TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR SEVEN MINUTES, THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V136000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. THE REPRESENTATIVE ADDED THAT BECAUSE THE CONTACT DID NOT PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, SHE WOULD ONLY BE REIMBURSED $2,000 FOR ACCRUED VEHICLE DAMAGE. THE CONTACT HAS NOT YET RECEIVED ANY ASSISTANCE. SHE HAS ACCESS TO OBTAINING SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
DROVE CAR TO WORK, PARKED 3 MIN LATER CUSTOMER COMES TO MY JOB SCREAMING TO CALL 911 BECAUSE A CAR IS ON FIRE, I CAME OUT AND WAS MINE. AFTER THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT THE FIRE OUR, THEY SUSPECTED THAT A FUEL LINE WAS LICKING, I WENT TO A WEBSITE TO FIND 2 RECALLS ON MY CAR THAT I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF, THIS ONE WAS BACK IN 2001, AND I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A CHEVY DEALER ON 2002, AND WAS SERVICE BY THEM SEVERAL TIMES. NOW CHEVROLET ONLY WANTS TO PAY $2,000.00, BECAUSE I DID NOT BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AS REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA, I CONTACTED THE GENERAL STATE ATTORNEY FOR THE STATE AND HIS OFFICE SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT TRUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. ON MOST OCCASIONS, HE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FIFTEEN MINUTES FOR THE VEHICLE TO CRANK. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES OR ERROR CODES WITH THE VEHICLE. DURING THE FAILURE, THE ENGINE FAILS TO START, BUT ALL THE OTHER COMPONENTS WORK NORMALLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY IMPALA AND WHEN YOU GO TO START THE CAR IT WON'T START. IT DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME, BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS IT TAKES NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS WITH THE KEY TO GET IT STARTED. *TR

PASSLOCK SYSTEM IN CHEVY IMPALA PREVENTS CAR FROM STARTING INTERMITTENTLY. DEPENDING ON CIRCUMSTANCES, LOCATION, AND PERSONS ON BOARD, THIS COULD LEAD TO ILLNESS OR INJURY. *TR
MY CAR RANDOMLY DOESN'T LIKE TO START. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN MANY PLACES BECAUSE OF IT. I DO NOT THINK IT IS FAIR TO ME TO HAVE TO BE LATE TO WORK JUST BECAUSE MY CAR DOESN'T FEEL LIKE STARTING FOR 10 MINUTES. SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM/ABS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I NOTICED THE TRACTION FEATURE ENGAGING WITHOUT CAUSE. IT BEGAN TO GET WORSE AND ENGAGES MOSTLY WHEN YOU TURN (EITHER DIRECTION), BUT HAPPENS VERY OFTEN. TOOK TO DEALER WAS TOLD IT NEEDED NEW WHEEL BEARINGS, HAD BOTH REPLACED (WHICH WAS VERY PRICEY) AND IT WAS OKAY FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS AND HAS SINCE STARTED AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, WHEN THE TRACTION IS ENGAGED IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP WHEN BRAKING, IT CAUSES A DELAY IN STOPPING. I'VE ASKED OTHER MECHANICS, NOBODY IS SURE WHAT TO DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT ALL HAVE HEARD SEVERAL OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM IN HOPES OF FINDING A SOLUTION, TO NO AVAIL, BUT THERE ARE 1000'S OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE 2001 IMPALA. I WAS PASSING ANOTHER CAR, MY CAR BACKFIRED, I THEN LOST POWER. RETURNING HOME AT A VERY SLOW SPEED. I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL, THE EXHAUST WAS RED HOT. THE PROBLEM WAS A BURN HOLE IN THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD WHICH MELTED SOME ELECTRICAL WIRING. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING A RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SENSOR PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 CHEVY IMPALA. I HAVE HAD THIS REPLACED 3 TIMES AND THEY HAVE LASTED LESS THAN A MONTH EACH TIME. THE CHEVROLET COMPANY HAS HAD NO RECALL TO FINALLY SOLVE THE REASON THAT IT CONTINUES TO GO OUT. THE PROBLEM AFFECTS MY BRAKES AND I HAVE HAD CLOSE CALLS WHERE MY BRAKES GRIND AND DON'T WANT TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHEN I NEED IT TO. 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA ABS / TRACTION CONTROL PROBLEM ENGAGES BRAKES INTERMITTENTLY AND SPONTANEOUSLY WITHOUT WARNING. EXCESS HEAT BUILDS UP AND CAUSES BRAKE FLUID LOSS. POTENTIAL FOR BRAKE FAILURE EXISTS. PERHAPS THE GOVERNMENT COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. YEAH, RIGHT. I PREDICT THAT YOU GUYS WILL FAIL THE CONSUMER YET AGAIN. *TR
2001 CHEVORLET/IMPALA PURCHASED NEW, CURRENT MILES 51,000. INTERMITTANT LOSS OF DIRECTIONALS. **NOW COMPLETE LOSS OF DIRECTIONALS AND EMERGENCY SIGNALS. FAILED RECENT CAR INSPECTION. ADDITIONAL FAILURES INCLUDE: COMPLETE BRAKE LOSS AT 38,000. RESULTING IN REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM. FIRESTONE TIRE, WEST ROXBURY, MA STATED ON DOCUMENTS THAT "ROTORS WERE THINNED DOWN TO SIZE OF SHEET OF PAPER &/OR COMPLETELY GONE." TWO TIRE BLOWOUTS AT 35,000, ALSO REPLACED BY ABOVE REPAIR SHOP, WITH 4 NEW TIRES. BATTERY LEAK WITH CORROSION TO EXTENT OF NEED OF CONNECTION CABLES TO BE REBUILT FOR ATTACHMENT. BATTERY REPLACED WITH NEW CONNECTIONS AT 40,000 BY SEARS AUTO BODY IN DEDHAM, MA. PASSENGAR SIDE WIPER FIXED AND REPLACED AFTER FAILURE. WORKED FOR 3 MONTHS AND HAS FAILED AGAIN, HAS NOT AT PRESENT BEEN REPLACED/REPAIRED. CARE OF CAR WAS UPDATED AND MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO ALL REQUIREMENTS/RECOMMENDATIONS BY MANUFACTURER. NO HISTORY OF ACCIDENTS. THIS INCLUDING, OIL CHANGES, WIPER BLADE CHANGES, TIRE ROTATIONS WITH EVEY OTHER OIL CHANGE, WHICH WAS DONE EVERY 3 MONTS, ETC. BRAKE INSPECTION AND PADS CHANGED ON CAR 1 YEAR BEFORE COMPLETE FAILURE. BRAKE LOSS WAS THANKFULLY UNEVENTFUL ONLY DUE TO TIME OF NIGHT AND LOW TRAFFIC, ONLY ABLE TO STOP CAR WITH GLIDING TO STOP. THEN TOWED TO SERVICE STATION. ON AVERAGE MY PRESENT YEARLY MILAGE IS PROBABLY LESS THAN 3000. I AM THE ONLY DRIVER/OPERATOR TO THIS CAR AND ALTHOGH MENTIONED #1 OWNER, MY FATHER ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR, (HOWARD CHEVORLET, WEST ROXBURY, MA) BUT DID NOT DRIVE IT. 2001 CHEVY IMPALA SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON FOR A WEEK CAR SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING, WON'T START, ONLY AFTER 30 MINUTES IT WILL START,INSTALLING A NEW PASSLOCK IGNITION SWITCH COST OF OVER 500.00 WITH TOW AND DIAGNOSTICS, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, OR COVERED BY GM. THE TURN SIGNALS AND BRAKE LIGHTS QUIT WORKING IN MY 2001 CHEVY IMPALA. AFTER SEARCHING ON LINE TO SEE HOW TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM I AM FINDING THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS HAVING OR HAS HAD THIS ISSUE HAPPEN TO THEM. FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS, MY 2001 CHEVY IMPALA HAS BEEN VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE IGNITION TO START. IT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. I HAVE TO KEEP TURNING THE WHEEL AS I TURN THE IGNITION TO GET IT TO START. I AM THINKING THAT ONE DAY I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TURN IT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. *TR
