THE FAILURE PROGRESSED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND THEN THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V500000 (AIR BAGS). THE DEALER STATED THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT NEED THE REPAIR BUT THE CONTACT WAS EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE RELATED TO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAD SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND MY STEERING WHEEL HAD TIGHTENED UP , MAKING MY CAR GO TOWARDS ONCOMING TRAFFIC . HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS TO FORCEFULLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL . HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 MORE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT . I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR 03-17-15.

I WAS DRIVING ON MARCH 10TH 2015 AND THE MESSAGE SERVICE AIR BAGS CAME ON SO I CALLED THE CHEVY CUSTOMER CARE NUMBER AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE CONCERNED FOR MY AND MY FAMILY SAFETY AND AGREED TO PAY FOR THE FIRST HOUR OF DIAGNOSTIC THEY CONTACTED THE DEALER SMITH CHEVY IN LOWELL INDIANA SO I TOOK IT TO DEALER SMITH CHEVY IN LOWELL INDIANA AND THE PUT IT ON THE MACHINE FOR DIAGNOSTIC WHICH CHEVY PAID FOR SMITH CHEVY TOLD ME IT WAS A RESET LIKE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND IT RESET IT SELF AND IF I HAD ANY PROBLEMS TO BRING IT BACK. ON MONDAY MARCH 16TH 2015 WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THE SERVICE AIR BAG MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN AND ALSO THE LIGHT CAME ON ALSO NOW AT THIS POINT THE MESSAGE AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. I READ THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR MY CHEVY COBALT AND THE WARNING STATES 'IF THE AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT STAYS ON AFTER THE VEHICLE IS STARTED OR COME ON WHILE DRIVING IT MEANS THE AIRBAG SYSTEM MIGHT NOT BE WORKING PROPERLY. THE AIRBAG IN THE VEHICLE MIGHT NOT INFLATE IN A CRASH OR THEY COULD EVEN INFLATE WITHOUT A CRASH. TO HELP AVOID INJURY, HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED RIGHT AWAY". SO I CALL CHEVY CUSTOMER CARE AGAIN AND THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER#71-1451260282 I SPOKE WITH MARK NUMBER 1-866-790-5700 EXT 41569 HE TOLD ME TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT CHECKED. I ASK MARK IF THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO HELP ME PAY FOR THIS BUT HE SAID IT DEPENDS ON WHAT IT IS AND STATED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF YEARS AND MILEAGE. POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST WHILE I WAS TRYING TO PARALLEL PARKING EARLY THIS YEAR. LATERLY I CHANGED A NEW ELECTRIC POWER STREERING MOTOR ,BUT WHEN I TRY TO DO PARALLEL PARKING,THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST AGAIN.

OCCASIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

MY BOYFRIEND AND I WERE ON OUR WAY HOME FROM CHICAGO (ON I-80/90) WHEN WE HIT A BIT OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW AND ICE. THE SNOW CAUSED OUR CAR TO LOSE TRACTION WHICH IN TURN CAUSED US TO HIT A GUARD RAIL HEAD ON WHILE GOING ROUGHLY 50-55 MPH. OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF EVEN THOUGH WE HIT THE GUARD RAIL HEAD ON. WE ENDED UP BEING PERPENDICULAR IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND WAS HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. AGAIN, OUR AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF WHICH WOULD MAKE FOR A TOTAL OF 4 AIRBAGS THAT WERE AFFECTED. I WAS UNAWARE OF AFFECTED AIR BAGS - I ONLY KNEW ABOUT MY IGNITION SWITCH WHICH WAS FIXED MONTHS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE POWER STEERING THING COMES ON THINKING IT NEEDED FLUID I STOPPED TO CHECK THERE WAS NONE AND IT WAS HARD TO DRIVE I MADE IT BACK HOME CHECKING THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE CAR I WAS DRIVING SO I FOUND THIS SITE THAT'S WHY AM COMPLAINING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE IN DECEMBER OF 2014 AND OPENED A CASE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT HAD NOT SINCE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WHEN ALL ELECTRICAL DASHBOARD WENT DOWN. FIRST LIGHT TO COME ON THE VEHICLE WAS THE SECURITY SYSTEM LIGHT WHICH WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT YOUR CAR IS SUPPOSE TO SHUT DOWN IF STOLEN THEN IT WENT OFF AFTER A FEW MINUTES. ONCE THAT LIGHT WENT OFF THEN THE VEHICLE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT PICK UP SPEED NOR DROVE PROPERLY OR SAFELY. THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO WENT OFF. POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON TOO. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER FOR ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, CRUISE CONTROL AND POWER STEERING. ONCE PULLED OVER ON SIDE OF THE ROAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TOO. TRIED TO START DRIVING THE VEHICLE AGAIN TO GET IT OFF THE HIGHWAY VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE COULDN'T REACH SPEED VERY SLOW - DID NOT DRIVE PROPERLY. SAFELY PULLED OVER AGAIN AND SHUT VEHICLE OFF. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OTHER LIGHTS ON DASH STAYED ON. COULD NOT GET KEY OUT OF IGNITION IT STAYED IN THE 2ND SWITCH STUCK (NOT RUNNING). TOW TRUCK DRIVER HAD TO COME AND TOW BECAUSE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START NOR WOULD THE KEY COME OUT. FINALLY TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND TOWED IT TO A SHOP. NEXT DAY SHOP TURNED ON THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH ELECTRICAL PANEL. RAN NUMEROUS TEST ON VEHICLE INCLUDING DEALER DRIVING VEHICLE AND STILL NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. THEY SAY THEY CAN'T FIX ANYTHING BECAUSE NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH CHEVROLET VEHICLES AND THE ELECTRICAL PANELS GOING DOWN IN WHICH I LOST ALL CRUISE CONTROL, TRACTION CONTROL, ABS, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL AND PANIC BRAKING ASSIST OPERATION. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY. *TR
GM DEALER RECALLED CAR TO FIX ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. TOOK CAR IN AND HAD PART REPLACED BUT WHEN CAR WAS DRIVEN HOME IT HAD A GRINDING NOISE AND WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER, WHICH WAS NOT A PROBLEM BEFORE RECALL. RETURNED TO DEALER WHO REPLACED SAID MOTOR AGAIN, WITH SAME RESULTS. RETURNED VEHICLE TO DEALER AGAIN ON 12/30/2014 TO DO DIAGNOSTIC ON PROBLEM WITH STEERING, REALER SAID THERE IS NO DANGER TO DRIVE VEHICLE BUT NEEDS STEERING COLUMN WHICH DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE UNLESS I ABSORB THE COST THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS WITH STEERING BEFORE DEALER EXCHANGED THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. *TR

THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
RAN OVER A ROCK WHICH DID SOME DAMAGE TO THE UNDERNEATH OF MY CAR....TOOK IT TO GOODYEAR BECAUSE IT WAS CLOSEST.THEY "WORKED ON IT TO THE TUNE OF OVER $7,000 AND THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS CONTINUED TO COME ON SINCE THE DAY I DRIVE IT HOME, WHICH I POINTED OUT TO THEM BEFORE DRIVING AWAY I HAVE GONE BACK NUMEROUS TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THINGS WILL BE OKAY, BUT IF THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTS BLINKING TO GET IT TO THEM ASAP. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET MY RECALLED IGNITION FIXED. IN THE BROCHURE THAT THEY SENT ME TO NOTIFY ME IT SAYS THAT I WILL GET A COMPLIMENTARY VEHICLE WHILE MINE IS FIXED. I CALLED 2 DEALERS ONE IN BURLINGAME AND ONE IN COLMA AND THEY WERE RUDE AS IF I WERE ASKING A FAVOR AND TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO RENT A CAR THAT THEY DON'T GIVE COMPLIMENTARY VEHICLES. IN MARCH I CALLED THEIR 800 NUMBER 1-800-222-1020 THEY GAVE ME THE RUNAROUND AND TOLD ME THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK. I WANT THIS TO BE PROOF THAT I AM TRYING TO GET MY VEHICLE FIXED IN CASE AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS BECAUSE OF THE RECALL PARTS AND THEY SAY IT IS MY FAULT FOR NOT TRYING TO GET IT FIXED.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

PURCHASED CAR USED 4/2014. OIL LEAK REPORTED TO DEALER AND REPAIRED 4/2014. CAR TAKEN BACK TO DEALER FOR SERVICE 8/2014 FOR CONTINUING OIL LEAK. PER DEALER, ENGINE WAS BADLY CAST, CAUSING IT TO BE POROUS. OIL WAS WEEPING THROUGH ENGINE BLOCK. ENTIRE ENGINE NOW BEING REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NO RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
AFTER RECEIVING MY CAR FROM THE REQUIRED RECALL ON THE STEERING ASSIST MOTOR, I NOTICE THAT THERE WAS AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF "PLAY" IN THE STEERING. THIS ALMOST CAUSED 2 COLLISION WITHIN THE FEW HOURS I HAD RECEIVED MY CAR FROM THE DEALER. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM 69.95 FOR THEM TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM, I DECLINED. THE DEALER KNOWINGLY ALLOWED TO PUT ME AND MY FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK OF INJURY. I HAVE HAD THE CAR REPAIRED, BY RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THE SOLUTION WAS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE FOR ABOUT AND HOUR. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE BY THE DEALER AND THEY CHOSE TO PUT $70.00 OVER THE LIFE OF MYSELF OR A FAMILY MEMBER. *TR

THE KEY WAS DIFFICULT TO ADJUST AND REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WHILE DRIVING TO A LOCAL BUSINESS IN MY 2010 CHEVY COBALT, I LOST THE POWER STEERING TO MY VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THANKFULLY I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY ON A STRAIGHT ROAD WITH MINIMAL TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME. TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING QUIT SUDDENLY WAS SHOCKING AND FRIGHTENING AND I'M VERY THANKFUL THAT I WASN'T DRIVING IN MORE CHALLENGING CONDITIONS. *TR
I HAVE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN MAY THAT THIS VEHICLE MODEL HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN NUMEROUS WRECKS RELATED TO FATALITIES/INJURIES AND I WAS DIRECTED TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP ON 5/15/2014 AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD ORDER THE PARTS AND THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN SO THEY COULD FIX IT. AS OF TODAY(7/16/2014) THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. GM APPARENTLY HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2004 AND NEGLECTED TO NOTIFY THE PUBLIC OR TAKE CORRECTIVE MEASURES IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS SINCE 2004. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND DO NOT SEE THE PROBLEM BEING CORRECTED IN A TIMELY MANNER. I AM REQUESTING YOU EVALUATE IF THERE IS ANY WAY GM CAN BE REQUIRED TO BUY THESE VEHICLES FROM US SO WE CAN PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE AND NOT CONTINUE TO PUT MY LIFE AND MANY OTHERS IN THE SAME SITUATION AT RISK ON A DAILY BASIS. *TR
