THE CONNECTIONS FOR THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER BECOME UNSOLDERED FROM THE WINDSHIELD AT THE CONNECTION POINTS ON THE GLASS. I HAVE SEEN THIS ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA AND A LATE 90'S CHEVROLET LUMINAS.
WE OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA , VIN # [XXX], THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW. WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS CLUNK NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR, WE WERE THEN ADVISED IT WAS THE TIRES SO WE REPLACED THE TIRES . THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK FOR REPAIR AND THE LEFT TIE ROD WAS REPLACED, THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WAS THEIR TIRES AND ALSO HAVE HAD TIE RODS REPLACED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THE SUBJECT TSB. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE REPAIR CALLED FOR IN THE TSB, LUBRICATION OF THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT USING LUBRICATION KIT # [XXX]. THIS REPAIR LASTED ABOUT 30 DAYS. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND SINCE I HAVE 38000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE NO COVERAGE FROM CHEVROLET IS AVAILABLE. *AK THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CHEVROLET SINCE BEFORE JULY OF 2002 WHEN THE TSB WAS ISSUED. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON NOVEMBER 9, 2003. WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL DEALER AND THE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS LEAKING; THEREFORE, LEAKING OIL INTO OUR COOLANT SYSTEM. *LA
MY 2001 CHEVORLET IMPALA HAS EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTORS WEARING VERY EARLY. NEW ROTORS WORE OUT AFTER ONLY 7,000 MILES. AFTER BEING "FIXED" BY 2 DIFFERENT MECHANICS, THE CAR CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE "SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL" WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS A TENDENCY TO "SLIDE" VERY EASY ON TURNS WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET. BOTH MECHANICS INDICATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED BUT THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE IDENTIFIED. ON WET ROADS, THIS IS CLEARLY A HAZARD. *LA
WHILE DRIVING A KNOCKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED GREASING.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET AT 10 MPH, THE PASSENGER'S FRONT TIRE TREAD SEPARATED, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT FENDER AND BUMPER. THE TIRE WAS A UNIROYAL - TIGER PAW, TIRE SIZE PZ25/60/16R, DOT NUMBER UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. THE TIRE WAS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT. *AK *SC *JB
PURCHASED 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA BASE MODEL. I HAVE 51,000 MILES AND MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ON ME. I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH SHOWED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITHIN THE THE TRANSMISSION. A NEW TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE INSTALLED. THIS COST $2500. THERE IS NO REASON FOR A CAR THIS AGE WITH THIS MANY MILES TO HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM, GRANTED THE WARRANTY GOES TO 36,000 MILES OR 3 YEARS WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. I AM VERY UPSET, AND IT BASICALLY SOLIDIFIED THAT I WILL NEVER BUY A GM CAR AGAIN. *AK
2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA HAS A RECURRING INCIDENT OF CLICKING NOISES AT RIGHT FRONT STEERING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS IS SUPPLEMENTAL TO THE VEHICLE DEVELOPING A UNEVEN WEAR AT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT ROTATING THE TIRES WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS THE PROBLEM GREW WORSE (INCLUDING A BADLY SHIMMYING FRONT END AT HIGH SPEEDS),I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACKED WELD ON IT CHASIS AND REPAIRED IT. WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE TIRES, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE NEW ONES AT MY OWN EXPENSE. A SMOOTH RIDE WITH NEW TIRES WAS SHORT LIVED, AS A BADLY SHIMMYING FRONT END HAD DEVELOPED AGAIN (WITHIN 24 HOURS). TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SECOND DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS A WORN TIE ROD. ONCE THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED, I PERIODICALLY HEARD LIGHT CLICKING NOISED FROM THE STEERING WHEN MAKING