MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE MARKET FOR A USED CAR. SHE FOUND A CAR ON THE WEBSITE FO CITY AUTO AUCTION OF CHICAGO, PRICED AT 1500.00. WE ARRIVED AT THE AUCTION AND INQUIRED ABOUT THEIR BIDDING PROCESS. I WAS TOLD TO READ AND SING THE BIDDERS PADDLE. WE INQUIRED ABOUT THE CAR LISTED ON THE WEBSITE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, BUT WE COULD BID ON ANOTHER LIKE CAR. WE BIDDED 2800.00 FOR A 2001 CHEVY IMPALA. I ASKED THE SALESMAN IF WE CAN SEE THE CAR FOR INSPECTION. HIS INSISTED I PUT A 600.00 DOWN PAYMENT TO HOLD THE CAR. I DID. WE WAITED 3 HOURS BEFORE THEY CALLED US INTO THE OFFICE. THEY PRESENTED US WITH A BILL OF SALE TOTALING 3858.00. I ASKED FOR AN EXPLANATION OF THE CHARGES, AND TO SEE THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHETHER THERE WERE ANY DEFECTS. THE OWNER BECAME IRATE AND TOLD ME, THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO EXPLAIN TO ME THE CHARGES, HE CALLED SECURITY AND I WAS ASKED TO LEAVE. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, MY DAUGHTER WENT BACK, I WAS TO MEET HER AT THE DEALERSHIP. SHE ASKED IF SHE COULD INSPECTED THE CAR. SHE WAS TOLD SHE HAD TO PAY THE REMAINING BALANCE FIRST. SHE DID. THE SERVICEMEN BROUGHT THE CAR OUT, LOCKED THE DOOR AND REFUSED TO ANSWER ANY OF HER QUESTIONS. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE CAR HAD NO RADIO, NO REAR VIEW MIRROR AND WAS KNOCKING. I HAD HER BRING THE CAR TO ME. THE CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PASS 50 MPH. SHE CONTINUED TO DRIVE, THE CAR THEN SLOWED TO 10 MPH. SHE EVENTUALLY GOT THE CAR TO MY OFFICE, WHERE IT DIED, AND WOULD NOT START. I CALLED CITY AUTO, TALKED TO MR. AL, WHO TOLD ME THE CAR WAS SOLD "AS IS" AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER LOCKS, FOG LIGHTS, AND POWER TRUNK RELEASE DO NOT WORK. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND LOW FUEL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH. THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2007. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. HER BROTHER BELIEVED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH CAUSED THE FAILURE. AS OF OCTOBER 18, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING: HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS: SWITCH (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V327000) FOR THE 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND THE CONTACT FELT THAT HER VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,000.

IGNITION -WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN JUNE 2007 AND WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS IN JULY 2007 WITH THE IGNITION .ITS LEFT MY FAMILY STRANDED ABOUT 20 + TIMES SENSE THEN. I LOOKED AT THE SERVICE BULLETINS AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS ON THERE. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE GEARS FAILED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED MOVING. NO WARNING INDICATORS WERE PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE AND TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS THE TRANSMISSION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 67,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. SINCE MARCH OF 2004, THE VEHICLE'S TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD LIGHTS FAIL TO WORK. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 116,000.
