1/4/2019 6:45 A.M. IN A HEAVY RAINSTORM, IN THE DARK, DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT A HIGH SPEED IN THE LEFT-HAND LANE, I TURNED MY WINDSHIELD WIPER SPEED TO MAX. THE WIPER'S STOPPED WORKING. I LOST COMPLETE VISIBILITY. I COULD HEAR THE MOTOR FOR THE WIPERS MOVING BUT NOTHING WORKED. IN AN INCREDIBLE PANIC, I TRIED TO TURN THEM ON/OFF, TO NO AVAIL. THIS WAS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I HAD TO THINK ABOUT WHAT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD LOOKED LIKE FROM MEMORY JUST SO I COULD PULL OFF WITHOUT BEING HIT/CAUSING A MULTIPLE CAR ACCIDENT, AND WITHOUT BEING KILLED. I HAD TO NAVIGATE, WITH NO VISIBILITY AND MANAGED TO GET OFF THE ROAD'A BIT TOO FAR MIGHT I ADD. THIS IN TURN CAUSED ME TO BE STUCK IN THE MUD AS I SLIDE TO A SUDDEN STOP. THE TOW AND REPAIRS COST ME $625.87. I'VE DONE MY RESEARCH AND I'M SHOCKED TO SEE SO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. SADLY, HAD I WRECKED MY INSURANCE WOULD HAVE MADE ALL REPAIRS AND POTENTIALLY SUED GM FOR RESTITUTION. WHY IS THERE A RECALL TO FIX THIS IN CANADA AND NOT HERE IN THE US? GM SHOULD LIVE UP TO ITS NAME AND REPUTATION AND REIMBURSE ME THIS MONEY FOR THESE REPAIRS AND SHOULD ALSO IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZE THIS PROBLEM AND DO A RECALL. I AM SURE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY OTHERS WHO WERE NOT FORTUNATE ENOUGH, OR WILLING TO SHARE THIS AS I HAVE. I WONDER HOW MANY WRECKS OR INJURY'S THAT HAVE BEEN CAUSED DUE TO THIS DEFECT. IS GM REALLY THE COMPANY THEY PROMOTE THEMSELVES TO BE?
EXHAUST MANIFOLD CRACKED. SO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. IS THERE A SERVICE BULLETIN AVAILABLE FOR THIS ISSUE?
RECALLED MOTOR WAS RECALLED DUE TO ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION GM FAILED TO REPLACE BEARINGS AND HONE CYLINDERS THAT SHOWED SIGNS OF BURNING DEALER AGREED TO REPLACE PISTONS RINGS AND PISTONS NOTHING ELSE .DID NOT DO ANY MUCH TO RESOLVE MOTOR PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE REPALCED MOTOR COMPLETLY

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING IN RAINY WEATHER, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO WILSONVILLE CHEVROLET (26051 SOUTH WEST BOONES FERRY ROAD, WILSONVILLE, OR 97070, (866) 279-5360) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,265. *TT CONSUMER STATED RECALLED IN CANADA BUT NOT THE US.*JB
1.EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION FROM DAY 1 - WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL, 2.FLUTTERING SOUND IN THE ENGINE WHEN CRANKED. 3.IDLING ROUGH FOR A LOOOOONNNNG TIME. 4. REPLACED BOTH INTAKE & EXHAUST CAM SENSORS 5. REMOVED AND REPLACED FAN DRIVE BELT. 6.CAR STARTED SHIFTING ROUGHLY. 7. STARTED IDLING SO LOW THAT I HAD TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE GAS SO IT WOULDN'T SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND CUT OFF. MOSTLY WHEN I WAS STOPPED BUT STARTED SHAKING AND CUTTING OFF WHEN I JUST SLOW DOWN. SAME THING WHEN I BACK UP. ALSO WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. LAST TIME I DROVE IT (2 DAYS AGO) IT SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND CUT OFF ON ME 4 TIMES. WAITING FOR THE DEALER TO CALL ME BACK NOW.. PLEASE MAKE GM/CHEVROLET DO A RECALL!!! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MAJOR OIL CONSUMPTION SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED, SAID EVERYTHING WAS GOOD...BS!! I CHANGED OIL IN OCT, COMPLETELY DRY IN DEC! I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE INTAKE/EXHAUST POSITION ACTUATORS TWICE NOW. FLUTTERING SOUND IN THE ENGINE WHEN CRANKED. NOW I HAVE (4) DIFFERENT CODES 3 OF WHICH PERTAIN TO FUEL PRESSURE REG/SYSTEM RAIL AND THE OTHER ONCE AGAIN FOR THE POSITION ACTUATOR. AND IT RAN FINE BEFORE BEING PARKED IN GARAGE FOR ONLY A COUPLE HOURS, ONCE STARTED IT SHOOK AND VIBRATED VIOLENTLY.
