POWER STEERING FAILURE LIGHT APPEARS WHILE DRIVING AND THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. MUST SHUT ENGINE OFF UNTIL POWER STEERING COMES BACK. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THE LATEST BEING 10/31/15
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE DISPLAYED AND AN AUDIBLE ALARM WAS ACTIVATED BEFORE THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. AFTER SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY BEFORE THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
OUR 2006 CHEVROLET HHR HAD TOTAL POWER STEERING LOSS AND WASN'T REGAINED UNTIL TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING. THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED AT A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THE ERROR CODE OF C0050 WAS GIVEN, THIS IDENTIFIES THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE(PSCM). THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN, CONSISTING OF THE PSCM, WAS REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN STEERING SYSTEM ISSUE WITH GM AS IT HAS ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED IN 2009-10 HHRS AND VARIOUS OTHER GM MODELS THAT HAVE THE SAME PLATFORM COMPONENTS.
WHILE TRAVELING A MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY TO WORK, I BEGAN TO MERGE ONTO THE EXIT RAMP. WHILE DOWNSHIFTING MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THE CLUTCH SUDDENLY LOST TENSION AND WENT THROUGH THE FLOOR. I HAD TO COAST DOWN THE EXIT RAMP, COAST ALONG ANOTHER ROAD BEFORE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, I REALIZED THAT THE CLUTCH HAD COME LOOSE FROM AND BROKEN THROUGH THE FIREWALL. I WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED AFTER THE ENGINE POWER GREATLY REDUCED AND ENGINE DISABLED WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE DID RESTART; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED EVERY 20 MINUTES ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS GUARANTEED FOR ONE YEAR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
CAR IS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND BOTH OF THE METAL FUEL LINES THAT RUN FROM THE ENGINE TO THE FUEL TANK HAVE RUSTED AND IS LEAKING FUEL NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL. THIS IS ALSO NEAR THE EXHAUST AND COULD POTENTIALLY CATCH FIRE. FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS COMMON WITH THIS CAR AS THE FUEL LINES WERE RUSTING AT THE BEND POINTS. FORTUNATELY I DISCOVERED THE LEAK WHILE IT WAS PARKED AND THE CAR WAS OFF. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GM. THE FUEL LINES SHOULD NEVER RUST OUT LIKE THIS. A RECALL OF THESE CARS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS IN ORDER TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AS IT APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING TO MANY HHRS OF THIS MODEL YEAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WAS PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK, THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED TO TURN TO THE OFF POSITION AND THE KEY DID NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED TO BE ABLE TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
POWER STEERING FAILED DURING HIGH SPEED ON THE FREEWAY (DIC MESSAGE COME ON "POWER STEERING"), YOU CAN STILL STEER WITH A LARGE AMOUNT OF EFFORT. THIS (STEERING) MAY BE A BIG PROBLEM FOR SOME DRIVERS; THUS RENDERING IT UNSAFE AND A POSSIBLE "CAR CRASH OR CULLISION WITH OTHERS."
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS TURNED ON WHEN STARTING CAR. ISSUE HAS RECURRED AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE AUGUST 5, 2015. MILEAGE WAS 80652. ARE AIR BAGS FUNCTIONING AND IS CAR SAFE TO DRIVE?
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY HHR THE FIRST YEAR I BOUGHT IT I HAD A SMALL ANIMAL RUN IN FRONT OF THE CAR, THE CAR SKID A LONG WAY AND I ENDED UP HAVING TO CHANGE THE TIRE BECAUSE IT MADE A FLAT SPOT ON THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE. I HAVE HAVE BEEN IN ACCIDENTS TWICE IN THE LAST 4 YEARS DUE TO HAVING TO STOP ABRUPTLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE BRAKES SKIDDING INSTEAD OF STOPPING, BOTH TIMES MY CAR PULLED TO THE LEFT ACROSS SEVERAL LANE LEAVING ME FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND BEING HIT.
WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF ENGINE EXHAUST COMING INTO THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE A/C VENTS. THE FLEX HOSE COMING FROM THE ENGINE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD DEVELOPED A LARGE CRACK. THE EXHAUST FUMES WERE BEING SUCKED INTO THE VENTILATION SYSTEM AND OUT THROUGH THE A/C VENTS, FILLING THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WITH EXHAUST FUMES. THE DESIGN OF THE FLEX PIPE IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED AS IF IT'S MADE TO FAIL. IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE THREAT OF THE CARBON MONOXIDE THAT WE WERE BREATHING FROM THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS MAY ALSO BE THE CAUSE OF SEVERE HEADACHES THAT I HAD BEEN SUFFERING FROM.
POWER ASSIST STEERING GOES OUT, HARD TO STEER . THE LIGHT GOES ON FOR THE DASH WARNING.DANGEROUS UNDER SOME SITUTATIONS COULD CAUSE CRASH.
RIGHT REAR BRAKE LIGHT LIGHT SOCKET MELTED LOCK-IN AREA TO LENS. BOTH HEADLIGHTS ARE STARTING TO BURN THROUGH LENS ON TURN SIGNAL BULB INSIDE HL.

THE CONTACT THEN TURNED ON AND POWERED OFF THE VEHICLE AGAIN WHEN THE CHIME SUDDENLY DEACTIVATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I PARKED MY VEHICLE AY HOME, AND WHEN I WENT TO GET OUT, THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE RIGHT OFF. THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT WAS TO ROLL DOWN THE ELECTRIC WINDOW AND REACH OUT TO THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. FROM SOME RESEARCH I DID THIS BREAKING OFF IS A COMMON PROBLEM. WHAT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT IF FOR SOME REASON LIKE AN ACCIDENT I COULDN'T GET THE WINDOW DOWN, I WOULD BE STUCK IN THE VEHICLE.
WE NOTICED A GASOLINE SMELL WHEN YOU SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN, BUT SINCE WE WERE HAVING A VERY FRIGID WINTER WE JUST THOUGH IT WAS FROM THE TEMPERATURES. AS IT GOT WARMER WEATHER THE ODOR WAS GETTING WORSE.WE SEEN GAS DRIPPING FROM AROUND THE GAS TANK. OUR SON TOOK IT TODAY TO SEE WHAT WAS MAKING IT DO THIS AND FOUND THAT THE UPPER GAS LINE IS RUSTED AND HAS SEVERAL PIN HOLES IN THAT IS MAKING IT LEAK. AFTER DOING A SEARCH ON THIS I SEEN THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WE HAVE ALREADY HAD THE IGNITION RECALL, POWER STEERING RECALL AND 2 MORE THAT I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY WERE. ANOTHER PROBLEM WE'VE HAD IS THE CLEAR COAT PAINT THAT GM WOULDN'T EVEN LISTEN ABOUT. THE ISSUE IS THAT MY HUSBAND AND I ARE BOTH IN POOR HEALTH AND HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR TO GET TO DR. APPOINTMENTS BUT WE LIVE ON FIXED INCOME. THE GAS LEAK IS A VERY VOLATILE PROBLEM THAT COULD START A FIRE WHILE WE ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD DO A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PEOPLE START BURNING IN THEIR VEHICLES. A CAR THAT HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. MY CAR COOLANT WENT FROM 187 TO 216 WHAT CAUSE THIS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING 65 MILES PER HOUR AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I REALIZED THAT THE BRAKES WERE SEIZING UP MAKING IT HARD TO DRIVE AND SHAKE ALMOST OUT OF CONTROL. I FOUND OUT THAT I NEED A 2008 MASTER CYLINDER TO FIX IT. *TR
CAR SPEEDED UP AND DOWN ,CAR STARTED TO SPIN IN CIRCLE,LOST POWER STEERING,LOST CONTROL OF CAR, FLIPPED AND ROLLED OVER 3 TIMES DOWN A 30 YD. CLIFF . NO HEAD AIR BAGS WORKED AT ALL ,ONLY THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG WORKED. TOOK OVER 2 HRS. TO BE FOUND BY POLICE. HAD TO USE CELL PHONE SIGNAL TO BE FOUND. *TR
IN FEB 2015 I HAD TO HAVE THE HUB REPLACED, I ALSO HAD NEW BREAKS PUT ON. IN FEB 2016 I HAD TO HAVE THE HUB REPLACED AGAIN. WE ARE NOW IN MAY 2016 MY CAR IS DOING THE SAME THING AND I THINK I AM GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE THE HUB REPLACED AGAIN. WHEN I APPLY MY BRAKES THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES AND THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO COME OFF, THE BRAKES FEEL LIKE THEY ARE GRABBING AND LETTING GO.

WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD APP 35 MPH CAR SUDDENLY DIES STOP RESTARTED CAR AND IT DROVE NORMALLY,A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE USING THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH THE DASH LIGHTS AND GAUGES STOP WORKING NOW WE ARE GETTING THE SOUND OF A ELECTRICAL POPPING OR SNAPPING IN THE DASH AND THE DASH LIGHTS WILL STILL INTERMITTENTLY STOP WORKING OR FLASHING. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY SISTER ON RT 9 IN LAKEWOOD NJ IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. WE HEARD A LOUD POP THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT OR SOMETHING THAT HIT MY ROOF. I DROVE A FEW BLOCKS TO TRY AND FIND A SPOT TO TAKE A LOOK, WHEN I OPENED MY INSIDE SUNROOF SHADE I SAW THAT MY SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED. I CALLED THE LAKEWOOD POLICE AND THEY TOOK A REPORT. I WILL BE GETTING IT FIXED TODAY, I HAVE TO PAY $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. I'M JUST GLAD WE WERE NOT HURT. I WENT ON LINE AND SAW THAT QUITE A FEW CAR'S OF OTHER MAKES AND MODELS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE CHEVY DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND HAVE BEEN TAKING IT TO FOR THE TWO RECALLS WILL NOT DO THEM
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD I GOT A MESSAGE SAYING "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AND THEN "ENGINE DISABLED" AND MY CAR SHUT OFF. I TRIED STARTING IT A FEW TIMES AND IT WOULDN'T EVEN TURN OVER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STARTED BACK UP.
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS FIRST OFF MY DASH LIGHTS WILL FLICKER WHILE DRIVING SOMETIMES THE RADIO AND DASH WON'T WORK AT ALL, BACKS OF MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS HAVE FALLEN OFF, BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKE THE DRIVERS HANDLE IS COMPLETELY BROKE OFF, ALSO WHEN IT RAINS MY PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD FILLS UP WITH WATER, MY SEATS ARE SO DIRTY LOOKING CAUSE SOMETHING KEEPS BLEEDING THROUGH UPHOLSTERY, IGNITION AND SHIFT LEVER HAD TO BE REPLACED TODAY CAUSE CAR WOULDN'T GO INTO PARK AND KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT!! ON THE DATE ABOVE I HAD MY POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT COME ON AND STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE LIGHT WAS OUT. WELL THIS WEEK I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING THAT IF THE LIGHT COMES ON OR IF YOU HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE LIGHT COMING ON TO TAKE IT TO YOUR DEALER.THESE ARE THE EXACT WORDS IN THE LETTER: IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS ON YOUR 2006 CHEVROLET HHR, THE CONDITION WILL BE REPAIRED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE. TODAY TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A ROUTINE SERVICE AND ASK THE DEALER ABOUT THE LETTER AND HE SAID HE WOULD CHECK ON IT. A FEW MINUTES LATER HE TOLD ME THEY HAD A POWER STEERING MOTOR IN STOCK AND IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO INSTALL IF I HAD THE TIME AND I SAID I COULD WAIT. HE CAME TO THE WAITING ROOM AND SAID I WAS READY TO GO AND THE STEERING MOTOR WAS NOT THE PROBLEM CAUSING THE LIGHT, BUT THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE WHICH IS PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY AND NOT COVERED BY THE LETTER. WELL GUESS WHAT, THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY IS ONLY SOLD WITH A NEW STEERING MOTOR, SO IF I REPLACED THE COLUMN GM GETS $578.59 FOR THE PART PLUS LABOR COST TO INSTALL AND THEY PAY FOR NOTHING TO CURE THE ISSUE. I WAS A MECHANIC ON ROAD TRUCKS AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND KNOW IF YOU HAVE AN ELECTRIC MOTOR IT HAS TO GET IT'S COMMANDS ON HOW TO REACT FROM SOME TYPE OF CONTROL SOURCE ( STEERING CONTROL MODULE) WOULD BE MY GUESS WOULDN'T YOU THINK. NO WHERE IN MY LETTER DOES IT STATE STEERING MOTOR ONLY IS COVERED TO SOLVE THE ISSUE AND NO WHERE ON THE REIMBURSEMENT REQUEST FORM DOES IT SAY THEY WILL ONLY REIMBURSE FOR THE MOTOR. I HAD AN ONLINE CHAT WITH A GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD ONLY THE MOTOR ACCORDING TO HER WRITTEN INFORMATION. WHEN I REQUESTED A COPY OF WHAT IS COVERED, I WAS TOLD TO ASK THE DEALER FOR A COPY. *TR
