TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE BUT THE DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
DRIVER SIDE INTERNAL DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF LEAVING THE DOOR INOPERABLE UNLESS THE ELECTRIC WINDOW IS OPENED AND THE HAND PUT OVER THE DOOR AND OPENED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THIS IS ALSO A HAZARD BECAUSE IF THE CAR BATTERY IS DEAD THEN HOW DO YOU GET OUT OF THE CAR? *KB
THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN OFF COMPLETELY THERE IS NO WAY TO GET OUT OF THE CAR UNLESS YOU ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND THEY ARE ELECTRIC? NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE STILL HAS THE HANDLE BUT IT DOES NOT WORK EITHER? THEY ARE CHEAPLY MADE BUT SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 5-6 YEARS. SO AFTER CALLING CHEVROLET AND SEEING IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THIS ISSUE I WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT. SO I DID AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST 497.00 PER DOOR BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH INSIDE DOOR PANELS. IT IS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD AND THERE ARE NO BULLETINS TO FIX THIS? WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET IN AN ACCIDENT AND MY WINDOWS DON'T GO DOWN BECAUSE THEY ARE ELECTRIC? THIS TO ME IS A SAFETY HAZARD! I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF MY CAR! I CALL IT MY KIDNAPPING CAR BECAUSE YOU CAN GET IN BUT YOU CAN'T GET OUT UNLESS YOU ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND USE THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. *TR
1. I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN MY 2006 CHEVY HHR HAD THE POWER STEERING COME ON THE CONSOLE AND THEN THE STEERING BECAME VERY HARD. 2. AFTER SHUTTING CAR OFF FOR A BIT, IT FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT WAS BACK 20 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. 3. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THAT WHILE THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR THE HHR, IT IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE GM CARS RECALLS. I GUESS THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE HHR DRIVERS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO.... I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 HHR. WHILE TRYING TO EXIT OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE IN MY HAND SO NOW ANYONE SITTING THERE HAS TO OPEN THE WINDOW AN REACH OUT AND OPEN THE DOOR (OR SOMEONE HAS TO OPEN FOR THEM). THE OTHER PROBLEM I JUST ENCOUNTERED IS THAT THE "DOOR OPEN" MESSAGE AND DINGING NOISE KEEPS COMING UP WHILE I AM DRIVING. THE DOOR IS NOT OPEN! ALSO, THE RADIO WON'T SHUT OFF WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND OPEN THE DOOR. WHEN PUSHING THE INSIDE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, ALL THE DOORS LOCK EXCEPT THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IT GOES DOWN, BUT COMES BACK UP. MY MECHANIC THINKS IT IS A DOOR LATCH PROBLEM. ALSO THE ALARM GOES OFF BY ITSELF AFTER LOCKING THE CAR WITH THE REMOTE. I WAS AWOKEN AT 3:00 AM TO THE SOUND OF MY CAR GOING OFF, THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! GM NEEDS TO DO SOME RECALLS ON THESE ITEMS, AS I SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE SAME ITEMS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DRIVERS DOOR THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE DETACHED FROM THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE, AND THE DOOR PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION WHEN IN PARK DUE TO A PLASTIC PART IN THE SHIFTER BREAKING. THIS WILL NOT ALLOW THE SHIFT LOCK ACTUATOR TO ENGAGE AND RELEASE THE KEYS. THERE IS AN IGNITION UNLOCKING MECHANISM UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN BUT THAT LEAVES THE GEAR SHIFTER ABLE TO MOVE FREELY FROM GEAR AT ALL TIMES, EVEN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS OCCURS EVERYDAY. THE DEALER REPLACES AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED ON 2006 CHEVY HHR LT1. DEALER STATES POWER STEERING MOTOR FOR COBALT HAS BEEN RECALLED, SO NOT SURE WHY THE HHR HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2006 CHEVY HHR. CAR WILL JERK LIKE YOU REALIZED THE CLUTCH TOO FAST, HOWEVER IT IS AN AUTOMATIC THEN STALL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. ON 1/27/10 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK CAR TO THE SHOP, AFTER HAVING A COMPLETE TUNE UP, IGNITION MODULE CHANGE AND A COIL CHANGE THE CAR WILL NO LONGER STAY STARTED UNLESS YOU ARE GIVING THE GAS PEDAL CONSTANT CONTACT. THE CODE COMING UP SAYS IT'S A MISFIRING IN THE CYLINDER BUT THE SHOP CAN NOT FIND THAT. THERE IS OIL IN THE INTAKE BUT NO WATER IN THE OIL. I'M SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN PARTS ONLY ALREADY. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE. IT WILL NOT DRIVE IN REVERSE WITHOUT HEAVY PRESSURE ON THE GAS WHILE TRYING TO BRAKE WITH YOUR LEFT FOOT AND LOOK TO DRIVE IT BACKWARDS. *LN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEN THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR BY USING THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE AFTER OPENING THE WINDOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIANS ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE DOOR PANEL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,800.
