I purchased a 2012 Chevy Equinox in May of 2020, within eight months the water pump went out, after having three sensors within engine failed causing the stabilitrak indicator light started flashing, causing the engine to power down and not allow the vehicle to go over 35mph. Once I was able to take the vehicle to the dealership, I was told that three sensors within the engine went bad. This repair cost $2100 and now the vehicle is excessive having oil consumption issues, oil level indictor warning light is not working, I am constantly placing about 4 QT of oil within my vehicle every other fill up. Prior to having the oil changed within the time frame that is stated I need too.
Excessive oil consumption. Constantly have to add approx 4qts of oil weekly on top of regular oil change. Mechanic stated GM recognized the issue but will not do anything to correct.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact stated that the oil level warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the pistons and the rings needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,900.
Car kept stalling when slowing down on the highway in traffic on beltway from Maryland to home in Virginia. Very dangerous situation. Car was also sluggish when accelerating. Had to drive with two feet one on brake and gas pedal when slowing down to avoid car shutting off completely on the road. Dropped car off at dealer this evening. I checked and did not see any recalls. Can’t locate safety bulletins from Chevy as they are not published. Dealer said would look for any bulletins. Engine light is on. I read others with models from 2011 to 2015 having same issues for Chevy equinox.
JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN OCTOBER OF 2020. HAD AN OIL CHANGE ON OCTOBER 26TH. ON NOVEMBER 25TH MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. NO LEAKING, NO OIL SPOTS UNDER MY PARKING SPACE AND NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. FILLED OIL AND ON FEBRUARY 12TH MY ENGINE OIL WAS COMPLETELY GON. HAD ANOTHER OIL CHANGE AND IT IS NOW MAY 2ND AND I HAVE BOT DRIVEN MORE THAT 1000 MILES SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE YET I HAVE NO OIL AGAIN IN MY CAR AND NOW MY EMGINE IS STALLING OUT WHEN I ACCELERATE STATING MY CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR CIRCUIT (BANK 1) IS BAD WHICH IS DIRECLY LINKED TO RUNNING WITH BAD OR NO OIL.
YESTERDAY WAS PRETTY SCARY MY CAR CUT OFF EVERY 5 MINS WHILE DRIVING I HAD NO CONTROL. I'VE GOTTA EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF FIXED..I WAS DRIVING DOWN GRATIOT & CONNER WHEN IT JUST STOPPED ON ME AT THE GREENLIGHT AS I WAS TURNING. NOW I AM REALLY SCARED TO GET BACK IN IT. I FEEL LIKE GM KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THESE ENGINE/MOTOR AND STILL WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS CRAZY Y'ALL WON'T BE HAPPY UNTIL SOMEONE GET SERIOUSLY HURT. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP IN LEXINGTON KY 6K AND UNDER. I HAD TO CHANGE THE BREAKS AND I WAS UNABLE TO JACK THE CAR UP. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE AUTO SHOP THE FRAME AND ROCKER PANELS ARE RUSTED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS MADE IN CANADA AND I SEEN THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE FRAME IS WEAK. WHAT SHOULD I DO AND IS THE RECALL STILL VALID?
Excessive oil consumption, recall notice received 3/2021. I had been dealing with excessive oil consumption for years and received recall notice from GM about that exact issue in March 2021. Starting 4/26/2021, I have met the excessive oil consumption requirement three times through Bergstrom Chevy in Middleton, WI. The dealership keeps saying I need to demonstrate further excessive oil consumption. Today I called GM and their representative said I needed to submit a claim in order to qualify for the recall. The dealership was given the recall paperwork in April 2021 and did not submit this claim. I am unsure why the recall is not being honored.
