AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT, WITH THE BRAKE APPLIED THE CAR STARTED LUNGING FORWARD. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT HAPPENS OFTEN. IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE SITTING THERE PUMPING THE BRAKES WHEN YOU ARE NOT AND HAVE PEDAL PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN. *TR
2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECOMMENDING A RECALL CONCERNING SEAT BELT STOPS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE SEAT BELT STOPS FAILED TWICE. WHEN THEY BROKE, THE SEAT BUCKLE DROPPED ON THE STRAP BELOW THE SEAT BETWEEN THE ROCKER PANEL, WHICH MADE IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RETRIEVE THE BUCKLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PART WAS AN INEXPENSIVE TWO-PART BUTTON THAT WENT THROUGH THE STRAP WHICH STOPPED THE BUCKET FROM SLIDING DOWN ON THE BELT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT STOP. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR BRAKES DID NOT ADJUST. THE DEALER INDICATED THE REAR BRAKES NEED TO BE ADJUSTED. THE DEALER INDICATED, HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM ADJUSTED. HOWEVER, IT APPEARED THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE SUPPOSE TO AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST, UPON BACKING UP. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING, HE HEARD A LOUD SOUND. SOON AFTER, ABOUT 1/2 GALLON OF WATER SPILLED ONTO THE PASSENGER FLOOR AND THEN CONTINUED TO DRIP DOWN THE BLOWER MOTOR/ THE DEALER STATED THE AC DRAIN EVAPORATOR BOX FILLED UP FROM THE OUTSIDE DRAIN. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT NOTHING TO CLEAR OFF THE COWL AREA AND THEY DID NOT ATTEMPT TO VACUUM UP THE WATER. UPDATED 08/20/12

I BROUGHT MY CAR (2010 CHEVROLET COBALT SS) TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP NEAR ME IN MASSACHUSETTS, AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR BRAKES WERE WORN TO THE POINT JUST BEFORE A SENSOR GOING OFF. THE CAR ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT AND REAR BRAKES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE ONES THAT LAST LONGER THAN FRONT ONES BUT MY FRONT ARE FINE. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX THE BRAKES UNDER THE 3 YEAR 36,000 [I]UNLIMITED[/I] WARRANTY OR THE 2 YEAR 20,000 MILE MAINTENANCE WARRANTY. DRIVING A RENTED 2010 CHEVY COBALT LT, 4 DOOR. HAD RENTED THE VEHICLE FROM ALAMO RENTAL CARS ON 7/2/11 THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON 7/6/11. MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING ON I-4 EAST JUST OUTSIDE ORLANDO, FLA. WHEN THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME PUT ON HIS BRAKES, I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON THE COBALT AND IMMEDIATELY THE CAR WAS VIOLENTLY OUT OF CONTROL. THE CAR GOING OUT OF CONTROL WAS SO VIOLENT I THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR. ONCE THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL I COULD NOT CONTROL IT AT ALL. WE CROSSED ALL 3 LANES OF FREEWAY AND HIT THE LEFT REAR TANDEM WHEELS OF AN 18 WHEELER. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE CENTER LANE FACING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC FLOW. JUST A FEW MORE INCHES TOWARD THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHEN CONTACT WAS MADE WITH THE 18 WHEELER AND THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN BEATING MYSELF UP TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY JUST APPLYING THE BRAKES WOULD CAUSE SUCH A VIOLENT AND UNCONTROLLABLE TURN OF EVENTS. THEN I STARTED RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND FOUND THAT BRAKE ISSUES WITH THE COBALT IS NOT A NEW ISSUE. THERE IS DATA ON BRAKE PROBLEMS AND INDIVIDUALS ACCOUNTS OF WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM WHEN THEIR COBALTS WENT OUT OF CONTROL JUST FROM APPLYING THE BRAKES. MANY OF THESE ACCOUNTS STATED THAT DEALERS FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES FOLLOWING THESE INSTANCES OF GOING OUT OF CONTROL AND IN MANY CASES BEING INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. THIS WAS THE MOST HORRIFIC INCIDENT MY WIFE AND I HAVE EVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AND THE REALITY IS THAT WE WERE INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT SIMPLY BECAUSE I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON THE 2010 CHEVY COBALT RENTAL. WE WERE NOT HIT FROM BEHIND AND THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE 18 WHEELER. *TR

THE CONTACT NOTICED NO PROBLEMS UNTIL A FEW DAYS AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,041. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50.