CAR IS USING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. CAR IS MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS. OIL IS BEING CHECKED EVERY 2-3 DAYS DUE TO AMOUNT OF OIL BEING USED AT WHICH TIME I HAVE TO ADD ABOUT 2 QUARTS OF OIL TO CAR. I HABE ONLY HAD CAR 17 MONTHS AND HAVE ALREADY REPLACED BOTH OXYGEN SENSORS BOTH CATALYST CONVERTORS AND DONE 3 OIL CHANGES. ONLY USE OIL WITH DEXOS IN IT AS RECOMMENDED. CHECK ENGINE LIKE HAS COME ON A COUPLE TIMES WITH CODE SAYING RUNNING TOO RICH. OIL SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE ON THE STICK. HABE ALSO HAD A WHITE SLIMEY SUBSTANCE ON THE OIL CAP. SPOKE WITH REPAIR TECH AT CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND HE STATED ITS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY ENGINE. BULLENTIN DOES NOT COVER MY CAR SINCE I HAVE 165,000 MILES ON IT.
THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL AT EXCESSIVE RATES. ONCE THE OIL IS LOW THE OIL LIGHT IS NOT COMING ON. THE ENGINE WILL STALL, BUCK, OR SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR FASTER THAN NORMAL CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING TO HAVE THE CAR STALL OR WHEN GOING FROM A STOP TO PRESSING THE GAS AND HAVE THE CAR LURCH FORWARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION AND CAUSED ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR BRIEFLY. THE CAR HAS STALLED WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND CAUSED CARS TO NEARLY REAR END ME. THE CAR HAS ALSO STALLED WHEN ACCELERATING.

ENGINE STARTING USING 1 1/2 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 400 MILES IF WE DRIVE 1000 MILES ENGINE LIGHT COME ON THIS IS A 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX DEALER SAID THEY WILL REBUILD THE MOTOR UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WE WILL WAIT AND SEE WHAT OTHER PROBLEMS ARISE OUT OF THIS REBUILD ....PROBLEMS WE NEVER HAD BEFORE
SUDDEN LOSS OF OIL.
THE RIGHT HEAD LIGHT SIDE GOES ON AND OFF, THE STEREO TURNES OFF WHILE LISTENING TO IT AND THE SIGNAL LIGHTS DON'T WORK WHEN THE RADIO TURNS OFF ON ITS OWN ALSO THE REAR VIEW CAMERA TURNS OFF AT THE SAME TIME THE RADIO DOES. THE FRONT AND REAR WIPERS DON'T ALWAYS WORK. THE ENGINE LIGHTS COMES ON AND OFF AND THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR COMES ON AND OFF. ALSO ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION.
