FRONT WIPERS STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY IN THE RAIN. WIPER MOTOR WAS RUNNING, BUT THE WIPERS WERE NOT MOVING
WHEN DRIVING STOPPED IN DRIVE AND PLACED INTO REVERSE THE TRUCK IDLES THEN SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY LEAVING ME TO PLACE THE TRUCK IN PARK AND START IT UP ALL OVER AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE REVERSING STOPS ONLY WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE OR PARKING. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH THAT INDICATE WHAT THE ISSUE COULD ACTUALLY BE. WHICH MEANS SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND LOTS OF MONEY SPENT TO SEE WHAT COULD FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2019, AND I'VE REALIZED THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN BURNING OIL LIKE CRAZY. I'VE HAD TO ADD ALMOST A QUART PER WEEK ON TOP OF VERY FREQUENT OIL CHANGES. MY CAR MAKES THIS TICKING NOISE WHEN IT STARTS AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TIMING CHAIN. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS, YET THE COMPANY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS IT'S UNDER 125K MILES. MINE IS AT 150K. I DON'T DRIVE ROUGH OR IN CRAZY CLIMATES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN, IN BUSY CITY TRAFFIC ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WIPERS STOPPED. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY AS I COULD BARELY SEE. I COULD STILL HEAR THE MOTOR RUNNING BUT THE WIPER ARMS WERE NOT MOVING. I COULD NOT PROCEED SAFELY AND HAD TO PARK THE CAR 40 MILES FROM HOME & CALL FOR A RIDE HOME. NOW WITH IT HOME WE FIND THE LINKAGE FAILED - MOTOR RUNS BUT NO MOVEMENT. ALSO LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FOR EQUINOX, WHERE ONLY THE 2013 IS COVERED - BUT 2012 HAS THE EXACT SAME UNIT IN IT. TOLD REPAIRS ARE GOING TO BE OVER $200, WHERE IT IS SUGGESTED THE PART IS $10 ONLINE. I SADLY HAVE TO RETURN TO THE DEALER FOR COSTLY REPAIRS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE COVERED BY RECALL IF THE 2013S ARE. GM ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM FOR THE 2013S, AND MADE CHANGES FOR THE FUTURE ... SO WHY NOT COVER THE 2012S AND PRIOR THAT HAVE THE SAME UNIT IN THEM, EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE?
I OWN A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX (PURCHASED IN SEPTEMBER 2011) THAT HAD BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A CERTIFIED GMC DEALERSHIP (CARL BLACK GMC ROSWELL, GA) WITH THE EXACT SAME CONDITIONS AS GMC SERVICE BULLETIN NO.: 12313D ' SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT ' ENGINE BALANCE CHAIN AND FUEL PUMP. WHILE MY 2012 MODEL IS NOT LISTED AS COVERED, I AM REQUESTING SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE INCLUDED IN THIS SCA GIVEN THE EXACT MATCH IN VEHICLE SYMPTOMS AND VERY CLOSE CHRONOLOGICAL PROXIMITY TO THE COVERED VEHICLES. I HAVE ATTACHED TWO COPIES OF THE BULLETINS, 1 FROM YOUR WEBSITE AND 1 FROM GM. THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP, THE VEHICLE JERKED WITH AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
WIPERS STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT(STATIONARY). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH, HE SUFFERED A MEDICAL CONDITION AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, CRASHING INTO A THREE FEET HIGH CEMENT BOULDER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER HAD THEIR SEAT BELTS LATCHED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 133,000.
