TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL SMELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL MODULE WAS LEAKING AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,900.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
GASOLINE IS VISIBLY LEAKING FROM THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. THERE IS ALSO A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM BENEATH THE CAR. THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY GM AND RECALLED FOR 2006-07 MODEL YEARS, BUT 2008 AND NEWER MODEL YEARS THAT ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM ARE NOT COVERED BY THAT RECALL. *TR

2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER STATES DIFFICULTY STARTING VEHICLE AND SMELLS GAS *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE FUEL LINE WAS CRACKED AND WAS LEAKING. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2006/2007 MODELS FOR THE FUEL PUMP, THE SAME FUEL PUMP THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
MY COMPLAINT IS IN REFERENCE TO A FUEL LEAK FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. AFTER GOING ON LINE I NOTICED THAT THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH 2006 THROUGH THE 2008 MODEL YEAR COBALT. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE EXHAUST PIPE PASSES BELOW THE FUEL TANK. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED WITH THE 2007 RECALL AS I HAVE HEARD THERE IS ONE. WHAT IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A RECALL FOR SAFETY ON THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR AND THE BURDEN SHOULD BE ON THE MANUFACTURE TO CORRECT. AGAIN THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND IS PLAYING WITH PEOPLES LIVES AND ALSO ALLOWING FUMES TO ESCAPE INTO THE AIR. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. UPDATED 08/01/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT IT IS UNKNOWN WHETHER OR NOT THE CRASH WAS CAUSED BY THE SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION. THE SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION HAPPENED 4-6 TIMES. THE ACCELERATION WOULD OCCUR ON LEVEL GROUND, HIGHWAY, AND UPHILLS AT A SPEED OF 25 MPH AND 55MPH. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE IMPACT WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE ACCELERATOR WOULD STICK. UPDATED 08/02/2012 *JS
THE VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AFTER PURCHASE IN 2008. THE POWER WINDOWS BECAME NON OPERABLE, RADIO SPEAKERS STOPPED WORKING, DOOR LOCKS DON'T UNLOCK VIA POWER SWITCH, AC/ HEAT ISSUES (DOESN'T FUNCTION PROPERLY), AND WIRE HARNESSES NEAR SEAT BELT COLUMN (WHERE BELT MEETS FLOOR) BECAME SEVERED FROM SEAT BELT COLUMN MOVEMENT.... THIS CAUSED AIR BAGS TO STOP FUNCTIONING.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE DIED FOR NO REASON. WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR WHEN UNAWARE THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND ARE UNABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT UNLESS THE BATTERY IS RECHARGED. HOWEVER, SINCE THERE IS NO POWER TO THE VEHICLE YOU CANNOT OPEN THE TRUNK TO GET TO THE BATTERY? BEFORE RECALL IN 2010 MY KEY WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THE BATTERY WAS FINE AND I WOULD HAVE TO FORCEFULLY TRY TO GET THE KEY INTO THE START POSITION OR OFF POSITION AND PULL THE KEY OUT. PROBLEMS STILL REMAIN WITH THIS IGNITION PROBLEM? DEALERSHIP STATES THIS IS HOW GM DESIGNED THE CAR? *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS WARNING COME ON TOGETHER AND IT MAKES THE CAR SHAKE DURING BRAKING. *TR
EXCESSIVE WEAR ON REAR BRAKES, CAUSING UNTIMELY REPLACEMENT. REAR BRAKES WEAR MORE QUICKLY THAN FRONTS CAUSING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
LAST YEAR AROUND MAY I WAS DRIVING MY COBALT TO WORK AND SMELLED GAS. I REPLACED THE FUEL CAP TO START WITH THE LEAST EXPENSIVE FIRST. I STILL SMELLED THE FUEL. I WENT TO A MECHANIC AND HE FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING. HE FOUND TWO ISSUES. ONE THE PUMP WAS SEATED IMPROPERLY AND THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FUEL RETURN. I STILL HAVE THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY IN CASE MY CAR BECAME PART OF THE RECALL ISSUED FOR SOME OF THE COBALT CARS. LOOKING AT THE FUEL PUMP, I HAVE TO SAY MY CAR HAD THE SAME LEAK AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL BUT MY VIN WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. ALSO SINCE MY CAR HAD THE POWER STEERING REPLACED MY ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS WON'T OPERATE CORRECTLY, CYCLING LOCK AND UNLOCK WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, LOCKING WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, CYCLING WHEN I TURN, CYCLING WHEN I OPEN THE TRUNK. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE TUMBLER AND THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHILE TRYING TO AVOID ANOTHER COLLISION. THE AIR BAGS PARTIALLY DEPLOYED AND DID NOT FUNCTION AS DESIGNED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED LIVER INJURIES. THE PASSENGER WAS TAKEN TO HIS RESIDENCE WHERE HE LATER SUCCUMBED TO FATAL INJURIES. THE PASSENGER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS DUE TO BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA TO THE CHEST AND INTERNAL BLEEDING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I NOTICED MY CAR HAD A HARD TIME STARTING ON THURSDAY, MAY 3, 2012. THEN ON FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2012, I BEGAN TO SMELL GAS HEAVILY IN MY CAR. BY SATURDAY, MY CAR HAD A HARD TIME STARTING. AFTER I TURNED ON THE CAR, I RECEIVED AGAIN A HEAVY ODOR OF GAS INSIDE MY CAR. I DID NOT DRIVE MY CAR THE ENTIRE WEEK OF MAY 7 - 11, 2012. I HAVE A MECHANIC CHECK MY CAR AND FOUND GAS LEAKING ONTO MY GAS TANK. I THEN SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT SIMILAR DESCRIPTIONS OF FAULTINESS HAD BEEN REPORTED FOR 2007 MODELS AND I CAME UPON THIS WEBSITE AGAIN WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT 2008 MODELS. *TR
CONTINUED NOISE FROM FRONT END WHEN DRIVING- RIGHT AND LEFT STRUTS,BEARING PLATES MOUNTS,SHIELDS AND BUMPER BOOTS WERE REPLACED - THE STRUTS WERE LEAKING FLUID FRONT END ALIGNMENT WAS ALSO DONE I AM NOW HAVING THE SAME IDENTICAL PROBLEM ( OIL IS LEAKING AND COVERING THE STRUT ) AT THIS TIME DATE 10/2013. THE REAR BRAKE PADS ARE WORN SEVERELY UNEVENLY. THE INSIDE PADS ARE DOWN TO METAL WHILE THE OUTSIDE PADS ARE STILL AT LEAST 50%. THE ROTORS ARE DEEPLY SCORED BECAUSE OF THE WEAR. *TR
GAS LEAKING, BOUGHT NEW FUEL PUMP AND GAS STILL LEAKS A PUDDLE. I HAVE A 6 MONTH OLD SON. SCARED MY CAR IS GOING TO EXPLODE. I HAVE SEEN OTHER RECALLS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, JUST NOT ON MINE. AT APPROXIMATELY 7:55 A.M. ON MONDAY, APRIL 16TH, I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON STATE ROUTE 605 TO WORK (CENTER VILLAGE/NEW ALBANY OHIO AREA). GOING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, AND AT 50 MPH, I FELT THE STEERING WHEEL BECOME A LITTLE SPONGY AS I WAS DRIVING WHEN I WAS MAKING A SMALL CORRECTION IN THE STEERING WHEEL TO ENSURE I WAS PROPERLY IN MY LANE. WHEN I MOVED THE STEERING WHEEL TO RIGHT A FRACTION, THE CAR DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT AS IT SHOULD. HOWEVER, UPON MAKING A CORRECTION TO THE LEFT THE CAR'S STEERING WHEEL BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. BECAUSE OF THIS THE CAR VEERED RIGHT STRIKING A MAILBOX AND CRASHING INTO SOME TREES. THE CAR IS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS LOOKING AT IT TODAY. I HAD THE ELECTRICAL STEERING BOX REPLACED LAST YEAR. THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WENT OFF AS IT SHOULD BUT THE CAR ENDED UP ON ITS SIDE. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) AND WAS REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
I WAS JUST INFORMED BY MY SON THE HIS 2008 COBALT SMELL LIKE GAS. HE STATED THAT IT HAS BEEN LIKE THAT FOR SOME TIME, BUT ONLY NOTICED THE SMELL WHILE AT A STOP OR VERY SLOW SPEED. NOW IT IS OVERBEARING AND ALL THE TIME. 66,000 CURRENT MILES. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY COBALT AND UPON PARKING MY CAR I CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAR AND REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO DO A QUICK SEARCH ON MY PHONE ON WHAT TO DO AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF RESPONSES ON ONLINE FORUMS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE KEY WILL NOT TURN BACKWARDS (TOWARDS OFF). IT WILL BUDGE FORWARD SLIGHTLY BUT WILL NOT TURN THE CAR OFF AND ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED. UPON CALLING A DEALERSHIP AND GM DIRECTLY I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS AN INCREDIBLY COMMON INSTANCE. I WAS ABLE TO POP THE TRUNK AND PULL THE FUSE AND POWER FROM THE BATTERY TO KILL THE ENGINE BUT NO MATTER WHAT I DO I CANNOT REMOVE THE KEY. I HAVE EVEN TRIED SUGGESTIONS FROM GM WHICH INVOLVE A MANUAL KEY RELEASE UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN BUT NOTHING HAPPENED (MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS ACTUALLY DOESN'T WORK THE WAY GM EXPLAINS). MY CAR IS GETTING FIXED FOR A NOMINAL FEE THAT I CANNOT AFFORD BECAUSE I HAVE RECENTLY LOST MY JOB. MY COMPLAINT HOWEVER RESIDES ON HOW COMMON THIS ISSUE IS AND HOW QUICK GM AND DEALERSHIPS ARE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE IT BECAUSE OF HOW OFTEN THIS COMES UP. *JS