I BEGAN HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IN MY 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA IN MID 2008, WHICH CONTINUED TO GET WORSE UNTIL AROUND LATE 2009 WHEN THE CAR WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. THESE PROBLEMS CONSISTED OF HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING ON AND OFF RANDOMLY, INTERMITTENT TURN SIGNAL FAILURE, AND A VARIETY OF OTHER ELECTRICAL RELATED ISSUES. DOING MINIMAL RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT MANY CONSUMERS HAVE OR ARE SUFFERING FROM THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS, AND IT APPEARS THAT THE MAJORITY OF THESE CLAIMS ARE (TEMPORARILY?) SOLVED BY REPLACING THE BODY CONTROL MODULE IN THESE VEHICLES. AFTER REPLACING MY BODY CONTROL MODULE AT THE DEALER ($600), THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF THE REPAIR. I PRESUME IT IS ALSO RELATED TO A FAULTY BODY CONTROL MODULE SINCE THAT IS WHAT MANY VOICES ON THE INTERNET SAY TO CHECK. I CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND ASKED ABOUT ANOTHER REPLACEMENT, AND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST 170$ JUST TO LOOK AT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS INSTEAD RELATED TO AN AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE (MORE ELECTRICAL). THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MY FAMILY SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW, AND HAS EXPERIENCED A VARIETY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, MOST OF WHICH WENT AWAY AFTER REPLACING THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. AFTER REPLACING THE BCM, SOME HAVE COME BACK ALREADY. PLEASE PUT A STOP TO THIS! IT IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT NIGHT AND HAVE MY HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY STOP WORKING OR TURN SIGNALS THAT ARE UNRELIABLE AT BEST OR AN AIRBAG THAT FAILS TO LAUNCH DURING AN ACCIDENT. THE SYMPTOMS SEEM TO GET WORSE THE OLDER THE BODY CONTROL MODULE, AND I CAN SEE IT HAPPENING ALL OVER AGAIN NOW THAT MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AFTER REPLACING MY BODY CONTROL MODULE.
CAR THINKS IT IS BEING STOLEN, AND IT WILL NOT CRANK WITH ORIGINAL KEYS. APPEARS TO BE A SECURITY ISSUE. MUST WAIT AT LEAST 10 MINUTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CRANK AGAIN. IT WILL NOT CRANK (MOTOR WILL NOT TURN OVER TO CRANK) FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES AFTER ATTEMPTING TO CRANK. NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN KEY IS TURNED TO CRANK/ON POSITION. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW, AND I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY GM. PLEASE HELP THE CONSUMER/CAR OWNER WITH THIS VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. THANK YOU. *TR
2001 IMPALA SOMETIMES WON'T START. HAD CAR THREE YEARS. REPLACED IGNITION CYLINDER ONCE ALREADY. WHEN THIS HAPPENS YOU TURN THE KEY CLOCKWISE AND WAIT 10 MINUTES THEN TURN OFF AND TRY AGAIN. USUALLY AFTER 10 MINUTES IT WILL START, BUT SOMETIMES HAVE TO GO TO ROUND 2 OR 3 AND ONCE THROUGH ROUND 7. THAT'S RIGHT AN HOUR AND A HALF! OCCURS ABOUT 4-5 TIMES A MONTH I'D GUESS. NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HAVE TO ENDURE ALONE AND 19 AND LATE AT NIGHT AND MY DAUGHTER. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHETHER GM WANTS TO ADMIT IT OR NOT. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE AT A RED LIGHT, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH AND IT FAILED TO OPERATE. HE BELIEVED THAT THE BULBS OR THE FUSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THEY WERE OPERABLE. THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH WOULD NOT OPERATE UNLESS THE CONTACT TURNED THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH ON AND OFF. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,100.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. BEFORE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS AND HEARD A NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES. SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE NOISE PERSISTED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FIVE MONTHS LATER AND THEY STATED THAT THE STEERING AND WHEEL BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,600.
HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF FOR SEVERAL SECONDS,AT NIGHT, AND CAME BACK ON WORKING THE DIMMER LEVEL. THANK GOD WE WERE NOT IN HEAVY INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. NO MANUFACTURE SHOULD BE ALLOW DESIGN HEADLIGHT CIRCUITS THAT CAN MALFUNCTION THROUGH FAULTY SWITCHES. WHY WERE THE ALLOWED TO DEFER FROM THE OLD WAY GOING STRAIGHT FROM BATTERY? MY REPAIR SOURCE INDICATES THIS IS NOT AN NEW PROBLEM . I UNDERSTAND THERE COULD BE PROBLEMS WITH THE WIRING PLUGS OVERHEATING ,SINCE THERE IS A "JUMPER "SUPPLIED WITH REPLACEMENT. FIVE DAY ORDER REPLACEMENT .ORIGINAL OWNER *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA LX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SECURITY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED HIM TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON, LIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF (ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT) CLICKING NOISE, RADIO LOCKS, BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON, AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON. CLICKING NOISE HAPPENS WHETHER THE CAR IS ON OR NOT. CANNOT UNLOCK OR LOCK CAR WITH THE REPORT. I'VE SEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE BLOGS ABOUT THIS. THERE IS A BULLETIN FROM GM #04-08-47-003 SO OBVIOUSLY THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THIS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
TURN SIGNAL ON 2001 CHEVY IMPALA WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. EXPENSIVE REPAIR. BLOG SITES HAVE MANY ENTRIES COMPLAINING OF THE SAME THING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF MY TURN SIGNALS WORK ON AND OFF.

2001 CHEVY IMPALA STEERING COLUMN HAS "KLUNK" SOUND. *TR
AFTER A HEAVY SNOW, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY 2001 CHEVY IMPALA RETURN TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION WHEN OFF. THE WIPERS WILL NOT STOP IN THE DOWN POSITION. AFTER READING A NUMBER OF OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED DEFECT. *TR
SECURITY PASSLOCK SYSTEM KEEPS CAR FROM STARTING AT RANDOM TIMES. SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT SOMEONE CAN GET STRANDED ON A SUB-ZERO COLD NIGHT OR CAN BE IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND NOT BE ABLE TO START THE IMPALA. CAR WILL WORK FINE FOR MONTHS AT A TIME, THEN RANDOMLY WILL NOT START. AFTER 15 MINUTES OR SO, THE CAR WILL THEN START... SOMETIMES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT'S FRONT END BUMPER SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
2001 IMPALA WON'T START AT DIFFERENT TIMES HAVE TO WAIT 20-30 MINUTES, DOOR LOCKS DON'T WORK ANYMORE, INSIDE LIGHTS DON'T WON'T WHEN THIS HAPPENS THEY COME ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES, WHEN SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES THE AC DOESN'T WORK. I HAD THE IGNITION LOCK CHANGED BUT STILL SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AT NIGHT SINCE I AM A SINGLE PARENT WITH GRANDCHILDREN AND ALSO IN THE HEAT OF SUMMER HAVING TO WAIT FOR THE CAR TO START. *TR

