LOW BEAM TURN OFF DRIVING AT NIGHT
IT HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES OF THE EXCESSIVE BATTERY DRAINAGE OF THESE VEHICLES. GM DECIDED THAT THE CAR WOULD NEED TO BE PLACED IN REVERSE WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED FOR THE CAR TO BE TOTALLY TURNED OFF. THIS CAUSES THE BATTERY TO DRAIN EXCESSIVELY, I HAVE REPLACED 4 BATTERIES IN A YEAR. YOU WILL BE STRANDED WHEREVER YOU'RE AT. GM HAS NOT TRIED TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER. WHAT THEY DID WAS IN 2006 TOOK THE FUNCTION OFF THE CAR, SO THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BY GM, OR DOES IT TAKE A DEAD BATTERY, A JUMP ,AND A HALF CHARGED CAR TO SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE ROOF PANEL SEPARATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V491000 (STRUCTURE). IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY AND PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE STEERING REPOSITION SENSOR, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,835.
AUTOMATIC SHIFTER GETS STUCK ON PARK AND WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK RANDOMLY LEAVING STRANDED DIFFERENT TIMES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A THUMP SOUND ON THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO INSPECT, BUT FOUND NOTHING. WHILE PROCEEDING TO DRIVE AGAIN, THE CONTACT HEARD THE SAME NOISE AND AIR WHISTLING. THE CONTACT THOUGHT THE CONVERTIBLE ROOF WAS NOT LATCHED PROPERLY AND PULLED OVER ONCE AGAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THE ROOF WAS LATCHED CORRECTLY AND HE DECIDED TO REMOVE THE TOP. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME FOR THE TOP WAS SEPARATING FROM THE BODY PANEL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
FOR 2 YEARS WHEN PARKED I HAVE BEEN PUSHING SHIFTER FORWARD TO GET IT TO RELEASE FROM PARK. HAPPENS 50 PERCENT OF THE TIME. HAVE 26000 MILES ON CAR. CHEVROLET FIXED ONCE AND LASTED 100 MILES. RESEARCH INTERNET SHOWS ME MANY PEOPLE HAVE AND CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. EXPENSIVE CAR AND CHEVROLET SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM. NEVER HAD ANY CAR DO THIS. PROBLEM SEVERITY IS ENOUGH TO SELL CAR AND AVOID CORVETTE.
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT ROUGHLY 10MPH, MY CAR JAMMED ON THE FRONT LEFT, THEN BOTH FRONT BRAKES, BRINGING ME TO A SUDDEN STOP. ACTIVE HANDLING WAS SHOWING IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CLUSTER JUST LIKE WHEN YOUR CAR LOSES TRACTION FOR ANY REASON... I THOUGHT THIS WAS VERY ODD AS IT WASN'T RAINING, NO SAND OR FLUIDS WERE PRESENT ON THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME, AND I WAS BARELY TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I THEN CHECKED TO SEE IF I HAD RUN SOMETHING OVER OR IF ANYTHING WAS JAMMED IN THE WHEELS/BRAKES.... NOTHING VISIBLE. I GET BACK IN, REVERSE JUST FINE, BUT AS SOON AS I SHIFT BACK TO FIRST AND ATTEMPT FORWARD MOTION BOOM IT JAMS THE BRAKES ON AGAIN. I THEN RE-CLUTCHED, TRIED AGAIN WITH A LITTLE MORE GAS, THINKING MAYBE I DO HAVE SOMETHING STUCK UNDER THE CAR.... NOPE, IT STILL BRINGS ME TO A STOP IMMEDIATELY. AT THIS POINT, I WAS FREAKED OUT....(NEEDLESS TO SAY) I HELD THE ACTIVE HANDLING (TRACTION CONTROL) BUTTON DOWN UNTIL THE SYSTEM WAS FULLY DISABLED, AFTER DOING THIS I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BACK TO WORK. I THEN FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL AND CALLED THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS RECALL FOR ACTIVE HANDLING HAD BEEN COMPLETED IN 2010. I ASKED THEM TO PLEASE VERIFY THIS AS I HAD A HEADLIGHT RECALL TO DO ANYWAYS AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. LONG STORY SHORT... THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME THAT THE PREVIOUS REPAIR HAD FAILED AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE DONE AGAIN. HE THEN TELLS ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO FIX MY CAR BECAUSE THEY ALREADY REPAIRED IT BACK IN 2010 AND THAT IT WOULD BE UP TO ME TO COVER THE COST. AFTER TRYING FOR OVER A WEEK TO CONVINCE THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING, I GAVE UP AND PAID THEM FOR THE REPAIR. IM VERY WORRIED THAT THIS WILL ALSO NOT HOLD UP. IF THIS REPAIR FAILED IN THE PAST, WHO IS TO SAY THAT IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN, AND THIS TIME IT COULD CAUSE A CRASH, EVEN DEATH. PLEASE HELP, SOMEONE HAS TO HOLD THESE PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE.
