I BOUGHT 4 NEW TIRES AT SEARS IN WLILMINGTON, N.C. LAST MAY, I HAVE PUT LESS THAN 12,000 MILES ON THESE TIRES. BEGINNING IN ;APRIL OF 08, I STARTED TO NOTICE A LOW TIRE AND PROCEEDED TO THE STATION TO PUMP IT UP. AS I WAS PUTTING AIR IN THE TIRE I HEARD AIR ESCAPING AND MOVED THE VALVE STEM AND IT WAS LOOSE. I PUT ENOUGH AIR IN IT TO GET AROUND THE CORNER TO THE SERVICE STATION AND HE SAID IT WAS THE STEM. I WAS TRYING TO DECIDE HOW I WAS GOING TO AFFORD A NEW TIRE AND HE SAID THAT HE COULD REPLACE THE VALVE STEM. HE CHARGED ME $10. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT THREE WEEKS LATER AND THEN AGAIN THIS WEEK, MAY 21! THREE TIRES OUT OF FOUR HAVE HAD THE STEMS REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING OVER 40 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO A TIRE, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THE STEMS COULD BE REPLACED. I CALLED SEARS AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING A RECEIPT FOR FIXING THE TIRES AND THEY WOULD REFUND THE MONEY. *TR
SECURITY LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, DOOR LOCKS WON'T WORK, SOMETIMES CAR WOULDN'T START. SECURITY SYSTEM IS BAD. HAD TO HAVE A NEW IGNITION SWITCH. CAR STILL WON'T START. NOW NEEDS A BODY CONTROL MODULE. CAR STILL AT MECHANICS. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR 60 DAYS. UNSURE WHAT BILL IS UP TO. CAR WOULD START OVERHEATING. OCCURRED 3-5 TIMES BEFORE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND FIXED. IT WAS THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. REPLACED IT FOR AROUND $600.00. HEADLIGHTS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. MECHANIC AND DEALER HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHY. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. CAR WOULD START KNOCKING AND RIDE ROUGH TO THE POINT THAT IT COULDN'T BE DRIVEN. IT OCCURRED 2 TIMES ON DIFFERENT BOLTS. ROCKER ARM BOLTS WERE BLOWN OUT OF THE HEAD. FIXED FOR $300.00 EACH TIME. *TR
2003 IMPALA HIGHBEAMS WHEN IN USE DO TOTALLY GO OUT BLINKERS JUST STOP BLINKING AFTER INTERNET RESEARCH COMMON PROBLEM WITH IMPALAS WHICH GM WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR. THEY RECALLED THE MALIBU HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO GET KILLED BEFORE THEY TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. NO BAILOUT FOR THEM. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THEIR MISTAKES. I'M STILL PAYING FOR THE CAR. *TR
PASSLOCK SYSTEM ON 2003 IMPALA KEEPS LOCKING OUT THE FUEL SYSTEM KEEPING THE CAR FROM STARTING. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED FOR THIS REASON, NOW IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN. *TR
MY 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA THE SPEEDOMETER READS 140 MILES AT ALL TIME OR SHOWS NOTHING. *TR
2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA INVOLVED IN FRONT END COLLISION INTO THE SIDE OF A 2000 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. IMPALA AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH THE FRONT AIRBAGS ON THE CORVETTE DID. *TR
NOTICED FAILURE OF AIR BAGS, DOOR LOCKS, RADIO, A/C, SECURITY LOCKOUT/ NO START BATTERY DRAINED. I AM ASE CERTIFIED AND LOCATED THE BATTERY DRAIN TO THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE). AFTER REPLACING IT, IT WAS NECESSARY TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPROGRAMMED. AT THIS TIME ALL FUNCTIONS (BUT THE DOOR LOCKS) WORK. OF COURSE THE DEALER REP SAYS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS PRE EXISTING AS ALL THE OTHER FUNCTIONS WORK. I WILL NOW START LOOKING INTO THE CAUSE OF THE DOOR LOCK FAILURE. HERE'S WHY I'M WRITING. THESE PROBLEMS ARE HUGE SAFETY ISSUES NOT TO MENTION THE EXPENSE AND EXTREME INCONVENIENCE AND "DOWN" TIME. AS YOU DRIVE, THE CAR HAS NO AIR BAGS, THE DOOR LOCKS DON'T WORK AND WITH MY 4 DOOR CAR I CAN'T EVEN LOCK MY CAR TO PARK IT OUTSIDE OF AN UNLOCKED GARAGE. I WANT THIS TO KNOWN AS THE MOST UNSAFE VEHICLE I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. *TR