MY CAR RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF. IT STUTTERS, STALLS, JERKS, THEN DIES. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. WE HAVE REPLACED THE O2 SENSORS 3 TIMES, MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, EXHAUST MANIFOLD, INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES TWICE, ALTERNATOR, BATTERY TWICE, SPARK PLUG PACKS TWICE, THROTTLE BODY, AND CATALYTIC CONVERTOR. MY CAR STILL STUTTERS, STALLS, ROUGH IDLES, JUMPS WHILE STOPPED AT RED LIGHTS, AND RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN SLOW TO ACCELLERATE AS WELL. I WAS UNAWARE OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE UNTIL THIS WEEKEND. MY CAR SAYS IT IS 40% OIL, IT IS NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE FOR ANOTHER 1000 MILES. AFTER LEARNING ABOUT THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE I CHECKED THE OIL, VIA THE DIPSTICK, AND MY CAR WAS BONE DRY! I NEVER RECEIVED A LOW OIL WARNING. I AM ASSUMING THIS IS WHY MY CAR HAS BEGUN ACTING CRAZY IN THE LAST YEAR. UNFORTUNATELY THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP NEVER INFORMED ME OF ANY OIL ISSUES SO I HAVE HAD TO CONTACT GM DIRECTLY, BECAUSE NOW MY CAR IS AT 126,000 MILES!!!
I'VE BEEN TO PLENTY OF MECHANIC SHOPS AND THEY ALL HAVE SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT THE MOTOR AND THE ENGINE THAT'S IN THESE CARS THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT THE RIGHT ENGINES AND EVERYONE THAT HAVE THESE CARS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE GOTTEN EVERYTHING FIXED AND MY ENGINE IS GOING BAD. I'VE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY ENGINE & OR MOTOR. FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GAVE BEEN ON THEN OUT THE BLUE MY STABILITRAK COMES ON NO ONE COULD FIGURE IT OUT I TOOK IT TO GM THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING BESIDES SPARK PLUGS, OIL CHANGE ,FUEL FLUSH & ENGINE TOP CLEANER NOW THEY SAYING AFTER THE SPARKPLUGS GOT DONE IT CLEARED THAT CODE BUT NOW MY ENGINE IS BAD. I GET OIL CHANGED EVERY MONTH. WHICH MEANS IT'S GETTING TO MUCH OIL.

I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY RURAL ROUTE WHEN I CAME TO A STOP , WENT TO TAKE OFF THE CAR HAD NO POWER. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS VEHICLE 1 MONTH, AND THE CODE SAYS IT IT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE . LUCKILY WE WERE NOT HIT AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS IT KICKS IN AND HAS POWER , NOT VERY SAFE AT ALL .

2012 CHEVORLET EQUINOX WITH 2.4L ENGINE WITH 123,525 MILES HAS MANY SAFETY CONCERNS. AS A RESULT OF THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE, THERE ARE ISSUES THAT AFFECT THE QUALITY OF SAFETY. THIS VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, NEEDS FREQUENT OIL REFILLING (AT LEAST 1QUART/WEEKLY), AND EMITS THE SMELL OF FUMES AND LINGERS WHEN VEHICLE IS ON. I AM NOT ABLE TO HAVE THE CAR ON STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT OR SIMPLY WHILE IN PARK WITHOUT THE OVERWHELMING SMELL OF FUMES. THIS VEHICLE HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON TWO OCCASIONS: FIRST, IT SHUT OFF HALFWAY UP A RAMP LEADING OFF FROM THE HIGHWAY AND SECOND, DURING A RED LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. THERE WERE VEHICLES DRIVING BEHIND AT BOTH TIMES. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, NOR DO I THINK IT IS SAFE TO HAVE OTHERS IN THE CAR.
My PVC hole for my oil got plugged due to a poor design choice resulting in water build up to accumulate inside the tube. As a result the rear main oil seal blew out resulting in significant damage to the engine.