2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. *KB THE BLOWOUT FROM THE TIRE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE WAS CRACKED AND DRY ROTTED. THE TIRE WAS A UNIROYAL. OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT. *JB
ENGINE COOLANT LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OUT AFTER I HAD RADIATOR FLUSHED. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS SOME BROWN, MUDDY LOOKING, OILY SUBSTANCE LEAKING INTO THE RADIATOR AT WHICH TIME HE INFORMED ME OF THE PROBLEM THAT GM CARS WERE HAVING WITH THE MANIFOLD GASKETS. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BEFORE A DEATH DOES OCCUR DUE TO THIS NEGLIGENCE ON GM'S PART. I'M SURE THAT ALL THE OWNER OF THESE CARS FEEL THE SAME WAY AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE LIABLE AND ORDERED TO PAY TO HAVE THESE CARS REPAIRED, SINCE IT IS SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, WHICH THEY APPARENTLY KNEW WOULD HAPPEN AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN TO A CERTAIN MILEAGE. I ALSO HAD A PROBLEM ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO WHEN THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT. THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE GOT STUCK AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNLESS THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AND EVEN THEN THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV VERY HIGH! I WAS IN FEAR OF MY LIFE.... AND LUCKILY I MADE IT TO THE DEALER WITHOUT HAVING AN ACCIDENT. THESE IMPALAS ARE DEATH TRAPS AND I THINK THAT THERE HAVE BEEN DEATHS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN EXPLAINED DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I HAD WITH THE ACCELERATION MODULE. UNFORTUNATELY... DEAD PEOPLE CAN'T TELL WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR CARS BEFORE THEY LOST CONTROL OF THEM. *TR
2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA AIRBAG SENSOR FAILED REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. NHTSA HAS A RECALL FOR 580 SUCH VEHICLES UNDER NO 00V244000. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF A RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS 88,000 MILES, AND THE FAILURE OF THE SENSOR COULD RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT INJURIES IN EVENT OF A CRASH. *TR
THIS CAR HAS BEEN A ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL NIGHTMARE AND I'M FINDING MANY, MANY, REPORTS ON THE INTERNET OF OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM(S). 1) INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAKS CAUSING CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND EGR VALVE TO CLOG. THE RESULT OF THIS IS EXHAUST GASES CAN'T ESCAPE , BACKING UP AND BURNING/BLOWING A HOLE IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ITSELF. ALL ABOVE ITEMS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A VERY SUBSTANTIAL COST. 2) BLINKERS INTERMITTENTLY WORK. MOSTLY THEY DON'T WORK. THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE (FLASHER) MODULE LOCATED IN THE DASH BEHIND THE 'FLASHER" BUTTON. THIS IA VERY,VERY COMMON. 3) A/C HEATER BLOWER FAN STOPS WORKING ON SPEEDS 1,2 THEN 3 RESULTING. THIS IS DUE TO RESISTORS BURNING UP ON A MODULE MOUNTED BEHIND THE DASH AND IN FRONT OF THE BLOWER MOTOR. MY QUESTION HERE IS, AT WHAT POINT DOES SOMEONE HOLD THE MANUFACTURER RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE OBVIOUS FACTORY DEFECTS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GOOGLE ANY OF THE ABOVE COMPLAINTS AND SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED. HELP !!! *TR
I HAVE A COUPLE OF PROBLEM WITH THE 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED USED. AS FAR AS I KNOW USING CARFAX TO CHECK THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD LOGICALLY CAUSE THE PROBLEMS. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY OBVIOUS PREVIOUS DAMAGE. WHEN DRIVING THE TURN SIGNALS WILL WORK COMPLETELY AT RANDOM FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. I DID NOT GET A TRAFFIC TICKET OR HAD AN ACCIDENT. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT FIXED THIS PROBLEM. ALSO, THE CAR WILL NOT START ON OCCASION. NORMALLY, IF I WAITED 10 - 60 MINUTES AND TRIED IT AGAIN IT WILL EVENTUALLY START. VEHICLE LEFT ME STRANDED FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME. I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT IT WILL COST ABOUT $400 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ,AND THAT ONLY A CHEVROLET DEALER COULD DO IT. *AK
LOW COOLANT LIGHT LIT. ADDED DEXCOOL AS NEEDED. LIGHT THEN BEGAN TO COME ON AND GO OFF INTERMITTANTLY. TOOK TO DEALER. THEY TESTED AND SAID SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. REPLACED AND DEXCOOL ADDED. COST$225. I NOTICED SEVERAL SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON NHSTA. GM SHOULD COVER THIS COST OR HAVE A RECALL.