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2006 CHEVY HHR RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING. THE DASH LIGHT SAYS "POWER STEERING" WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS HAPPENS TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK ON AVERAGE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TWICE WHILE TURNING ALMOST CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO RETAINING WALLS ON THE HIGHWAY ON RAMPS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE HHR. A TEMPORARY FIX FOR THIS ISSUE IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THE PROBLEM WILL RETURN AT RANDOM TIMES. CHEVROLET RECALLED COBALT'S THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY CHEVROLET WON'T ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
CHEVROLET HHR 2006. POWER STEERING WARNING DISPLAYS ON THE INFO DISPLAY INDICATING THAT THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED. STEERING BECOMES SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY AT SLOWER SPEEDS. POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY RESUMES ONCE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. POWER STEERING WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL AGAIN AT RANDOM INTERVALS. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON THE 2006 CHEVROLET HHR FELL OFF. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL JUST FOR THE CHEAP PLASTIC HANDLE FOR APPROXIMATELY $500.00. IF I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN, I COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE BECAUSE I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. OR IF THE CAR WERE ON FIRE, I SIMPLY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ESCAPE. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ITEM AS THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY FACTOR. A BIGGER SAFETY FACTOR THAT THE LATCH ON THE POP UP MIDDLE CONSOLE ON THE CHEVY HHR THAT WAS RECALLED BACK IN 2008 (I THINK). THERE ARE BLOGS ALL OVER THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM A SINGLE WORKING GIRL WHO SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD A $500 INTERIOR DOOR PANEL REPLACEMENT FOR A CHEAP PLASTIC HANDLE BECAUSE THIS IS NOT REASONABLE. I TRIED TO GET CHEVY TO REPLACE IT AND THEY SIMPLY SAID THEY WOULD GIVE ME A $40 DISCOUNT. THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!! I BOUGHT THE CAR BE CAUSE IT WAS ECONOMICAL AND NOT ONE THING ABOUT THIS REPLACEMENT SOUNDS ECONOMICAL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD LEAD TO A DEATH. *TR
2006 CHEVROLET HHR. CONSUMER STATES SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HIS SONS VEHICLE HAD A SEVERE SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED TWICE AND THE THIRD TIME THE ROTORS WERE MACHINED, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THERE WAS ALSO A STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION, BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. AT 42,000 MILES THE AIR CONDITION MADE A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE FOR 2 MINUTES, THEN STOPPED WORKING. AT 68,000 MILES, A METAL SKID PLATE HAD FALLEN FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. SOON AFTER, THE EXHAUST WAS VERY LOUD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD CRACKED. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND A CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN GO OFF, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DID NOT WORK, SO THE AIR CONDITION ONLY WORKED IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF. THE DOOR LOCKS DID NOT WORK, THE RADIO WORKED INTERMITTENTLY, THE SUN VISOR WOULD FALL DOWN AT RANDOM TIMES. THERE WERE TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONSUMER STATED EVEN WITH AN ALIGNMENT, NEW STRUTS, SHOCKS AND GOOD TIRES, THE VEHICLE CONTINUALLY PULLED TO THE RIGHT. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR PANEL INTERIOR WAS INTERFERING WITH THE OPENING OF THE DOOR. SHE ALSO MENTIONED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO WIND DOWN THE WINDOW IN ORDER TO OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE INTERIOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. UPDATED 3/7/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE/SHE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR, UNLESS HE STUCK HIS HAND OUT THE WINDOW TO OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND LOSE POWER STEERING ABILITY. NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. NO EXCESSIVE TURNING. TURN OFF CAR AND IT WILL BE FINE FOR A FEW MILES AND THEN DO IT AGAIN. UNABLE TO STEER VEHICLE VERY WELL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER A SEVERE RAIN, THERE WAS AN ACCUMULATION OF TWO INCHES OF WATER ON THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WATER LEAKED IN THROUGH THE HEATER DUCTS. