TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2006 CHEVROLET HHR LT WAS HAVING BRAKING SYSTEM PROBLEMS. THIS STARTED IN JANUARY 2007 WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT AND LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT TURNING ON. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE VEHICLE, THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, AND THEY REPAIRED THE WIRE HARNESS THAT SHORTED OUT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED HIM THAT THE WIRE HARNESS FAILED BECAUSE OF A MISTAKE MADE BY THE SERVICE MECHANIC, AND THAT WAS WHY IT HAD TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE GOT THE VEHICLE BACK AND DROVE IT FOR A WEEK, THEN THE RED BRAKE LIGHT TURNED ON AND A YELLOW LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE ABS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 02/07/07,AND THEY STILL HAD THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY THOUGHT ITWAS DUE TO THE WEATHER, BUT WERE NOT SURE WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4100 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3700.*AK
THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ON OUR CHEVY HHR LOCKED UP WHEN ATTEMPTING A NORMAL STOP, AND STAYED IN THE LOCKED POSITION EVEN AFTER FINALLY COMING TO A STOP. IF NOT FOR A TURNING LANE BEING OPEN A COLLISION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WENT WRONG, BUT I NEED TO POST THIS AND SEE IF OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *NM
INITIALLY, I HAD INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH MY 2006 CHEVY HHR. THE KEY SWITCH WOULDN'T TURN ALL THE WAY OFF TO RELEASE THE KEY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY "COULDN'T MAKE IT DO IT" (FOR WHICH THEY HAVE A RECORD). AFTER ABOUT A YEAR-AND-A HALF OF THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, MY KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AT ALL. I WAS OUT OF TOWN, STAYING AT A HOTEL AND HAD TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION OVERNIGHT. I READ MY OWNERS MANUAL AND FOUND THE HIDDEN RELEASE BUTTON IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND BECAUSE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY, I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR THAT IS DUE TO POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS TO SEE IF WAS RECALLED, I HAVE UNCOVERED NUMEROUS CHEVROLET HHR OWNERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, AND IT IS A FAULTY SHIFT LINKAGE. THIS ITEM NEEDS TO BE ON THE RECALL LIST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR LT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO ASSIST WITH REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,017.
GOOD DAY. I'LL KEEP THIS BRIEF. TO BE CLEAR, I WENT TO THE DEALER (AUTONATION USA) WITH THE RECALL ISSUE SHORTLY AFTER IT OCCURRED THE FIRST TIME, AND A COUPLE OF OTHER TIMES AFTER THAT. I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS TOO SHORT, FAT, AND MY KNEE WAS KNOCKING THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. MY KEY NEVER FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION, BUT THE CAR DID SHUT OFF, LOSING CONTROL OF ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WHILE AT 70+ MPH. SECONDLY, I HAVE GONE IN TO THE DEALER FOR MY TRANSMISSION AS WELL. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIGHTLY JERK AT AROUND 60K MILES. I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING, HOWEVER, THEY NEVER CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION, AND I WAS TOLD THEY COULD DO NOTHING. WHEN THE MATTER GOT REALLY BAD, THE MILEAGE WAS OVER 100K, AND OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION THAT I ATTEMPTED TO CLEAR THIS UP PRIOR, AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE TO TREAT IT AS A NEW ISSUE. I'LL MAKE IT EASY. WHEN I HAVE HAD THE IGNITION ISSUES NEARLY KILL MY FAMILY AND MYSELF ON MORE THAN 30 OCCURRENCES, THE DEALER FIXING A SMALL, INEXPENSIVE ITEM, BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED, DOES LITTLE TO QUELL THE ANGER I HAVE REGARDING THE VARIOUS OTHER ISSUES I HAVE REGARDING WARRANTY MAINTENANCE THEY COULD HAVE COMPLETED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, AND INSTEAD CHOSE TO BELITTLE ME AND NOW WISH TO CHARGE ME OBSCENE AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO REPAIR. GM SHOULD OFFER TO COMPLETE THE MAINTENANCE AT NO COST CONSIDERING I HAVE GONE TO THEM PRIOR TO THE CLOSE OF THE WARRANTY AND WAS RIDICULED AND FURTHER, MADE TO HAVE MY FAMILY'S LIFE IN DANGER 30-40 TIMES SO THEY COULD SAVE SOME MONEY. FURTHER, I UNDERSTAND IT IS NOT LEGALLY REQUIRED FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING, HOWEVER, DOING THE RIGHT THING GOES A LONG WAY. I HAVE SPOKEN TO GM ABOUT THE ISSUES A COUPLE OF TIMES NOW ONLY JUST SIMPLY BE TOLD THEY WERE SORRY AND I SHOULD HAVE THE SITUATION DIAGNOSED (NEEDLESSLY). 