THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAM ON, AND THE VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO STEER. TURN THE ENGINE OFF, AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. IT IS NOW COMING ON EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, AND DOES NOT CORRECT ITSELF. I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE COBALT, WHICH SHARES THE SAME PARTS WITH THE HHR. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD RECALL THE HHR AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH FRONT DOOR HANDLES FAILED ON THE INTERIOR DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. THE FRONT PASSENGER?S DOOR HANDLE FAILED FIRST, WAS REPLACED, AND FAILED A SECOND TIME. THE FRONT DRIVER?S DOOR HANDLE FAILED MOST RECENT. THE DOORS COULD ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE EXTERIOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000. UPDATED 11/13/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED RECENTLY A DRIVER AND PASSENGER GOT INTO THE VEHICLE, CLOSED THE DOORS, THEN REALIZED THE DRIVER DID NOT HAVE THE KEY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT WOULD MOVE FREELY AND WOULD NOT LOCK WHILE IN PARK. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD REFUSE TO SHUT OFF AND THE KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE AND ROLLED AWAY, CRASHING INTO A POLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE YET THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
THE STEERING ASSIST FAILED. "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE SHOWED UP IN THE DASH. STEERING MIGHT FAIL WHILE GOING STRAIGHT, THEN WILL NOT WORK UNTIL VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF THEN RESTARTED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES INTERMITTENTLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT UNTIL KEY IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS UNDER ALL CONDITIONS. I HAVE READ OTHER GM CARS WITH SAME UNIT HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND WONDER WHY HHR HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. *TR
FIREHAWK GTA 03. THESE TIRES ARE THE ORIGINAL FACTORY ISSUE ON MY 07CHEVY HHR. ALL 4 TIRES APPEAR TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM / DEFECT. THEY ARE ALL CRACKING ALONG THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE TREAD PATTERN. WHERE THE FLAT SURFACE OF THE TIRE MEETS THE SIDEWALLS. THE CRACKS ARE HARD TO SEE AT FIRST, BECAUSE THEY SO CLOSELY FOLLOW THE DEEPEST INDENTS OF THE TREADS. 2 OF THE 4 TIRES NOW HAVE A SLOW LEAK. THEY ARE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! TO DATE, NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES. CHEVY SAYS "TIRES' ARE COVERED BY MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. FIRESTONE SAYS THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OEM PRODUCTS! WHAT A BUNCH OF FINGER-POINTERS! THESE TIRES NOW HAVE 43,100. MILES AND HAVE BEEN ROTATED EVERY 3-5 K ALONG WITH EACH OIL CHANGE. ON ANOTHER NOTE, THESE TIRES HANDLE POORLY IN MED.TO HEAVY RAINS. THEY WILL EASILY HYDRO-PLANE WITHOUT DUE CAUSE. *TR
I WENT TO GET OUT OF MY CAR AND THE DOOR HANDLE ON DRIVERS SIDE SNAPPED OFF. UNTIL I CAN GET THIS FIXED I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS WHAT IF MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN MY DOOR AND MANY OTHER SUCH THINGS COULD HAPPEN. I HAVE CHECKED AND FOUND THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF CAR AND CHEVY HAS NOT DONE ANY RECALLS AND I WAS TOLD BY A CHEVY SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS VERY COSTLY, $441 FOR PARTS AND LABOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED INCORRECT READINGS, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BECAUSE THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 43,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO EXPERIENCED A STEERING FAILURE WHILE MAKING A TURN IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EXTERIOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE AND THE PANEL; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT DETER THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE POWER STEERING FAILED ON THE CAR WHILE PARKED. IT WAS DETERMINED A SHORT OCCURRED IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT CAUSED THE ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING MOTOR TO STOP WORKING. CHANGED OUT THE FUSE TO A MUCH HIGHER RATING, FUSE STILL BLEW OUT. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR ENGINEERS THAT WERE CONSULTED SAID THAT DISASSEMBLY OF THE COLUMN WAS NOT NEEDED TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE SHORT. ALSO THE INSURANCE COMPANY WERE CALLED IN TO SEE IF A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT CAUSED THE SHORT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DETERMINED THAT THE SHORT WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE ACCIDENT.
