Fuel tank leaking Gas smell
Strong smell of fuel after parking the car in the garage. Inspection by the dealership confirmed the fuel pump assembly is leaking. The car was left for replacement of the fuel pump assembly due to the strong possibility of fire. This is a known issue with the C6 model of Corvette and was addressed by a gm TSB in 2011 rather than more appropriately by a recall. Of more concern to me is the fact that my car was produced in 2013 with a known defective part affecting safety. The cost of the repair is over $5000.
My Corvette c6 model has had a longterm issue with the left fuel pump, which I was not made aware of by the local dealership servicing my vehicle or the manufacturer, General Motors. I recently discovered the fuel pump issue, which results in a significant fuel leak thru the bottom left side of the vehicle. GM and the dealership failed to notify me of this issue even though they issued a Special Bulletin that addresses the fuel pump issue and which advises dealerships to repair the vehicle at no cost to the owner - me. I have complained to General Motors and I'm currently awaiting their response to my complaint and request for assistance with the repairs. As of 9:00 am Pacific Time, December 9, 2024, I've received no response from GM. My concern and reason for this report is GM's failure and the dealership's failure to notify me, and failure to issue a recall for this significant and dangerous problem with my vehicle.
FUEL LINE CONNECTION ON TOP OF FUEL PUMP CRACKED. VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AS MANY OTHER EXPERIEMCING THE SAME ISSUE.
Strong fuel fumes filling the car and garage on [XXX] after driving {just in and out of the garage), even stronger in trunk, its a convertible. Internet search showed either faulty gas cap, I replaced it hoping that would fix it, or broken plastic elbow on top of fuel pump on drivers side gas tank. Web sites also noted GM covered this safety recall and fix for 10 years. Well, they didn't tell people not to buy this car with a serious defect that could burn down their garage and home! I bought it used with 9200 miles last Feb for almost 52K and clean carfax. I took it to my local Chevrolet dealer, Durant in Granbury, TX 1/22/2023, they called back saying the recall only lasted 10 years and they won't cover any of the $3,600+ repair cost. Can you help? The car has yet to be inspected by a dealer. However, there is a strong odor of fuel, in the garage by the driver side of the vehicle. This has occurred on multiple occasions even when tank not at full capacity. Upon investigation, it appears as if it is similar to a reported problem with the fuel pump from multiple Corvette owners with similar make and model. Significant concern of potential fires and/or explosion around small children in the household.

The Primary tank module flange fuel and vapor leak. Yes, it's available for inspection upon request. It's sitting at Auto Nation Chevrolet 3215 South Auto Way Gilbert since November 28, 2022. They said they're waiting for the cross over fuel line part # 10337583. Fuel leaks where the fuel pump goes into the left gas tank and can cause an explosion. Also, I had extreme fuel vapors in my garage that could have caused my house to catch fire too. No warning lamps. I filed a case with GM #9-933208951. Based on my research its recall #15682. When I phone GM they tell me my case has been transferred to another department. The latest is James at 1 866 790 5600 ext 591-0336.
There is a strong fuel smell in the cabin of my car and in my garage if the gas tank is above a half tank.
The vehicle fills my garage with strong gasoline vapors when enclosed. I have to leave it parked outside to clear the odor from my garage. There is a leak somewhere. I have been informed and subsequently read that it is a known problem by GM Chevrolet Corp. I cannot locate an issued recall for this widely known problem with C6 Corvettes
My car with only 17,000 is generating a very strong gas smell, which completely fills my garage. I've read old notices that preferred to this problem and saw there was many reports in the past from your organization about this problem, that now have all been pulled. As any Corvette forms on line reflects, as it is a continuous problem. I now am keeping mine outside, because of the strong odor. There isn't a gas leak per a Chevrolet dealer and I can't afford the $1,000 in additional labor, their estimate to attempt to figure out. Please assist us (the thousands of other owners effecting 2007 -in 2013). Please help thank you very much on advance, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Airbag light in the dashboard goes on and off intermittently. There is a lot of talk on the corvette forum of other people having the same issue. I'm concerned the airbag won't work if it's needed.
