RIGHT FEMUR AND LEFT KNEE. THERE WAS AN AORTIC LACERATION AND MULTIPLE BILATERAL LUNG LACERATIONS AND CARDIAC CONTUSIONS, AUTOPSY ALSO REVELED FIRST TO FORTH DEGREE FIRMS BURNS WITH CHARRING ON APPROXIMATELY 70% OF THE BODY SURFACE AREA, THERE WERE THERMAL FRACTURES TO THE SKULL AND BOTH THE HANDS. THE DRIVER WAS REPORTED DEAD AT THE SCENE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED A HEAD INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EVERETT TURNPIKE IN NH. THERE WAS A SOCCER NET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME HAD STOPPED AND I TRIED TO STOP, BUT BECAUSE MY POWER STEERING WAS OUT ALONG WITH MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. I COULDN'T STOP. I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND MY AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. LUCKILY THE ONLY DAMAGE DONE WAS PSYCHOLOGICAL. IF I WERE AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER THAN I WOULD HAVE DIED.. I HAVE ALREADY HAD MY POWER STEERING FIXED ONCE AND NOW IT HAS BEEN RECALLED AGAIN. THE CAR AS A WHOLE SHOULD BE RECALLED. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT AFTER THEY FIX A PROBLEM THAT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED TWICE. *JS

MY 2008 CHEVY COBALT LT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS STEERING. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE THE POWER STEERING UNIT IS BUT IT ACTS LIKE IT IS LOW ON POWER STEERING FLUID, IT IS A STRUGGLE TO TURN SOMETIMES. *JS

I RECENTLY ACQUIRED THIS VEHICLE, THE PRIOR OWNER PUT BLACK TAPE OVER AIR BAG DEFECTIVE MESSAGE. I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2014, IT STATES THE OWNER WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL INVOLVING THE IGNITION EFFECTING THE AIR BAGS. THE LISTING CODES NOT INDICATE WHETHER THE RECALL/ VEHICLE WAS EVER SERVICED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I TEND TO THINK IT WAS NEVER DONE. I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DETERMINE, THE INCIDENT DESCRIBES THE CONSEQUENCE: IF THE KEY IS NOT IN THE RUN POSITION, THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN A CRASH, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY. MY GAS TANK IS CRACKED AND HAS BEEN LEAKING FUEL. THE FUMES ARE BAD ENOUGH BY ITSELF BUT ITS ALSO A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. CONTACTED GM AND EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL IS CLEARLY STATED ONLINE FOR MY CAR GM WILL NOT FIX THEIR MISTAKE. *JS
MY 2008 COBALT IGNITION LOCKED UP WHILE PARKED. CAR WAS TOWED TO CHEVROLET AND THEY SWITCHED IT OUT. HAD NO ABILITY TO TURN KEY, WHEEL OR ANYTHING. EVERYTHING LOCKED UP COMPLETELY. I FINALLY GOT MY CHEVROLET COBALT BACK (2 MONTHS) FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH A BRAND NEW KEY FOR THE IGNITION. WENT TO GET INTO THE CAR AND THEY DIDN'T SWITCH THE DOOR LOCKS. NOW THEY CUT CORNERS AND REFUSE TO PAY FOR OR CHANGE MY DOOR LOCKS SO I HAVE TO CARRY AROUND 2 SEPARATE KEYS. I HAVE CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAY IT IS MY FAULT. I HAVE HEARD OF SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF COBALTS OR OWNERS OF CHEVROLETS THAT HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN. *TR
TAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN,POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING,MAKING IT HARD TO CONTINUE MAKING THE TURN. THIS IS NOW HAPPENING EVERY DAY AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE KEY LOCKED CAUSING CAR TO ROLL FORWARD. I ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE KEY BUT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS DISABLED. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART AUTO UNTIL JUMP STARTING IT. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED AND THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF WARNING APPEARED. ADDITIONALLY, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT INDICATED IT WAS OFF. NO INJURIES OCCURRED AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP WHEN INCIDENT HAPPENED. WHEN DRIVING MY AUTO TO THE DEALER, I NOTICED THE RPM REACHED 4500 AT ABOUT 50 MPH. GM HAS BEEN UNABLE TO PROVIDE QUALITY CUSTOMER SERVICE OR RESOLUTIONS ON THE IGNITION RECALL. I SUBMITTED MY SERVICE REQUEST IN APRIL UPON RECEIVING THE NOTIFICATION OF THE RECALL. RECENTLY, THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN, WHICH WAS PART OF THE KEY IGNITION THAT HAS BEEN IN THE MEDIA. THE CONSUMER SPENT $1200 FOR REPAIRS AND NOTIFIED CHEVROLET ABOUT THE SITUATION AND REIMBURSEMENT. *JB

WHILE DRIVING THE IGNITION SWITCH TURNED OFF AND I HAD NO POWER TO STEER THE CAR.
