FEBRUARY OF 2014 I SPENT 1011.48 TO REPLACE A GASKET BETWEEN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND THE RADIATOR, WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS MADE OF PLASTIC. THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO SOLVE THE OVERHEATING OF MY ENGINE, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM DID NOT STOP AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE HEATER CORE NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WHICH WILL COST ME ANOTHER $800-$900. IN ALL THE COMPLAINTS WRITTEN BY OTHER OWNERS THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE EQUINOX. I HAVE NO HEAT IN THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT DEFROST ONLY FOGS THE WINDSHIELD AND IT CONSISTENTLY OVERHEATS WHICH IN TURN ACTIVATES THE FAN WHICH I SUSPECT WILL STOP WORK SOON DUE TO OVERWORKING. THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN AND IS A DANGER IN THE WINTER MONTHS. I HONESTLY LOVE THIS TRUCK, BUT IF THIS A COMMON PROBLEM OR RECALL ISSUE IT NEED TO BE REMEDIED NOW. *TR
I CAN START MY CAR AND THEN PULL THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING. THIS ISSUE STARTED IN NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR (2013) AND MY EQUINOX ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

PLEASE NOTE IN ORDER TO TRY TO AVID AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH NARDONE ELECTRIC TRUCK,BROADSIDED MY DRIVER SIDE ON A COMPLETE SCREPEDOWN ON MY VEHICLE, AND AFTERWARD AFTER I LEFT THE EXPRESSWAY 93 N IN BOSTON ,15 MINUTES LATER AFTER I STOPPED AT A CONVENIENCE STORE,MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT ONLY STRAIGHT... *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 EQUINOX LX WITH MY TWO GRANDCHILDREN WHEN THEY NOTICED A SMELL OF EXHAUST GASES IN THE REAR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THIS WAS WITH THE HEATING SYSTEM ON AND IN ITS NORMAL CONFIGURATION. AFTER STOPPING I CHECKED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS AND COULD NOT IDENTIFY ANY IMMEDIATELY WITH A VISUAL INSPECTION. I OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THE PIPE CONNECTING THE EGR VALVE TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS DISCONNECTED AND EMITTING EXHAUST GAS INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND INTAKE AREA. IT APPEARS THAT THE WELD ON THE PIPE BOSS WAS CRACKED. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE OCCURRED PREMATURELY. AFTER CALLING THE DEALERSHIP FOR A NEW PIPE I WAS TOLD BY THE PARTS DEPARTMENT THE PIPE WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND I WOULD HAVE TO OBTAIN A KIT WHICH INCLUDED THE PIPE AND A NEW EGR VALVE. MY QUESTION WAS THIS EVER CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL ITEM AS THE KIT IS $360.00. *TR
FIRST WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 25 MPH I HIT MY KEY RING AND THE KEYS FELL OUT. THE CAR CONTINUE TO RUN I JUST PUT THE KEYS BACK IN TO THE IGNITION WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT YOU CAN START THE CAR AND THEN REMOVE THE KEY AND ALL CONTINUE TO RUN AND WORK. ALSO FOUND THAT WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR THE OTHER DAY, ONCE I TURNED THE KEY TO START IT WOULD KEPT RUNNING THE STARTER. LET ME EXPLAIN A LITTLE BETTER, WHEN I TURNED THE KEY TO START THE CAR AND THEN LET GO THE CAR STARTER CONTINUE TO RUN UNTIL I MOVED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSTION. *TR
HEAD ON ACCIDENT INTO DITCH, AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF
RECEIVED VEHICLE UPON MY MOTHERS PASSING. HAD 45K ON IT, GARAGED AND ONLY IN TOWN DRIVING. IN JUST OVER YEAR I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE REAR ROCKER JOINT, AC UNIT, FRONT RIGHT SPEAKER, FRONT BRAKES AND STARTER. NOW, THERE IS A WATER NOISE UNDER HOOD AND TRUCK IS STARTING TO ROCK WHEN AT STOP LIGHT. IT IS ALSO TRYING TO RUN HOT BUT NO LIGHTS, LEAKS OR ISSUE CAN BE FOUND. THE BACK SPOILER WAS LOOSE HTTP BEFORE THEN AND LEAKS IN THE BACK. LIFT GATE HARD TO OPEN AND MOLDING AROUND FRONT WINDSHIELD IS COMING LOOSE. I HAVE 65K ON THIS TRUCK. THERE IS NO WAY THIS TRUCK SHOULD HAVE THIS MANY PROBLEMS. I FEEL UNSAFE IN THIS LIGHTLY USED AUTO. *TR

WENT TO START MY CAR AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. I JIGGLED IT FOR A LONG TIME AND IT FINALLY TURNED BUT THE HEADLIGHTS WONT WORK NOW. I LOOKED ON LINE AND SAW A FEW OTHER HAVE THIS ISSUE. I CANNOT DRIVE AT NIGHT NOW. *TR
WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE - HAD AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY - GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 - SLAMMED BRAKES - GOT REAR-ENDED AND THEN REAR-ENDED PERSON IN FRONT OF ME - AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. IN ADDITION, THE KEY WOULD RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE IGNITION KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
AT APPROXIMATELY 10-30 MPH THE CARS ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES ON ITS OWN, BOTH WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND WHILE JUST DRIVING WITHIN THAT SPEED RANGE. WHILE TRYING TO COME TO A STOP, THE ABS SYSTEM WILL ENGAGE AND WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO STOP SAFELY. IN ONE INSTANCE I HAD TO YANK ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND DROP THE CAR TO A LOWER GET JUST TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE SYSTEM WILL KEEP ENGAGING UNTIL THE SYSTEM TIMES ITSELF OUT. THEN THE ABS AND TC LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATE. I AM APPROXIMATE $1500.00 INTO THIS ISSUE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND STILL NO SOLUTION. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE CARS FL HUB ASSEMBLY, MULTIPLE SPEED SENSORS, AND THE E.B.C.M. THROUGH CHANGING ALL THING PARTS STILL NO SUCCESS. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY THERE NOW FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSING. *TR
MY CENTER BEARINGS WERE REPLACED ABOUT 3YRS AGO THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE THOUGH I HAD HEARD FROM MANY PEOPLE THAT THIS WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. CLUNKING BEGAN UNDER MY CAR AGAIN SO I KNEW WHAT IT WAS. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND THE CENTER BEARINGS WERE BROKE AGAIN AND THE BEARINGS AND THE BACK OF THE DRIVESHAFT ALSO. THE REAR U JOINT WAS ALSO BROKEN. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AS WELL AS DANGEROUS. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY CAR NO RUNNING OVER LOGS IN THE WOODS OR THINGS OF THAT NATURE HOW CAN THIS KEEP HAPPENING UNLESS IT IS A DEFECT OR FLAW IN DESIGN.THIS TIME WITH THE CLUNKING MY ANTI LOCK BRAKES WERE GOING OFF EVERY TIME I STOPPED TOO.MECHANIC HAD A HARD TIME GETTING THE PARTS TO REPLACE APPARENTLY EVERYONE NEEDS THEM BUT CHEVY SEES NO PROBLEM WITH THIS. *TR
EXPERIENCED ABS BRAKES KICKING IN AT VERY LOW SPEEDS (10 MILES OR LESS). BROUGHT INTO DEALER WHO REPLACED FRONT TWO WHEEL SENSORS. WORKED FINE FOR 2 MONTHS AND IT STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN. ONLY THIS TIME, THE TRUCK WAS NOT STOPPING SUDDENLY AND ALMOST CAUSED NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS. BROUGHT INTO DEALER A SECOND TIME WHO HAD THE TRUCK FOR 3 DAYS ONLY TO TELL ME THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO REPLACED MY FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL BEARING. DROVE HOME FROM THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO A 3RD AND 4TH MECHANIC WHO BOTH ADMITTED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM BUT NOTHING WAS BEING IDENTIFIED WHEN SCANNED. CALLED CHEVY WHO CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL DEALER. WE PLAYED PHONE TAG FOR SEVERAL DAYS WITH NO FINAL RESPONSE. THE TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR 2 MONTHS AS I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND OTHERS AFTER MANY NEAR MISSES. WAS EVEN PULLED OVER BY AN OFFICER WHO ESCORTED ME HOME. I CANT CONTINUE TO DUMP MONEY INTO THIS VEHICLE THAT IS ALMOST 10 YEARS OLD. I ALSO CANT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED WHEN THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE AND A NUMBER OF OTHERS. LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS. FUNNY THOUGH THAT THE RECENT MALIBU RECALL IS HAVING SOMEWHAT SIMILAR ISSUES AS I STARTED TO LOSE MY TAILLIGHTS ON A REGULAR BASIS AT THE SAME TIME THE ABS SYSTEM STARTED ACTING UP. COULD JUST BE A COINCIDENCE BUT SHOULD STILL BE INVESTIGATED JUST BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND THE TRIAL AND ERROR FIXES WE ARE ALL RECEIVING. *TR
KEY KEEPS GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION WHEN TRYING TO REMOVE THE KEY, AFTER MONTHS OF THIS AND COMPLAINING BOUT IT TO CARMAX AND THEM NOT FINDING A "PROBLEM" THE KEY WOULD NO LONGER WORK, TURN IN THE IGNITION. NOW THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH MANY CHEVY EQUIONXES FROM 2005-2010. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE AS 120,000.