Automatic Transmission Shift Lever. Only inspection would be repair invoice. Shifter would not move. Then it finally moved but would only stop at Drive Location and Neutral Location. Would not go back to the Park position. The problem was confirmed and repaired at an independent service center. Problem components inspected and replaced by an independent service center. There were no warnings . Luckly the problem first appeared while car was parked in my garage

Passenger side air bag module will not arm the air bag system when any person sits in the seat. Have made multiple attempts to purchase the air bag presence module since June of 2022. Once with dealer, could not get the part, and two more times online. Each time I am told the part is on back order and they have no timeline as to when the part will become available. So I have a $86,000 Corvette that my wife or son cannot ride in because the air bag sensor is faulty.
I have just recently purchased this 2013 Corvette grand sport. I'm come out into my garage this morning March 12th 2022 and there is a trail of fuel leaking from the rear driver's side of the car. Doing a quick online search I have found that this is a common problem on these cars . There is there is a plastic fitting on top of the fuel pump or the fuel tank itself is commonly known to develop a crack. This is an exceptionally dangerous situation as the fuel tank is very close to the hot exhaust when driving. Please advise as to any recourse I may have with GM or any Chevrolet dealership . This is a 2013 corvette with only 46000 miles.
.The internet (Youtube and Corvette Forum) is full of horror stories about the engine valves breaking and dropping into the engine causing a catastrophic engine failure without warning. I was paranoid about driving the car for fear of an engine failure and averting an accident. After reading a plethora of horror stories about numerous LS7, 427 engine failures I felt anxious about driving my car and wanted to fix my engine ASAP and not a moment to soon!!!! I took my car to a shop to determine the condition of the valves and one intake had extensive play in the valve guide - .012" wobble from side to side vs a factory spec of .003". They didn’t check the other head but assuming the worse. I just have my heads refurbed at with only 6k miles on my vehicle. This resulted in me spending $5,350 dollar to remedy the defect before the engine failed and potentially causing an accident. ........this problem seems to be a manufactory defect potentially common to all 427/LS7s built between 2006 and 2013!!!!!
1. Strong fuel smell when the car is parked in garage. Believe it is coming from top of driver's side fuel tank. Vapor is so strong I'm afraid it will explode. Doesn't matter if tank is full or empty. 2. Seat belt air bag warning light is on in the driver's cluster unit. Car only has 35,000 miles. Don't think this is safe. Will need it checked out ASAP at dealer.
Car has a constant smell of gasoline coming from it, appears to be leaking from the top of the fuel tank located on the drivers side of the vehicle, then it runs down and fills the fuel tank mounting bracket, could possibly leak onto exhaust pipe causing fire underneath the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact received a TSB from the Manufacturer under Special Coverage Adjustment: 15682 (Primary Tank Module Flange Fuel and Vapor Leaks). The contact stated while refueling from the above half tank of fuel, there was an abnormal fuel odor inside and outside the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be inspected however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact was informed to continue refueling the vehicle until the dealer was able to lift the vehicle and check for leaks. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,290.
car only has 31,000 miles on it and it's leaking gas from the top of the gas tank. will need fuel pump replaced. not a safe thing to have cheap parks, spilling gas over the exhaust pipes. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO ME! anti lock brake system is also giving issues for a couple years now, noted by previous owner. This car only has 31,000 miles!
DRIVER SIDE FUEL TANK LEAKING/STRONG GASOLINE VAPORS INSIDE CABIN
FUEL SMELL EMITS FROM VEHICLE. MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN APPROACHED WHILE PARKED... AND FROM INSIDE WHILE DRIVING.
GAS SMELL COMING FROM CAR
THREE WHEELS HAVE CRACKED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE 2 ORIGINAL 20 INCH REAR WHEELS INSTALLED BY GENERAL MOTORS CRACKED, LEAKED AIR AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW ONE OF THOSE REPLACEMENT WHEELS HAS CRACKED, LEAKS AIR AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. IN ALL CASES THERE HAVE BEEN NO EVENTS CONCURRENT WITH THE WHEELS LOSING AIR.
EVERY TIME I FUEL UP I GET A STRONG FUEL SMELL INSIDE MY CAR AND WHEN I OPEN MY TRUNK.
