2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE VEHICLE OPERATION AND SAFETY *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, DUE TO IT RUNNING ROUGH, LOSS OF POWER, AN OVERWHELMING SMELL OF GASOLINE, A STICKY ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR AND AN ATTEMPTED REPAIR OF THE PCM AND THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE TAC. THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE DEFECTS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SEVER RATTLING HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE AS SOON AS IT WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO ACCELERATION AND THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS CONSUMING FAR MORE GASOLINE FUEL THAN NORMAL THE FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS HOWEVER THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AT ANY TIME. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TWO COLLAPSED VALVES INSIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
COLUMBIA, SC-AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH MY IGNITION SWITCH WILL NOT TURN TO THE OFF POSITION SO THAT THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED. I HAVE TO TURN IT BACK TO ON (IT'S NOT NECESSARY TO RESTART THE CAR) AND THEN BACK TO OFF IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE KEY. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING WITHIN A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING MY NEW 2011 EQUINOX. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER APRIL 19, 2011, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM--"UNABLE TO DUPLICATE." THE PROBLEM CONTINUES, LAST OCCURRING 6/25/14. ALSO, DURING THAT SAME VISIT, I HAD REPORTED THAT THE A/C SMELLED LIKE MOLD WHEN I FIRST TURNED IT ON. 6/27/14, IT STILL SMELLS LIKE MOLD. AS WITH THE IGNITION, THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE LATEST ISSUE STARTED AROUND 21,000 MILES. THE ENGINE, WHICH HAD ALWAYS RUN ROUGH (I ATTRIBUTED THIS TO THE 4-CYLINDER ENGINE) BEGAN SHUTTING DOWN WHEN I SLOWED OR STOPPED FOR TRAFFIC LIGHTS. I CALLED MY DEALER AND WAS ASKED WHERE I PURCHASED MY GAS AND TOLD TO GET SOME INJECTOR CLEANER! I THEN GOOGLED MY PROBLEM AND LEARNED THAT MANY OTHERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME SITUATION WITH THEIR 2011 EQUINOXES. I THEN CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A PICKUP AND RODE IN THE WRECKER TO THE DEALER, WHERE I WAS GREETED WITH DISDAIN. I TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO GOOGLE "EQUINOX RECALL" AND READ THE POSTS, AND HE SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL (NOT YET, ANYWAY!) I TOLD HIM I KNEW THAT, BUT HE SHOULD LOOK AT THE MANY COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE. THE NEXT MORNING HE CALLED TO SAY THAT THEY HAD FOUND A PROBLEM, THE SOLENOID VALVE. HE WAS A LOT FRIENDLIER WHEN I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE, HIS MAIN CONCERN BEING THAT I GAVE THE SERVICE DEPT. A GOOD REVIEW! NO APOLOGY FOR TREATING ME LIKE I WAS CRAZY. I PREDICT THAT THE IGNITION AND ENGINE PROBLEMS WITH THE EQUINOX WILL BE GM'S NEXT RECALLS. MAYBE THEY NEED TO ADVISE THEIR SERVICE ADVISORS TO READ THE ONLINE POSTS REGARDING THEIR VEHICLES! *TR
P010 CODE WHEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COMES ON. PROBLEM SINCE ABOUT 3 MONTHS OLD. SOME WERE RECALLED, MINE WAS NOT. ROUGH IDLE, DIES WHEN STOPPING OR TURNING,
OWNED FOR 6 DAYS AND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD HESITATION, STALLING, HARD SHIFT, RPM'S BOUNCE ALL OVER AND IT AUTO SHIFTS ALL OVER THE PLACE, TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE, SMELLS LIKE IT RUNS RICH WHEN STARTED, DOWN SHIFTS GOING THRU THE MIDDLE OF TOWN AT 20 MPH AND THROWS ME FORWARD, SOME SHIFTING HESITATES LIKE IT STICKS IN NEUTRAL TEMPORARILY, HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP CONSTANTLY. GM HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING, I AM ALWAYS TOLD THAT IT IS A PART OR THAT IT IS UPDATES THAT COME FROM GM. PURCHASED MARCH 25, 2011 AND NOT ONE WK WITHOUT PROBLEMS. OUR 2011 EQUINOX HAS JUST NOW STARTED SHOWING SOME "FRICTION" IN THE STEERING MECHANISM WHEN MAKING SLIGHT STEERING CORRECTIONS WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE CONDITION IS MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN STARTING TO TURN LEFT. IT IS BARELY NOTICEABLE AT LOWER SPEEDS BUT CAN BE DETECTED. THE EQUINOX WAS PUT INTO SERVICE IN SEPTEMBER 2010. "FRICTION" IS MY WORD CHOICE; THIS BEING AN ALL ELECTRIC POWER STEERING THE PROBLEM MIGHT WELL BE SOME OTHER CONDITION.