TURNS (RIGHT & LEFT). TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SECOND DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF LUBRICATION. ONCE LUBRICATED, THE VEHICLE STOPPED MAKING CLICKING NOISES FOR ABOUT 30 T0 40 DAYS. I NOTICED THAT THE CLICKING NOISES BEGAN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN OVER UNEVEN AREAS OF A ROAD OR PARKING LOT, OR WHEN THE VEHICLE NEGOTIATES TIGHT LEFT TURNS (LOW SPEEDS) AND WIDE/SWEEPING LEFT CURVES AT HIGH SPEEDS. NEVER THE LESS, I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM CONCERNS LUBRICATION. LATEST MAINTENANCE DATE AS INCIDENT DATE 10/16/03 (COMPLAINT: F/E SNAPPING WHEN TURNING. DIAGNOSIS: INADEQUATE LUBRICANTS IN THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. CORRECTION: REMOVED SHAFT - LUBRICATED AND RE-INSTALLED PART# [XXX]. THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP: RHODES CHEVROLET OF SWANSBORO, NC (NOW UNDER NEW NAME AND MANAGEMENT). THE DEALERSHIP MAKING REPAIRS: MARINE CHEVROLET CADILLAC OLDSMOBILE. INITIAL THUMPING/ UNEVEN TIRE WEAR IS WITHIN ONE MONTH OF VEHICLE PURCHASE 01/18/01. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH TURN SIGNAL DON'T RESPOND IN THE BOTH CARS THE BOTH ARE MADE ON THE SOME YEAR 2001 CHEVY MALIBU LS AND IMPALA
IGNITION TUMBLER FAILED AT 40000 MILES. *AK
AT 47000 MILES AND ONLY 9000 OF THESE MILES WERE PUT ON BY ME. I JUST BOUGHT IT 5 MONTHS AGO. THE LOWER INTAKE GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED. COSTING ME 813.37 THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 3800 ENGINES. MINE IS THE 3400 AND I'M TOLD BY THE REPAIR PERSON THAT IT IS COMMON IN THESE TO. WHY WON'T GM HELP ME PAY THIS REPAIR WORK. *JB
THE TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD LIGHTS DID NOT WORK AT TIMES. *AK THE HAZARD FLASHER SWITCH WAS REPLACED. *JB
WE HEARD A LOW RUMBLING NOISE WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, WE BARELY MADE IT THROUGH THE NEXT MAJOR INTERSECTION AS THE CAR WAS HARDLY MOVING FORWARD ANY MORE AND COASTED TO A BOULEVARD OFF OF A MAJOR ROAD. THE CAR JUMPED FORWARD IN PARK WHEN WE RESTARTED IT AND THEN IT WOULD NOT RESPOND WHETHER WE TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. THIS IS A 2001 VEHICLE NOW IN NEED OF A REFABBED TRANSMISSION FOR A WHOPPING $2700! THE DEALER NEVER OPENED THE TRANSMISSION TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT WENT WRONG (THEY GUESS IT'S THE GEAR SET) AND THEY REFUSE TO LET US GET A 3RD PARTY TO EXAMINE IT. THEY WILL CHARGE US A $700 NON-REFUNDABLE CORE FEE EVEN IF WE RETURN THE CORE TO THEM IN A TIMELY MANNER. ALSO, THE TIME TABLE FOR THEM TO RETURN THE PART TO GM JUST WENT TO 24 HOURS. ORIGINALLY THEY SAID IT USUALLY TAKES AROUND A WEEK FOR THEM TO SEND THE PART BACK!*AK
TURN SIGNAL FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. *AK WHEN THE SIGNAL WAS ENGAGED IT DID NOT WORK. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE HAZARD SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE MALIBU WHICH WAS RECALLED. *JB *NM
WHEN THE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS REMOVED FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE DRIVER HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE TO DECELERATE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK
MY 2001 IMPALA BEGAN HAVING LOSS OF POWER/SLIPPING DURING ACCELERATION AT LOW SPEEDS AROUND 30,000 MILES, DEALER LOOKED AT CAR AND COULD NOT DUPLICAT 2 TIMES. CAR SCONTIUED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM AND DEALER FELT THAT THE VALVE BODY SHOULD BE REPLACED AND TOE SET. AT 37,400 MILES I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND SUDDENLY LOSS OPERATION OF VEHICLE WHIL GOING THROUGH INTERSECTION, COASTED INTO GAS STATION TRIED ALL GEARS OF CAR AND WAS UNABLE TO MOVE CAR FORWARD OR REVERSE. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. TRANSMISSION REPAIR OF PLANETARIES AND BANDS WAS PERFORMED THAT WAS AUGUST 25, 2003. ON SEPTEMBER 10 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD IT DIAGNOSED AT INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT 2 TRANSMISSION CODES WERE COMING UP THEY WERE 742 AND 748. GM EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD NOT ALLOW REPAIR TO BE DONE BY ANY ONE ELSE BUT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP ON OCTOBER 6 AND WAS TOLD ON THE 9TH THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I WILL BE PICKING UP MY CAR TOMORROW AND WAITING FOR THE NEXT TIME THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER.