ON FEBRUARY 9TH 2021 AT 5:00PM WHEN IT WAS 6 DEGREES WITH SNOW COVERED ROAD OUTSIDE, I WAS DRIVING TO A APPOINTMENT ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO ACT UP. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR BELLS WHEN OFF. I PULLED INTO A QUICK TRIP AND PUT SOME HEAT IN THINKING TO WAS A GAS LINE FREEZE UP. I WENT A SHORT 1.5 MILES TO MY APPT AND MY CAR DIED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICE A LOT OF OIL COMING FROM MY CAR. AGAIN STILL NO WARNING LIGHTS OR BELLS WENT OFF. I TOWED IT TO HENDRICK CHEVROLET WHERE ALL THE OIL CHANGES AND ALL PREVIOUS WORK HAVE BEEN DONE. THE PROBLEM IS A REAR MAIN SEAL THAT IS BLOWN DUE TO THE PCV VALUE GETTING CLOGGED WITH WATER AND FREEZING CAUSING HIGH CRACK CASE PRESSURE, BLOWING THE REAR SEAL. GM HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN 14882 WHICH COVERS THIS CONDITION IF THE CAR IS UNDER 120000 MILES/10 YEARS FROM IN SERVICE DATE. MY CAR HAS 110501MILES AND THE END SERVICE DATE 6/2012 AND SHOULD BE COVERED. HOWEVER GM SAYS MY VIN # ISN'T PART UP THE 14882 BULLETIN. MY REPAIR COST IS $3200.00 IT SEEMS THE CARS THAT ARE MANUFACTURED IN MEXICO ARE PART OF THIS BULLETIN BUT THE CARS MANUFACTURED IN CANADA ARE NOT. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE FACING AND COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. THERE IS A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON YOUR WEBSITE. THIS CONDITION ONLY WILL OCCURS DURING BELOW FREEZING CONDITIONS POTENTIALLY MAKING IT A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. IN MY CASE IF I WAS DRIVING ON I-435 INSTEAD OF HOLMES ROAD MY LIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN DANGER. THIS SHOULD BE A VERY EASY FIX FOR GM IT MAKE TO IN SURE THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS DURING FREEZING CONDITIONS AND TO PREVENT THE VERY EXPENSIVE COST FOR THE CONSUMER TO BARE. IN MY CASE I'M PICKING UP MY CAR, STOWING IT AND FINDING A LAWYER.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY I EXPERIENCED MY VEHICLE LOSING ENGINE POWER. THE INDICATOR SHOWED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH OIL PRESSURE. I HAVE SINCE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN. I RECENTLY HAD A PARTS RECALL AND TOOK IT IN,WITHIN A DAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON.I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO LET THEM KNOW AND WAS TREATED WITH CONFRONTATION. NOW I HAVE NO CAR AND STILL PAYING ON THE LOAN.
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FOR THE FRONT QUIT WORKING COMPLETELY. IT WAS SNOWING AND AFTER CLEANING THE CAR AND WINDSHIELD, I WENT TO USE THE WIPERS TO FINISH CLEARING THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AT THE TIME. I WENT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO CHECK AND DISCOVERED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER SIDE WAS STATIONARY IN ITS HOME RESTING LOCATION, THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS ABLE TO FREELY MOVE BY HAND, WITH NO RESISTANCE
WHENEVER I STOP AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN MY CAR STARTS TO VIOLENTLY ROCK BACK AND FORTH. NOT SIDE TO SIDE. THERE'S NO MOVEMENT IN THE CAR BUT YOU CAN VISIBLY SEE THE JERKING OF THE CAR. IT'S VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. LOTS OF PLACES CANNOT GET THE VEHICLE TO MIMIC THIS SO THEREFORE THEY CANNOT FIX THE ISSUE AND INSIST I'M CRAZY. OR THAT I'VE COME TO A STOP TO QUICKLY. WHICH I HAVE NOT. I HAVE EVEN WENT THE EXTRA MILE OF SLOWING DOWN WAY AHEAD OF TIME WHICH ALSO CAUSES THE ISSUE OF SAFETY. I HAVE MY TWO YEAR OLD WITH ME CONSTANTLY AND SHE JERKS AROUND IN HER CAR SEAT AT ALMOST EVERY STOP LIGHT:( I'M STARTING TO REGRET PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE.
I HAVE NOTICED MY CAR DOES NOT SIGNAL TO ME WHEN I'M GETTING TO CLOSE TO SOMETHING IN MY BACKUP CAMERA. IN OTHER WORDS I BACKED INTO SOMEONE'S GARBAGE BIN WHILE REVERSING. I WAS GOING VERY SLOW. THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ME AS I DON'T FEEL THE CAMERA IS VERY ACCURATE. I WAS WATCHING THE CAMERA AND LISTENING FOR A BEEP WITH NO MUSIC OR AIR GOING BECAUSE I HAD NOTICED I HADN'T HEARD THE THING BEEP BEFORE. I WAS ONLY IN THE DRIVEWAY BUT THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ISSUE IF I WAS PARALLEL PARKING ON A SIDE STREET IN TOWN.
