THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V632000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,985.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, AND WAS TAKING A LEFT TURN TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A DING DING DING FROM THE CAR. MY DASH LIT UP A WARNING THAT SAID POWER STEERING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. IT BECAME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER, AND I ENDED UP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, IN A FIELD. THANK GOODNESS I DIDNT GET INTO A MAJOR ACCIDENT. AND THANK GOODNES MY 1 AND A HALF YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WASN'T WITH ME AT THE TIME, AND WAS ALREADY SAFE AT HOME!!

THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR.WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED FOR THE FAILURE TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY CAR WAS TAKING LONGER TO START AND I NOTICED A STRONG FUEL SMELL WHILE DRIVING. I STOPPED THE CAR AND DISCOVERED A SMALL BUT RAPIDLY EXPANDING SPOT OF FUEL ON THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL. THERE WAS A NEAR CONSTANT DRIPPING OF GASOLINE AND BY THE NEXT DAY THERE WAS A SPOT THE SIZE OF A DINNER PLATE ON THE DRIVEWAY STAINED WITH GASOLINE. MY MECHANIC EXAMINED THE CAR AND SAID THAT THE FUEL LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND THAT THE VAPOR LINE ALSO SHOWED SIGNS OF SERIOUS RUST. HE ALSO SAID THAT DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE GUARD AROUND THE FUEL LINE, RAINWATER WOULD POOL AND KEEP THE FUEL LINE SUBMERGED WHICH GREATLY ACCELERATED THE RUSTING PROCESS. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEAKING THIS COULD HAVE VERY EASILY HAVE TURNED INTO A FIRE, PARTICULARLY ON THE FOURTH OF JULY WITH SO MANY PEOPLE SHOOTING FIREWORKS. MY CAR IS STILL AT THE MECHANIC, HE TELLS ME THE DEALER TOLD HIM THESE FUEL LINES ARE IN HIGH DEMAND AND IT MAY BE A WHILE BEFORE THEY GET THEM IN. WITH AS WIDESPREAD AS THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE, I SUSPECT AN INVESTIGATION AND RECALL MAY BE IN ORDER.
2006 CHEVY HHR IS HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE EPS WAS REPLACED AND NOW WHEN I AM DRIVE THE INSRUMENT PANEL NEEDLES MOVE BACK AND FORTH, POWER STEERING AND OTHER INDICATORS LIGHT UP AND CAR CUTS OFF. HAD SEVERAL TUNE-UPS AND THE PROBLEM IS HAPPENING.
FUEL LINE IS LEAKING WHEN FUEL PUMP IS RUNNING. NOT THE ONLY CAR HAVE COBALT THAT WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. AFTER DRIVING 25 MPH AND PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT SMELLED FUEL AROUND THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE NEAR WHEEL WAS LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000. UPDATED 08/30/16*LJ *JS
FUEL LINES ARE RUSTING TO THE POINT OF NEEDING REPLACING AND THE EVAP LINE IS LEAKING FUMES AT THE MOMENT. I WAS TOLD BY BEST CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN HINGHAM, THAT THE CAUSE OF THIS RUSTING IS BECAUSE FUEL LINES ARE SO CLOSE TO EXHAUST SYSTEM A LEAK IN THE EXHAUST HAS ACCELERATED RATE OF RUSTING FOR THE FUEL LINES AND EVAP LINES. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTE FOR REPLACING JUST THE LINES (NOT EXHAUST REPAIR) AT $1,600. CAR HAS AROUND 150K MILES BUT WAS TOLD THE AMOUNT OF RUST IS BEYOND WHAT IT SHOULD BE FOR A CAR AT THIS AGE/STAGE. I DON'T KNOW IF CHEVY CAN MAKE A BETTER HEAT SHIELD TO KEEP FUEL LINES FROM DETERIORATING FROM HEAT FROM EXHAUST SYSTEM OR WHAT CAN BE DONE ... BUT I HAVE READ THAT MANY, MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH SAME CAR HAVE THE SAME ISSUE ABOUT RUSTED FUEL LINES. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE CAR AT THIS STAGE FOR FEAR IF THE RUSTED LINE FAILS THEN I WILL HAVE GAS LEAKING DIRECTLY NEAR A HOT EXHAUST WHICH COULD IGNITE THE CAR AND I HAVE LITTLE BABIES THAT I USUALLY HAVE WITH ME AND IT WOULD PUT THEIR LIVES IN DANGER. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED SOMEHOW. GM NEEDS TO ADMIT IT'S A BAD DESIGN FLAW AND COME UP WITH A FIX OR SOMETHING. SHOULD NOT BE ON THE CONSUMER'S HANDS FOR THAT KIND OF A REPAIR... THANK YOU. *TR