I PURCHASED A 2012 EQUINOX ON 6/22/2019. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS I NOTICED MY OIL CONSUMPTION WAS A POSSIBLE ISSUE. AFTER HAVING IT DIAGNOSED AT OUR GM DEALER I NEED TO HAVE THE OIL ISSUE REPAIRED. I REPLACED PISTONS,RINGS,TIMING CHAIN,WATER PUMP, AND SPENT $3532.13. I MISSED A RECALL BY JUST A FEW WEEKS. THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING AS THIS IS NOW MY 3RD BUT POSSIBLY MY LAST EQUINOX. I HAVE RECENTLY WENT TO A GARAGE FOR A SIMPLE OIL CHANGE AND TO SEE IF I COULD INSTALL A HITCH KIT. COME TO FIND OUT THE FRAME ITSELF IS ROTTING INTERNALLY TO EXTERNALLY. THIS STIRRED UP SOME CONCERN BECAUSE I NEED AN INSPECTION COME JUNE OF THIS YEAR AND IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE ROT. MY CHEVY EQUINOX IS ONLY A 2012. BEING THAT I'VE ONLY PERSONALLY HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR A YEAR, AND IT IS ONLY 8 TO 9 YEARS OLD, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS KIND OF ROT THAT EXISTS IS BAD. I FOUND THIS OUT JUST THIS PAST WEEK.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROCKER PANELS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME COULD RECEIVE A TEMPORARY REPAIR HOWEVER, THE REPAIR WOULD NOT FIX THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL AND ALSO THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,515.
WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS AT A RED LIGHT WHEN IT SHUT DOWN. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, THERE WAS A LAWSUIT AGAINST GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT THE ENGINE. AFTER CONTACTING THEM THEY SAID I MISSED THE DEADLINE WHEN WE NEVER RECEIVED THE CLAIM FORM IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE CAR HAS BEEN CONSUMING A LOT OF OIL. IT FELT LIKE I WAS CHANGING THE OIL IN THE ENGINE TOO FREQUENTLY. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING 25 MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET IN LIGHT RAIN WHEN MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. AS I WAS CLOSE TO HOME, I WAS ABLE TO RETURN TO MY HOME SAFELY. I CHECKED THE GM WEBSITE BY ENTERING MY VIN BUT RECEIVED NOTICE THAT THERE WERE NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS AND AFTER THE REPAIR I WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THAT GM COVERED THE COST TO REPAIR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. I AM ATTACHING A COPY OF THE INVOICE. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT ONLY SO OTHERS WILL NOT END UP PAYING FOR SUCH A REPAIR WHEN MAYBE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OR NOTICE OF SUCH COVERAGE IS AVAILABLE AS A RESULT OF A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE.
ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING AND SUBSEQUENT METAL FRAGMENTS. CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NOTICE OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION FROM CHEVY NOR WAS IT INCLUDED IN RECENT CLASS ACTION SUIT. OIL CHANGES WERE PERFORMED AS REQUIRED. OWNER WAS NEVER INFORMED OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. OWNER WAS STALLED ON BUSY ROAD WHILE HEADING TO REPAIR SHOP TO FIND OUT WHY THE CAR WAS CHUGGING. THIS STALL BECAME A SAFETY ISSUE FOR OWNER AND OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD. COST OF REPAIR WAS $7793.44. CHEVROLET CORPORATION REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH COST.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE THE INTERSECTION I TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON. MADE IT HOME AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR MY CAR RATTLES AND MORE SO WHEN IN REVERSE
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION STARTING AT BETWEEN 30-40K MILES. SOMETIME IN ABOUT 2016 OR 2017. STARTED RECEIVING SOME INFORMATION ABOUT SOME EXCESSIVE OIL PROBLEMS BUT THAT THERE WAS STILL A PENDING CLASSACTION SUIT IN PROGRESS AND THAT I DIDN'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER ON 4/4/20 AND WAS TOLD THAT AN EXTENDED "SPECIAL COVERAGE" WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED ON 9/20/2019. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAVE BEEN ADDING UP TO 5 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AT 3,500 MILES. WAS TOLD TO DO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH WAS COMPLETED ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2020 TO VERIFY THAT 4.5 QTS OF OIL WERE ADDED OVER 2,955 MILES OF OPERATION. GM NOW REFUSES TO COVER THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE "SPECIAL COVERAGE" TIMEFRAME THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT (120K MILES OR 9/20/2019, WHICHEVER IS FIRST) HAS APPARENTLY ENDED AND THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 60,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME THE EXTENDED COVERAGE ENDED. I'VE BEEN RECEIVING LITIGATION INFORMATION ABOUT A SUIT AND CLAIMS FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXPENSES INTO EARLY 2020, BUT NOTHING ABOUT HOW TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED IF I HAVE NEVER PREVIOUSLY FILED ANY CLAIMS. I HAVE NOT KEPT RECEIPTS OF EVERY TIME I ADDED OIL, I JUST CHECK THE OIL PERIODICALLY WHEN REFILLING GAS AND ADD AS NECESSARY. I JUST WANT GM TO HONOR THE EXTENDED COVERAGE AND DO THE REPAIR ON THE PISTON ASSEMBLY. THE ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALLED PISTON ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH A NEWER PART TO APPARENTLY FIX THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE WHICH TELLS ME THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALLED PARTS AND THAT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM BASED ON IMPROPER CARE OR LACK OF MAINTENANCE BY THE OWNER.