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED THAT THE CARPET BE REPLACED DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF MOLD GROWING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000. UPDATED 06/17/11*LJ THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE SEAL CAME OFF AORUND THE HEATER SWITCH WHICH ALLOWED WATER TO GET IN THE HEATER AND CAUSED THE MOTOR TO ONLY HAVE ONE SPEED. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO INFORMED THE CARPET WOULD NEVER DRY AND EVENTUALLY, IT WOULD GROW MOLD. UPDATED 06/21/11

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT IT WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000.
THE VEHICLE IS A 2006 CHEVY HHR WITH APPROXIMATELY 46000 MILES. THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GOES OUT AS I AM DRIVING AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. WHEN THIS HAPPENS DURING A TURN IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND I HAVE ALMOST RUN INTO OTHER VEHICLES. AFTER RESTARTING IT USUALLY WORKS, BUT IS SUBJECT TO GOING OUT AGAIN AT ANY MOMENT WITHOUT WARNING. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET, BUT THEY DENIED KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH THE COBALT HAS THE SAME ELECTRIC STEERING AND A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. HAVING RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS, AND I SEE NO REASON FOR CHEVY TO WAIT UNTIL A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. *TR
I SHIFTED MY CAR INTO PARK BUT THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER DID NOT RELEASE. BECAUSE THE BUTTON WAS STUCK, I COULD NOT TURN MY CAR OFF NOR COULD I REMOVE MY KEY. FURTHERMORE, WHILE DRIVING, THE SHIFTER CAN POTENTIALLY BE MOVED FROM DRIVE TO ANY OTHER POSITION WITHOUT THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER BEING PRESSED. I FOUND A "RELEASE" BUTTON UNDER A COVER ON MY STEERING COLUMN WHICH ALLOWS ME TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND REMOVE MY KEY, BUT THAT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT THE SHIFTER CAN BE MOVED ACCIDENTALLY WHILE DRIVING. THE BRAKE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE TO BE PRESSED TO CHANGE THE POSITION OF THE SHIFTER.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IF YOU STOP TURN OFF IGNITION THEN RESTART IT WILL WORK AGAIN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME THEN GO OUT AGAIN. I CALLED MY DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID IT IS COMMON BUT THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.BUT KEEP MY RECEIPT TO BE REIMBURSED IF THERE IS A RECALL . IS ANYTHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? I WATCHED A PROGRAM LAST NIGHT WERE THIS IS HAPPENING NOT JUST TO THE HHR BUT ALSO THE COBALT, AND PT CRUISER. WHY IS THE HHR NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS? THEY SHOWED ON THE SHOW THAT PEOPLE ARE DYEING FROM THIS. ONE MOTHER LOST 2 DAUGHTERS. MY DEALER SAYS THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WHAT CAN I DO? *TR

VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. DOCUMENTATION EXISTS ONLINE THAT THIS MOTOR IS THE SAME ONE RECALLED ON THE CHEVROLET COBALT, AND THAT OTHER ARE HAVING THE SAME FAILURE. HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10-12 TIMES OVER TWO WEEKS AND A TOTAL MILEAGE OF ABOUT 40 MILES. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER STEERING MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER; THE CHECK ENGINE AND POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT PULLED OFF THE ROAD, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN POWER STEERING; HOWEVER THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND MAKES TURNING ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE AND DANGEROUS WHEN HAPPENING ON THE HIGHWAYS. IT IS NOW HAPPENING ALL OF THE TIME AND I HAVE ONLY MADE ONE PAYMENT ON THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!! *TR