FAILURE 1: WHILE SLOWING AND BRAKING TO MAKE A TURN THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FOR ABOUT 2 TO 3 SECONDS WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE. MILEAGE WAS APPROX. 300. FAILURE 2: AT APPROX. 20 T0 25 MPH I APPLIED MODERATE BRAKING AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I THEN APPLIED FULL HARD PRESSURE AND NOTHING. I THEN RELEASED AND REAPPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE AND IT WORKED JUST IN TIME. IF I WAS AT A HIGHER SPEED I COULD HAVE KILLED A PEDESTRIAN AND THEY WOULD HAVE BLAMED ME AFTER THE COPS VERIFIED BRAKES WORKED FOR THEM. APPROX. MILEAGE 750

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MEMORY SEAT POSITIONS WERE PRESET AND RECOGNIZED HOW TO SET THE SEATS BY THE ELECTRONIC MEMORY KEY FOB WHEN INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE INSERTED HER KEY INTO THE IGNITION, THE MEMORY SEAT WAS SET BASED ON THE OTHER DRIVER'S SAVED SEAT SETTINGS, AND NOT HERS. WHEN THE OTHER DRIVER ENTERED HIS KEY INTO THE IGNITION, THE MEMORY SEAT WOULD MOVE FORWARD TO THE CONTACT'S SAVED SEAT POSITION AND NOT HIS OWN PRE-SETTING. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200. MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE CAR LOST POWER. IT DID START BACK UP AGAIN, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON UNTIL I GOT HOME. I WAS NOT ON A BUSY STREET WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THIS HAPPENED ON A FRIDAY. I HAD IT TO THE DEALER ON MONDAY. THE DEALER DID TRY TO FIND THE PROBLEM, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF AND NOTHING WAS DISCOVERED. *TR
I WAS RECENTLY IN A PRETTY BAD FRONT END VEHICLE ACCIDENT GOING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN I REAR ENDED SOMEONE. MY CAR HAS BEEN TOTALED DO TO THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN THIS ACCIDENT, EVERYONE ONE I HAVE TALKED TO FROM THE TOWING COMPANY TO THE PARAMEDIC ON SEEN SAID THAT IT SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AFTER TWO HOURS. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWELVE TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR EACH OCCURRENCE. THE REPAIRS THAT WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE WERE UNKNOWN BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER EACH REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ON 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX 4 CYLINDER LEAKS AND CONTAMINATES ENGINE OIL WITH FUEL. *TR
TRAVELING 70 MPH DOWN FREEWAY WHEN SUDDENLY MY CEL ILLUMINATED ALONG WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTI SKID LIGHTS. AFTER CAREFULLY DODGING A FEW VEHICLES, I PULLED TO SIDE OF FREEWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND TURNED OFF MY ENGINE FOR A COUPLE MINUTES. RESTARTED AND ENGINE APPEARED TO RUN FINE HOWEVER THE CEL REMAINED ILLUMINATED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GM DEALER AND THEY INDICATED A NEW THROTTLE BODY WAS NEEDED TO REMEDY MY SITUATION TO THE TUNE OF $340.00. THE MONEY PART DOESN'T BOTHER NEAR AS MUCH AS HAVING TO GET TO THE SHOULDER IN HEAVY 70 MPH TRAFFIC. THIS IMPOSED A VERY SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD TO NOT ONLY MYSELF, BUT ALL OCCUPANTS IN MY VEHICLE AT THE TIME.
