ON A STRAIGHT AWAY THE VEHICLE WILL DRIFT AND WHEN YOU MAKE A CORRECTION THE STEERING WHEEL CATCHES OR STICKS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN FEBRUARY 2014 IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE POWER STEERING GEAR WAS DEFECTIVE AND WAS REPLACED UNDER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. IT HAS FAILED AGAIN ON 11-10-14 FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND PART AT 51,000 MILES AND IS CURRENTLY BEING REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT MY COST OF $1,348.00. ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD THIS VEHICLE WOULD BE UNCONTROLLABLE AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS CRASH. IT MAY ALSO MIMIC AN OVER CORRECTION DUE TO THE SUDDEN JERK OF THE FRONT WHEELS. IF THIS WOULD OR HAS OCCURRED TO OTHER OWNERS, NO ONE WOULD SUSPECT THE POWER STEERING GEAR BECAUSE IT WOULD BE DAMAGED IN THE CRASH. *TR
MY 2012 CHEVY CRUZE TURNED THE RADIO DASHBOARD ON/OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN DECEMBER 2013 THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON THE RADIO ONLY ONCE THEN DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN. IN FEBRUARY 2014 IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN THIS TIME THE STEREO WOULD TURN ON/OF, THE DASH BOARD ON/OFF AND MY LOCKS WOULD UNLOCK AND LOCK THEMSELVES THE BLINKER STOPPED MAKING THE CLICKING SOUND AND THE OPEN DOOR SOUND FAILED AS WELL. THIS PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR OCCASIONALLY UNTIL APRIL 2014 THE VEHICLE STARTED TO DO ALL THE ISSUES ABOVE EXCEPT THIS TIME IT WOULD INCLUDE ANTI THEFT,SERVICE STABILTRACK,AND POWER WARNINGS EVERY TIME AND THE VEHICLE WOULD TURN OFF/ON THE ENGINE AND REQUIRED ME TO PUT IT ON PARK AND TURN IT OFF/ON. IN MAY 12 OF 2014 I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE CHEVROLET DEALER TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.THEY RESOLVED SEVERAL ISSUES TO WHAT THEY BELIEVED RESOLVED THE ISSUE OF THE VEHICLE TURNING ON OFF. THAT DIDN'T RESOLVE THE ISSUE. MY VEHICLE NOW IS WORSE IT TURNS OFF/ON WHILE DRIVING ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING. IT TURNS THE RADIO ON/OFF AND GIVES ME THE SAME ERRORS CODES. ITS LIFE THREATENING AS I ALMOST GOT INTO A ACCIDENT JUMPING ONTO THE FREE WAY JUNE 1014, MY VEHICLE TURNED OFF AND WOULD NOT TURN ON ON THE FREE WAY ENTRANCE AND A VEHICLE FROM BEHIND WAS ABOUT TO HIT ME. MY VEHICLE IS UN SAFE FOR ,ME AND MY FAMILY KEEPS TURNING ON/OFF AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO CHEVROLET DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. LIFE THREATENING ISSUES!! *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE DOOR LATCH BECAME INOPERABLE. AS A RESULT, THE DOORS FAILED TO OPEN AT VARIOUS TIMES AND NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000. THE VIN NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WE HAVE VIDEO OF THE RADIO DISPLAY AREA GOING BLANK THEN COMING ON THEN GOING BLANK CONTINUALLY, IT TAKES OUT ALL SOUND I.E., RADIO, NAVIGATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS, BLINKER SOUND .. WHILE THROWING MULTIPLE ERROR CODES IN THE AREA FOR ODOMETER READING I.E., SERVICE STABILA TRACK, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. THE USERS MANUAL TELLS YOU THAT IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS TO SHUT OFF THE CAR TO RESET THE CAR. IF YOU DO SHUT IT OFF OR STALL OUT THE CAR (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) EVERYTHING GOES DEAD. IT CANNOT BE ACCESSED BY ONSTAR (I CALLED THEM ON 2-19-2014 AND ASKED THEM TO DOCUMENT THAT THEY COULD NOT ACCESS THE CAR ... IT SIMPLY READ "ERROR" FOR THEM) THE FOB KEY HAS NO EFFECT, THERE IS NO STEERING, NO BRAKES, NO LIGHTS, NO NOTHING FOR 20 TO 45 MINUTES. SO IF IN TRAFFIC .. THE CAR SIMPLY BECOMES EITHER A ROAD BLOCK OR A TARGET. THE CAR HAS BEEN INTO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND EVEN WITH VIDEO OF THE INCIDENTS THEY SIMPLY SAY THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG AND MAKE RIDICULOUS SUGGESTIONS. UPON VEHICLE BEING WARMED UP THERE IS A COOLANT SMELL FROM THE HEATING SYSTEM. THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH CHEVROLET CRUZE AND IS A HEALTH HAZARD. I CANNOT KEEP THE HEAT ON WITHOUT THE WINDOWS DOWN. *TR THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR ONLY WHEN VEHICLE IS FULLY WARMED UP AND ONLY SEEMS TO COME OUT OF THE LEFTMOST DUCT. *TR
