TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 10V172000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,500.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS QUIT INTERMITTENTLY. *TR..UPDATED 09-29-15 *BF
WHILE DRIVING HOME TONIGHT (A 20 MINUTE DRIVE)THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF BY THEMSELVES. WE TRIED TURNING OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTING AND ALSO CHECKED THE FUSE, NEITHER FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THE PROBLEM HOPEFULLY THIS COMPLAINT WILL HELP IN GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED. *TR
ABOUT EVERY DAY WHILE DRIVING MY CORVETTE. THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT WILL COME. AND MY BRAKES WILL START JERKING. ALSO THE AIR BAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND GOING OFF THE WHOLE TIME I DRIVE IT. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THERE 05 CORVETTES. SOMETHING NEEDS DONE ABOUT THIS. THIS IS A LETTER SENT TO ME ABOUT THE CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT AND THAT THEY KNOW ABOUT IT AND HAVE NO PLANS ON DOING ANY THING ABOUT IT. I HOPE THINGS HAVE CHANGED. PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. I HAVE NUMEROUS EMAILS FROM GM ON THE SUBJECT. [XXX] I AM SORRY THAT IT HAS TAKEN ME SOMETIME TO GET BACK TO YOU ABOUT YOUR AIR BAG LIGHT, I HAD TO SPEAK WITH INTERNAL RESOURCES. THE AIR BAG LIGHT CONCERN IS CAUSED BY THE SEAT BELT CONNECTOR UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT COMING LOOSE. THERE WAS A CHANGE MADE IN 2008 THAT MOVED THE CONNECTOR THAT HELPS SOME BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY REMEDY IT. IT CAN ALSO BE SEEN IN FEWER NUMBERS IN 2008 ? 2010. IT WAS DRIVEN BY THE CONNECTOR BEING PLACED DIRECTLY UNDER THE SEAT CUSHION. WHEN A CUSTOMER USES EASY EXIT OR MEMORY SO THE SEAT MOVES AT EACH DOOR OPENING IT WILL WORK THE CONNECTOR LOOSE OVER TIME. THE FIX WAS TO ATTACH IT TO THE SEAT FRAME SO IT DID NOT GET DRUG ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE CARPET. IN 2008 THEY MADE THE WIRE A LITTLE LONGER TO MOVE THE CONNECTOR OUT OF THE WAY. I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY DISCUSSION FOR A RECALL OR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ACTION BECAUSE IT WAS SELF-DECLARING. I AM SORRY THIS IS NOT THE RESOLUTION THAT YOU WISHED FOR ON THIS MATTER. THE LOW-BEAM LIGHTS KEEP CUTTING-OFF WHEN THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE REACHES NORMAL TEMPERATURE. AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE COOLS-OFF AND THEN THE LIGHTS WILL COME BACK ON, ONLY TO AGAIN CUT-OFF WHEN THE ENGINE IS TURNED BACK ON AGAIN... *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT NIGHT, MY HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY TURNED OFF. I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTING THE CAR HOPING IT WAS JUST A MINOR ELECTRICAL SHORT ETC. HOWEVER, THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT RESPOND. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE 20 MILES IN THE DARK WITH MY FOG LAMPS AND AT TIMES, MY HIGH BEAMS. I AM AWARE OF AN EXISTING INVESTIGATION RELATING TO THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD. CLEARLY HAVING YOUR HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHEN YOU NEED THEM POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD TO MYSELF, ANY PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AN LETTING IT RUN FOR A FEW MINS THE LIGHTS JUST WENT OUT FOR NO REASON DO NOT KNOW WHY OR HOW. *TR
MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CONTINUES TO STAY ON WHILE DRIVING. *TR