THIS VEHICLE IS A JOKE, I ALREADY PUT MONEY DOWN ON IT AND HAVE ONLY HAD IT A LITTLE OVER 2 WEEKS. 5 DAYS IT WAS ACTUALLY IN MY POSSESSION BUT NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IT MUCH. THE REST OF THE TIME IT WAS AT THE CAR LOTS MECHANIC, IT DIES DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, IT IS HARD TO START AND SOMETIMES WON'T START AFTER 10 TRIES, IT IS SHIFTING HARD AND NOT WHEN IT IS NECESSARY( DOWN SHIFTING WHEN SPEEDING UP) AND IT HAS A HORRIBLE NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHICH THE MECHANIC CAN'T FIGURE OUT. NOT TO MENTION THAT THE FUEL PUMP WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED THANKS TO THE FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING PROPERLY... I FEEL LIKE I JUST MADE A VERY COSTLY MISTAKE( I STILL OWE 6900 ON THIS VEHICLE... ) CHEVY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THIS VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE FIXING THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
FOUND KEY WOULD NOT TURN PAST 'OFF' POSITION. AFTER WIGGLING KEY FINALLY TURNED ON AND WAS OK. AFTER A FEW DAYS FOUND KEY COULD BE REMOVED WHILE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. SEVERAL DAYS LATER FOUND KEY WOULD NOT MOVE SWITCH TO FULL OFF POSITION. JUST FOUND THIS SITE AND SEE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR TROUBLES. LOOKS TO ME LIKE THESE SWITCHES ARE POORLY MANUFACTURED AND SHOULD BE REPLACE BY GM AT NO OR MINIMAL CHARGE TO OWNERS WHO TRUSTED THEY WERE PURCHASING A TOP NOTCH VEHICLE WITH A TRUST-WORTHY MANUFACTURER. MILEAGE AT FAILURE 90,000. *TR
THE IGNITION GETS HUNG UP AND WONT ALLOW TO START OR MOVE IGNITION SWITCH TO TURN OFF UNLESS YOU GIGGLE IT AROUND. THIS PROBLEM IS SOMETIMES HELPED BY GOING TO THE DEALER AND GETTING A NEW KEY. THIS WEARS OUT IN A FEW MONTHS AND THE PROBLEM RETURNS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
I STOPPED AT A GAS STATION AND SHUT OFF TRUCK . GOT OUT AND PRESSED TWICE ON THE LOCK ON KEYLESS ALARM SYSTEM . THE TRUCK LOCKED BUT NO HONK . CAME OUT OF GAS STATION AND TRIED TO UNLOCK TRUCK WITH KEYLESS SYSTEM . NOTHING . HAD TO USE KEY TO GET IN . PUT KEY IN IGNITION TO TURN ON AND BING BING BING NOTHING . NO ELECTRONICS WORK TRUCK DOESN'T DO ANYTHING . *TR
AFTER SHUT CAR OFF, KEY GETS TRAPPED HALFWAY IN THE IGNITION CYLINDER- WOULD NOT LET GO OF THE KEY, NOR WOULD LET ME PUSH BACK IN TO START THE CAR. CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TWICE WHEN THIS OCCURRED AS I WAS AWAY FROM HOME; THEY BASICALLY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN TRY PLAYING WITH IT UNTIL IT LET GO. WHEN IT HAPPENED AT HOME, I LEFT CAR ALONE WITH THE KEYS HALFWAY IN IGNITION IN DRIVEWAY AND IT LET GO OF THE KEYS HOURS LATER. WHEN DAD BORROWED THE CAR, HE USED PLYERS TO REMOVE KEY. APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH IGNITION CLENCHING KEY SPONTANEOUSLY WITH NO REMEDY.

HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 2 IGNITION SWITCHES WHICH RESULTED IN CAR BEING TOWED EACH TIME. *TR
I HAVE HAD AN IGNITION PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY A YEAR OR MORE. WHEN I PUT KEY IN IGNITION, I HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING IT TO TURN TO START VEHICLE. AND THEN, WHEN I WANT TO TURN CAR OFF, IT IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. I TOOK TO CHEVY DEALER IN KENOSHA, WI AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON RECALL LIST AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF. I JUST WONDER WITH ALL THESE RECALLS GOING ON WITH CHEVY FOR THE SAME ISSUE THAT I AM HAVING WITH MY CHEVY, WHY THEY WON'T FIX IT AND COVER EXPENSES? PLEASE HELP! *TR

KEY COMES OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING, CAN TAKE THE KEY IN AND OUT OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR IS DRIVING, DOES NOT TURN THE CAR OFF. ALSO SOMETIMES THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT LOCK AND PREVENTS YOU FROM BEING ABLE TO START THE CAR.
THIS VEHICLE TAKE 4QT OF OIL ,BUT THE BOOK SAID 4.5 QT THAT WILL OVER FILL DIP STICK SHOW OVER A QT FULL CHECK WITH PART DEPT AT CHEVROLET AND WAS TOLD THAT IT ONLY TAKE 4QT WITH FILTER INCLUDED OTHER SERVICE MANUAL ALSO SAY 4QT WITH FILTER 'BECAUSE OF THIS DIFFERENT IN MANUAL CAPACITY THIS HAS CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE OVER THE YEARS. *TR

THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING, THE HEADLIGHTS ONLY WORK ON HIGHBEAM, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK EXCEPT FOR THE SMALL ONE IN THE MIDDLE. THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO TRY TO START EVEN AFTER THE KEY IS REMOVED. THE CAR CURRENTLY RUNS HOT SO THE FAN RUNS CONSTANTLY AND RUNS THE BATTERY DOWN. I HAVE PARKED THE CAR AND WONT DRIVE BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

AT 120,000 MILES LEAKING LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, FIXED THAT. 3 MONTHS LATER BLOWN HEAD GASKET, FOUND BAD FUEL INJECTOR WHILE FIXING THAT. 6 DAYS AFTER ALL THAT WAS FIXED THE PCM/ECM WENT OUT, STILL AT SHOP AS I TYPE. WONDER WHAT IS NEXT. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED GM PRODUCTS, BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS MY LAST ONE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TWO MECHANICS THAT THE BEARING IN MOTOR WILL NOW GO BAD SINCE WATER GOT IN OIL TWICE FROM LEAKING GASKETS. 3 MECHANICS TOLD ME THIS MOTOR IS KNOWN FOR BLOWN HEAD GASKETS AND LEAKING LOWING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS. I MENTIONED THIS TO THE TECHNICIAN WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE COOLANT WAS MIXING WITH THE OIL AND I SHOULD HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BY A MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS BLOWN HEAD GASKET. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH OVER A SPEED BUMP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKES BEGAN TO PULSATE WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AFTER REPEATEDLY APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMALLY AND HAD BEEN TAKEN TO FOUR INDEPENDENT MECHANICS FOR DIAGNOSIS, ALL OF WHICH WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FRONT BRAKES, ABS SENSORS AND ABS MODULE WERE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. MOST RECENTLY, A TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT PROBLEM COULD POSSIBLY BE CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
CARRIER BEARING ON 2005 EQUINOX TOTALLY GONE. MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVESHAFT IS BENT WHICH MOST LIKELY CAUSED THE CARRIER BEARING TO WEAR DOWN. MECHANIC SAID IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO BEND THE DRIVESHAFT UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF VEHICLE AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE HEARD A THUMPING NOISE IN THE REAR OF VEHICLE WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR THE PAST 6 YRS. SEVERAL SHOPS AND DEALERSHIP WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX 35 MPH APPROACHING A CURVE IN THE ROAD. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE CAR FISHTAILED AND SLID SIDEWAYS OFF THE ROAD, DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. WE HAD SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN, I WENT TO GET IN MY CAR FROM WORK TO GO HOME AND THE CAR WAS AN INCH DEEP IN THE FLOOR BOARDS. I COULD NOT TELL WHERE THIS WATER ACTUALLY CAME FROM. I WAS VERY UPSET, THIS WAS AFTER 5:00 PM ON A FRIDAY SO NEEDLESS TO SAY I DID NOT CALL INSURANCE COMPANY UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. I HAD NOT LEFT ANY WINDOWS DOWN BECAUSE IT HAD RAINED ALL WEEK. I SPOKE WITH A CHEVROLET DEALER NOT THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW FROM, THEY ARE NO LONGER IN BUSINESS. HE INFORMED ME THAT WE NEEDED TO GUT THE CAR AND DRY IT OUT FIRST IN ORDER TO DETERMINE WHERE THE WATER WAS LEAKING IN AT. I SPOKE WITH MY INS. AGENT AND ASKED WOULD THIS BE COVERED AND SHE DID NOT KNOW. SHE CALLED HER STATE FARM OFFICE AND RETURNED A CALL BACK TO ME. SHE STATED THAT AN ADJUSTER IN THE OFFICE TOLD HER THAT MY INSURANCE WOULD PAY FOR THE DRYING OUT OF MY CAR, BUT WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE MECHANICAL ISSUE. I WAS GIVEN A CLAIM NO. I CALLED THE ADJUSTER AND SHE SET UP A RENTAL CAR AND TOLD ME THAT THE CHECK WOULD BE PAYABLE TO ME AND I WOULD PAY THE DEALERSHIP. THIS WAS ON A WEDNESDAY, ON FRIDAY I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE AGENT WHO STATED TO ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY ANYTHING BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE WAS KNOWN FOR MULTIPLE LEAKS. I WAS TOLD ONE THING THEN ANOTHER. I WAS VERY FRUSTRATED AND CALLED GM TO COMPLAIN TO THEM THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL IF THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. THEY WERE GOING TO CALL ME BACK AND NEVER ANOTHER WORD FROM THEM. I EXPLAINED TO INS. AND TO GM, AND ALSO TO THE INSURANCE COMMISSION THAT THIS WAS A HAZARD ON THE ROAD DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CAR WAS FOGGING UP FROM INSIDE AND I HAD ICE ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR DUE TO COLD WEATHER.I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. I HEARD A RATTLING COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR, SO I TOOK IT MY REPAIR SHOP. HE SAID IT WAS A BROKEN CARRIER BEARING, AND ORDERED THE PART. SAID IT WOULD BE $550 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. THE NEXT DAY HE CALLED AND SAID HE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO REPLACE JUST THE ONE PART, BUT THAT THE ENTIRE DRIVE SHAFT MIGHT HAVE TO BE REPLACED, FOR AROUND $1200. VERY CONSISTENT WITH OTHER OWNERS' ISSUE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
INFREQUENTLY, WITHOUT WARNING, THIS VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION WILL ABRUPTLY DOWN SHIFT. THE SHIFT WILL HAPPEN AS THE VEHICLE SLOWS AND VIOLENTLY SLOWS THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. INFREQUENTLY THIS HAPPENS AS I SLOW TO TURN TO ENTER THE ON RAMP FOR INTERSTATE DRIVING. IN THE MOST RECENT CASE, THE ROADWAY SURFACE WAS VERY SLIPPERY. I WAS JUST BEGINNING A RIGHT TURN AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED VIOLENTLY. THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWING TO THE RIGHT AS THE FRONT TIRES IMMEDIATELY DROPPED THEIR SPEED. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH STABILITY, TRACTION CONTROL OR ANYTIME OF ANTI SKID ACCESSORIES/OPTIONS. THE SLIPPERY ROAD SURFACE GREATLY MAGNIFIED THE EFFECT OF THE UNEXPECTED DOWNSHIFT AND RESULTING IMMEDIATE DROP IN SPEED. UNTIL THIS EVENT, THE DOWN SHIFTING WAS SO INFREQUENT, I WAS ONLY REMOTELY CONCERNED ABOUT IT. MY CONCERN UP UNTIL THIS EVENT WAS MORE FOCUSED MECHANICAL AND NOT CONTROL ABILITY. I QUICKLY MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE GM DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. THEY ASSESSED THE PROBLEM AND CALLED ME TO ADVISE, THERE IS A TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH GM RECOMMENDS FOR THIS TRANSMISSION. IT IS NOT CERTAIN IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT MOST LIKELY IT WILL. I WAS CHARGED $180. TO DIAGNOSE AND REPROGRAM. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN. GM APPARENTLY KNOWS THERE IS A PROGRAM ERROR WHICH NEEDS AN UPDATE, AND I AM SUPPOSE TO PAY TO FIX THE KNOWN PROBLEM? YET THERE IS NO SAFETY BULLETIN FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM? I STRONGLY POINTED OUT THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH CAN BECOME A SERIOUS ACCIDENT UNDER THE RIGHT SURFACE CONDITIONS. THE SERVICE ADVISER AGREED WITH ME, HOWEVER STATED TO THE EFFECT, THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE IS THE REPAIR GM AUTHORIZES. I FEEL THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE NEEDS TO BE MANDATORY FOR OLDER VEHICLES OPERATED IN SLIPPERY ROADWAY CONDITIONS, EVEN A SERVICE BULLETIN WOULD HELP WARN UNSUSPECTING DRIVERS. *TR