THE CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WONT ALLOW ME TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. WONT TURN OFF OR ON. DEALER CANT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WHEN TAKEN IN TO SEE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS ISSUES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ALL THE LIGHTS ARE COMING ON, THE DASHBOARD. THE BRAKE LIGHTS, SERVICE STABILITRAK LIGHT, AND THE ABS LIGHT AND THE RADIO BLINKS ON AND OFF AND THEN SOMETIMES THE RADIO STAYS OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I HAD TAKEN THE CARE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM TO CHECK IT AND THEY ADVISED ME IT WAS MY THERMOSTAT CAUSING THE ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT WHICH WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK TO GO. A WEEK LATER THE ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME BACK ON AGAIN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THEY DIDN'T SEE ANY CODES READING THAT THERE WAS AND ISSUE. I SHOWED THEM THE PICTURES AND THE VIDEO THAT I CAPTURED WHILE THE CAR WAS DOING IT AND THEY ADVISED ME I HAD A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BUT THEY CAN'T FIND IT. THE PROBLEM IS STILL AN ISSUE AND ITS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. *TR
I WAS SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT TO TURN LEFT. AFTER THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTICED A SLIGHT LOSS OF POWER. AS I PROCEEDED THROUGH THE TURN I HAD DIFFICULTY TURNING AS THOUGH I HAD NO POWER STEERING. ONCE THROUGH THE TURN I STILL HAS NO POWER STEERING AND NOTED A MESSAGE ON THE DASH READING "SERVICE STEERING". I CONTROLLED THE CAR TO THE NEXT STOPLIGHT WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE DURING WHICH TIME I STILL HAD NO POWER STEERING. AT THE STOP LIGHT I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND STARTED IT AGAIN. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR I HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING. PRIOR TO THIS INSTANCE AND MULTIPLE TIMES FOLLOWING I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILING. IT USUALLY BEGINS WITH THE RADIO BOARD "BLINKING" OFF. BY BLINKING I MEAN THAT THE RADIO COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF AND THE RADIO DASH LIGHTS BLINK OFF AND ON UNTIL IT FINALLY RETURNS TO FULL POWER. BUT USUALLY ITS NOT A ONE TIME THING. THERE ARE TIMES WHERE THIS OCCURS EVERY 5 SECONDS UNTIL I'M ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND TURN IT OFF. WHILE THIS OCCURS I WILL GET A MESSAGE ON MY DASH CLUSTER SAYING TO "SERVICE STABILITRAC" ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER CLUSTER LIGHTS THAT BLINK. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE WHAT I'VE EXPERIENCED, AND SUCH THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX ANYTHING. THIS FIRST BEGAN WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, BUT THAT HAS SINCE PASSED AND IF THEY WERE ABLE TO ACTUALLY FIX ANYTHING I WOULD BE STUCK WITH THE BILL. *TT
ELECTRICAL ISSUES THAT INCLUDE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING: WARNING INDICATORS WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF, SUCH AS "SERVICE STABILITRACK", "SERVICE POWER STEERING" AND "SERVICE ABS", WHILE DRIVING. RADIO BEGAN SHUTTING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE DISPLAY & RADIO SHUTS OFF, EVEN THE BLINKER WOULDN'T MAKE A SOUND. WHAT I FIND ALARMING IS DURING THESE EPISODES, THE POWER STEERING ACTUALLY FAILS FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. ON A 20 MINUTE DRIVE, I EXPERIENCED 4 FAILURES AND THE ABOVE ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAPPENING NON-STOP FOR THE DURATION OF THE TRIP. A DAY LATER, AS A TEST, I DROVE MY CAR AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD (LESS THAN A 1 MINUTE DRIVE) AND EXPERIENCED ALL THE SAME ISSUES, INCLUDING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I HAVE SCHEDULED SERVICE WITH A DEALER. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS AN ALARMING NUMBER OF CHEVY CRUZE OWNER WITH THIS ISSUE, WHICH POINTS TO MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT AND NOT WEAR & TEAR. LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE IN MOTION WOULD SEEM TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. *TR
