TURN SIGNALS FAIL TO OPERATE WHEN LEVER IS MOVED OR STOP WORKING WHEN ACTIVATED. THE ONLY WAY TO RECOVER FROM PROBLEM IS TO PRESS THE HAZARD SWITCH. THEN THE SIGNALS OPERATE CORRECTLY. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT OCCURS ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. DEALER SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM ON MALIBU AND PONTIAC CARS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. AT TIME IT WOULD START RIGHT UP. OTHER TIMES THE VEHICLE HAD TO COOL DOWN BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS AT 5 MPH, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED AND COULD NOT BE PULLED TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WERE CURRENTLY EXAMINING THE VEHICLE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE STALLED DURING STARTUP AND CRUISING. THE ENGINE STALLED 35 TIMES. THE VEHICLE WOULD USUALLY RESTARTED AFTER 5 TO 11 ATTEMPTS. ON 08/24/06, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS TAKEN.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING COLUMN MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER DECLINED TO HAVE THE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED. UPDATED 08/25/06. *JB
2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS, 3.8 ENGINE. AT 78,000 MILES THE "LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET" FAILED CAUSING LOSS OF COOLANT. REQUIRED $804 REPAIR. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PATTERN FAILURE OF GM 3.8 LITER ENGINES OF THAT YEAR, DUE TO INSUFFICIENT TORQUE ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BOLTS AND/OR A FAULTY GASKET. THIS AFFECTS OTHER GM BRANDS USING THE SAME ENGINE. A PROPERLY MAINTAINED ENGINE SHOULD NOT SUFFER THIS TYPE OF FAILURE AT 78K MILES. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD NOT WORK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD TO ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS TO GET THE TURN SIGNAL TO WORK. WHEN HE ACCELERATED, THE FUEL GAUGE MOVED TO FULL AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE DROVE OVER A SPEED BUMP, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER WAITING APPROXIMATELY THIRTY SECONDS. THE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 182,215.
TURN SIGNALS ONLY WORKING INTERMITTENTLY - MECHANIC UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM ON TEST DRIVES. THIS IS DEFINITELY AN UNSAFE CONDITION ON THRUWAY AND EXPRESSWAY DRIVING WHERE LANE CHANGING AND USE OF SIGNALS ARE NEEDED TO USE OFF AND ON RAMPS. I HAVE DONE ENOUGH RESEARCH AND SEEN ENOUGH REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE WITH BOTH THE IMPALA AND THE MALIBU TO BE QUITE SURE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE MANNER IN WHICH THIS EQUIPMENT WAS MANUFACTURED OR ASSEMBLED. I AM REQUESTING A RECALL BE ISSUED TO CORRECT WHAT APPEARS TO BE A GREAT NUMBER OF VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WITH THIS SAME UNSAFE CONDITION BEFORE IT RESULTS IN A FATALITY. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE SECURITY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED HIM TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED DUE TO THE $400 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000. DT: THE CONTACT STATED, WHILE DRIVING IN CLEAR, DRY WEATHER, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND ALL POWER IN THE VEHICLE FAILED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASSIONS. ONCE STOPPED, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE SERVICE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BY COMPUTER DIANOSTIC, ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASSIONS, WHICH DID NOT REVEAL THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE''S ELECTRICAL POWER FAILED FOR THE FOURTH TIME.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, THE SECURITY LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE FAILURE OCCURRED RANDOMLY, BUT NOW IT OCCURS VERY FREQUENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE VEERED EXTREMELY TO THE RIGHT DURING RIGHT LANE CHANGE. WHEN VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS OBSERVED TO BE LOOSE AND WOBBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE POWERSTEERING RACK WELD BROKE FROM THE FRAME AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS ALERTED BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR THE DEFECT UNDER WARRENTY. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 50 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY DURING DRY ROAD CONDITIONS.*AK 08/02/06 UPDATED. *TT
INTERMEDIATE SHAFT STICKS AND MAKES CLUNKING SOUNDS WHILE DRIVING. TSB SUGGESTED LUBRICATION KIT, THAT FIX WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. REPLACED SHAFT, NEW SHAFT HAS DEVELOPED SAME PROBLEM. THE DESIGN APPEARS FLAWED AND POSSIBLY DANGEROUS TO HAVE A STEERING COMPONENT BINDING. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE IS NO PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS AND A NEW INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WITH THE SAME DESIGN IS NOT A PERMANENT SOLUTION. *NM
