COULD NOT SHUT CAR OFF WHEN PARKED. THE KEY WOULD NOT MOVE LOCK TO SHUT CAR OFF. COULD MOVE KEY FORWARD (TO START), BUT COULD NOT MOVE TO OFF. IMMEDIATELY DROVE CAR TO DEALER. DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAD TO DISCONNECT BATTERY (WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING) TO SHUT OF THE CAR THEN PROCEEDED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION CYLINDER. THE REMARKS ON DEALER REPAIR INVOICE WERE " REPLACED IGNITION CYLINDER DUE TO THE KEY GETTING STUCK IN THE HOUSING AND THE CYLINDER BLOWING UP". NOTE THAT I CONSIDER NOT BEING ABLE TO SHUT OFF A RUNNING CAR EXTREMELY UNSAFE! IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS LIKE THROTTLE STICKING ETC. (DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANY HISTORY OF THROTTLE STICKING ON THIS MODEL YET). ALSO, GENERALLY IT IS BAD PRACTISE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE ON A RUNNING ENGINE. THIS MAY AFFECT THE COMPUTER (FUTURE SAFETY ISSUE? OR FUTURE EXPENSIVE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REPAIRS). DOES GM CONDONE THIS PRACTISE AT THEIR DEALERS? I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING FROM NEW ORLEANS, LA TO MERIDIAN, MS. WHEN I WAS ABOUT 35 MILES OUTSIDE OF MERIDIAN, MS, MY CAR SHUT OFF AND A CLOUD OF WHITE SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE. NONE OF THE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON TO LET ME KNOW THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I HAD THE 2009 CHEVY COBALT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVY DEALER IN MERIDIAN WHO TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND A ROD HAD SLIPPED OUT OF THE ENGINE. THIS TOOK JUST OVER TWO WEEKS TO ORDER THE NEW ENGINE AND REPAIR IT. THE VERY NEXT DAY AFTER THE ENGINE WAS REPAIRED, I HAD THE CAR STARTED BUT WHEN I WENT TO TURN IT OFF, THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. I TRIED TO REMOVE THE KEY BUT IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER HAD TO DISCONNECT THE FUSES AND BATTERY AND ALLOW THE CAR TO COOL BEFORE HE COULD TOW IT. *TR
MY 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ALONE AT NIGHT ON A HWY, WHEN SHE SAID HER STEERING LOCKED AND SHE COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL, THE CAR VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND SHE CRASHED INTO SOME TREES DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. THIS CAR WAS IN FOR ITS ELECTRIC STEERING RECALL FEW WEEKS BEFORE. *TR
I HAVE A BIG ISSUE ABOUT THE ODOMETER READING ON MY COBALT. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I BOUGHT MY CAR 7/29/09 AND IT NOW HAS 59,740 MILES ON IT. THIS IS ONLY AN IN TOWN CAR. I BOUGHT TIRES IN 3/11 AND THE TIRE PLACE LAST WEEK SAID I PUT OVER 12,000 MILES SINCE THEN. THIS IS NO WAY POSSIBLE. THEY SAY THEY HAVE TESTED IT AND THERE IS NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE NOT CHANGE MY DRIVING HABITS SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR. THE CAR I HAD BEFORE THIS HAD A REGULAR ODOMETER AND NOT THE DIGITAL. THE CAR WAS 1997 AND IT HAD 155,000 AND I DROVE OUT OF TOWN A LOT. BY THE END OF THE YEAR I WON'T HAVE A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY ANYMORE. THERE IS JUST NO WAY IN HELL THIS IS CORRECT AND I HAVE HEARD OTHERS SAY THE SAME. SOMEONE NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THIS ISSUE.. THIS LOOKS LIKE A WAY FOR THE MANUFACTURES TO GET OUT OF WARRANTIES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE BRAKING AT A INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE APPROPRIATE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILE WAS 43,127 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,963.
