REAR BRAKE NOISE AND GRINDING AND ROTORS SCORED AND GROOVED AFTER 6K MILES. THE REAR BRAKE NOISE WAS PRESENT EVEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND WORSE WHEN BRAKING. THE CAR WENT TO TWO DEALERSHIPS AND WAS TOLD THIS ADVANCED AND PREMATURE WEAR WAS NORMAL. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW 08 COBALT IN SEPT 08. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE TWO STEERING COLUMNS PUT IN, A POWER STEERING PUMP, STABILIZER BARS, FRONT END BUSHINGS AND BEARINGS, AND NOW A RACK PINION (ALONG WITH MULTIPLE OTHER UNRELATED REPAIRS). I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER (RON MARHOFFER STOW OH) AFTER EACH REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING OR SUSPENSION OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD PULL OUT OF MY LANE TO THE LEFT AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I ACTUALLY LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND WENT INTO A DITCH ON ONE OCCASION. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE DEALER KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEREFOR JUST KEEPS THROWING PARTS IN IT. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE DEALER ALSO REPLACED MULTIPLE FORNT END PARTS INCLUDING STABILZER BARS, BEARING AND BUSHINGS ON OTH FRON WHEELS TRYNG TO CORRECT THE STEERING PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON THE CAR TWICE ON THE FRONT END DUE TO ABNORMAL WEAR AND TEAR FROM THE CAR CONSTANTLY PULLING WHILE DRIVING. *TR
2008 CHEVROLET COBALT DIGITAL TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR WILL NOT INDICATE TIRE PRESSURE. ATTEMPTS TO RESET VIA INSTRUCTION MANUAL HAVE FAILED. *TR
2008 CHEVROLET COBALT SS. REAR BRAKE ROTORS BADLY GROOVED. INNER BRAKE PAD WORN COMPLETELY OUT. OUTER PAD WORN TO 50%. FRONT ROTORS ARE SMOOTH AND 80% OF PAD LIFE LEFT.GM DEALER WOULD NOT FIX UNDER WARRANTY BUT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY REAR BRAKES ARE WEARING BEFORE FRONTS. I HAVE OWNED CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW. NO RACING JUST DAILY COMMUTING. HAD ROTORS TURNED AND INSTALLED OEM PADS AT 16500. HAVE SEEN PROBLEM PROGRESSIVELY GET WORSE SINCE ABOUT 4000 MILES. CURRENT MILEAGE 35000,PADS WORN OUT IN SAME MANNER AS STATED ABOVE AND ROTORS ARE SEVERELY GROOVED AGAIN,WORN PAST SAFE REFINISH LIMITS. FRONT PADS ARE STILL IN VERY GOOD SHAPE AND NO GROOVES IN ROTORS. CAR IS DRIVEN MOSTLY ON INTERSTATE. *TR
WENT TO START 2008 CHEVY COBALT WITH JUST OVER 8000MILES. WHEN INSERTED KEY INTO IGNITION KEY GOT STUCK AND WOULD NOT RELEASE/TURN TO START VEHICLE. CAR WOULD NOT EVEN SHIFT OUT OF PARK. *TR
WHENEVER MY REAR DISC BRAKES GET WET AND THEN DRY OFF - THEY MAKE A VERY LOAD SQUEALING NOISE. I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I BACK OUT OF MY GARAGE WITHOUT BRAKING. I AM AFRAID THE NOISE WILL WAKE MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE HER BEDROOM IS ABOVE THE GARAGE. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE CHEVY DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT AND THEY TELL ME THE BRAKES ARE FINE. ALSO, THEY KNOW THIS MODEL CAR DOES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. IF GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS WHY DO THEY NOT REMEDY IT. ONCE I DRIVE IT A FEW MILES IT SEEMS TO GO AWAY. I AM REPORTING THIS COMPLAINT ON BEHALF OF MY SISTER[XXX] . SHE OWNED AND OPERATED A 2008 COBALT THAT WAS INVOLVED IN FAULT WRECK, WHERE SHE WAS KILLED. SHE LOST CONTROL OF HER CAR ON 6-35 NORTH IN KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI. THERE WAS A REINACTMENT OF THE WRECK BUT IT WAS INCLUSIVE. CONSUMER WRITES TO INQUIRE ABOUT RECALLS AND COMPLAINT REGARDING THE DEATH OF A DRIVER *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WENT AIRBORNE AND HER SISTER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LANDED AND ROLLED TO A STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF A BRIDGE, IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS SCATTERED IN PIECES. THE CONSUMER STATED HER SISTER LOST CONTROL AFTER ENTERING THE HIGHWAY. THE CONSUMER WANTED TO KNOW IF THE ACCIDENT WAS THE RESULT OF THE POWER STEERING FAILING. *JB