RAW FUEL SMELL ESPECIALLY AFTER FILL-UP, STRONGEST ON LEFT SIDE NEAR REAR WHEEL AREA. CANNOT PARK VEHICLE IN GARAGE. STRONGEST OUTSIDE BUT SLIGHT ODOR INSIDE ALSO.
TWICE THIS MONTH I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK AND BOTH TIMES I CAN SMELL THE GAS FUMES IN MY CAR AND WHEN PARKED IN GARAGE, IT SMELLS REALLY BAD OF GAS FUMES.
THE CAR SMELL LIKE GAS WHEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE.
WHEN THE CAR IS HALF FULL OR OVER WITH GAS WHETHER PARKED INSIDE OR OUT, THERE MUST BE LEAKING BECAUSE THE FUEL SMELL IN GARAGE IS EXTREMELY STRONG AND WORRIED ABOUT A FIRE. THE SMELL IS COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FORWARD WHEEL WELL. EVEN OUTSIDE IT SMELL SUPER STRONG! PLEASE ADVISE, VERY CONCERNED..
IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS I HAVE NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL FROM THE OUTSIDE OF MY CAR. NOW THAT SMELL IS OCCURRING INSIDE THE CAR ALSO EVERTIME I FILL THE TANK. I HAVE CHECKED SEVERAL DATABASES ON LINE TO SEE IF OTHER CARS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM AND IT HAS BEEN REPORTED SEVERAL TIMES.IT IS BECOMING STRONGER NOW THAN BEFORE, HOWEVER I CANNOT DETECT A LEAK UNDER THE CAR. I WILL BE CONTACTING A DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER IT IS NOT THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN ANOTHER STATE. THE PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED WITH OTHER VEHICLES LIKE THIS MAKE AND MODEL IS A SMALL LEAK AT THE VALVE ON THE FUEL TANK DUE TO A BROKEN OR CRACKED CONNECTOR OF SOME SORT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE TPMS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE "REAR TIRE LOW" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THREE-WAY CHEVROLET (4501 WIBLE RD, BAKERSFIELD, CA 93313, (661) 384-7578) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR WHEEL HAD A HAIRLINE CRACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
CAR SMELLS LIKE THERE IS A GAS LEAK. CAR PARKED IN GARAGE. DEALER STATES NO RECALLS!
I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN MY GARAGE AND IT WAS ALSO INSIDE THE CAR. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF A SPECIAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM GM, DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: 2007 - 2013 CORVETTE: SERVICE BULLETIN: 15682 PRIMARY TANK MODULE FLANGE FUEL AND VAPOR LEAKS SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT 15682 PRIMARY TANK MODULE FLANGE FUEL AND VAPOR LEAKS REFERENCE NUMBER: N150682 RELEASE DATE: JULY 2016 CONDITION SOME 2007 TO 2009 MODEL YEAR CADILLAC XLR AND 2007 TO 2013 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET CORVETTE VEHICLES MAY HAVE A CONDITION WHERE A FUEL ODOR IS DETECTED, FUEL DROPLETS APPEAR BELOW THE LEFT-HAND FUEL TANK WITH FUEL GAUGE LEVEL ABOVE 1/2, OR A MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ILLUMINATES DUE TO A LEAK PATH IN THE LEFT-HAND FUEL PUMP MODULE FLANGE. THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM IN A CORVETTE FORUM. HTTPS://WWW.CORVETTEFORUM.COM/FORUMS/C6-CORVETTE-GENERAL-DISCUSSION/3563123-DANGER-FUEL-LEAKS-SAFETY-RECALL.HTML
GAS LEAKING FROM LEFT SIDE OF CAR
WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN JULY OF 2018 FROM ARIZONA SPECIALTY MOTORS WITH APPROXIMATELY 14,500 MILES. WE USED THE CAR AS A 3RD VEHICLE/RECREATIONAL DRIVER SINCE PURCHASE. ON MONDAY, 09/02/19 WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM MT. LEMMON, AZ AND THE CAR QUIT RUNNING AT APPROXIMATELY 18,500 MILES HALFWAY DOWN THE MOUNTAIN ON OUR RETURN. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS A PULLOUT WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP ALTHOUGH WE HAD NO POWER, OTHERWISE WE COULD HAVE DRIVEN OR PUSHED OVER THE CLIFF. WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED BACK AND TOOK IT TO WATSON CHEVROLET IN TUCSON, AZ. ON WEDNESDAY, 09/04/19 WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE VALVE DROPPED IN CYLINDER #2 WHICH RESULTED IN CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY SITTING AT WATSON CHEVROLET WITH A COMPLETELY FAILED MOTOR AND HAVE BEEN PROVIDED AN ESTIMATED $20,000 IN REPAIRS. GM POSTED A SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2011 CLAIMING THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED; HOWEVER, THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ONLINE THAT IT IS STILL OCCURRING AND NOW WE ARE ALSO A VICTIM.
