WHILE DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE ON A MULTIPLE LANE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THE DRIVER ON MY RIGHT CHANGED LANES INTO MY LANE. ON MY LEFT WAS A CONCRETE BARRIER WITHOUT ENOUGH ROOM FOR ME TO AVOID THE OTHER DRIVER. I AGGRESSIVELY APPLIED THE BRAKES TO TRY AND AVOID THE OTHER VEHICLE. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE HAS ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKES), THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE LOCKED UP AND PULLED ME INTO THE CONCRETE BARRIER. AT NO TIME IN THE LIFE OF MY CAR HAVE I GOTTEN ANY INDICATION THAT THE ABS SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. IN THIS SITUATION I WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER OFF NOT HAVING ABS THAN HAVING THE SYSTEM ONLY TO HAVE IT MALFUNCTION ON JUST ONE WHEEL. *TR
2008 COBALT, GAVE US NO INDICATION OF PROBLEMS. NOW DEALER IS SAYING THIS 5 YEAR OLD CAR MAY HAVE SLIPPED IT'S TIMING BELT AND DESTROYED IT'S HEAD AND VALVES REQUIRING A NEW MOTOR. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE CHEVY DOES NOT RECOMMEND TIMING CHAIN MAINTENANCE AT A SET MILEAGE. IT'S SUPPOSED TO LAST. THE FACT THAT SUCH A BIG ENGINE FAILURE CAN HAPPEN TO SO MANY OF THESE CARS JUST 5 MONTH AFTER WARRANTY END AT 90 THOUSAND MILES MAKES THIS A DESIGN FLAW IN MY OPINION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT PLACED THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL AFTER THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
MY MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE WITH MY 2008 COBALT LT IS THAT MY ENGINE IS GONE WHICH I THINK IS HORRIBLE AND I PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER AND HAVE TAKING VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE, I WILL NEVER BUY A GM PRODUCT AGAIN, THROUGH READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS I CANT BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN RECALLED MY CAR STARTED SHAKING REALLY BAD, AND MAKING A LOUD TICKING NOISE, IT WAS VERY HARD TO STOP AND ALSO STEER MY VEHICLE I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A VERY FATAL CRASH OR ANYTHING! MY CAR ALSO HAS THE SAME ISSUE ABOUT THE SPEAKERS THEY GO IN AND OUT AND WORK WHEN THEY WANT TO. BUT MY MAIN ISSUE IS MY ENGINE IN WHICH MY CAR I IS LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME, WHICH I BELIEVE IS TOTALLY ABSURD CONSIDERING IM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T WORK, AND IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD, SO BASICALLY THAT MEANS TO ME THEY WILL COVER YOUR CAR FOR 5 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES THEN YOUR JUST ON YOUR OWN WHICH IS HORRIBLE, TO INVEST AND BUY A VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND IT JUST BREAKS DOWN IN THIS MAGNITUDE! I AM VERY UPSET AND DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY AREN'T WILLING TO HELP, SO I WILL BE SUING THEM! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND MAKING A TURN, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
ON 10/2013, I WAS DRIVING ON THE 105 FWY GOING EASTBOUND AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES PER HOUR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AND I NO LONGER COULD ACCELERATE. EAST BOUND TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND CHP OFFICER HAD TO PARK BEHIND ME WITH HIS LIGHTS TO AVOID ME GETTING HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES, SINCE THERE WAS NO SAFETY LANE TO PULL OVER FOR BROKEN DOWN CARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ONE OTHER PLACE BEFORE BEING TOWED TO PENSKE CHEVROLET, 18605 S STUDEBAKER RD., CERRITOS, CA 90703 THE FOLLOWING DAY. IN SHORT, I TOOK MY CAR BACK 3 DIFFERENT TIMES FROM THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TOWED THERE. THEY WOULD FIX ONE PART AND I WOULD LEAVE AND SHORTLY AFTER THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON AND I WOULD RETURN. THEN THEY STATED IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE AND THEY WOULD "FIX IT". THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON ONCE AGAIN. THE LAST AND FINAL TIME I TOOK MY CAR IN THEY REPLACED YET ANOTHER CAR PART AND IN TOTAL I PAID $500.00 DOLLARS IN FEES, NOT TO MENTION TIME LOSS AT WORK AND GAS THEY USE TO DO "LONG TEST DRIVES". TO THIS DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON FROM THE DAY I LEFT PENSKE CHEVROLET. THE MANAGER THERE "[XXX]" IN SHORT STATED THAT THE CAR IS FIXED AND THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON. HE ASSURED ME THE SECOND TO LAST VISIT THAT THIS WOULD BE FIXED AND IT NEVER WAS. THE VEHICLE IS STILL NOT WORKING AS IT DID PRIOR 10/2013. IT CUTS AND DOES NOT ACCELERATES WHEN YOU INITIALLY STEP ON THE GAS. IN ADDITION, THE DOOR LOCKS ARE ELECTRIC AND WHEN I DRIVE THEY POP UP AND DOWN ON THERE OWN. I ALSO WILL LEAVE MY CAR LOCKED AND WHEN I GET BACK THE CAR WILL BE UNLOCKED. THIS ALL BEGAN AFTER I GOT MY VEHICLE BACK FROM PENSKE CHEVROLET OF CERRITOS. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED THE REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRICAL STEERING COLUMN HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74000.
