TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD A CRACK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 78,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. UPON ENTERING AND STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FAILING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,435.
WHITE PAINT BEGAN PEELING OFF BACK RIGHT CORNER OF VEHICLE OVERNIGHT. WHEN PARKED, PAINT WAS FINE- NEXT MORNING IT WAS COMPLETELY PEELED. NO VANDALISM OCCURRED. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH- THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2008 MODEL.
RECENTLY, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR ELECTRIC WINDOW AND DOOR LOCK, NOT FUNCTIONING AT ALL UNLESS I PUSH THE DOOR OPENED. THIS WEEKEND THE WINDOW AND DOOR LOCK QUIT WORKING ALL TOGETHER. SINCE I HAVE AN ELECTRICAL BACKGROUND, I STARTED TROUBLESHOOTING THE PROBLEM. AFTER 20 MINUTES I FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM TO BE COMPLETELY BROKEN WIRES THAT ARE PART OF THE WIRING HARNESS RIGHT BEFORE IT GOES THROUGH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND PROTECTED BY A RUBBER BOOT/SLEEVE . ALMOST ALL WIRES THAT ARE PART OF THE WIRING HARNESS AT THIS LOCATION WERE EITHER BROKEN AS I MENTIONED OR THE INSULATION WAS SO BRIDLE AND CRACKED THAT THE COPPER WIRE STRANDS WERE EXPOSED. I WOULD NOT EXPECT A VEHICLE BARELY OVER 50,000 MILES TO HAVE WIRES THAT ARE IN A LOCATION WHERE THEY ARE NOT EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES, TO BE IN A CONDITION LIKE THIS. I TOOK A COUPLE OF PICTURES TO SUPPORT WHAT I AM WRITING. AS IT RELATES TO SAFETY AND BEING THAT I WORK IN THE ELECTRICAL FIELD, THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED AN ELECTRICAL FIRE HAZARD, IF THE EXPOSED WIRES EVER COME IN CONTACT WITH CHASSIS GROUND. *TR
THE PAINT ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE IS PEELING OFF. IT ISN'T HAPPENING A LITTLE AT A TIME. I WALKED OUT TO LEAVE ONE DAY AND AN ENTIRE STRIP DOWN THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS MISSING, ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE METAL. 2 WEEKS LATER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID THE EXACT SAME THING. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL BODY SHOP AND THEY SAID MY EQUINOX WAS NOT THE FIRST ONE THEY HAD SEEN DO THIS AND IT WAS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE PAINT IS BUBBLED AND WAS NEVER PUT ON RIGHT. I CALLED CHEVY'S CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND WAS SENT TO A LOCAL CERTIFIED CHEVY DEALER TO BE REVIEWED. THE SERVICE MANAGER DEEMED IT A MANUFACTURE DEFECT BUT THE AREA GM CLAIMS BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF PAINT WARRANTY, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. MY CAR IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD, WITH ONLY 130,000 MILES. PAINT SHOULD NOT BE COMING OFF LIKE THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE POWER STEERING RESUMED AFTER THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. STABILITRAK LIGHT AND WARNING SOUND HAS COME ON A FEW TIMES FOR NO RHYME OR REASON. SOME TIMES WILL SHAKE VEHICLE AS IT GOES DOWN THE ROAD AFTERWARDS. ALSO, WHEN PLUGGED IN AUXILIARY CORD FOR IPOD, SPARKS FLEW OUT FROM RADIO CONTROL STATION AND CAR DIED AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. MANAGED TO PULL OFF ROAD AND SAT FOR TEN MINUTES. RESTARTED CAR AND DROVE TO SAFE LOCATION AND HAD SOME ONE PICK ME UP. NEXT DAY, WENT TO PICK UP CAR AND NO ISSUES. CAR IS BECOMING UNRELIABLE WITH NOT ONLY THESE ISSUES BUT PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS I HAVE FILED WITH YOU. SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THESE TYPE ISSUES, ESPECIALLY SAFETY ONES, THIS SOON. CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 120000 MILES. *TR

THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR GOES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT AND THE WEIGHT OF THE PASSENGER DOES NOT MATTER. THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT ALSO FLASHES INTERMITTENTLY.
DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT OPERATE WITH REMOTE AND WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH REMOTE. WHEN VEHICLE IS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK, AND WHEN VEHICLE PLACED IN PARK DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT ACCELERATOR SENSOR AND THROTTLE BODY SENSOR HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE GEARS BECAME DIFFICULT TO SHIFT AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,782.
PAINTING FALLING OFF METAL ON PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DOES NOT TURN ON WHEN PERSON IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. I'VE HAD PEOPLE UP TO 250 POUNDS SITTING ON PASSENGER SIDE AND IT STILL WON'T TURN ON AIRBAG. THIS IS A VERY HIGH RISK OF INJURY OR FATALITY TO PASSENGER IF AIR BAG DOES NOT DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT. SO MANY OTHERS ARE SAYING SAME THING HOW IS THIS NOT ON A RECALL LIST YET OR AT LEAST BEING INVESTIGATED.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE MILEAGE ON THE TIMING CHAIN WAS NOT A FACTOR WHEN DETERMINING THE REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
SMELLED INCREASING GAS SMELL. MY MECHANIC FOUND A FUEL LEAK, PULLED THE GAS TANK AND HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AS THE PLASTIC SUPPLY/RETURN HAD CRACKED AND WAS LEAKING FUEL. MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT HE THOUGHT THERE WAS A RECALL IN EFFECT FOR THIS PROBLEM. TO DATE, I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED BY CHEVY OF A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, YET I CAN SEE ONLINE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING FREQUENTLY. I FOUND GM'S CAMPAIGN # 12190 BUT NOT SURE IT IT COVERS MY YEAR AND MODEL. IT WAS OVER $600 TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP!! *TR
THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR ONLY WORKED INTERMITTENTLY--THE SENSOR WASN'T RECOGNIZING WHEN A PASSENGER WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT SO WE WERE VERY CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG WOULDN'T DEPLOY IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT. AS A RESULT, WE TOOK IT TO TWO SEPARATE MECHANICS (INCLUDING ONE GM DEALERSHIP) AND IT ENDED UP COSTING OVER $1000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE ON 11/10/14 TO DOCUMENT THE CONCERN AND TO REQUEST FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE PROBLEM BUT NOTHING WAS AVAILABLE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHEVY ESPECIALLY IF IT IS HAPPENING ON MANY VEHICLES. *TR
AIR BAG SENSOR FOR FRONT SEAT PASSENGER TURNS THE AIR BAG ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, EVEN WITH AN ADULT PASSENGER (OVER 100 LBS) IN THE FRONT SEAT. THIS COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG NOT TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED ON SEPT. 15, 2014. IT IS THE SPORT EDITION OF THE EQUINOX. EVERY TIME I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ANY SPEED THERE IS A RUBBING SOUND BETWEEN THE STEERING COLUMN & JUST BEHIND THE AIRBAG ON STEERING WHEEL & NEAR THE IGNITION SWITCH. I ASSUME IF THERE IS ENOUGH RUBBING FRICTION IT COULD AFFECT THE AIRBAG OR IGNITION SWITCH TO CAUSE A FIRE OR AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. I TOOK CAR TO ROGER DEAN CHEVY DEALER IN CAPE CORAL, FL & THEY SAID THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR SUCH A PROBLEM. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS RUBBING FRICTION & KNOW THAT GM HAS HAD BOTH IGNITION ISSUES & AIRBAG ISSUES WHICH THIS RUBBING SOUND IS NEAR BOTH OF THESE COMPONENTS. *TR