THE TURN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK. THEY CUT OUT ON YOU AT THE FEW TIMES THAT THEY COME ON. THIS IS DANGEROUS. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 IMPALA LS WITH 97000 MILES. THE CAR WILL STALL AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO BOTH MY WIFE AND MYSELF SEVERAL TIMES THIS SUMMER. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR 3 OF THE LAST 4 WEEKS AND I AM TOLLED THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE A INTERNET CHECK AND HAVE FOUNDED SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM WAS FAULTY. WHEN HE INSERTED THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION, IT DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE KEY AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
TURN SIGNALS FUNCTIONALITY INTERMITTENTLY FAILS. MY AUTOMOBILE TURN SIGNALS FAILURE RATE IS AN ESTIMATED 20 PERCENT. I DRIVE MY VEHICLE NEVER KNOWING WHEN THE OPERATION OF THE TURN SIGNALS WILL FAIL. THIS IS A HAZARD TO MYSELF AS WELL AS TO OTHERS. I HAVE READ OTHER 2000 IMPALA OWNERS COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THIS SAME ISSUE ON WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS PROBLEM WITH A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THEY CLAIMED THAT NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS EXISTED CONCERNING THE TURN SIGNALS INTERMITTENT FAILURE. I HAVE TRIED TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY, IT ISN'T A BLOWN FUSE. IS IT A ELECTRICAL CONNECTION, A MALFUNCTION OF A ELECTRICAL SWITCH OR THE TURN SIGNAL UNIT? *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT. INITIALLY, IT WAS SUSPECTED THE BATTERY WAS DISCHARGED AND THE BATTERY WAS CHARGED FOR TWENTY MINUTES. AFTERWARDS, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, AND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLODED. A LARGE FIREBALL ALONG WITH PIECES OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND THE ENGINE COVER SHOT OUT OF THE UNDERHOOD AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE BACKFIRING OCCURRED DUE TO THE CONTACT STARTING THE ENGINE WHILE APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING OFF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THEY REMAINED IN THE UP POSITION. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE OF THE ENGINE ALSO ELEVATED AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, HEAD GASKETS, AND THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN ALERTED AND AGREE THE VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM, # 03034, CONCERNING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. HOWEVER, BOTH REFUSE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGE BECAUSE THE CAMPAIGN EXPIRED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S TURN SIGNAL INTERMITTENTLY DID NOT WORK WHILE TRYING TO SIGNAL IN ANY DIRECTION. ALSO THE HAZARD LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE, WHEN THE HAZARD LIGHTS BUTTON WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND DETERMINED THAT THE CONTACT MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE TURN SIGNAL. THE CONTACT FOUND MANY OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME MODEL WHO HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.
CAR RUNNING WELL -NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. PARKED CAR A LOCAL SHOPPING AREA. APPARENTLY ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE I WAS IN STORE. IT WAS NOTICED BY EMPLOYEE OF STORE WHO CALLED FIRE DEPARTMENT. ALTHOUGH THEY CAME QUICKLY THE CAR HAD TO BE TOTALED AS THE FIRE CONSUMED AND MELTED THE ENTIRE ENGINE. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 5 TO 8 MPH WITH INITIAL ACCELERATION OR ATTEMPTING TURNS. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THE FRAME WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. UPDATED 05/04/06. *JB
ENGINE STALLS WHEN IT REACHES NORMAL RUNNING TEMP, IT BECOMES HARD TO START AFTER. ONLY MAKES CLICKING NOISE. EVEN AFTER STARTER HAS BEEN REPLACED. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 15 AND 55MPH THE VEHICLE WILL SHIFT HARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED OUT. THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED; THE DRIVER'S IDE ELECTRIC HEATER BECAME VERY HOT, AND THEN FAILED TO CONTINUE HEATING THE SEAT. THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE DRIVER'S SIDE FAILURE, BUT FAILED TO WORK A FEW DAYS LATER.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE THE STEERING COLUMN MADE A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THEY DETERMINED THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE LUBRICATED OR REPLACED HOWEVER NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESTART IF THE PARK GEAR WASN'T ENGAGED. 12 - 15 TIMES ON A HILL THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED ,INCLUDING THE HEAVY TRAFFIC FLOW IN HIS AREA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 , AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000. AK
MY 2000 CHEVY IMPALA THE ENGINE COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE MANIFOLD. THIS IS CAUSING MY CAR TO CONSTANTLY BE LOW ON COOLANT, LOSS OF GAS MILEAGE, AND POOR PERFORMANCE. THIS IS A BLATANT MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY GMC. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE HEADLIGHTS GO ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY AT NIGHT. THIS LAST FROM 30 SECONDS TO 1 MINUTE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE AIRBAG MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER THE AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY WITHOUT A NEW AIRBAG MODULE.