FROZEN PCV VALVE CAUSED PRESSURE IN THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED MAIN SEAL OF ENGINE TO BLOW OUT AND ALL THE OIL DRAINS OUT OF THE ENGINE .THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.ON CITY STREETS JUST DRIVING IN THE WINTER. IT WILL COST 2000.00 FOR REPAIRS
BRIEFLY, FOR THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF I HAVE EXPERIENCED ROUGH IDLE ON START AND ROUGH IDLE & STALL WITH THE CAR LOSING POWER AND GOING DEAD AT RED LIGHTS AND IN TRAFFIC WHILE IN DRIVE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE AUTO MECHANIC AND STORED CODES SUGGESTED REPLACING O2 SENSORS, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND A TUNE-UP WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE; I REPLACED ALL OF THE ABOVE TO THE TUNE OF 1400.00; THE ISSUE OF ROUGH IDLING, STALL & LOSING POWER, GOING DEAD AT THE LIGHT/ SITTING IN TRAFFIC HAS NOT RESOLVED. THE 2012 EQUINOX IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE; IT JUST KEEPS STALLING AND GOING DEAD/LOSING POWER WHILE IN DRIVE. I HAVE SPENT ALMOST 1400.00 TRYING TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THIS ISSUE SINCE DECEMBER 1. MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE THE CEL BUT STILL IDLES ROUGHLY, STALLS AND LOSES POWER/STOPS RANDOMLY AT RED LIGHTS AND IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SAFELY USE THE 2012 EQUINOX FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE OUT OF THE FOUR WEEKS OF DECEMBER. OUT OF FRUSTRATION I GOOGLED MY EXPERIENCES WITH THE CAR AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS APPARENTLY IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT WAS FOUND IN THE 2011 MODEL (SEE NHTSA ID# 10430919; 10437891; 10499684 & 10413320. RECALL#11195 & 12312. BULLETIN #PI0562, PI0202A, PIP4716 & PI0469). APPARENTLY THIS ISSUE WAS NOT FIXED OR ADDRESSED IN SUBSEQUENT MODELS AS I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE A SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL ALTHOUGH MY CAR A 2012 CHEVROLET EQUINOX IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY 1,000'S OF DOLLARS DIAGNOSING AND FIXING KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECTS. SUBSEQUENT VEHICLES MADE AFTER THE ISSUE WAS FOUND IN TH 2011 SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED OR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER SERVICE BULLETINS & RECALLS ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR IDLES ROUGH WHEN STARTING, LOSES POWER AND CUTS OFF WHILE IN DRIVE WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN STOP & GO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC OR AT STREET RED LIGHTS- THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND CAN RESULT IN AN UNNECESSARY ACCIDENT OR EVEN GOD FORBID A FATALITY.
EXHAUST CAM SHAFT SOLENOID VALVE REPLACED 3 TIMES WITHIN 1 YEAR. CAM SHAFT INTAKE ACCUATOR REPLACED 1 TIME. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON WHILE TRAVELING ON FREEWAY. ERROR CODE P0014/P0013 CONFIRMED BY DEALERSHIP AT TIME OF REPAIRS. RECENTLY HAD FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION FAILED. ALSO WHILE TRAVELING VIA FREEWAY DURING A HEAVY RAIN STORM THIS CAR HAS 58000 MILES AT THIS TIME AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED.
WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN, WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED ON 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX. DEALER REPLACED BROKEN WIPER TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY, BROKEN OFF LINK NEAR MOTOR, INSTALLED PART NUMBER 84241847, CHANGED DRAIN HOLE. 2013 IS COVERED BY RECALL IN US, 2010 THROUGH 2016 IS COVERED BY RECALL IN CANADA. NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING IF 1.7MILLION FURTHER MODEL YEARS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN RECALL - YES THEY SHOULD (SAME EXACT PART NUMBER AS 2013 MODEL)!!! CHEVY CHARGED ME $253.78 FOR LABOR AND MATERIAL! 106K MILES
BOUGHT MY 2012 EQUINOX 9/2012. IN FEBRUARY 2013 MY SUV MADE A LOUD NOISE AND WOULDN'T START. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR. TODAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE SHOWED "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND SLOWED TO ALMOST A STOP. I MADE IT HOME BUT NOT SURE IF IT'S DRIVEABLE NOW. I'M A NURSE AND WAS IN HOME HEALTH UNTIL THIS LAST YEAR, SO MY VEHICLE HAS HIGH MILEAGE. 113,000. BUT EVEN AT THAT YOU'D THINK SPENDING $23,000 ON A NEW VEHICLE IT WOULD LAST LONGER THEN 5 YEARS.
