THE CENTER CARRIER BEARING HAS PULLED AWAY FROM THE AXEL ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE REPAIR SHOP (TIRE CENTER) TOLD ME THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON AND HAVE SEEN IT ON THIS MODEL MANY TIMES. A CHEVY MECHANIC TOLD ME IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE. THERE IS A TON OF INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE FOLLOWED BY A SEVER RESISTANCE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED A SQUEAKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE ALL FOUR BRAKES WERE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WA 87,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN IT RAINED, THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER BECAME FILLED WITH WATER AND THE PASSENGER REAR AND DRIVER LEFT SIDE FLOOR BECAME WET. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000. UPDATED 8/18/10 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE BATTERY DIED AND THE VEHICLE SLAMMED TO A STOP DUE TO POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. UPDATED 08/23/10
VEHICLE BEGAN IDLING ROUGH AFTER SITTING ALL NIGHT AND THEN BACKING OUT OF GARAGE. ONCE IN DRIVE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD FLASH FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS. EVENTUALLY, AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON AGAIN. NOW IT NEEDS A NEW REAR HEAD GASKET AND THE #1 CYLINDER IS LEAKING. *TR
EQUINOX HAS HAD POWER FAILURE WHILE DRIVING 6+ TIMES...ALL WHEN DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS (EITHER RAINING OR HAVING JUST RAINED). FIRST TIME WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT I DROVE THRU A PUDDLE AND GOT EVERYTHING WET (I DIDN'T); HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REPLACED. HAVE TAKEN CAR BACK TO DEALER WITHIN THE LAST TWO MONTHS BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AGAIN, AND WAS TOLD ALL OF MY WEATHERSTRIPPING NEEDED REPLACING B/C THAT WAS ALLOWING WATER IN. HAD THIS DONE. HAPPENED AGAIN TONIGHT (WET WEATHER TODAY, BUT WAS NOT RAINING WHEN I WAS DRIVING). THE OTHER TIMES THIS HAS OCCURRED, I'VE LET MY EQUINOX SIT WHERE IT DIED FOR A FEW DAYS TO LET IT "DRY OUT" AND THAT HAS WORKED, BUT THIS NOT EXACTLY THE BEST SOLUTION AS I DON'T LIVE IN THE DESERT AND IT DOES RAIN HERE. CHEVY DEALER OF NO HELP; SAID HE AGREES THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT BUT THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO ABOUT IT. ADVISED ME TO CALL CHEVY CS. I HAVE DEALT WITH THEM BEFORE ON ANOTHER EQUINOX ISSUE AND THEY WERE OF NO HELP. WISH I WOULD HAVE INVESTIGATED MY STATE'S LEMON LAW IN TIME. SUDDEN AND TOTAL LOSS OF POWER IS DANGEROUS!! *TR
CAR DOESN'T START ON FIRST ATTEMPT. IT TRIES, THEN EVEN AFTER I RELEASE THE KEY IT CONTINUES TO START, LIKE ITS STUCK, I HAVE TO PUMP THE GAS TO GET IT TO START, AND IT ACTS FLOODED. ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ON. WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKES IT FEELS STUCK AT THE TOP AND GRINDS AND PULSATES EVEN THOUGH MY BRAKES ARE GOOD. I'VE HAD MY SPEED SENSORS REPLACED TWICE , PROBLEM STILL ONGOING. I HAVE TO PUSH WITH ALL MY WEIGHT FOR THE BRAKES TO "BREAK THROUGH" WHAT EVER ITS STUCK ON AND WORK, THEN THEY LOCK UP. THAT'S WHEN THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON, THEN I KNOW THE ABS IS NOT TRYING TO WORK AND MY BRAKES WILL STOP ME. I'VE ALMOST CRASHED INTO THINGS TOO MANY TIMES. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX THAT LEAKS WATER INTO THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT WHENEVER IT RAINS OR VEHICLE GOES THROUGH CAR WASH. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL GALLONS AND IT SLOSHES AROUND AND SATURATES THE CARPET IN THE BACK FLOORBOARD. GM HAS A BULLETIN 2198426 WHEREAS IT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AT THE FACTORY AND WATER WILL COLLECT IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT BUT WILL NOT FIX UNLESS THE CUSTOMER(ME) PAYS. I CAN SMELL THE MOLD AND MILDEW IN MY VEHICLE AND FEEL THIS CAN ONLY BE BAD FOR MY HEALTH BECAUSE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT CONTINUOUS MOLD REGENERATION. I HAVE TALKED TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND CALLED GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY TO FIX. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND ALL YEARS BETWEEN 2005 AND 2007 ARE LISTED AND MANY MANY COMPLAINTS. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX AND I AM PROBLEMS WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. CHEVY SAYS IT NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN GO BAD. I HAVE READ ALOT OF REPORTS THAT MANY PEOPLE IS HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. ALSO THAT TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ALSO DISABLES ITSELF WHEN THIS OCCURS. *TR
THE CENTER BEARING ON MY DRIVESHAFT BROKE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED BUT IN GOOD CONDITION. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING WITH MY VEHICLE TO CAUSE THE BEARING TO BREAK. I SIMPLY MADE A TURN AND THAT IS WHEN I NOTICED THE NOISE AND THAT IT WAS DRIVING HORRIBLY. AS I TRAVELED A FEW MORE FEET DOWN THE ROAD IT JUST GOT WORSE. I TOOK IT INTO A CHEVY DEALER AND I AM CURRENTLY AWAITING ON REPAIR. *CN
I OWN A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR-BEFORE AND AFTER WARRANTY. MOST RECENTLY, I HAD TO PAY OVER 1600.00 TO HAVE MY HEAD GASKETS REPLACED/REPAIRED. I AM STILL WAITING TO SEE IF DIFFERENT GASKETS ARE CRACKED AND WILL NEED REPAIR. I HAVE HEARD FROM NUMEROUS REPAIRS SHOPS AND ONLINE SOURCES, THAT THE HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS WITH THE CHEVY EQUINOX WERE KNOWN BEFORE BEING PUT OUT FOR SALE. MY CAR OVERHEATED ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOCKED UP. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I WAS THANKFULLY ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THESE ISSUES COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF CHEVY WOULD HAVE FIXED THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO SELLING. THERE IS NO REASON WHY A FOUR YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD REQUIRE THIS MUCH WORK. *TR
OVER HEATING. HEAT BLOWING HOT AND COLD AND IGNITION SWITCH ISSUES
HAVE A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX. HAVING ISSUE WITH STARTING THE VEHICLE. WILL START OK SOME TIMES AND OTHERS ITS A BEAR TO START. HAVE HAD TO PRESS ON GAS PEDDLE TO GET STARTED. I HAVE TAKEN BACK TO A COUPLE OF GARAGES AND HAVE HAD INJECTORS CLEANED AND A COMPLETE TUNE UP ON THE VEHICLE. AND STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH TRYING TO START IT UP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 VEHICLE TO WORK NOTICED A LOT OF SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE FRONT OF STEERING WHEEL. HAD THE VEHICLE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING PARTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT SPEEDS UNDER 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL INTO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY FOUND THE TRANSMISSION MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. REPAIRS WERE MADE UNDER THE CONTACTS FACTORY WARRANTY. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE UTILIZING THE CRUISE CONTROL MECHANISM, HE TAPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHUT OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WOULD NOT DEACTIVATE. HE CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND MOMENTS LATER, THE CRUISE DISENGAGED. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE CRUISE CONTROL MECHANISM. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HIS VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000.