CAR SHAKES PRETTY ROUGH WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. IT TAKES ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS FOR THE MOTOR TO COMPLETELY STOP AFTER THE KEY HAS BEEN REMOVED. IT HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR ABOUT A MONTH OR 2 AND WHEN THE CAR IS TAKEN IN TO BE SERVICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS OFF AND NO CODE CAN BE GENERATED. *TR
HAVING TO ADD OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD IT CHECKED. PER CODE LOW OIL AND CAN ONLY BE RESET AFTER AN OIL CHANGE. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND GOT THE OIL CHANGED AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE DEALER CALLED STATING I NEED TO GET NEW PISTON RINGS BECAUSE OF A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE OR I WILL LOSE OIL. THE DEALER STATED THE GM WILL GO 50/50 WITH ME ON THE FIX SINCE THE RECALL EXPIRED. I DID NOT GET A RECALL NOTICE OR HAVE THE 50% OF THE COST TO FIX THE VEHICLE, I AM THE 2ND OWNER.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEAVY DOWNPOUR AND THE CAR IS USING A LOT OF OIL
WIPERS STOPPED WHEN IT WAS RAINING BAD
BURNS THROUGH OIL VERY QUICKLY HAVE TO PUT IN MORE THAN SHOULD OFTEN TO KEEP UP
BURNING OIL FAST. JUST CHANGED OIL AND HAVE DRIVEN IT LESS THAN 3,000 MILES AND IS A QUART LOW. NOT THE FIRST TIME IT'S DONE THIS. CHECKED OIL SATURDAY WENT OUT OF TOWN ABOUT 3 HOURS ONE WAY GOT BACK HOME AND THE OIL WAS A QUART LOW. NO OIL SPOTS BENEATH THE CAR NOTICED AT THIS TIME.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH FUMES COMING INTO THE CAB OF MY VEHICLE THROUGH THE FRONT VENTS WHEN SET TO DEFROSTER OR CIRCULATING AIR FROM OUTSIDE TO INSIDE THROUGH THE VENTS. THE FUMES SMELL OF GAS OR EXHAUST AND ARE VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN SITTING STILL WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THIS IS NOTICEABLE MAINLY WHEN SITTING STILL IN VEHICLE WITH ENGINE RUNNING. THE SMELL IS OVERWHELMING. I HAVE DEVELOPED BREATHING PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASING MY VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN NEWLY DIAGNOSED WITH ASTHMA AND AM HAVING TO TAKE BREATHING TREATMENTS. I HAD THE FIRST ASTHMA ATTACK IN DECEMBER 2019. I AM ALSO HAVING PROBLEM WITH AIRBAG LIGHT STAYING ON. WHEEL INFORMATION IS ALSO INCORRECT. INFORMATION SYSTEM MAY INDICATE THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL PRESSURE IS LOW, WHEN IN FACT THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE PRESSURE IS LOW.