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD LOST POWER, ALL OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE GONE. ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS FAILED ON THE DASHBOARD, BUT NO WHERE ELSE. HE WAS STILL ABLE TO ROLL THE ELECTRICAL WINDOWS UP AND DOWN, AND RADIO STILL CAME ON. ALSO, AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, INDICATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM. SOMETIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED AIR CONDITIONER DID NOT WORK. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. CONSUMER HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER/MECHANIC, AND WAS TOLD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.THIS HAPPENED TO RESET THE COMPUTER. BUT WHEN THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME , HE TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER/MECHANIC. THEY PUT VEHICLE ON THE COMPUTER, AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, BUT YET THEY CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH THEY SAID COULD BE BAD.*AK
TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN 2001 CHEVY IMPALA. ONLY 59K MILES, TRANSMISSION NEEDS REBUILD. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLITEN 00-07-30-002B JULY 2002 LISTS PROBLEMS THAT MY CAR DEVELOPED.*AK
VEHICLE VIBRATED AND SHOOK AT HIGH SPEED (ABOVE 50MPH) WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. SCRAPING NOISES WERE ALSO HEARD. DEALER WOULD ONLY LOOK AT BRAKES IF DIAGNOSTIC FEE WAS PAID. RESULT WAS THAT ROTORS WERE WARPED ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND PITTED AND SCORED ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS 18K FOR MILEAGE. BRAKE PADS ON BOTH FRONT AND REAR HAD 75% WEAR REMAINING. FRONT ROTORS WERE TURNED AND PADS REPLACED. REAR ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED.OEM DESIGN OF REAR PADS HAS A VERTICAL GROOVE IN THE MIDDLE WHICH COLLECTS DUST, DIRT AND DEBRI CONTRIBUTING TO THE WEAR ISSUE. REPLACEMENT PADS DO NOT.*AK
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT TWICE WITHIN THE FIRST 2 YEARS OF OWNING VEHICLE. STEERING WHEEL RATTLE DETECTED, FEELS LIKE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS. HANDLING IS NOT AFFECTED IMMEDIATELY, BUT POTENTIAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL IF THIS BREAKS. TECHNICIAN STATED THE GREASE DRIED OUT AND WOULD RECUR. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A POTENTIAL RECALL, BUT CHEVROLET HAS NOT RESPONDED WITH ONE AS OF THIS DATE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE DRIVER DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOTICED THAT BRAKE POWER WAS LOST AFTER THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AND THAT IT WAS VIBRATING. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE AIR INTAKE HAD WORN THROUGH THE COMPUTER SENSOR ON THE HARNESS AND CAUSED A LOSS OF VACUUM TO THE POWER BRAKES, AND LOSS ALL POWER TO ASSIST. *AK *CB *NLM
CAR WON'T MOVE AT TIMES.REMOVED TRANSMISSION, INSPECTED INTERNAL PARTS ALL OKAY EXCEPT VALVE BODY REPLACED, STICKING VALVE BODY AND GASKETS. *AK
TRANSMISSION DIED TODAY. COASTED INTO A PARKING SPOT. 6-30-03 CAR WAS IN FOR THIRD 'LOW COOLANT' LIGHT. A COSTLY CORRECTION WAS MADE BY THE DEALER. PREVIOUSLY IN 4-03 AND 8-02, INSTALLED NEW SENSOR BOTH TIMES.