CAR STATED SMELLING OF GAS INSIDE AND OUT FOR DAYS AND KEPT GETTING STRONGER, NOTICED POOL OF GAS NEAR DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE, AFTER EXTENSIVE SEARCH NOTICED GAS LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND SMALL WHOLE NEAR EXHAUST SYSTEM, WITHIN 2 INCHES OF THE EXHAUST PIPE SPRAYING GAS ON EXHAUST PIPE. AFTER INTERNET SEARCH FOUND A TON OF THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER HHR OWNERS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET BURNED OR KILLED BY THESE FAULTY DESIGNED FUEL LINES.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING GET HARD AND I AM UNABLE TO MAKE NORMAL TURNS. THIS HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEEDS AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
POWER STEERING FAILS SUDDENLY, MAKING THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGHER SPEED. OTHER HHR'S HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT THE 2006 MODELS. I'VE READ OTHER 2006 OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. I'VE CHECKED THE FUSES AND CANNOT FIND ANY REASON FOR THIS PROBLEM. IF I TURN THE IGNITION OFF, THEN RESTART THE CAR THE STEERING WORKS FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE THE STEERING GOES OUT AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO, ABOUT MAY 2016. AT FIRST IT OCCURRED RANDOMLY, BUT NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. SPEED HAS NO BEARING ON THE PROBLEM AS I CAN BE DRIVING 20 MPH OR 70 MPH. I CURRENTLY HAVE 149,580 MILES ON THIS CAR. I'VE HAD THE RECALLED IGNITION REPLACED TWICE AND I'M WONDERING IF THIS PROBLEM IS RELATED AS THE POWER STEERING IS ELECTRIC. I'VE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS AND FEEL THE CAR IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
VEHICLE HAS 111,000 MILES AND TWICE IN THE PAST TWO DAYS THE POWER STEERING ERROR IN THE DIC CAME ON DURING LOW SPEED CORNERING. BOTH TIMES THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING NORMALLY UNTIL THE TURN AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN UNDER MANUAL MODE. A RESET OF THE CAR RESTORED POWER STEERING ALBIT TEMPORARILY.
CAR STARTED SMELLING GAS INSIDE WHEN DRIVING AND HAVE TO OPEN THE WINDOW TO GET SOME FRESH AIR. A CLICKING NOISE, TOO MUCH NOISE FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION WHEN TURNING OR DRIVING..L TOOK THE CAR FOR OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALER TECH DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE CAR STATING THAT IT'S SAFETY ISSUES. THEY SAID THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS HAS BEEN WEAR OUT AND THAT THE "SWAY BAR"IS SHORTER WEARING MY TIRES. IN JUST THIS YEAR L HAVE CHANGE THE 4 TIRES TWICE. DISCOUNT TIRES SAID THEY HAVE NOT SEEN SUCH A THING BEFORE THE WEARING OCCURES IN THE INSIDE PART OF THE TIRES... THE ENTIRE FRONT SUSPENSION IS COLLAPSING. GM NEED TO ISSUES A RECALL FOR THESE ISSUES.... THE DEALER GAVE ME A REPAIR QUOTE OF ALMOST $3000 ...GM NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL THESE ISSUES AND OFFER A CREDIT OR REPURCHASED THE CAR BACK... L HAVE CHILDREN THAT L TRANSPORTER BACK AND FORTH TO SCHOOL AND TO HOSPITAL...AND NEED A SAFER CAR...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL. IN ADDITION, A FUEL ODOR ENTERED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MAIN FUEL LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
I TOOK MY 2006 HHR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS ON A TAIL LIGHT AND FUSES. WHEN I PICKED IT UP IT WAS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT. I STARTED THE CAR. WENT TO DRIVE AWAY AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I WENT IN SIDE AND HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR AGAIN. IT TOOK 2 WEEKS FOR THEM TO WORK ON MY CAR. THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED TO FIX THE STEERING MODULE.
WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, WHILE IT WAS RAINING AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE JERKED AND STOPPED WORKING.
WE KEEP HEARING A DING, DING, DING, AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER READS OUT POWER STEERING AS WE LOSE OUR POWER STEERING AND IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEELS. THIS KEEPS HAPPENING EVERY SO MANY DAYS AND I HAVE CHANGED THE 60 AMP FUSE. BUT IT SEEMS THAT IF I PULL OVER AND SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT THE POWER STEERING WORKS ONCE AGAIN. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. I CALLED OUR MECHANIC AND HE SAID HE WILL NOT WORK ON ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEMS. THAT DOESN'T GIVE ME MUCH COMFORT AS IT APPEARS I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALER AND GUESS IT MIGHT BE A BIG DEAL AND VERY EXPENSIVE. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, WE HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH OUR CAR THESE LAST 10 YEARS.
IT STARTED A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, YOU WOULD HEAR A BEEPING SOUND THEN A MESSAGE ON THE DASH, IT WILL SAY "POWER STEERING" THEN THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT BE WORKING, IT STARTED ONCE A WEEK THEN ONCE A DAY NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU DRIVE THE CAR.

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
FUEL LINES ARE RUSTED OUT. VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE FUEL AFTER BEING PARKED FOR JUST A SHORT WHILE, SO I CHECKED AND SURE ENOUGH THE FUEL/EVAP LINES ARE RUSTED AND NEED REPLACEMENT. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I SEE THAT NOT ONLY IS THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM ON THESE VEHICLES, BUT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE VERY HARD TO COME BY AS WELL. THIS IS HAZARDOUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
TWICE THE POWER STEERING STOPPED AND THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY HARD/IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. FIRST TIME WAS WHEN PARKING AND AFTER HAVING THE ENGINE OFF FOR AND HOUR I STARTED IT UP AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE, SO DID NOT WORK THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. SECOND TIME WAS GOING AROUND A CURVE ON AN ONRAMP TO AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND THE STEERING ACTED ALMOST LIKE IT LOCKED, NO CONTROL HIT A LIGHT POLE AND CAR IS DAMAGED EXTENSIVELY.
AT 107,000 MILES FOUR OF THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL STUDS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT 25 MPH AND WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP WITHOUT THE WHEEL COMING OFF THE CAR. DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE OEM HUBCAP IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL WHEN ONE OR MORE LUG NUTS HAVE FAILED. IF THIS FAILURE WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEED THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE BUMPER BECAME SLIGHTLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT LOOKED AT THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE BUMPER NEEDED TO BE RE-ATTACHED AND NOTICED THAT THE METAL INNER BUMPER WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. WHEN TOUCHING THE INNER BUMPER, IT IMMEDIATELY DISINTEGRATED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLES FRACTURED. THE FAILURE HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE BATTERY ALSO FAILED AND PREVENTED THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS FROM BEING USED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE DOOR HANDLES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE THE CONTACT AND HER SISTER WERE IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FIRE AFFECTED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND WAS EXTINGUISHED BY PEDESTRIANS. A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,400.
WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASHES ON DASH BOARD AND I LOSE ALL THE FUNCTION OF THE POWER STEERING. IT HAS NOW HAPPENED 4 SEPARATE TIMES IN TWO WEEKS, THE LAST WHEN I WAS TURNING A CORNER AND NEARLY HIT A CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A SAFETY RECALL LETTER FROM GENERAL MOTORS STATING THAT I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX AND THEN THEY WOULD DETERMINE IF IT FELL UNDER THERE RECALL. WHEN THE LETTER STATES TO BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD THE POWER STEERING LIGHT EVER COMES ON THE DASH PANEL, WHICH IT HAS DONE KNOW 4 TIMES WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. I COULD BEEN KILLED IF I HAD BEEN GOING FASTER OR KILLED SOME ONE. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE GM FAULTY MECHANICS. FIRST IT WAS THE IGNITION HAVING TO GIVE MY VEHICLE UP FOR NEARLY 6 WEEKS TO HAVE IT FIXED. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GENERAL MOTORS AND PAID FOR BY GENERAL MOTORS, NOT THE CONSUMER. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE, ANOTHER DEATH BECAUSE OF THE MISTAKES. EVEN AFTER THEY NOTIFIED ME THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE VIA LETTER, BUT I FIRST PAY OUT OF POCKET AND THEN DETERMINE IF THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME FOR IT. THE FIRST TIME I WAS IN DOWNTOWN LA GOING TO WORK AND ONCE AGAIN WHEN I TURNED LEFT WHILE DRIVING, THE SECOND ON THE 405 IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, JUST AS I WAS ACCELERATING AND CHANGING LANES, THE LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASH BOARD (POWER STEERING) AND I LOST ALL POWER STEERING CAPABILITY. THE THIRD WAS THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 15, 2016. TURNING LEFT AGAIN AND THE FOURTH TIME JUST YESTERDAY AGAIN WHEN I TURNED LEFT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FUSE BOX CAUGHT FIRE AND CAUSED THE BATTERY TO DRAIN COMPLETELY. BYSTANDERS HELPED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND FUNCTIONALITY AND THE IGNITION KEY REMAINED STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,400.
POWER STEERING COMES UP IN MESSSGE CENTER OVER 10 MPH. STEERING IS VERY HARD. WHEN YOU TURN THE MOTOR OFF AND RESTART IT RESETS. OVER 10 MPH POWER STEERING COMES UP AGAIN. BROUGHT IT TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE BUT TEST COMES UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. GM RECALLED ONLY THE 2010 HHR FOR THIS PROBLEM, NOT THE OTHER YEAR MODELS. I PURCHASED MY 2006 HHR NEW IN DECEMBER 2005.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN INTERMITTENTLY BEFORE FAILING COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BULBS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE IT COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,000.
MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN THE IGNITION RECALL...TOOK IT IN HAD IT ALL FIXED. NOW THAT SAME SWITCH HAS GONE FAULTY AGAIN. THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OVER. ACTS JUST LIKE THE STARTER IS GOING OUT, IT SLOW TO START AND GETS WORSE AND WORSE TILL IT WILL NO LONGER START. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED AND STARTER(DUE TO THAT SEEMED TO BE THE ISSUE. AFTER DIGGING DEEPER INTO THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT SWITCH KEEPS COMING UP AS AN ISSUE.
MY 2006 HHR HAS A DEFECT WITH THE DOOR LATCHES. I HAVE ALREADY PAID ONCE TO HAVE IT FIXED, THEN IT BROKE AGAIN. NOW BOTH MY DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LATCHES ARE NOT WORKING. I FEEL THAT IF I GET THEM FIXED THAT THEY WILL BREAK AGAIN. I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX THEM. IF I WAS TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT OR AN EMERGENCY HAPPENS I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT WITHOUT OPENING THE WINDOWS AND REACHING FOR THE OUTSIDE DOOR, IN WHICH I HAVE SHORT ARMS. I ALREADY HAVE GOT STUCK IN MY CAR ALREADY BECAUSE I WENT INSIDE WITHOUT MY KEY AND COULD NOT ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW TO GET OUT. I HAD TO CALL SOMEONE TO LET ME OUT. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS.
TURN IGNITION SWITCH OFF WHILE CAR OUT OF GEAR CAUSING IT TO ROLL FREELY.