1.)THIS MORNING, I STARTED MY CAR, IT STALLED OUT, LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO START. I SWEPT THAT UNDER THE RUG. AFTER WORK, I STARTED MY CAR AND IT STALLED AGAIN WHILE TRYING TO START. AS A MATTER OF FACT IT WAS AS IF SOMEONE HAD GOTTEN UNDER THE HOOD AND DISCONNECTED/RECONNECTED MY BATTERY. I HAD TO RESET MY CLOCK AND RADIO STATIONS.2.)ALSO, WHILE I AM COMPLAINING, I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE MY BRAKE LIGHTS AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY JUST SAID "YOU DO KNOW YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE BULBS EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE"---YES! BUT NOT SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE YEAR. 3.)THERE IS ALSO MOISTURE IN THE HEADLIGHTS--EVEN AFTER THE DEALERSHIP "FIXING IT". 4.) MY KEY FOB DOES NOT LOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. WIFE DRIVING CAR AT SLOW SPEED IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD (APPROX. 20 MPH); STEERING BECAME VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE, SEVERE FRONT END VIBRATION, AND STABILITRAK LIGHT CAME ON. CLEARED UP AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES. SINCE MID-AUG, MY EQUINOX HAS BEEN RANDOMLY/INTERMITTENTLY LOSING ENGINE POWER (AS WELL AS STEERING/BRAKING) FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. THANKFULLY, WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, (NOW AT LEAST WEEKLY) IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC. WHEN CHECKING SERVICE CODES, THE INDICATED PROBLEM SYSTEMS ARE "SECONDARY IGNITION CIRCUIT" AND "STABILITRAK." I DO NOT FEEL THE CAR IS SAFELY DRIVABLE, BUT MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER CANNOT OFFER ME EVEN A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT EARLIER THAN DEC 1. *TR
THIS CAR HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE I GOT HER. SHE HAS HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS FROM STEREO, BRAKES, MOTOR AND NOW THE GAS TANKS LEAKS. WE HAD RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER MONTHS AGO STATING THAT THIS WAS A RECALL BUT IF YOU DO NOT SMELL FUEL, THEN DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. WELL, NOW WE DO AND I HAVE CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD THAT THEIR SYSTEM WAS DOWN AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL US BACK. THEY ALSO TOLD US THAT WITHOUT THE RECALL LETTER THEY COULDN'T HELP US. I AM LOOKING FOR THE LETTER BUT SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE THIS ON RECORD? THAT WAS OVER A WEEK AGO AND STILL NO ANSWER. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND STILL NO RESPONSE. I HAD TO START REPLACING HEAD LIGHTS DUE TO MOISTURE IN MY HEAD LIGHTS. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. I HAVE MENTION THIS TO CHEVY SEVERAL TIMES WHEN WE HAD THE CAR SERVICE. THE RESPONSE WAS THIS IS NORMAL. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. THEY WANTED ME TO PAY HALF OF THE COST. I REFUSED. THEY SAID THAT BECAUSE IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I PRAY ONE NIGHT THAT I'M NOT DRIVING AND GET INTO A ACCIDENT DUE TO LIGHT FAILURE. THIS SHOULD BE RECALL TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS AND ADDED EXPENSE DUE TO CHEVY NEGLIGENCE. I HAVE OWN MANY CARS AND NEVER HAD MOISTURE IN MY HEAD LIGHTS. I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE CORRECTED BY CHEV. I'M NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE DATES FROM LAST YEAR, WHEN I BROUGHT IT UP TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP. CAR FAILED TO START AFTER A HARD OVERNIGHT RAIN STORM THE NIGHT BEFORE, THEN STARTED AFTER A 15 MINUTE WAIT FOR THE AAA. IT HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT A LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. REPEATEDLY TURNED KEY TO START POSITION, BUT NO POWER TO THE STARTER. HAD OBD 2 DIAGNOSTIC BUT NOT CODES FOUND, JUST WAIT TO SEE IF HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG INDICATOR MALFUNCTION. WHEN A PASSENGER OCCUPIES THE FRONT SEAT, THE AIR BAG INDICATES IT IS "OFF", WHICH RAISES A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN I WILL NOT ALLOW MY DAUGHTER OR WIFE TO OCCUPY THE SEAT UNLESS THE SYSTEM REGISTERS A PASSENGER. EITHER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING OR "BOUNCING" IN THE SEAT SOMETIMES WILL INDICATE THE AIR BAG IS ON; A VERY FRUSTRATING AND UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR
AIR BAG DOES NOT STAY ON! DRIVING OVER 20 MPH AIR BAG DID NOT TURN ON AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT REMAINED OFF. A PERSON WEIGHING ABOUT 200 LBS WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND AIR BAG WAS OFF WHILE CAR WAS ON, IN DRIVE, AND MOVING. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY HAZARD. IF ACCIDENT DID OCCUR AND AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY COULD BE FATAL. NEEDS TO FIXED! *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2008 EQUINOX IN MARCH 2010; THERE WAS SLIGHT MOISTURE BUILDING UP IN BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES; NOW MAJOR MOISTURE. AFTER REPLACING BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND MULTIPLE BULBS, THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE WENT OUT IN JULY 2014. I TOOK TO A DEALERSHIP AND GM PART WAS REPLACED FOR $350 (HAD WORK DISCOUNT). MY RIGHT SIDE IS BUILDING UP WITH MOISTURE AND WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO BE REPLACED ONCE MY HEADLIGHT GOES OUT. THIS IS A KNOWN GM ISSUE; HOWEVER, GM DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR A POORLY MANUFACTURED HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IN THE EQUINOX. *TR
BOTH HEADLIGHTS CONTAIN MOISTURE DUE TO FAULTY SEALS. BOTH HEADLIGHTS NEED REPLACING ON A MINIMUM OF TWICE A YEAR. ADDITIONALLY, BREAK AND/OR TAIL LIGHTS SEEM TO FAIL AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR AS WELL.

BEGINNING LAST YEAR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR BEGAN TO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I HAD THE SERVICE CODES CHECKED AND THERE WAS NO CODE FOR THE REPEATED WARNING LIGHT TO SERVICE AIR BAG. NOW THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME WORSE. WHEN PASSENGERS OF ANY WEIGHT ARE IN THE SEAT THE INDICATOR AND SERVICE LIGHTS WILL COME ON RANDOMLY. MOST TIME MY FAMILY IS NOT PROTECTED BY THE AIRBAG DUE TO THIS ISSUE. IT APPEARS THE SAME ISSUE HAPPEND TO THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR AND A RECALL WAS DONE. NOT FOR THIS MODEL. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND A SOLUTION CREATED BY CHEVORLET.
WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE STABILITRAK FAILED AND THE CAR IN A POSSESSED MANOR ACCELERATED AND THE BRAKES FAILED PUSHING ME FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC. ONCE I REGAINED SOME CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, THE CAR WAS HOPPING, THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND, AND I COULD NOT GO MORE THAN 25 MILES PER HOUR AND STEERING WAS DIFFICULT. TWO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. 1 WAS AS STABILATRAK REQUIRES SERVICE, THE OTHER WAS REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THE DASH ALSO HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. BECAUSE IT WAS LATE AND THE ISSUE STARTED MAYBE ON 5 MILES FROM HOME, WE TRIED TO CREEP HOME AT 25 MILES PER HOUR. THERE IS NO WARNING THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS GOING TO DO THIS. THIS ALSO HAPPENED ON A ROAD TRIP FROM CHICAGO TO MINNEAPOLIS; HALFWAY THERE WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF AND I LOST STABILITY ALONG WITH MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE. *TR

CHEVROLET STATED THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT FORCED THEM TO RECALL THE 2008 EQUINOX'S. I WISH THAT I HAD GOTTEN THE MAN'S NAME. I ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND THE BBB WAS NOT ABLE TO HELP MY WIFE AND I. I ALSO STATED TO THE BBB THAT IF SOMEONE GETS HURT IN A WRECK DUE TO THE FAULTY PASSENGER AIRBAG, I WOULD BE LOOKING TO THEM FOR ANSWERS. THE ONLY HELP THAT MILTON RUBEN CHEVROLET WOULD GIVE MY WIFE AND I WAS TO GIVE US A DISCOUNT ON A NEW CHEVROLET. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW CAR AT THIS TIME.

PURCHASED A USED CHEVY EQUINOX SPORT 2008 IN AUGUST 2013(8 MONTHS AFTER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY) I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND MY CAR STOPPED GOING FORWARD, SCARY WHEN YOU HAVE 3 KIDS IN THE CAR AND IT JUST STOPS GOING. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF THIS GOING TO HAPPEN. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND CAN'T AFFORD REPAIRS RANGING FROM $1700-3500.