BEGINNING IN FEB, 2014, MY '05 CORVETTE BEGAN EXHIBITING LOSS OF LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DUE TO A PROBLEM IDENTIFIED BY GM. MAY OF 2014, A GM RECALL # 13146 WAS ASSIGNED TO THE PROBLEM WITH A COMMITMENT FROM GM THAT THE UNDERHOOD BUSSING ELECTRIC CENTER (UBEC) WOULD BE MODIFIED FOR VEHICLE OWNERS AT NO COST (SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V251000). I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET A FEW TIMES SINCE THEN, THE LAST CONTACT BEING YESTERDAY (10/29/14). I WAS ISSUED A CASE NUMBER BY CHEVROLET/GM (NOT INCLUDED IN THIS DESCRIPTION AS IT COULD LEAD TO PERSONAL INFORMATION). DESPITE BEING AWARE OF THE NEED TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, I WAS INFORMED 10/29/14 THAT CHEVROLET/GM STILL HAS NOT PROVIDED THE RE-WORKED UBEC FOR REPLACEMENT. LACK OF LOW-BEAMS IS A REAL PROBLEM AS I AM UNABLE TO KNOWINGLY DRIVE AT NIGHT DUE TO LACK OF SUFFICIENT ILLUMINATION WHEN USING ONLY THE FOG LIGHTS, OR OVER-ILLUMINATION USING JUST THE HIGH BEAMS (THIS CAUSES OTHER VEHICLES TO "FLASH" ME TO LET ME KNOW MY BRIGHTS ARE ON). OCCASIONALLY, I WILL BE CAUGHT AFTER SUNDOWN AND FORCED TO DRIVE WITH EITHER ONLY FOG LIGHTS OR HIGH BEAMS. I AM FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED BY GM'S LACK OF MOVEMENT ON CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM, WHICH IS WHY I AM CONTACTING THE NHTSA. *TR
I WAS LEAVING A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE FRONT BRAKES APPLIED OWN THEIR OWN CAUSING THE CAR TO COMPLETELY STOP. I ALSO HEARD SOME GRINDING WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE THE BRAKES. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP, AFTER TWO DAYS THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *TR
OUR CAR IS A GARAGE QUEEN AND USED VERY INFREQUENTLY, ITS ON A BATTERY CHARGER AND FLUID CHANGES DONE ANNUALLY. WE NOTICED THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK AND INTO ANY GEAR. (IE. STUCK IN PARK). IT FINALLY RELEASED AND MOVES FREELY INTO ANY GEAR HOWEVER WHEN PLACED BACK INTO PARK THERE IS NO LOCKING TO AVOID CONSOLE MOUNTED GEAR SHIFTER FROM BEING BUMPED INTO GEAR. BY LAW THERE IS SUPPOSE TO BE A BRAKE/GEAR/LOCK IN ALL CARS TO AVOID THIS. UNFORTUNATELY THE BRAKE PEDAL NEITHERS STOPS OR HELPS THE GEAR SELECTOR FROM MOVING FREELY. MULTIPLE ONLINE COMPLAINTS SUGGEST ENTIRE SHIFTER NEEDS REPLACEMENT DUE TO SOLENOID ISSUE. REPAIR IS OVER 1000.00 FOR SMALL PART AND EFFECTS ENTIRE MODEL YEAR WITH NO RECALL ISSUED TO DATE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 CORVETTE HOME AT NIGHT AND MY LOW BEAM LIGHTS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO, BUT USE MY BRIGHT LIGHTS, WHICH WAS AN OBVIOUS HAZARD TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED THE CAR...MY LOW-BEAMS CAME ON AND SEEMED TO WORK. I THEN DROVE MY CAR AND AFTER ONLY A FEW MINUTES THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AGAIN. THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY OCCURRING. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM, I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL TO DATE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING WITH MANY OTHER 2005 CORVETTE OWNERS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN THE POURING RAIN WITH MY DAUGHTER FOLLOWING ME IN ANOTHER CAR THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. WE WERE ON PA MOUNTAIN ROADS AND I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. THIS WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE WERE 4 HRS FROM HOME, I THOUGHT THE WIPERS WERE BAD AND MY VISION HAD FAILED AND THE STATE JUST DIDN'T PAINT THE LINES ON THE RD. THE SITUATION WAS SO BAD I HAD TO WAIT TILL WE FOUND THE NEXT EXIT RAMP TO PULL OVER. I LEFT THE CAR RUNNING AND NOTICED MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF WHILE I WAS PAYING FOR MY FOOD AND GAS. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH MY HIGHBEAMS ON!!! WHEN WE FINALLY GOT HOME I WAS SO SHAKEN BY THE SITUATION I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE TO FIND OUT THIS WAS NOT AND ISOLATED INCIDENT!!! RECALL THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED!!! *TR
LOW BEAM LIGHTS JUST QUIT WORKING. FUSE/RELAY IS GOOD AND IS A INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. SEEMS TO BE A HEAT RELATED ISSUE VERY UNSAFE AT NIGHT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FWY MY LIGHTS WENT OFF CHECKED THE FOLLOWING EVENING AND THEY WORKED. WHILE DRIVING AGAIN THEY SUDDENLY WENT OFF AGAIN. *TR