2006 HHR LT. HISTORY OF ABS/BRAKE/FRONT END COMPONENT FAILURES AND ELECTRONIC MALFUNCTIONS SINCE PURCHASE IN WINTER OF 2005. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES STEERING WHEEL SHOOK HARD FROM L TO R AND BRAKES GRABBED/RELEASED. DEALER FOUND ROTORS WARPED AT LESS THAN 10K MILES. WARRANTY REPAIR/RESURFACE. PROBLEMS CONTINUED: ABS ENGAGED ON DRY PAVEMENT UNDER 10 MPH BUT WOULD NOT ENGAGE AT ROAD SPEEDS WITH BRAKES HEAVILY APPLIED. AT SAME TIME, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. ASE CERTIFIED GM MECHANICS TOLD ME THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE - UNTIL SERVICE MANAGER TEST DROVE AND CONCLUDED PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR; CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. CLAIM OPENED/RESOLVED WITH GM. DEALER FOUND DEFECTIVE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY (LEFT) THAT CAUSED ABS FAILURE BELOW 8K MILES. (NO ACCIDENT) NEXT FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE RIGHT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY AND AN ACCIDENT RESULTED. GM AND THE DEALER CLAIM NO DEFECT BUT ONLY ERROR CODE IS RIGHT FRONT ABS FAILURE WITH PRIOR 7 PAGES HISTORY OF ABS/BRAKE/ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS (SUBMITTED TO INS COMPANY AND GM AND IN POSSESSION OF THE DEALER). THIS FAILURE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE WHEELS/RIMS/UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE. GM AND THE DEALER CONCLUDED - WITHOUT BENCH TESTING THE RIGHT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY - THAT THERE WAS NO DEFECT; HOWEVER, THE ONLY ERROR CODE RECORDED IS AN ABS FAILURE (CLAIM OPENED WITH GM). GM AND DEALER HAVE CALLED TO SEE HOW THE VEHICLE IS DOING - I DECLINED TO COMMIT SAYING THAT I WOULD BE MAKING A DETERMINATION AS TO THE VEHICLE'S PERFORMANCE SHORTLY. GOOD THING - THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES FROM LEFT TO RIGHT ON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES PULSE AS IF THE WHEELS ARE NO LONGER ROUND (GRAB AND RELEASE). THESE ARE THE SAME SYMPTOMS THAT OCCURRED WHEN THE ROTORS WHEN OUT OF SPEC. IT IS MY SUSPICION THAT THE ROTORS HAVE AGAIN GONE OUT OF SPEC AND THAT THE ABS/BRAKING COMPONENT FAILURES ARE CONTINUING WITH THIS VEHICLE. I AM ABOUT TO TAKE THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR EVALUATION. *JB
KEY LOCKS IN THE IGNITION AND WILL NOT RELEASE, IT TOOK REPEATED ATTEMPS AT FIRST OF CYCLING THE KEY OFF AND ON TO GET IT TO RELEASE AFTER A WEEK OR TWO THE PROPLEM BECAME WORSE TO THE POINT OF THE THE SHIFTER HAD TO BE CYCLED FROM PARK TO LOW AND BACK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE KEY WOULD LOCK AND RELEASE FROM THE STEERING COLLUM, AFTER A FEW DAYS THIS DIDN'T WORK,THE PROBLEM THEN WAS MENTIONED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS "COMMON" WITH THIS MODEY OF HHR. HAD I NOT BEEN A MECHANIC THE VEHICLE WOULD BE STUCK WERE EVER THE PROBLEM OCCURED, I TEMPERALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM BY GOING UNDER THE STEERING COLLUM AND PULLING A COVER OFF ABOUT A INCH DOWN FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND PUSHING THE ROD TO THE LEFT ABOUT A QUARTER OF AN INCH TO GET THE KEY TO LOCK AND RELEASE THE KEY WHERE THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN AND LOCKED TO PREVENT THEFT. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS HAVE FAILED FIVE TIMES. THE FAILURE TYPICALLY OCCURS IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER EACH TIME AND THEY STATED THAT FUSE 69 CONTINUES TO FAIL; HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT OFFER AN EXPLANATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,059.
