For last 3 years whenever I fill my vehicle with gas the garage smells of gas until the tank is less than half a tank... The other major issue is the vehicle will not come out of park multiple time. This has put me in embarrassing situations many times. I stay away from driving the vehicle so many times when I could be in physical danger .
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated the transmission had been seized in the park(P) position intermittently. The transmission would eventually release after manipulating the gear shifter several times. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,621.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in his garage with the engine off, the contact turned on the accessory switch which caused the engine to start. Once the engine started, the vehicle began to roll backward with the driver-side door open which caused the contact to be knocked over. The contact was dragged with the vehicle out of his garage as the driver's side door was caught by a part of the house garage door jamb which folded the door. The driver door detached the vehicle as the driver-side window burst and damaged the interior door panel. The contact was able to roll free from the vehicle once it left the garage; the vehicle rolled into his neighbor's landscaping which caused the vehicle to stop. The contact suffered cuts and scrapes to the right side of his back, buttocks, arm, ankle, as well as, his left and right legs. The contact did not seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact drove the vehicle back into the garage and later had it towed to an independent body shop. The contact called a dealer where they informed him that there were no recalls on his vehicle. The contact attempted to reach the manufacturer but was kept on indefinite hold. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 7,800.
After starting the vehicle I am unable to shift out of park. This endangers both myself and a passenger if I need to move the car quickly in case of fire or another vehicle or object coming toward me. It also endangers other passengers in vehicles I may be blocking because they are unable to move. There are many other C6 Corvettes with this same problem documented per the Corvette Forum and YouTube.
Vehicle will not shift out of park after starting, even when brake pedal is properly depressed.
CAR STICKS IN PARK AT TIMES AND IS HARD TO GET OUT OF PARK, HAPPENS OFTEN FOR PAST YEAR
WHILE DRIVING THE CLUTCH PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND MY STANDARD 2007 CORVETTE COULD NOT BE SHIFTED. CAR WAS FLAT-BEDDED TO DEALER AS CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN HEAVY FREEWAY TRAFFIC. MY VEHICLE HAD 8656 MILES APPROX. APPARENTLY GM ISSUED SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS PROBLEM, REDESIGNED THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER AND ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES THERE WAS NO RECALL. GM WAS TO HAVE NOTICED ALL OWNERS OF THIS PROBLEM BUT DID NOT IN MY CASE. WHEN I CALLED GM THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE SORRY BUT WOULD NOT INDEMNIFY ME FOR THE $2,912.18 COST TO REPLACE THE MASTER AND SLAVE CLUTCH CYLINDERS. IN MY CASE I WAS IN A PARKING LOT IN MOTION. SO LUCKILY I AM STILL BREATHING.
This particular Corvette C6 model (2005 through 2013 model years) has a well known and documented problem with the automatic transmissions. Upon engine startup, it oftentimes will not shift out of the Park gear. When the Chevrolet Customer Service people were called about this, their response was that they are well aware of this problem with the C6 model years. The Customer Service people said that a Recall was not issued because the way to address this problem is to: Shut off the engine, put the ignition in the Accessory mode, then try and shift the transmission into Neutral. If it is able to shift into Neutral, then start the engine. Once the engine starts, then try and shift the transmission into the Drive or Reverse gear. If this sequence doesn't work, we were told just to keep repeating this sequence over and over. There have been occasions when we had to repeat this sequence at least half a dozen times and there have also been occasions where we were stranded in parking lots and had to leave the car and come back to it later to try again. This is a safety concern due to the real possibility of being stranded at night in parking lots. There aren't any warning lights or messages. There also aren't any advanced warnings, in terms of symptoms. The only way the problem manifests itself, is when the car cannot be shifted out of the Park gear. Whenever the car is brought into service, including at Chevrolet dealers for such items as oil changes, the mechanics try shifting it out of the Park gear and when they can't, they will call and ask us what to do. The added concern here is that if the mechanic physically forces the shifter out of the Park gear, the entire shifter and possibly the transmission will be damaged. We are the original owners of the car and it only has 18,000 miles on it. This problem first appeared about two years ago but it is happening much more often now.
RETURNED FROM A DRIVE. BACKED CAR INTO PARKING SPOT AND TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO INTO PARK. AS A RESULT, CAN NOT RESTART CAR.