THE DRIVER WINDSHIELD WIPER CAME OFF AND MOTOR BROKE BY JUST TURNING THEM ON. THE DRIVER WIPER STOPPED WORKING AND THE PASSENGER ONE IS THE ONLY ONE WORKING.
VEHICLE HAD BEEN STALLING AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS TO GO. IT HAS TURNED OFF ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR RED LIGHT AT THE POINT I STEP ON THE GAS. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLES ENGINE SOUNDS FORCED AND TREMBLES ON IT OWN ON A DAILY BASIS, EVEN WHEN IN PARK MODE.
2012 EQUINOX HAS BEEN USING MORE OIL THAN IT SHOULD. TOOK IT IN FOR A RECALL THIS WEEK, CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, REPLACED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER WHEN I SLOWED DOWN OR TRIED TO ACCELERATE. TOOK IT BACK IN, SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID I MY TIMING CHAINS ARE STRETCHED, THE CHAINS, GUIDES AND ACTUATORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ASAP BEFORE MY ENGINE STOPS FOR GOOD. SERVICE PERSON STATED THEY CONTACTED GM AND THEY WILL NOT HELP WITH THE COST TO FIX IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN APRIL 2019, IT HAS 89,441 MILES ON IT.
ON DEC 9TH I TOOK MY CAR TO A CERTIFIED CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER RECALL DONE. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME, THE CAR STARTED TO VIBRATE AND IT WAS DRIVING RUFF. I WAITED A WHILE TO SEE IF IT WOULD GET BETTER AND AFTER A DAY OR SO IT WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THEN IT STARTED, IT WOULD VIBRATE WHILE IDLE ON A STOP LIGHT, OR EVEN GETTING STUCK ON A STOP LIGHT. FIRST IT WAS JUST ONES WHILE OUT, NOE IT HAPPENS QUITE A FEW TIMES. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TALKED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY ANALYZED THE PROBLEM IT SEEMED AND DID SOMETHING TO THE CAR, WHAT I DO NOT KNOW, BUT THE ATTENDANT TOLD ME IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS THE AIR INTAKE. IT DID NOT WORK. I HAVE THE FEELING SOMETHING HAPPENED WHILE WORKING ON THE CONVERTER?
THE ENGINE EXPERIENCES EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION DUE TO FAULTY PISTON RINGS, THE PCV SYSTEM SUCKING OIL INTO THE INTAKE, AND THE OIL SPRAY JETS FORCING MORE OIL PAST THE FAULTY PISTON RINGS.
REAR CAMERA NOT WORKING. WENT BLACK AND FUSES REPLACED STILL NO CAMERA VIEW. VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND STILL NO CAMERA EVEN WHEN YOU PUT IN REVERSE. CAMERA DOESN'T COME ON..ITS JUST BLACK. I HAVE THE DISPLAY ON FOR CAMERA AS WELL STILL DON'T WORK
THE SUV SOUNDS LIKE ITS TRYING TO START ITS SELF. WE LEAVE OUR KEYS IN THE RIG. DURING THE DAY WE CAN HEAR THIS CLICKING SOUND. WE GO OUT TO THE RIG AND THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON AND MUSIC PLAYING IN THE RIG. THE SOUND THAT IT MAKES SOUNDS LIKE WHEN A RIG IS ALREADY STARTED AND TRYS TO START AGAIN. WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. FOUND NO INFO ONLINE ABOUT OTHER RIGS HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A MAIN ROUTE IN MODERATE RAIN TURNED THE WIPERS ON. THE DRIVER WIPER WENT UP STRONG ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD AND THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER WENT OVER INTO THE DRIVERSIDE AND THE WIPER FROZE SO ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER WORKED TO COVER 85% OF THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPED WORKING.
WHEN IN-MOTION AT MY POWER STEERING FAILS, THE WHEEL SEEMS TO GRAB AND MY CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS MOMENTARILY NOT IN MY CONTROL. IT HAPPENS ON STRAIGHT AWAYS AND MOST OFTEN IN SLOW SPEED TURNS. MY CONCERNS ARE THE INCIDENTS THAT MIGHT HAPPENS IN BUSY TRAFFIC AND ON WET & ICED ROADWAYS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN THE LAST 1000PLUS MILES AND MY SERVICE POWER STEERING NOTICE HAS FLASHED AT LEAST 2 TIMES. I AM SCHEDULED FOR SERVICE TODAY.