DURING 2018 AND EARLIER, MY 2012 EQUINOX WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW 07/25/2012 HAS BEEN BURNING/USING WAY MORE OIL THAN NORMAL. THE OIL CHECK LIGHT AND/OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE, WHICH MY HUSBAND THINKS IT COULD BE THE PISTONS AND/OR VALVES. THERE IS NO LEAKAGE ON THE CARPORT OR SEALS. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED AT THE BURIEN CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. I HAVE MENTION NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT THE OIL SITUATION AND THE SERVICING REP. ALWAYS SAID, JUST MAKE SURE TO MONITOR IT. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ALWAYS ADDING MORE THAN THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF OIL AND NOT ACTUALLY FIXING THE INTERNAL RATTLING NOISE (ROOT CAUSE). AFTER RESEARCHING THIS TYPE OF SITUATION FOR MY VEHICLE TYPE, I FOUND IT FALLS EXACTLY IN LINE WITH 'EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION' SITUATION. SAME AUDIBLE RATTLE OR KNOCK FROM THE ENGINE CAN BE HEARD. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THIS AND HAVE A SCHEDULED DIAGNOSTIC TEST SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW. I SHOULD DEMAND THE DEALER TO SERVICE PERFORM AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST FOR FREE AND IF MY VEHICLE DOES NOT PASS, HAVE THE DEALER FIX THE PISTONS AND/OR VALVES BILLED TO GM. MY ASK IS'WOULD NHTSA HAVE ANY DOCUMENTATION AND/OR LINKS TO ASSIST IN FOLLOWING UP?
WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY, WIPERS COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE, WHO REPAIRED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING COMPLETE WIPER ASSEMBLY AND MOTOR. MOTOR SEPARATED FROM LINKAGE. DEALER WAS OUT OF STOCK AND HAD TO ORDER PART SINCE THEY SOLD 3 THAT DAY.
MY 2012 EQUINOX, WITH JUST UNDER 87,000 MILES WAS GOING THROUGH A QUART OF OIL ABOUT EVERY 1,000 - 1,500 MILES. DRIVING HOME RECENTLY, IT JUST DIED ON ME. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD IT TOWED TO A GARAGE AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THEY SAID THE TIMING CHAIN STRETCHED AND THERE WERE MULTIPLE BENT VALVES AND BROKEN ROCKER ARMS. I GOT A SECOND OPINION AND THEY FOUND THE SAME THING. I HAD A GM DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A USED ONE THAT HAS 23,000 MILES. NEEDING IT FOR WORK, I HAD THEM DO IT RIGHT AWAY. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THESE ARE NOT UNCOMMON PROBLEMS. I CALLED GM WITH MY COMPLAINT BUT THEY JUST KEEP 'ELEVATING' MY COMPLAINT. WHICH IS APPARENTLY THEIR WAY OF JUST PASSING IT ON TO ANOTHER PERSON WHO WILL TELL ME THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. THE LAST PERSON TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T HELP ME BECAUSE I REPLACED THE ENGINE WITH A USED ONE. I'M WAITING FOR ANOTHER CALL, BUT I DON'T EXPECT ANY HELP FROM THEM.
HAD TO HAVE BOTH CONVERTERS REPLACED AND THEY REPLACED THE UPSTREAM O2 SENSOR AS WELL. NOVEMBER 13, 2018 THE CAR WOULD BARELY PULL A HILL, AND WOULD ACT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO CUT OFF. WE REPLACED THE DOWNSTREAM O2 SENSOR WHICH TOOK CARE OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND THEN WE DID AN OIL CHANGE ON NOVEMBER 17, 2018. WE HAVE KEPT UP WITH ALL THE MAINTENANCE AS RECOMMENDED WITH DEXOS OIL. THE CAR IS STILL ACTING VERY SLUGGISH AND LURCHES OR REVS TO A HIGHER RPM WHILE DRIVING AT TIMES. AFTER THE OIL CHANGE TO DECEMBER 15TH, I HAD PUT AN ADDITIONAL GALLON AND A HALF OF OIL IN THE CAR BESIDES WHAT WAS PUT IN DURING THE OIL CHANGE. ON DECEMBER 15TH, WENT TO CHECK THE OIL AND NOTICED A SLIMY YELLOWISH WHITE SUBSTANCE IN THE OIL CAP OF THE CAR. ADVISED ME TO CLEAN THE CAP OUT REAL GOOD AND DRY IT OUT. DO AN OIL CHANGE TO MAKE SURE THE OIL LOOKED FINE AND WAS NOT CLOUDY. WE ALSO CHECKED THE ANTIFREEZE TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NO OIL PRESENT. WE DID ANOTHER OIL CHANGE AND DID EVERYTHING OUR DEALERSHIP TOLD US TO DO, FOUND THE OIL LOOKED FINE, BUT SMELLED OF GAS. THAT IS WHEN WE STARTED LOOKING ONLINE AND FOUND THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. RIGHT NOW DON'T HAVE THE THOUSANDS OF EXTRA FUNDS TO SEND IT TO THE SHOP OR REPLACE THE ENGINE, BUT FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT LOOKS LIKE WHAT IS GOING TO HAVE TO HAPPEN. SATURDAY SPOKE WITH A TECH AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND HE SAID IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY CAR, AND THAT GM SENT OUT A BULLETIN IN 2017 BUT THAT MY CAR WOULD NOT BE COVERED AS IT IS OVER THE 140,000 MILES LIMIT SINCE MY CAR IS CURRENTLY 165,000 MILES ON IT. WE ARE CURRENTLY CHECKING THE OIL EVERY 2-3 DAYS AND PUTTING OIL IN AS NEEDED, AS THIS WEEK ALONG WE HAVE ADDED ALMOST 2 QUARTS OF OILS AND HAVE WENT LESS THAN 200 MILES. I REFUSE TO DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY AS I'M AFRAID THAT SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND I'M GOING TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT, SO I TAKE ALL BACK ROADS.
MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING AS I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY DURING A RAIN STORM. I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING OUT OF MY WINDSHIELD AND HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY. IT WAS RAINING HARD AND I COULDN'T EVEN SEE WELL ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD.
I HAVE A 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH UNDER 76,000 MILES ON IT TELL ME IT NEED A NEW TIMING CHAIN. THE CRAMSHAFT POSITION HAS ISSUES. I TURNED THE CAR ON ONE DAY TO GO TO WORK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAN ON I'M BEING TOLD THAT'S THE ISSUE. I'M NOT UNDERSTANDING HOW A CAR 6 YEARS OLD NEEDS ENGINE WORK TO THIS EXTENT!?
THE VEHICLE BURNS OIL AND THE GAS PEDAL OCCASIONALLY STOPS WORKING WHILE DRIVING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS. I WAS DRIVING ON A STREET DOWNTOWN IN A CITY AND THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. I HAD TO RESTART THE CAR TO GET IT TO WORK AGAIN.
I CONTACTED CHEVROLET IN NOVEMBER 2018 ABOUT EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. MY CAR IS USUALLY 2.5 QUARTS LOW BY THE TIME 3000 MILES IS DRIVEN FROM THE LAST OIL CHANGE & I AM WORRIED MY ENGINE WILL LOCK UP. I DO ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND GET REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND SERVICE. THIS MODEL SHOULD NOT USE THAT MUCH OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. NOW, SINCE DEALING WITH THESE OTHER ISSUES, WHEN I COME TO A STOP, IT IDLES FROM ABOUT 700 DOWN TO 500 AND IT IDLES SO LOW, MY LIGHTS FLICKER & IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING TO CUT OFF. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET AGAIN,VIA PHONE, AND THEY TELL ME "UNFORTUNATELY IT'S NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND REPAIRS WILL BE OUT-OF-POCKET" I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT CHEVROLET WONT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS ENOUGH TO RECALL AND REPAIR THEM AS THEY SHOULD BE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED AT AROUND 114,000 MILES. WHILE THIS WAS ALL GOING ON, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WAS ALSO A RECALL, BUT NOT ON MY VEHICLE. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED THAT CHEVROLET WONT RECALL AND REPAIR MY VEHICLE. THIS IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING THAT THEY SHOULD TAKE CARE OF. HOW MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUES BEFORE THEY DO WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO SO THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY AND THEIR VEHICLES ARE IN PROPER WORKING AND DRIVING CONDITION SO THEY DON'T ENDANGER OTHERS FROM FAULTY PARTS?! WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, US RT 2, DURING A RAIN STORM, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP WITHOUT BEING HIT OR HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ONLY SEVEN MONTHS AGO WITH 60,000 MILES IT NOW HAS 68,000 MILES. A MECHANIC THAT LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE FOUND THAT THE WIPER TRANSMISSION HAD BROKEN AT THE CONNECTION TO THE MOTOR. .THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF A FAULTY PART. I HAVE ATTACHED THE REPAIR ORDER.
