TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED AND PREVENTED THE KEY FROM BEING RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE GEAR SHIFTER. WHEN DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT 55 M.P.H GOING AROUND A CURVE, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET HHR, AFTER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A PRETTY WIDESPREAD ISSUE. IT WILL NOW ONLY WORK INTERMITTENTLY AND CUTS OUT ESPECIALLY IN WARM WEATHER. *TR
MAY 10TH 2012 WAS THE FIRST SIGN: CHIMES AND THEN DISPLAYS: POWER STEERING FAILURE, TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT WAS FINE, THEN AFTER A FEW DAYS IT STARTED AGAIN WITH CHIMES AND NOTICE OF POWER STEERING FAILURE, THIS GOT MORE FREQUENT OVER TIME TO THE POINT OF NEVER HAVING POWER STEERING. I LOOKED THIS UP ON WEBSITE AND FOUND MANY SIGHTING OF THE SAME FAILURE WITH CHEVY HHR'S, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THE SAME PART NUMBER FOR (EPS) ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS USED IN 5 DIFFERENT MODELS AND YEARS 2003-2011 VEHICLE WITH RECALLS ON ONLY SOME MODEL/YEARS BUT NOT MINE, WHICH BRINGS US TO 2014 AND NHTSA AND GM ANNOUNCEMENT RECALL N140115 NOTE GM BULLETIN NUMBER 14119 WILL BE IMPLEMENTED FOR MODEL YEARS 2006-2008 AND EARLY PRODUCTION OF 2009 CHEVROLET HHR (NON-TURBO) AND MODEL YEAR 2003 SATURN ION TO PROVIDE EPS MOTOR REPLACEMENT FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE., ON GM'S WEBPAGE AS WILL AS REUTERS.COM STATING THE SAME: 309,160 CHEVY HHR 2006-2008 AND SEVERAL HUNDRED 2009 AND 96,324 SATURN ION FROM 2003 MODEL YEARS NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALLS WILL BE GIVEN LIFETIME WARRANTIES FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR. BUT THE DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT HONOR THIS UNLESS IT'S TIED TO A VIN NUMBER, I CALLED GM AND THE TELL ME MY VIN DOES NOT WARRANT THE COVERAGE. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE THAT I AM MISSING? I EVEN RECALL THE GM CEO ANNOUNCING THIS ON TV. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL A DISABLED AMERICAN HOW TO CONVINCE THIS HUGE CORPORATION TO DO SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS PUT THE BULLETIN 14119 LINKED TO THE MODEL VIN NUMBERS/YEAR THAT THEY THEMSELVES SAY ARE NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL BUT ARE STILL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SO I DON'T SPEND ANOTHER FOUR HOURS A DAY TRYING TO CONVINCE THE DEALERSHIPS AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT IS WHAT THEY MEANT BY WHAT THEY WROTE. I HAD JUST LEFT WORK AND HAD JUST ENTERED THE FREEWAY DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN I HEARD A CHIME FOLLOWED BY A WARNING MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD THAT READ POWER STEERING. IT WASN'T UNTIL I BEGAN TO TURN THROUGH AN OVERPASS WHEN I REALIZED THAT THE POWER STEERING HAD COMPLETLY FAILED. I HAD TO TURN TO THE RIGHT AND HOLD THE TURN USING A STRONG PULL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT IT WENT OUT. I CALLED THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL. THEY SAID NO. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THE CHEVY COBALT WHICH WAS BUILT ON THE SAME PLATFORM USES THE SAME PART AND THAT VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THIS CAR. SHE CAN BARELY TURN THE WHEEL AT A DEAD STOP. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, IT WILL BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL LEFT THEN RIGHT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. *TR