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION EVERY SINCE I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. THE FIRST SIGNS OF TROUBLE STARTED WHEN THE CAR WOULD CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING IN BUSY TRAFFIC. SUPPOSEDLY THE DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE, NOT SURE IF THAT WAS TRUE BECAUSE IT CONTINUED AS TIME WENT ON. SECONDLY I HAVE HAD SO MANY OIL CHANGES SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE AND THERE IS RECORD OF IT: 3/2019,05/2019,07/2019,(JOHNNY LONDOFF CHEVROLET UP UNTIL 05/2020),05/2020,10/2020,11/2020,02/2021... AND COUNTING. THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION AND IS BRINGING ABOUT MORE ISSUES WITHIN THE VEHICLE. LASTLY BUT NOT LEAST THE SENSORS AND OTHER THINGS ARE BEING DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS. AT THIS CURRENT TIME I AM HAVING "REDUCED ENERGY" ISSUES AND I JUST RECEIVED OIL CHANGE AND I'M BEING TOLD I NEEDED TO ADD OIL, BUT HOW WHEN I JUST GOT A OIL CHANGE. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO THE DEALER WHOM SOLD ME THE VEHICLE, RECALLS DEPT, ETC AND I'M NOT BEING PROVIDED WITH ASSISTANCE. PLEASE ASSIST WITH THIS ONGOING MATTER. I HAVE RECORDS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE ABNORMALLY WHILE COMING TO A STOP. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD RUN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD AFTER THE IGNITION HAD BEEN TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INITIALLY THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART RIGHT AWAY HOWEVER, AFTER THE LAST FAILURE, SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE NEEDED FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESTART. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DIAMOND AUTO SALES (255 EASTON RD, GLENSIDE, PA 19038, (215)887-2345) WHO REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND THE CAM SHAFT SOLENOID ADJUSTER HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BRYNER CHEVROLET, INC. (1750 THE FAIRWAY, JENKINTOWN, PA 19046, (215)402-7267) WHO REPLACED THE WATER PUMP HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS THEN REFERRED TO NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
CAR HAD 90,000 MILES WHEN BOUGHT AND WITH IN TWO WEEKS IT BURNED 4 QRTS OF OIL HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR A MONTH NOW JUST DID A OIL CHANGE A WEEK AGO AND IT'S DOWN 1.5 QRTS AND ONLY DROVE 700 MILES ON THIS OIL CHANGE
THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL AND CONSUMING OIL WITH 4 QUARTS OVER 2,000 MILES. THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT IS ALSO NOT ILLUMINATING SHOWING THAT THE ENGINE IS LOW ON OIL. WHEN THIS OCCURS IT ALSO CAUSES THE CAR TO JUMP FORWARD WHILE STOPPED AND THE BRAKE ENGAGED.
ENGINE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION SOUNDING LIKE A DIESEL WHEN RUNNING. THEN WHILE LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE WITH THE PLACE WE CHANGE OUR OIL AT, ALL OF A SUDDEN NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON AT ALL AND IT STALLS AT AN INTERSECTION TO FIND OUT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND NOW THE WHOLE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
2012 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH 54,000 MI ON IT SUDDENLY BEGINS TO STALL ON RESTARTS. STALLS AT STOP LIGHTS AND WHEN CAR IS MOVING SLOWLY. VERY, VERY DANGEROUS. HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR A FEW MONTHS AND I'M DEVASTATED. MECHANIC CHECKED AND NO CODES SHOWING, NO OTHER PROBLEMS EXCEPT THE STALLING. AFTER RESEARCH ONLINE IT SHOWS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE CHEVY EQUINOX. YET THERE IS NO RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHY?

I WAS OUT AND ABOUT DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO DESTINATION, TURNED OFF AS I DO BEFORE GOING IN TO ANY PLACE. I CAN OUT AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER ADJUSTING THE STEERING WHEEL AND MESSING WITH THE GEAR SHIFTER IT STARTED. ACTED AS IF THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. IT STANDED ME FOR ABOUT 45 MINS. NOW THE CAR ACTS AS IF IT DOESN'T WANT TO START AND WHILE DRIVING IF I TURN TO THE RIGHT THE RADIO GOES OUT AND POWER STEERING CUTS OUT THEN ONCE OUT OF THE TURN IT WORKS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE TURNING, NOW IN EITHER DIRECTION THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS.