AUTOMATIC SHIFTER WILL LOCK IN PARK AND WILL LOCK AND NOT MOVE. CAR CAN BE RUNNING, IN PARK, AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER. RESTARTING OR USING ACCESSORY MODE WILL SOMETIMES UNLOCK. OFTEN YOU ARE JUST STUCK AND CAR MUST BE TOWED
AUTOMATIC SHIFTER STICKS IN PARK WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT IT
I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY STREET READY TO DOWNSHIFT MY CLUTCH AS I PREPARED TO ENTER MY DRIVEWAY. I LOST CONTROL OF MY CLUTCH AS THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT RETURN. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE SINCE I WAS NOT SURE IN THAT SPLIT MOMENT ON HOW TO SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE AS I WAS PREPARING TO ENTER MY DRIVEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO HIT MY BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE AND CAME TO A STOP INCHES FROM HITTING MY HOME. I ONLY WONDER IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT SOME HIGH RATE OF SPEED, WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE IF COULD NOT ENGAGE MY CLUTCH AND DRIVE MY VEHICLE. SINCE MY POWERTRAIN BECAME INOPERABLE, I FELT LIKE I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THE VEHICLE. GM IS VERY AWARE THAT THE CLUTCH COULD FAIL. THEY SENT ME A LETTER 4 YEARS AGO (COPY ATTACHED) TELLING ME THEY FOUND AN INTERNAL FAILURE IN THE MASTER CLUTCH CYLINDER. BUT GM WOULD NOT REPLACE THE CLUTCH. THAT IS DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE DRIVING AND NOT SURE WHEN YOUR YOU COULD LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AND UNHARMED TODAY DESPITE GM'S FAILURE TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE CLUTCH.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFTER LOCKED IN PARK.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A FEW MONTHS AFTER TSB N150682 WAS ISSUED. IT COULD BE DANGEROUS WITH THE LEAKY FUEL AND SMELL.
AFTER STARTING, WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, CAR STILL, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION)
TRANSMISSION IS LOCKED IN NEUTRAL OR DRIVE AND CANNOT SHUT OFF ENGINE OR PLACE CAR IN REVERSE OR PARK. HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. ONCE OFF, THE ENGINE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED AND HAD TO MANUALLY PUSH THE VEHICLE TO GET IT OFF THE STREET. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE--FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT ON A RAILROAD TRACKS WHEN THIS HAPPENED!
AFTER TAKING SHIFT HANDLE OUT OF PARK WILL NOT ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR
OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR. MY TRANSMISSION IN MY CORVETTE WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK. I PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND BACKED IT OUT AND THEN COULD NOT PUT IT UP INTO PARK. I THEN PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND MOVED FORWARD SOME AND TRIED TO PUT IT INTO PARK. THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT GO EVEN INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE HAS 56220 MILES ON IT. I STAYS IN A GARAGE CLIMATE CONTROLLED AND HAS SEEN BAD WEATHER MAYBE 6 TIME (SNOW OR RAIN). SO OFF THE CAR WENT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER TO GET REPAIRED. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM TO DO A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE HAS BEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH OUT ANY RESULTS. SO THERE IS A PLASTIC PIECE IN THE SHIFTIER MECHANISM THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED. SO AT $1068.00 LATER THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. DID GM KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM, THEY SURE DID. THE SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME HE HAS REPLACED 2 THE SAME WEEK AND MORE THROUGH THE YEAR. MY GUT FEELING IS THAT THIS IS A HAZARD TO NOT ONLY THE OWNER BUT TO OTHER DRIVERS OUT THERE. I EVEN FEEL THAT IT COULD BE LIFE THREATENING TO EVERYONE. THE PIECE GETS STUCK IN THE UNIT AND ONE COULD DRIVE STRAIGHT INTO A WALL OR RUN OVER SOMEONE IN THE VEHICLES PATH.
STATIONARY VEHICLE GETS STUCK IN PARK. NEVER CERTAIN THAT THE VEHICLE CAN BE PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. BEHAVIOR IS RANDOM-IT CAN TAKE SEVERAL TRIES OVER MINUTES TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. DEALER REPLACED BRAKE SWITCH-DIDN'T IMPROVE BEHAVIOR. SOMETIMES I USE THE RECOMMENDED "ACCESSORY MODE" TO SHIFT-THIS TAKES SEVERAL TRIES AS WELL & HAS FAILED AT TIMES TO GET VEHICLE INTO GEAR. BEHAVIOR STARTED IN 2016.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALER FIVE OTHER TIMES FOR THE SAME WARNING INDICATOR. VARIOUS COMPONENTS WERE REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AWAITING AN APPOINTMENT DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. ..UPDATED 07/31/17 *BF