THE CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING, THE BRAKE ROTORS WOE OUT AND CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THERE WAS A PULSATION WHEN THE BAKES WERE APPLIED. *SCC *JB
DT: 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. AT 6,500 MILES THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE BRAKES GRINDING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON JULY 7, 2003, AND SHE WAS TOLD IT WAS A NORMAL METALLIC PAD NOISE, AND THERE WAS NO CORRECTION NECESSARY. THERE HAVE BEEN NO CORRECTIONS TO THIS VEHICLE AT ALL. THE CONSUMER'S SON RECENTLY DROVE THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE PROBLEM HIMSELF. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL WOBBLED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED CHEVROLET, AND THEY RECOMMEND THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP.*AK
THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED WHICH CAUSED VIBRATION WHILE BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WASN'T USED ENOUGH. THE DEALER REFACED BOTH BRAKE ROTORS. *AK *CB *NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED TRANSMISSION JERKED. DEALER INSPECTED AND STATED THE WAS THE CODE-PO742. CONSUMER STATED THIS VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER ON WARRANTY.*AK

FRONT COLLISION WITH A TREE. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. DRIVERS FRONT FENDER DENTED. BUMPER PARTIALLY TORN OFF AND HEADLIGHTS FELL OUT. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER. *AK. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS. ALSO THE DASH LIGHTS FLICKERED. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION AREA, HOWEVER THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE FELT IN THE STEERING COLUMN, THE DEALER STATED THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *TS *JB
1. CRANK SENSOT FAILED AND RAN HAZARD LIGHTS ON SIDE OF INNERSTATE FOR 3 HOURS WHILE GM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SENT TOW SERVICE. 2. TURN SIGNALS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY AND OPERATION OF HAZARD SWITCH WOULD BE RESTORE THEM TEMPORIALLY. 3. REPLACED HAZARD SIGNAL SWITCH AND THE OLD PART IS AVAILABLE. *TR

LOOSE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT TRANSMITS DISTURBING NOISES AND VIBRATIONS TO THE DRIVER VIA THE STEERING WHEEL . DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR. *NLM

WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THERE WAS NOISE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE NOISE WAS DUE TO RUST BUILD UP ON THE ROTORS. *JB
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING ONTO HIGHWAY FROM LIGHT. TRANSMISSION DID NOT RESPOND TO GAS PEDAL APPLICATION. ONE OTHER VEHICLES ALMOST COLLIDED WITH MY VEHICLE FROM BEHIND. *NLM

REAR OF CAR CAUGHT FIRE. OCCURRED IN MY EMPLOYER'S PARKING LOT AT 2121 HUDSON AVENUE, KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN. THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT AREA. VEHICLE PARKED & UNOCCUPIED. *NLM
CHRONIC COOLANT LEAK ON 2001 IMPALA LS. DEALER REPLACED MANIFOLD UNDER WARRANTY. ALSO IN FIRST 2 YEARS, WHEEL BEARING, INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT, AS WELL AS ROOF MOLDING. *JB