WENT TO DRIVE THE CAR THIS MORNING AND NOTICE THE CAR SAID TO 'SERVICE POWER STEERING'. AFTER RESEARCHING THERE IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION INTO THE 2010 - 2015 CHEVROLET EQUINOX POWER STEERING AS THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER ISSUES REPORTED OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
THE TIMING CHAIN JUMPED ON MY EQUINOX CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THE VALVES ARE BENT AND IT NEEDS A NEW GASKET BECAUSE OF THIS. IT WILL COST $4500 TO REPAIR. $6700 FOR A NEW ENGINE. I OWE MONEY ON MY VEHICLE. THE TIMING CHAIN HAS JUMPED BEFORE, THE DAY AFTER I PURCHASED IT IN 2015 (EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN CERTIFIED) AND WITHIN THE LAST MONTH AS WELL AS ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONING, PREVENTING ME FROM STARTING THE VEHICLE. I AM NOT SURE IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD ISSUES. I AM PUTTING TODAY'S DATE AS THIS IS WHEN I RECEIVED THE NEWS OF THE COST OF REPAIR. I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN SHE QUIT WORKING ON ME. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THESE ENGINES. I WANT MY LOAN COVERED OR A REPAIR. I AM HEARING A LOT OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS MODEL AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES. THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS.
WE PURCHASED A 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX IN JANUARY 2020. WE TOOK IT FOR THE FIRST OIL CHANGE IN MAY 2020 (MIND YOU, DURING QUARANTINE FROM MARCH TO MAY WE RARELY DROVE IT) AND FOR A KNOCKING ENGINE NOISE, ONLY TO DISCOVER THE ENGINE WAS BURNING OIL. THIS IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL AND THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT MENTION ANY OF THIS TO US. WE CHECKED FOR RECALLS BUT THIS ISSUE IS NOT LISTED AS A "RECALL". IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER AND WE ARE HAVING IT SERVICED AGAIN FOR THE SAME ISSUE. WE HAD THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED IN MAY. AGAIN, THE VEHICLE MAKES A RATTLING NOISE AND IS LOW ON OIL WHEN WE HAD THE OIL CHANGED JUST FOUR WEEKS AGO. IT IS NOT DRAINING OIL, IT IS BURNING OIL AT AN ALARMING RATE.
ENGINE IS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. PER MECHANIC THIS HAS AFFECTED TIMING CHAIN, VALVES, PISTONS FOR WHICH THERE WAS A RECALL. I DO NOT RECALL RECEIVING A NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS NO/VERY LITTLE OIL WHEN I TOOK TO HIM TO CHECK WHAT WAS CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN RUFF AND SOUND RUFF. HE SAID PARTS WERE CAKED WITH OIL. MECHANIC SUGGESTED TO TAKE TO DEALER FOR RECALL KIT REPAIR.
