BRAKES WORE OUT PREMATURELY AND GRIND. *TR
MY 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT SS REAR BRAKES HAD TO BE CHANGED BEFORE THE FRONT BRAKES (40000KM). THE ROTORS WERE HEAVILY SCORED TO A POINT WHERE THEY COULD NOT BE RESURFACED. THE PADS WERE WORN OUT UNEVENLY AND HAD A DIFFERENT LEVELS OF WEAR. THE FRONT BRAKES AT 60000 STILL HAVE LOTS OF BRAKE PAD LEFT. I REPLACED THE BRAKES MYSELF AND DID NOT KEEP THE OLD PARTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE ENTIRE FRONT END WOULD RATTLE AS IF WAS GOING TO FALL OFF. THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE BEFORE AND THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE BUSHINGS. THE FAILURE RECURRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS YET CONTACTED REGARDING THE RECURRING FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
WHILE TEACHING MY 16 YEAR OLD HOW TO ANGLE PARK JAN 30, THE STEERING LOCKED. WE WERE DOING A LOT OF HARD TURNS AND HAD TO STOP PRACTICING. BECAUSE WE WERE IN A LARGE PARKING LOT, WE SWITCHED DRIVERS AND I TESTED THE STEERING. IT SEEMED TO BE OK BUT DID TUG SEVERAL TIMES. WE WENT TO JIFFY LUBE ONE BLOCK AWAY AND THEY SAID TO TAKE IT TO OUR DEALER. MY HUSBAND THEN TEST DROVE IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND IT SEEMED FINE. SINCE THE PARKING LESSON I'VE NOTICED THAT THE STEERING "TUGS AND THEN SEEMS FINE" WHEN MAKING HARD TURNS, WHILE PARKING, AND WHILE LEAVING A PARKING SPACE. WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH OUR DEALER TOMORROW, DROPPING THE CAR OFF TONIGHT. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE SHARING THE VAN IN THE MEANTIME. *TR
I OWN A 2008 CHEVY COBALT SS. THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WEARING OUT VERY QUICKLY AND DAMAGING THE ROTORS. FIRST NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE ON THE REAR BRAKES AT 950 MILES AND NOW AT 16,500 MILES, I AM SITTING AT THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT. BEING TOLD THAT MY PADS AND ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE PREVIOUS DEALER IGNORED MY REQUESTS TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED BEFORE IT GOT THIS BAD. THIS DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND THEY SAID THAT THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE BRAKES ARE REPLACED. CHEVY COBALT POWER STEERING FAILURE. POWER STEERING INTERMITTENT . NOT WORKING AT THE MOMENT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND IMMEDIATELY THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER USED EXTREME FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING MAKING IT HARD TO STEER. THE STEERING HOWEVER, WOULD WORK AGAIN WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED AFTER STOPPING. AFTER A FEW DAYS THE POWER ASSIST FAILED COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND THE ELECTRIC MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER KEPT THE PART. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 COBALT,GOING WEST ON 480 9CLEVELAND),GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. I CHANGE LINES TO GET OFF AT RIDGE ROAD,WHEN WE HIT BLACK ICE,THE STEERING ON THE CAR WOULD NOT LET ME TURN LEFT/RIGHT IT SEEMED LOCK IN PLACE. OWN A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH AROUND A CURVE WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO CRASHING BECAUSE OF THE DIFFICULTY OF STEERING. PULLED OVER AT NEXT EXIT AND COULD NOT FIND A POWER STEERING RESERVOIR OR ANYTHING. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON IT WAS FINE. LOOKED THE PROBLEM UP ONLINE THIS MORNING AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVING SAME PROBLEM. THEY TOOK THEIR CAR TO THE DEALER TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED AND FOUND OUT THAT THE CAR HAS ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING AND THAT IT GOES BAD. MY DEALER SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING WHEN I BRING IT IN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IF THIS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE SHE MIGHT NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO TURN THE WHEEL AND PANIC NOT KNOWING WHAT IS GOING ON. *TR

JUST BOUGHT CAR USED WITH 26K MILES AND REAR BRAKES ARE METAL TO METAL. SO FAR DEALER CANT FIND PARTS IN THERE SYSTEM FOR MY CAR. *TR

THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE DIRECTION OF THE CURVE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD- ON TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. HOWEVER, BOTH VEHICLES WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WHILE THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A TOW TRUCK IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED AND CAUSED HER HUSBAND TO SUDDENLY STOP AS WELL. THE VEHICLE BEHIND THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND DID NOT STOP AND CRASHED INTO THEIR VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND CRASH INTO THE REAR OF THE TOW TRUCK. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED TOTALED. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS FATALLY INJURED, BUT WAS REVIVED AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION; HOWEVER, HE DID NOT SURVIVE DUE TO THE EXTENT OF HIS INJURIES. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO IN THE VEHICLE AND RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE FACE, BACK, ARMS, LEGS, AND CHEST AREA, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. *LN