WHILE RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF A 2006 CHEVROLET HER FOR A PERIOD OF ABOUT 2 HOURS I RECEIVED 2ND DEGREE BURNS TO POSTERIOR. CHECK OF THE SEAT BY CHEVY DEALER THE NEXT WEEK REPORTED NO PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT HEATER. IT HAS BEEN A MONTH AND I AM STILL RECOVERING FROM THE BURNS AND HAVE HAD MEDICAL TREATMENT TWICE WEEKLY . I HAVE RIDDING OVER 25,000 MILES (MOSTLY IN THE DRIVERS SEAT) AND THE SEAT HEATERS HAVE BEEN ON THE BIGGEST PART OF THE TIME OVER THE PAST YEAR. BUT THIS TWO HOUR STINT CAUSED ME SEVERE BURNS. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AFTER IT WAS DRIVEN TWO MILES. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED IN THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE STARTER. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,860 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE ROTOR KEEPS WARPING AND THE VEHICLE PULLS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER TWICE, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 18,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.
FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPING. HAD THEM CUT TWICE AT DEALER. OUT OF WARRANTY KNOW, I WAITED TO LONG FOR THE 3 RD. FIX ( FAMILY EMG.) KNOW I HAVE TO PAY. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE PULLING TO THE RIGHT SIDE. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS LYING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THE STEERING KNUCKLE FRACTURED INTO, AND CAUSED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE TO ROLL UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHILE ATTACHED TO THE REMAINING HALF OF THE STEERING KNUCKLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
ONE DAY THE RADIO WOULD NOT CHANGE STATIONS, I USED THE CONTROL ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND RADIO TURNED UP ALL THE WAY AND WOULD NOT TURN DOWN UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER THEY TESTED AND ORDERED A NEW RADIO. NOT INSTALLED YET. A FEW DAYS LATER THE INTERIOR LIGHTS GOT REAL DIM AND WOULD NOT GET BRIGHTER UNLESS I TURNED THE AUTO LIGHTS OFF. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. ABOUT A WEEK LATER,WENT OUT TO START THE CAR IT WOULD NOT START AND THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION, CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE THEY JUMPED IT AND TOOK IT TO DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS A LOOSE GROUND. THE RADIO QUIT WORKING ALL TOGETHER. TWO DAYS LATER IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN SO I JUMPED IT AND IT STARTED. THE RADIO STARTED WORKING AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. FOUR DAYS LATER CAR WOULD NOT START AND WE CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AGAIN. THEY CAME AND JUMPED IT AND TOWED IT TO DEALER AGAIN WHERE IT IS NOW. *JB
2006 CHEVY HHR, KEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF IN IGNITION SWITCH. READ OWNERS BOOK FOUND LITTLE DOORWAY TO OPEN WITH BUTTON TO BYPASS PARKING SWITCH. BOOK SAID LOW VOLTAGE, CHECKED VOLTAGE WAS FINE, BUT COULD WIGGLE GEAR SHIFT AND KEY WOULD TURN OFF. NOW BUTTON ON GEARSHIFT STAYS IN AND EVEN WITH KEY OUT OF IGNITION IF YOU BUMP THE GEARSHIFT IT FALLS OUT OF PARK. NOT A REAL SAFE FEATURE WITH REMOTE STARTING. HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. BUT IS RAMPANT ON THE INTERNET, AND MY PERSONAL DEALER SAID THEY HAVE HAD TO FIX A LOT OF HHR'S AND COBALT GEARSHIFTS. SO MANY IN FACT THAT THEY HAVE MADE A NEW AND IMPROVED PART BECAUSE OF THE ORIGINAL FAILING MULTIPLE TIMES. THAT IS FINE FOR THE VEHICLES IN WARRANTY, BUT THE OTHER THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF ONES THEY WONT FIX BECAUSE THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL AS OF NOW. THIS IS ABOUT LIKE THE FORDS OF THE SEVENTIES. I AM AFRAID SOMEONE WILL BE INJURED BEFORE IT IS RESOLVED. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT A FREEWAY AT 55 MPH THE VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND VEERED OFF THE ROAD BEFORE IT WAS STOPPED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS LYING ON ITS SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 09/11/06. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WHICH WAS A RESULT OF THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF FOR FIFTEEN TO TWENTY MINUTES BEFORE THE POWER STEERING RESET ITSELF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST HAD FAILED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THERE ARE MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE BEEN IGNORED BY BOTH THE DEALER WE BOUGHT IT FROM AND G.M. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THESE ISSUES RESOLVED TO NO AVAIL. G.M. IS DOING THE WAITING GAME SO I EVENTUALLY GET TIRED OF COMPLAINING AND STOP. HOWEVER THE LONG TERM IS I HAVE INFLUENCED MY CHILDREN,NIECES AND NEPHEWS(ALL OF WHOM ARE THE FUTURE OF CONSUMERS TO PURCHASE NEW VEHICLES) TO STAY AWAY FROM ALL G.M. PRODUCTS AFTER I KNOW MY FAMILY WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY MIDWAY CHEV. IN PHX,AZ AND BY G.M.(WHO PRODUCED THIS VEHICLE IN MX. WHEN I ASKED WHERE IT WAS MADE I WAS TOLD U.S.),NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER BUY A NEW CAR AFTER ALL THIS. DOOR HANDLE BREAKS,BRAKES ARE BAD,G.M. USED THE CHEAPEST STUFF TO MANUFACTURE THESE CARS AND THE CHEAPEST LABOR IN ANOTHER COUNTRY (TAKING FROM THE AMERICAN WAYS OF SUPPORTING OUR OWN). I HAVE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET A HOLD OF THE MAIN NUMBER TO G.M. AND CANNOT GET A DIRECT NUMBER. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 2006. AFTER 7500 MILES, HHR IS DEMONSTRATING STARTER/IGNITION PROBLEMS. AS OPPOSED TO NEW VEHICLE, IT NOW TAKES BETWEEN 3-7 SECONDS OR MORE, TO GET VEHICLE TO START. INITIALLY, VEHICLE STARTED IMMEDIATELY WITH KEY AND REMOTE STARTER. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT CHRONIC. A VEHICLE SHOULD NOT TAKE THIS MUCH CRANKING TO START. *NM
FIRESTONE SIDEWALL TIRE FAILURE. ON 7/22/06 ON I 95, FLAGLER COUNTY, FLORIDA. WE EXPERIENCED A SIDEWALL TIRE FAILURE ON A 2006 CHEVY, HHR WITH 1942 MILES. THE TIRE PRESSURE AS TESTED ON 7/19/06 WAS 34 PSI +/- 1 PSI. THERE IS NO INDICATION OF ROAD HAZARD, THE TIRE HAS BEEN SECURED BY ME. THE DEALER, TOM GIBBS CHEVY OF FLAGLER COUNTY EXPRESSED NO INTEREST IN PURSUING THE SAFETY FACTOR OF THE FAILURE, SO I AM. THE TIRE IS A FIRESTONE, GTA 03, FIREHAWK SIZE P215/50R17 90T M&S. SEVERAL MECHANICS VISUALLY INSPECTED SAME AND ALL CAME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION. AS YET, THIS TIRE HAS NOT BEEN LISTED ON A RECALL NOTICE. ANOTHER SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS TIRE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. THE TIRE HAS BEEN SECURED AS POTENTIAL EVIDENCE. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, A NOISE EMITTED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE ALSO RECURRED WHEN ENCOUNTERING A BUMP OR POTHOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHERE THE STABILIZER LINK, SWAY BAR AND BUSHINGS, AND FRONT STRUTS WERE REPLACED. THE REPAIR COSTS WOULD EXCEED $2,000. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAS COPIES OF THE VEHICLE'S REPAIR HISTORY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
THE OUTSIDE TEMP INDICATOR STOPPED WORKING. THE DEALER REPLACED A "BODY CONTROL MODULE" THIS CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO STOP WORKING. 1 "ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE" WAS INSTALLED. PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. A SECOND ECM WAS INSTALLED AND THE CRUISE ONCE AGAIN WORKS, HOWEVER NOW MY DRIVING LIGHTS NO LONGER WORK. 2006 CHEVY HHR SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS SAFELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD EACH TIME. ON THREE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY WHEN IT WAS PUT INTO NEUTRAL; ON THE FORTH OCCASION THE VEHICLE SAT FOR 45 MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTED WHILE IN PARK. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AFTER EACH FAILURE. THE DEALER INSTALLED AN EVENT DATA RECORDER IN THE VEHICLE TO BE MANUALLY STARTED IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE. THE EDR DID RECORD THE FOURTH FAILURE HOWEVER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM.