VEHICLE NO LONGER ACKNOWLEDGED PRESENCE OF THE KEY FOB IN VEHICLE AND WARNED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE SHUT OFF. KEY FOB WAS IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME AND HAD BEEN DETECTED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR AUTOMATICALLY AND ALLOW IGNITION OF VEHICLE BY PRESSING START BUTTON WHILE FOB WAS IN MY POCKET. ONCE WE STOPPED THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL 9 OR 10 TRIES OF PUSHING THE IGNITION. AFTER THE INITIAL OCCURRENCE WHILE DRIVING, IT THEN SPORADICALLY HAD ISSUES WITH STARTING. EACH TIME IT IT WOULD SHOW A WARNING MESSAGE THAT THE KEY FOB WAS NOT DETECTED, EVEN THOUGH IT JUST AUTO UNLOCKED THE DOORS AFTER SENSING THE KEY FOB. DEALER REPLACED KEY FOBS, AND PROBLEM RETURNED. TWO DAYS LATER NEARLY STRANDING MY WIFE WHILE TRAVELLING OUT OF TOWN SINCE THE CAR WOULD NOT INITIALLY START. DEALER THEN REPLACED THE MODULE/COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE KEYLESS FUNCTIONALITY. PROBLEM REOCCURRED A FEW DAYS LATER. DEALER WILL NOW REPLACE THE KEY FOBS AGAIN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN FOR A SEPARATE REPAIR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AROUND 6 AM MY DASH BOARD BLINKED OFF AND ON AND SHOWED AN ERROR "TRACTION CONTROL/STABILITRACK." I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 3 TIMES AND THEY TELL ME WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN THEIR CARE IT DOES HAPPEN. THE LAST TIME I LET THEM KEEP THE VEHICLE FOR A 1 1/2 WEEKS AND IT HAPPEN THE NEXT DAY I DROVE IT. NOW I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO IS GOING TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE RENTAL I NEEDED. *TR
VEHICLE MOMENTARILY STEERED TO RIGHT WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT. VEHICLE WAS GOING STRAIGHT ON INTERSTATE AT APPROX. 70 MPH AND PULLED TO RIGHT FOR APPROX. ONE SECOND, THEN WENT BACK TO NORMAL. HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY SEVEN TIMES ON 110 MILE DRIVE. WE (WIFE AND I) WERE JUST FORTUNATE THAT NO ONE WAS NEAR US IN RIGHT LANE WHEN THESE ANOMALIES OCCURRED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND DEALER PUT APPROX. 100 MORE MILES ON VEHICLE AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. DEALER CHECKED ALIGNMENT AND IT WAS WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS. HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND VEHICLES WITH JTEKT EPS SYSTEM HAVING SIMILAR STEERING ANOMALIES. CONCERNED THAT STEERING INPUT NOT CONTROLLED BY DRIVER CAN CAUSE VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS IS A POTENTIAL "CATASTROPHIC" SAFETY ISSUE, SO PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR
I WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I WILL GET A WARNING LIGHT SAYING TO 'SERVICE AIRBAG'. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE AIRBAG SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS BAD AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SEAT. THEY ALSO SAID THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THIS REPLACEMENT AND IT WOULD COST OVER $1,000 FOR A NEW SEAT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED PROPERLY. IF A PERSON IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A PASSENGER AND THE AIRBAG ISN'T READING THAT A PERSON IS IN THE SEAT SERIOUS FATALITIES MAY OCCUR. *TR
TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR OIL CHANGE, HAD TO DO "HEAVY ENGINE REPAIR" PER TECHNICIAN, REPLACED WATER PUMP AND SEAL AS IT WAS FOUND LEAKING. REFILLED WITH COOLANT. *TR