2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA..PASSLOCK SECURITY LOCKOUT PROBLEM...ONE WEEK AGO, I CHANGED THE OIL IN MY WIFE'S IMPALA, AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS, TO CLEAN AND LUBE THEM. CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN, AND ONE WEEK LATER, IT STILL HAS NOT STARTED. I AM CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED, IN A VERY DEPRESSED AREA OF UPSTATE NEW YORK, AND WE ARE TRYING TO HANG ON TO OUR HOME, THOUGH THAT LOOKS IN DOUBT. DID NOT NEED THIS TO HAPPEN RIGHT NOW, AND I AM ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS THAT GM WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, AND THAT THEY HAVE YOU PAY FOR IT, WHEN IT HAPPENS TO YOU. THIS PASSLOCK PROBLEM IS FOUND ON ALL MAKES OF GM CARS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET, AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE OUT THERE WITH THIS PROBLEM, YET NOTHING IS BEING DONE. I CANNOT PAY THE $500.00 TO $1000.00 TO GET THIS JUNK GOING, AND IF YOU READ THE FORUMS ONLINE, YOU WILL SEE THAT IF YOU DO, THE PROBLEM WILL COME BACK ANYWAY! I HAVE A 2001 IMPALA. THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING.MY HIGH BEAMS WORK FINE.*AK
IN THE PAST 6-8 MONTHS, MY 2001 CHEVY IMPALA STARTED TO SHOW THE OBVIOUS SIGNS OF INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAKS (SLUDGE ON OIL CAP, BROWN RESIDUE IN COOLANT OVERFLOW RESERVOIR, SMALL COOLANT PUDDLES ON ENGINE). AT 71,000 MILES I RECEIVED A QUOTE AT A GM DEALER FOR THE FIX...$900.00. THE DEALER SAID HE DOES ONE A DAY ON THESE GM 3.4 ENGINES. AS A SIDE, MY WIFE'S VENTURE, SISTER'S VENTURE AND FATHER IMPALA ALL HAVE THE FAULTY INTAKE MAIFOLD COOLANT/OIL LEAK. AFTER SPEAKING WITH GM, THEY AGREED ONLY TO PAY FOR THE TWO BOLTS, A GASKET AND A SMALL TUBE OF SEALANT. THIS PAST WEEK, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND I STOPPED THE CAR AT THE NEXT PARKING LOT. IT STALLED THERE AND NEVER STARTED. AFTER A TOW, THE MECHANIC ATTEMPTED TO FILL IT WITH OIL AND RUN IT. WITHIN SECONDS IT FLOWS OUT THE OIL FILTER AND THE FILTER AND/OR FILTER GASKET RUPTURES. AFTER CHECKING THE OIL PUMP AND OIL PUMP SENSOR, HIS DIAGNOSIS IS FOR AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. HE CLAIMS THAT THE SLUDGE FROM THE ANTIFREEZE HAS BUILT UP, AND A CAM BEARING HAS BEEN DAMAGED, RENDERING THE ENGINE IRREPLACEABLE. I CURRENTLY HAVE ,MULTIPLE OPTIONS, THE CHEAPEST OF WHICH IS $3,500.00. WE ARE A GM FAMILY, MY FATHER RETIRED FROM GM. WHY CAN'T GM FACE THE FAULTY DESIGN FLAW OF THE MANIFOLD GASKETS AND COOLANT PROBLEMS? *TR

THE VEHICLE EXPLODED. THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 50,000.
