TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A PRIVATE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM THAT THE RIMS ON THE VEHICLE WERE CRACKING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I WAS JUST DRIVING ALONG WHEN SUDDENLY A CHIME SOUNDED AND "POWER STEERING" APPEARED ON MY DASH INSTRUMENTS. I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE CAR. WHEN IT WAS RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING WAS RESET. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ONCE ON 6/27/12 AND THEN THREE TIMES ON 6/28/12 (ONCE ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH). ACCORDING TO WEBSITES, THIS POWER STEERING LOSS IS A PROBLEM WITH CHEVY COBALTS AND THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2010. HOWEVER, MY COBALT VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON. IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE, APPARENTLY, THIS IS A PROBLEM IN UN-RECALLED COBALTS AND COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WHEN POWER STEERING IS LOST THE CAR BECOMES VERY HARD TO STEER AND THERE'S NOT ALWAYS A PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SO YOU TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT. PLUS, THERE'S NO WARNING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING IMMEDIATELY FAILED. THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL AFTER BEING SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 51,000.
THIS CAR STARTED LOSING POWER ON THE HWY AROUND 60MPH NOW THE PROBLEM HAS GROWN TO CAR LOSING POWER AND DYING ON THE HWY AT 60 MPH AND DIFFERENT SPEEDS WHILE THE STEERING LOCKS WHEN CAR DIES I HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO GM AND IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP FOR A MONTH AND THEY CAN NOT FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS THIS PROBLEM COULD CAUSE ME TO BE REAR ENDED OR WRECK AS THE STEERING LOCKS WHEN THE CAR DIES MAYBE YOU CAN HELP ME I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND FOR OTHERS ON THE ROAD WITH ME. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND FREQUENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHO STATED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY AN EMISSION PROBLEM. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THERE WAS A RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:10V073000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
AFTER RUNNING MULTIPLE ERRANDS AROUND TOWN, I PULLED BACK INTO MY WORK PARKING LOT AND AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO STOP, I HEARD A FAINT 'DING' NOISE AND LOOKED DOWN AND MY DISPLAY SAID "POWER STEERING" AND THEN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP! I WAS GLAD TO BE SLOWING TO STOP AS THE WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. I TURNED OFF MY ENGINE AND WENT INSIDE WORK. AFTER 10 MINUTES I CAME BACK OUTSIDE TO LOOK AT THE MANUAL TO SEE WHERE THE POWER STEERING FLUID CONTAINER WAS INSIDE THE HOOD AND START THE CAR AGAIN. THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM WAS GONE. AND I POPPED THE HOOD AND DID NOT SEE A FLUID CONTAINER FOR THE PS. I CALLED THE DEALER AS MY CAR IS TWO YEARS OLD BUT I HAD JUST PURCHASED IT TWO MONTHS AGO AND HAD ONLY PUT ON LESS THAN 1,500 MILES. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME TODAY (ONE DAY AFTER THE INCIDENT). THE TECH WHO CHECKED ME IN, TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO PS FLUID CONTAINER TO FILL, AS IT IS ALL MOTOR/ELECTRONIC DRIVEN. HE SAID THEY WOULD LOOK IT OVER AND LET ME KNOW. I DID PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE CAME WITH A TWO YEAR CERTIFIED USED WARRANTY AS WELL. THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR AND THAT THEY WOULD BE REPLACING IT AT NO CHARGE AS I HAD THE WARRANTY. THE PAPERWORK STATES THEY PUT A REBUILT PS ASSIST MOTOR INTO MY 2010 COBALT. NOW AFTER BEING ONLINE AND READING MULTIPLE YEARS OF REVIEWS