THE CONTACT HAD TO TRY SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC MADE SEVERAL UNKNOWN REPAIRS BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE AND ALLOWED THE ENGINE TO RUN FOR A FEW MOMENTS. THE VEHICLE THEN CAUGHT ON FIRE. THERE WERE NO OCCUPANTS WHEN THE FIRE OCCURRED AND THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 123,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT'S FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT RAN A STOP SIGN. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN LOCATION. THE CONTACT'S WIFE SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
ABOUT WEEKS BEFORE THE INCIDENT, MY CAR SEEM TO MISFIRE. THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR 3 DAYS. WHEN TRIED TO START IT, THE ENGINE EXPLODED AND CAUGHT FIRE. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND MOTOR OIL COVER AND SOME OTHER ENGINE PARTS EXPLODED OUT OF CAR. WHEN CONTACTED GM AND MENTIONED THE INCIDENT, NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY GM AND THE REFUSE TO TAKE ANY ACTION OR ACKNOWLEDGE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. IT APPEARS THAT SAME ENGINE HAS ISSUES WHICH CAUSED A RECALL ON APRIL 14, 2009. THE SYMPTOMS/CAUSE ARE DESCRIBED AS: "GM RECALLED 1.5 MILLION VEHICLES WITH THIS ENGINE ON APRIL 14, 2009 DUE TO RISK OF FIRE FROM ENGINE OIL LEAKING UNDER THE VALVE COVER GASKETS ONTO HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. THE FIRE COULD SPREAD TO THE NEARBY PLASTIC SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS ON THE VALVE COVER AND THEN TO THE REST OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. GM FITTED THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH REDESIGNED SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS.[3] THESE ENGINES WERE NOTED FOR HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PLASTIC UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD CRACKING AROUND THE EGR PASSAGE. THE ENGINE WOULD THEN VAPOR LOCK. " I DID TAKE MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP TO TAKE CARE OF THIS RECALL BUT IT APPEARS THAT IT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT STILL EXISTS AND MY CAR IS TOTALED. BUT GM HAS TOLD ME THAT ACCORDING TO TEXAS LAW IT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ISSUES AFTER 4 YEARS FROM THE PURCHASE DATE. *TR
OIL AND COOLANT (ANTI-FREEZE) IS EVAPORATING OR BEING BURNED UP. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ONLINE, IT SEEMS THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE MATERIAL USED BY CHEVY WITH REGARD TO A GASKET CALLED A PLENUM THAT IS LOCATED IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE GASKET WARPS UNDER HEAT AND AGE AND ALLOWS COOLANT AND OR OIL TO ENTER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH EVAPORATES. WITH THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS I FOUND ONLINE, THIS SEEMS LIKE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE CHEVY IMPALA 3.8L V6 TYPE 2 ENGINE. GM SHOULD REPLACE THE INFERIOR MATERIAL USED WITH A SUPERIOR METAL GASKET. THIS ISSUE SEEMS LIKE IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE IN THE ENGINE. I ALSO READ THAT THIS ISSUE CAN CAUSE OIL TO BE BURNED. GM USED A CHEAP GASKET TO SAVE MONEY BUT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN COOLANT AND OIL IS BEING BURNED UP INTERNALLY AT AN UNUSUAL SPEED OF TIME. THE SECOND UNKNOWN ISSUE IS, WILL THIS CAUSE A FIRE? *TR
WHILE DRIVING AND HIGH BEAM ON, THE HEADLIGHTS TOTALLY GO OUT. MOVE LEVER ON STEERING COLUMN TO ACTIVATE LOW BEAM, THE LIGHTS COME BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES AND IS VERY SCARY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER PLENTUN WAS MELTING AS A RESULT OF IT BEING TOO CLOSE TO THE MOTOR AND RECOMMENDED HAVING THE COMPONENT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
TRANSMISSION OVERDRIVE SHAFT SPLINE IS STRIPPED PREVENTING THE OVERDRIVE FROM BEING USED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A NEIGHBOR JUST NOW, BUT THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM OCCURRED AT LEAST 2 YEARS AGO WITH APPROXIMATELY 110,000 MILES ON IT. I JUST HAD THE EXACT TRANSMISSION ISSUE CONFIRMED NOW. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR IT WOULD JUST STALL OR DIE AS IF SOMEONE HAD REACHED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WOULD NOT START FOR A FEW DAYS. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS CAR TO TWO MECHANICS AND NEITHER WERE ABLE TO STOP THE PROBLEM BUT TOLD ME THAT DIFFERENT PARTS WERE THE CULPRIT, SO 800 DOLLARS LATER I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER, FUEL PUMP, CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR, MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR,REPLACED THE BATTERY, TESTED THE ALTERNATOR, TESTED THE FUEL INJECTORS BOTH HOT AND COLD, TESTED THE IGNITION MODULE AND STILL THE CAR DIED LEAVING MY CHILD AND I STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY IN COLD TEMPERATURES. I THEN CALLED A GM DEALERSHIP WHOM SAID ANOTHER 120.00 JUST TO LOOK AT IT AND SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM . THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! *TR