FRONT WINDSHIELD DEFROST NOT WORKING, ALL AIR COMES THRU FRONT AND FLOOR VENTS
ON THE HIGHWAY IN HIGH SPEED LANE IN A POURING RAIN WHEN THE WILNDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. I FELT THIS WAS LIFE THREATENING AS I COULD NOT SEE. BY THEE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE WITHOUT GETTING KILLED. I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN CANADA BUT NOT IN THE US. I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES IN MY LIFETIME AND NEVER DID I HAVE A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION LIKE THIS ONE. GM SHOULD RECALL THESE CARS AND REPAIR THIS SITUATION BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.
MY EQUINOX BEGAN "BUCKING" ONE EVENING ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. I HAVE CHANGED THE OIL REGULARLY (EVERY 5000 MILES) AND WAS UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL HAVING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC- HE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS ACTUALLY OIL IN THE TAILPIPE AND THAT THESE VEHICLES WERE KNOWN FOR HAVING OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. I ARRANGED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALER- I DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT AS IT WAS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN WITH THE ENGINE BUCKING AND POSSIBLY STALLING IN TRAFFIC. THE CHEVROLET DEALER HAD IT FOR THE WHOLE WEEK AND EVENTUALLY TOLD ME IT HAD "JUMPED TIMING". JOE THE SERVICE MANAGER AT CENTRAL CHEVROLET IN WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEE IF THERE WAS FURTHER DAMAGE - IE TO THE VALVES. SO THE NEXT CALL I GET IS FROM THE WARRANTY ADMINISTRATOR AT THE DEALER- SHE TELLS ME I NEED A NEW ENGINE AND THAT CHEVROLET WILL COVER 30% OF THE REPLACEMENT - WOULD I LIKE TO HAVE IT DONE? I ASK HER- WELL YOU TELL ME THEY WILL COVER 30% BUT 30% OF WHAT? SHE SAID THAT MY SHARE WOULD BE $ 5100. THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE- A VEHICLE WITH 48,000 MILES AND THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT SOUNDS LIKE CHEVROLET KNEW OF THE ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE AS EVIDENT BY THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND CLASS ACTION ONLINE. HAD THEY NOTIFIED OWNERS APPROPRIATELY AND HAD THE APPROPRIATE WARNING SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLES THEN THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS PEOPLE USE THESE VEHICLES TO TRANSPORT FAMILY MEMBERS TO SCHOOL, WORK, ETC. IF THESE VEHICLES RUN THIS WAY AND EVEN STALL IN TRAFFIC THEN THERE IS HUGE POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH. TAMATA RECALL MY 2012 CHEVY EQUINOX WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT OUT AS I WAS DRIVING ON BACKROADS TO WORK WITH LOW LIGHTING AND IN A STORM WHEN MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT OUT AS I TURNED THE SPEED UP BECAUSE IT BEGAN TO RAIN A LOT MORE. THE WIPER LINKAGES ARE HELD TOGETHER WITH CHEAP PLASTIC BUSHINGS THAT WILL FAIL INSTEAD OF USING LONGER LASTING HARDWARE LIKE A SHORT BOLT AND SELF LOCKING NUT TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING.

I HAD THE OIL CONSUMPTION SERVICES COMPLETED LAST OCTOBER 2017 AND THIS YEAR IN OCTOBER 2018 I HAD TO HAVE THE CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE REPLACED TO WHICH EVERYONE I KNOW WITH AN EQUINOX THAT IS OLDER THAN 2016 IS HAVING TO HAVE THIS PART REPLACED ON THEIR VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT WITH SUCH A DRASTIC AMOUNT OF VEHICLES HAVING THIS FIXED IF IT WASNT APART OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION PARTS TO HAVE REPLACED IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BECAUSE IT REALLY APPEARS TO BE A LARGELY REPLACED ITEM COSTING PEOPLE OVER $200 TO HAVE FIXED. THIS PART CAUSES YOUR VEHICLE WHEN AT LOWER SPEEDS TO STALL OUT OVER AND OVER UNTIL IT JUST WONT GO. IT STARTED WITH A ROUGH IDLE. THEN WHEN ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL OUT. FINALLY IT WOULD STALL WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS.