2011 CHEVY EQUINOX TRANSMISSION AND ELECTRICAL ISSUES. TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING SMOOTHLY AND AT TIMES THE CAR WILL SEEM TO WANT TO DIE OUT. 6600 MILESAND I SEE ONLINE THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I DO NOT WANT MY WIFE TO BREAK DOWN OR GET INTO A CRASH BECAUSE OF THE TRANS NOT ENGAGING. *TR
2011 CHEVY EQUINOX BATTERY FULLY DISCHARGED. CAR HAS 1300 MILES ON IT. CAR WAS IN GARAGE FOR TWO DAYS BEFORE STARTING. DEALERSHIP RECHARGED BATTERY AND DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO INVESTIGATE THIS FURTHER, SALES PERSON DOES NOT RETURN CALLS. GM ONLINE CUSTOMER SERVICE ONLY SENT AUTO REPLY WITHOUT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM AND ON THE REPLY NAMED ME AS "FRANK", NOT MY NAME AT ALL. IT TOOK THREE TRIES TO JUMP START THE CAR. *TR
ON 2/21/11, I WAS OPERATING MY 2010 CHEVY "EQUINOX" ON I-95. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR AND HALF START I BEGAN TO HAVE STEERING PROBLEMS. TRAVELING AT A SUSTAINED SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 70MPH I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STICKING, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE. THE LONGER I TRAVELED, THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE NOTICEABLE. THIS SITUATION CONTINUED FOR AT LEAST FOUR HOURS, UNTIL I LEFT THE INTERSTATE AND ENTERED A SECONDARY HIGHWAY, WHERE THE SPEED WAS SLOWER AND MORE TRAFFIC, WHICH REQUIRED MORE MOVEMENT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS SITUATION KIND OF CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD 26,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN OPERATED IN THIS TYPE OF DRIVING NUMEROUS TIMES. IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO "STICK" AT SLOWER SPEEDS OR IN TRAFFIC. BUT I FEEL IT COULD CATCH AN INDIVIDUAL OFF GUARD, WHO MAY NOT BE AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP (2/22/11) THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM NOR DID THE COMPUTER INDICATE SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET/GMC VIA PHONE AND E-MAIL. THEIR RESPONSE EACH TIME LEFT ME WITH THE IMPRESSION THEY APPRECIATED THE INFORMATION. I'VE INDICATED TO THEM THEY HAVE A SLEEPER WITH THIS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE, THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE OR IF THEY HAD A PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS A PROBLEM "A SLEEPER". AND ACCORDING TO THE WEB I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS A PROBLEM, WHICH COULD LED TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2011 CHEV. EQUINOX ON 1/14/2011 AND THE BATTERY KEEPS GOING DEAD ON ME WHILE IT SITS IN MY GARAGE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW. IT HAS 623 MILES ON IT. I DON'T DRIVE IT EVERY DAY BUT IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN I OPEN THE BACK HATCH AND CLOSE IT. I MAKE SURE IT IS SHUT TIGHT AND ALSO THAT NO LIGHTS ARE LEFT ON. I REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM AND HE SAID TO TAKE IT TO A CHEV. DEALER AND HAVE THEM CHECK THE BATTERY AND ALSO RUN A PERASTATIC DRAW TEST ON IT. THE ONE DEALER I CALLED DID NOT SEEM INTERESTED IN DOING THIS AS HE STATED HE HAD NO OPENINGS EXCEPT THE FOLLOWING WEEK. WHEN I PLANNED ON TAKING IT IN THE BATTERY WAS AGAIN DEAD AND I AM NOW CHARGING IT UP AGAIN. I REALLY WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT IS HAPPENING TO IT. I HAVE A 2006 SILVERADO AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. I ALSO HAD A 2004 BUICK LESABRE THAT GAVE ME THE SAME PROBLEM AS MY EQUINOX. IF THEY WERE NOT DRIVEN EVERY DAY OR SO THE BATTERIES WENT DEAD. NO DEALER COULD FIND THE PROBLEM WITH MY BUICK SO I GOT RID OF IT. ALSO THE EQUINOX SEEMS TO HESITATE BEFORE IT SHIFTS INTO ANOTHER GEAR. *TR

THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR TURNED OFF WHILE A PILLOW WAS POSITIONED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG FUNCTIONED CORRECTLY AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 800. UPDATED 3/14/11*CN THE DEALER SUSPECTED THE SEAT WAS HEAT SENSITIVE. UPDATED 04/25/11
NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DATE OR MILEAGE VEHICLE MESSED UP FIRST TIME. WE BOUGHT IT ON JANUARY 19, 2011, MESSED UP WITHIN FIRST FEW DAYS OF HAVING IT. IT'S HAPPENED TWICE, WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED, BUT IN DRIVE (EX. RED LIGHT), THEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL IT WILL EITHER NOT GO AT ALL, OR BARELY GO AND THEN NOT GO ANY FURTHER. HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT OFF, THEN TURN CAR BACK ON TO MAKE IT WORK RIGHT. TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES, THEY SAY THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, OR ANY LIGHTS AT ALL. CONTACTED GM ALSO, THEY ARE NOT MUCH HELP EITHER, SAY WE HAVE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BEFORE TAKING ANY FURTHER STEPS. DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR, I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN. THEY HAVE BEEN WITH ME BOTH TIMES IT HAS MESSED UP. THE FIRST TIME WE WERE STRANDED BETWEEN TWO LANES OF ON COMING TRAFFIC.