VIN# MISMATCH TECHNICIAN REPORTS ECU/PCM CAN'T BE FLASHED AND IS ACTUALLY MISSING THE VIN NUMBER. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ALWAYS ON AND CANNOT BE CLEARED. VEHICLE DRIVES AND OPERATES FINE. I HAVE NO MORE INFORMATION OR PROBABLE CAUSES.
RECALL NEEDS TO BE INITIATED AS PER CHEVY SPECIAL COVERAGE BULLETIN 14882 IN WHICH THE CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL SEAL AND PCV MANIFOLD AND ASSOCIATED PARTS ARE FAULTY RENDERING THE VEHICLE TO STALL, LEAK EXCESSIVE OIL AND DANGEROUS TO OPERATE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE OIL WAS LOW AND NEEDED TO BE TOPPED OFF. THE OIL LEVEL WAS TOPPED OFF HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO SPITZER CHEVY NORTH CANTON LOCATED AT 7111 SUNSET STRIP AVE NW, NORTH CANTON, OH 44720 TO BE DIAGNOSED. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PISTON RINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 15TH 2020 I DROVE ME AND MY FAMILY TO COLUMBUS OHIO FROM CANTON. ONCE IN COLUMBUS MY CAR STALLED AT A RED LIGHT. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A PARKING LOT. MY CAR WHEN IT WORKED WAS MAKING A METAL GRINDING NOISE. UNABLE TO DRIVE IT I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO A GARAGE IN CANTON. WHERE A MECHANIC SAID IT WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. I NEVER HAVE NOTICED LEAKING OIL BEFORE. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY MODEL AND YEAR OF CAR BURN OIL REALLY FAST. THAT'S WHEN I FOUND OUT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST GM FOR THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. I AGAIN STALLED BEFORE PARKING MY CAR IN THEIR LOT. THE SERVICE MECHANICS AT THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED MY PISTONS AND RINGS NEEDED REPLACED AND MY TIMING CHAIN WAS OUT OF SYNC. THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BUT THAT CHEVY WANTS ME TO DRIVE 1000 MILES BEFORE GM CAN DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT THEIR HIGH OIL BURN ISSUE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR. I HAVE CALLED GM MULTIPLE TIMES VOICE MY ISSUE DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR WITH MY SON WHO'S ONE TODAY IN IT. WHY WOULD GM INSIST I DRIVE A CAR THAT THEIR OWN DEALERSHIP SAYS IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE? MULTIPLE PEOPLE AT SPITZER IN NORTH CANTON HAVE SAID IT TO ME. SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING TO INVESTIGATE .
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH on the highway, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear of the vehicle and smoke coming from the exhaust. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
MY VEHICLES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THEN THE STABILITY LIGHT CAME ON THE VEHICLE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS CHOKING. WHEN WE GOT IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP IT STALLED OUT AND WHEN THE SHOP DID SHOVE INVESTIGATION THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO WARNING ABOUT OIL BEING LOW OR LIGHTS ON. AS WE WERE BRINGING VEHICLE TO SHOP IT SMELLED OF BURNING. VEHICLE STARTED MALFUNCTIONING WHEN STATIONARY AND BECAME WORSE WHEN IN MOTION.
DRIVING AND LOST ALL THE OIL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. HAS A RECALL THAT DOESNT INCLUDE MY VIN. THIS IS AN ISSUE AS THERE ARE THOUSANDS THIS IS HAPPENING TOO. GM REFUSES TO FIX IT. THEY ARE SAYING THAT THE ONLY REASON IT ISNT COVERED IS BECAUSE IT DIDNT COME FROM THE RIGHT PLANT.