COOLANT LEAK AT GASKET BETWEEN BLACK FRP (FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC) UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD / PLENUM AND METAL INTAKE MANIFOLD NEAR THROTTLE BODY. NHTSA 10006144. *TR
THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE FAILED, FORTUNATELY IN THE DRIVEWAY. INSPECTION OF THE LINES SHOWED HEAVY CORROSION ON ALL FOUR LINES. THE FAILURE ON THE RIGHT FRONT LINE WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND THE ENGINE AND THE HOLE WAS A LARGE ENOUGH TO DRAIN THE RESERVOIR IN 5 OR 6 PEDAL DEPRESSIONS. *TR

2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE ACCELERATES BY ITSELF. *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, DURING A RAIN STORM. THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED/FISH-TAILED IN THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER STRUCK A TREE AND FLIPPED OVER. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.
CAR WILL NOT START. IT APPEARS TO BE THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. NEED TO WAIT FOR SYSTEM TO RESET AND IT WILL START. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND MANY OTHER GM VEHICLES. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER WAITING A WHILE SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 57,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE A REFUND FOR PAYING FOR THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER.*SS THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. *JB
NO WARNING, NO EVENT LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. 2000 CHEVY IMPALA LS 3.8 STALLS CONSTANTLY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, SO THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ALL OVER JUST LOOK IT UP ON THE INTERNET, DON'T KNOW WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH IN THE FAST LANE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THE CAR JUST STALLED, ALSO STALLED AT A RED LIGHT, ALSO STALLED TRAVELING AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND AT 30 MPH (ALMOST REAR-ENDED ON BOTH OCCASIONS). CHEVY DOES NOT HAVE AN ANSWER, CHEVY MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL GM CARS FOR YEARS. WHY IS THIS NOT KNOWN TO THE PUBLIC? THEY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AND IT STALLED ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD. NOW THEY WILL TRY REPLACING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR BUT WILL NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. NEXT THEY WOULD TRY THE MASS AIR SENSOR. THIS IS A KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM THAT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC IF IT HAPPENED AT THE WRONG TIME. I KNOW, I WAS ALMOST KILLED ON THAT MAJOR HIGHWAY THAT DAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ABRUPTLY TO THE FLOOR WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP UNTIL THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO THE PARK POSITION IN COMBINATION WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. THE CONTACT REPLACED BOTH REAR BRAKE LINES DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 148,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN MY 2000 CHEVY IMPALA GETS TOO HOT THE TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO STICK, AND THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN, AND THEN TRANSMISSION SHIFT VERY PULLS HARD. IT OCCURS MOSTLY AS THE WEATHER STARTS TO GET WARM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE SINCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO DEACTIVATED ON ITS OWN ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION AND FAILED TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
SECURITY LIGHT FLASHING, WONT START OR IF IT STARTS THE RADIO AND ALL CLUSTER GAUGES WONT WORK. *TR