DEAR SIRS, SHIFT 1ST TO 2ND, COMPLETE LOCKUP FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS. AFTER TWO COMPLETE LOCKUPS IN A WEEK, EQUINOX NOW HAS 12000 MILES AND HAS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM EVERY WEEK OR SO. BAD SHIFTS 1ST TO 2ND AND 5TH TO 6TH.INCLUDING SLAM SHIFTS. DELAYS IN SHIFTS AND DOWN SHIFTS, AS MUCH AS REGULAR, 2 TO 4 SECONDS AND BAD ONES FROM 6 TO 8 SECONDS. FOR HARD DOWNSHIFTS( PASSING GEAR) CAR VERY SLUGGISH TO RESPOND. AFTER THOSE FATAL LOCKUPS, NOW HAS INTERMITTENT HARDWARE PROBLEMS. DEALERSHIP,WHERE I BOUGHT IT, THE SALES MANAGER TOLD ME TO TAKE MY CAR ELSEWHERE FOR SERVICE,BECAUSE I DID NOT GIVE HIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT A GOOD SURVEY. GRADE . TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE REAR WINDOWS WERE OPENED, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,717 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000.
SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THIS NEW EQUINOX, THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF AND THEN COME BACK ON AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME AND VARIABLE MILES OF TRAVEL. I INFORMED THE GARAGE WHERE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AND THEY SAID THE LITTLE KNOB ON THE DASH NEEDED TO ADJUSTED. THIS DID NOT WORK. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE TO THREE DIFFERENT GARAGES AND TOLD THEM OF THIS PROBLEM AND TO ENTER IT INTO THE HISTORY OF THIS VEHICLE. NONE OF THEM HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM AND IT IS A SAFETY FACTOR WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE VEHICLE NOW IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.
MY 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX 4 CYLINDER SHIFTS HORRIBLY BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD. IF YOU ACCELERATE TO APPROX. 20 MPH AND REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE GAS THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES AND THEN IT SHIFTS TO 3RD GEAR WITH A JOLT THAT WOULD MAKE YOU THINK YOU WERE HIT FROM BEHIND. WHEN IT DOWN SHIFTS FROM 3RD TO 2ND IT IS LIKE AN ANCHOR WAS THROWN OUT THE BACK. RETURNED IT TO A CHEVY DEALER WHO WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT BUT SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL AND THAT ALL EQUINOX DO IT. THEY HAD THEIR DISTRICT MANAGER CHECK ON IT AND HE SAID THAT CHEVY DESIGNED IT TO DO THAT AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. IT IS GOING BACK AGAIN TOMORROW TO A DIFFERENT DEALER BUT I EXPECT TO HERE THE SAME STORY. WHEN IMPORTS ARE DESIGNING CONSTANT VELOCITY TRANSMISSIONS THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN FEEL SHIFT, WHY WOULD GM DESIGN THEIRS TO JOLT YOU OUT OF YOUR SEAT. GUESS THEY NO LONGER WHAT MY BUSINESS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIO CONTROL FUNCTIONS WERE NOT ACCESSIBLE WHILE DRIVING OR BEING RESTRAINED BY THE SEAT BELT. ENGINE IS USING 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY THOUSAND MILES, I PURCHASED IT FROM WEST CHEVROLET IN ALCOA TN I HAVE BEEN SPENDING LOTS OF MONEY TRYING TO KEEP OIL IN THE ENGINE FOR TWO YEARS. SINCE 7/24/17