BOTH OF THE HEADLIGHT TURNED OFF. I WAS GOING AROUND A CORNER AND ENDED UP IN A FIELD. LUCKILY I WAS NOT INJURED AND THE CAR MADE IT WITH ONLY A FEW SCRATCHES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM DINNER, MY LOW BEAM LIGHTS TURNED OFF WITH NO WARNING. AFTER PULLING OVER AND TRYING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. I ENDED UP DRIVING HOME WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ON. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY AND HAS PUT ME AND OTHERS AT RISK. COULD PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FREQUENTLY STICKS IN THE PARK POSITION. TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON WILL EVENTUALLY CLEAR THE SITUATION BUT MAY HAVE TO BE DONE SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE SHIFTER TO COME OUT OF PARK. THESE MALFUNCTIONS ARE WELL DOCUMENTED IN ON-LINE FORUMS RELATING TO CORVETTES. IN MANY CASES, A COSTLY REPAIR IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX AS THE NEW COMPONENTS (SHIFTER ASSEMBLY) EVENTUALLY FAIL AS WELL. COME ON GM STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THESE ISSUES AS THEY HAVE THE POTENTIAL OF PUTTING THE SAFETY OF OPERATORS AT RISK. *TR
SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH AND BRAKES LIGHTS WERE STUCK ON AND AFTER A WHILE THEY STOPPED TURNING ON, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED A TRUCK TO CRASH INTO MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKING SYSTEM STILL WORKED HOWEVER THE LIGHTS ARE ERRATIC, WHICH ALSO CAUSED THE CAR TO BE STUCK IN PARK EVERY TIME I TURN IT ON NOW. *TR
I HAVE COMPLAINED TO GM AND NHTSA MANY TIMES ABOUT THIS WITH NO HELP FROM EITHER. THE AIR BAG SYSTEM ON THE C6 (2005 - 2012) CORVETTE IS DEFECTIVE. THE CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT GOES OFF AND ON AT RANDOM. WE KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING IT BUT GM WILL NOT FIX IT. I JUST RECEIVED THE LETTER BELOW FROM GM EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM AND WHAT IS CAUSING IT. THEY ADMIT THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT HAVE NO PLANS ON CORRECTING IT. THOUSANDS OF CORVETTE FORUM MEMBERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS. WE HAVE COME UP WITH OUR OWN TEMPORARY FIX UNTIL GM REDESIGNS THE DEFECTIVE (BAD DESIGN) CONNECTOR UNDER THE SEAT. WE ZIP TIE IT TOGETHER. MANY MEMBERS DRIVE WITH THE LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME. GM WILL NOT TELL US IF THE BAG WILL DEPLOY WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON. I'M SURE IT WONT. ARE WE GOING TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO BE KILLED TO FIX IT? I HOPE NOT. MY 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE STARTED MAKING POPPING AND CRACKING NOISES AT ANY AND ALL RATES OF SPEED SOME TIME AGO. AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, THE WIND NOISE AND WHISTLING SOUNDS ARE ALMOST UNBEARABLE AS THE NOISES ARE SO LOUD. I CONSULTED WITH YOUMAN'S CHEVROLET IN MACON, GA AS THEY ARE THE ONLY CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN OUR ARE AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE TOP HAD STATED TO SEPARATE FROM THE LOWER PART AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A ENTIRE NEW TOP. ONCE AGAIN, THEY DID NOT EVEN CONSIDER CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. NATURALLY, OUR GREATEST CONCERN IS THE POTENTIAL OF THE UPPER PORTION FLYING OFF WHILE WE ARE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CAUSING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT TO OTHER VEHICLES OR INJURIES. I RECENTLY STARTING TAKING THE CORVETTE MAGAZINE AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, I READ THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TOP. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP DID NOT BOTHER TO CHECK ON THIS RECALL OR TO ADVISE US OF THE RECALL IF THEY WERE AWARE OF IT AS WE ARE REGULAR CUSTOMERS AND HAVE SPENT A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WITH THEM ON THIS CORVETTE OVER THE LAST SEVEN YEARS. *TR