NORMAL DRIVING HAS CAUSED MY REAR BRAKES TO BE TOTALLY SHOT AT 15000 MILES. HAVE NOT TRIED TO WARRANTY THE ITEM YET, BUT I HAVE HEARD THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE ITEM. *TR
THE REAR BRAKES ON MY 2008 CHEVY COBALT SS TURBOCHARGED MAKE EXCESSIVE NOISE IN REVERSE, THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, AND IS NO FAULT OF THE OWNER. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT FOR MY SON TO DRIVE. HE WAS PRACTICING PARKING MANEUVERS IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN HE COMPLAINED THE STEERING WAS GETTING HARDER TO TURN. I CHECK THE STEERING AND THE POWER STEERING HAD FAILED. I ASSUMED IT WAS BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD BECOME HOT BUT IT SHOULD NOT FAIL UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS. I SEEN IN THE NEWS OF THE COMPLAINTS OF POWER STEERING PROBLEMS AND THAT IS THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE. THE DEALER I SPOKE WITH SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS THE POWER STEERING FAILS AGAIN. I TOLD THEM AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR THE POWER STEERING TO FAIL WHEN MY KIDS ARE NEW DRIVERS? I BOUGHT A 2008 CHEVY COBALT LT IN APRIL OF 2009. AT THE TIME, IT HAD 28,000 MILES ON IT. AS THE CAR NEARED 40,000 MILES IT WOULD OCCASIONALLY LOSE ITS POWER STEERING CAPABILITY, BUT RESTARTING THE CAR WOULD BRING BACK THE POWER STEERING. AS TIME WENT ON, THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE AND MORE FREQUENT UNTIL ABOUT A MONTH AGO WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT. I CALLED MY DEALER (1/26/10) TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY CLAIMED TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT AND OFFERED NO ADVICE. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO MY PERSONAL MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT GM HAD PREVIOUSLY ISSUED 2 SERVICE BULLETINS RELATED TO THE PROBLEM. MY MECHANIC CALLED A DIFFERENT CHEVY DEALER AND FOUND OUT THAT THE REPAIR (PARTS ONLY) WOULD RUN ABOUT $1200. I DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISK OF HITTING ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE OF THE INABILITY TO MAKE PROPER TURNS, ESPECIALLY IN PARKING SITUATIONS. I AM ALSO QUITE SURE THAT IF I HAD TO QUICKLY SWERVE TO AVOID AN OBSTACLE, THAT WOULD BE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. AS WELL, I AM EXPERIENCING INCREASED SHOULDER PAIN FROM DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT ANY POWER STEERING. PART OF MY JOB INVOLVES TRANSPORTING YOUNG ADULTS, WHICH I AM NOT COMFORTABLE DOING BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY LIABILITY. AT THIS POINT, I AM LOSING INCOME, AND ENDANGERING MY HEALTH AS WELL AS THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS. *TR

IN MARCH OF 2008 I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2008 CHEVROLET COBAL IN NOVEMBER OF 2009 THE POWER STEERING STARTED RANDOMLY GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING, COMPLETELY OUT *TW
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVY COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED ALMOST CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH. HE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND AFTER RESTARTING IT HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE POWER STEERING FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER HAS NOT DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,500.
THE REAR BRAKES ON MY 2008 COBALT SS/TC WERE COMPLETELY SHOT AT AROUND 14000 MILES. THE GOUGES IN THE ROTORS WERE TOO DEEP TO GET TURNED AND I HAD TO DO A FULL BRAKE JOB ON THE REAR BRAKES BECAUSE GM SAID THAT THEY ONLY COVER THE BRAKES UNTIL 12,000 MILES. THE NEW BRAKES STILL MAKE STRANGE NOISES AND WHEN THE CAR IS IN REVERSE SOMETIMES A VERY LOUD SCREECH COMES FROM THEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH AND SUDDENLY THE IT WAS HARD TO STEER AND THE WORDS POWER STEERING POPPED UP ON MY DASH. THERE WAS LOTS OF TRAFFIC. IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO TURN LEFT AND RIGHT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF ONCE I GOT HOME FOR ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES AND I STARTED IT UP AND TOOK IT AROUND THE BLOCK, NOT EVEN ONE MINUTE OF STARTING IT POWER STEERING FLASHED ON MY DASH. I HAVE HAD 2 OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR THIS WILL BE MY 3RD TIME TAKING IT INTO THE DEALER FOR SOMETHING ELECTRICAL. MY WARRANTY ENDED AT 30,000 IT CURRENTLY HAD 30,060. *TR
1. BEFORE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2008, I WAS MADE AWARE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR BRAKE WEARING ABNORMALLY. I HAD MADE AT LEAST TWO INQUIRIES TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) BEING RELEASED ON THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME THERE HAD NOT BEEN, BUT I HAD NEITHER EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM UP UNTIL THEN. 2. THE FAILURE OCCURS WITH THE PARKING BRAKE MECHANISM. THE PARKING BRAKE FUNCTIONS BY ENGAGING THE INSIDE BRAKE PAD ON THE REAR BRAKES. THERE IS A RETURN SPRING THAT IS SUPPOSE TO DISENGAGE THE BRAKE PAD WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS RELEASED. THIS SPRING IS FAILING TO DISENGAGE THE INSIDE PAD CAUSING THE PAD TO WEAR ABNORMALLY. THE RESULT IS THAT THE INSIDE PAD WILL WEAR THIN VERY QUICKLY AND EVENTUALLY BEGIN TO DAMAGE THE BRAKE ROTOR. 3. I HAVE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND I WAS DEFERRED TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THERE TO BE A DEFECT AND WILL NOT PERFORM THE REPLACEMENT WORK UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, I WILL BE REPLACING ALL OF THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND INSTALLING A HIGHER TENSION SPRING ON THE PARKING BRAKE RETURN. *TR