MULTIPLE TIMES, I WOULD CHECK MY OIL PREPARING FOR LONG DRIVES, AND I WOULD HAVE TO ADD A QUART OR 2 OF OIL BECAUSE THE DIPSTICK WAS DRY. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, FOX MOTOR'S NEGAUNEE, I WAS REPEATEDLY TOLD THEY WERE KNOWN FOR OIL CONSUMPTION. THE LAST TIME WE DROVE IT, WE WERE DRIVING IN MARQUETTE MI, WHEN STARTED TO SOUND AND RUN AS IF IT'S A DIESEL MOTOR AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED AND RAN LIKE IT WAS AT HALF POWER. IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY NO HIGHER THAN 35 MPH. WE DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP; THEY BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AND DISCOVERED THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ONCE INTO SERVICE THEY DISCOVERED THE RINGS HAD FAILED, IT ONLY HAD JUST OVER 84,000 MILES, WAY TOO SOON TO HAVE A TIMING BELT FAILURE, OR AN ENGINE FAILURE. AT NO TIME DID THE DEALERSHIP MENTION GETTING OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS AT OUR OIL CHANGES, WHEN THE CONSUMPTION WAS BROUGHT UP, NOR WERE WE ADVISED THERE WERE SERVICE BULLETINS PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE. THIS IS NOT A RARE INSTANCE, BUT HAS BECOME A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE FAILURE HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE TO CONSUMERS GETTING THEIR MOTORS REBUILT ONLY TO EXPERIENCE FAILURE ANOTHER TIME.
ENGINE LIGHT CAME DUE TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION REPLACE INTAKE & EXHAUST CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVES
ON TUESDAY FEBRUARY 4, 2020 1:09PM MY 2012 EQUINOX VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE 10 MINUTES AFTER REACHING MY DESTINATION IN A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY. THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF, AND LOCKED WITH THE KEY BEFORE ENTERING THE RESIDENCE. SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY WITH FLAMES. MY CONCERNS: 1) I HAD MY PASTOR WITH ME AND THIS COULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING; 2) MY NEXT DESTINATION WAS PARKING IN MY GARAGE AND I WOULD HAVE HAD A HOUSE FIRE. GOD WAS WATCHING OVER US.
DRIVING NORMALLY ABOUT 35 MPH ON SUBURBAN ROAD WHEN DASHBOARD SUDDENLY INDICATED "SERVICE POWER STEERING." THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO LOSE ALL POWER ASSISTANCE AND WAS STRENUOUS, EVEN DANGEROUSLY RESISTANT, ESPECIALLY WHEN NEEDING TO TURN IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ARRIVED HOME AND CHECK THE POWER STEERING FUSE, WHICH WAS OKAY. NEXT DAY STEERING WAS BACK TO NORMAL POWER-ASSIST AND DASHBOARD INDICATOR MESSAGE WAS GONE. *TR
ON THE EVENING OF JAN 27, 2020, WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM OUR SON AFTER THE CAR BROKE DOWN WHILE HE WAS DRIVING, JUST ABOUT A MILE FROM OUR HOUSE. HE HEARD A POP AND WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE ENGINE BLEW UP. HE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, HE TRIED TO TURN IT BACK ON WITHOUT SUCCESS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO ELCO CHEVROLET ($120) THE NEXT MORNING. THEY CALLED TO LET US KNOW THAT A PISTON BROKE AND WENT THROUGH THE ENGINE FOR A CATASTROPHIC EVENT. THE CAR WOULD REQUIRE A NEW ENGINE WITH A ESTIMATED COST OF $8,000. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PREVIOUS 'FIXES' AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP NOR GM WOULD COVER THIS. ON JULY 25, 2018 WE TOOK THE CAR TO BOMMARITO GMAC (LOCATED IN ELLISVILLE, MO). BOMMARITO TOLD US THAT WE SHOULD WATCH THE OIL AND BRING IT BACK EVERY 1,000 MILES FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK IF IT CONTINUED TO BURN OIL QUICKLY. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK 3 TIMES MORE BEFORE THEY AGREED TO CHANGE THE PISTONS. BOMMARITO REPLACED THE PISTONS AT GMS COST, ON 10/28/18. THE CAR HAD 58,017 MILES AT THIS TIME. WE WENT BACK FOR 3 MORE OIL CHANGES IN THE NEXT YEAR. ON NOV 29, 2019 WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO FIRESTONE BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND REFERRED US TO ELCO CHEVROLET (LOCATED IN BALLWIN, MO) TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. ELCO CHANGED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON 12/9/19 ($808.51 AND 70,883 MILES). WE CONTACTED 7 MECHANICS (3 OF THEM ARE OTHER CHEVY/GM DEALERSHIPS) IN ADDITION TO THE 2 CHEVY/GM DEALERS THAT 'FIXED' THE PISTONS AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. WE FOUND OUT THIS WAS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH EQUINOX AND THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS REASON. ALL 7 SAID THAT THE PISTONS AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES DEFINITELY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE BLOWING.