I WAS DRIVING MY CHEVY COBALT WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE GAS STATION I COULD NOT TURN OFF THE CAR. THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE DRIVING POSITION AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. I THEN PROCEEDED TO GO TO MY FATHER'S HOUSE TO TRY AND HAVE HIM HELP ME REMOVE THE KEY AND SHUT OFF THE CAR. HE WAS NOT ABLE TO AS WELL. I THEN CALLED A CHEVROLET DEALER LOCATED ON SW 152 ST IN MIAMI, FL WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A RECALL PROBLEM AND THAT I SHOULD;D BRING IN THE VEHICLE BUT THAT IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT A WEEK TO FIX. ON THE WAY THERE, MY CAR BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. I THEN PULLED OVER AND TRIED AGAIN TO ATTEMPT TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND REMOVE THE KEY. THE CAR REACHED 300 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AND SOON AFTER SHUT OFF, LEAVING ME STRANDED WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC IN HIALEAH, FL WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN DUE TO THE CAR OVERHEATING. I THEN CALLED GM AND EXPLAINED THIS TO THEM, I THEN WAS ADVISED TO CALL THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MIAMI LAKES CHEVROLET. THE CAR HAS SINCE BEEN TOWED THERE AS I WAS TOLD THE CAR WOULD NEED TO BE DIAGNOSED. HOWEVER, MIAMI LAKES CHEVROLET IS NOW HASSLING ME THAT THEY CAN NOT TOUCH MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS A REBUILT TITLE VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH I HAVE REPEATEDLY EXPLAINED THAT HAD MY CAR BEEN ABLE TO BE CUT OFF THEN IT WOULD NOT HAVE OVERHEATED TO IT'S MAXIMUM AND I WOULD STILL HAVE A VEHICLE. I AM VERY UPSET AS I WAS UNAWARE OF THE KEY IGNITION RECALL AND I AM NOW LEFT CARLESS WHICH IS MY LIVIHOOD FOR MY KIDS AND FAMILY AS WELL AS I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE WHICH IS NOT FUNCTIONING DUE TO A RECALL I HAD NOT CLUE ABOUT! *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 55 MPH AND DROVE OVER A POT HOLE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO CRASH INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPLODE, CAUSING FATAL INJURIES TO A PASSENGER. THE DRIVER WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE WITHIN SECONDS OF THE EXPLOSION HOWEVER, THE PASSENGER COULD NOT BE RESCUED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT OF SEVERE BRUISING, LACERATIONS AND FRACTURES TO BOTH LEGS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. WAS DRIVING OVER TO A FRIENDS HOUSE GOT PULLED OVER FOR A FRONT HEADLIGHT BEING OUT. FOUND OUT ITS THE SAME HEADLIGHT I REPLACED 3 MONTHS AGO AND THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT I HAVE WITH THIS CARS LIGHTS EVERY 3 TO 4 MONTHS. ITS EITHER THE FRONT HEADLIGHT BULBS NEED TO BE REPLACE OR REAR LIGHT BULBS NEED TO BE REPLACE AND I CAN NOT PLUG IN A CAR CHARGE FOR MY PHONE CAUSE OF A BURNING SMELL THAT COMES FROM SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE CAR. I HAD THIS INVESTIGATED BY THREE PEOPLE WHO SERVICE CARS AND THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM THEY TELL ME TO BRING IT TO THE DEALER. *TR

THE CONTACT LATER NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING ON AND NOTICED MY CAR 'STUTTERING' AS FEW MOMENTS AT A TIME. AFTER I PROCEEDED FROM A STOP POSITION AND CONTINUED OFF THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR DASHBOARD BEGAN TO LIGHT UP, ALMOST AS IF IT WAS SHORTENING OUT. THE SPEEDOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, AND MY RPM KEPT MOVING BACK AND FORTH QUICKLY. THERE WERE MULTIPLE MESSAGES FLASHING SUCH AS POWERSTEERING, LOW TRACTION, NO TRACTION. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ANTITHEFT LIGHT, AND THE TRACTION LIGHT KEPT FLASHING. THEN I LOST POWER STEERING AND MY CAR ULTIMATELY 'DIED' ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. *TR

