WIPER BLADES REMAIN IN AN UPWARD POSITION WHILE DRIVING; THIS OCCURRENCE CAUSES VISIBILITY ISSUES DURING HARSH WEATHER CONDITIONS, WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS VERY FREQUENTLY, AND I HAVE TO STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO MANUALLY PUSH THE BLADES DOWN WITH MY HANDS.
MY 2001 IMPALA THAT IS IN MINT CONDITION AND HAS LESS THAT 100K ON THE MILEAGE JUST CAUGHT FIRE ON THE TOP OF THE MOTOR. I HEARD A LOUD BOOM THEN SEEN THE FIRE. I RAN TO MY GARAGE AND PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH AN EXTINGUISHER. THIS MELTED THE VALVE COVER, SOME OF THE INJECTORS WIRES THE PLASTIC INTAKE AND DAMAGED THE BEAUTY COVER.. I AM NOW OUT OF A VEHICLE. I POSTED THIS ONLINE TO GET SOME IDEAS OF WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT DO I SEE, AN OPEN RECALL FROM GENERAL MOTORS FOR THE SPECIFIC ISSUE. WHAT ARE MY STEPS TO GET THIS FIXED? I CONTACTED DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS HOWEVER THEY ARE GIVING ME A RUN AROUND. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE THE VICTIM OF POOR DESIGN DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS NOR SHOULD I HAVE TO BE OUT OF A VEHICLE CONSIDERING I TAKE GREAT CARE OF MY VEHICLES. PLEASE ASSIST
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. WHEN THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD, THE MANIFOLD COVER EXPLODED AND BURNED HIS FACE. THE CONTACT USED HIS SHIRT TO DOUSE THE FIRE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR REPAIR. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). WHEN THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD ONLY COVER THE PARTS THAT WERE IN THE RECALL, EXCLUDING THE COST OF TOWING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,000.
KEY TURNS IN IGNITION BUT CAR WILL NOT CRANK.SOMETIMES WAIT 10 MINUTES AND IT WILL START SOME TIMES IT WON'T.SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING.

WHILE STARTING 2001 IMPALA 3.8 INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLODED CAUSING FIRE. HAVE READ OF MANY OTHER CASES ONLINE SINCE THIS HAPPENED THIS MORNING. 1/7/2016..IF CAR HAD BEEN IN GARAGE IT COULD HAVE BEEN REALLY BAD...THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FROM GM....

THE IGNITION KEEPS LOCKING OUT THE CARS ABILITY TO START. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND WHEN THE KEY IS ROTATED TO THE START POSITION NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. UPON WAITING FOR 10 TO 20 MINUTES THIS VEHICLE WILL THEN RESTART. WHEN TAKEN TO THE GARAGE TO HAVE MAINTENANCE DONE THIS VEHICLE NEVER FAILED FOR THEM ON TWENTY TIMES OF STARTING IN A ROW. TOOK THE CAR HOME AND IT SAT AND NOW IT FAILED AGAIN. MY DAUGHTER IS ABOUT TO BE DISMISSED FROM HER CURRENT JOB BECAUSE OF THIS CONSTANT FAILURE TO START. LATELY, THE TIME HAS GROWN. MY DAUGHTER TOOK A VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT AND HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO JUMP IT TO START IT AND WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT IT THEY STATED IT TOOK THEM 10 TO 15 MINUTES TO GATHER ALL THE EQUIPMENT TO GET IT TO START. THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE RESOLVED ITSELF IN THAT TIME. THIS IS NOW BECOMING LIFE THREATING AS THE VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC AND AN ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN. NO CODES ARE SHOWING FOR THIS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS NOW AND GETTING WORSE. IN MY OPINION IT IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE IGNITION OR SECURITY SYSTEM. I HOPE NOTHING SERIOUS HAPPENS WHILE MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING. THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE SHE HAS FOR TRANSPORTATION. I AM SUBMITTING THIS ON HER BEHALF.

ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS I'VE BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WHEN I GO FROM BRIGHT TO DIM MY HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF. THEY COME BACK ON SHORTLY AFTER, IT'S ONLY MY HEADLIGHTS AS I CAN SEE MY SIDE LAMPS ILLUMINATED. QUICKLY GOING BACK TO BRIGHT SEEMED TO BRING THEM ON QUICKER THE SECOND TIME THEY WENT OUT. THESE TWO ISSUES BOTH OCCURRED AS I WAS MEETING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND WENT FROM BRIGHT TO DIM. THEY OCCURRED OVER THE TIME PERIOD OF TWO MONTHS.