MAGNETIC SHOCKS ARE LEAKING AT ONLY 24,000 MILES. DEALER SAYS THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED OUT OF WARRANTY AT OVER $400 PER SHOCK.
MY CAR WAS SEEN BY THE DEALER THREE YEARS AGO FOR THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT CONSISTENTLY STAYING ON. NOW MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING ALL THE TIME. I SURVIVED TWO WARS WHILE SERVING IN THE ARMY AND NOW MY LIFE IS IN DANGER BECAUSE OF AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER CAR OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT.
AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK ON MY CORVETTE, I STARTED SMELLING GAS FUMES INSIDE THE CAR, AND LATER IN MY GARAGE. I LEFT THE CAR PARKED OUTSIDE FOR A DAY, AND AFTER PUTTING IT BACK INSIDE THE GARAGE, IT CONTINUED TO HAVE A STRONG SMELL OF GAS. I CHECKED THE GAS CAP AND IT WAS SECURE. DEALER SAID TO BRING IT IN IMMEDIATELY.
ABS LIGHT STAYS ON. HISTORY: ON 11/17/18 BEFORE DRIVING MY VEHICLE I HAD TO ADJUST MY DRIVER'S SEAT ALL THE WAY BACK TO ACCOMMODATE MY LONG LEGS AFTER ANOTHER PERSON HAD PREVIOUSLY MOVED THE SEAT FORWARD WHEN THEY WERE SITTING IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE THE ABS LIGHT BRIEFLY FLASHED, THEN CAME ON STEADY, THEN IT AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES THE LIGHT EVENTUALLY WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE NEXT TIME I STARTED THE CAR THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON, FLASHED BRIEFLY, THEN REMAINED ON STEADY. NOW, EACH TIME THE CAR IS STARTED/DRIVEN, THE ABS LIGHT BRIEFLY FLASHES DURING START UP AND THEN ALWAYS REMAINS CONSTANTLY ON AFTER THAT. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 19,000 MILES ON IT.
TWO MONTHS AGO, THE CAR WOULD CRANK, BUT NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES, AND WAITING OVERNIGHT TO CONTINUE TRYING, I HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO THE DEALER. TOW DRIVER DROPS CAR OFF FLATBED, SERVICE WRITER GETS IN TO CYCLE THROUGH TO GET MILEAGE, ETC, AND THE CAR STARTS. NO ERROR CODES. THEY KEEP IT FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT NO FURTHER PROBLEM. TEN DAYS AGO, SAME PROBLEM. TOW DRIVER TRIES TO START THE CAR TO DRIVE OFF FLATBED, WITHOUT SUCCESS. DEALER OBSERVES THE PROBLEM, BUT, AGAIN, CAR STARTS FOR THE SERVICE WRITER, AND NO CODES. LEAVE IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS, BUT NO REPEAT OF THE PROB. A FEW DAYS AGO, SAME PROBLEM, EXCEPT NOW THE CAR IS 'ON THE VERGE' OF STARTING, NOT JUST CRANKING, AND I CAN SMELL FUEL (THIS WAS NOT THE CASE PREVIOUSLY). THE CAR WAS LOW ON FUEL WHEN I LEFT, AND THE LOW FUEL WARNING HAD COME ON A FEW MILES BEFORE I STOPPED. SO, I GET SOME GAS IN THE CAR, EVENTUALLY 1/2 A TANK, AND NOW THE CAR IS JUST CRANKING, NOT 'ON THE VERGE', AND AAA IS CALLED TO TOW IT. AT THIS POINT, THE ATTEMPTS ARE TAKING THEIR TOLL ON THE BATTERY, BUT I CONTINUE TRYING, AND, WHILE THE TOW TRUCK IS EN ROUTE, IT STARTS JUST LIKE ALWAYS (PUSH BUTTON, ENGINE STARTS, NO LAG OR HESITATION). DEALER THINKS IT'S FUEL RELATED, BUT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, SO HAS NO IDEA WHAT TO DO. ONLINE FORUMS SUGGEST THAT IT'S AN OVERHEATED FUEL PUMP RELAY, OR CONNECTORS THERETO, RESULTING ULTIMATELY IN A COMPLETE FUSE BOX REPLACEMENT.