IN DECEMBER 2013 THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY LURCHED INTO A DIFFERENT GEAR AS I WAS DRIVING AND WOULD NOT PROPERLY UPSHIFT THROUGH THE GEARS. ALSO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I LIMPED IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLEARED THE CODE SOMEHOW AND GAVE THE CAR BACK TO ME. I ONLY PUT ABOUT 85 MILES ON THE CAR IN 7 MONTHS WHEN IT DID IT AGAIN IN JUNE 2014.I NURSED IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A BAD TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE(AFTER TELLING ME THE BATTERY AND IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS NOT CORRECT). THE BILL WAS $1328. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND DROVE IT HOME WHERE THE SAME THING HAPPENED AS I NEARED MY HOUSE AND THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN LURCHED INTO A DIFFERENT GEAR AND WOULDN'T SHIFT THROUGH THE GEARS PROPERLY. AGAIN I NURSED IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED THE FIRST MODULE THEY PUT IN WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS DIDN'T SOUND TO ME RIGHT BUT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING I COULD DO AT THIS POINT. I PUT APPROXIMATELY 850 MILES ON THE CAR IN 11 MONTHS AND HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT TIMES WHEN THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT COME OUT OF PARK WITHOUT NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. I BROUGHT IT IN MAY 2015 FOR THE HEADLIGHT RECALL AND TOLD THEM OF THE DIFFICULTY GETTING IT OUT OF PARK. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I PUT LESS THAN 200 MILES ON THE CAR IN 4 MONTHS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION GOT STUCK IN PARK,IN MY GARAGE AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER CABLE BROKE AS I ATTEMPTED TO GET IT INTO GEAR. THIS WAS SEPTEMBER 2015. THE CAR HAD TO BE JACKED UP AND PUT INTO NEUTRAL UNDERNEATH AND PUSHED OUT OF MY GARAGE SO IT COULD BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THIS TRIP COST ME $873 FOR A NEW SHIFTER AND SHIFTER CABLE REPLACEMENT. I HAVE NOW READ WHERE THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THE 2005 CORVETTE AND I FEEL A RECALL SHOULD BE INSTITUTED TO REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS AT THE MANUFACTURERS EXPENSE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. LOW BEAM LIGHTS WENT OUT WILE I WAS DRIVING AND WOULD NOT COME BACK ON IN MY 2005 CORVETTE ALTHOUGH THE DASH INDICATOR SAID THAT THE LIGHTS WERE ON. I WAS VERY LUCKY I JUST AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT . I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HWY AND INTO A SAFE AREA .I COULD NOT GET THE LOW BEAMS TO COME ON ,I COULD ONLY GET THE HIGH BEAMS TO WORK . I LOOKED ON LINE ONLY TO FIND OUT MANY OTHER CORVETTE OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM . THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WILL LEAD TO A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. THE CHEVROLET DEALER WAS NO HELP SAYING THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM .I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND OVER 100 OTHER CORVETTE OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR

IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY. I FIXED IT AGAIN WITH ZIP TIES. I HOPE IT WORKS IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL C6 2005 THRU 2013 CORVETTES. SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING CAME ON AS I TOUCHED THE BRAKES. CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT. TRYING TO STAY OUT OF THE RIGHT LANE I APPLIED THE BRAKES HARDER THE CAR JERKED TO THE RIGHT. SEEMS THE HARDER BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE HARDER TO THE RIGHT IT PULLED.