THE VERY FIRST INCIDENT I EXPERIENCED WITH MY POWER STEERING WAS NOTHING MAJOR. I WAS TRYING PARK MY CAR AND IT SUDDENLY BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. I POWERED THE CAR OFF FOR A MINUTE AND THEN RESTARTED IT. ONCE THE CAR WAS RESTARTED THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. SHORTLY AFTER THAT THE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I WAS UNABLE TO GET INTO MY CAR FOR HOURS. AFTER MUCH PRYING, WE WERE ABLE TO GET INTO THE CAR BUT NOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK HAS TO BE LOCKED MANUALLY OR UNLOCKED WITH THE KEY IN DOOR. MONTHS DOWN THE LINE THE POWER STEERING ISSUE CAME BACK BUT ONLY WORSE. IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. A DINGING NOISE WENT OFF, "POWER STEERING" FLASHED ACROSS THE DASHBOARD, AND ALL THE GAUGES WENT WIGGLING. IT STARTLED ME. AGAIN, I PULLED OVER AND CUT THE ENGINE FOR A SPELL AND WAITED. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT WAS LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. THE THIRD TIME WAS THE WORST TIME THUS FAR. I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE NOISE CAME BACK AND FLASHED POWER STEERING. IT WAS MUCH WORSE THIS TIME. THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER, THE CAR ROUGHLY JERKED, AND I COULD NOT EXELERATE. THANKFULLY I MADE IT HOME 5 MINUTES LATER, BUT BY THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON. I FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR WAS RECALLED FOR THIS VERY REASON. WHEN I CALLED CHEVROLET THEY SAID THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNERS HAD TO HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR IN DURING THE RECALL BECAUSE MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE ANY OPEN RECALLS. IF MY CAR WAS TRULY BROUGHT IN FOR THE RECALL THEN WHY IS MY CAR NOT FIXED? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY WHY DO THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR IT? THEY ARE ENDAGERING MY LIFE AS WELL AS OTHERS'. PASSING CARS OFF AS THOUGH THEY ARE FIXED WHEN REALLY THEY ARE NOT IS CRIMINAL AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. IF NEED BE I WILL PAY FOR MY OWN CAR BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER CARS THAT THEY'VE "FIXED"? A YOUNG LADY DIED FROM HER POWER STEERING FAILING AND YOU WOULD THINK THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT WAS OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BUTTON LOCATED ON THE GEAR SHIFTER HOUSING BECAME COMPLETELY DETACHED. IN ADDITION, THE TURN SIGNAL AND WINDSHIELD WIPER MECHANISM FRACTURED UPON ENGAGING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIFTY PERCENT OF THE REPAIR EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
DOOR DOESN'T LATCH WHEN SHUT. ALSO, ON OCCASION, NEITHER THE INSIDE NOR OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE WILL OPEN THE LATCH. IF THERE IS A FIRE, THE DRIVER HAS LITTLE CHANCE OF ESCAPING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INJURY. ALSO THE DOOR CAN OPEN WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. *TR
SLIDING ON SLIPPERY ROAD. FISHTAILED, NOT SURE IF STEERING LOCKED UP. WITH THE FRONT OF MY CAR, HIT ANOTHER CAR IN THE SIDE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. CONCERNED ABOUT THE RECALL WITH THE COBALT AT THIS TIME. *TR
TOOK CAR INTO HAVE IT INSPECTED FOR NOISE COMING FROM THE FROM END TOLD IT WAS THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING AND THAT COBALTS WHERE GOOD FOR THAT PART TO FAIL SO WHY DOES CHEVY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM? *TR
AFTER CLIMBING A STEEP DRIVEWAY, BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN PULLING OUT ONTO MAIN ROAD. BRAKES WOULD STOP BUT CONTINUED TO GO TO FLOOR IF 1) BRAKES WERE PUT ON PART OF THE WAY; RELEASE AND THEN PUT ON TO STOP AGAIN OR 2) FOOT STAYED ON BRAKE PEDAL UPON STOPPING. IT WAS NOT A SUDDEN DROP BUT A CONTINUOUS MOVEMENT OF THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. TOOK TO SOUTHTOWNE CHEVROLET IN NEWNAN, GA AND AFTER A COUPLE OF ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE BRAKES (REPLACING FRONT BRAKES, ETC) A FORMAN RODE WITH ME AND THEY ENDED UP HAVING TO FLUSH THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM TO GET THE BRAKES TO STOP. UPON HEARING OF THE RECALL ON THE MALIBUS THIS MORNING, I FELT LIKE MY COBALT MIGHT HAVE ALSO SUFFERED A POTENTIAL HAZARD IN ITS HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR LOCKS FAILED AND WHILE ENTERING A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY, A SMALL CHILD PASSENGER WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING AND FALL. THE CHILD SUSTAINED LACERATIONS TO THE FACE AS A RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,900.