PURCHASED EQUINOX AT THE END OF JUNE WITH 85,557 MILES. FREQUENTLY CHECKED THE "OIL LIFE" PERCENTAGE. AT 25%, THE CAR STARTED MAKING AN AWFUL NOISE. AT FIRST IT WAS MAINLY WHEN I TURNED TO THE LEFT. IT ALSO MADE THE NOISE WHEN I ACCELERATED AND THEN GRADUALLY IT WAS NOISY NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION I TURNED. THE CAR WOULD LURCH WHEN IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT, EVEN WITH MY FOOT BARELY ON THE BRAKE. IT WAS EXTREMELY TERRIFYING. HAVE THIS CAR FOR LESS 3 MONTHS AND THIS IS HAPPENING??? TOOK TO MONRO FOR AN OIL CHANGE EVEN THOUGH THE OIL LIFE WAS ONLY AT 25%. MECHANIC WAS HESITANT TO DO THE OIL CHANGE UNLESS IT WAS 10% OR LESS. I INSISTED HE CHANGE IT ANYWAY, WITH SYNTHETIC PLEASE, DUE TO THE NOISE IT WAS MAKING AND HOW IT WAS ACTING. I WALKED AWAY TO DO KILL TIME WHEN I RECV'D A CALL FROM HIM INFORMING ME THAT HE WOULD NOT DO AN OIL CHANGE. HE WENT ON TO EXPLAIN THAT THE NOISE IT WAS MAKING WAS FROM SOMETHING KNOCKING (PISTONS, ROD) AND IF HE WERE TO DO AN OIL CHANGE, HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENGINE SHOULD IT "BLOW". HE WENT ON TO INFORM ME THAT THE ENGINE IS GOING TO BE NEEDED TO REPLACED, IT COULD "BLOW" IN 3 HOURS OR IN 3 MONTHS. IN TEARS, I ASKED HOW MUCH THAT WOULD (GUESSTIMATE) COST AND HE TOLD ME EASILY $5,000, HALF OF WHAT I PAID FOR THE [XXX] CAR. HIS LAST COMMENT TO ME WAS, "I WOULD SUGGEST YOU DRIVE RIGHT UP TO AUTOZONE AND PURCHASE 4 QUARTS OF OIL BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO OIL"!! REALLLY? MY OIL LIGHT DID NOT COME ON, MY PERCENTAGE WAS 25%.... WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN A RAINSTORM, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPED & GOT STUCK WHILE UP, AFFECTING VISIBILITY FOR THE DRIVER. THE VISIBILITY WAS NOT ONLY IMPACTED BY THE WIPER STUCK IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION, BUT WORSE BECAUSE OF THE RAINSTORM THAT WE NO LONGER HAD WIPERS TO HELP WITH. IT WAS A SCARY SITUATION GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND SUDDENLY LOSING VISIBILITY BECAUSE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT OPERATING. LUCKILY WE WERE ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TRYING TO GET THE WIPERS TO WORK AGAIN. WE WERE ABLE TO PUT THEM DOWN, BUT THEY WOULD NOT OPERATE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE WIPER MOTOR IS WORKING BUT THAT THE WIPER TRANSMISSION HAD CORRODED IN THE BALL JOINTS, LEADING TO THE WIPERS BECOMING INOPERABLE. FURTHERMORE, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WHILE THIS ISSUE IS RECALLED IN CANADA, ONLY THE 2013 MODELS ARE RECALLED IN THE USA, THOUGH OTHER YEARS AND MODELS ARE ALSO AFFECTED.

THIS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WAS HANDLED AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH IN THE FAST LANE. I HAD TO NAVIGATE, WITH NO VISIBILITY, OVER THREE LANES OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC LOOKING OUT MY BACK WINDOW - AS THE ONLY WAY TO JUDGE WHERE I WAS ON THE ROAD IN A HEAVY DOWNPOUR. THE REPAIR COST ME $368. I'VE DONE MY RESEARCH AND I'M SHOCKED TO SEE SO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I THANK MY LUCKY STARS THAT THIS WAS THE ONLY DAY I COMMUTED WITHOUT MY KIDS. WHY IS THERE A RECALL TO FIX THIS IN CANADA AND NOT HERE? CHEVY NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE THIS PROBLEM AND POSSIBLE SAVE LIVES WITH A RECALL, IMMEDIATELY. WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CHEVY PRODUCT.