I RECENTLY FOUND THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET FAILS ON THE CHEVROLET 3.8 V6 AND THAT CHEVROLET HAS KNOWN OF THE PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. I TRAVEL CROSS COUNTRY REGULARLY IN MY 2003 IMPALA WITH THE 3.8 ENGINE AND AM CONCERNED THAT THE ENGINE WILL FAIL ON THE HIGHWAY AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENT. BEFORE I KNEW THAT GM WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM I OWNED A 2000 S-10 PICK UP AND HAD THE GASKET REPLACED FOR OVER $700 DOLLARS. I NOW FACE THE SAME EXPENSE OR MORE TO FIX THE IMPALA. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED AND FIXED HIS PROBLEM BECAUSE HEY WERE AWARE OF THE DEFECT IN THE GASKET AND PLASTIC COOLANT PART GOING THROUGH THE VALVE COVER. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA THAT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS NOT STARTING. MY WIFE HAS BEEN STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES AND WHEN I WOULD ARRIVE THE CAR WOULD START. I STARTED HAPPENING EVERY TWO WEEKS OR SO NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE USE THE CAR. IF YOU IT SET FOR 10 TO 30 MINUTES IT WILL START. I HAVE FOUND THAT IF YOU REMOVE THE FUSE TO THE BCM FOR ABOUT 30 SEC THE CAR WILL START . I HAVE READ SEVERAL WEB SITE ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAY THAT COST $500 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REPAIRED BY A DEALER. I BELIEVE THAT WITH AS MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THERE SHOULD BE A INVESTIGATION WHY GM ISN'T RECALLING CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE 2003 CHEVY IMPALA AND HAS BEEN FAILING TO START FOR OVER A YEAR. AT FIRST WAIT 10 TO 15 MINUTES AND TRY IF IT DIDN'T START WAIT AGAIN AND CONTINUE THIS UNTIL IT DID START. THEN I FOUND IF YOU REMOVED THE BCM FUSE AND REPLACED IT, THE CAR WOULD START. SO I INSTALLED A SWITCH TO REMOVE POWER FROM THE BCM TO RESET IT. NOW DEPENDING ON THE OUTSIDE TEMP. IT TAKES 1 TO 20 TRIES TO START THE CAR. THIS IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND I FEEL DANGEROUS BECAUSE MY WIFE PRIMARILY DRIVE THE CAR. I HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO COME UP THIS A FIX FOR THIS. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BY GM. *TR
DRIVING AT NIGHT USING THE AUTO HEADLIGHT FUNCTION, THE HEADLIGHT FAIL (QUIT) ON HIGHBEAM. AT 75 MPH THIS CAN BE A LIFE THREATENING EXPERIENCE, I WAS LUCKILY ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AT THE TIME. WHEN IT HAPPENED I TRIED TURNING THE LIGHTS ON WITH THE SWITCH, PUSHED AND PULLED IT AND THAT DID NOT WORK. I CAME TO A STOP AND WAS GOING TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 9 TIMES. IT ONLY DOES IT ON HIGH BEAM SETTING, IT HAS NOT DONE IT WHEN THE SWITCH IS PULLED TO THE "ON" POSITION AS OF YET. *TR
MY SECURITY LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH THEN EVERYTHING WENT CRAZY FROM THERE LIGHTS BLINKING ON AND OFF DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THEN THE RADIO WILL SHOW LOCKED ON IT TRUNK WILL OPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WOULD START ON COOL DAYS NOW THAT IT HAS TURNED HOT IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. I HAVE READ ALL KINDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS MATTER THIS ISSUE REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO AND ISSUE A RECALL I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS DEALERS TELL ME IT IS A BCM AND IT WILL COST APPROX 500.00 IF SO MANY OF THESE IMPALAS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING OR TELL SOMEONE HOW TO FIX THIS WITHOUT PAYING 500.00. *TR
2003 CHEVY IMPALA -- INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET -- TOLD FACTORY PUTS ON PLASTIC ONES THAT DO NOT LAST, CAUSING OIL LEAKAGE AND POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR IF NOT CORRECTED IN TIME - DID NOT SEE ANY RECALL ON THIS ISSUE -- WHY??? *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME DURING EVENING HOURS ON A NARROW 2 LANE COUNTY ROAD WHEN WITHOUT WARNING THE HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS TOTALLY TURNED OFF. SHE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED ON THE ROADWAY AS THERE WAS NO SHOULDER TO MOVE ONTO. SHE TRIED TO OPERATE THE HEADLIGHTS MANUALLY WITH NO EFFECT. THE ENGINE WAS NOT AFFECTED. SHE CALLED ME VIA CELL PHONE AND BEGAN TO EXPLAIN WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. SHE PROCEEDED TOWARD OUR HOME AND ABOUT 500 FEET FROM OUR DRIVEWAY THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AGAIN. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER IDENTICAL INSTANCES WITH NO RESOLUTION AS THE PROBLEM APPEARS INTERMITTENTLY. AN INTERNET TECH SAID THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM). I HAVE ALREADY HAD ONE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE FOR A NON-RELATED PROBLEM ON 08/04/2006. I HAVE NOT YET CALLED THE DEALER THIS TIME BECAUSE OF THEIR DENIAL OF THE PREVIOUS BCM PROBLEM - THAT ONCE REPLACED AT MY INSISTENCE FIXED THAT PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY SITUATION WITH HUGE POTENTIAL FOR HARM. MY WIFE WILL NOW NOT DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHT AND MUCH OF HER WORK (AND MINE) INVOLVES EVENING MEETINGS. *TR
I DISCOVERED ACCIDENTALLY THAT MY 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA HAS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT MAY CAUSE SOME HEALTH PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE LEAD TO DEATH. IN THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL OF THE CAR IS A DEVICE THAT IS CALLED A BODY PRESSURE VALVE THAT VENTS CABIN PRESSURE. THE PROBLEM IS IT LETS SNOW AND RAIN IN THE STAGNANT WATER SITS IN YOUR FENDER AND IS A BREEDING GROWN FOR GERMS. THE DEALER WAS SHOCKED WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN AND ASKED ME WHAT MADE ME THINK TO REMOVE THE CARPET AND LOOK IN THE FENDER. ALL THEY COULD DO WAS TAKE THE WATER OUT. STANDING WATER IN A FENDER WILL CAUSE A RUST PROBLEM. I ASKED THEM WHAT COULD BE DONE AND THEY TOLD ME TO PUT A NEW VALVE IN. THAT WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FLAP IS NOT AIR TIGHT AND IS VENTED WATER AND FUMES SUCH AS CARBON MONOXIDE CAN ENTER THE CAR THROUGH IT . THE EXHAUST IS ONLY 12 INCHES OR LESS FROM IT. THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES DO NOT RUN THE CAR WHEN SITTING STILL LETS ME KNOW THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM . WE ALL HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO RUN CARS IN ENCLOSED BUILDINGS BUT THIS IS TOO MUCH. IF IDLING IN TRAFFIC ONE MUST BE ASTUTE ENOUGH TO KEEP THEIR VEHICLE FAN ON AND OUTSIDE AIR COMING INTO THE VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES SO NOT TO ALLOW THE CAR TO FILL UP WITH FUMES FROM THE TAIL PIPE THAT SITS BENEATH THE PRESSURE VALVE. WHAT A DUMB DESIGN. CAR WAS SERVICED ON 03/04/08 I WAS ALWAYS SPRAYING DEODORIZER IN THE TRUNK AND IT SMELLED LIKE A CESSPOOL AS FAR AS THE REST OF THIS REPORT GOES THE NUMBER OF FAILURES IS TOTAL FAILURE IT HAS NEVER WORKED AND COULD BE CONSTRUED TO BE CRIMINAL NEGLECT. *TR
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON MY CAR FAILED TO RELEASE, RENDERING THE CAR INOPERABLE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF NOT USING THE BRAKE FREQUENTLY, AND IT'S DESIGN CAUSES IT TO RUST OVER TIME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH IN THE SNOW, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED. THE CONTACT PLAYED WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH UNTIL THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE LIGHTS DIMMED AGAIN SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DIMMER SWITCH MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 66,000. PASSKEY THEFT DETTERENT SYSTEM FAILS NOT ALLOWING CAR TO START. THERE IS NO WORK AROUND EXCEPT TO RETURN CAR TO DEALERSHIP. *TR
MY IMPALA BEGAN TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE THERMOSTAT READING GOING FROM COOL TO HOT EXTREMELY QUICK AND THE RED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THESE VEHICLES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR INTAKE MANIFOLD ISSUES AND THAT THIS IS THE CAUSE OF MY PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND STILL REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. IT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $1,500.00 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND IF REPAIRS ARE NOT MADE, THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE A SLOW LEAK OR EVENTUALLY, THE ENGINE WILL GO COMPLETELY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE SECURITY LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHED. THE FAILURE OCCURS APPROXIMATELY DURING EVERY TENTH START ATTEMPT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE LOCAL DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 94,000.