ACCIDENT OF CHEVY EQUINOX IN THE HOV LANE OF SOUTHBOUND 405 FREEWAY HITTING THE HOV K-RAIL AND TURNING ONTO ITS SIDE. EQUINOX WAS TOTALED NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED FRONT OR SIDE UPON IMPACT. REPORTED TO GM, NO ACTION TAKEN BY GM. *TR
2005 CHEVY EQUINOX DRIVE SHAFT BEARING WORE DOWN, VEHICLE NEVER SHOOK. THERE WAS A DRAGGING NOISE I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC, HE DROVE IT, IT RAN SMOOTH, HE LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT 6 INCHES IN ALL DIRECTIONS. NOW HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE DRIVE SHAFT. *TR
HOPEFULLY I CAN FIND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM WITH MY WIFE'S 2005 EQUINOX. I BELIEVE THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH WATER LEAKING AROUND THE LUGGAGE RACK ALL EQUINOXES , THE SPARE TIRE AREA FILLS UP WITH WATER AND RUNS OVER THE FLOORBOARD WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES I HAVE CONTACTED VARIOUS PEOPLE WITH NO RESULTS. EXCEPT THAT IT'S MY PROBLEM AND WILL COST $800.00 TO REPAIR. THIS SUMMER I NOTICED THAT THE INTERIOR WINDOWS ON MY WIFE'S CAR WERE FOGGING UP THE CARPET IN THE BACK SEAT WAS WET. I THOUGHT MY DAUGHTER LEFT THE WINDOWS DOWN, THEN ONE DAY MY DAUGHTER HIT THE BRAKES HARD ONE DAY AND 5 GALLONS OF WATER ROLLED FROM THE BACK SEAT TO THE FIREWALL. WHEN THEY GOT HOME I REMOVED THE TRUNK AREA COVERS AND FOUND 2 TO 3 GALLONS OF WATER IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL .REMOVED THE WATER AND AIR DRIED THE CARPET . NOW EVERY TIME IT RAINS THE AREA FILLS UP AND I REMOVE IT , THIS HAS BEEN A WET YEAR. REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE PRIORITY CHEVY DEALER ON MILITARY HIGHWAY AND VARIOUS EMAILS TO GM /CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE ONLINE, TALKED TO WAYNE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND BILLY BOYLE IN THE BODY SHOP AT PRIORITY CHEVY. THEY BOTH TOLD ME THEY NEVER HEARD OF A PROBLEM WITH LEAKING INTO THE SPARE TIRE AREA ON 2005 EQUINOX. WAYNE SAID THEY DON'T DO WATER REPAIRS AND REFERRED ME TO WALT'S WATERWORKS IN CHESAPEAKE FOR THE REPAIRS, WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY SAID THEY ARE BOOKED 2 WEEKS OUT AND THAT THEY HAD TWO EQUINOXES IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME ISSUE, THE MAIN REASON FOR GOING TO PRIORITY CHEVY , THEY PERFORMED A REPAIR TO THE CAR LAST YEAR AFTER A COLLISION MY WIFE WAS IN . THEY REPAIRED THE REAR BUMPER AREA AND DIDN'T INFORM ME OF ANY WATER PROBLEMS THEN. MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR TO BILLY ON THE 22 DEC 09 AT 1600 TO LET HIM LOOK AT IT THE AREA, I REPORTED THIS TO CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE , I WORKED WITH CARLOS ( 1-800-222-1020, / 866-962-2868 ,SERVICE REQUEST # 71-787470750) THERE UNTIL HE PASSED IT UP TO HIS REGIONAL MANAGER WHO CALLED ME ON CHRISTMAS EVE TO TELL ME THAT. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IN ORDER TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON HE HAD TO DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE IDLING THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AS IT WOULD STALL. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 50-60 MPH THE TEMPERATURE AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. SHE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL GAS STATION. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE THERMOSTAT FAILED, BECAUSE IT WAS LOCATED NEAR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 60,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIVE INTO SAFE MODE AND SLOW DOWN TO 10 MPH. THE TRACTION LIGHT, A GREEN ENGINE AND AN ORANGE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DECREASE IN SPEED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A CAR WASH. THE DEALER THOUGHT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY WATER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE WIRING HARNESS, BUT THAT REPAIR DID NOT WORK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTINUE WORKING ON THE FAILURE, BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78000.
