CHAMPION CHEVROLET -ATHENS AL DATES AND WITNESSES CAN BE PROVIDED 3 TIMES IGNITION LOCKED 3 TIMES KEY WOULD NOT WORK IN THE DOOR-LOCKED OUT ONE EACH SINCE THE RECALL IGNITION WAS REPLACED AUG 7TH THE FIRST IGNITION LOCK IN APRIL/MAY WAS TOWED TO MCLANDERS MCCLARDY HUNTSVILLE AL -REPAIRED UNDER THE FIRST IGNITION RECALL- HAVE RECALL LETTER AND THE REPAIR TICKET. THE IGNITION HOUSING WAS BUSTED IN THAT INCIDENT AND CHAMPION DISCOVERED IT LOCKOUTS- I WAS AN HOUR LATE FOR A FASTING ULTRASOUND. LATE FOR HOMECOMING AT CHURCH AND FOOD RUINED LOCKED IN THE HEAT. TWICE ON IGNITION STRANDED LATE EVENING IN PARKING LOTS. ONCE AFTER BACK SURGERY ON A WALKER. I AM GENUINELY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AT THIS POINT. GM CASE NUMBER IS [XXX]. GM INSISTS I PAY THE $300 FOR THE HOUSING OR TAKE IT UP WITH MCLANDERS-MCCARDY?? I HAVE USED ALL MY ROADSIDE FOR 2 QUARTERS. GM HAS NOT REFUNDED THE $50 LOCKOUT CHARGE 3 DAYS AFTER THE 2ND IGNITION WAS REPLACED. ISN'T THE IGNITION HOUSING PART OF AN IGNITION? TODAY FROM GM: . I JUST HUNG UP WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY MENTIONED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH HOUSING IS DAMAGED AND THAT IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE KEY TO HANG UP. THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO PREVENT YOUR KEY FROM GETTING STUCK. ONCE THAT IS COMPLETED THEY CAN PROCEED WITH DIAGNOSING THE CAUSE OF THE LOCKOUT CONCERNS YOU'VE EXPERIENCED. I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU SAID THAT A PREVIOUS DEALERSHIP WAS THE ONE WHO WORKED WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH HOUSING LAST. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING WE CAN OFFER COST ASSISTANCE FOR, AS IT IS NOT AN ITEM INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. SINCE YOU MENTIONED IT WAS IN MCLANDERS/MCCARDY'S POSSESSION WHEN THE HOUSING WAS DAMAGED, I WOULD RECOMMEND GETTING IN CONTACT WITH THEM TO DISCUSS AVAILABLE OPTIONS. SINCE WE GOT THE HHR 3 YEARS AGO WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS 5 DIFFERENT TIMES BECAUSE THEY BECOME WARPED. THE NEW ONES ONLY LAST A MONTH, MAYBE A 1,000 MILES OF WEAR BEFORE THE BRAKES START TO BECOME WARPED AGAIN. TWO MONTHS AGO BEFORE I COULD GET IT INTO THE SHOP TO REPLACE THE ROTORS I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE DOING ABOUT 5 MPH WHEN I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT THE SHOP, 50 MILES AWAY, TO FIND OUT THAT A BRAKE PAD WAS COMPLETELY MISSING!!! APPARENTLY THE WARPED ROTOR UNEVEN SURFACE JERKED THE BRAKE PAD OUT OF ITS SETTING AND THAT IS WHY IT WAS MISSING. THE MECHANIC HAD TO DO A COMPLETE BRAKE (FRONT) JOB USING THE BEST ROTORS ON THE MARKET 2 MONTHS AGO AND IN LESS THAN 1 MONTH, WITH NO HEAVY BRAKING, THE BRAKES ARE ONCE AGAIN SHOWING SIGNS THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARPED---STEPPING ON THE BRAKES IT IS JERKING ONCE AGAIN, AND NOW THEY ARE ALMOST AS BAD AS THEY WERE WHEN I TOOK THEM IN TO GET REPAIRED. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY REALIZING THE POSSIBILITY OF ANOTHER BRAKE PAD COMING OFF WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE READ ONLINE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. THE POWER STEERING MOTOR GO OUT WHEN I WAS DRIVING FROM EL CAJON CA TO EL CENTRO CA, JUST ON THE DANGEROUS ROAD MILES AND COULD HAVE ENDED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT MINE HAS JUST STARTED TO GO OUT ON MY 2008 HHR AT 90,000 MILES. RIGHT NOW, THE LIGHT COMES ON AND I CAN PULL OVER AND RESTART IT AND IT'S FINE, BUT HOW LONG WILL THAT LAST? I GOOGLED IT AFTER IT FIRST HAPPENED, AND THAT'S WHEN I SAW THAT APPARENTLY GM KNOWS THIS IS A FAULTY PART BUT SWEARS IT'S ONLY AN ISSUE ON THE OTHER CARS THAT HAVE IT NOT THE HHR, YET THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF HHR OWNERS WHO HAVE POSTED ABOUT THEIR POWER STEERING GOING OUT AND IT WAS RECALLED IN CANADA. I KNOW AT 90,000 MILES THINGS MIGHT BE GOING WRONG WITH THE PARTS LIKE A POWER STEERING MOTOR, BUT I AM INCENSED THAT I'M EXPECTED TO PAY FOR A PART THAT GM KNOWS IS CRAP. IF THE PART IS BAD, THEY SHOULD FIX IT IN ANY VEHICLE THAT HAS AN ISSUE, NOT JUST THE COBALTS AND PONTIACS. *TR
AROUND APRIL MY CAR STARTED TO HAVE A HARD TIME ACCELERATING. A WARNING CANE ON THE DASH THAT READ "LOOSING ENGINEPOWER" OR WORDS TO THAT EFFECT. WHEN I WOULD BRAKE MY CAR WOULD SHAKE. WHEN I WOULD DRIVE AT ABOUT 35 MY CAR STEERING WHEEL WOULD START B TO SHAKE AND WAS HARD TO CONTROL. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD THE OIL CHANGE, ALL FOUR BREAKS REPLACED, THE TECH TOOK A RIDE WITH ME TO HEAR AND FEEL WHAT MY CAR HAD BEEN DOING. HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS BUT RAN A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT AND IT SAID MULTIPLE THINGS MAYBE WRONG WITH, SUCH AS THE FUEL INJECTOR, THE TURBO HAD CAME UP AND A FUEL REGULATOR AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY INSURED ME IT WAS. MY CAR CONTINUED TO MAKE ALL THESE SOUNDS AND STRUGGLED TO ACCELERATE AND THE BREAKS WERE STILL SLIPPING. ON APRIL 17TH I WAS DRIVING ON MY SON'S FIELD TRIP AND SUDDENLY MY CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER. I PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AT THE TRUCK STOP. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND OIL WAS EVERY WHERE. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY SAID THE TIMING CHAIN HAD BROKE, CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY ENGINE. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE. HAD MY CAR BEEN PROPERLY DIAGNOSED, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. I AM NOW OUT I FOUND A VEHICLE DUE TO THIS MISDIAGNOSIS. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS. *TR