THE TURN SIGNALS/ HAZARD WARNING FLASHERS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED WHEN THEY ARE NOT WORKING. THIS IS ONLY ON THE SIDE THAT THE TURN SIGNAL IS TURNED TO AND THIS ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT WORKING. THEY SEEM TO WORK BETTER WHEN IT IS COOL AND THEY SEEM TO FAIL MORE OFTEN WHEN IT IS WARM OR HOT. FREQUENTLY THE TURN SIGNALS SEEM TO WORK EARLY IN THE DAY AND THEY QUIT AS THE DAY GETS WARMER. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY OTHER CORRELATION TO WHEN THEY WORK. SOME MORNINGS THEY DO NOT WORK AND THEN AFTER I PARK THEY MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT WORK WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED. WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS WORK NORMALLY THERE IS NO PROBLEM. WHEN THEY DO NOT WORK THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE SIDE THAT SHOULD BE SIGNALING QUITS WORKING WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS ARE ACTIVATED BUT NOT WORKING. WHEN THEY ARE NOT WORKING THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK CORRECTLY IF THE TURN SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED. *TR

2001 CHEVY IMPALA I WENT OUTSIDE TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD, IT HAD ENOUGH POWER TO POWER UP THE LIGHTS ETC. HOWEVER, IT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO START THE ENGINE. I THAN MOVED ANOTHER VEHICLE UP NEXT TO IT AND CONNECTED JUMPER CABLES. I WAITED FOR IT TO CHARGE AND TURNED THE KEY. WHEN I TURNED THE KEY OVER, THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD VIOLENTLY EXPLODED. I HAD A HUGE FIRE UNDER MY HOOD. THE EXPLOSION SHOT PARTS ACROSS MY YARD. I HAD TO USE THE WATER HOSE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT, THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 10 FEET FROM MY HOME. I LEFT IT ALONE AND CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP MECHANIC THE VERY NEXT DAY. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD RECENTLY HAD 2 OF THE SAME VEHICLES COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THAT IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR AND THE FACT THAT THE MANIFOLD IS MADE OF PLASTIC. THIS EXPLOSION COULD HAVE VERY WELL KILLED SOMEONE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE, AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON OVER 900,000 OF THESE VEHICLES, HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL LIST ACCORDING TO GENERAL MOTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!! *TR

WHEN THE CONTACT'S WIFE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BEFORE JUMPING THE DEAD BATTERY, THE FUEL SYSTEM BYPASSED THROUGH A REGULATOR AND CREATED AN EXPLOSION. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE, IT WAS NOT DESTROYED AND WAS CAPABLE OF BEING REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE PURCHASE DATE AND RECALL NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 131,000.
I BOUGHT 4 DOUGLAS TOURING TIRES FOR MY 2001 IMPALA ON11/03/05 ABOUT 13,000 MILES LATER MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE STARTED TO THUMP AND SHAKE. I HAD IT CHECKED. IT WAS A SEPERATED BELT. I HAD IT REPLACED AND THE TIRES ROTATED NEW ON THE BACK OLD ON THE FRONT A MONTH LATER THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE DID THE SAME THING. I HAD IT REPLACED, THIS TIME I WAS FORCED TO PAY A 54.00 PRO RATE. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WAREENTEE OF THE LIFE OF THE TIRE? NOW TODAY THE LEFT FRONT TIRE IS DOING THE SAME THING. I CAN'T AFFORED TO BUY ANOTHER ONE OR TWO AS THE CASE MAY BE...HELP*CN

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,200.