CARRIER BEARING IS BAD ON MY SUV. CURRENTLY, IT ONLY MAKES AN ANNOYING NOISE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. OTHER REPORTS ON THE INTERNET NOTED THEM FALLING OFF OR NEEDING REPLACEMENT. INTERNET REPORTS THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH HAS CAUSED A NATIONAL BACKORDER. THIS APPEARS TO BE TOO COMMON OF A PROBLEM TO NOT INDICATE A RECALL. *TR
I OWN A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX. THE FIRST WEEK IN OCTOBER, I NOTICED MY FLOOR BOARDS WERE VERY DAMP. ON OCTOBER 30, 2009, I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AND FOUND ALMOST 2' OF STANDING WATER IN THE FRONT DRIVER/PASSENGER AND BACK PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS. THE FLOOR BOARD HAD BEEN WET IN THE PAST, BUT NEVER TO THIS EXTENT. WE HAD SEVERAL DAYS OF RAINFALL THAT ACCUMULATED OVER 10". AS OF MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND, MY VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AS FOLLOWS; A SEAM UNDER THE LUGGAGE RACK THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY WELDED AND IS ALLOWING ANY WATER TO LEAK IN TO THE D PILLAR OF MY VEHICLE AND IS COLLECTING IN BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR BOARDS AND SURFACING THROUGH THE CARPET. THIS IS NOT A 'WEAR AND TEAR' SITUATION; THIS IS A STRUCTURAL PROBLEM THAT HAPPENED ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE DURING THE MANUFACTURING OF THIS VEHICLE. MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE BEEN BREATHING IN BLACK MOLD AND MILDEW DUE TO THIS DEFECT OVER SEVERAL MONTHS IF NOT YEARS. THE SEAM NEEDS TO BE WELDED PROPERLY AND THE CARPET NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. THERE IS BLACK MOLD VISIBLE. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND MEANS FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN. I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE EVERY DAY TO AND FROM WORK. I EXPERIENCE HEAD ACHES EVERY SINGLE DAY AND FEAR THAT BEING IN THE SMALL AREA OF MY VEHICLE WITH ALL OF THIS BLACK MOLD IS THE PRIMARY SOURCE. GENERAL MOTORS IS REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 AND NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS NOT WEAR AND TEAR, THIS IS A STRUCTURAL PROBLEM FROM THE DAY THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM EQUINOX OWNERS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, SATURATED FLOOR BOARDS AND SEVERAL INCHES OF STANDING WATER IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT. GENERAL MOTORS NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND WE SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WITH THE BELIEF IT WAS MADE WITH GENERAL MOTORS TOP QUALITY AND SERVICE AND IT IS CLEARLY A MISTAKE ON THEIR PART. *TR
IT WAS RAINING, TRAFFIC AHEAD WAS COMING TO A STOP AS I WAS BRAKING TO A COMPLETE STOP MY 2005 EQUINOX CHEVROLET WAS REAR END BY A FORD MUSTANG, PUSHING ME INTO THE HONDA PILOT IN FRONT OF ME. MY AIRBAG DID NOT INFLATE NOR DEPLORE, BUT MY VEHICLE SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT & THE PILOT I WAS PUSHED INTO SUSTAINED BACK DAMAGE AS WELL. MY VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTAL LOSS BY THE LIABLE INSURANCE COMPANY UNITRIN. *TR
STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. THE DRIVERS SEAT FAILED TO STAY UPRIGHT WITH A 40 MPH COLLISION FROM BEHIND. THE STATIONARY VEHICLE, THE ONE WITH THE SEAT THAT FAILED, IS A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX. THE VEHICLE THAT REAR-ENDED THE EQUINOX WAS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. *TR
I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE MY 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX PURCHASED IN FEBRUARY 2005 WHICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY CRANE CHEVROLET IN CLIFTON NJ HAS NOW HAVE A BLOWN HAD GASKET AND INTAKE PROBLEM - I CALLED THE DEALER FOR A ONE TIME GOODWILL ADJUSTMENT AND ASKED FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE- AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO HAVE THIS CAR TOWED TO THEM - BUT THEY CANNOT MAKE PROMISES TO FIX OR REPAIR OR EVEN PAY PART OF THE COSTS- I HAVE DONE RESEARCH VIA GOGGLE AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM - PLS HELP ME- POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION- THE REPAIR IS 1650.00 - I INITIALLY LEASED THIS CAR THEN DECIDED TO PURCHASE IT- I COULD NOT AFFORD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 EQUINOX WITH 94000 MILES THAT STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP THEY FOUND THE CENTER CARRIER BEARING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, HOWEVER, THERE ARE NONE AVAILABLE! I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE TOO DANGEROUS NOW AND CAN'T GET A PART FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 EQUINOX. HE STATED THAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. HE HEARD A PECULIAR NOISE IN THE VEHICLE AFTER THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000. UPDATED 11/12/09 *CN THE WHEEL BEARING AND DRIVESHAFT WERE REPLACED AS WELL. UPDATED 11/16/09