I HAVE A INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE THE SAME AS OTHER HHRS COVERED ON A RECALL WHY IS MINE NOT COVERED. MANY PEOPLE WITH SAME YEAR HAVE SAME PROBLEM. *JS

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS ALREADY COMPLETED IN MAY OF 2014 AND WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT DID NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
TRAVELING ON CURVY HIGHWAY WE HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, STOPPED CAR AND SHUT ENGINE OFF AND LOOKED CAR OVER AS WELL AS FUSES. WHEN WE STARTED CAR THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING. TALKED TO CHEVROLET DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT ON ANY RECALL AND WAS GOING TO COST UP TO 350.00 TO CHANGE. SINCE THAT TIME WE HAVE LIVED WITH IT DUE TO FINANCES, OVER THE LAST MONTH IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND HAPPENED 6 TIME TODAY. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2009 HHR'S (#14119) BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE 2008 THAT I AM SURE THEY ARE USING THE SAME PARTS ON THIS MODEL AND AND OTHERS SO WHY NOT INCLUDE 2008 MODELS.
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AS I WAS SLOWING TO MAKE A TURN AND A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER THAT SAID POWER STEERING. OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT 2 - 3 DAYS I LOST POWER STEERING IN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 35 - 40 TIMES. WE THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH WORK DONE. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR 1 1/2 MONTHS. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUES UNTIL ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER I PICKED THE CAR UP AND HAVE CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH LOSING POWER STEERING AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, MY CAR SEEMS TO BE DOING THE SAME THING THAT THE 2009 & 2010 HHR'S THAT ARE BEING RECALLED ARE DOING. *TR

POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. AT FIRST THIS ONLY HAPPENED DURING THE HEAT OF THE DAY BUT NOW IS HAPPENING NO MATTER WHAT TIME OF DAY I DRIVE. SPEED DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR AS I CAN BE GOING SLOW OR THE POSTED SPEED FOR THE ROADWAY AND IT WILL OCCUR.
BECAME AWARE OF LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT STOP SIGN. DROVE 1/4 MILE, STILL NO POWER STEERING AND NOTICED INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAY READOUT "POWER STEERING". TURNED IGNITION OFF, RESTARTED ENGINE, POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL A OPERATION. INTERNET SEARCHES INDICATE INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING PROBLEMS ARE COMMON ON THE HHR. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON SIMILAR MODELS AND RECALLS ON THE HHR IN CANADA. WHY NO RECALL IN THE US? *TR

WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO TEST ON HWY CONDITION BUT IT CAME WITH EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY THE FIRST TIME GOT ON FREEWAY SHAKE HORRIBLE WHILE BRAKING. TWO MONTHS PAST HAD ROTORS TURNED NEW BRAKES PUT ON BY GOOD YEAR SHOP FIRST TIME ON FREEWAY STILL SHAKES HORRIBLE. WITH NE ROTORS AND PADS WILL STILL SHAKE THIS HAS BEEN FULLY INSPECTED TWICE AND NO PROBLEMS. IT JUST SEEMS TO ME THAT ARE TO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE NOT TO HAVE A TSB OR RECALL ITS NOT FAIR TO THE CONSUMER AND ITS SEEMS DANGEROUS TO HAVE A SHAKING CAR WHILE SLOWING DOWN AT 50 MPH 40 MPH. THE LEFT REAR POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS INOPERATIVE. THE REAR DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED ( FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE) EITHER WITH POWER ASSIST OR MANUALLY PULLING THE LOCK PLUNGER. I HAVE TO USE PLIERS GRABBING THE DOOR LOCK PLUNGERS ( PULLING UPWARD) TO FORCE THE LOCK OPEN ALLOWING ME TO OPEN REAR DOOR (EXCESSIVE FORCE REQUIRED ALONG WITH SOMEONE PUSHING THE POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH SIMULTANEOUSLY). ONCE IN THE LOCKED CONDITION YOU CAN NOT OPERATE THE DOOR FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. REAR SEAT OCCUPANTS WOULD BE TRAPPED IN BACK SEAT WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I CHECKED THE CHILD SAFETY SWITCH AND IT IS NOT ENGAGED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS REAR SEAT OCCUPANTS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE CAR IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE. THE RIGHT SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED SIMILARLY ( SAME CONDITION) ON THIS SAME VEHICLE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WAS REPLACED. NOW GM DEALER SAID IT WAS MY ISSUE AND GM WOULD NOT COVER REPLACEMENT OR COST TO INSTALL REPLACEMENT PART. I WANT THIS SAFTEY ISSUE DOCUMENTED IN AN INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY FILE IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. *JS

I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 CHEVROLET HHR AND EXITING OFF OF I95 IN JACKSONVILLE FL WHEN ALL OF A SUNNED MY POWER STEERING (ELECTRIC STEERING) WHET OUT, AS IT QUIR OPERATING THERE WAS A WARNING LIGHT THAT CAME ON IN MY INSTRUMENT PANEL THAT READ "POWER STEERING", I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND CONSULTED MY OWNERS MANUAL AND COULD FIND NOTHING THERE TO HELP WITH WHAT MAY BE THE CAUSE. I STARTED THE VEHICLE BACK UP AND WAS GOING TO TRY AND JUST GET IT TO MY HOUSE WHICH WAS ONLY 5-6 MILES AWAY AND WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE BACK UP THE POWER STEERING WAS OPERATING NORMAL AGAIN SO I THOUGHT MAYBE A FLUKE, AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME ALL SEEMED FINE UNTIL I WAS MAKING A TURN AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF MY TURN NEARLY CAUSING ME TO RUN IN TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER AGAIN AND WAITED FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND THE STEERING WAS AGAIN OPERATING NORMAL. THE CHEVROLET COBALT HAS THE SAME ELECTRIC STEERING MOTOR AS THE HHR AND HAD A RECALL AS I UNDERSTAND ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET BUT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE ISSUED FOR THE HHR YET ALTHOUGH IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AS THE COBALT DID. THE STEERING ON THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS AT BEST AS YOU HAVE NO IDEA AS TO WHEN YOU WILL LOOSE POWER STEERING AND RUN THE RISK OF RUNNING IN TO SOME ONE. *TR

I WAS TOLD MY HHR WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS AS THE 2009-10 MODELS ARE NOT ON RECALL BECAUSE IT WAS MADE IN A DIFFERENT PLANT OR A DIFFERENT PART!!!!