2007 CHEVY HHR HAVING PROBLEMS WITH STEERING. CAR IS BASED ON COLBALT AND WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR FEW YEARS. THE STEERING IS HARD , JERKY, NOT RELIABLE. CAN THE RECALL BE ENLARGED TO COVER HHR S FOR SAME YEARS? MILEAGE IS UNDER 50,000 MILES AND NOT ABUSED. *TT
PROCEEDING AT NORMAL SPEED ON HWY 14. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY AN ILLUMINATION OF THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT. THERE WAS A LOUD POP SOUND EMANATING FROM THE FRONT THE VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING AND I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY ON FIRE BY THE TIME I REACHED THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS FULLY INVOLVED IN FIRE AND WITHIN A MATTER OF TWO OR THREE MINUTES THE REMAINDER OF THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I DID NOTICE OTHER HHRS HAVE BEEN ON FIRE AS SHOWN ON THE INTERNET AND THE ADJUSTER STATED HHR FIRES ARE COMMON. I BARELY MADE IT OUT OF THE CAR. *TR

ORIGINALLY THE PASSENGER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE LEAVING US UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT OPENING THE DOOR USING THE OUTSIDE HANDLES. NOW THE DRIVER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BROKE AND WE CANNOT EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT LOWERING THE WINDOW AND OPENING THE DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS HAS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WE COULD POTENTIALLY BE TRAPPED INSIDE THE CAR IN AN ACCIDENT. *TT

THE FRONT PASSENGER'S DOOR LATCH BROKE UNDER NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BECAUSE IT IS MADE OF PLASTIC. YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE ONCE IT IS BROKEN, IT HAS TO BE OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OR YOU HAVE TO BE TALL ENOUGH TO REACH OVER TO THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE AND OPEN THE DOOR. LOT OF COMPLAINTS BECAUSE THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR BROKEN HANDLE IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL A COST OF OVER $250. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED WHILE MAKING A TURN CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A WALL. WHEN THE CRASH OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE CONTACT WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, AND CHEST. THE CONTACT WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE STEERING AND REPORTED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A INVESTIGATOR TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE REPORT FROM THE INVESTIGATOR DID NOT INCLUDE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT NOTICED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE STEERING SYSTEM FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,658. UPDATED 08/11/11*LJ UPDATED 08/12/11.*JB
POWER STEERING FAILURE. IT IS THE POWER STEERING MOTOR, CHEVROLET HAS RECALLED THE EXACT SAME PART FOR THE CHEVROLET COBALT, BUT NOT THE AGE HHR. *KB
AT LOW SPEED WHILE TURNING THE STEERING POPS. CLUNKS AND CATCHES. THIS ALSO HAPPENS AFTER STOPPING WITH THE WHEELS TURNED. WHEN THE TURN HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND THE STEERING RETURNS TO CENTER IT CLUNKS. ASKED THE DEALER IF THIS WAS THE SAME AS THE COLBALT PROBLEM AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT ANY PROBLEMS HE KNEW ABOUT WITH THE HHR STEERING. THIS IS A LOW MILAGE CAR AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *TT
THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME AS OF APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A CRASH. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND IT APPEARS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *JS
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH, APPROACHING A COMPLETE STOP THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. A MESSAGE COMES ACROSS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAYING MOTOR POWER REDUCED; MOTOR SHUT DOWN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT, THE REPAIR ONLY REMEDIED THE STALLING TEMPORARILY. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL SO THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT OF A GM RECALL FOR THE PCM, BUT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
POWER STEERING FAILURE WARNING LIGHT AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND HAD TO CLIMB TO THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH A DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND EVEN ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THE DOOR HANDLE WAS NOT AND WOULD BE THE LIABILITY OF THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