I BROUGHT MY 2009 COBALT SS INTO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, 20K MILEAGE CHECK. IT HAS A 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY REAR ROTORS WERE SCORED BADLY POSSIBLY FROM THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BEING ON WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THE SURFACE WAS TOO FAR GONE TO TURN THEM. I'M THE ONLY PERSON THAT DRIVES THE CAR AND I KNOW I DON'T DRIVE WITH THE E-BRAKE ON, NOT EVEN ONCE. HOWEVER, I DO PULL THE E-BRAKE WHEN I PARK MY CAR WITH THE TRANS IN GEAR. LET ME SAY ALSO I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR HARD LIKE RACING OR DRIFTING. I DID PULL THE TIRE AND ROTOR FROM THE LEFT REAR TO FIND THAT THE INNER ROTOR SURFACE WAS INDEED SCORED BADLY WITHIN 3/4-INCH OF THE OUTER ROTOR DIAMETER. THE OUTER ROTOR SURFACE WAS CLEAN AND SMOOTH. THE OUTER BRAKE PAD LOOKED LIKE IT HAD 2X THE MATERIAL LEFT VERSUS THE INNER PAD. I DID NOT PULL THE RIGHT SIDE ROTOR YET. (MY NEW BRAKE ROTOR ORDER GOT FOULED UP. STILL WAITING.) LIKE MANY OF THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMPLAINED, MY CAR HAS SLIGHTLY OVER 21K MILES ON IT SO WHY SHOULD IT NEED REAR BRAKES SO QUICKLY? MOST OF THE WEAR SHOULD BE ON THE FRONT BRAKES DUE TO WEIGHT AND MOMENTUM DURING BRAKING. SOMETHING DOESN'T ADD UP. WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE NEW ROTORS? *TR
MY CAR HAS GROOVES BECAUSE OF SUB PAR BRAKE PADS IN REAR AND MY ROTORS WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CHEAP PADS CHEWING DEEP GROOVES ON A 09 COBALT SS WITH 20K. FRONTS HAVE CERAMIC PADS SO NO WEAR AT ALL. MECHANIC SAID THEY USED EXPENSIVE CERAMIC UP FRONT AND CHEAP SEMI METALLIC IN BACK AND NOW THE ONLY FIX IS NEW CERAMIC PADS BUT THE ROTORS ARE TO FAR GONE TO BE RESURFACED. CHEAP GM FACTORY FLAW WHICH SHOULD REQUIRE A RECALL TO REPLACE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE WAS VEHICLE STARTED, THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED HER THAT THE VIN WAS PREVIOUSLY INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSISTS SYSTEM) AND REPAIRED. AFTER SHUTTING OFF MY 2009 CHEVY COBALT I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH TO RESTART THE CAR. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND HAVE A NEW IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER REPLACED. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXTREME FORCE BEFORE THE VEHICLE RESPONDED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE BRAKES WERE UNRESPONSIVE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT THAT LOCATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,995.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS TURBO. THE CONTACT STATED HIS REAR BRAKE PADS WERE PREMATURELY WEARING OUT RAPIDLY. THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PAD NEVER MADE ANY NOISE ALERTING THE CONTACT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED THE MECHANIC SHOWED HIM HOW THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE WORN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I PARKED THE CAR FOR THE NIGHT WITH NO INDICATIONS OF ANY PROBLEMS AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE NEXT DAY, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. TRIED MOVED THE STEERING COLUMN AND IT WOULD NOT TURN TO START. TALKED WITH A LOCKSMITH AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WASN'T THE IGNITION BUT THE POWER TRAIN COLUMN SHIFT SINCE NEITHER OF THE KEYS WORKED. I SPOKE WITH THE CHEVROLET CONSUMER HOT LINE (1-800-630-2438) AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON MY VIN. I ASSURED THEM THAT I HAVE A VEHICLE WITH 85,546 MILES THAT I CAN'T STARTED WITH THE FIRST 11 NUMBERS OF THE VIN RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS. I BOUGHT IT IN MARCH 09. THE VERY FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS, I HAD A CRACKED TURBO COOLER AND HAD TO HAVE SOMETHING ELSE MAJOR REPLACED. THEN AFTER 24K MILES, I HAD TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. NOW AT 31K MILES, MY SRV BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT IS COMING ON. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE BRAKES ON MY CAR??? *TR
STEERING ASSEMBLY HAS PLAY IN IT . SOMETHING LOOSE IN STEERING ASSEMBLY DID THIS FOR A LONG TIME.

BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING A FEW MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE CAR BRAND NEW. NOW, ABOUT 1.5 YEARS LATER, THEY ARE GRINDING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT AND THEIR PERFORMANCE HAS EXTREMELY DECREASED. I FEAR I WILL HAVE TO CHANGE ENTIRE ROTORS AND PADS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OUT OF MY OWN POCKET WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH ON GOOD AFTERMARKET PARTS SINCE THE FACTORY CAN'T PRODUCE GOOD QUALITY OEM PARTS AND GENERAL MOTORS DOESN'T GIVE A FLYING ****. I INFORMED MY LOCAL DEALER OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY SHRUGGED ME OFF, BUT ONLY AFTER WANTING TO CHARGE ME $60 TO JUST LOOK AT THEM. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM TO INSPECT BRAKES THAT ARE FAULTY IN UNDER 2 YEARS, AND 20,000 MILES; AND I ALSO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PAID FOR. APPARENTLY, IT'S JUST MAINLY THE REAR BRAKES THAT ARE THE ISSUE WITH THESE CARS, BUT EVERY OWNER I KNOW, WHO HASN'T ALREADY REPLACED THE BRAKES WITH AFTERMARKET PERFORMANCE PARTS, HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, AND IN SOME CASES, MUCH WORSE. IF THE BRAKES FAIL WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH OR TWO AND AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS(QUITE POSSIBLE SINCE RUST IS APPEARING ON ONE OF MY REAR RIMS DUE TO THE ROTORS BEING SCOURED SO EXCESSIVELY, I FEAR ONE OF THEM MAY LET GO AND SNAP COMPLETELY OFF)BEFORE EITHER A RECALL, OR I PUT AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS ON, GM WILL BE FACING A LAWSUIT BY YOURS TRULY; ESPECIALLY IF SERIOUS INJURY OCCURS.
THE BATTERY CONTINUES TO DIE AND IT CAUSES THE DEFAULT FACTORY ALARM TO LOCK THE CAR. THE KEYS ARE ALWAYS GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION. RIGHT NOW IM LOCKED OUT THE VEHICLE. THE EXTRA KEY CAN'T UNLOCK THE DOORS (CANT OVERRIDE THE ALARM LOCK). *TR
THE FRONT INTERCOOLER ON THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED BELOW THE GROUND EFFECTS OF THE FRONT BUMPER. THE INTERCOOLER HAS CRACKED 3 TO 4 TIMES AND IS NOT REPAIRABLE. THIS IS A FLAW ON ALL 2008-2009 CHEVY COBALT SS MODELS. THE RESULT WAS A BROKE DOWN VEHICLE. THE AIR SYSTEM ON THE CAR FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP NEGLECTED TO COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *TT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT SS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TRYING TO DECELERATE HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE. HE THEN INSPECTED HIS VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR ROTORS WERE MAKING THE NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3500.
FULL REAR BRAKE REPLACEMENT AT 17K. WARRANTY ONLY COVERED CALIPER REPLACEMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT BEGAN TO SMELL FUEL FUMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 43,000.
CAR WAS ACTING NORMAL, JUST TOOK A 200 MILE ROUND TRIP, THE NEXT MORNING THE ROADS HAD SOME SNOW AND A BIT OF ICE. I BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND DROVE ON THE SIDE STREETS (2 BLOCKS) TO THE HIGHWAY, AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I BEGAN TO FEEL A DRAG, I SHUT OFF MY RADIO AND LISTENED SOON MY TIRE GAGE CAME ON SO I LOOKED IN MY MIRROR AND SEEN SPARKS FLYING, I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AT AN AVAILABLE SAFE LOCATION ONLY TO FIND MY REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE WAS SHREDDED. I CHANGED THE TIRE AND BEGAN TO DRIVE AGAIN, ONCE I HIT DRY PAVEMENT I HEARD A SCREECHING NOISE. CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE GM DEALER CALLED ME TODAY AND SAID MY PARKING BRAKE WAS LOCKED UP. MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC AND I HAVE NEVER ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE (HAVE OWNED THE CAR OVER A YEAR). THE DEALER IS NOW TELLING ME THE PARKING BRAKE LINE WAS OFF AND SHREDDED . THEY ALSO STATED THE TIRE WAS NOT GOING TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE BRAKES MAY NOT BE EITHER SINCE THE LINE THAT APPARENTLY LOCKED ONE SIDE OF PARKING BRAKES UP COULD HAVE JUST FALLEN OFF AND LOCKED ONE SET OF PARKING BRAKES UP WHICH HAVE NEVER BEEN USED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN SHE ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE. LATER, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANS COOLER LINE THAT CONNECTED TO THE RADIATOR WAS NOT PROPERLY CONNECTED CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO LEAK FROM A PREVIOUS REPAIR DONE AT AN UNAUTHORIZED REPAIR FACILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,000. UPDATED 02/10/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER AGREED TO FIX THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 03/14/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT STATED A STRONG FUME SMELL WAS COMING OUT OF THE HEATING SYSYEM. THE CONTACT STATED THIS OCCURRED AFTER REPAIRS WHERE MADE TO THE POWER STEERING DUE TO A RECALL 10V073000: (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,600.