MY CAR IS PART OF THE GM RECALL. I HAVE 2 PARTS ON MY CAR WHICH ARE TO BE REPLACED BY GM. MY CAR HAS BEEN SHUTTING OFF AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MY GRANDMOTHER WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL HER GAUGES WENT NUTS AND IT STARTED SHIFTING HARD. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND CODES READ WERE U2105, U0073, THEY SAY THEY REPLACED TERMINALS. ONE DAY LATER SAME THING HAPPENED SO I TOOK MY CODE READER AND IT READ U0073. WE TOOK IT BACK TOLD THEM ABOUT CODE AND I TOLD THEM TO CHECK TERMINALS AGAIN AND FUSES. THEY CALL LATER AND STATED THAT THE OTHER COMPUTER WENT OUT, SO GRANDMOTHER PAID ANOTHER 400. TWO DAYS LATER ITS DOING IT AGAIN. I HAVE A 04 IMPALA THAT HAD THE SAME ISSUES MINE WAS NO START AND CHEVY COULDN'T FIND PROBLEM IT STARTED FINE FOR THEM, BUT AFTER 2 DAYS EVERYTHING STARTED BREAKING, AND AS A SINGLE MOM W NO MONEY I HAD TO RESEARCH EVERY CODE READ AND LEARNED TO FIX IT. I KNOW EVERY WIRE AND WHICH COMPUTER READS FIRST, SO CHEVY IS GOING TO HAVE A RUDE AWAKING ON MONDAY. I BELIEVE CHEVY CANT FIX THESE COMPUTERS AND THEY JUST CLEAR THE CODES AND OFF U GO UNTIL YOUR CAR REPROGRAMS ITS SELF AND SAME PROBLEMS TAKE EFFECT, BUT I'M SURE ITS DUE TO ANOTHER COMPUTER GOING OUT, AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT CHEVY WOULD AND WILL SAY!!! *TR
IN NOVEMBER 2013 MY VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL GOT STUCK AT WORK. IT TOOK A COUPLE OF TIMES ON TURNING THE KEY TO TURN ON THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENED 4 MORE TIMES AND I DECIDED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE VARA CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER. I TOLD THE LADY THAT WAS HELPING ME WHAT HAPPENED TO TO THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2013 AND SHE TOLD ME TO LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT IN ORDER FOR THEM TO CHECK THE VEHICLE. WHEN I PICKED IT UP THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. I TOLD HER THAT IT HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND I KNEW IT WAS A PROBLEM. SHE TOLD ME THEN I GUESS WHEN THE CARS STEERING WHEEL GETS STUCK AGAIN YOU'LL HAVE TO BRING IT IN HOW IT IS. I ASKED HER IF THERE WAS ANY RECALLS AND SHE SAID NO. I THOUGHT THEN MAYBE THEN THERE ISN'T NOTHING WRONG. IN FEBRUARY 2014 MY HUSBAND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE IT SERVICED AND THEN WHEN HE PARKED IT AT THE SERVICE CENTER THEY WERE GOING TO MOVE IT INSIDE THE SHOP AND IT GOT STUCK LIKE IT HAD DONE TO US BEFORE. THE SERVICE MEMBERS THEN WERE UNABLE TO TURN IT ON OR MOVE IT. THEY PUT ROLLS UNDER THE WHEELS AND SAID THEY WERE GOING TO CHECK IT THERE. WHEN WE PICKED IT UP AFTER THREE DAYS THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. MY HUSBAND AND ME NEVER ASKED WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT AS LONG AS THEY FIXED. I STARTED THEN HEARING ON THE NEWS ABOUT THE RECALLS ON GENERAL MOTORS WITH IGNITION PROBLEMS ON COBALTS UP TO THE YEAR 2007 AND THE COMPLAINTS. IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO US BUT THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS IT WAS A 2008. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE MIGHT BE OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME VEHICLES WITH OTHER YEARS. IF THE SERVICE CENTER KNEW THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLES AND RECALLS WHY DIDN'T THEY VOICE CONCERNS TO THEIR MANAGEMENT OR TO US. TRIED TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT HOME TO GO TO WORK. COULD NOT TURN WHEELS AT ALL. HAD CAR TOWED TO CHAPMAN CHEVROLET BECAUSE MY BOTHER, WHO IS A MECHANIC, ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR. AFTER CHAPMAN RECEIVED THE CAR THEY BLAMED PROBLEM ON STEERING COLUMN AND WOUND UP CHARGING ME $960.73 TO REPLACE IT. MY BROTHER ADVISED ME THAT