REGARDING 2005, 2006 & 2007 COBALT'S, I AM WONDERING WHERE DOES IT END? HOW MANY MORE YEARS WORTH OF CARS ARE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS? WHY HAS A RECALL NOT BEEN DONE ON ANY OF THESE YEARS CARS? I DRIVE MY CAR ON LONG FAMILY TRIPS AS WELL AS MANY WORK TRIPS, WHICH IS WHY I GOT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE TO COMBAT THE HIGHER GAS PRICES AND GET BETTER FUEL EFFICIENCY. I WAS DRIVING AND THE CHECK POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STEER THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN DICKSON TN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT YES THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM HOWEVER MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE GM HOTLINE BUT WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THE VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANT NOW FOR THAT PROBLEM AND I JUST PURCHASED IT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. CAN'T LET MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER DRIVE DUE TO FEAR THAT FAILURE WILL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND THAT MY INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD DISALLOW ANY CLAIM ON THIS VEHICLE FOR AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A RECALL AND STEERING FAILURE. I DON'T HAVE ANY CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE THIS CAR AS IT IS MY PRIMARY SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION AND CAN'T AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECOMMENDING A RECALL CONCERNING SEAT BELT STOPS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE SEAT BELT STOPS FAILED TWICE. WHEN THEY BROKE, THE SEAT BUCKLE DROPPED ON THE STRAP BELOW THE SEAT BETWEEN THE ROCKER PANEL, WHICH MADE IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RETRIEVE THE BUCKLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PART WAS AN INEXPENSIVE TWO-PART BUTTON THAT WENT THROUGH THE STRAP WHICH STOPPED THE BUCKET FROM SLIDING DOWN ON THE BELT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT STOP. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR BRAKES DID NOT ADJUST. THE DEALER INDICATED THE REAR BRAKES NEED TO BE ADJUSTED. THE DEALER INDICATED, HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM ADJUSTED. HOWEVER, IT APPEARED THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE SUPPOSE TO AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST, UPON BACKING UP. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING, HE HEARD A LOUD SOUND. SOON AFTER, ABOUT 1/2 GALLON OF WATER SPILLED ONTO THE PASSENGER FLOOR AND THEN CONTINUED TO DRIP DOWN THE BLOWER MOTOR/ THE DEALER STATED THE AC DRAIN EVAPORATOR BOX FILLED UP FROM THE OUTSIDE DRAIN. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT NOTHING TO CLEAR OFF THE COWL AREA AND THEY DID NOT ATTEMPT TO VACUUM UP THE WATER. UPDATED 08/20/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE TRAVELING 10 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING HAD SUDDENLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF AND ON (MULTIPLE TIMES) WHICH AFFECTS THE FUEL AND RPM GAUGES, LOSS OF ALL POWER STEERING, ALL ELECTRICAL STARTS GOING CRAZY (LOCKS AND UNLOCKS THE DOORS), STARTS FLASHING "LOW FUEL" AND "POWER STEERING" WARNINGS AND THEN CAR WILL GO INTO COMPLETE LOCK MODE. AS OF 4/30: HAS BEEN FIXED UNDER THE RECALL ISSUE, HOWEVER VEHICLE IS STILL HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. *JS