WAS TRAVELING 55-65MPH WHEN THE GAUGES ON THE CAR STARTED TO BOUNCE AROUND ERRATICALLY, NOT READING TRUE SPEED,RPM, FUEL LEVEL, AND FLASHING POWER STEERING AND NUMEROUS OTHER WARNINGS ON INFO DISPLAY. AFTER STOPPING AND RESTARTING SITUATION WENT AWAY. A FEW DAYS LATER PROBLEM REOCCURRED AT LOWER SPEED THIS TIME ALL PROBLEMS REOCCURRED AND CAR DIDN'T' WANT TO SHIFT GEARS, OR WHEN DID WAS EXTREMELY VIOLENT. GM ACKNOWLEDGES THIS PROBLEM ON MULTIPLE VEHICLES (THERE TSB # IS PIC4677F) HAS BEEN UPDATED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH VARIOUS MAKES AND MODELS. ALONG WITH SOME OTHER SYMPTOMS I HAVE YET TO HAVE SUCH AS ENGINE SURGING OR STALLING WHILE DRIVING. (THIS IS A HUGE DANGER!, TOYOTA HAD TO RECALL HOW MANY BECAUSE OF THIS SAME ISSUE?) IT IS MY OPINION AS A CERTIFIED,ACTIVE, AND SWORN POLICE OFFICER THAT THIS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. I BELIEVE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL. AS THE GAUGES BEING EFFECTED COULD EASILY CAUSE A WRECK,BLOWN ENGINE, ETC.. WHILE PRACTICING PARALLEL PARKING POWER STEERING DISABLED ITSELF. COULD NOT GET POWER STEERING TO RE ENGAGE. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP ON ABOVE STATED DATE. THEY REPLACED THE RECALLED INTERNAL POWER ASSIST MOTOR. A FEW DAYS LATER THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN. UPON RETURNING TO THE DEALERSHIP WE WERE INFORMED THAT STEERING WAS BEING OVER USED. SINCE THAT TIME POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT SEVERAL TIMES. SOME OF WHICH THE STEERING HAS NOT RETURNED AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. SOME INSTANCES HAVE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY. *TR

RECENTLY DEVELOPED KNOCK IN FRONT WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. TOOK CAR TO DEALER TO HAVE RECALLED STEERING BOX FIXED. CHEVROLET SAYS LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS, FRONT STRUTS ARE LEAKING, AND SWAY BAR END LINKS NEED REPLACED SOON. ALMOST $1500 DOLLARS. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THOUGH ONLINE SEARCH SHOWS RAMPANT ISSUES. *JS
2008 COBALT NOW WITH 70K MILES HAS STRONG GASOLINE ODOR AND WHEN AT IDLE LEAKS EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FUEL. I HAVE A NEWBORN BABY AND A 1YR OLD TODDLER AND WITH A PROBLEM THAT SEVERE I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE THIS CAR AND FEEL SAFE. THE RIGHT REAR SEAT BELT WILL NOT REALEASE TO ALLOW ANYONE TO SIT WITHIN THE VEHICLE AND BUCKLE UP. I BROUGHT THIS ALONG TO THE ATTENTION OF MY SERVICE PROVIDER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THIS IS ACCESSORY EQUIPMENT AND THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS EQUIPMENT ALONG WITH A TROUBLE SHOOTING CHARGE AS TO WHY IT WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM HAS FAILED, THEREBY CAUSING LIGHT TO DISPLAY ON THE DASH. I HAVE TAKEN THIS BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A THIRD TIME AND NOW A PART HAS BEEN ORDERED TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE MONITOR AND I'M BEING BILLED FOR THIS AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH A LOANER, SINCE THE PART WAS GOING TO TAKE OVERNIGHT TO ARRIVE AND THE DEALER'S LOANER HAS THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE OBTAIND THE VIN FOR THIS VEHICLE OF NEEDED, BUT WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF EITHER OF THESE HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES AROUND THE ACTUAL REPLACEMENT COSTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUEL WAS LEAKING. THE SMELL HAD BECOME OVERPOWERING FROM INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE PERFORMED BUT WAS DENIED BECAUSE OF THE OFFENSIVELY OVERPOWERING ODOR. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE POSSIBLE EXHIBITED A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP. THE CONTACT WAS VERY CONCERNED THAT THE SMELL WOULD BECOME PERMANENT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS, THEY WOULD HAVE TO FIRST PERFORM FURTHER RESEARCH FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
BEGAN SMELLING A FAINT GAS ODOR IN JAN. 2012 WHILE SITTING AT STOPLIGHT COMING FROM MY 2008 CHEVY COBALT. ODOR HAS SINCE GROWN STRONGER AND MY MPG'S HAVE GONE FROM AROUND 30-32 MPG TO 26 MPG ON LAST FULL TANK OF GAS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2008 COBALTS. WHILE SITTING IN A PARKED POSITION, THE CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT AND MESSAGE LIT UP. TRIED TO TURN IT OFF BY HAVING THE PASSENGER UNLOCK AND RELOCK THE SEAT BELT. NOTHING CHANGED.