POWER STEERING BECOMES INOPERABLE AFTER SEVERAL TURNS OF THE STEERING WHEEL ON THE NEW ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. GENERAL MOTORS WAS AWARE OF THE CONDITION AS DISCLOSED IN THE DIAGNOSTIC BULLETIN PROVIDED TO ME AFTER THE THIRD RETURN TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. (SEE ATTACHED BULLETIN). I HAVE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ARE SUPPORTING THE STATEMENT PROVIDED IN THE BULLETIN THAT THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION AND NO RESOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM. I INFORMED THE DEALER SALESMAN, MANAGEMENT AND TITLE AGENT THE VEHICLE WAS NEEDED FOR DRIVER EDUCATION PURPOSES. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND PUTS STUDENTS IN DANGER WHEN MAKING HARD TURNS, EVASIVE MANEUVERS TO AVOID ACCIDENTS AND PARALLEL PARKING. IN ADDITION, THEY ARE FAILING THE MVA ROAD TEST DUE TO AN INABILITY TO CONTROL THE STEERING. THE SELLING DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS NOTED IN THE BULLETIN AND SHOULD HAVE INFORMED ME THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING BECOMES INOPERABLE WHEN THE SYSTEM WARMS-UP. AND TO NOT HAVE A RESOLUTION IS UNCONSCIONABLE.
IGNITION STUCK IN THE ON POSITION. WE HAD TO DISABLE THE DISTRIBUTOR TO STOP THE CAR. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2009 CHEVY COBALT SS/TC IN EARLY JUNE OF 2010. IT WAS A GM CERTIFIED USED CAR. WHEN I INSPECTED THE CAR BEFORE PURCHASING I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE HEAVILY WORN AND I LET THE SALESMEN KNOW ABOUT IT. HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ALMOST 70% LEFT ON THE PADS AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE . SO I DID THE DUMBEST THING I COULD DO AND TOOK HIS WORD FOR IT. AFTER ABOUT 5 MONTHS AND 4000 MILES LATER MY REAR BRAKES START MAKING A SCRAPING NOISE WHILE IN REVERSE AND WHILE LIGHT BRAKING AROUND CORNERS MOSTLY OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE.. I TOOK IT IN FOR MAINTENANCE EXPECTING SOME KIND OF MANUFACTURER DEFECT BUT INSTEAD I'M ACCUSED OF BAD DRIVING AND LETTING MY E-BRAKE DRAG. THE ISSUE WAS THAT THE REAR CALIPERS WERE STICKING AND NOT RETRACTING PROPERLY AND THE PISTONS INSIDE WERE BENT CAUSING UNEVEN PAD WEAR. BOTH SIDES MOISTURE BOOTS ON THE PISTONS LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE PINCHED AND BROKEN DURING THE FACTORY INSTALLATION. SO NOW HERE I AM WITH A BILL FOR ALMOST $1000 DOLLARS FOR REAR PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS AND ON A CAR THAT IS JUST OVER 2 YEARS OLD WITH ALMOST 2 YEARS ON A FACTORY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. I'M SORRY BUT THE CALIPERS TO ME ARE A MECHANICAL DEFECTED PART AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES BEFORE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM BEFORE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS DONE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THEY DO NOT BELIEVED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSE BY THE RECALL REPAIRS. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK STOPPED AT STORE, TRIED TO TURN MY VEHICLE OFF, THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND WOULDN'T COME OUT. DROVE THE CAR HOME, HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR RUNNING UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK CAME. THE TOW TRUCK MAN INFORMED ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH 2010 COBALTS AND THAT HE HAS HAD TO TOW MANY OF THEM AWAY. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP, BEEN THERE FOR ALMOST TWO WEEKS. WAS QUOTED A AN OUTRAGEOUS PRICE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 7,600.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE CRASH TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,073.