MY 2007 CHEVY HHR HAS DEVELOPED A SUDDEN ISSUE WITH THE "POWER STEERING" SHOWING ON THE DRIVER'S DISPLAY AFTER A COUPLE OF DING SOUNDS. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOSES ALL POWER STEERING. THERE IS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER, IT IS INCREDIBLY TERRIFYING, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS I WAS. ON THE FIRST OCCURRENCE ON MAY 3, THE LIGHT CAME ON, I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO A GAS STATION AND ALLOWED THE CAR TO REST FOR NEARLY HALF AN HOUR. I THEN RESTARTED THE CAR, AND THE ISSUE DID NOT OCCUR AGAIN. THEN TODAY, THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN, AND AGAIN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I PULLED ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES, THEN BACK ON. THE CAR HAD THE WARNING LIGHT AND LOSE OF POWER STEERING HAPPEN 5 TIMES TONIGHT. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BREAK EASILY THEY ARE MADE OF PLASTIC THE REPAIR FOR THIS IS OVER 400.00 AS THE WHOLE INTERIOR DOOR MUST BE REPLACED. THIS CAUSES AN ISSUE AS THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE IT TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN. IF THERE IS NO POWER YOU CANNOT OPEN THE WINDOW HENCE YOU ARE TRAPPED. I HAVE MAILED LETTERS TO THE COMPANY REQUESTING A RECALL. WITH NO SUCCESS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND HAPPENS ON MOST HHRS I HAVE SEE. I ASK EVERY OWNER I SEE AND ITS A COMMON FLAW. *JS
MY FAMILY AND I WERE INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON OR AROUND 04/29/12. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN SUDDENLY I LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON WHICH CAUSED ME TO NOSE DIVE AND ROLLOVER SEVERAL TIMES DOWN INTO AN EMBANKMENT, AND NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, WHICH IS SURPRISIING CONSIDERING HOW SEVERE THIS ACCIDENT WAS. MY VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED TOTALED BY MY INSURANCE CARRIER AS THE DAMAGES EXCEEDED THE VALUE OF THE CAR. THIS WAS A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT (NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED) THEREFORE MY CAR INSURANCE CARRIER PLACED THE BLAME ON ME AND THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS NEVER DETERMINED. I CAN HONESTLY SAY WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE LIVED THRU THIS ACCIDENT. *TR

PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE WHEN MY WIFE WAS TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY, IT WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS TO BE TRAPPED IN THE CAR DUE TO THE DOOR HANDLE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT HEARD A POPPING NOISE INTERMITTENTLY WHEN MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS; HOWEVER, THE DEALER ADVISED HIM TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

IMMEDIATELY CHECKED INTERNET CHEV 2007 HHR POWER STEERING FOUND 72 COMPLAINTS. I READ IF YOU RESTART CAR IT RESETS AND WORKS FOR AWHILE. SO IS IT BROKE OR IS IT THE COMPUTER? RESET IT SEEMS TO WORK SO HOW IS IT BROKE? OR IS IT BREAKING SLOWLY? I SEEN WHERE PEOPLE ARE REPLACING MOTOR 300 DOLLARS... COBALT SAME THING ... IS THERE CLASS ACTION SUIT BEING FILED? POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AFTER SEVERAL MILES I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND POWER STEERING CAME BACK AND THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIME IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS AND DAYS. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE ... NEEDED A NEW POWER STEERING MOTOR INSTALLED FOR $350.00. CHEVY COBALT RECALLED AND 1.5 MILLION OTHER CARS RECALLED AND THE HHR WAS NOT ... SAME POWER STEERING MOTOR ... RECALLED HHR IN CANADA ... TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED WHENEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WOULD TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ONCE RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WOULD RESET INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR WITHIN MINUTES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IGNITION KEY STUCK IN IGNITION. COULDN'T REMOVE IT. TOOK IT TO DEALER, FRIENDLY CHEVROLET TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. THE CHEVROLET MECHANIC FOUND THE PARK LOCK SWITCH DEFECTIVE ON THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE WRITER SAID IT'S A COMMON OCURANCE ON COBLT AND HHRS. AN INTERNET SEARCH PROVIDED THE SAME RESULTS; A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. IF YOU CAN'T GET THE KEY OUT YOU CAN'T LEAVE YOUR CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN AND THE KEY WOULD BECOME LODGED IN THE IGNITION. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE FAILURE BY REPLACING THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THE ONLY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WAS TO PULL DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE SHOWED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON IT RESETS. THE RESET MAY LAST FOR MINUTES OR DAYS. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THERE ARE UNLIMITED STORIES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE CHEVY COBALTS POWER STEERING MOTOR HAS BEEN RECALLED. THE HHR USES THE SAME PART AS THE COBALT. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE WARNING BELL SOUNDED AND THE DISPLAY READ POWER STEERING. WHILE IT COULD STILL BE DRIVEN, IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, ESPECIALLY FROM A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER THE FIRST LEG OF THE TRIP, THE POWER STEERING WORKED, UPON RESTARTING THE CAR, FOR ABOUT 10 MILES, WHEN THE BELL RANG AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING, AGAIN. IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN AFTER HAVING BEEN DRIVEN ON ROADS WITH A NUMBER OF TURNS, WHEREAS IT DOESN'T FAIL DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT ASSORTED MODELS OF THIS VERY SAME VEHICLE, IT LOOKS LIKE GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT IS UNWILLING TO DO THE RIGHT THING. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS NOT TO HAVE BEEN INCLUDED WITH OTHER RECALLS. *TR
I WAS RECENTLY IN A FRONT END COLLISSION WITH A CHEVY HHR LT 2007 WHERE MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. DUE TO THE AIRBAGS BEING DEPLOYED MY SEATBELTS LOCKED TO PREVENT ME FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL AND WINDOW. HOWEVER MY PASSANGER SEATBELT ( NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSANGER SEAT)LOCKED AND DUE TO THE PRESSURE OF THE LOCK/COMBUSTION CHAMBER THE PLASTIC COVER OF THE SEAT BELT BECAME PROJECTILE IN THE CAR AND HITTING MY RIGHT ARM CAUSING ABRASIONS AND BURN MARKS. I NOW HAVE A PERMINATE SCAR DUE TO THE FORCE OF IMPACT FROM THE SEATBELT COVER. *TR

MY COMPLAINT IS MY CHEVY HHR. 2007.ON FRIDAY 1/27/2012 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING MY HHR FROM WORK AND SHE REALIZE THAT SHE COULDN'T TURN THE CAR DUE TO THE POWER STEERING HAD WENT OUT.MY WIFE HAD MADE IT HOME SAFELY THANK GOD.SHE STATED TO ME IT SCARED HER WHEN SHE COULDN'T TURN THE CAR.WHEN SHE GOT OUT OF THE CAR I CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM AN FOUND OUT IT WAS THE POWER STERRING. TODAY WHILE ON LINE I FOUND THAT CHEVY HAD A RECALL ON COBALT AND NOT HHR'S.THAT IS SAD YOU HAVE A RECALL ON A CAR THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS.THIS PROBLEM NEED TO BE ADDRESS BEFORE SOMEONE GET SERIOUSLY HURT.IM CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED AND DON'T HAVE THE MONEY AT THIS TIME TO FIX MY CAR. CAR WAS PARKED. I OPENED THE PASSENGER DOOR. AS SOON AS I CLOSED DOOR THE REAR GLASS SHATTERED AND FELL TO THE GROUND. TEMPERATURE WAS NOT TOO HOT OR COLD. *KB
THE INSIDE DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE BREAKS OFF AND CANNOT BE REPLACED PER CHEVY AND GM WITHOUT INSTALLING AN ENTIRE FRONT INSIDE DOOR PANEL. YOU CANNOT EXIT THE CAR WITHOUT LOWERING THE WINDOW AND REACHING OUTSIDE TO OPEN THE DOOR. WITH POWER WINDOWS YOU CANNOT LOWER THE WINDOW IF THERE ARE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I HAVE HAD TO RESORT TO CLIMBING OVER THE CONSOLE AND OPENING THE PASSENGER DOOR AND EXITING THE CAR THAT WAY WHEN THE BATTERY DIED. IN AN ACCIDENT, THERE IS A GOOD POSSIBILITY YOU COULD NOT EXIT THE CAR THAT WAY IF SEVERELY INJURED OR ON FIRE. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM?? *TR