STRONG GAS SMELL WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED AFTER RETURNING FROM DRIVING. SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE GAS TANK AREA. NO EVIDENCE OF ANY GAS LEAKING, JUST A STRONG SMELL. CAN'T PARK THE CORVETTE IN THE GARAGE FOR FEAR THE GAS FUMES MAY IGNITE. HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER SET FOR 7/9/18.
Very strong gas smell when tank is more than half full.
FUEL SMELL IF TANKS FILLED PAST HALF FULL
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. VERY STRONG GASOLINE ODOR. CHECKED UNDER VEHICLE, NO EVIDENCE OF ANY LEAKS. CHECKED GAS CAP, CAP IS SECURE. ODOR SEEMS TO BE STRONGER NEAR RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL. CHECKED INTERNET. SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM RELATED TO FUEL TANK EVAP OR CROSSOVER LINES.HAVE TO PARK VEHICLE OUTDOORS DUE TO GAS WATERHEATER IN GARAGE. IS FUEL SYSTEM COVERED UNDER EMISSIONS WARRANTY? VEHICLE MILEAGE IS 33K.
THERE IS A SMELL OF GAS AFTER FILLING THE TANK. WHETHER USING HOLD THE HANDLE OR THE AUTO FILL, WHEN THE NOZZLE CLICKS OFF, BEFORE REMOVING THE NOZZLE FROM THE TANK FILLER NECK, I REACH OVER AND MANUALLY SHUT THE PUMP OFF IN ONE OF TWO WAYS: 1) MULTIPLE HANDLE PUMPS: MOVE THE SELECTED GRADE "PUMP LEVER" FROM THE "UP" (TO PUMP) TO THE "DOWN" (SHUT OFF) POSITION, OR 2) SINGLE HANDLE PUMP FOR DISPENSING MULTIPLE GRADES OF GASOLINE: USE A FINGER TO PUSH THE ACTUATOR UP TO SHUT OFF THE PUMP BEFORE REPLACING THE HANDLE ON THE PUMP. I NEVER "TOP OFF" OR "ROUND UP TO THE NEXT CENT OR DOLLAR" BUT THERE IS STILL AN ODOR OF GAS.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AT STARTUP AND STAYS ON. JIGGLING THE YELLOW CONNECTOR UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT WILL MAKE IT GO OFF SOMETIMES. THE CAR HAS AN EASY ENTRY FEATURE THAT SOMEHOW DISRUPTS THE YELLOW CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER SEAT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IF THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT IS ON, THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.
MY FUEL TANK CRACKED ON TOP, CAUSING FUEL TO RUN DOWN ON TO MY EXHAUST SYSTEM, VERY SCARY. I WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY, DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL I PULLED INTO MY FRIENDS CARPORT, GAS THEN LEAKED ONTO HIS DRIVEWAY, CAUSING FUMES TO GET INTO HIS GARAGE.
STRONG GASOLINE ODOR AFTER FILLING GAS TANK FULL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. DIAGNOSTIC CODE P0442 ON CAR COMPUTER. NO GAS ODOR WHEN FILLING TANK ONLY ONE-HALF FULL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE THE VEHICLE'S OIL WAS BEING CHANGED AT SUBURBAN CHEVROLET (36936 US-26, SANDY, OR 97055), THE DEALER NOTICED THAT THE THREADS ON THE STUD BOLTS ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL HAD STRETCHED, FAILED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,700.
