TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY SWAYED BACK AND FORTH AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY VEERED INTO ANOTHER LANE AND CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO PRIOR INDICATION OF A STEERING FAILURE. THE POLICE RESPONDED BUT DID NOT FILE A REPORT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT COULD OFFER NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 33,000.
REAR BRAKES: INNER PADS METAL ON METAL, OUTER PADS STILL PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT AT 17,500 MILES. REPORTED BRAKE SQUEAL/GRINDING BY 4,000 MILES, HAD PARKING BRAKE RE-ADJUSTED AT THAT TIME. *TR
2008 COBALT SS REAR BRAKES ARE WEARING PREMATURELY AND ROTORS BADLY GROOVED. ROTORS WERE TURNED AT APPROX 7000 MILES. NOW AT 23000 MILES AND INNER BRAKE PADS ARE DOWN TO METAL AND ROTORS ARE ONCE AGAIN BADLY GROOVED. *TR
AT 6000 MILES, MY REAR BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY WORN DOWN, MY ROTORS ARE SCORED, AND ONE GM DEALER SAID THEY WOULD WARRANTY MY ROTORS IF I PURCHASED NEW PADS FOR OVER $100, AND ANOTHER DEALER SAID THAT THE WEAR WAS "NORMAL" FOR MY CAR. THIS OBVIOUSLY IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AND I AM NOT VERY HAPPY. THE DEALER SAID I HAVE OVER 75% LIFE LEFT ON THE PADS THROUGH HIS GAUGE SYSTEM, AND YET IT MAKES HORRIBLE SCREECHING NOISES. THE ROTORS ARE SCORED VERY BADLY. *TR
ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE STEERING WHEEL HAS SHIFTED. WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE WHEEL IS TURNED A QUARTER TURN TO THE LEFT. WHENEVER TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, I HEAR A SQUEAKING NOISE AND SOMETIMES A "CLUNK" NOISE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED AND MADE IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN AND THE MOTOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER THE WARRANTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED SHE CONTINUED TO HAVE DIFFICULTY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31400.
REAR ROTORS BEGINNING TO SHOW GROOVES IN THEM WITH ONLY 14K MILES ON CAR. *TR
THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS FAIL TO RELEASE PROPERLY, CAUSING THE INSIDE BRAKE PAD TO WEAR MORE THAN TWICE AS FAST AS THE OUTSIDE PAD. THEREFORE FORCING THE REAR PADS TO BE REPLACED TWICE AS OFTEN AS THE FRONT BRAKE PADS. *TR
REAR ROTORS ARE SEVERELY GROOVED ON BOTH THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 20K MILES. *TR
REAR BRAKES WEAR VERY RAPIDLY. THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY GONE WITHIN 14K MILES, REAR ROTORS SCORED SO HEAVILY THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. 10K MILES LATER THE REPLACEMENT BRAKES ARE ALMOST GONE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE BEEN FINE THIS ENTIRE TIME - STILL PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT. *TR
2008 COBALT SS. SCORING ON BOTH SIDES OF FRONT AND REAR ROTORS. NOISE FROM REAR BRAKES. FIRST NOTICED AT 10,000 MILES (CAR NOW HAS 12000). DEALER WOULD NOT FIX UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IN THEIR VIEW, SCORED ROTORS ARE"COSMETIC". *TR
IN JULY 2008 WE PURCHASED A NEW CHEVY COBALT SS FROM C.WEAVER CHEVROLET IN YORKVILLE, NY. WE WERE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH A NOISE IN THE REAR AND BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AT 12,400 MILES. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS IN NEED OF REAR BRAKES AND ALSO THAT THE FRONT TIRES WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THE FRONT TIRES WERE REMOVED IN THE WINTER FOR SNOW TIRES AND HAVE ONLY BEEN ON THE CAR FOR ABOUT 7,00 MILES. IT WAS OUR OPINION THAT THERE WERE DEFECTS WITH THE TIRES AND BRAKES BUT THE DEALERSHIP, (CARBONE GMC,PONTIAC, BUICK), IN YORKVILLE, NY REFUSED TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY CITING DRIVERS USE AS THE REASON FOR THE WEAR ON THE BRAKES AND TIRES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SHE WAS UNABLE TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 25724.