THE ENGINE LOST POWER MOMENTARILY GOING UP HILL ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY. THEN THE ENGINE STARTED IT'S SELF AND KEPT MOVING. ON A HUMID 80 DEGREE DAY. *TR
2008 COBALT LIGHTING LEVER FOR CONTUNOUS HIGH BEAMS FLICKERED LIGHTS FROM ON TO COMPLETLY OFF WHILE DRIVING THE ISSUE CAME BACK AGAIN A YEAR LATER BUT STAYED PERMANENTLY. I HAVE LOW BEAMS AND HIGH BEAMS BUT ONLY IF I HOLD LEVER BACK CAN I USE HIGH BEAMS. *TR

THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REMEDIED IN 2011 UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE INCIDENT AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I PREVIOUSLY CONTACTED GM BEFCAUSE OF A POWER STEERING ISSUE WEEKS BEFORE MY ACCIDENT.I WAS CROSSING THE RAILROAD TRACK WHEN I LOST ALL POWER TO MY CAR AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO JERK AS IF THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED. CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS COMMON IN THE COBALTS UNTIL THE CAR KNOWS YOUR DRIVING HABITS. SAME OCCURRENCE IN THE 2007 COBALT. THE DEALER HAD TO ADJUST THE TRANSMISSION. DEALER WILL NOT TAKE ACTION AS TO DATE FOR THIS ISSUE STATING THAT IT HASN'T HAD A CHANCE TO ADJUST TO THE DRIVING HABITS. WE HAD THE CAR FOR MORE THAN A FEW MONTHS AND PUT OVER 3000 MILES ON IT. CAR DOESN'T FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS. DEALER IS MADE AWARE OF THIS. INFORMED BY DEALER, NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ORIGINALLY, THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION OF MY 2008 COBALT AND THE CAR WOULDN'T SHUT OFF. MECHANIC DISCONNECTED BATTERY AND ATTEMPTED TO BYPASS TUMBLER MECHANISM. WITH A PAPER CLIP. HE TRIGGERED THE KEY RELEASE. CAR STARTED AFTER THAT. HOWEVER, ON ABOUT THE FIFTH OR SIXTH TRY AFTER THAT, THE CAR FAILED TO START AND THE KEY WOULDN'T TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH. CAR IS STUCK AT WORK 50 MILES FROM HOME AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY A SMALL FORTUNE TO TOW IT TO THE SHOP NEAR ME...ONE THAT WON'T ROB ME BLIND, THAT IS. FURTHERMORE, I HAVE GREAT NEED OF MY WHEELS AS I TRANSPORT MUSICAL EQUIPMENT TO AND FROM MY CONCERTS WITH THIS CAR, SO I'M LOSING REVENUE HERE. AS THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRENT PROBLEM AND GM ALREADY KNOWS IT IS AN ISSUE, I REQUEST A RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS PROBLEM, INCLUDING THE TOWING FEE. THANKS IN ADVANCE, GM. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING REACTIVATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW, IT HAS MADE OCCASIONAL GRINDING NOISES FROM THE REAR BRAKES. THE REAR BRAKES HAVE WORN OUT SO QUICK THAT THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEY ARE BEING REPLACED (THREE SETS OF REAR BRAKES IN UNDER 50,000 MILES). THE REPLACEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY ARE A "WEAR" ITEM. THIS VEHICLE IS THE FOUR-DOOR "SPORT" MODEL WITH THE REAR DISC BRAKES AND MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE BRAKES WEAR VERY QUICK AND THE PARKING BRAKE WILL NO LONGER HOLD THE VEHICLE ON AN INCLINE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ADJUSTED BY THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, BUT I FIGURED OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE SPRINGS ON THE REAR CALIPERS THAT RELEASE THE PADS WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS DISENGAGED ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO RELEASE THE PADS. EVEN WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS FULLY DISENGAGED, THE REAR PADS ARE CLAMPED DOWN ON THE ROTORS CAUSING HEAT, PREMATURE WEAR, AND MORE ROLLING RESISTANCE, LEADING TO DECREASED PARKING BRAKE FUNCTION. *TR

THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE CAR BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THE INITIAL TIME. I CALLED REGARDING THE RECALL FOR POWER STEERING AND FOUND OUT THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE POWER STEERING MOTOR REPLACED AT 58,400 MILES. (I'VE LOOKED THIS UP ON THE INTERNET, AND SUPPOSEDLY ALL AUDIO INDICATORS COME THROUGH THE SPEAKER.)
