Rear leaf spring mounts and frame rusting through causing a safety hazard. Chevrolet doesn't offer a repair part nor does the aftermarket. The internet is ripe with other owners experiencing this or similar issues. The consumer stated there is frame corrosion specifically rear frame shackle mounts and lateral supports. The contact believes that the failure comes from the frame being made with the wrong metal thickness or metal that is not rust-proof. The vehicle was taken to a specialty shop to weld the frame, but the contact believes that is not the best way to fix the issue.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COLORADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUBFRAME AND BRACKETS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE CORROSION WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BAUMANN CHEVROLET BUICK GMC INC (2291 OH-18, TIFFIN, OH 44883) WHERE HE WAS PROVIDED THE NUMBER TO NHTSA AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. FRONT WHEEL BEARING HUB WHICH HOUSES THE SPEED SENSOR FOR THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES. *TR
FRONT END WILL NOT STAY ALIGNED CAUSING HEAVY WEAR ON INSIDE TIRE TREAD. HAVE HAD TRUCK RE ALIGNED SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL SETS OF TIRES DUE TO THIS PROBLEM FIRST NOTICED IT IN 2007 AND HAVE REPLACED TIRES AT LEAST 5 TIMES JUST RECENTLY REPLACED AGAIN IM NOW AT 80,000 MILES THIS TIME WENT WITH 31X10.5X15 SEE HOW THIS GOES. *TR

WE FEEL THAT 2006 CHEVROLET COLORADO PICKUP WE PURCHASED HAS A DEFECTIVE FRONT END. FRONT TIRE INSIDE TREAD WORE OFF AT 10,000 MILES. AT APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES IS DOING SAME THING. FRONT END IS PIGEON TOED?? DEALER SAYS IT IS BECAUSE WE DIDN'T ROTATE TIRES. WE DON'T BELIEVE THEM!! OUR MECHANIC DOESN'T EITHER!! WE THINK IT IS A DEFECTIVE FRONT END! *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE LEFT REAR LEAF ASSEMBLY FRACTURED WITHOUT WARNING WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A BARRICADE. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE POLICE WERE ALERTED AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE DEALER WAS ALERTED AND A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE WAS SCHEDULED TO PERFORM FURTHER INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 12/01/06. *JB
I HAVE A 2006 COLORADO 2006 CREW CAB L-5 ENGINE. I HAVE OWNED IT FOR 2 1/2 MONTHS. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR 1. REAR MAIN BEARING SEAL LEAK THREE TIMES. 2. TWO WHEEL ALIGNMENTS. 3. AUTO- TRANSMISSION CABLE FELL OFF. THIS WAS WHEN I WAS BRINGING IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR ONE OF THE MANY REPAIRS. 4. IT STILL HAS TO GO BACK FOR REPLACING THE REAR WINDOW (ON ORDER). THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 25% OF THE TIME I HAVE OWNED IT. *NM