HELLO. MY 2010 CHEVY COBALT HAS BEEN PLAGUED WITH SERVICE AIR BAG ISSUES FOR A LONG TIME. MY CONCERN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS ONLY A SMOKE SCREEN COMPARED TO THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW WHEN THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, THE AIR BAGS SYSTEM WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED. I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED A COUPLE TIMES AND INVESTED OVER $700.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED AND IT IS STILL BROKEN. I WAS TOLD THEY KNOW ABOUT A FAULTY DESIGN WITH THE MAIN COM WIRE THAT GOES UNDER THE CARPET AND PASSENGER SEAT TO THE AIR BAG CONTROL BOX TO BREAK THUS RENDERING THE SYSTEM FAULT. THEY REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS IN MY STEERING WHEEL AND IT WORKED FOR A LITTLE WHILE BUT CAME BACK. NOW MY CRUISE CONTROL IS ALSO BROKEN ALONG WITH THE FAULTY AIR BAG SYSTEM. *TT
I PURCHASED THE CAR ON 3/12/2012, AND TOOK POSSESSION OF THE CAR ON 3/15/2012, I HAVE NOT EVEN MADE MY FIRST PAYMENT YET. WHILE DRIVING ERROR MESSAGE ON DASH DISPLAYED "POWER STEERING" AND WARNING CHIME SOUNDED AT THE SAME MOMENT THE POWER STEERING FAILED, EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, APPROX. 100 FEET AFTER PUTTING IT IN DRIVE THE WARNING LIGHT DISPLAYS "POWER STEERING" AND WARNING CHIME SOUNDS AND ONCE AGAIN THE POWER STEERING FAILS. WE CHECKED THE CHEVY SITE AND IT STATES THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE, BUT THROUGH RESEARCH (AFTER THE FACT) I SEE THAT CHEVY COBALT 2005 - 2010 WERE RECALLED FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM IN 2010. THROUGH EMAILS WITH A CHEVY REPRESENTATIVE OF THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER, THEY STATED THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALLS EITHER. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AND I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND STILL OWE $13000 ON IT. *JS

I BOUGHT THIS CAR FAIRLY NEW. AT FIRST THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. BUT AFTER A COUPLE THOUSAND MILES I STARTED TO HEAR A RATTLE NOISE. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN IT TO THE SHOP 6 + TIMES. THEY KEEP SENDING ME AROUND WITH THEIR BULL CRAP SAYING ITS THIS, ITS THAT, WHEN IN FACT ITS MOST LIKELY THE STEERING RECALL/PROBLEM. WHEN THEY REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN IT STOPPED, BUT ONLY TO COME BACK AFTER A COUPLE MORE THOUSAND MILES. *KB
MY DAUGHTER WAS TRAVELING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD WHEN THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. THE VEHICLE WENT FROM SIDE TO SIDE MOVING FROM THE RIGHT OF THE ROAD TO THE LEFT OF THE ROAD WHILE FIGHTING THE WHEEL. SHE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND HER ARMS GAVE OUT AND SHE COULD NOT FIGHT IT ANYMORE AND THEN THE CAR FLIPPED AND ENDED UP ON ITS SIDE AFTER HITTING A FENCE AND FENCE POST. THE REAR AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS AND PEOPLE NEED TO COME FORWARD WITH THIS INFORMATION. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE BEFORE MORE PEOPLE LOOSE THEIR LIVES. I COULD HAVE LOST MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE OF A DEFECT FOR WHICH I HAVE NEVER REC'D A NOTICE. *JB
VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO STEER AND LOST POWER AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. NOTHING ON THE CAR WOULD WORK AND FINALLY I WAS UNABLE TO FIGHT THE WHEEL ANYMORE AND THE CAR FLIPPED. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I THINK THAN AN INVESTIGATION FOR THE NEWER MODELS OF THE COBALT BE DONE AS WELL. FROM THE DESCRIPTION THAT WAS GIVEN FOR THE SUIT THAT IS NOW ONGOING WITH THE GM IGNITION PROBLEM, MY CAR DID THE EXACT SAME THING. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THIS ACCIDENT,. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS HORRIBLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER ASSIST WAS LOCKED BY THE COMPUTER AND WOULD NEED TO BE RESET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH THE RACK AND PINION, THE COIL AND THE STEERING WHEEL WERE FRACTURED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 33,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING CIRCUIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,320 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,400.
DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 -15 MPH, THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND STOPPED AFTER MAKING A LEFT TURN. A WARNING CHIME STARTED AND THE INFORMATION DISPLAY SHOWED "POWER STEERING". TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED SECONDS BEFORE THE POWER STEERING SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN COASTED THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT WAS TURNED OFF AND ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SHORTLY THEREAFTER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. WHEN COP #2 CAME UP HE WAS THE ONE THAT TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE WITH THESE CARS. I GOOGLED IT, THEN I PULLED THE POWER STEERING FUSE OUT & LUCKILY IT RESET COMPUTER SO I COULD DRIVE IT TO DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED. NOW IS NEXT ONE THEY INSTALL GOING TO BE ANY SAFER? NOT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ. OWE WAY TOO MUCH ON CAR TO TRADE IN NOW OR I WILL BE IN THE HOLE. SO I AM DRIVING SCARED IN A 1 YEAR OLD CAR. *TR

I BROUGHT MY CAR (2010 CHEVROLET COBALT SS) TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP NEAR ME IN MASSACHUSETTS, AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR BRAKES WERE WORN TO THE POINT JUST BEFORE A SENSOR GOING OFF. THE CAR ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT AND REAR BRAKES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE ONES THAT LAST LONGER THAN FRONT ONES BUT MY FRONT ARE FINE. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX THE BRAKES UNDER THE 3 YEAR 36,000 [I]UNLIMITED[/I] WARRANTY OR THE 2 YEAR 20,000 MILE MAINTENANCE WARRANTY. I HAVE A NEW 2010 COBALT AND I NOW FIND THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING , MY COBALT IS NOT PART OF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST RECALL . I STARTED NOTICING THE PROBLEM WHILE TURNING , I SEEM TO LOOSE POWER STEERING FROM TIME TO TIME AND I DON'T GET A WARNING LIGHT . THIS HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS AS WELL AS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT IS HARDER AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS STIFF LIKE I SAY SEEMS LIKE I LOOSE POWER STEERING . I HAD IT INTO THE DEALER TO CONFIRM THAT IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND THEY SAY THERE MECHANICS WHERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE SO THEY SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND THEY CHECKED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST AND THEY DID NOT SEE A PROBLEM WITH IT . THE TIGHT STEERING HAPPENS ON AND OFF AND DOES NOT SEEM TO FOLLOW ANY PATTERN . I STARTED NOTICING THIS PROBLEM AT ABOUT 15K KM . THE CONTACTS SPOUSE INSTALLED THE INFLATER KIT AND WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE IT THE INFLATER EXPLODED CAUSING HIM SECOND DEGREE BURNS ON HIS RIGHT AND LEFT ARMS, FEET, AND LEGS. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DOCTORS WERE UNABLE TO NEUTRALIZE THE SUBSTANCE AND STATED THEY NEEDED THE REPAIR KIT FOR EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO TREAT THE BURNS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE INFLATER KIT HAD TO BE SURRENDERED IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DRIVING A RENTED 2010 CHEVY COBALT LT, 4 DOOR. HAD RENTED THE VEHICLE FROM ALAMO RENTAL CARS ON 7/2/11 THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON 7/6/11. MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING ON I-4 EAST JUST OUTSIDE ORLANDO, FLA. WHEN THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME PUT ON HIS BRAKES, I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON THE COBALT AND IMMEDIATELY THE CAR WAS VIOLENTLY OUT OF CONTROL. THE CAR GOING OUT OF CONTROL WAS SO VIOLENT I THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR. ONCE THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL I COULD NOT CONTROL IT AT ALL. WE CROSSED ALL 3 LANES OF FREEWAY AND HIT THE LEFT REAR TANDEM WHEELS OF AN 18 WHEELER. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE CENTER LANE FACING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC FLOW. THEN I STARTED RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND FOUND THAT BRAKE ISSUES WITH THE COBALT IS NOT A NEW ISSUE. THERE IS DATA ON BRAKE PROBLEMS AND INDIVIDUALS ACCOUNTS OF WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM WHEN THEIR COBALTS WENT OUT OF CONTROL JUST FROM APPLYING THE BRAKES. MANY OF THESE ACCOUNTS STATED THAT DEALERS FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES FOLLOWING THESE INSTANCES OF GOING OUT OF CONTROL AND IN MANY CASES BEING INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. THIS WAS THE MOST HORRIFIC INCIDENT MY WIFE AND I HAVE EVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AND THE REALITY IS THAT WE WERE INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT SIMPLY BECAUSE I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON THE 2010 CHEVY COBALT RENTAL. AIR BAG SERVICE INDICATOR COMES ON AND AIR BAGS BECOME INOPERABLE. THIS HAS OCCURED MULTIPLE TIMES IN BETWEEN 3 TRIPS TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. FIRST TIME AT DEALER: DEALER CLAIMED TO ORDER PARTS BUT NEVER DID. SECOND TIME AT DEALER: DEALER CLAIMED TO HAVE REPLACED PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR AND MODULE. THIRD TIME AT DEALER: DEALER CLAIMED ELECTRONIC DEVICES SUCH AS CELL PHONES PLACED ON SEAT WILL TRIGGER THE SERVICE AIR BAG NOTIFICATION. THE DEALER CLAIMED NHTSA REFERENCE #10030788 AND TSB REFERENCE #SB-08-09-41-007A COVERED THE INCIDENT AND NO FURTHER DIAGNOSE NEEDED. HOWEVER, THE REFERENCED ITEMS DOES NOT MENTION A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT. FYI, ANY FAILURE IN THE SYSTEM DISABLES THE COMPLETE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND WOULD RESULT IN ONE OR MORE FATAL INJURIES IF NOT FIXED PROPERLY. I WAS DRIVING A 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT ON THURSDAY MORNING APRIL 17TH AROUND 4 AM. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 170 GOING SOUTH. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN IN THE LEFT LANE GOING 65 MPH. I WAS APPROACHING THE SPLIT-OFF WHERE YOU CAN GO ONTO 64 EAST OR WEST. THE COBALT STARTED TO VEER TOWARDS THE RIGHT. I CORRECTED IT BACK TO THE LEFT AND THAT'S WHEN THE VEHICLE WENT COMPLETELY TO THE RIGHT AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND I HIT THE MIDDLE DIVIDER THAT DIVIDES THE RAMPS EXIT. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED AND WE ARE CURRENTLY AWAITING INSPECTION.

ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 20TH, I WAS DRIVING BACK TO MY BOYFRIENDS HOUSE FROM WORK. I GOT OFF AROUND 7:30 AM SO IT WAS AROUND 8 AM WHEN I REACHED THE EXIT FOR HIS HOUSE. I SLOWED THE CAR TO TAKE THE EXIT RAMP TO 40 MPH WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR THEN VEERED HARD TO THE RIGHT AND I TRIED TO STRAIGHTEN OUT THE WHEEL AS I LET OFF THE BRAKES. INSTEAD THE CAR VEERED TO THE LEFT AND I STARTED TO HYDROPLANE. I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND BEGAN TO SPIN. MY STEERING WHEEL THEN LOCKED UP. AS I WAS SPINNING, THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR STRUCK A LIGHT REFLECTOR POLE AND SHATTERED MY BACK PASSENGER WINDOW IN THE PAIN AND DENTED THE CAR AND REMOVED PAINT. IT ALSO MESSED UP MY BACK ALIGNMENT. FOR THE FIRST FEW MINUTES MY CAR WOULD NOT EVEN START BACK UP AND THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED IN PLACE. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOME DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED. AFTER INSPECTING THE CAR, THEY SAID THAT NO CODES FOR POWER STEERING HAD POPPED UP, YET THEY DID NOT ACTUALLY DRIVE THE CAR TO SEE HOW IT DROVE. THEREFORE, I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET AT A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED.

WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED OVER TO THE DEALER WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY WERE CHECKING THE VIN FOR THE RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED FOR MANY OF THESE CARS. AFTER CHECKING WE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL UP TO MARCH OF 2010, OURS WE ARE TOLD WAS BUILT IN APRIL OF 2010. OBVIOUSLY, THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE 2010 COBALT SINCE THIS WAS THE LAST YEAR THEY HAD PRODUCTION ON THIS VEHICLE, WE WERE NOT AWARE THEY HAD STOPPED THE PRODUCTION OF THIS MODEL AT THE TIME WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. TOOK IT BACK TO SAME PLACE 02/25/2012 SAME NOISE THEY DID THE SAME THING AND SAID THEY FIXED PROBLEM. 03/02/2012 TOOK TO DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO REPAIR NOISE HEAD OF SERVICE SAID 2010 CHEVY COBALT'S MAKE THIS NOISE IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND DID NOT REPAIR AT ALL. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TO FIND IF THERE IS A RECALL AND FOUND YOUR WEBSITE TO FILE A COMPLAINT.