THE PCV VALVE BUILD UP CONDENSATION WHILE RUNNING, WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY FROZE. UPON STARTING THE VESICLE AGAIN, IT BUILT PRESSURE TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT IT THEN BLEW OUT MY REAR MAIN SEAL. IT IS EXACTLY THE SCENARIO DESCRIBED IN GM'S SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT #14882 OR DOCUMENT ID 4098165. SOMEHOW MY VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS KNOWN DEFECT! THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THE WARNING I HAD WAS A POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASH, THEN LATER A OIL PRESSURE LIGHT FLASH (ALL WENT OUT). THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON SURFACE STREETS. THIS BECAME WORSE WHEN BREAKING.
AT APPROXIMATELY, 92000 MILES ON MY EQUINOX, WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE PCV VALVE CLOGGED/FROZE AND EXERTED TO MUCH PRESSURE TO MY ENGINE CAUSING THE REAR MAIN SEAL TO BLOW AND SPILL ALL OF THE ENGINE'S OIL ALL OVER THE GROUND. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE UP AND STALL. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND AVOID ANY ACCIDENT. THIS EXACT ISSUE IS DETAILED UNDER GM'S SERVICE BULLETIN 14882 WHICH LISTS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. HOWEVER, MY VIN# IS NOT COVERED FOR SOME REASON. THIS RECALL HAS TO BE EXTENDED TO OTHER VIN #'S. I CURRENTLY HAVE MY CAR SITTING AT A CHEVY REPAIR SHOP AWAITING SERVICE TOTALING OVER $1800 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE RECALL. GM HAS NOT HANDLED THIS RECALL PROPERLY.
RECEIVED A SETTLEMENT PAPER FOR EXCESSIVE OIL USAGE. A REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM WAS MADE TO PEOPLE WHO HAD THIS REPAIR MADE TO CAR. WE COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY UP FRONT FIRST. SPOKE TO SETTLEMENT ADMINISTRATOR AND HE SAID GM SHOULD DO A RECALL.
I USE MY WIPERS ON LOW WITHOUT PROBLEMS. I HAD TO TURN ON HIGH WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE FIRST SWIPE THEY STOPPED WORKING. THE MOTOR CAN BE HEARD BUT THE WIPERS WILL NOT WORK ANYMORE
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ABOUT A YEAR AGO FROM ORIGINAL OWNER. IT HAS BURNED OIL SINCE I OWNED IT. I HAVE 83,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE SEIZED ON ME. THE COST TO REPAIR IS $6700. I HAVE HAD OIL CHANGES EVERY 2,000 MILES SINCE I BOUGHT IT AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES. I WILL NEVER BUY CHEVY AGAIN.
FRONT TRANSMISSION ALL WHEEL DRIVE HAS NOISE SIMILAR TO BAD BEARING. AT AROUND 40 TO SIXTY MPH THE TRANSMISSION JERKS . HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. 2 YEARS AGO
THE BLOCK PCV VALVE IS LEAKING AND HAS OVER POWERING BAD FUMES ARE COMING INSIDE OF MY CAR AND SMOKE DETECTION AND OIL SPOTS IN MY GARAGE.