POWER STEERING HOSE LEAK, HAD DEALER REMOVE, REPLACE. I WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY PURCHASE, ALSO TAIL LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS INOPERABLE, HAD DEALER PERFORM SAFETY INSPECTION. ITEMS CORRECTED. RECENT PURCHASE JAN. 2016 USED.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN A BUSINESS SECTION OF TOWN ,I STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT AND MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN ON RED AS THE CAR STRAIGHTEN OUT I ACCELERATED AND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP CAUSING ME TO LOOSE CONTROL HITTING THE CURB AND ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. A MESSAGE ON MY INFORMATION DISPLAY SAID SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF IGNITION THEN RESTARTED MESSAGE WAS GONE AND THE BRAKES RELEASED. THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS INJURED. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR.

IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE MESSAGES "LOSS OF POWER" AND "TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM" WERE DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK
THIS CAR WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY AFTER THREE DAYS OF SITTING AND SOMETIMES AFTER ONE DAY OF SITTING. THIS A A MANUAL SHIFT CAR AND THOUSAND OF FELLOW C-6 CORVETTE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AND THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THE ISSUE. EVERY THING HAS BEEN CHECK IN MY CAR AND IS LISTED AS WORKING CORRECTLY FROM THE DEALERSHIP. MY CAR ONLY HAS 39,000 MILE AND IS FACTORY ORIGINAL. CARFAX HAS DOCUMENTATION OF ALL REPAIRS AND ISSUES. AS STATED THIS IS A 6 SPEED MANUAL SHIFT CAR. THE AUTOMATIC CARS ARE NOT EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I HAD TO HAVE THIS CAR JUMP STARTED 6 TIMES WITHIN 30 DAYS. HELP PLEASE!!!!
THERE IS A BATTERY DRAINING ISSUE WHICH THE DEALERSHIP AND THOUSANDS OF C-6 CORVETTE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING, PARTICULARLY THE 2005 YEAR. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR ONE MONTH AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT JUMPED NUMEROUS TIMES.. CARFAX HAS DOCUMENTATION ON FILE.
MY PROBLEM IS VERY SIMILAR TO BELOW. MY 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE WILL RUN FINE FOR A WHILE. THEN FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON, THE DIC WILL FLASH - CHECK TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ABS, ETC. IF I SHUT OFF THE CAR, THEN RESTART, THIS MESSAGE WILL STOP, BUT THE SECURITY LAMP WILL STAY ON. THE TIME BETWEEN INSTANCES WILL DECREASE UNTIL THE CAR WILL NOT START PERIODICALLY. I HAVE HAD THE BCM AND ECM CHANGED. THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM FOR A WHILE, BUT THE PROBLEM COMES BACK. I HAVE ALSO SEEN THE ERROR "NO FOB" EVEN WHEN A NEW BATTERY HAS BEEN PUT IN THE FOB AND IT WORKED JUST FINE AN HOUR AGO. THIS IS GETTING EXPENSIVE. I HAVE PUT NEW BATTERIES IN, NOTHING SEEMS TO PREVENT THIS FROM EVENTUALLY HAPPENING. THE CORVETTE FORUM HAS MANY POSTS ON THIS ISSUE. FROM ANOTHER POST: I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF DEAD BATTERY SYNDROME (DBS) SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2005 CORVETTE IN OCTOBER 2008. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST 4 TIMES. I HAVE BOUGHT THIS TO THE DEALERS AND GM'S ATTENTION AND THEY SAY THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS CONDITION AFFECTS VERY MANY 2005 MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS WITH MUCH DATA ON THE INTERNET ON FORUMS AND BLOGS. MANY OF US HAVE FOUND ALTERNATIVE METHODS TO KEEP THE CAR OPERABLE. GM NEEDS TO FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS CONDITION AND ISSUE A FIX.

AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT GOES ON, RENDERING AIRBAG INOPERATIVE. POOR CONNECTORS BELOW SEAT, A DESIGN FLAW, LEAD TO THIS. RECURS NO MATTER HOW OFTEN YOU RETURN TO DEALER. THIS IS SO COMMON IN 2005 CORVETTES, AND SO POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS, THAT ALL 2005 CORVETTES SHOULD BE RECALLED TO HAVE THIS DEFECT REPAIRED...
UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AND ENGINE RUNNING. HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES.
I PURCHASED MY CAR USED WITH 29000 MILES ON IT IN JULY 2015. GM DEALER STATED THAT ALL RECALLS WERE INCORPORATED. AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE SERVICED MONTHS LATER, THE MESSAGE : SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM APPEARS ON MY DISPLAY AFTER READJUSTING MY STEERING COLUMN. CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE MESSAGE HAS NOT REAPPEARED SINCE, HOWEVER THE STEERING COLUMN HAS NOT BEEN READJUSTED SINCE EITHER. IS THIS POSSIBLY A FAULTY INCORPORATION OF THE NHTSA RECALL NOTICE 10V172000? I CURRENTLY HAVE 31450 MILES ON THE ODOMETER.
SHIFT SOLENOID LOCKS AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BE RELEASED FROM PARK

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 05V455000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSED A SIGNAL INTERRUPTION WITHIN THE COLUMN AND A PART IN STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.
STRONG GASOLINE ORDER/FUMES IN CABIN OF CAR. SMELL SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM FUEL TANK AREA AND NOT UNDER HOOD.
WITH APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES ON MY 2005 CORVETTE, I BEGAN SMELLING GAS FUMES WHENEVER I WOULD FILL THE GAS TANK. THE FUMES WOULD FILL MY GARAGE AND ALSO LEAKED INTO MY HOUSE. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER ABOUT 7 WEEKS, THEY INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE ONE OF THE GAS TANKS AND THE REAR MAIN SEAL, WHICH COST $2,700. THE NIGHT I PICKED MY CAR UP FROM THE SHOP, I PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE. THE NEXT MORNING, MY GARAGE WAS ONCE AGAIN FILLED WITH FUMES, SO I DROPPED THE CORVETTE OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP AND LET THEM KNOW THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. ANOTHER TWO WEEKS, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING, SO I PICKED UP THE CAR. I DROVE IT FOR A WEEK WITHOUT ANY ISSUE WITH GAS FUMES UNTIL I FILLED UP THE TANK FOR THE FIRST TIME. THAT NIGHT, MY GARAGE AND HOUSE WERE FILLED WITH GAS FUMES. I DROPPED THE CORVETTE OFF AT THE DEALER THE NEXT MORNING (TWO WEEKS AGO) AND I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM YET. THE GAS FUME ISSUE IS OBVIOUSLY A FAIRLY COMMON AND SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH CORVETTES, BASED ON ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN AND MY OWN EXPERIENCE. THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE OR PARK IN A GARAGE, AND APPARENTLY THE SOURCE OF THE ISSUE IS DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. BASED ON THE NUMEROUS OCCURRENCES OF THIS ISSUE BASED ON COMPLAINTS FROM CORVETTE OWNERS, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR KILLED.
AIR BAG LIGHT ON BECAUSE OF FAULTY CONNECTOR DISABLING VEHICLE AIR BAGS. NOT SAFE.
GAS OVERFLOWS WHEN AN ATTENDENT TRYS TO FILL TANK FURTHER AFTER NOZZLE CLICKS GAS FLOW INSIDE FENDER AND OUT ABOVE ROCKER PANEL MELTS SOUND DEADENING
WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR AT NIGHT MY LOW BEAMS STOP WORKING AFTER 25MIN OF DRIVING IT. EVERYTHING ELSE IS WORKING FINE SO I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH MY HIGH BEAMS AND I'VE BEEN PULL OVER FOR DRIVING LIKE THAT. AFTER I PARK AND THE CAR SITS FOR FEW HOURS THE LOW BEAMS START TO WORK AGAIN.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,900.
UNABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR OUT OF "PARK" LEAVING ME STRANDED. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, AND HAPPENS 50% OF THE TIME.

THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
I WAS NEARLY INVOLVED IN 2 ACCIDENTS IN THE PAST WEEK AND I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE WHICH HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE ON IT (~42,000) FOR HOW OLD IT IS. THE PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING EXACTLY MATCHES A RECALL LISTED FOR 2005 CHEVY CORVETTES HOWEVER BECAUSE MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT LIST THAT RECALL CHEVY REFUSES TO HONOR IT. ONCOMING TRAFFIC TURNING ONTO THE STREET ONCE AGAIN NEARLY HIT ME AS I COULD NOT ACCELERATE OR MOVE THE CAR WITHOUT RESTARTING IT. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED A FEW TIMES TO ME WHILE IN THE PARKING LOT. THE MESSAGE, "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I WOULD LIKE TO GO ON RECORD STATING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM IN CASE FUTURE PROBLEM CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. *TR

FIRST OCCURRANCE WAS A MONTH OR TWO AGO. WE WERE EXITING A PARKING LOTAT ABOUT 5MPH WHEN THE CAR'S ACTIVE HANDLING LOCKED THE RIGHT SIDE BRAKES TO WHERE I COULD NOT KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WITHOUT A HEAVY THROTTLE TO OVERCOME THE BRAKES. SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING ICON LIT. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR DOWN FOR A MINUTE THEN RESTART TO CLEAR THE BRAKES. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, ALMOST IDENTICALLY. THE CAR WAS CHECKED BY THE DEALER BUT THERE WERE NO STORED CODES FOR THEM TO FOLLOW UP ON. APPARENTLY THE "MECHANICS" CANNOT PHYSICALLY INSPECT CARS ANYMORE. RECENTLY AND AFTER THE DEALER SERVICED THE CAR, IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WITH MY WIFE DRIVING. IT IS BACK AT THE DEALER AS WE SPEAK. WE ARE BOTH BEGINNING TO BE WORRIED ABOUT OUR SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHER MOTORISTS.
THERE IS A FUEL LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK ON MY 2005 C6 CORVETTE. YOU CAN SMELL IT IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WHEN YOU'RE DRIVING IT. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE IT IN CONFINED AREAS LIKE A GARAGE NEAR A WATER HEATER OF ANY KIND OR JUST ANY TYPE OF IGNITION SOURCE. THERE IS NOT A MANUFACTURER RECALL YET BUT THERE SHOULD BE ONE SHORTLY. FROM ALL THE CORVETTE OWNERS BLOG PAGES THIS SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING 2005-2008 C6 CORVETTES. GET YOUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. IT'S NOT SAFE OUTSIDE YOUR GARAGE EITHER TO OTHERS. THE FUEL TANK NEEDS TO BE DRAINED FOR IT TO BE COMPLETELY SAFE. DO NOT ATTEMPT DRAINING YOURSELF.
THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED 4 OR MORE TIMES. HOWEVER, THIS LAST TIME, I WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MILES PER HOUR ON THE I95. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE CAR ENGINE DIED ON ME AS HAS HAPPENED ON A NUMBER OF OTHER OCCASIONS. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE ON THE HIGHWAY. LUCKY FOR ME THERE WERE NO VEHICLES BEHIND OR TO THE RIGHT OF ME SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A DEAD STOP ON THE SAFE SIDE OF THE ROAD SHOULDER (RIGHT). THE CAR NORMALLY WOULD START AGAIN AFTER THIS SYSTEM FAILURE. THIS TIME IT DID NOT AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST GARAGE WHICH WAS A FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR LIGHT TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICE A NUMBER OF TIMES AT GM DEALERSHIPS FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON. THE ISSUE IS STILL UNRESOLVED. I NO LONGER HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE VEHICLE AS TO ITS DRIVABILITY AND SAFETY.
AUTOMATIC GEAR SHIFT BROKE, 2005 CORVETTE WITH 26,000 MILES ON IT I'VE TOLD IT'S A $700 DOLLAR REPAIR AT MY GM DEALERSHIP. I'VE READ ITS AN UNANNOUNCED DEFECTIVE PART. PLEASE ADVISE.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WILL LOCK IN PARK, CANNOT SHIFT FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. REFERRED TO OPERATORS MANUAL BUT NO RESOLVE. CONDITION BEGAN WITH LESS THAN 6,500 MILES ON THE CAR. WILL SHIFT OUT OF PARK SOMETIMES; AND IS UNPREDICTABLE; WILL OCCUR ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITHOUT REGARD AS TO WHERE THE DRIVER MAY BE LOCATED. EXTENSIVE RESEARCH HAS PROVEN THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID THAT WAS CORRECTED BY GM FOR THE 2006 MODELS. URGENT TO RECALL FOR ALL 2005 MODELS WITH THIS SHIFTER DESIGN.
I GOT IN MY VEHICLE, TRIED STARTING IT AND RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON MY DASH SCREEN THAT SAID, SERVICE COLUMN LOCK, THOUGHT I HAD A LOW BATTERY, I REMOVED THE BATTERY HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT MY BATTERY WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. AFTER DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS THAT PROBLEM, THERE IS A LARGE COMMUNITY OF CORVETTE OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, WE ALL ASK THE SAME QUESTION, WHY DOES GM NOT WANT TO DO A RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM?