RAW GAS LEADING UNDER THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF LEFT REAR WHEEL. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC. HE IMMEDIATELY TOOK PICTURES AND SAID ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS OLDER (JUST TURNED 10 WITH 93,000 MILES), IT WAS FAR TOO YOUNG FOR SUCH SEVERE RUSTING. THE RUST GOES ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE GAS TANK. HE GAVE ME THE PICTURES AND SAID TO CONTACT GM. WHICH I DID. AFTER A WEEK OF BANTERING BACK AND FORTH WITH CUSTOMER CARE, MY CASE WAS SENT TO THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE CUSTOMER CARE FOLLOWING AN EMAIL I SENT TO MARY BARRA, CEO OF GM. THEY OFFERED A %15 DISCOUNT ON THE $1000 ESTIMATE OF REPAIR. I REFUSED THAT OFFER. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT LET ME DRIVE THE CAR OFF THEIR LOT BECAUSE OF THE SEVERE LEAK. I RECENTLY FOUND THAT ALL THE AREA DEALERSHIPS CARRY A FULL SUPPLY OF THE EXPENSIVE FUEL LINES FOR THE HHR.. I'M TOLD THAT THEY WHEN THEY CARRY SO MANY, IT MEANS THAT THERE IS A HIGH DEMAND FOR REPLACEMENT. MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT DESIGN LOCATION OF THE FUEL LINES IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COLLECTION OF WATER AND SALT. THE FUEL LINES ARE UP AGAINST THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD WHEN THE RUSTING LEADS TO GAS LEAKS. PLEASE HELP! THE CAR WAS PARKED AT THE TIME OF THE GAS LEAK WITH A PUDDLE OF GAS COLLECTION ABOUT THE SIZE OF A FRISBEE.
FUEL LINES RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT OF LEAKING. LEAKING GAS IS ON THE LEFT SIDE IN FRONT OF LEFT REAR WHEEL BY THE ROCKER PANEL.THE STRAPS THAT HOLD UP THE FUEL TANK ARE ALSO RUSTED. MY RESEARCH ON THIS SHOWS THAT THAT THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I'VE OWNED CARS FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF RUST IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE. MY CAR IS A 2006 AND HAS 93,000 MILES ON IT. I HAD NOTICED A GAS SMELL AFTER I PARKED MY CAR. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, I NOTICED A WET SPOT UNDER THE LEAK. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AND PICTURES, IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE GAS WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL LINES ON THE LEFT REAR OF THE CAR (DRIVER SIDE) IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. I'VE PROVIDED PICTURES.
WHILE ON VACATION, THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN STARTED IN 2 WEEKS. THE WEATHER HAD TURNED FROM WARM AND RAINY TO VERY COLD. AFTER GETTING BACK AND STARTING THE CAR, NOTICED A HEAVY FUEL SMELL AND THOUGHT THE EXHAUST WAS BURNING EXTRA RICH DUE TO THE COLD TEMPERATURE. GETTING OUT OF THE CAR TO WALK AROUND TO INSPECT THE EXHAUST NOTICED A STEADY DRIP FORMING A CIRCLE ON THE ASPHALT JUST IN FRONT OF THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE LOCATION OF THE LEAK SEEMS TO BE WHERE THE FUEL LINE BENDS UP AND INTO THE BODY CHANNEL. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER REPAIR SHOP THE NEXT MORNING WHERE IT HAS BEEN WAITING ON PARTS TO REPLACE THE RUSTED STEEL FUEL LINES BECAUSE THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. WAS ADVISED THE HEAT SHIELD TO PROTECT THE FUEL LINE FROM THE NEARBY EXHAUST SYSTEM RETAINS MOISTURE AND LEADS TO THE LINES RUSTING AND PERFORATING. I DID NOT TAKE PICTURES, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE THIS AN ISOLATED ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE'S FUEL LINES AFTER CHECKING ONLINE FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS.

THE CONTACT ADVISED HE HAD PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE AND PANEL HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
GM SAYS DRIVERS WILL INSTANTLY KNOW IF THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILS BECAUSE A CHIME AND DASHBOARD MESSAGE WILL APPEAR. THE CAR CAN BE STEERED WITHOUT POWER ASSIST, BUT IT CAN REQUIRE A LOT MORE MUSCLE TO TURN THE WHEEL, ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. BECAUSE OF THE DIFFICULTY, THE CAR COULD BE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO A CRASH. OUR VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WHEN SUDDENLY, WE LOST ALL POWER STEERING. OTHER MAKES AND MODELS WITH THE SAME EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN RECALLED ALREADY. WHEN SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING IS RESTORED BRIEFLY AND WILL FAIL AGAIN WHILE DRIVING.