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD A REFERENCE NUMBER FROM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION 71-489286337. THE TURN SIGNAL STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT ANY REASON. JUST AS THE CONTACT WAS CHANGING LANES THE TURN SIGNAL STOPPED WORKING. A SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONTACT THAT HE SHOULD TURN THE HAZARD SIGNAL ON AND OFF AND THAT THE TURN SIGNAL SHOULD WORK, AND IT DID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL FAILED INTERMITTENTLY.THIS WOULD INDICATE THAT THE HAZARD SWITCH FAILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 70000.*AK UPDATED 04/05/07. *JB
VEHICLE SHUTS OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING, I HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, AND THE CAR WILL RESTART. THERE IS NOT ALWAYS A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, THIS CAR SHUT DOWN ON ME IN A SNOW STORM IN THE SIERRAS, IN THE DARK I WAS LUCKY TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OFF AND RESTART. THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AT THIS TIME. THE DEALER CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND JUST WANTS TO START REPLACING PARTS, VERY EXPENSIVE. THE COMMENT FROM THE DEALER WAS IF THE PART WE REPLACE DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THE WE KNOW THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NO PROBLEM PAYING TO REPAIR THIS CAR IF THEY CAN TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, I DON'T WANT TO START REPLACING PARTS GOOD PARTS @ $500.00 A POP BECAUSE GM CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM,RIGHT NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE SOME CAN BE HURT OR KILLED. *JB
THE BATTERY ON MY 2001 CHEVY IMPALA WAS DEAD, SO I PUT A BATTERY CHARGER ON THE BATTERY AND WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR, NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAITED 2-4 MINUTES FOR THE BATTERY TO CHARGE AND TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. AS SOON AS I TURNED THE KEY, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLODED INTO ABOUT 10 PIECES THROUGHOUT MY GARAGE. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP TODAY AND AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM. *NM
SEVERAL ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ONE TURN SIGNALS AND FLASHER ONLY WORK ABOUT HALF TIME, ONE BRAKE LIGHT WORKS ABOUT 1/2 TIME DRIVERSIDE HEATED SEAT OVER HEATED COULD NOT CUT IT OFF TOOK STRAIGHT TO DEALER POGUE CHEVROLET SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO PUT IT ON COMPUTER TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, SAID IT WOULD COST $100.00 TO CHECK IT OUT I ASKED THEM IF THEY COULD CHECK IT WITH OUT ME PAYING THE $100.00 THEY SAID NO I TOLD THEM I COULD NOT DRIVE IT LIKE THAT THEY UNPLUGGED THE SEAT, LATER I WAS INFORMED BY MY COUSIN WHO CAME UP FROM FLORIDA THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU PEOPLE HE SAID CHEVROLET WERE OBLIGATED TO FIX ANY SAFETY ISSUES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PAINT SHOP, IT SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE AS NOTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 96V116000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM), THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COVER INTAKE MANIFOLD AND THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 95,000.
MAJOR ELECTRICAL FAILURES ON OUR 2001 CHEVY IMPALA. TURN SIGNALS WORK INTERMITTENTLY, POWER WINDOWS FAILING, ALARM SOUNDS IF THE REMOTE KEY IS USED TO OPEN CAR. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND EXPERIENCED A COUPLE FROM ACQUAINTANCES AS WELL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE WAS FAULTY AND A MAJOR SAFETY RISK. THE TURN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK, THE DOME LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED, THE TRUNK OPENS AUTOMATICALLY, THE SECURITY LIGHT ILLUMINATES, THE HEADLIGHTS FLASH OFF AND ON, AND THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS DO NOT ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 205,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
ON 12/13/06 AFTER 1 YEAR OF OWNING THE VEHICLE WE HAD A LOSS OF POWER UPON ACCELERATING. WE WERE ADVISED THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING. A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE UPON RESEARCH. IN ADDITION, THE COOLANT LEAKING ONTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER CAUSING IT TO FAIL AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER , CLAIMING THE COOLANT CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND WAS NOT COVERED. HAD TO PAY OVER $!,000 FOR REPAIRS. 2 DAYS LATER COULD NOT START THE CAR. WAS ADVISED THAT THESE VEHICLES HAD AN ANTI THEFT FEATURE IF WORK WAS DONE ON THE CAR IT COULD CAUSE THE ANTI THEFT FEATURE TO FAIL AND WOULD BE A NEED FOR A NEW IGNITION. SEVERAL HUNDRED MORE DOLLARS). AS THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS EITHER. THESE FAILURES WERE DUE TO THE AWFUL DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE, AND THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THE OWNER REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS. THE SEAT BELT FAILURE CAUSED HEAD INJURIES ONCE AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT DEPENDED UPON THE TYPE OF CRASH AND HOW FAST THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE SEAT BELTS MAY OR MAY NOT LOCK UP IN A CRASH TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER.