THE INSIDE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF (PLASTIC OR OTHER NONMETAL MATERIAL ATTACHED TO A METAL HINGE)AT THE METAL HINGE. (CHEAP MATERIALS THAT FATIGUE EASILY) WITH NO EXCESS FORCE OR ABNORMAL PRESSURE BEING APPLIED. I WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ENGAGING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPERATE THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. IN AN ACCIDENT, THIS WOULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD IF THE DRIVER NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR QUICKLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE DEALER FAILED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH AS STATED ON THE RECALL NOTIFICATION. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ONLY THE KEYS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
7/29/14 STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP -11-28-14 STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. DECEMBER 22 2014 STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AGAIN WHILE MY SON WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN,CRASHED,AND HIT AN ELECTRICAL POLE, BUST HIS LIP AND HIT HIS HEAD. STATE FARM INS CO TOTAL THE CAR. JANUARY 2015 GOT A LETTER FROM GM STATED THAT THIS 2006 HHR MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH POWERING STEERING LOSS. JULY 2014 GM SAID THIS LOSS WAS NOT DUE THE LOSS OF MY SON ACCIDENT, CLEARLY IT WAS AND REFUSE TO PAY FOR ANY DAMAGES. I HAVE YET TO HEAR ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THOSE CARS. I WANT MY SON COMPENSATED FOR THIS LOSS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
OIL COOLER THAT IS MOUNTED ON TOP OF ENGINE STARTED LEAKING. TOOK TO GM DEALER AND AFTER RESEARCH THEY FOUND THAT THE PART WAS ONLY MADE FOR 6 MONTHS AND WAS DISCONTINUED DUE TO THE ISSUE I WAS HAVING. THERE WAS A BY PASS PRODUCED FOR A SHORT PERIOD THAT ENDED UP BEING WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL PART. AS A RESULT THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX MY CAR EXCEPT CHANGE OUT THE ENGINE WITH A NEWER MODEL. I CALLED GM TO ASK ABOUT IT AND AT THE DEALERS SUGGESTION TO ASK FOR HELP PAYING FOR THE $5,999 ENGINE. GM FLAT OUT REFUSED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART AND REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE. HOW CAN AN AMERICAN CAR COMPANY KNOWINGLY MAKE A DEFECTIVE PART AND HAVE MILLIONS OF THEM ON THE ROAD AND NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE PART OR MAKING A REPLACEMENT AVAILABLE? THIS ISSUE MAKES THE VEHICLE UN DRIVABLE AS THE AMOUNT OF OIL AND ANTI FREEZE THAT IS LEAKED NOT ONLY CONTAMINATES THE ENVIRONMENT IT ALSO EMPTIES THE OIL FROM THE ENGINE CAUSING FAILURE. *TR

DRIVING AT 70MPH ON THE FREEWAY, BETWEEN TWO SEMI TRUCKS, MY CAR DINGED AT ME AND THE DISPLAY SAID, "ENGINE POWER REDUCED." I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THIS MEANT SO I IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO TRY AND MANEUVER BETWEEN THE TWO TRUCKS AND PULL OVER. SECONDS LATER, THE WARNING BELLS HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS "ENGINE DISENGAGED." THE CAR TURNED ITSELF OFF! I COASTED OVER TO THE BERM. TO BE HONEST, I WAS SO SCARED, I REALLY DON'T KNOW IF THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE DISABLED TOO BUT WITH NO ENGINE RUNNING, I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW THEY COULD BE. THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOW ON AND I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART THE CAR WITH NO SUCCESS, IT JUST ACTED DEAD. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SEEMED OPERATIVE. WITH CARS AND TRUCKS ZIPPING BY AT HIGH SPEEDS, I DECIDED TO WAIT IN MY CAR, HOPING AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE WOULD PASS BY. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED LIT AND THE CAR ACTED NORMALLY NOT EVEN ACTING LIKE IT WAS IN LIMP MODE. I WARILY DROVE MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC. HE SAID THE COMPUTER GAVE HIM LIMITED INFORMATION. HE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BUT WASN'T SURE IT WORKED OR NOT. IMAGINE MY HESITANCY TO DRIVE ON A FREEWAY AGAIN, NOT KNOWING IF IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. A SEARCH OF INTERNET BOARDS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SHOWED THIS IS DESIGNED BY GM TO HAPPEN AND HAPPENS OFTEN! A DESIGN FEATURE THAT SHUTS OFF THE CAR AT HIGH SPEEDS BECAUSE OF A DIRTY THROTTLE? THIS WAS NOT A FATAL CONDITION OF THE ENGINE THAT WOULD CAUSE IT TO BLOW UP OR SOMETHING BUT MERELY A MAINTENANCE ITEM. JUST SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE HARDLY SEEMS LIKE AN PROPORTIONATE RESPONSE TO A DIRTY THROTTLE. THE DISCUSSION BOARDS SAY THERE ARE MULTIPLE REASONS THIS HAPPENS, NOT JUST THE THROTTLE CONDITION. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS DESIGN FLAW. THE IDEA OF LETTING MY WIFE DRIVE THIS CAR QUITE FRANKLY SCARES ME AS IT DID ME THAT COLD WINTER DAY. *TR

I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I LOOKED TO CHECK MY SPEED, THE GAUGES AND THE DIC WERE NOT WORKING. WHEN I RETURNED HOME AND TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES THEY STILL DID NOT WORK. THIS CAR WAS IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE DRIVER SWERVED TO MISS ANIMALS IN ROAD, CROSSED A DITCH, A FRONTAGE ROAD AND HIT TREES TO COME TO A STOP AND THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER'S HEAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD RIGHT ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL GIVING HIM A HUGE BLACK EYE, LARGE BUMP AND WE ARE WATCHING HIM FOR SIGNS OF CONCUSSION. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEN I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY WIFE AND KID IN THE CAR. THE ROAD CURVED TO THE RIGHT AND AS I WAS GOING AROUND IT, I LOST POWER STEERING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO USE FORCE AND MAINTAIN CONTROL AROUND THE CORNER. IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING SHE MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BECAUSE IT TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL AND GET AROUND THE CORNER. SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED ALMOST EVERYDAY, SOMETIMES A FEW TIMES A DAY. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I GET A DASHBOARD MESSAGE THAT SAYS "POWER STEERING". MY WIFE WILL NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNLESS ITS JUST A QUICK TRIP TO THE STORE, AND WE REFUSE TO PUT OUR SON IN THAT CAR. I RECENTLY STARTED GETTING A DASHBOARD MESSAGE SAYING "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND THE CAR LOSES POWER AND WILL ONLY GET TO ABOUT 10-15 MPH. I WAS DRIVING AT ROUND 45 MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME BECAUSE THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TOO FAST WITH NO BREAK LIGHTS UNTIL I HIT THEM. SINCE THEN IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY A FEW TIMES A WEEKS. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HAPPEN WHILE ON CRUISE CONTROL SO I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO USE IT AS MUCH AS I CAN. I HAVE READ FORUMS AND THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS LIKE NO ONE CAN PIN POINT THE EXACT PROBLEM AS IT CAN MEAN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT THINGS. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO TRY OUT ALL THE DIFFERENT FIXES FOR THIS IN HOPES THAT I GET THE RIGHT THING FIXED BEFORE I SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. WITH THE NUMBER OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO AT LEAST HAVE THE CAR CHECKED OUT TO PIN POINT THE PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE. *TR