REAR BRAKES ON 2008 CHEVY COBALT SS, WEAR RAPIDLY CAUSING DESTRUCTION OF THE ROTORS AND EXCESSIVE STRESS ON THE FRONT BRAKES. REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY THE FIRST TIME AT ~12,000 MILES. REAR PADS COMPLETELY SHOT AGAIN AT ~22,000 MILES. THIS TIME, THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T COVER IT. THE EXTENDED ABUSE TO THE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE REAR DURING LOW SPEEDS. *TR
SINCE I PURCHASED MY 08 COBALT SS, I NOTICED THE BRAKES MADE NOISES AND THE REAR BRAKES WORE FUNNY. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DEEMED THIS "NORMAL FOR THESE BRAKE PADS." AT 19,000 MILES I ALREADY NEEDED NEW REAR BRAKES AS THE DEALER SAID THEY WERE "GRINDING AGAINST THE METAL" AND MY ROTORS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS AS PUTTING A NEW PAD ON DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND I WILL ONLY NEED NEW PADS AND ROTORS IN ANOTHER 15,000 MILES OR SO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE IGNITION CYLINDER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER THE SERVICE WARRANTY. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN MAKING A RIGHT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 55 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING WHENEVER HE MADE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. WHEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD THE CONTACT HA\D TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON SO THAT IT WOULD RESET AND FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FRACTURED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SHOULDER AND NECK INJURIES FROM THE SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED ABRASIONS TO THE NECK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A SECOND CRASH WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A DEER AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED LOWER BACK INJURIES BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,731. *BF *AS
TL*THE CONTACT LEASED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE VEHICLE HAS CONTINENTAL TOURINGCONTACT AS TIRES, SIZE 195/60/R15 (NA). WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 55-60 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SHE IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE LOST AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THEY REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE EXHIBITED SEVERE TREAD SEPARATION. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,322 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,300.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE ROADWAY AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE WITH HER HEAD STICKING OUT OF THE WINDOW TO SEE THE ROADWAY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED A LITTLE OVER ONE YEAR. THE DEALER REPLACED A NUT ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,882 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,574.
CAR ALARM WENT OFF WHILE PARKED AND LOCKED. NO APPARENT REASON WHY IT WAS GOING OFF. IT DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES THAT DAY. AT TIMES, I WILL LOCK THE VEHICLE ONLY TO COME OUT AND SEE THAT IT IS UNLOCKED. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE REMOTE KEY FOB. I REPLACED THE BATTERY AND NOT MUCH CHANGED. ALSO, ON THIS VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK,THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF THE LIGHTS WENT OUT IMMEDIATELY INSTEAD OF STAYING ON FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TOO. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILURE IN THE '08 CHEVY COBALT SEEMS TO OCCUR AT RANDOM. WITH ONLY 6K MILES ON THE VEHICLE IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED. NOW AT 10K MILES THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING. THE POWER STEERING WILL STOP WORKING AND THE LIGHT IN THE DASH WILL FLASH AT RANDOM. THE LONGER IT GOES WITHOUT REPAIR THE WORSE IT GETS. EVENTUALLY IT WILL GO OUT EVERY 5 MINUTES OR LESS. ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. *TR
SEVERE GROOVE WEAR ON REAR ROTORS OF MY 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT SS. *TR
MY REAR ROTORS HAVE SCARRED SO BAD IT IS AFFECTING BRAKING, AND THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ONCE. THEY ARE NOISY, DANGEROUS, AND VISUALLY UNPLEASING. *TR
BOUGHT MY COBALT SS NEW FROM DEALER, WITH LESS THEN 5,000 MILES REAR BRAKES WERE SQUEALING AND VERY OBNOXIOUS. UPON INSPECTING AND BRINGING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKES HAD GOUGES IN THEM AND NEEDED TO BE REFINISHED AND CLEANED AS WELL AS NEW PADS INSTALLED. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AS THEY SAID IT WAS WEAR AND TEAR AND THE NOISE WAS NORMAL. *TR
HELLO I HAVE A 2008 CHEVY COBALT SS AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED A BIG DEFECT WITH MY CAR, THE CAR ITSELF TURNED OFF AS IN ALL ELECTRICAL PARTS WENT OFF SUDDENLY WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION THIS WAS REPORTED TO MY DEALERSHIP RIGHT AWAY SINCE THIS IS A LEASED BRAND NEW CAR, THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT RESPOND TO THE COMPLAINT IN ANYWAY, THE CAR HAS BEEN FIXED BUT STILL CONTINUES TO HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND THE DEALERSHIP NOR THE MANUFACTURER WANT TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, I HIT A TREE AND THE FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR WAS DAMAGED BUT MY AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. INSURANCE DEEMED THE CAR A TOTAL LOSS. WAS TAKEN TO ER VIA AMBULANCE AND SEEN FOR MINOR SEATBELT BRUISING,RIB BRUISING AND BACK PAIN. I HAD TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR FOR MY BACK PAIN FOR THE FOLLOWING 4 MONTHS. *TR