IGNITION 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. DECEMBER 21,2008 CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER. DRIVER WAS KILLED IN A ONE CAR CRASH, WHERE HER AND HER CAR WERE THRU TO THE STREET BELOW ON 6-35 AND HIGH DR. THE CAR WENT AIRBORNE SHE WAS THROWN OUT THE CAR BUT WAS SAVED ENOUGH TO BE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE LATER DIED. THE CAR WAS NOT SO LUCKY IT LANDED AND ROLLED TO A STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BRIDGE, IN WHICH THE CAR WAS SCATTER IN MANY PIECES. THERE WAS PHYSICAL NOT MUCH LEFT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING THE SPEED LIMIT IT WOULD HAVE BY PASSED THE OPENING AND LANDED ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT BECAUSE IT WAS SLOW GOING IT RESULTED IN HER DEATH. THERE WAS A REENACTMENT DONE BUT THE FINDING WERE IN CONCLUSIVE ON HOW SHE DIED. SHE LOST CONTROL AFTER GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY. I CHECKED FOR RECALL ON HER 2008 COBALT AND THERE WERE NONE AT THE TIME OF HER DEATH. HER OLDER SISTER WANT TO KNOW IF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. I STARTED LOOKING FOR RECALL RIGHT AFTER HER DEATH AND DID NOT FIND ANY AND DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT NOW THIS NATIONAL RECALLS FOR THE TOYOTA THEN THE VOLUNTARY RECALL DONE WITH GM RECENTLY OPENED OUR EYES THAT THIS YOUNG WOMAN DEATH COULD BE THE RESULT OF FAULTY CAR. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IS NEED TO BE DONE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. WE HAVE SUFFERED A GREAT LOSS. SHE WAS A GOOD DRIVE AND THE CONCLUSION THAT HAS BEEN MADE HAS BEEN NONE. WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. THIS WAS REPORT SEVERAL TIME BACK IN 3/ 2010 AND 6/10 AS COMPLAINT WITH THE STEERING .... I HAVE CONTACT GM AS OF RECENTLY BECAUSE RECALLS AND HER CALL WAS ONE OF THE PARTS THAT WAS IN THAT RECENT IGNITION ISSUES. THERE WERE NOT SKID MARK WITH THE REENACTMENT DONE THERE WAS NO REASON WHY HER CALL DID NOT SHOW BRAKE OR SKIDS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE PART OF THE RECALL COVER UP MY GM!!!!! *TR
DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, CAR PERFORMS POORLY. HARD TO CONTROL AND POOR TRACTION. CAR HAS 18,000 MILES ON IT. SPOKE TO AN OWNER WITH SIMILAR CAR (PONTIAC G5) WHO HAS SIMILAR COMPLAINT. AFTER 12,000 MILES HAD TO GET NEW BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS DO TO LOUD SQUEALING. HAVE SINCE BEEN REPLACED TWO MORE TIMES FOR THE SAME THING. *TR
THE REAR BRAKES ARE WEARING PREMATURELY. THE PADS HAVE DAMAGED(CREATE DEEP RUTS IN) THE ROTORS ON THE SURFACE. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL AND DID NOTHING. THIS WEAR STARTED WITHIN 5K MILES. THE CAR HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND I HARDLY USE THE BRAKES. *TR
DRIVING THE CAR ON THE ROAD, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON, CAN NO LONGER STEER THE CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 19-25 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE PRECEDING VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED A THREE VEHICLE CRASH. UPON IMPACT, A FIRE ERUPTED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A REPORT WAS FILED. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS UNKNOWN. WITHIN MINUTES, THE FIRE QUICKLY ENGULFED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 500. UPDATED 06/17/09. *LJ
I GOT THE CAR NEW, WITH 13 MILES ON IT, IN 2008. THE " SERVICE AIRBAG " LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I DID GET IT CHECKED WHEN I WENT IN FOR SERVICE, AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF FOR 4 DAYS, AND THEN IT HAS BEEN ON EVER SINCE, WHEN I WENT AGAIN FOR SERVICE, I MENTIONED IT, THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT. THEY DID NOTHING.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING COMPONENT WAS BURNED. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $12,000. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 63,000.
ELECTRICAL DASH PANEL GAUGES BOUNCE. POWER STEERING COMES AND GOES. ENGINE CUTS OUT & IDOLS ODDLY, EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING AND ELECTRONIC DASH CLUSTER.