INCIDENT 1: 0% PAD MATERIAL ON INNER LININGS ON BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT REAR WHEELS WITH >80% MATERIAL OUTBOARD PADS. FAILURE OCCURRED WITH ABOUT 17K MILES. ON INSPECTION IT WAS OBSERVED THAT GM HAD FAILED TO APPLY LUTRICANT TO THE GUIDE PINS OF CALIPERS. REPLACEMENT OF ROTORS AND PADS WAS REQUIRED. INCIDENT 2: SAME FAILURE AS INCIDENT 1. 0% PAD MATERIAL ON INNER LININGS OF BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT REAR WHEELS WITH >80% MATERIAL ON OUTBOARD PADS. FAILURE OCCURRED WITHIN 20K MILES. REPLACEMENT OF ROTORS AND PADS WAS AGAIN REQUIRED. *TR

THIS GOUGING OF ROTORS ACTUALLY BECAME NOTICEABLE AT ONLY 3500 MILES. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE NEW. I RECOMMEND GM PUTS RECALL OUT ON REAR BRAKES FOR THIS CAR TO REPLACE ROTORS AND PADS FREE OF CHARGE. *TR

FRONT ROTORS HAVE SMALL GROOVES AND HAVE JUST UNDER 40% OF PAD LIFE LEFT. GM DEALER WOULD NOT FIX UNDER WARRANTY BUT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY REAR BRAKES ARE WEARING BEFORE FRONTS. I HAVE OWNED CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW. NO RACING JUST DAILY COMMUTING TO AND FROM WORK (40MILES ONE-WAY). INSTALLED OEM PADS AT 15000. HAVE SEEN PROBLEM PROGRESSIVELY GET WORSE SINCE ABOUT 7000 MILES. CURRENT MILEAGE APPROX. 32000,PADS WORN OUT IN SAME MANNER AS STATED ABOVE AND ROTORS ARE SEVERELY GROOVED, WORN PAST SAFE REFINISH LIMITS. FRONT PADS ARE IN OK SHAPE AND SMALL GROOVES IN ROTORS. 95% OF DRIVING IS DONE ON HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MAKE A LOUD POPPING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES AFTER THE INITIAL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER EACH TIME, WHERE THEY REPLACED THE SWAY BAR, CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS ON BOTH SIDES, AND THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2008 CHEVY COBALT ON RTE. 219 BETWEEN RIDGEWAYAND BRADFORD, PA ON SEPT. 11, 2009, WHEN SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. IT WAS AROUND NOON AND LIGHTLY SPRINKLING. SHE WAS TRAVELING NORTH AT ABOUT 50 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WAS A TRUCK IN FRONT OF HER WHICH SHE CONSIDERED PASSING. SHE TURNED TO THE LEFT TO SEE IF SHE COULD PASS. SHE DECIDED NOT TO PASS AND TURNED RIGHT. THAT IS WHEN SHE LOST STEERING CONTROL. THE STEERING TOOK HER TOO FAR RIGHT AND INTO THE GUARDRAIL, THEN SHE BOUNCE OFF THE RAIL AND OVER TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE SHE HIT THE OPPOSITE GUARDRAIL. THE ROAD WAS FLAT AND STRAIGHT, NOT THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN. THE CAR THEN TOOK HER BACK TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE SHE STOPPED. THE CAR SUFFERED ABOUT $6000 DAMAGE. HAD THERE BEEN A CAR ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRUCK HEAD ON. WE ASSUMED BECAUSE THE ROAD WAS SOMEWHAT WET, SHE MUST HAVE HYDROPLANED. WE WERE JUST RELIEVED SHE WASN'T KILLED OR INJURED. WHEN I READ THE ARTICLE IN THE PAPER ABOUT THE STEERING, I ASKED MY DAUGHTER TO DESCRIBE WHERE HAPPENED IN THE ACCIDENT. SHE SPOKE OF LOSING CONTROL OF THE STEERING, SO NOW I FEAR THE STEERING MAY BE FAULTY AND HER LIFE MY BE IN DANGER. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVY COBALT THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW AND WITH 51,000 MILES ON IT I HAVE REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ON THE RIGHT SIDE, SWAY BAR BUSHING, SWAY BAR, AND TIRES. REAR DRIVER SIDE ROTOR GRINDING BAD ABOUT 1 INCH FROM THE TOP ON THE INSIDE. PASSENGER SIDE ROTOR GROVING ALL OF THE INSIDE. CAR HAS 14,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 18,000 MILES, MY 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT SS HAD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKES. THIS NOISE WAS WORSE WHEN I USED THE BRAKES. I DROVE THE VEHICLE ANOTHER 30 MILES TO MY DESTINATION. UPON ARRIVAL, I NOTICED THAT I HAD LOST ABOUT 50% OF MY BRAKING POWER AND THAT THE GRINDING NOISE WAS MUCH WORSE THAN WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT, 30 MILES EARLIER. OF COURSE, I REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS, KNOWING THAT THE NOISE THEY WERE MAKING WAS CAUSED BY THE PADS WEARING OUT AND THE METAL GRINDING AGAINST THE ROTOR. TO MY SURPRISE, ONLY THE INSIDE BRAKE PADS WERE WORN TO THE METAL, AND THE OUTER BRAKE PADS HAD JUST OVER 1/4 OF AN INCH OF PAD LEFT. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY LOCAL GM DEALER AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) POSTED IN THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEMS THAT SAYS THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE DRIVER AND THAT GM DEALERS ARE NOT TO COVER THE REAR BRAKE PROBLEM. I KNOW THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR IN ANOTHER 20,000 MILES BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CALIPERS OR ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE INSIDE PADS SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT FASTER THAN THE FRONT. THEY SHOULD ALSO WEAR EVENLY. ANOTHER CONCERN I HAVE IS THE LOSS OF BRAKING POWER IN ONLY 30 MILES FROM THE EARLIEST SIGN OF A BRAKE PROBLEM. I DON'T LIKE THE FACT THAT THE REAR BRAKES, SPECIFICALLY THE INSIDE BRAKE PADS, ARE DOING APPROXIMATELY 50% OF THE BRAKING. MOST OF THE BRAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY THE FRONT BRAKES, WHICH HAVE WELL OF 1/4 OF AN INCH OF BRAKE PAD LEFT ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE PADS. *TR
REAR BRAKE PADS ON 2008 COBALT SS HAVE GROOVED IN THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR ROTOR IS MUCH MORE GROOVED IN THAN PASSENGER'S, LEADING TO MY BELIEF THAT BRAKE PADS ARE WEARING UNEVENLY IN ADDITION TO SCORING ROTORS. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH MANY OTHER OWNERS, SEE COBALTSS.NET/FORUMS. WHEN VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN TO GM DEALER, SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT WEARING WAS "NATURAL", AND THAT I SHOULD BRING THE VEHICLE BACK IN AT 15000 MILES. *TR
MY POWER STEERING FAILED - SEVERAL TIMES, AFTER MY 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT HIT AROUND 45,00MILES. I WAS TOLD THE CAR HAD JUST RUN OUT OF WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED. I REFUSED, BECAUSE ALL OVER THE INTERNET WERE COMPLAINTS FROM CHEVROLET COBALT USERS SAYING THAT EVEN AFTER IT WAS FIXED, THE ISSUE RETURNED. THEY FINALLY AGREED TO FIX IT FOR FREE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH HE NOTICED THE POWER STEERING FAILURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. HE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND AFTER FIVE MINUTES RESTARTED IT AND HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE OFFERED SINCE THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,500.
REAR BRAKES ARE GOUGING AND WEARING AT AN ALARMING RATE. AT 15K MILES I AM ABOUT DUE TO REPLACE THE PADS AND ROTORS IN FEAR THAT THEY WILL FAIL. I HAD THEM INSPECTED AT 1900 MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED, DEALER STATED IT WAS NORMAL WEAR. DEALER DENIED ME WARRANTY COVERAGE DUE TO ONLY A 12K WARRANTY ON THE BRAKES. *TR