2000 IMPALA, CAR HAS DIED 2 TIMES SINCE PURCHASED 2 WEEKS AGO FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING. ALL ELECTRICAL STILL WORKS BUT STARTER WILL NOT ENGAGE, AFTER 5-30 MINUTES OF WAITING IT WILL START. CHEVY DEALERSHIP SAYS TO CHANGE THE IGNITION SWITCH SOMETIMES IT HELPS. CHEVY KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT WONT DO ANYTHING IT. ALSO HAVE THE TURN SIGNAL ISSUE WHERE THEY QUIT WORKING UNTIL YOU TURN ON THE FLASHERS. FUEL GUAGE DOESNT WORK. ALL OF THE RECALLS HAVE BEEN DONE TO THIS CAR. WHY WONT CHEVY FIX THE DANGEROUS ONE ABOUT THE CAR STALLING AT FREEWAY SPEED AND LOOSING THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES DO TO A STALLED ENGINE. 119000 MILES ON THE CAR. *TR

MY 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA HAS A PROBLEM A COUPLE OF TIMES EVERY MONTH WHERE IT WON'T START UP. I'LL TURN THE KEY AND NOTHING HAPPENS. SO I'LL JUST WAIT 15-30 MINUTES AND IT STARTS UP FINE. MULTI FUNCTION HEAD LIGHT SWITCH I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE OTHER NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OFF I HAD TO HOLD THE LEVER TO ENGAGE THE HIGH BEAMS THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AS LONG AS I HELD ON TO THE LEVER. I WENT TO THE AUTO PARTS STORE TO DISCOVER THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLETS THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS 330 DOLLARS VERY EXPENSIVE . *TR
I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE DIMMER SWITCH ON THE STEERING COLUMN HAS FAILED/MISFUNCTIONED SEVERAL TIMES AND IS NOW LOCKED IN A PERMANENT "HI BEAM" POSITION. THE LIGHTS HAVE TOTALLY FAILED IN THE PAST. A WEBSITE NAMED "TOPIX.COM" HAS CITED MANY INSTANCES OF THIS TYPE OF LIGHT FAILURE, RESULTING IN SEVERAL NEAR MISSES AS REGARDS SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. T IS VERY APPARENT (AND EVIDENT FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FILED WITH YOUR OFFICE) THAT THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR WHICH CHEVROLET IS DENYING THE EXISTENCE AND/OR RESPONSIBILITY OF ANY PROBLEM. THEY ARE SIMPLY IGNORING THIS SERIOUS ISSUE AND TRYING TO CHARGE ANYWHERE FROM $600 TO $800 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM THIS PROBLEM APPARENTLY EXTENDS THROUGH MANY MODEL YEARS, FROM 2000 (OR EARLIER)TO 2007/2008. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE DRIVING AT NIGHT IS KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE REGARDING PRIOR COMPLAINTS, AND WHAT YOU INTEND TO DO TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED AND CONTINUED TO STALL SPORADICALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS AVAILABLE.
TURN SIGNALS HAVE STARTED NOT WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. NOT GOOD IF YOU HAVE TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE GOOGLED IT AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ALTHOUGH NOT ON THIS WEBSITE. MOST RESOURCES SAY IT IS THE HAZARD SWITCH. *TR
THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING UNIT IN THE 2000 IMPALA, BUT THIS IS THE LATEST; ON JULY 14 ,2010 I TOOK THE 2000 IMPALA INTO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING FLUID. ASK THE SERVICE DEPT. MANAGER TO FIX IT. HE THEN DIAGNOSED THE CAR AS OIL SENSOR SWITCH LEAKAGE. AND HE COULD NOT MAKE REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART, BUT THE DIAGNOSE COST WAS $75.00 , SO I PAID AND DROVE OFF WITH A LEAKING 2000 CHEVY IMPALA . LATER,I NOTICE THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER WROTE THE SERVICE ORDER UP AS THE CUSTOMER SAID THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL. NOT TRUE, I SAID FLUID. THE LEAK GOT WORSE. I REPLACED THE OIL SENSOR BUT THE LEAKAGE DID NOT STOP. THEREFORE, I PARK THE CAR FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. ONE DAY I RAISED THE HOOD, TOOK A SMALL FLASHLIGHT AND TRACED THE LEAK TO TWO SEVER LINES. THE HARD RUBBER FLAP THAT IS MOUNTED TO THE CAR BODY TO KEEP DEBRIS OUT OF ENGINE RUBS AGAINST TWO FRAME MOUNTED LINES UNTIL IT CUT THROUGH BOTH LINES. THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTIFICATION AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE KEY POSITION MOVED WHILE IT WAS IN THE IGNITION. THE FAILURE AFFECTED THE ENGINE, POWER STEERING, AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO BRAKE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED AND DECLARED THE VEHICLE DESTROYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED AN EXTENSIVE LACERATION WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG COMPONENTS PROJECTED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER HAD CONTINUOUS HEADACHES AND THE INJURY REQUIRED STITCHES. CHEVROLET