WHILE DRIVING AT AN ESTIMATED SPEED OF 35 MPH AT APPROXIMATELY 9:00PM, MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THEM ON MANUALLY. I HAD TO TURN ON MY FOG LIGHTS IN ORDER TO SEE THE ROAD A HEAD OF ME. THE LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT COME ON WEATHER NOT I SET THEM FOR AUTOMATIC OR MANUALLY. I TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TRYING TO GET THE LIGHTS TO COME ON AND HAD I NOT IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON MY FOG LIGHTS, I WOULD HAVE PROBABLY MISSED A TURN IN THE ROAD AND COULD HAVE SWERVED INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. THE NEXT MORNING I PLANNED ON TAKING THE CAR TO PEP BOYS FOR THEM TO CHECK MY FUSES, BUT WHEN I TURNED ON THE CAR, MY LOW BEAMS AUTOMATICALLY CAME ON. I THEN RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE NHTSA ON AT LEAST 95 OCCASIONS AND THAT THE NHTSA HAS BEEN WORKING WITH CHEVROLET TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL! I SUGGEST THAT A RECALL BE INITIATED IMMEDIATELY AND NOT WAIT FOR ANY MAJOR ACCIDENT OR DEATHS TO HAPPEN BEFORE ISSUING A RECALL FOR THE FUSE BOX THAT IS TO NEAR THE ENGINE WHICH OVERHEATS THE LOW BEAMS WIRES. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE NHTSA SINCE AT LEAST MAY AND A FULL INVESTIGATION IN AUGUST 2013. I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE NHTSA HAS NOT INSISTED THAT CHEVROLET ISSUE A FULL RECALL ON FIXING THE FUSE BOX THAT IS OVERHEATING AND CAUSING THE LOW BEAMS ON THE 2005 - 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTES. MY NEXT STEP WILL TO INCLUDE THE MEDIA ON THE LACK OF A RECALL WHEN THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY VIOLATION THAT NEED TO BE QUICKLY RESOLVED. *TR
I STARTED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS TURNING ON IN MY 2005 C6 CORVETTE. THE SWITCH WAS TURNED TO AUTOMATIC AND WOULD NOT TURN ON. WHEN THE SWITCH WAS TURNED TO MANUAL MODE THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS WOULD STILL NOT TURN ON. THE HIGH BEAMS AND FOG LAMPS WORK WITH REGULAR SUCCESS. WHEN THE CAR SITS FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME AND THE CAR IS COOL THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AND STAY ON FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, BUT AS SOON AS THE CAR IS BROUGHT UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS FAIL TO WORK. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR 2005-2007 C6 CORVETTES AND THE NHTSA ALONG WITH CHEVROLET SHOULD FILE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST. IT'S A EASY FIX WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE FUSE BOX IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR
ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE LAST TWO WEEKS THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO START AFTER BEING TURNED OFF FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME (WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, ETC.). ON 2 OF THOSE 4 OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS REQUIRED TOWING TO A DEALERSHIP'S REPAIR FACILITY. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD TURN OVER BUT FAILED TO START. IT THEN MYSTERIOUSLY STARTED AGAIN AFTER SITTING AT THE GAS PUMPS OF THE GAS STATION FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES WHILE WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START BUT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER PULLING AND REINSERTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY LOCATED IN THE UNDER HOOD UBEC. ON THE THIRD OCCASION, PULLING AND REINSERTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY HAD NO AFFECT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE VEHICLE REQUIRED TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP NOTED LOOSE CONNECTIONS ON THE UBEC AND ALSO REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. ONE DAY LATER, THE VEHICLE AGAIN FAILED TO START AND REQUIRED TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY. UPON WRITING-UP THE SERVICE TICKET, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CIRCUITS WITHIN THE UBEC ON THIS VINTAGE CORVETTE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMATIC AND THAT THE UBEC WOULD MOST LIKELY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. ON VISUAL INSPECTION, THE UBEC APPEARS TO BE LOCATED VERY CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ON THE VEHICLE WHICH WOULD MAKE IT VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO INTERMITTENT FAILURES OF VARIOUS UBEC COMPONENTS CAUSED BY HEAT (HEADLIGHTS, FUEL PUMP, ETC.). GM SHOULD ISSUE A VOLUNTARY RECALL TO INCLUDE A HEAT SHIELD OR SOME IMPROVEMENT IN COMPONENT DESIGN OF THE UBEC ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR

WE DON'T KNOW IF THE AIR BAG WILL DEPLOY IF THE LIGHT IS ON. MOST OF MY BUDDIES USE THE SAME ZIP TIE TRICK. I HOPE YOUR WILL GIVE THIS ISSUE SERIOUS CONSIDERATION BEFORE YOU IGNORE IT AGAIN. AFTER THE ENGINE HEATS UP (APPROX. 15 MINUTES) THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS GO OUT. HIGH BEAMS WILL STILL WORK AS WELL AS FOG LIGHTS. ONCE THE CAR SITS FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND COOLS DOWN, THE LOW BEAMS WILL WORK AGAIN. *TR