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE PASSENGER SEAT WARMER BECAME VERY HOT. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT NOTICED UNTIL A COAT IN THE SEAT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE COAT WAS DISCARDED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE MOVING IN ORDER TO KEEP THE FIRE FROM SPREADING. THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE. *JB
1. CHILD CLIMBED INTO FRONT SEAT AND PULLED GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK INTO NEUTRAL. 2. THE GEAR SHIFT LOCK MALFUNCTIONED OR BROKE, AND AS A RESULT THE CAR ROLLED INTO THE STREET AND OVER THE NEIGHBOR'S MAILBOX. 3. CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT LEATHER WAS SEPARATING WHERE THE AIR BAG WAS LOCATED. AS A RESULT, THE AIR BAG WAS VISIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE SEAT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000. I WENT OUT TO START MY 2000 CHEVY IMPALA WITH A 3.8L ENGINE AND UPON CRANKING THE ENGINE THERE WAS A LOAD BANG. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. I GOT OUT AND OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THAT THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER AND IT WAS NOTED THAT THE UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD HAD EXPLODED AND THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE FUEL LINE BEING DISPLACED. CHEVY SAID THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INCIDENT EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THE 3.8L ENGINE UNDER THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER 04V090000. I HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA AND IT ONLY HAS 54,000 MILES ON IT. AND I HAD TO PUT A NEW INTAKE GASKET ON IT. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT WAS A PROBLEM WITH ALL 3.1 AND 3.4 CHEV ENGINES. HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE PAID FOR CHEVROLET MISTAKE. SHOULD THIS NOT BE A RECALL. *AK
2 YEAR + PROBLEM WITH AIR BAG LIGHT ON AND OFF. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST 7 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. NO REMEDY AS YET. *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT A STRANGE ODOR ENTERED THE VEHICLE FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. HE MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT VEHICLE WAS LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING FLUID HOSE AT THE CONSUMER EXPENSE. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE SERPENTINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE SUSPENSION. UPDATED 01/11/06. *JB
EVER SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY WHOLE POWER STEERING AND SUSPENSION SYSTEM. I HAVE SPENT OVER $2000 DOLLARS OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS FIXING PARTS THAT RELATE TO ANYTHING FROM THE WHEEL BEARING, RACK & PINION, BALL JOINTS AND NOW LOOKS LIKE MY POWER STEERING IS READY TO GO OUT. BASICALLY EVERYTHING MAJOR ON THE FRONT HAS FAILED. MY WARRANTY WOULDN'T COVER BECAUSE THEY SAID IT'S NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I FEEL IT'S A DEFECT BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THE SAME THINGS KEEP FAILING OVER AND OVER. I REALLY DEPEND ON MY CAR TO GET TO WORK AND FEEL THIS IS A MATTER THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT A LITTLE MORE CLOSER AND TAKEN SERIOUSLY BECAUSE FROM WHAT I SEE, A LOT OF 2000 CHEVY IMPALA OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME THING. 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA LOCKED ME IN CAR AND COULDN'T GET OUT. FINALLY GOT DOOR OPEN. *JB
COMPLAINANT WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN DRIVER'S LEATHER SEAT SUDDENLY BECAME EXTREMELY HOT, CAUSING BURNS TO LOWER BACK AND BUTTOCKS. SEAT BECAME HOT DESPITE FACT THAT SWITCH CONTROLLING HEATED SEAT HAD BEEN, AND WAS STILL IN THE "OFF" POSITION. SEAT CONTINUED TO BURN REGARDLESS OF SETTING OF 3-POSITION CONTROL SWITCH. SEAT CONTINUED TO BURN DESPITE VEHICLE BEING TURNED OFF. SEAT CONTINUED TO BURN UNTIL COMPLAINANT LOCATED DRIVER'S SIDE FUSE BOX AND REMOVED FUSE MARKED FOR DRIVER'S HEATED SEAT/BCM. VEHICLE MUST CONTINUE TO BE OPERATED WITH FUSE REMOVED AS RE-INSERTION CAUSES SEAT TO AGAIN BURN REGARDLESS OF SWITCH POSITION OR VEHICLE ON/OFF. PASSENGER HEATED SEAT WAS/IS UNAFFECTED BY THE DEFECT OR REMOVAL OF FUSE. INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE. *JB
