AT 39,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED WHILE SHIFTING INTO GEAR, WHICH CAUSED A LURCHING MOVEMENT EVERY TIME. *JB INITIALLY, THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM STARTED AT 26K MILES. THE DEALER STATED STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL ROD NEEDED REPLACING AND LUBRICATION. THE DIFFICULTY RETURNED. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. THE VEHICLE HAD BEGUN TO LURCH INTO GEAR WHEN STOPPED, SKIPPED GEARS IN REVERSE, AND SOMETIMES WOULD NOT DROP INTO PROPER GEAR. *SC
BLINKER, HAZARDS WOULD NOT WORK AFTER IT RAINED. HAD TO HAVE THE MULTI SWITCHED REPLACED. (GM #88964580). *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH RELEASED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING OVER SPEED BUMPS. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT WAS NOT SERVICED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS STRUCK IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS RAN INTO A TREE HEAD ON. IT IS NOW 5-28-2003 AND MY CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP BEING REPAIRED.

CHEVROLET IMPALA LS WITH 3.8L ENGINE. THE UPPER MANIFOLD WARPS AND ALLOWS COOLANT TO LEAK. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP WITH NO PARTS AVAILABLE IN HOUSTON. THERE WERE 15 ON BACKORDER. GM NEEDS TO REPLACE THIS PLASTIC PART THAT WARPS AT 17-24,000 MILES.

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS CAUSING ACCELERATOR TO STICK AND USING CRUISE CONTROL DOES THE SAME. CAUSING WRECK WITH INJURIES AND NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT UPON IMPACT OF CRASH WITH SPEED OVER 55 MPH TO HEAD ON INTO TO TREE. COULD NOT STOP CAR EVEN WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND HAD TO TURN KEY OFF TO STOP CAR FROM BLOWING UP.
VEHICLE WITH 47000 MILES FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO RIGHT HAND TIE ROD END WITH EXCESSIVE WEAR. *LA
TURNING SIGNAL FAILURE. PROBLEM IS FIXED TEMPORARLY WHEN I TAP ON THE HAZARD WARNING SWITCH. I CALLED UP MANUFACTURER TOLD ME THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HAZARD WARNING SWITCH BUT, THEY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS I PAY FOR IT. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALMOST CAUSED A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT.

CUSTOMER STATES DASH LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS ARE DIM, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. DEALER TEST DROVE AND FOUND THAT THE LIGHTS FLICKER, HOWEVER DEALER STATED THIS WAS NORMAL DUE TO THE DROP IN THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, AND SHOULD NOT CAUSE LIGHTS OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO FAIL. *TT *NLM
YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL THE GASOLINE SLOSHING AROUND IN THE TANK. WHEN TAKING OFF, IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING SHIFTING OR ROLLING AROUND IN THE TRUNK. WHEN COMING TO STOP, IT FEELS LIKE BEING BUMPED IN THE REAR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE.

THE CLEAR COAT IS COMING OFF THE CAR. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED (OCT. 26/01) AND TOOK IT TO ZIEBART TO HAVE A PROTECTIVE COATING PUT ON.(NOV. 9/01) THE GM PROTECTION PLAN WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. WHEN WE TOOK IT BACK FOR ITS ONE-YEAR CHECK-UP(OCT. 21/02),THE TECHNICIAN AT ZIEBART TOLD US THAT THE CLEAR COAT WAS COMING OFF. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON OCT. 31/02. THE WARRANTEE WAS FOR 60000 KM (38000 MILES). THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PART THAT WAS COMING OFF "AS A GESTURE OF GOOD WILL" BECAUSE THE WARRANTEE WAS UP, BUT WE REQUESTED THAT THEY DO THE WHOLE CAR, AS WE FELT THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD RECUR. "THEY DO NOT REPAIR WHAT IS NOT DAMAGED." NOW, 7 MONTHS LATER, THE CLEAR COAT IS COMING OFF A DIFFERENT PART OF THE CAR. THEY WILL COVER 50% OF THE COST OF REPAIR, BUT WHEN I ASKED WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS PROBLEM RECURS, I WAS TOLD WE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. GM CANADA IS PLAYING HARD-BALL AND BACKS THE DEALERSHIP. "THE MATTER IS CLOSED". WHEN I ASKED IF THERE WAS AN OMBUDSMAN, THEY SAID NO AND THAT MY ONLY OTHER OPTION IS "TO GET LEGAL COUNSEL OR GO TO GM MEDIATION OR ARBITRATION." DO YOU HAVE A CANADIAN COUNTERPART? THANK YOU.
BRAKES INOPERATIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN THE RAIN BECAUSE THERE ARE NO BACKING PLATES. POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT WHEN IT RAINS. FINE AT LOW SPEED, BUT NO BRAKING OVER 50 MPH. ANY TIME THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON MESSAGE CENTER LIGHT INDICATES THAT THE COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW. CONSUMER CHECKED THE COOLANT LEVELS SEVERAL TIMES TO FIND THEM UP TO PAR. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO SEVERAL MECHANICS WHO COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THE MESSAGE CENTER LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF. MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED.*AK

BENT AND TWISTED FINGERS MORSE LEE IS AN 80 YEAR OLD GENTLEMEN. HIS INDEX AND MIDDLE FINGERS ARE BENT TOWARDS HIS BABY FINGERS. HIS CENTER JOINT OF THE MIDDLE FINGERS ARE OFF PARALLEL TO THE OTHER FINGER JOINTS APPROXIMATELY 15 DEGREES. THE LAST JOINT OF THE MIDDLE FINGER IS OFF PARALLEL THE OPPOSITE TO THE MIDDLE JOINT. THE INDEX FINGER JOINTS ARE OFF PARALLEL ALSO. THESE JOINTS ARE DISPLAYING THE TYPICAL BENDING AND TWISTING FOUND WITH IMPALA DRIVERS. HE AND HIS WIFE BOTH SHARE THIS PROBLEM. THE SECURITY SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN FOR ABOUT TEN AND SOMETIMES 20 MINUTES MAKING ME LATE FOR WORK, MEETINGS AND EMERGENCIES WITHOUT WARNING.. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN IT HAPPENS AND IT USE TO HAPPEN FAR AND BETWEEN, BUT THE SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON VERY FREQUENTLY. I WORK AT NIGHT AND HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN AN EMPTY PARKING LOT A NUMBER OF TIMES. VERY DANGEROUS.