WHILE DRIVING, THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 184,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OR DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE KEY COULD BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. IN ADDITION, AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND REMOVING THE KEY, THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE COMPUTER IN THE VEHICLE MADE A "HUMMING NOISE" WHEN THE IGNITION KEY WAS REMOVED AND WAS STILL ACTIVELY CONSUMING POWER IN THE VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, REPLACED THE BATTERY, THE ALTERNATOR, AND THE STARTER; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES PERSISTED. THE DEALER (F.H. DAILEY CHEVROLET, 800 DAVIS ST, SAN LEANDRO, CA 94577, (510) 394-3783) WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) IN 2014. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
AS ANY SERIOUS CAR OWNER, I TRIED TO ADDRESS THE CHEAPER ITEMS SUCH AS BATTERY REPLACEMENT AND SPARK PLUGS, ALL HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. SLOWLY ALL THE ELECTRICAL APPLICATIONS IN MY CAR BEGAN TO STOP WORKING FROM THE BLINKERS, RADIO, HAZARDS, CRUISE CONTROL, CAR WINDOWS, AND FINALLY THE CAR STOPPED STARTING. I WAS TOO BROKE TO ADDRESS IT THEN, SO EVERY EARLY MORNING MY CAR WOULD REQUIRE A NICE JUMP START TO BEGIN THE DAY. THIS IMPALA WOULD NOT START SO OFTEN THAT I PURCHASED A PORTABLE BATTERY TO JUMP IT EVERYWHERE, EVEN AS SIMPLE AS THE GAS STATION. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE PARASITIC DRAIN (DRAIN ON THE CAR BATTERY) WAS COMING FROM THE DASH CLUSTER/INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH WAS IN LINE WITH THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE DISCOVERED ON GOOGLE THAT THE BCM WAS CAUSING NON-STARTER ISSUES FOR OTHER IMPALAS. HOWEVER, ONCE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS REPLACED MY RADIO WAS STILL NOT WORKING AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR BECAME A NON-STARTER AGAIN; THEREFORE, I SUSPECTED THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE STILL HAND NOT BEEN DISCOVERED. I EXPLAINED THIS TO MR. MCGHEE, THE OWNER OF MCGHEES AUTO SHOP, HE DID A THOROUGH JOB OF COMBING ALL THE INTRICATE WIRES TO DETERMINE FINALLY AN INTERMITTENT DRAW OCCURRING FROM THE AMPLIFIER IN THE TRUNK OF THE CAR. THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, FIXING THE AMPLIFIER, COST A GRAND TOTAL OF 220$ TO HAVE THE ACTUAL PART FIXED; I DID NOT WANT TO RISK PLACING A NON-STOCK AMPLIFIER, MY SPECIFIC AMPLIFIER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, IN THE CAR. HOWEVER, I LIKE OTHER CONSUMERS CONTINUALLY PAID TO REPLACE PARTS THAT FAILED AS IT WAS NOT OBVIOUS THERE WAS AN UNDERLYING MALFUNCTIONING IN A PARTICULAR APPLICATION THAT MADE THE ESSENTIAL PRODUCT USELESS.

TURN IGNITION TO START ALL DASH LIGHTS AND POWER TURNS ON. NO CRANK NO START WAIT ABOUT TEN MIN TRY IT AGAIN THE CAR STARTS PERFECT.
MY CAR WAS RECENTLY SERVICED FOR THE RECALL ISSUE ON THE IGNITION, WHICH I HAD THE ISSUE OF THE CAR TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THEY FIXED IT, ANYWAYS WHILE DRIVING HOME YESTERDAY (05/21/2016) MY CAR AGAIN SHUT OFF THIS WAS AFTER I TOOK IT TO A CHEVOLET DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED. LUCKLY NO ONE WAS INJURED AS I DID CAUSE A BIT OF PANIC ON THE ROAD AS I WAS TRYING TO GAIN ENOUGH CONTROL TO PULL MY CAR OFF THE ROAD.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND NOTIFIED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD SOON BE RECEIVING A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE IGNITION RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON MY 01 IMPALA 3.4 RECENTLY. THIS RECALL WAS MEANT TO FIX THE ISSUE OF THE CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE KEY MOVING OUT OF THE RUN POSITION TO THE OFF POSITION. HOWEVER, THIS HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS WITH CONCERNS ABOUT THE CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THE CAR IS RUNNING PERFECT EXCEPT FOR THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE IS DUE TO THE IGNITION RECALL. I HAVE READ THE REPORTS CONCERNING THIS RECALL AND UNDERSTAND THAT THE SOLUTION IS TO MODIFY THE KEY BUT I WOULD LOOK INTO OTHER OPTIONS SINCE THIS HAS NOT FIXED THIS ISSUE. THEIR IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE WRONG WITH THE CAR ACCORDING TO 4 REPAIR SHOPS AND 4 DIAGNOSTIC SCANS THAT HAVE BEEN RAN ON THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF, IT WILL RESTART WITHOUT ANY ISSUES BUT THIS IS BECOMING DANGEROUS FOR MY CHILDREN AND I TO BE DRIVING IN. THEIR IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING ON WHEN THIS WILL OCCUR SO I HAVE NO WAY TO PREPARE FOR THIS ISSUE. I JUST WANTED TO BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION SO YOU MAY LOOK INTO THIS RECALL ONCE AGAIN. WELL I TOOK THE CAR IN T 10AM FOR YEMMS TO PUT THE CHIP IN THE KEY AND THE CAR STILL DOESN'T START. SO I TOOK THE KEY TO GET ANOTHER ONE MADE TESTED AND THERE WAS NO CHIP FOUND IN THE KEY. SO NOW WHAT THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE SO I CAN'T TAKE IT TO YEMMS.