I OWN A 2006 CHEVY HHR LT. THANKSGIVING DAY I WENT TO MOVE MY CAR OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I TRIED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVER DOOR CAME OFF IN MY HAND. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I EVEN WALKED UP TO ANOTHER HHR I SAW ON A PARKING LOT AND IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. MY SAFELY CONCERN IS THAT I CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT ROLLING DOWN MY WINDOW AND REACHING OUTSIDE THE CAR TO THE EXTERIOR HANDLE. IF I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAD A ELECTRICAL FAILURE I COULD NOT EXIT THE CAR BECAUSE I COULD NOT ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW. EVERYTHING I HAVE FOUND IN MY RESEARCH IS THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT RECGONIZING THIS AS A REAL PROBLEM AND FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN/READ THEY HAVE BEEN UNWILLING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WHEN IT OCCURS OR HELP THE VEHICLE OWNERS IN ANY WAY. I HAVE CHECKED ON THE REPAIR AND FOUND THAT THE DOOR HANDLE ITSELF CAN NOT BE REPLACED THAT YOU HAVE TO BUY AN ENTIRE DOOR PANEL FOR OVER $400 AND THAT IS JUST THE PART, NO LABOR. HOW CAN THIS BE A KNOWN PROBLEM, AND CHEVROLET NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT? THE INABILITY TO EXIT MY VEHICLE IN THE AFTERMATH OF AN ACCIDENT GREATLY CONCERNS ME AND SHOULD CONCERN CHEVROLET ESPECIALLY WITH THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ONLINE OF THIS ISSUE OCCURRING. *TR

MY KEY CONTINUES TO GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO THIS HAPPENED AND I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER,THEY CHARGED ME $50.00 TO GET THE KEY OUT THEY SAY THEY GREASED THE IGNITION I GUESS. INSIDE FRONT DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKE, ONE HAS BEEN BROKE FOR A WHILE, IF I'M IN THE CAR AND SOMETHING HAPPENS IT BECOMES A DEATH TRAP. I CHECKED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN THIS IS A COMMON ONGOING PROBLEM WITH HHR'S. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YEAR IT IS, PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT AND ONE PERSON TRADED HIS IN BECAUSE HIS WIFE GOT STUCK IN THE CAR. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT GM APPARENTLY HAS BEEN AWARE OF BUT DID NOTHING. I GUESS THEY ARE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR NOT IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM YOU CAN'T OPEN THE DOOR.

THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE FAILURE WAS NOT RECALLED AND THAT THEY WILL NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 70,648.
2006 CHEVROLET HHR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FAILURES. IN MY INSTANCE THE PLASTIC HANDLE THAT IS USED TO OPEN THE DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BROKE OFF. THIS IS A WIDELY COMPLAINED ABOUT ISSUE ON THE WEB. IF YOU GOOGLE "HHR DRIVERS SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKEN" YOU GET 1000'S OF PEOPLE DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE. THE COST TO REPAIR IS VERY HIGH AND PEOPLE ARE NOT DOING IT. CHEVY DOES NOT SELL JUST THE PLASTIC PART, THEY REQUIRE YOU TO PURCHASE AN ENTIRE ASSEMBLY, THE COST RUNS NEARLY $600 WITH LABOR FOR A PLASTIC PART. THE ISSUE IS THAT DEALERSHIPS DO NOT STOCK THIS PART, THEY NEED TO ORDER IT AND IT TAKES TIME, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE ONLY WAY TO EXIT THE CAR IS TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE, SO THAT REQUIRES ROLLING A WINDOW DOWN AND OPENING IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. IF YOU NEEDED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN A HURRY, SUCH AS AFTER AN ACCIDENT, YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO SO. THIS IS A GREAT CONCERN. BESIDES THE FACT THAT THIS IS BEING REPORTED AS A PROBLEM AND CHEVY IS NOT TRYING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION, OR TO EVEN PROVIDE THE PART OUTSIDE OF PURCHASING THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. *TR

THE POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FIRST POWERED ON, POWER STEERING IS PRESENT. IT IS UNPREDICTABLE WHEN THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL. IN TWO INCIDENTS IT ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS WHEN FAILING. I DO NOT HAVE A LARGE FRAME NOR A LOT OF UPPER BODY STRENGTH THAT IS ABLE TO MAKE TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS WHEN TURNING OR PARKING. IF I AM AWARE OF THE POWER STEERING FAILURE I CAN COMPENSATE FOR IT, BUT IF IT HAPPENS SUDDENLY, IT CAN BE QUITE SURPRISING. THIS IS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE SAME EXACT COMPONENT AS THE CHEVY COBALT AND THE PONTIAC G5, AND I UNDERSTAND OTHER VEHICLES ARE REPORTING THIS AS WELL.
MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING DOESN'T WORK. MY HHR IS EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY FOUND IN THE COBALT WHICH HAS A RECALL ISSUED. SEEMS STUPID TO ME THAT A LIGHTER CAR WOULD BENEFIT FROM THE RECALL, WHILE I AM NOW GOING TO BE STUCK WITH A LARGE REPAIR BILL. KEY STUCK IN IGNITION. UNABLE TO REMOVE WITHOUT USING THE RELEASE BUTTON UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WAS ADVISED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT IS NOT GOING COMPLETELY INTO PARK, THEREFORE THE KEY WILL NOT RELEASE. WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT MY CAR IS NOT LOCKED IN ANY ONE POSITION, SO WHILE DRIVING THE SHIFTER WILL SWITCH FROM DRIVE TO NATURAL. NO WORK DONE TO FOSTLY, CONTACTED DEALER WHO ADVISED SAME ISSUE ON 2009 HHR'S AND THEY ARE BEING RECALLED, BUT MO OPEN RECALL ON 2006 AT THIS TIME. *TT

IN ADDITION, THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE DEFECTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2006 CHEVY HHR LT, WHILE DRIVING AT A POSTED SPEED OF 45MPH, DAUGHTER LOST POWER STEERING SENDING HER INTO THE CURB ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER CAR THEN INTO THE CURB AGAIN. SHE WAS TERRIFIED BY THIS INCIDENT. MY HUSBAND WENT TO PICK HER UP AND HE DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO OUR HOUSE, AND WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH, AGAIN THE POWER STEERING FAILED, AND HE ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE WALL BUT WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITHIN INCHES OF CRASHING. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT HAS NOW COME ON SEVERAL TIMES, AND THE STEERING HAS GONE OUT WHILE DRIVING THREE TIMES THUS FAR. IN ADDITION THE GEAR SHIFT HAS BECOME A PROBLEM AGAIN WHERE IT LOCKS, AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD THIS REPLACED 3 TIMES, EACH TIME LASTING ABOUT A YEAR BEFORE THE PROBLEM REOCCURS. I HAVE READ THAT SEVERAL OTHER 2006 MODELS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME POWER STEERING PROBLEM, SEVERAL OF THEM RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS. ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BE KILLED BEFORE EXPANDING THE RECALL TO INCLUDE THE STEERING ON THE 2006 CHEVY HHR? *TR
TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND THE DASHBOARD GAUGES ALL WENT OUT. PULLED THE FUSE AND REINSERTED IT - PROBLEM CORRECTED. T/C INDICATOR ON INSTRUMENT PANEL CAME ON AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS UPSHIFTING HARD. AGAIN, I REMOVED AND REINSTALLED THE FUSES AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. POWER STEERING WARNING WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DASH AND THE POWER STEERING WAS DISABLED. I REMOVED AND REINSTALLED THE FUSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE POWER STEERING AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. I DID NOTICE THAT MOST OF THE FUSES WERE MILDLY OXIDIZED ON ONE LEG OF EACH FUSE. *TR