HEADLIGHTS RANDOMLY TURN OFF AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING MY 2003 IMPALA. NOTHING I DO SEEMS TO HELP THEM COME BACK ON. I HAVE PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO MANUALLY TURN THEM ON, I HAVE TURNED OFF MY CAR AND RESTARTED, I HAVE HIT THE SWITCH TO GO FROM BRIGHT TO DIM. NOTHING HAS HELPED. THEY EVENTUALLY COME BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED MAYBE THREE TIMES SO FAR. I HAVE NO CLUE AS TO WHEN THIS STARTED BUT SINCE YOU ARE MAKING ME PICK A DATE I DID. IT WOULD PROBABLY HAPPEN MORE BUT I QUIT DRIVING MY CAR AT NIGHT FOR THE FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN! HAVE NEVER TAKEN IT TO THE SHOP TO HAVE FIXED SINCE I AM MARRIED TO A MECHANIC. HOWEVER HE HAS YET TO BOTHER TRYING TO FIX IT OR SEE WHAT COULD BE WRONG EITHER. *TR
WENT TO WORK EARLY ONE MORNING, WHEN I GOT OFF WORK GOT IN CAR, PUT KEY IN IGNITION AND IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN. HAD NOT HAD ANY PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH IGNITION AT ALL. I TRIED OTHER SPARE KEYS AND THEY ALSO WOULD NOT TURN IGNITION. A MECHANIC SAY THAT IT IS THE IGNITION CYLINDER IS FROZE. *TR
TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT BOTH CAN COME ON AT INTERMITTENT TIMES. BOTH HAPPEN WHEN TURNING INTO OR BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN ANY SORT OF WEATHER INCLUDING PERFECTLY DRY CEMENT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS LEAD TO ACCIDENTS WITH INDIVIDUALS BECAUSE YOU DON'T GET THE FULL BREAKING POWER WHEN MAKING TURNS. THIS HAPPENS ALSO WHEN MAKING SLOW TURNS AROUND ANY CORNER. THE PROBLEM IS NOW HAPPENING ALMOST ALL OF THE TIME WHEN MAKING TURNS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO REPLACE MY FRONT HUBS AS WELL AS THE WIRING HARNESSES BUT I HAVE BEEN READING UP ON IT AND HAVE SEEN THAT NONE OF THOSE THINGS HAVE WORKED FOR ANYONE AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO COME BACK AFTER SPENDING OVER $1000 DOLLARS. *TR
CAR WOULDN'T START AT RANDOM ON DAY, WOULDN'T CRANK, SECURITY LIGHT WOULD FLASH WHEN KEY WAS TURNED TO ON, TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PASSLOCK SENSOR AND IGNITION SWITCH. ABOUT A WEEK LATER DID THE SAME THING, NO CRANK AND SECURITY LIGHT FLASHING, THEY REPROGRAMMED IT AGAIN AND SAID THAT THE BCM MIGHT BE GOING OUT. DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS, THEN IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. CAR SAT FOR ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY JUST HAD TO JUMP THE CAR AND IT STARTED. AFTER I GOT IT BACK THE THIRD TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, THE AUTO LOCKS AND HEADLIGHTS DID NOT WORK. NOW ABOUT 3 MONTHS LATER, CAR IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DECELERATING TO 10 MPH AND ACTIVATING THE TURN SIGNAL, THE HEADLIGHTS COMPLETELY DIMMED. TWO OR THREE SECONDS LATER, THE HEADLIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT CONDUCTED HIS OWN TEST; EACH TIME HE ACTIVATED THE TURN SIGNAL, THE HEADLIGHTS DIMMED AND THEN ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER, BUT HE HAS NOT TAKEN HIS VEHICLE THERE AT THIS TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,299 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,250. MY HEAD LIGHTS FAILED ON MY 03 IMPALA. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT IT HAS HAPPENED. ITS SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYDAY. BUT THIS LAST TIME REALLY MADE ME FEAR FOR MY LIFE. I WAS COMING HOME AT NIGHT ABOUT TO SOME TO A CURVE GOING 40 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF. I ALMOST WENT INTO THE DITCH AND THERE WAS A POLE RIGHT THERE I COULD OF HIT. I CAME ONLINE TO TRY TO FIND OUT IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND THAT LEAD ME TO THIS WEBSITE. IM REALLY AFRAID IF I DIDN'T GO AHEAD AND DO THIS THAT I WOULD REGRET IT. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THAT MORE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THAT ITS NOT A SAFE. I'D FEEL REALLY GUILTY IF THIS MIGHT HAVE KILLED SOMEONE IF IT ALREADY HASN'T. HIGH-BEAM HEADLIGHTS SOMETIMES GO OUT, NO PATTERN DETECTED. RELAY IS SUSPECTED. *TR