2005 EQUINOX WITH 73,200 MILES. PURCHASED USED/GM CERTIFIED 11/2008 IN ILLINOIS. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL SHIMMIED AND WOULD NOT BUDGE AS IF IT WAS STUCK. HAD TO PUMP IT MULTIPLE TIMES AND USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO HALT VEHICLE. AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME "UNSTUCK" THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX FAILS TO START SOMETIMES. IT TURNS OVER LIKE IT WANTS TO START BUT NOTHING. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND THEY CAN'T SEEM TO PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. STEPPING ON THE GAS WILL USUALLY GET THE CAR TO FINALLY START BUT NOT ALWAYS. IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE OFTEN. THE BATTERY, STARTER, ETC HAS BEEN CHECKED AND THEY'RE FINE. 2005 EQUINOX, 70,000 MILES, STARTED OVER HEATING, TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HE STATED IT WAS A BLOW HEAD GASKET, COST MIN OF $2000.00. I CALLED GM AND NOTIFIED THEM OF THE PROBLEM, THEY ASKED ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO A GM DEALER AND THEY WOULD DIAGNOSE AND SEE IF GM COULD HELP. THE CAR SAT AT THE GM DEALER FOR 3WEEKS AND THEN GM STATED THEY DON'T HELP WITH ANY REPAIR COSTS. THE DEALER WOULD NOT RELEASE MY BROKEN CAR TO ME UNTIL I PAID $100.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS, WHICH I ALREADY KNEW, AND GM CORP. WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSIS WHEN THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SENT ME THERE! GM KNEW ABOUT THE DEFECT IN THE HEAD GASKETS ON THE 2005 EQUINOX, THEY KNEW THE HEAD GASKET WOULD ONLY LAST FOR 3-5YEARS. THEY ARE NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT OR HELPING IN ANYWAY THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS. I HAVE A BROKEN CAR I CANNOT PAY TO FIX AND I STILL OWE A YEAR AND A HALF LEFT ON MY NOTE. I AM PAYING $507.00 PER MONTH ON MY NOTE FOR A BROKEN CAR! *TR
MY WIFE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A VIBRATION AROUND 55MPH (2005 CHEVY EQUINOX). I CRAWLED UNDER THE CAR AND NOTICE SOME TYPE OF SUPPORT ON THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS BROKEN. I FOUND OUT THAT IT IS CALLED THE CENTER SUPPORT BEARING. I CALLED ALL KINDS OF DEALERSHIPS ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE EARE FEW OF THEM OUT THERE. AND THOSE THAT ARE OUT THERE THE DEALERS ARE NOT RELEASING. THE CAR HAS ALMOST 56000 MILES ON IT AND WE CAN NOT GET THE PART. GM SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I FIND IT KIND OF ODD THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. I OWN A 2005 CHEVY EQUINOX: THE CAR STARTED SHAKING WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. SEE STOP AT A NEAR BY SERVICE STATION TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CENTER SUPPORT CARRIER BEARING, WHICH HOLDS THE DRIVESHAFT IN PLACE. WE CONTACTED SEVERAL CHEVY DEALERS FOR THE PART AND WERE INFORMED THAT THIS PARTICULAR CARRIER BEARING IS OUT OF STOCK, ON BACK ORDER AND NONE WERE AVAILABLE IN THE COUNTRY. THEY PUT US ON A LIST TO HAVE ON ORDERED. I WAS TOLD NOT TO EXPECT IT UNTIL SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER. THIS CAR IS NOW IMMOBILIZED. APPARENTLY, THERE ARE SEVERAL CHEVY EQUINOX'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, WHICH NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL PUT INTO EFFECT IMMEDIATELY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX NEEDS A NEW DRIVE SHAFT CARRIER BEARING. THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHICH IS TO PERFORM THE REPAIR STATED THAT THIS BEARING IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND COULD TAKE BETWEEN 3 WEEKS TO 3 MONTHS FOR A REPLACEMENT BEARING. THE DEALERSHIP, THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY AND GM WILL NOT AUTHORIZE A LOANER CAR. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS BEARING IS USED ON MANY TYPES OF GM VEHICLES AND THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH LEAD TO THE PART SHORTAGE. MY CONCERN IS THAT SOMEONE WILL NOT REALIZE THAT DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE SHAFT IS OCCURRING ' POSSIBLY CREATING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HIS LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75000.

SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, IN WHICH A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE REAR CARRIER BEARING WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER UNTIL DECEMBER; THEREFORE, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 60,000.