CAR WAS VIBRATING WHEN BREAKS APPLIED ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS OVER 45 MPH. PROBLEM WITH ROTORS BEING WARPED, WRINKLED AND WAVY ACCORDING TO DEALER SERVICE. HAD TO HAVE FRONT ROTORS REPLACED AT 17,000 MILES ON AUG 6TH 2002. ON MAY 23RD 2003 HAD TO HAVE FRONT ROTORS AND REAR ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN AT 28,000 MILES. CAR IS BEGINNING TO VIBRATE AGAIN MILEAGE IS 42,000.00 . I FEEL THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND SHOULDN'T HAVE TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES. *AK

SEVERE VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 45 MPH.*AK
WHILE APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED, AND RESURFACE THEM. AT 21,222 MILES THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND THE FRONT/REAR ROTORS WERE RESURFACED. AT 29,776 THE PROBLEM RECURRED , AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED, AND THE REAR ROTORS WERE RESURFACED. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE FRONT BRAKE PAD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FELL FROM BACKING RENDERING THE FRONT BRAKE USELESS. GM STATED THAT FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE NOT COVERED AFTER 12000 MILES. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE WOULD LIKE GM TO COVER AT LEAST 50% OF COST. AFTER 4 INCIDENTS OF WARPED ROTORS THE PADS FELL APART. *TC

DT: THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ABS BRAKE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALERSHIP GROUNDED THE ROTORS. ANOTHER TIME THEY REPLACED THE ROTORS, AND ANOTHER TIME THEY REPLACED THE BRAKES. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE DRUMS, ROTORS, AND PADS. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT THE PROBLEM STARTED SOMETIME IN JULY 2002. THE CONSUMER HAS RECORDS OF ALL THE MAINTENANCE THAT WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS AS OF YET. SINCE THE LAST REPAIR THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THE NOISE WHEN BACKING UP. *AK *NM
AT 25963 MILES AND AGAIN AT 40196 MILES THE BRAKE ROTORS ON THE REAR OF THE CAR HAD TO BE REPLACED. FRONT ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACED, AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED. CHEVROLET CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL WEAR, BUT HAD PREVIOUSLY INDICATED THAT THEY WERE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH ROTORS THAT WERE FLAKING AND WARPING AT 15,000 MILES. CHEVROLET REFUSED TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY.
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION OF 55 - 60 MPH AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. BEFORE THE IMPACT THE CAR FISHTAILED AND SKIDDED ON LOOSE PAVEMENT AND THE ABS/ TRACTION CONTROL WAS NEVER ACTIVATED.*AK
CONSUMER TOOK FOOT OFF BRAKE ON A SLIGHT INCLINE AND VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS LIKE DRIVING A STICK SHIFT, CONSUMER HAD TO PRESS BRAKE OR GAS IMMEDIATELY BEFORE HITTING SOME ONE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH VEHICLE WILL AUTOMATICALLY SHUTOFF. ALSO, CRUISE CONTROL AND OTHER ELECTRICAL PARTS WILL SHUTOFF. CONTACTED DEALER WHO COULD NOT REMEDY PROBLEM. *AK DEALER REPLACED ALTERNATOR, BAD FUEL PUMP WIRE AND FUEL PUMP, HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. VEHICLE IS STILL AT DEALERSHIP. *TT

GETTING RUMBLING FEEL WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, ESPECIALLY BAD AT HIGHER SPEEDS. DEALER REPLACED ALL 4 ROTORS. MY CONCERN IS THE REPAIR ORDER STATED "WARPED ROTORS" WHEN IF FACT THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE ROTORS WERE PITTED, NOT WARPED. I WAS CONCERNED BEACUSE I WAS VERY CONSCIENTIOUS TO MAKE SURE EVERY TIME THE TIRES WERE ROTATED AND BALANCED THE WHEELS WERE TORQUED TO THE DESIGNED FT LBS. I HAVE CHECKED WITH SEVERAL OTHER DEALERS AND GARAGES THEY TELL ME THEY HAVE REPLACED MANY GM ROTORS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM OF PREMATURE FAILURE (PITTING). NORMALLY WITH WARPPED ROTORS YOU GET A VIBRATION AND SURGING AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, I DID NOT HAVE THAT. I HAD RUMBLING AT 25 MPH AND HIGHER, ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN HARD BREAKING BETWEEN 55 & 65 MPH.*AK

2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA 3800 ENGINE. THERMOPLASTIC UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD WARPED AND LEAKED COOLANT WITH 18,000 MILES ON THE CAR. REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY BY GM. THIS IS A $700 REPAIR. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. GM CONTINUES TO ENGINEER COST AND RELIABILITY OUT OF THE 3800 ENGINE.
CAR ROLLS BACKWARD WHILE IN DRIVE ON INCLINE. DEALER CLAIMED THAT IT IS NORMAL. SEEMS TO ME THAT IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. ALSO WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THE TRANS WILL SHIFT BUT WHEN I ACCELERATE THE TRANS SLAMS INTO GEAR. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TAKE CAR IN TO DEALER AS THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY DAY. AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSIONS IT SEEMS THAT THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. *JB