MY VEHICLE HAD LACK OF POWER ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. NEARLY REAR ENDED A COUPLE OF TIMES. TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, THOUGHT THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A CLOGGED CATALYTIC CONVERTER. MY CAR IS A 2001 CHEVY AT THE TIME MY MILEAGE WAS 66,624 . THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT IF I DIDN'T REPAIR IT, I COULD DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION AND OR ENGINE. I HAD THEM REPLACE IT A COST OF 745.31 LABOR & PARTS. AFTER THE REPAIR THE CAR WORKED FINE & HAPPY TO SAY IT STILL DOES. SENT ALL NECESSARY PAPERS TO GENERAL MOTORS FOR RE-IMBURSEMENT UNDER THE 80,000/8 YR EMISSIONS WARRANTY BUT MY CLAIM WAS DENIED! THE REASON WAS I DIDN'T TAKE IT TO A DEALER BUT I FELT IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ME & OTHERS. (CAT CONVERTER WAS BLOCKED/CLOGGED). *TR

THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM ON MY 2001 IMPALA IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND WILL CAUSE THE CAR NOT TO START FOR 10-20 MINUTES. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND ALWAYS AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE DAY, SO I HAVE BEEN STRANDED AT THE GYM, RESTAURANTS, GAS STATIONS, WORK, ETC. MOST OF THE TIME, THIS HAPPENS AT NIGHT AFTER I MAKE A STOP IN BETWEEN WORK AND COMING HOME. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR SINGLE WOMEN WHO ARE STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WAITING FOR 20 MINUTES FOR THEIR CAR TO START. *TR
AT AROUND 75,000 MILES, MY 2001 IMPALA BEGAN TO LOSE POWER,PARTICULARLY WHEN ACCELERATING. I TRIED FUEL SYSTEM CLEANERS, REPLACED FUEL FILTER, AIR FILTER, ETC. NO HELP. THEN ONE DAY A HOLE WAS BLOWN THROUGH MY INTAKE MANIFOLD. THAT'S RIGHT, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, BECAUSE I KNEW I COULDN'T AFFORD THE GM DEALERSHIP SHOP PRICE, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE EGR VALVE AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WERE TOTALLY STOPPED UP CONSEQUENTLY TRAPPING HOT ENGINE EXHAUST IN THE INTAKE AREA WITH NOWHERE TO GO. THE COST OF PARTS AND REPAIRS COST ME OVER $800. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS OVER THE YEARS AND NEVER HAD A CATALYTIC CONVERTER COMPLETELY STOP UP. ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR MODEL. I THINK GM SHOULD REIMBURSE FOR THIS EXPENSE. *TR

TOOK IT BACK TO WHERE HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE ANY DEFECTS OR FAILURES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY INFORMED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE CENTER FOR THE REPAIRS NEEDED. THEY INFORMED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE PROBLEM HE IS EXPERIENCING. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AFTER THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THEY INFORMED HIM THAT HE NEEDED THE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,425. NO ACCIDENTS YET, BUT VERY EASILY COULD'VE BEEN. CAR STALLS WITH NO WARNING AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T WANT TO START. CAR HAS STALLED 3 TIMES - IT HAPPENED TWICE SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING A STOPLIGHT, SO 20-35MPH AND THE THIRD TIME WAS GOING 55MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE TWO TIMES IT STALLED AT 20-35MPH IT STARTED UP RIGHT AWAY. AFTER IT STALLED AT 55MPH, IT TOOK 3-5 TRIES TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN TWO OTHER SEPARATE TIMES THAT THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO START. THIS HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING THE CAR A SHORT DISTANCE, ABOUT 5 MILES, TURNING IT OFF FOR 10-20 MINUTES AND THEN IT TOOK 3-5 TRIES TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN. THE SECURITY LIGHT DID NOT COME ON WHEN THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED. CAR DOES HAVE 126,000 MILES ON IT. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE IS NO CODE INDICATING WHAT THIS STALLING/NO START PROBLEM IS. THIS IS THE THIRD DAY THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS. THE CAR HAS DIED ONCE WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP, BUT IT STARTED UP RIGHT AWAY SO THEY COULDN'T DO THE TEST THEY WANTED TO DO. THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE SUCH A HUGE SAFETY-RELATED ISSUE WITH NO KNOWN CAUSE/CODE AND IT APPEARS FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS AND AUTOMOTIVE "CHAT ROOMS" I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE AND NO RESOLUTION. *TR