THE IGNITION ON MY VEHICLE LITERALLY EATS MY KEY. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY KEY SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE EVENTUALLY KEY WON'T START VEHICLE. ALSO AFTER WEAR OF NEW KEY, THE KEY COMES OUT OF IGNITION WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. *TR

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $1,300; HOWEVER, THE NECESSARY PART WAS ON BACKORDER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,900 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
FRONT AND BACK WINDOWS FOG UP AND DEFROST DOES NOTHING. VISIBILITY IS SEVERELY LIMITED AND THIS CREATES VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. NOTHING HELPS TO ALLEVIATE THE ISSUE. I HAVE TRIED WIPING THE WINDSHIELD, CLEANING IT, ALCOHOL, RAIN X, DEFROST, HOT AIR, COLD AIR, WINDOWS DOWN, WINDOWS UP, SUNROOF HALFWAY OPEN, DOING BACK FLIPS AND NOTHING HELPS. BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS. HAD NUMEROUS REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY STARTING 3 MONTHS, 3,500 MILES AFTER I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT IN 2005 AND HAVE SPENT CLOSE TO $8,500 ON REPAIRS AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 50,000. TRANSMISSION DROPPED, A/C REPAIRED 2X, SOLENOIDS & SENSORS REPLACED, WINDSHIELD WIPER LEAK, RADIATOR REPLACED 2X, STRUTS, CALIPERS, NOW, AMONGST ALL THE OTHER ISSUES I'VE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE, THE A/C-HEAT KNOB NO LONGER TURNS, GLOVE BOX LID JUST FELL DOWN ONE DAY B/C THE LATCH SUDDENLY BROKE, HAVE TO GET MY BRAKE CALIPERS & ANOTHER WHEEL HUB REPLACED FOR THE 4TH TIME, WATER STILL LEAKS THROUGH THE MAP LIGHTS, I COULD GO ON. *TR
2005 CHEVY EQUINOX LS. CAN TAKE KEY OUT OF IGNITION WHILE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. I'M AFRAID THE KEY COULD FALL OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP. OR, IF IN AN ACCIDENT, THE KEY FALL OUT WHILE THE MOTOR IS RUNNING AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TURN OFF THE MOTOR, WHICH COULD RESULT IN FIRE. HAD THE KEY REPLACED ONCE, ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO. IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, SO I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN TAMPERING OR REPLACEMENT WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. GM'S SOLUTION IS GO TO DEALER. DEALERS SOLUTION IS REPLACE KEY. OBVIOUSLY REPLACING KEY IS NOT A LONG TERM SOLUTION NOR ONE THAT FIXES THE PROBLEM. IT IS, HOWEVER, AND EXPENSIVE ONE THAT COULD BE IS FATAL IF NOT FIXED IN TIME. IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE EXTRAORDINARY. I HAVE DRIVEN FOR 42 YEARS AND OWNED MANY, MANY CARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A KEY BECAUSE I CAN PULL IT OUT OF THE IGNITION. NOW, IT APPEARS I'LL HAVE TO DO IT EVERY YEAR. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET EQUINOX WITH 48K MILES ON IT. RECENTLY I BEGAN HEARING AND FEELING A THUMPING BELOW ME. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND LEARNED THE DRIVE SHAFT CENTER BEARING IS SHOT. DEALER TOLD ME THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN AS THE DRIVE SHAFT COULD FALL AT ANY TIME CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FLIP OR ROLL OVER. IF THAT IS NOT BAD ENOUGH HE ALSO TOLD ME THE PART IS UNAVAILABLE AND IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. WE'VE BEEN WAITING OVER A WEEK NOW AND THE DEALER IS SAYING HE DOESN'T SEE ANY CHANCE OF HAVING THE PART IN THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO! I SEE ANOTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINT HERE AND ACCORDING TO THE SALES PERSON WHO SOLD THE CAR, THE PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED BY GM DUE TO NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH IT. CLEARLY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER TO DETERMINE IF GM IS WORKING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH AN APPROPRIATE SENSE OF URGENCY. *TR

THERE IS NO NOISE OR GRINDING COMING FROM THEM, AND NO BRAKE LIGHT LIT.THIS HAS HAPPENED 3X IN LAST 2 WEEKS. MADE AN APPT TODAY WITH MECHANIC FOR THURSDAY. JUST NOW THE ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT LIT UP. *TR