I BOUGHT A USED 2009 COBALT SS. THE CAR HAD 3200 MILES ON IT. AFTER BRING THE CAR HOME I FOUND SOME PITTING IN THE REAR ROTORS. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR TO 3800 MILES IT HAD GOTTEN BEYOND THE POINT WHERE THE ROTORS COULD BE TURNED. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL EVERYTHING IS FINE. NOT BEING BORN YESTERDAY I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE CASE. AFTER FIGHTING WITH THE DEALER FOR OVER AN HOUR I LEFT MAD AND WITH NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE ROTORS WITH DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS, AND CERAMIC PADS BUT NOW IT SEEM AS IF THE REAR CALIPERS ARE NOT RELEASING ALL THE WAY WHICH IS CAUSING THE CAR TO MAKE RATHER LOUD NOISES WHILE DRIVE. ONCE AGAIN NO HELP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS THEY CLAIM EVERYTHING IS NORMAL AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED AS I KNOW OF AT LEAST A DOZEN PEOPLE IN MY AREA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEAR THAT IF THIS IS NOT CORRECTED QUICKLY SOME ONE MAY GET HURT, OR WORSE YET KILLED TO PARTS FAILURE. *TR
THE SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON MY 2009 COBALT LT, AND THEN WOULD GO OFF AFTER STOPPING THE ENGINE AND STARTING AGAIN. THEN THE OTHER DAY DID IT AGAIN AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEN A FEW DAYS LATER BOTH LIGHTS WERE OFF. I THINK THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE CARS, AND THEY NEED FIXED! *TR
I LAST CHECKED MY BRAKES WHEN I TOOK OFF MY SNOW TIRES IN MARCH WITH 18,000 MILES ON MY CAR. EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE, FRONT AND REAR PADS LOOKED ALMOST NEW WITH PLENTY OF MEAT ON THEM. IN JULY, I NOTICED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE STARTING TO GROOVE, SO I MENTIONED THIS TO THE DEALER WHEN I WENT IN FOR A RECALL AND THEY RESURFACED THEM FOR ME (22,885 MILES). I ASKED ABOUT THE PADS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD LOOKED AT THEM AND THEY WERE FINE AND EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL. IN OCTOBER, I NOTICED THE GROOVING COMING BACK. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY CHARGED ME TO REPLACE THE REAR DISKS AND PADS AT 29,170 MILES (THEY DID THROW IN THE ROTORS FOR FREE DUE TO THE ABNORMAL WEAR). AFTER THE SERVICE, THEY GAVE ME THE OLD REAR PADS AS PER MY REQUEST. UPON RECEIVING THEM, I COULDN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT THE INNER REAR PAD, WHICH HAD BEEN WEARING IDENTICALLY TO THE OUTER REAR PADS WHEN I CHECKED AT 18,000 MILES, WERE WORN ALMOST TO THE BACKING PLATE! THE OUTER PADS STILL HAD 1/4" MATERIAL LEFT, SO IT SEEMED CLEAR THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT. THE DEALER COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THIS WEAR AND STATED THAT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL BESIDES THE BRAKE WEAR. IT SEEMS INCREDIBLE THAT A FRONT-HEAVY, FRONT-DRIVE CAR WOULD WEAR THROUGH ITS INNER REAR BRAKE PADS WHILE ITS FRONT PADS (WHICH DO MOST OF THE BRAKING) AND OUTER REAR PADS STILL HAVE PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT WITHOUT THERE BEING SOME KIND OF PROBLEM. I STILL HAVE THE PADS AND ALSO HAVE PICTURES. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THESE PADS WEAR DOWN SO QUICKLY, I COULD BE PUT IN A SITUATION WHERE I UNEXPECTEDLY HAVE NO E-BRAKE AND COMPROMISED BRAKING ABILITY DESPITE FREQUENT INSPECTIONS. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT GM IS MORE INTERESTED IN SELLING ME PARTS THAN IN DIAGNOSING AND CORRECTING THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. REAR BRAKES WEAR DOWN TO QUICKLY.. I HAVE HAD ONLY 20,000 KM ON IT AND ONE DAY I WAS GOING TO BRING MY KID INTO DAY CARE WITH IT.. PUT ON THE ON HAND BRAKE.. AND THEN MY CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACK WITH MY KID IN IT... ALMOST BRAND NEW CAR.. WHO WOULD OF THOUGHT MY BRAKES WOULD HAVE BEEN ALREADY WORN OUT.. MY KID ALMOST GOTTEN TO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS... NOW AN OTHER THING.. WE HAVE TO PAY NEW PADS EVERY 20,000 KM? THAT IS JUST INSANE.. AGAIN.. I SEE REPETITIVE POST ON HERE WITH COMMENTS THEY HAVE THE INSIDE PAD WORN OUT TO THE METAL AND THE OUTSIDE ONE TO 70%.. I HAVE NEVER CHANGED THE FRONT ONES ONCE YET.. AND THEY ARE STILL AT 65%..