ON JANUARY 10, 2020, I WAS DRIVING ON HWY. 97 TO BEND, OR, IN HEAVY RAIN WHEN THE WIPERS SUDDEN STOPPED. THEY WERE IN THE FULL WIPE POSITION, AND THEY WOULD NOT MOVE ANY FURTHER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK AGAIN. I TURNED THEM ON AND OFF, AND MOVED THEM BACK TO THE REST POSITION, BUT THEY WOULD NOT MOVE. THE RAIN WAS TOO INTENSE TO DRIVE WITHOUT THEM, SO I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. THIS WAS A RATHER DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE DANGEROUS HAD I STILL BEEN TRAVELING IN HEAVY SNOW THROUGH THE MT. HOOD PASSES. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALER IN BEND THE FOLLOWING MORNING, AND THEY REPAIRED IT, STATING THAT THE MOTOR HAD FAILED. THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR, THOUGH IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL. THEY DID NOT MENTION THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH WIPERS IN THESE VEHICLES, SOMETHING I ONLY LEARNED ABOUT AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE. IT SEEMS LIKE CHEVROLET MAY BE PUTTING THE OWNERS OF ITS VEHICLES AT RISK. THIS IS VERY DISCONCERTING.
DONE A OIL CHANGE AND ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER NO OIL. HAD TO CHANGE THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND NOW THROWING THE CODE 420. RUNS SLUGGISH AND EXHAUST IS NOW BLOWING THROUGH THE VENTS.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the oil level was constantly low, and she was adding 5 quarts of oil in the vehicle every 4-6 weeks. The contact stated while driving 25-30 MPH, there was smoke coming out from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact’s son lifted the hood and noticed that there was oil residue on all the components under the hood. Additionally, there was a significant amount of smoke coming out of the engine compartment. The contact added oil to the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the part to do the repair was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. An unknown dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.
ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO I WENT TO START MY EQUINOX WITH THE KEY AND WHEN I PUT IT IN THE IGNITION MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A CITY STREET. THEN THE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER I HAD GONE OVER A LITTLE BUMP AND MY DASH STARTED SHOWING UP WITH WARNING LIGHTS SAYING 'SERVICE STABILIZ' AND 'ALL-WHEEL DRIVE OFF'.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX ON ILLINOIS, I-90 AT 70 MPH VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. ENGINE COULD NOT ACCELERATE, STARTED SHAKING, THAN STALLED. PUTTING MYSELF & FAMILY AT RISK & IN DANGER. ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT, HAD IT REBUILT. GM IS AWARE OF THEIR FAULTY ENGINES BUT CONTINUES TO SELL THESE CARS AND PUT FAMILIES AT RISK. THEY LOST A LAWSUIT BUT CONTINUE TO DENY CLAIMS & RESELL THE FAULTY VEHICLES. WAITED ALMOST A YEAR TO BE DENIED. THESE VEHICLES WITH THE FAULTY ENGINES NEED TO BE PULLED IMMEDIATELY & CONSUMERS NEED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF FIXING GM'S MISTAKES.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 184,319.
ON DEC. 14,2019 WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY PARKWAY IN NEW JERSEY IN THE POURING RAIN, MY WIPERS STOPPED OPERATING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDOW. THIS CAUSED A LOSS OF VISIBILITY, MADE ME VIOLENTLY SWERVE OFF OF THE ROAD AND INJURE MY RIGHT KNEE. I AM SUFFERING A KNEE CONTUSION AND POSSIBLE LIGAMENT DAMAGE DUE TO THE SUDDEN IMPACT. I REPORTED THIS COMPLAINT ON DEC. 16, 2019 AND AFTER REVIEWING IT ONLINE, IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE REPRESENTATIVE LISTED THAT THERE WASN'T AN INJURY REPORTED; WHICH IS FALSE INFORMATION. I MADE IT VERY CLEAR THAT I INJURED MY KNEE FROM THE DIRECT MALFUNCTION OF THE WIPERS. I HAVE SINCE VISITED THE ER AND MY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN.