ON MY 2007 HHR WITH ONLY 18,500 MILES ON IT THE "POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT" CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. I LOST POWER STEERING AND HANDLING THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT WHEN I HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN AND A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. OTHER GM MODELS IN THE SAME YEAR HAD RECALLS, BUT NOT THE HHR'S. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE THE STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL UPON STARTUP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON THE INTERSTATE, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT BEEPS THREE TIMES AND MY POWER STEERING FAILS CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HAVE AN ACCIDENT - WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON, THE STEERING RESETS ITSELF BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY - I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND ITS A POWER STEERING MOTOR AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY - WHEN I STARTED RESEARCHING, I FOUND THAT MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THIS OCCUR - I CALLED CHEVROLET AND THEY SAID THAT SEVERAL CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THIS SAME POWER STEERING MOTOR HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT NOT THE HHR BUT I SHOULD CHECK BACK LATER - IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE AND VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND COULD NOT PULL MY KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF AND SHIFTED GEARS ATTEMPTING TO RELEASE THE KEY. THIS DID NOT WORK. IT PROGRESSIVELY HAD GOTTEN WORSE OVER A FEW DAYS INTERMITTENTLY I WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE KEY UNTIL THE FINAL DAY. I READ OTHERS COMPLAINTS AND USED THE RELEASE UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AS SUGGESTED AND IT WORKED, I WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE KEY. NOW I GUESS I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALLED SINCE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. *TR
POWER STEERING WILL DISPLAY ON CONSOLE & INSECONDS THE STEERING WHEEL PRACTICALLY LOCKS UNABLE TO TURN AT ALL, I PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE CAR & TURN IT ON AGAIN & WILL WORK AGAIN, THE FEAR OF CRASHING I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY STATE ITS THE MOTOR FOR THE POWER STEERING, THIS IS EXTREMLY DANGEROUS IT HAPPENED TO ME ON THE HWY. IF CANADA RECALLED THIS ISSUE. WHY NOT IN THE USA?
2007 CHEVROLET HHR. UNABLE TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. HAD TO GET CAR TOWED. *TA THE SHIFTER AND POWER STEERING FUSE WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB

I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY HHR AND BOUGHT IT USED AT A CHEVROLET DEALER IN WINSLOW, ARIZONA IN 2009. AND I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST 2 YRS. MY KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND WON'T COME OUT AFTER I PARK THE CAR. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM LAST SUMMER AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY JUST TOLD ME HOW TO GET THE KEY OUT. THERE WAS A COVER UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE AUTO GUY SHOWED ME THE LITTLE PIN. HE TOLD ME TO PUSH THE PIN TOWARD THE DRIVER WINDOW AND THIS WILL RELEASE THE KEY TO THE "OFF" POSITION AND THE KEY WILL THEN RELEASE. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY AND NOW IT OCCURS EVERYTIME I TURN THE CAR OFF AND TRY TO TURN THE KEY TO THE "OFF" POSITION. I'VE READ IT HAS TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE GEAR SHIFT. MY GEAR SHIFT ALSO GETS LOCKED IN THE PARK POSITION. GMC HAS RECALLED THE 2009 CHEVY HHR'S WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. I THINK ALL HHR'S SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED FOR NO CHARGE.. APPLIED BRAKES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND THE BRAKES PULSATED AND STEERING WOBBLES. REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND TURNED THE ROTORS AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER THAT SAME THING HAPPENS. POWER STEERING FAILURE I OWN A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR WITH 65940 MILES. TWO TIMES NOW THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND WAS TOLD THAT CURRENTLY THERE IS NO VEHICLE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THE CHEVROLET COBALT IS CURRENTLY BEING RECALLED, AND THEY BOTH USE THE SAME POWER STEERING UNIT. THE SERVICE PERSON REPORT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE POWER STEERING MOTOR IS FAILING, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE COLUMN AND POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE TOTAL COST FOR REPLACEMENT WAS QUOTED AT $765.40. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WHEN THE WARNING SOUNDED THE STEERING BECAME MORE DIFFICULT. THIS VEHICLE PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS A VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE! *TR