POWER STEERING UNIT IS PART OF POWER STEERING OPERATION. INFORMATION SYSTEM ON DASH BOARD SAID POWER SYSTEM FAILURE. FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING TO WORK AS I COULD NOT HAVE HANDLED THE CAR AND WOULD HAVE HAS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED. CHAPMAN CHEVROLET IN TEMPE AZ SAID THAT STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CHARGED $970 TO REPLACE IT. MAY 26 THE POWER STEERING AGAIN FAILED AND THIS TIME THERE WAS A RECALL FOR ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS UNDER RECALL AND PARTS UNAVAILABLE. ABOUT A MONTH AND 1/2 LATE REPAIRS WERE MADE. AUGUST 2,2014 AGAIN FAILED AND .AGAIN POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS REPLACED. CHAPMAN CHEVROLET AND GM ARE REFUSING TO PAY FOR THE ORIGINAL AMOUNT PAID FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN EVEN THOUGH THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED ON NUMEROUS GM CARS INCLUDING 2010 COBALTS,, 2004/05/06/08/09 MALIBUS, SATURN AURA 2008/09, CHEV HHR 2009/10,. IT IS PROBABLY THE SAME STEERING COLUMN USED IN ALL THESE VEHICLES INCLUDING THE 2008 COBALT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A 3 LANE HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE LANE ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE BY ENTERING THE FAR LEFT LANE WHEN I NOTICED A CAR IN MY BLIND SPOT. I OVERCORRECTED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO NAVIGATE BACK INTO MY ORIGINAL LANE OF TRAVEL. MY CAR BEGAN FISHTAILING, I SPUN AROUND 2 TIMES WHILE CROSSING OVER 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND HIT THE RIGHT SIDE GUARD RAIL ALMOST HEAD ON AT 40 MPH. I WENT BACK INTO TRAFFIC AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE SIDE PANEL AND CAME TO REST WITH MY CAR NORTHBOUND IN THE SOUTHBOUND TRAFFIC THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN THE CRASH, WHICH I FOUND CONCERNING WITH THE AMOUNT OF FRONT END DAMAGE THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED. FUEL PUMP HARNESS CAUGHT FIRE. CONTACTED GM ABOUT 2012 RECALL THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT. EXPLAINED TO GM THAT THE MECHANIC THAT WORKED ON THE COBALT SAID FUEL HARNESS CAUGHT FIRE DO TO TOO MUCH POWER AT START UP. AND EXPLAINED TO GM THAT WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO START THE CAR THE WHEEL WOULD LOCK. GMWAS VERY RUDE ALL THE SAID WAS TAKE OTHER KEYS OFF RING AND WOULD NOT FIX AT THE TIME THE IGNITION. AND WOULDN'T REIMBURSE THE COST OF THE FUEL PUMP. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, SHE CALLED GOLD RUSH AND ASKED IF HER CAR WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. SHE WAS TOLD NO. ON THE FIRST OF MAY, 2014, I CALLED GOLD RUSH AND WAS TOLD THAT VIRGINIA SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO VERIFY THE VIN #. I DO SO AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THAT THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED AND WOULD ARRIVE IN TWO TO FIVE WEEKS. ON 6/11, VIRGINIA CALLED GOLD RUSH AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS ORDERED ON 6/1. SHE CALL AGAIN ON 6/17 AND GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. I CALLED 7/3 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS ORDERED 5/1 NOT 6/1. 2008 CHEVY COBALT DIED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70 MPH. NO WARNING JUST STOPPED DEAD. NO POWER STEERING. CAR WAS ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD. A FEW MINUTES LATER CAR STARTED UP NORMALLY. IF THERE HAD BEEN ANYONE BEHIND THE CAR THE INDIVIDUAL WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2008 COBALT. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR FIXED TWICE WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT IS CORRECT. HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND ADVISE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