AT A STOP LIGHT LEFT WIPER STOPPED WORKING. PASSENGER SIDE CONTINUED TO OPERATE IN A LIGHT SNOW. MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 77K. *KB
WHILE GOING UP A CURVED ENTRANCE RAMP AT 20 MPH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR SHUT DOWN. IF I HAD BEEN GOING ANY FASTER I FEEL I WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING MOTOR HAS SHUT DOWN TWO MORE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE POWER STEERING RESUMES WORKING AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTING THE CAR. THE FAILURE HAS HAPPENED ALL THREE TIMES ON A LONG CURVE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR MP. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE (DRIVER'S DOOR) SO I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE INTERIOR OF THE DOOR (IT WAS A SMALL PLASTIC PIECE THAT BROKE), AT A COST WAS $350.00. NOW, A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER THE SAME ISSUE HAS OCCURRED. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THIS AT THIS TIME AND THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE IN OUR HOME. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH A BROKEN DOOR FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS! IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE - IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO EXIT THE CAR!! WHILE COMING TO A STOP TO MAKE EITHER A RIGHT HAND OR LEFT HAND TURN, I HAD THE POWER STEERING STOP WORKING, AND A POWER STEERING MESSAGE ILLUMINATE ON MY DASHBOARD MESSAGE CENTER. THIS HAPPENED 4 SEPARATE TIMES WITHIN A 3 HOUR PERIOD, WHILE USING MY VEHICLE TO MAKE DELIVERIES FOR A LOCAL COMPANY. IN EACH INSTANCE, I WAS ABLE TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, WAIT A COUPLE OF SECONDS, RESTART THE ENGINE, AND THE POWER STEERING WOULD WORK FOR A SHORT TIME. GM HAS REDUCED PRICE ON THE DEFECTIVE PART IN THE US, BUT, STILL NO RECALL ON THE PROBLEM IN THE US. *KB
TWO DAYS AGO, WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH IN MY PARENTS' RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT, I RECEIVED A "POWER STEERING" ALERT ON MY INFORMATION BAR AND IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LEFT TURN AND LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE ON THE STREET AT THE TIME OR I SURELY WOULD HAVE HIT THEM RATHER THAN JUST DRIVING ONTO THE CURB BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN ANY EITHER DIRECTION. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL ONLY AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTING. AFTER THE VISIT WITH MY PARENTS, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT THREE TIMES IN A TWELVE MILE DRIVE HOME. IN TWO DAYS THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED SIX TIMES WITHOUT RHYME OR REASON AT VARYING SPEEDS AND AT DIFFERENT LENGTHS OF DRIVE TIME. I FIRST DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. I DISCOVERED THAT THE CHEVY COBALT AND CHEVY HHR FROM YEARS 2006-2010 SHARE THE SAME STEERING MOTOR (NOT A PUMP WITH FLUID) AND THEY ARE A KNOWN PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THE COBALT BUT NOT THE HHR? THERE WAS TALK OF A RECALL IN CANADA FOR THE HHR BUT NOT IN THE USA? I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WHEN THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP EARLY ON SATURDAY MORNING. I STOPPED AT A SAFE LOCATION AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE POWER STEERING RETURNED ONCE I RESTARTED HOWEVER THIS HAPPENED AGAIN THE FOLLOWING DAY AND TWICE YESTERDAY AND TWICE AGAIN TODAY. I DID AN ON-LINE SEARCH AND SEE THAT MANY OTHER HHR DRIVERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH CORRECTING THIS DEFECT BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