CAR CAUGHT FIRE AFTER SHORT DRIVE. SINCE GM PERFORMED SAFETY RECALL # 14350 ON OUR KEYS WE'VE HAD MORE ISSUES WITH OUR 2001 IMPALA NOT STARTING WHICH HAS RENDERED IT UNABLE TO BE STARTED CURRENTLY. THIS IS MY SECOND TIME POSTING SINCE I ORIGINALLY POSTED ON 10/24/14 REGARDING THE CAR CUTTING OUT WHILE DRIVING. SINCE THAT TIME WE'VE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY NOT STARTING OR FAILING TO RESTART AFTER DRIVING IT A SHORT DISTANCE, LIKE GOING TO THE STORE. A FEW WEEKS AGO WE HAD TO SPEND $140 ON A NEW BATTERY AFTER THE MECHANICS TOLD US THAT WAS THE STARTING PROBLEM. TWO DAYS LATER IT ONCE AGAIN WOULDN'T RESTART AFTER STOPPING AT THE STORE FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE MECHANIC CAME AND CHECKED THE CAR AND TIGHTENED THE BATTERY TERMINAL CONNECTIONS THINKING THAT WAS THE ISSUE. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE CAR WOULDN'T RESTART ONCE AGAIN AFTER A SHORT VISIT TO THE STORE. THAT TIME A TOW TRUCK DRIVER TRIED TO JUMP IT BUT IT WOULDN'T START, SO IT WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC. ONCE AT THE MECHANICS THE MECHANIC TRIED TO START IT AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. HE KEPT IT FOR TWO DAYS AND TRIED STARTING IT NUMEROUS TIMES AND EVERY TIME IT STARTED. SINCE BRINGING IT BACK HOME WE'VE HAD PROBLEMS ONCE AGAIN WITH IT NOT STARTING EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING SEEMS FINE AND THE BATTERY TERMINALS ARE TIGHT. TODAY THE KEY FOB WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR REMOTELY NOR WOULD THE CAR START. I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THESE ISSUES AND SEE WHERE IN MANY INSTANCES PEOPLE HAVE FOUND THE IGNITION/KEY FOB ISSUES ARE RELATED TO THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM KEEPING THE CAR FROM STARTING OR CANCELING THE ENGINE WHILE RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSIS OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS LOOSE AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED OR TIGHTENED. WE'VE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS INCLUDING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL ISSUES, ENGINE CUTTING OUT, ENGINE LURCHING, AND DIFFICULTY STARTING. TWO PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS TIMES WERE ESPECIALLY SCARY -- ONE TIME THE ENGINE CUT OUT, WITHOUT WARNING, WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, ON A FOUR LANE ROAD, WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THE OTHER TIME WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL IN A SNOW STORM AT NIGHT. THE ROADS WERE SLIPPERY AND I LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING THE LIGHTS AND POWER STEERING. WE'VE SPENT AT LEAST $2000 FOR DIAGNOSTICS/REPAIRS FOR FUEL SYSTEM CHECKS, ELECTRICAL CHECKS, NEW IGNITION, NEW IGNITION WIRES, NEW A/C COMPRESSOR (A/C WOULDN'T COOL), AND ONE FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED. FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IT DIDN'T CUT OUT BUT THE ENGINE WOULD STILL LURCH ONCE IN AWHILE. FOUR DAYS AGO MY HUSBAND TOOK IT IN FOR THE KEY RECALL AND THE DEALER SAID THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED CLEANING SO WE HAD IT DONE. THE CAR RAN FANTASTIC... UNTIL TODAY WHEN OUT OF THE BLUE, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 30MPH, THE ENGINE CUT OUT AFTER GOING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. WE CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID TO KEEP A JOURNAL OF WHEN THE ISSUE HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