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2008 COBALT SPORT AND FROM THE FIRST FEW WEEKS THAT I GOT IT , TO THIS DAY, I FOUND THAT SOMETIMES WHEN GOING INTO THIRD OR FOURTH GEAR W/CLUTCH FULLY ENGAGED THERE IS A VIBRATION AND NOTICEABLE GRINDING WHILE ENGAGING INTO GEAR, IT IS ALSO VERY DIFFICULT TO GET INTO 2ND GEAR IN VERY COLD WEATHER. *TR

WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING FAILED. THE FAILURES WERE INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE DETAILS COULD NOT BE PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 10V073000 (STEERING) AND 14E021000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), BUT THE REMEDIES FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE POWER STEERING SEIZED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.
DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND MY POWER STEERING FAILED. THERE IS NO POWER STEERING FLUID TO CHECK IN THESE CARS AND IT COST $600 JUST FOR THE PART NOT INCLUDING LABOR. *TR

ON THE COBALT COUPE THERE IS A SEAT BELT GUIDE ATTACHED TO THE FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSEMBLIES. FOR A TALLER DRIVER THAT SITS WITH THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN A REARWARD POSITION, WHEN LEANING FORWARD THE SEAT BELT CAN BECOME PINCHED BETWEEN THE GUIDE'S OPENING DUE TO THE SLOT BEING ALONG THE HORIZONTAL (SIDE) EDGE OF THE GUIDE. WHEN LEANING FORWARD THIS CAUSES THE BELT TO GET CAUGHT, THEN IF THE DRIVER LEANS BACK INTO THE SEAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE INCHES OF SLACK IN THE UPPER SEAT BELT AND IT WILL NOT PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE DRIVER. THE DRIVER NEEDS TO CONSTANTLY MANUALLY FREE AND RE-SEAT THE BELT INSIDE THE GUIDE LOOP OR LEAVE IT OUTSIDE THE GUIDE.
I OWN A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT LT SEDAN, BEEN HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS RELATING TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN THE CAR. THERE IS A STRONG PULSATION FROM THE BRAKES, SQUEALING, AND THE BRAKES LOCK UP AND PULL TO THE LEFT EASILY. WHILE BRAKING ON THE HIGHWAY THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE CAR WENT INTO A SKID, GM CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AFTER 6 REPAIR ATTEMPTS AND THEREFORE CAN'T FIX IT. I WAS RECENTLY TOLD BY DEALER, I WOULD JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND IM NOT "JUST LIVING WITH IT" AFTER DOING MY RESEARCH ONLINE I AM FINDING PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS REGARDING THERE COBALTS IN FACT 2 PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THERE'S.... AT SOUTHPOINT MALL IN DURHAM N.C. VEHICLE 1 WAS TRAVELING NORTH IN PARKING LOT OF SOUTH POINT MALL WHEN VEHICLE 2 PULLED INTO ITS LANE OF TRAVEL FROM A PARKING AISLE VEHICLE2 STRUCK VEHICLE1 IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER AREA WITH ITS FRONT LEFT PORTION. *TR
THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS ON BOTH SIDES ARE SEVERELY GROOVED ON THE INNER AND OUTER SURFACES. THE INNER BRAKE PADS ON BOTH SIDES ARE WORN NOTICEABLY MORE THAN THE OUTER PADS. THE BRAKES MAKE A GRINDING NOISE. THE PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T HOLD THE CAR IN PLACE. THIS IS AT 4K MILES. *TR
MY SON WAS IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT. IT WAS A SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT IN WHICH HE LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR, WENT OFF THE ROAD, HIT A TREE STUMP AND THEN THE CAR WAS SPUN SIDES, ROLLED ONTO IT'S SIDE AND INTO A TREE. NONE OF HIS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. HE WAS KILLED IN THE CAR ACCIDENT WHILE 3 OTHER KIDS WALKED AWAY. HE WAS THE DRIVER AND THE CAR WAS HIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT'S SISTER RENTED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING AT APPROX 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE WHERE IT WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS KILLED AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE NORTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT SAW REPORTS OF FAILED POWER STEERING IN NEWS REPORTS AND THOUGHT THAT THE EXPLANATION COULD HAVE BEEN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT NEVER SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 9,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO TURN THE KEY AND START THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. SPORADICALLY, THE CONTACT COULD NOT TURN THE KEY TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND THE HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS A NEW SET OF KEYS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE KEYS WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED THE SAME INFORMATION TO THE CONTACT AS THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS AND GAUGES WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE IN THE DAYLIGHT. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED PROPERLY AT NIGHT. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO DEFECT WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OPERATION. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,000.

I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A SECURE STOP. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT DID NOT LIGHT UP, NOR DID AN ALARM GO OFF TELLING ME THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG.