I am wondering when GM is gonna admit fault on these Chevy Cruzes? My mechanic father owns one. He's had to replace Valve cover gasket on his 3x. Mine at least 4-5x now. One bad oil change at a dealership almost cost me my engine at Sunfair Chevrolet. They left 2 rings on the oil fuel filter causing it to leak all over my engine compartment which left me roadside the next day after driving it 2 hours the night before back in Aug 2016. So they gave us 10K miles over this incident in case my engine blew. It ran a bit hotter than it did before this incident. I also noticed a burning smell. Enclosed in the scanned documents you will find a letter from Chevrolet discussing a "engine light" coming on and engine coolant leak from the water pump reservoir leading to a drip of coolant onto the engine or onto the ground. Overtime, the loss of coolant will reduce cooling performance and eventually could lead to engine overheating. Well, that isn't the only issue. Look at my scanned documents to see how many times the valve cover has been the issue. Always the engine light coming on and pull codes. A mechanic friend, replaced the valve cover gasket for me before it became a recall to save me$. Engine light came on again in 1 year. The PCV valve was built into the valve cove creating a chronic problem. Leads to a loss of turbo power. The last time manifold had to be repaired, they lifted the valve cover to get to it; leaked oil one day after my husband just replaced it. We assumed that was the issue (again), so instead of taking it in, he replaced the seal before taking it in. Someone please help us. Last fix was Aug. 2023, one day after it was in the shop. over $1200 in repairs I called GM, they told me to take it into the dealership. They focused on an oil leak from oil feed line. 4 days in still wasn't repaired. 1-20-14 I think was first incident of a valve cover issue. This is only 2 years after the car was "NEW". 137K miles on it now. Faithful with oil changes.

RECENTLY, CAR RADIO HAS BEEN FLICKERING ON AND OFF, ALONG WITH SERVICE NOTIFICATIONS OF STABILI TRAC, TRACTION CONTROL. CHEVY DEALER NOTIFIED, SERVICED CAR, FOUND NOTHING AND HAS NO EXPLANATION. TODAY, STOPPED AT A CORNER TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN. AS I WAS ACCELERATING AT APPROX 2-3 MPH AROUND THE CORNER, THEN STEERING WAS LOST AND COULD NOT TURN THE CORNER. LOST ALL CONTROL OF CAR. VERY FORTUNATE THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OR INJURY TO ANYTHING OR ANYONE. SCARY INCIDENT THAT COULD OF HAD A WORSE OUTCOME. *TR
MY TRUNK OPENED AT RANDOM WHEN I WAS HEADED TO WORK. THIS OCCURRED MANY TIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND AS WELL AS WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED AND LOCKED. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A DISTRACTION AND HAVING TO PULL OVER, ITEMS FALLING OUT IN FRONT OF VEHICLE FOLLOWING, AND ALSO COULD HAVE HAD ITEMS STOLEN. SINCE THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER, IT HAS STOPPED THAT ISSUE BUT, THE TRUNK WILL NOT OPEN WITH THE BUTTON ON THE REAR OF THE TRUNK. THE ONLY WAY IT OPEN IS WITH THE KEY FOB. THIS IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHERS. I HAVE STOPPED AT A FEW CHEVROLET DEALERS ASKING FOR THEM TO FIX THIS BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED BUT THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, SHE NOTICED THAT OIL LEAKED FROM THE ENGINE AND ONTO THE GROUND. A WEEK BEFORE I CHECKED THE INFO CENTER ON OIL LIFE AND IT SAID 60% LUCKLY I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA NOT IN A CITY WITH TRAFFIC. WHEN THE ENGINE REVED UP IT SPED UP AND MY FOOT WAS OFF THE GAS.
ANTI THEFT SYSTEM KILLED ENGINE ON CAR WOULD NOT START, RADIO FLICKERED ON AND OFF LOST SOUND AND DISPLAY HAVE HAD ISSUE WITH RADIO MANY TIMES SINCE PUT DISPLAY ON VOLTAGE AND NOTICED IT SHOWED 12.8 TO 15.9 VOLTS WHEN THIS OCCURRED . DEFINITE ISSUE SOME WHERE AND NOTICED THE LAST TIME THIS OCCURRED STEERING GOT TIGHT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED AND A FIX PROVIDED. DEALER CAN NOT DUPLICATE WHEN THERE ALSO HAVE HAD CAR LOCK ITSELF. *TR