I BOUGHT A NEW 2005 CORVETTE 4/5/2005. SINCE NEW THE CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT GOES OFF AND ON. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT MOST OF THE 215,000 C6 OWNERS EXPERIENCE. I AM A MEMBER OF THE CORVETTE FORUM AND IT IS DISCUSSED OFTEN. MANY DEALERS ACROSS THE US CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. IN MY CASE IT STARTED SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE C6. EVERY TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME TO RETURN WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ON. THAT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE IT GOES OFF AND ON. SOMETIMES A WEEK OR MORE GOES BY AND IT'S OKAY. FINALLY WHEN MY WARRANTY WAS UP BUT I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY I GOT IN WITH THE LIGHT ON AND THEY GOT A CODE. IT WAS THE DRIVERS SEAT SEATBELT PRE-TENSIONER. THAT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM AND GM SHUT DOWN DEALERS ACROSS THE US AND MINE WAS ONE OF THEM. THE MEMBERS ON THE CORVETTE FORUM DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS DEFECTIVE (BAD DESIGN) WIRE CONNECTORS UNDER THE SEAT. EVERY TIME THE MEMORY SEAT MOVES IN AND OUT IT LOOSENS CONNECTOR. I CAME UP WITH THE PLAN TO ZIP TIE THE CONNECTOR TOGETHER. NOW OWNER'S ACROSS THE US USE THIS METHOD. IT WORKS TEMPORARILY. SOMETIMES FOR A YEAR OR MORE BUT NOW THAT MY AND OTHERS CORVETTES HAVE A FEW MILES ON THEM THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. I HAVE TO REPLACE AND ENLARGE THE ZIP TIES MORE OFTEN. I DID IT A FEW WEEKS AGO AND TODAY THE CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. GM CAN'T OR WON'T ANSWER THE QUESTION "WILL THE AIR BAG WORK WHEN THE CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON". I'M SURE THEY CAN'T ANSWER THAT. I HAVE FILED THIS COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO HELP. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET SOME HELP WITH THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. WILL GM CLAIM THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM? THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT LEVER LOCKS IN THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SHIFTED FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. THE OWNERS MANUAL LISTS A PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW IN THE EVENT OF THIS HAPPENING. IT MAY OR MAY NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM ON EVERY OCCASION. THERE ARE REPORTS OF TOTAL FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE NEEDING A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION IS A COMPLETE SHIFTER REPLACEMENT DUE TO A FAULTY SOLENOID NOT AVAILABLE AS SEPARATE PART IN THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. THERE IS A GM SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THE ULTIMATE COST TO THE OWNER IS IN THE $800.00 TO $1200.00 RANGE WITH MANY OWNERS REPORTING ISSUES FOR THE 2005-06 MODEL YEARS. A DESIGN CHANGE WAS INSTITUTED AFTER THE 2006 BUILD YEAR. THERE HAS BEEN NO PARTICIPATION FROM GM FOR THE FAILURES.
THE AIRBAG SAFETY LIGHT CONTINUES TO GO OFF BETWEEN 2000 AND 2500 RPMS. GM KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL. THE FIX IS TO REGROUND A WIRE UNDER THE SEAT, BUT NO DIAGRAM HAS BEEN PROVIDED BY GM DETAILING HOW TO DO THIS. *TR
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC AT NIGHT, MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF AND MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO USE MY HI BEAMS. PEOPLE WERE FLASHING THEIR BRIGHT LIGHTS AND I WAS BLINDING OTHER DRIVERS. THE NEXT DAY THE HEADLIGHTS CAME ON, THEN SWITCHED OFF 5 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING. FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS THEY HAVE RARELY EVEN CAME ON, AND WHEN THEY DO, THEY WILL TURN OFF QUICKLY. I DRIVE MY CORVETTE EVERY DAY, AND THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. A POLICE OFFICER STOPPED ME AND GAVE ME A VERBAL WARNING LAST NIGHT WHEN MY LIGHTS SWITCHED OFF AND I HAD TO TURN MY BRIGHT LIGHTS ON RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE METAL BRAKE LINES WERE RUBBING ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE REAR BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE CLIP DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 04V525000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29, 497. UPDATED 10/29/13*CN ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE INVOICE, THE BRAKE LINE HAD A PIN HOLE IN IT AND WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. UPDATED 11/06/13
UNABLE TO SHIP AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FROM PARK TO DRIVE AFTER STARTING VEHICLE. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES I MUST USE OVER RIDE SYSTEM TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, START THE VEHICLE, THEN SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THIS ALLOWS THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BEFORE EVEN STARTING IT. SOMEONE COULD GET HIT AND INJURED. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER ON LEVEL SURFACE OR INCLINED SURFACE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SAFETY SYSTEM.