I WAS DRIVING TO MY FAMILY'S HOME ON CHRISTMAS, WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE BURNT RUBBER INSIDE OF THE CAR. IT WAS RAINING ON THAT DAY. SUDDENLY THE CARS AC, OR H VAC DID NOT WORK ANYMORE. UPON GOOGLING THINGS OF WHAT IT COULD BE, I FOUND OUT THAT THE RESISTOR AND BLOWER MOTOR HAD BEEN BURNT DO TO BE ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE BLOWER MOTOR PANEL FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. UPON LOOKING AT MY BLOWER MOTOR AND RESISTOR I FOUND EVIDENT BURN MARKS ON THEM. GM SHOULD INVESTIGATE HOW RAINWATER CAN ENTER THE CARS BLOWER MOTOR CAUSING A BURNING SMELL IN A INHALATION OF FUMES OF BURNING PLASTIC. NOT TO MENTION MY ABILITY NOT TO SEE OUT OF THE WINDOW DUE TO THE DEFROST NOT WORKING. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN!!
NOTED STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE NEAR DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR AFTER EXITING VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING, BUT NOT AFTER VEHICLE SAT AND DID NOT RUN. DEALER SERVICE SAID GASOLINE LINES HAD CORRODED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. REPLACEMENT LINES NOT ON HAND AND OVER $1,000 TO FIX. DEFINITE FIRE HAZARD. CAR CURRENTLY NOT BEING USED. THE STEERING WANTS TO LOCK UP AND DON'T RETURN TO THE STRAIGHT POSITION WHEN TURNING ON TO A STREET AS IF IT IS STICKING CLICKING AND POPPING NOISE ALSO IN THE STEERING COLUMN. ALSO BOTH FUEL LINES OVER THE LEFT REAR WHEEL RUSTED OUT AND LEAKED GAS ALL OVER THE GARAGE FLOOR. COSTING TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS.
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN ON BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. THIS HAPPENED ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR TO GET OUT WHILE PARKED. THE DRIVERS SIDE ENTIRE DOOR HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE PASSENGER DOOR HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET.
WHEN DRIVING MY 2006 CHEVY HHR MY POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND AT ANY TIME. THIS MAKES IT HARDER TO TURN AND IS VERY DANGEROUS.

FUEL LINE HAS RUSTED OUT IN UNDER 10 YEARS OF USE. GAS LEAKING OUT THAT CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION IF IGNITED. ENTIRE FUEL LINE IS SUBJECT TO RUST AND CONDENSATION PROBLEMS. IT TOTALLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER HAD THE DEALER COMPLETE A MANUFACTURER RECALL REPAIR FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE REPAIR CAUSED SEVERAL FAILURES AND DID NOT PROVIDE A PERMANENT REPAIR SOLUTION. WITHIN WEEKS OF THE DEALER'S REPAIR, THE KEY WAS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE CONTACT HAD TO CONSTANTLY MANEUVER THE GEAR SHIFT, WHICH HAD ALSO BEEN AN ISSUE. IN ADDITION, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO PROVIDE A READING AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES FAILED TO FULLY FUNCTION AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT THE SOLUTION WOULD BE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000.

ON 11-01-2015, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, A FUEL LINE BEGAN TO SPRAY GASOLINE. THE LEAK APPEARED TOWARD THE REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE LEAK WAS NOTICED BECAUSE THE FUEL CAUGHT FIRE. THE FUEL MUST HAVE BEEN SPRAYED ONTO A HOT PART. THE ON-FIRE FUEL LANDED ON THE PAVEMENT WHERE IT CONTINUED TO BURN UNTIL MANUALLY EXTINGUISHED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE STOPPED THE SPRAYING, BUT FUEL CONTINUED TO DRIP FROM THE AREA FOR SOME TIME. THE REPAIRING MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE LINE WAS RUSTED AND HAD A HOLE. HE SAID THAT PART OF THE LINE SITS IN A POCKET WHERE IT STAYS WET AND DIRT/SALT ACCUMULATE. HE FOUND A FUEL VAPOR LINE ALSO WAS HEAVILY RUSTED. THE LINES WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF 588.31. I'M REPORTING THIS NOW BECAUSE OF THE RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT OF AN INVESTIGATION OF SOME MODEL YEARS FOR THIS PROBLEM. MY YEAR WAS NOT ON THE LIST, BUT THE LINES RUSTED.