I TRY SEVERAL SOLUTIONS AND USUALLY NOTHING HAPPENS BUT FINALLY, AFTER MINUTES AND MUCH PATIENTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 28,500 MILES AND ONLY 500 MILES SINCE THE LAST REPAIR. I'VE HAD THIS IN TO THE DEALER TWICE IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I'M UP TO $1500 IN REPAIR COSTS WITH NO RESOLUTION ON A WIDESPREAD ISSUE.

JUST AS LEAVING DEALERSHIP FOR LOW BEAM RECALL, 2 MILES, USED CRUISE TO 35 MPH, 10 CLICKS OF BUTTON TO 45, THEN AGAIN TO 55. WHEN CAR REACHED 55, I FELT THE CAR NOSE FORWARD LIKE I CUT CRUISE W/ TAP OF BRAKE. I DID NOT. WARNING LIGHT/ CRUISE DISENGAGED, STILL LOOKING AT DIC CAR NOSED DOWN AND SQUATTED WITH WARNING LIGHT REDUCED POWER, THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO SLOW TO 35 AND FEEL AS THOUGH I WAS PUMPING THE GAS AND BRAKE ALTERNATELY LIKE WHEN WE WERE KIDS AND USED TO WATCH THE WIFE'S HEAD GO BACK AND FORTH. BEFORE GETTING OFF ROAD MORE LIGHTS AND WARNINGS. ITS HARD TO SAY WHICH CAME FIRST, IT ALL WAS HAPPENING FAST AND AS A SURPRISE. I KNOW SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING, TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS MESSAGES CAME ON. DON'T THINK THEY TOOK PRIORITY OVER THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER THOUGH. I REMEMBER SEEING IT, ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE DEALER. SLOWED AND PULLED INTO HUGE LOT. NOW IT WAS MY HEAD DOING THE BACK AND FORTH DANCE WITH THE CAR @ IDLE, IT SOUNDED LIKE THE MAIN BEARINGS WEREN'T GETTING ANY OIL AND WANTED OUT OF THAT ENGINE AT ANY COST. SO UPSET WITH THE BEARING NOISE, I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD (PICKING UP RPMS) HEADED BACK TO DEALER IN A LIMP MODE (35 MPH) EVEN WHEN THE POSTED SPEED WENT DOWN TO 25 MPH, THE CAR DID NOT LOWER RPS AS I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKES. THERE IS MORE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BUT THAT WILL REMAIN BETWEEN THE SERVICE MANAGER, GM, AND MYSELF TO RESOLUTION. STAYED AT DEALERSHIP APPROX. 10 MINUTES. CAR STARTED FINE AND I LEFT.I ALWAYS DRIVE THE SAME, AND WHEN THE CAR REACHED 55 MPH AT THE EXACT SAME PLACE, IT ALL HAPPENED AGAIN THE EXACT SAME WAY! HAD TO BRING THE CAR HOME IN LIMP MODE, ABOUT 10 MILES FROM HOME. AGAIN @ 35 MPH. WHILE COMING HOME FROM WORK THIS EVENING (COMPLETELY DARK / 6:30PM) MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BOTH SHUT OFF. I WAS ON A FOUR LANE ROAD COMING UP TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT THAT WAS GREEN FOR ME. I NOTICED JUST BEFORE GETTING TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHT MY HEADLIGHTS HAD SHUT OFF. I SLOWED SOME THINKING I HAD ACCIDENTALLY HIT A SWITCH OR SOMETHING AND THANK GOODNESS I SLOWED SOME. AS I APPROACHED THE LIGHT A CAR TURNED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES AND REALLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HIT THE OTHER CAR. THEY OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T SEE ME SINCE I HAD NO HEADLIGHTS. WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE WHERE THE HEAD LIGHT FUSE WAS LOCATED ON MY CAR THINKING THAT'S ALL IT WAS. I FOUND OUT THROUGH ONLINE ARTICLES THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR MY MODEL CORVETTE WITH OVER 100K MILES. I LET THE CAR COOL DOWN PER WHAT WAS SAID IN SOME OF THE FORUMS AND JUST WENT OUT TO CRANK MY CAR AND THE HEADLIGHTS CAME ON. THIS IS A VERY VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND GIVEN GM'S RELUCTANCE TO RECALL KNOWN DANGEROUS ISSUES WITH SOME OF THEIR VEHICLES I HOPE YOUR AGENCY WILL FORCE A RECALL ON THIS.