DT: CONTACT STATES WHILE DRIVING HIS VEHICLE, HE EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES, HE HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY FOUND RUST ON THE BRAKE LINE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE AND THIS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. *JB UPDATED 12/27/05. *JB
DT: CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA; CONTACT COMPLAINT THAT BRAKE LININGS CORRODED. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, IN COURSE OF HITTING BRAKES AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THERE WAS NO BRAKES. CAR WAS TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER. MECHANIC COULD NOT FIX BRAKE LINES. CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR BRAKES TO BE FIXED AT ANOTHER DEALER . . NO INJURIES. NO POLICE REPORTS. NO CRASHES. *AK
MY 2000 CHEVY IMPALA HESITATES WHEN IT STARTS, IT SEEMS TO GET WORST WHEN IT IS ABOUT 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE. DEALER REPLACED A COUPLE OF PARTS, BUT NOW THE SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT. I SAID THAT THE SHOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE FOR A NEW ONE. I AM JUST A CONSUMER. *JB
TURN SIGNAL NOT WORKING RIGHT SOMETIME THEY WORK AND SOMETIME THEY DON'T. *NM
ENGINE SHUTS DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. ALMOST LIKE SOMEONE TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF. I PURCHASED THIS 2000 CHEV. IMPALA LS IN MAY 2005. ON MAY 30, THE ENGINE COUGHED ONCE BUT CONTINUED RUNNING SMOOTHLY, SO I DIDN'T CONSIDER IT A PROBLEM. THEN JUNE 29 IT COUGHED AGAIN BUT CONTINUED RUNNING SMOOTHLY. THAT EVENING ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK WITH NO WARNING, THE ENGINE JUST QUIT RUNNING. AFTER IT SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START IT AND CONTINUE ON MY DRIVE HOME. SINCE THEN, BETWEEN JULY 5 AND AUGUST 10, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN 7 TIMES. 3 OF THOSE WERE ON AUGUST 10. EACH TIME, AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR(POWER CHEVROLET, IRVINE, CA),ON AUGUST 12, AFTER A SHORT DIAGNOSIS, THE COMPLAINT WAS SIGNED OFF AS" ROAD TEST 5 MILES UNABLE TO DUPLICATE CUSTOMER CONCERN. THROTTLE BODY DIRTY, CLEANED THROTTLE BODY" SINCE THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON A FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR THE SERVICE REP. HAD IT REPLACED. I DIDN'T RECEIVE THE OLD REGULATOR, BUT IT DIDN'T CURE THE PROBLEM OF THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON, BECAUSE ON AUGUST 22 IT DID IT AGAIN (TWICE). SOMEONE AT GM NEEDS TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND INFORM THE SERVICE PERSONNEL OF THE FIX. AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER COULD BE IN REAL TROUBLE IF THIS HAPPENED.
MY CHEVY IMPALS LS 2000 HAS BEEN STALLING WHILE HOT ON THE PARKWAY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION. THIS WAS HAPPENING INTERMINTELY ABOUT EVERY FEW MONTHS, THEN RECENTLY IT HAS BECOME A DAILY EVENT. MAYBE 1 - 6 TIMES A DAY WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK. THE DRIVE IS ABOUT 30 MILES, ONE WAY, AND IT STALLS USUALLY TOWARD THE END OF THE TRIP. I HAD THE THRODLE BODY REPLACED LAST WEDNESDAY AT THE DEALER, AND IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. BEFORE THAT THE GAS FILTER WAS REPLACED. THIS WEEKEND IT HAPPENED FOUR TIME ON SATURDAY AND FOUR TIMES ON SUNDAY. THIS IS A VERY DANGERIOUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY ON THE PARKWAY. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER A NUMBER OF TIMES AND THEY CANNOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. AFTER THESE STALLS OTHER CARS ARE ALMOST RUNNING ME OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY. I LOVE THE CAR AND DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT, BUT IF THIS KEEPS UP I MAY HAVE TO.*AK

2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA, WINDOW SWITCH, IMPALA, LEFT DRIVERS DOOR. SWITCH WORKS INTERMIT, AND SOME TIMES NOT AT ALL. I WORK FOR A POLICE DEPARTMENT AND WE HAVE SEVERAL IMPALAS, AND HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON A FEW. *JB