MORNING OF MAY, ENTER CAR AND TRIED TO TURN KEY TO ON POSITION TO START, WITH NO LUCK. WIGGLE KEY IN LOCK SEVERAL TIMES TO FINALLY RELEASE KEY SO IT WOULD MOVE INTO STARTING MODE. THIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR PAIN, IT HAS GOTTEN BAD ENOUGH THAT KEY WILL JUST PULL OUT OF LOCK ASSEMBLY EVEN IN RUNNING MODE. GM HAS KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME,AND SHOULD APPLY A RECALL ON THIS ITEM EVEN AS FAR BACK AS MY 2001 IMPALA, WOULD HATE TO HAVE CAR SHUT OFF DURING DRIVING MODE OF JUST LEFT STRANDED FOR A STUPID IGNITION KEY ASSEMBLY PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 10 APRIL,2003, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER/ EXHAUST SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED, MY CAR DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 47,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS JUST BARELY 2 YEARS OLD???? THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER, THE PARTS WERE REPLACED, THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED, BUT.... THE VEHICLE STILL DOESN'T HAVE THE POWER THAT IT SHOULD HAVE AND THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING LIKE IT SHOULD, NOW I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT THAT IT SENT PIECES THOUGH THE LINES IN THE CAR, I DID ASK THE DEALER IF THIS WOULD BE CAUSE A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE OR THE TRANSMISSION AND THE RESPONSE WAS (IT SHOULDN'T) NOW THIS DOES SOUND LIKE A PROBLEM TO ME.... I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND GIVE ME A REAL ANSWER ON THIS PROBLEM...THE PROBLEM THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD IS KIND OF UNHEARD OF IN THE EARLY STAGE OF MILEAGE AND AGE.. THE DEALERSHIP WAS EVEN CONFUSED ON THE PROBLEM, ALL COMPUTERS THAT THE CAR WAS PLACED ON BY DIFFERENT SHOPS SHOULD NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR, UNTIL IT WAS PUT ON A FLAT BED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER.... I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME IN THIS MATTER.... *NLM

BLINKERS AND HAZARDS WOULD STOP WORKING AT TIMES.*AK
VEHICLE IS 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. AT 11,500 MILES, ENGINE BEGAN TO LOSE COOLANT. (NO VISIBLE LEAKS). DEALER SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED "THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM" AND THAT PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLDS ON GM V6 ENGINES ARE WARPING CAUSING COOLANT LOSS. DEALER "FIX" WAS TO INSTALL "GM PELLETS" TO SEAL COOLING SYSTEM. IF ENGINE STILL LOSES COOLANT, INTAKE MANIFOLD WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED (APPROX COST=$800). ACCORDING TO VARIOUS INTERNTET CHAT GROUPS, THIS PROBLEM EXISTS AMONG A WIDE RANGE OF GM MODELS WITH 3.4 AND 3.8 LITER ENGINES, YET THERE IS NO RECALL OR ANY WRITTEN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM GM THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS. THERE IS ALSO NO INDICATION THAT REPLACEMENT OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WILL CURE THE PROBLEM, AS THE REPLACEMENT PART IS IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL.
MY CAR MADE A WHINING NOISE WHILE MOVING AND MAKES A LOUD NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. I TOOK IT TO A CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY LET ME KNOW MY POWER STEERING RACK NEEDS REPLACING AT 68,000 MILES IN FEBRUARY 2004. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS IS NOT BEING RECALLED AND THIS IS SOMETHING A LOT OF CAR REPAIR CENTERS ARE SURPRISED THIS HAS FAILED ON A 3 YEAR OLD CAR. CHEVROLET WANTS $1,000 TO REPLACE. *AK
TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT. METAL PIECES WERE FOUND IN FLUID. VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO THE PRESSURE MODULATOR IN TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. FELT LIKE YOU WERE DRIVING AND SHIFTING WITHOUT A CLUTCH IF THE CAR WAS A STICK SHIFT. PRIOR TO THAT, THE COMPUTER MODULE WENT OUT, CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN OVER NIGHT AND HAVING TO JUMP START IT. BEFORE THAT, THE AUTOMATIC TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WENT OUT. FOUND OUT IT WAS A FAULTY SENSOR IN THE BACK BRAKE AREA. BEFORE THAT, THE FRONT ROTORS WERE SEVERELY WRAPPED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *JB