OF MORRISTOWN (5320 WEST ANDREW JOHNSON HWY, MORRISTOWN, TN 37814, 423-408-2966) WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION AND REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT*TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE BACKED THE VEHICLE IN HIS GARAGE, A LOUD BANG CAME FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER REMOVED THE GEAR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE AND THEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. HE SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO PARK AND IN AN INSTANT THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD. HE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, TO STOP THE FORWARD MOVEMENT, BUT TO NO AVAIL. TO STOP THE FORWARD MOVEMENT, HE APPLIED HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND EASED INTO DRIVE; THE VEHICLE EASED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP AT THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. HE TRIED SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, BUT INSTANTLY A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED DUE TO TORN GEARS. *JB
MY 2000 CHEVY IMPALA DECIDES NOT TO START ON SOME DAYS. AT FIRST, IT WAS VERY INFREQUENT AND NOW ITS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE OFTEN. WHEN I TURN THE KEY TO START MY CAR, THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENS IS THE SECURITY LIGHT TURNS ON. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE MY CAR SUDDENTLY STARTS UP AGAIN. 2000 CHEVY IMPALA LS,(THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN MY CAR WAS AT 40,000 MILES) THE TRACTION CONTROL WILL COME ON FOR NO REASON. THIS CAUSES AUTOMATIC BREAKING FOR WHICH YOU CAN NOT MOVE THE CAR YOU CAN BE BACKING UP, TURNING, OR GOING FORWARD. THE CAR WILL LAG AND THEN SHUDDER FIGHTING THE BRAKES THAT HAVE BEEN APPLIED BY THE CAR WHILE I AM ON THE GAS. I HAVE FOR MY SELF TURNED THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF. THEY HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIPS FOR TROUBLE SHOOTING AND REPLACED MANY POSSIBLE PARTS IT COULD BE AND THE PROBLEM WILL RESURFACE AGAIN. I WAS CONTENT WITH TURNING THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF ALTHOUGH WITH FURTHER RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THE TRACTION CONTROL WILL RE-ENGAGE, SINCE THIS BUTTON NEEDS TO BE PRESSED EVERY TIME YOU TURN ON THE CAR. IT WILL RE-ENGAGE ITSELF AND YOU CAN NOT TURN IT OFF. THE BUTTON BECOMES USELESS. THIS IS WHY I AM TURNING TO THE NHTSA FOR HELP. I SEE THIS BEING A HUGE SAFETY RISK THAT I AM DRIVING AND THE ABS WILL ENGAGE ITSELF BECAUSE THE TRACTION CONTROL HAS COME ON. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS MY FEAR IS THAT I WILL HAVE MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR WITH ME AND THIS HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I TOOK IT TO A GM DEALER AND THEY PUT A NEW IGNITION SWITCH ON THE CAR AND IT WAS FINE FOR 6 MONTHS. COST $500. I OFTEN COULD WAIT 10 TO 15 MINUTES AND IT WOULD START. BUT IT BEGAN HAPPENING MORE AND MORE. I TOOK IT IN TO A MECHANIC, HE RAN THE CODES AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. COST $450 AND WITHIN A MONTH IT BEGAN DOING THE SAME THING. I GOT STRANDED AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A GM DEALER AND THEY PUT A NEW BATTERY ON IT AND REMOVED ALL THE AFTER MARKET UNLOCKING MECHANISMS AND CHARGED $550. THREE DAYS LATER WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM. THERE HAS TO BE A DEFECT OF SOME SORT GOING ON IN THE WHOLE STARTING ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *TR
ON FEB.10TH OR 11TH.MY NEIGHBOR WAS ATTEMPTING TO JUMP START MY CAR BECAUSE THE BATTERY HAD FAILED DUE TO A 3 DAY SNOW STORM. AFTER TURNED THE IGNITION THE SECOND TIME, THERE WAS A LOUD BOOM. WHEN WE CHECKED THE ENGINE, WE NOTED THE MANIFOLD COVER HAD CRACKED INTO SEVERAL PIECES. ALSO THE WIRES WERE ON FIRE. MY NEIGHBOR QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. LATER, I WENT TO MY DEALER(FRANK Z CHEVROLET IN DAYTON, OH. ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE REPAIRS COULD COST FROM $1,800-$2,000 MAINLY DUE TO THE FIRE DAMAGE. SINCE I HAVE BEEN UNEMPLOYED FOR 18 MONTHS, I HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR AN ESTIMATE OF ACTUAL DAMAGE.

THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HAVING THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE MECHANICS DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE SWITCH ACCORDINGLY. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