2003 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 61,000 MILES HAD TRANSMISSION REBUILT, REPLACE RADIATOR, HEATER CORE, WATER PUMP AND INTAKE MANIFOLD ALL DUE TO DEXCOOL DUMPING INTO ALL THE ABOVE FROM RADIATOR CALLED CHERVOLET AND DEXCOOL MANUFACTURE THEY BLAMED ONE ANOTHER FOR THE PROBLEM, NEITHER DID ANYTHING ABOUT. RESULTING IN $2293.87 WORTH OF REPAIRS AND NOT TO MENTION NO VEHICLE FOR OVER 3 WEEKS DOES NOT INCLUDE PRICE OF RENTAL FOR A WEEK OR SO AND TIME OFF FOR RUNNING VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOPS. *TR

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LIFTED THE HOOD, AND NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM THE ENGINE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED HER THAT THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, BUT THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AGAIN MONTHS LATER. IN AUGUST OF 2008, BODY WORK WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AND AFTERWARDS THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE ON AND OFF AUTOMATICALLY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE BODY SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE COMBINATION SWITCH. THE COMBINATION SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL; THEREFORE, THE ORIGINAL PART WAS REINSTALLED. AFTER THE FAILED ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE FAILURE, THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE COMBINATION SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 171,920 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
MY 2003 CHEVY IMPALA HAS A FEATURE FOR SHOWING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. 1ST TIME MY TIRE WAS BELOW 20 LBS WITH A NAIL IN IT AND LOW TIRE PRESSURE DID NOT SHOW. I TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. 2ND TIME MY TIRE HAD A BLOW-OUT IN THE SIDE WALL. WHILE RUNNING ON A FLAT TIRE, THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE DID NOT SHOW. I REPLACED THE FLAT TIRE WITH THE SPARE AND WHEN I DROVE OFF WITH THE SPARE, THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SHOWED. IT IS A GOOD THING THE 2ND TIME WITH THE BLOW OUT AND FLAT TIRE: A.IT WAS ON THE BACK WHEEL AND IT DID NOT AFFECT MY DRIVING AND ON A SLOW CITY STREET. B.IT WAS NOT ON MY FRONT TIRE , WHERE IT WOULD HAVE AFFECTED MY DRIVING AND I WAS NOT ON A FREEWAY, WHERE I MAY HAVE BEEN KILLED FROM IT. TO ME, THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE 2003 CHEVY IMPALA THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND DEATH. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A 3/4 INCH HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDEWALL. UPDATED 09/26/07. *JB

PURCHASED A SECOND CHEVROLET IMPALA WITH SAME DEFECT WITH TAIL LIGHT COMPARTMENT. HOLDS WATER INDEFINITELY, NOT JUST CONDENSATION. I NOW HAVE A 2003 AND USED TO HAVE A 2002 WITH SAME PROBLEM. CAUSES LIGHT BULBS TO GO OUT FREQUENTLY AND ALSO ALARM WILL GO OFF WHEN OPENING TRUNK WHICH I SUSPECT MAYBE A SHORT IN WIRING DUE TO WATER. I HAVE CONTACTED A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT AS WELL AS GM CORPORATE AND THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH PROBLEM BUT NO WITH NO RECALLS YET TO PROVIDE RESOLUTION OF WHAT I BELIEVE IS A SAFEY HAZARD WHEN LIGHT BULBS CONTINUE TO GO OUT. OF COURSE THEY WANT ME TO PAY TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY THAT MAY STILL HAVE SOME CONDENSATION PROBLEMS.
MY HIGH BEAM SWITCH DOESN'T WORK IN MY IMPALA. MY CAR IS EITHER AN 02 OR 03 AND, AFTER LOOKING THIS UP ONLINE, IM SEEING THAT THERE ARE A TON OF OTHER COMPLAINTS. THIS IS VERY OBVIOUSLY AN ENGINEERING OR NEGLIGENCE ISSUE WITH THE COMPANY. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, ON OCCASION, IF I SWITCH MY LOW/HIGH BEAMS, THE LIGHTS MAY OR MAY NOT GO COMPLETELY OUT. I HAVE TO SWITCH THEM ON AND OFF AGAIN, MAYBE A FEW TIMES, TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON. THIS POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD SINCE IT COULD TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON. *TR