OIL CONSUMPTION HAD TO DO REPAIRS. TEAR DOWN AND REPLACEMENT OF PISTONS AND RINGS. MOTOR WAS KNOCKING AND SIEZING
IN GARAGE AND DRIVEWAY, NOTHING WHEN TURNING IGNITION SWITCH. AFTER WAITING A MINUTE, CAR STARTED. NOTHING ELSE SEEMS TO BE OUT OF ORDER OR NOT IN CORRECT POSITION, SHIFT LEVER, BRAKES OR STEERING WHEEL. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN IN TRAFFIC. PURCHASED CAR USED IN DECEMBER 2019. THANKS
DRIVE SIDE SEAT BELT IS NOT LATCHING IN PLACE, I AM NOT SECURE OR SAFE. SEAT BELT WILL NOT SAFELY LOCK IN PLACE. THIS HAPPENS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION. PAPERWORK HAS BEEN SENT TWICE ON THE THE REPLACEMENT OF MY ENGINE. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT THE RON WESTPHAL CHEVROLET A SALESMAN NAMED ROBERT ITHIER HAD SOLD US THE VEHICLE INTRODUCING US TO THE FORMER OWNER, WE LOOKED THE VEHICLE OVER AND HAD ONE OF OUR MECHANICS CHECK THE VEHICLE AND IT SEEMED FINE. NOW THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT HELPING FIX THIS PROBLEM WE FOUND OUT BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE CODES WERE CLEARED AND AN ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET JUST BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I FEEL CHEATED, ROBBED AND CONNED FROM THIS DEALERSHIP, I AM STILL WAITING FOR REPAIRS TO BE PERFORMED

MY 2012 EQUINOX STOPPED RUNNING, IT WAS MAKING NOISE AS I DROVE IT AND ONCE I STOPPED AND CUT IT OFF IT NEVER STARTED AGAIN. ON JUNE 24,2020, IT WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I CHECKED THE OIL AND THERE WAS NONE IN THE ENGINE, THERE WERE NO LEAKES OBSERVED, I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW ALL OF THE OIL DISAPPEARED, THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE DRIVE WAY AT ALL. I WENT TO THE STORE GOT SOME, PUT A COUPLE OF QUARTS IN, THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN APPOINTMENT. ONCE THERE, I ASKED ABOUT THE NOISE AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS OKAY, THEY CHANGED THE OIL, SAID NOTHING OF THE ENGINE LIGHT AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. THE LIGHT WENT OFF THE NEXT DAY., JULY 27, 2020 I TOOK IT TO MY AUTO MECHANIC AND HE SUGGESTED I CALL GM BECAUSE THE CAR HAS BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES LIKE THAT AND I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR, IT ONLY HAS 74,000 MILES AND I HAD ONLY HAD IT 1Y AND 3 M. GM SUGGESTED THAT I ALLOW THEM TO TOW IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, SO THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK AND DELIVERED IT TO SERPENTINI CHEVROLET THE SAME DAY. I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THEY HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH CHEVY EQUINOX ENGINES BURNING OIL AND DAMAGING ENGINES. I ALSO SAW ON LINE A CLASS ACTION SUIT THAT WAS ONE BY THE CONSUMERS FOR ENGINE ISSUES IN REGARDS TO CHEVY EQUINOX MODEL 2010-2013 VEHICLES. AT THIS POINT THE ENGINE IS DAMAGED AND I DO NOT HAVE THE TRUCK IN MY POSSESSION. THESE VEHICLES ARE FAULTY, UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL
ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 22ND - WAS STOPPED IN A HEAVY DOWNPOUR ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT OUT A PARKING LOT. THE RAINFALL INCREASED SUDDENLY AND I TURNED MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS FROM INTERMEDIATE TO HIGH SPEED. THE WORKED ONCE, THEN STOPPED IN THE UP POSITION. ATTEMPTED TO RE-ENGAGE THE WIPER CONTROL ON THE CAR, BUT THE WIPERS WOULD NOT RESPOND. EXITED THE VEHICLE AND MANUALLY MOVED TO ARMS TO THE DOWN POSITION. WAITED 20 MINUTES FOR THE STORM TO CLEAR. TURNED ON HAZZARD LIGHTS AND DROVE SLOWLY HOME APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES AWAY IN LIGHT RAIN. WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING TO EXPLAIN THE ISSUE AND WILL BE ASKING GM TO COVER THE COST IF THE REPAIRS AS I AM RATHER CONFIDENT THUS ISSUE IS SIMILAR (IF NOT EXACTLY LIKE OTHER COMPLAINTS HERE CONCERNING FAULTY WIPER LINKAGE IN THE WIPER TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. SHAME ON GM FOR PUTTING OUT A RECALL ON 2013 EQUINOX VEHICLES BUT NOT ON THE 2012 EQUINIX WHICH USES THE SAME PART FOR THE WIPER ASSEMBLY/MOTOR/TRANSMISSION/LINKAGE ARM. A $4 PLASTIC PART TH AAS T MAY COST ME OVER $300 TO FIX. ALREADY HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED EARLIER ON DUE TO EXCESSIVE FUEL CONSUMPTION (THAT ISSUE WAS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY AT THE TIME). IF GM WILL NOT PAY FOR THIS REPAIR (WHICH THEY KNOW IS AN ISSUE BUT IS APPARENTLY WAITING FOR A CASUALTY TO ISSUE A RECALL), I WILL BE BUYING A NON-GM VEHICLE IN THE FUTURE.