WHILE DRIVING OFF OF THE INTERSTATE, SLOWING FROM 70 MPH, AND TURNING ONTO THE EXIT RAMP, MY DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER GAVE 3 WARNING BEEPS AND SHOWED "POWER STEERING" IN THE DISPLAY. AT THE SAME TIME, I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT WITH MORE DIFFICULTY AT SLOWER SPEEDS. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND TURNING THE IGNITION OFF, THE WARNING WENT AWAY AND POWER STEERING RETURNED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THEN AGAIN, AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE WARNING SOUNDED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS ENTIRELY GONE. THIS HAS HAPPENED DAILY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AT VARIOUS TIMES OF THE DAY. IT HAPPENS WITHIN THE FIRST MINUTE OF DRIVING AND SOMETIMES I CAN DRIVE 10 OR MORE MINUTES AFTER RE-START BEFORE THE WARNING SOUNDS AND STEERING ASSISTANCE IS LOST. IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC WHEN THE POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE IS LOST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. HE DEPRESSED AN UNKNOWN SWITCH UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED HIM TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,700. UPDATED 12/19/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS THE GEAR SHIFT CONTROL. WHEN THE MICRO SAFETY SWITCH WAS INOPERATIVE, THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER MAY BE MOVED FROM PARK ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE OTHER GEARS. IF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT SET, THE VEHICLE WOULD MOVE. I AM AN OWNER OF 2007 HHR WITH 51,000 MILES. I LOCKED MY CAR WENT INTO THE STORE CAME OUT AND THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THE REMOTE BUTTON WOULD WORK THE LOCK UP AND DOWN BUTTON BUT STILL THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. I THEN PUT THE KEY IN THE DOOR AND STILL IT WOULD NOT OPEN. THE LOCK FLIPS UP AND DOWN WITH THE KEY AND THE REMOTE BUT THE DOOR HANDLE WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR. THE HANDLE IS NOT BROKEN. SO I ENTERED THE CAR BY THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, CRAWLED OVER THE SEAT AND SHIFT LEVEL TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL TO DRIVE HOME. AFTER ARRIVING HOME I COULD NOT GET OUT OF MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. IT WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE, SO I HAD TO CRAWL OVER THE SHIFT AND SEAT TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A TORN MUSCLE IN MY ARM SO IT HURT TO DO ALL THIS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE LATCH INSIDE THE DOOR FOR $397. THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS. THAT WAS 7 DAYS AGO. TODAY, I WENT TO TOWN WITH MY HUSBAND AND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. NOW I COULD NOT EXIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS IS CRAZY. SAME THING ON THE PASSENGER DOOR. WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE AND I HAD TO CRAWL OVER TO GET OUT. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AND FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE DISABILITIES IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. ALSO, IF WE WERE TO HAVE ANY ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT. WHAT IF A CHILD WERE IN THAT SEAT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE ANYONE WITH THIS ISSUE BUT AFTER LOOKING ON THE INTERNET IT IS A VERY BIG ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED TO FIX IT BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY HURT BY NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO GET OUT IN ANY SITUATION. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE HANDLE OR OUTSIDE HANDLE SO YOU ARE STUCK INSIDE OR LOCKED OUTSIDE. *TR

2007 CHEVROLET HHR THE SHIFTER WILL NOT LOCK INTO GEAR AND KEY IS STUCK IN IGNITION. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AS SEEING WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING YOU CAN GO INTO ANY GEAR AT ANYTIME IF IT IS ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED WHICH CAN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I HAD TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY TO TURN EVERYTHING OFF SINCE THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN OPENING THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, THE LATCH FRACTURED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE DUE TO A DISABILITY OF HER LEFT ARM. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE JUST THE HANDLE BUT WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY HHR. I AM TAKING IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER FOR THE 3RD TIME FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND IT RUNNING IN REDUCED POWER MODE - WHICH SEEMS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE HAD THE THROTTLE SWITCH REPLACED, THE CONNECTOR REPLACED AND THE WIRING CHECKED. THE RPM HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHICH IS VERY VERY UNSAFE ON 45 MPH ROADS. I THOUGHT THIS WAS FIXED - TWICE - BUT ENDED UP NOT BEING ABLE TO PICK UP SPEED AND COULD HAVE BEEN HURT IF I HAD BEEN REAR -ENDED.I HAVE CHECKED SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS (WWW.CHEVYHHR.NET) AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILS ALMOST EVERY TIME MY CHEVY HHR (2007) IS DRIVEN. THIS LEAVES THE VEHICLE HARD TO CONTROL. I AM TOLD THAT THE ELECTRIC MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE SAME ELECTRIC MOTOR THAT IS IN THE CHEVY COBALT AND CERTAIN PONTIACS THAT WAS RECALLED. GM WILL NOT RECALL THIS MODEL AND IS FORCING DRIVERS TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH FAULTY AND HAZARDOUS POWER STEERING MOTORS, OR PAY TO REPLACE THEM ON THEIR OWN. *TR
THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FAILS AT 70DEGREES FARENHEIT AND ABOVE.CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME HARD TO TURN AS IF THE IGNITION KEY IS TURNED OFF. *JS