2008 CHEVY COBALT, I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN JAN. 2008! I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGERS SIDE FRONT END AND FRONT BRAKES. IN THE BEGINNING, THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, NOW IT IS NOT, BUT THE PROBLEMS KEEP HAPPENING AND I HAVE HAD IT BACK IN FOR SERVICE MANY, MANY TIMES! ALWAYS FOR THE SAME ISSUES, FRONT END AND BRAKES! YOU WILL SEE WHEN YOU PULL THE SERVICE REPORTS! I CONTACTED GM AND I HAD A WONDERFUL LADY WORKING WITH ME AND SHE SAID SHE WAS PUTTING SOMEONE ON MY ACCT, A GUY CALLED ME SAID THEY ACCEPTED MY ACCT, NOW TODAY HE CALLED AND SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DO THE BUY BACK PROGRAM WITH THE CAR AND JUST TO KEEP SERVICING THE CAR! IM TELLING YOU THEY SERVICE IT AND THEN IN A MATTER OF A SHORT PERIOD, ITS BACK IN THE SERVICE DEPT. THE CAR SHOULD IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM, HAVE ALL THESE ISSUES AND FOR GODS SAKE FRONT END OR BRAKES, ITS STILL FAIRLY NEW! I PRAY NOTHING SERIOUSLY HAPPENS TO ME OR ANYONE RIDING IN THIS CAR DUE TO SOMETHING BEING BROKE OR BREAKING! THE SERVICE DEPT WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR SAYS THEY FIX IT, BUT SHORTLY THERE AFTER ITS BACK! NOW, THEY TREAT ME LIKE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT AND I AM FURIOUS! PLEASE CHECK OUT THE SERVICE REPORTS AND YOU TELL ME! I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECTIVE CAR! THERE ALSO HAS BEEN OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE FRONT ENDS AND BRAKES WITH THESE CARS EVEN THE OWNER OF THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT AT ADMITTED THAT! THERE ARE SEVERAL BULLETINS OUT ON IT ALSO, I KNOW FOR A FACT! I AM ONE VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER!!! A 2008 CHEVY COBALT WAS DRIVEN ABOUT 10 MILES, PARKED, SHUT OFF, THE KEY REMOVED & LOCKED WITH REMOTE. A FEW HOURS LATER THE CAR WAS UNLOCKED WITH REMOTE, THE KEY WAS INSERTED IN THE IGNITION BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN NOR COULD THE GEAR SHIFTER BE MOVED OUT OF PARK. THE CAR WAS STARTED USING THE REMOTE BUT SHUT OFF AFTER THE 10 MINUTE TIME-OUT. TRIED TO CALL ON-STAR BUT NOTICED THE GREEN LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT WORK. HAD TO USE HOME PHONE TO CONTACT THEM. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER THE NEXT DAY. DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED IT. DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR IT W/O COST EVEN THOUGH THERE APPEARS TO BE A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM. CAR HAD ABOUT 37,000 MILES HOWEVER PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION NOT TURNING ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT WERE NOTICED ON MANY OCCASIONS PRIOR TO FAILURE. *TR
MY BACK WINDOW IN MY CAR BLEW OUT FOR NO REASON AT ALL. ON BOTH SIDES WHERE THE HEAT SENSORS ARE THE GLASS IS COMPLETELY GONE. THE DAY THIS HAPPENED I HAD MY DEFROSTER ON AND THIS IS WHEN IT HAPPENED. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD IT WASN'T THERE PROBLEM SINCE I HAD OVER 10,000 MILES ON MY CAR. I EXPLAINED TO THEM HOW IT HAPPENED AND STILL NO POSITIVE RESPONSE. I CALLED THE POLICE AND HE FOUND NO SIGNS OF FOUL PLAY AND SAID TO ME IT LOOKED LIKE A DEFECTIVE WINDOW MY CONCERN IS THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN WITH KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT SOMEONE CAN GET HURT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH IN A PARKING LOT, THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE DRIVER HAD TO EXERT GREATER EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURS WHEN PARALLEL PARKING IN REVERSE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON FOR HER VEHICLE. UNDER NORMAL DAILY DRIVING CONDITIONS (MAJORITY IS COMMUTING), MY REAR ROTORS AND BRAKR PADS WERE REPLACED AT 21,259KM, QUOTE FROM SERVICE ORDER FROM MY DEALERSHIP, "REAR BRAKES AT SQUEALERS, CONFIRMED SQUEAL NOISE FROM REAR. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING BEHAVED VERY ERRATICALLY. I OWN A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT LT SEDAN, BEEN HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS RELATING TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN THE CAR. THERE IS A STRONG PULSATION FROM THE BRAKES. HAD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. LASTED ABOUT TWO MONTHS. TOOK VEHICLE IN BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THEY SAID I HAD A FAULTY STEERING COLUMN. THEY TRIED TO SAY IT WAS POSSIBLY CAUSED BY MY WORN TIRES BUT THEY STILL HAVE AT LEAST TWO MONTHS LEFT BEFORE I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THEM. BECAUSE PART WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THEY REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN (PT#19209155) AND I PAID THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE. I HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH STEERING ON THE FREEWAY BUT FIGURED IT WAS THE ROAD CONDITIONS. NON LEAD TO A ACCIDENT BUT AT LEAST ONE TIME I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR.