I BOUGHT MY HHR IN APRIL 1006. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 5,000 MILES WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THAT FALL, IN SEPTEMBER 2006, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SHUDDER EVERY TIME I APPLIED THEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE GROUND AND TURNED. HE DID THIS AND THE VEHICLE WAS FINE UNTIL THE NEXT SUMMER (2007) WHEN IT BEGAN TO SHUDDER AGAIN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED. THIS TIME I HAD TO HAVE BOTH THE PADS AND THE ROTORS REPLACED. IN FALL 2008, HE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUDDER AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND THE ROTORS ONE AGAIN NEEDED TO BE GROUND AND TURNED AND ONE SHOCK WAS LEAKING. I STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR EVERY DAY AND ALTERNATELY DROVE MY PICKUP AND THE BRAKES LASTED BEYOND THE ONE YEAR MARK. HOWEVER, IN 2010, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SHUDDER AGAIN AND I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR IN AND HAVE THE ROTORS GROUND AND TURNED AGAIN. IT IS NOW MARCH 2012 AND HE BRAKES ARE BAD AGAIN. I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR IN THE SUMMER BECAUSE THE WARM WEATHER SEEMS TO MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE. ALSO, BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE ISSUE, I HAVE HAD TO PUT TWO NEW SETS OF TIRES ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO ABNORMAL WEAR. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I DO NOT SPEED AND DO NOT BRAKE QUICKLY OR RIDE THE BRAKES. *TR
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH MY HHR SINCE PURCHASED IN SEPTEMBER 2005. FIRST INCIDENT WAS THE LOCK ON THE HATCH BROKE AFTER ONLY OWNING THE CAR FOR A FEW MONTHS. NEXT WAS WITH THE BRAKES. AT FIRST I NOTICED A NOISE WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE. THIS NOSE WOULD COME AND GO. AFTER A FEW MONTHS I STARTED TO NOTICE A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN MY STEERING WHEEL WHEN BRAKING A FEW DAYS LATER THAT VIBRATION TURNED TO VIOLENT SHAKING AND RESISTANCE WHEN BRAKING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THIS WAS ROUGHLY AROUND 13000 MI. THE DEALER DID REPAIR THE ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY AND DIDN'T GIVE ME THE "IT'S NORMAL WEAR & TEAR" MUMBO. NEXT IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. IT WILL STAY ON FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN GO OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALREADY AND THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE SENSOR EACH TIME. NOW WE ARE UP TO THE 4TH TIME AS IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN YESTERDAY. I HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE RADIO. THE RADIO HAS HAD POWER TO IT AND NO VOLUME. THIS HAPPENED 3-4 TIMES B/4 I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO HAD TO RESET & REPROGRAM SOMETHING ON THE RADIO. *TR
MY 2006 CHEVROLET HHR IS GETTING SANDBLASTED ON THE REAR ROCKER PANELS OVER THE COURSE OF NORMAL DRIVING DOWN PAVED ROADS. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH PROTECTIVE PLASTIC GUARDS WHICH ARE TAKING ALL THE ABUSE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS IS WHAT THE GUARDS WERE FOR. FINALLY THEY TOOK PICTURES AND DECIDED TO REPAINT THEM AND INSTALL MUDFLAPS AT THEIR COST. NOW THE PAINT IS STILL GETTING SANDBLASTED AGAIN AND THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF. AFTER COMPLAINING YET AGAIN I WAS TOLD BY THE GM BUSINESS RESOURCE CENTER THAT I SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE RUNNINGBOARDS AT THE TIME I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IF I WANTED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. HOW WAS I TO FORESEE THIS PROBLEM? THEY REFUSED TO INSTALL THEM AT THEIR COST WHICH I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE. THEY ARE SAYING THAT I AM PICKING UP 'ROAD DEBRIS" AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM. I ONLY DRIVE ON PAVED ROADS SO THIS IS A RIDICULOUS AND FALSE STATEMENT. FINALLY TODAY THEY CALLED AND AGREED TO PAY FOR 50% OF THE RUNNINGBOARDS AND THE INSTALLATION OF THEM. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO COMPENSATE THEM FOR AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS SHOULD IN ANY WAY BE MY RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
BOUGHT 2006 HHR LT IN NOVEMBER 2005, AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND FRONT SUSPENSION. HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WHEN I FIRST NOTICED PROBLEMS WITHIN 5 MONTHS...FRONT BRAKE SHIMMY/SHAKE...ROTORS WERE CUT 2 TIMES UNDER WARRANTY, WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM INITIALLY. I THOUGHT IT ODD THAT ROTORS WOULD NEED TO BE CUT WITH APPROX. 2000 AND 6000 MILES ON THE CAR...WAS TOLD IT MUST BE OUR 'DRIVING HABITS'. I PAID FOR HIGH-END DRILLED/SLOTTED ROTORS A YEAR AGO (APPROX. 36000 MILES), HAD THEM INSTALLED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO SAID THE REAR BRAKES WERE SO FAR OUT OF ADJUSTMENT, HE WONDERED HOW WE STOPPED THE CAR. PROBLEM WAS OK FOR ABOUT A YEAR, BUT HAS SINCE RETURNED...THIS SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS WITH THE FRONT SUSPENSION, WHICH THE DEALER NEVER COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH SINCE 'DAY ONE'. CLUNKING/CHUCKLING NOISES...THEY FINALLY FOUND A BAD RIGHT LOWER BALL JOINT, WHICH WAS REPLACED AT NO CHARGE...NOISES CONTINUE TO THIS DAY...48,000 MILES. ONE MORE STRANGE HAPPENING...A/C JUST QUIT...TEMP GAUGE QUIT...DEALER FINALLY FOUND A DEFECTIVE THERMOSTAT GASKET...REPLACED GASKET AND T-STAT...ALL HAS BEEN FINE SINCE. I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING UNLOADING THIS CAR, AS MUCH AS I WOULD HATE TO. THE PROBLEMS NEVER QUIT, OR, FOR THAT MATTER, SEEM TO BE ABLE TO BE FIXED. *TR

THERE WAS ALSO A HESITATION IN THE CAR AT THE SAME TIME AND THIS MAY HAVE BEEN RELATED, BUT THAT PROBLEM EVENTUALLY DISAPPEARED. I DID HAVE THE TIRES REBALANCED BUT THIS DID NOT CHANGE THE VIBRATION PROBLEM AND I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES TO TRY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. EVERY TIME THE SERVICE AREA CONCENTRATED ON BRAKES. THEY RE-GROUND THE ROTORS, REPLACED BRAKE PADS, CALIPERS AND SOMETIMES THIS DID IMPROVE THE SITUATION FOR PERHAPS 30 DAYS BUT WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THE SAME PROBLEM WOULD REDEVELOP. THEY COMPLAINED THAT THE TIRES SHOULD BE REBALANCED AGAIN...I DID THAT AT THE DEALERSHIP SO THE SERVICE PEOPLE COULD NOT OFF-LOAD THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WORK. NO HELP. AT THE MOST RECENT SERVICE REPLACED THE BRAKES AGAIN, NOT OUT OF CONCERN FOR THE REPETITIVE PROBLEM, BUT JUST CHARGED ME THE NORMAL SERVICING AS A WEAR ITEM. WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK, AGAIN, THE SHIMMY PROBLEM WAS GONE...ALMOST. THERE IS STILL EVIDENCE OF A MINOR SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END AND THIS IS HOW IT ALWAYS DEVELOPS. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND NOTED THAT WE WERE TAKING THE CAR ON VACATION BUT THAT I WANTED TO DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM AGAIN IN THE EVENT WE HAD TO HAVE SERVICE IN A REMOTE LOCATION. THE DEALER AGAIN SERVICED THE BRAKES AND I LEFT ON VACATION TO SAN DIEGO. THE PROBLEM AGAIN APPEARED AND WE DECIDED TO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR BACK CROSS-COUNTRY AND IT REMAINS IN SAN DIEGO AND NO USE TO ME WHATEVER.
