Vehicle has open recall 09v491 for roof panel separation. The roof on the vehicle has separated and come apart in pieces leaving the front seal exposed. Gengras Chevrolet in Ct has ordered and received the replacement panel which has now been sitting at their dealership for approximately 2.5 weeks because they refuse to send it to paint until they rectify the outdated paint supply reimbursement cost with GM. In the meantime I have not had a spot for the vehicle inside and if I dont know its going to rain or dont get the car inside somewhere in time the water leaks down the windshield post and into the body control module. Currently the car drains the battery, gauges intermittently do not work as well as the power windows, starter button etc. from a recent pop up storm. Ive been back and forth with the dealer and spoke to a GM rep, niehter of which have proven useful in the situation. I just keep getting pushed off and told that I have to wait for them to figure it out with GM, even though it could potentially take 2 or more weeks to paint the top once the body shop actually gets it. This whole process has started approximately August 1st.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V491000 (STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THE ROOF WAS LATCHED CORRECTLY AND HE DECIDED TO REMOVE THE TOP. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME FOR THE TOP WAS SEPARATING FROM THE BODY PANEL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

MY 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE STARTED MAKING POPPING AND CRACKING NOISES AT ANY AND ALL RATES OF SPEED SOME TIME AGO. AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, THE WIND NOISE AND WHISTLING SOUNDS ARE ALMOST UNBEARABLE AS THE NOISES ARE SO LOUD. I CONSULTED WITH YOUMAN'S CHEVROLET IN MACON, GA AS THEY ARE THE ONLY CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN OUR ARE AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE TOP HAD STATED TO SEPARATE FROM THE LOWER PART AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A ENTIRE NEW TOP. ONCE AGAIN, THEY DID NOT EVEN CONSIDER CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. NATURALLY, OUR GREATEST CONCERN IS THE POTENTIAL OF THE UPPER PORTION FLYING OFF WHILE WE ARE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CAUSING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT TO OTHER VEHICLES OR INJURIES. I RECENTLY STARTING TAKING THE CORVETTE MAGAZINE AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, I READ THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TOP. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP DID NOT BOTHER TO CHECK ON THIS RECALL OR TO ADVISE US OF THE RECALL IF THEY WERE AWARE OF IT AS WE ARE REGULAR CUSTOMERS AND HAVE SPENT A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WITH THEM ON THIS CORVETTE OVER THE LAST SEVEN YEARS. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE DOORS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED DURING THE MORNING. THE CONTACT ALLOWED THE DEALER TO HOLD THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,966.
ROOF LAMINATE WAS REPLACED AS PART OF A MANUFACTURER RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO. BUT CRACKING NOISE CONTINUED UNTIL TODAY AFTER A LOUD KNOCK, THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE ROOF STARTED LEAKING AIR BADLY. PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THE ROOF BODY AND NOT JUST THE LAMINATE HAD SEPARATED FROM ITS FRAME. OPENED ROOF LATCHES AND WHILE REMOVING THE DETACHABLE ROOF, BOTH REAR METAL PINS THAT MECHANICALLY HOLD THE ROOF TO THE FRAME FELL TO THE GROUND. THREADED SECTION OF BOTH PINS HAD SHEARED OFF AND ROOF WAS ONLY HELD IN PLACE BY THE REAR CENTER HOOK. APPARENTLY MATERIAL AND PIN DESIGN IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE TORQUE THAT THE ROOF GOES THROUGH AGAINST THE FRAME DURING NORMAL DRIVING RESULTING IN COMPLETE SEPARATION OF THE ROOF. *TR
HEADS UP DISPLAY KEEPS FALLING FROM ITS SET POSITION. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN MANY REAR END COLLISION TRYING TO RESET MY HEADS UP DISPLAY. NOW I DON'T EVEN USE THE HEADS UP DISPLAY SINCE IT IS SUCH A PIECE OF JUNK. I BELONG TO CORVETTE FORUM AND HAVE HERD FROM DOZENS OF CORVETTE OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THESE HEADS UP DISPLAYS SHOULD BE RECALLED DUE TO POOR DESIGN, POOR MATERIALS DURING MANUFACTURING AND CHEAP MANUFACTURING. THE PROBLEM IS THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY IS BEING HINGED FROM TWO PLASTIC PINS ON EACH END OF THE ASSEMBLY. BASED OF THE SIZE AND WAIT OF THE MIRROR THESE PINS SHOULD BE MADE FROM SOME KIND OF METAL MATERIAL. THIS ISSUE IS BEING EXACERBATED BY THE STIFF RIDE OF THE CORVETTE AS YOU DRIVE THE MIRROR IS BEING BOUNCED AROUND AND IS WEARING DOWN THE PINS HOLDING THE MIRROR. *TR
WHEN ANY WATER GETS ON THE WINDOW BUTTONS THEY WASH OFF IN SECONDS. IT DOES CAUSE NIGHT BLINDNESS. WHATEVER THEY ARE PAINTED WILL NOT STAND UP TO WATER REPLACED 3 TIMES IN 2 YEARS..UNSATISFACTORY TO PAINT CHEAP WASH OFF PAINT ON CLEAR BUTTONS. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 CORVETTE. CHEVROLET HAS RECALLED 22,000 CORVETTES FOR THE ROOF PANEL. THEY SAID THAT THE ROOF WILL BREAK LOOSE AND COULD BLOW OFF. MY TOP HAS BROKE LOOSE BECAUSE AIR IS LEAKING THREW. A RECALL EXISTS FOR ALL 05-07 C6 OEM CORVETTE REMOVABLE TARGA TOPS. THE GLUE BOND HOLDING THE REMOVABLE TOP TO ITS FRAME BREAKS WITH TEMPERATURE CHANGES, AND THE TOPS BREAK AWAY AND FLY OFF THE CAR. OVER TIME, AIR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AIR EVENTUALLY BLOWS UNDER THE TOP AND PULLS IT OFF THE FRAME. AS PART OF THE RECALL REPAIR, GM INJECTED FOAM UNDER THE THIN PLASTIC TOP INTO THE ROOF FRAME TO PREVENT THE AIR FROM ENTERING AND RIPPING THE TOP OFF. THEY DID NOT ADDRESS THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THE GLUE NOT HOLDING THE TOP ON. THEY ONLY ADDRESSED A SYMPTOM OF THE REAL PROBLEM TO AVOID THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. MY TOP HAD MONTHS OF AIR LEAKING UNDER IT, A LOT OF NOISE OVER THAT PERIOD, AND THE FOAM INJECT RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED WITH A PREVIOUS OWNER. GM DENIED MY SAFETY RECALL CLAIM STATING THEY INJECTED THE FOAM, BUT IN REALITY THEY ONLY TREATED A SYMPTOM. GM USED A LEGAL RUN-AROUND TO AVOID HAVING TO REPLACE THE TOP, SAYING THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AND MET THE NHTSA RECALL. ALL THEY DID WAS INJECT SOME FOAM. THEY DID NOT CORRECT THE GLUE PROBLEM AND MEET THE BURDEN OF CORRECTION ACCORDING TO THE RECALL. I WAS ABLE TO GRAB ONTO THE TOP THROUGH MY DRIVERS WINDOW TO HOLD IT DOWN WHEN IT UNEXPECTEDLY STARTED TO RIP OFF, OR IT WOULD HAVE HIT TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, AND CAUSED WRECK(S).
