2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA WITH 45,242 MILES HAD TO HAVE AN INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED DUE TO IT LEAKING ANTIFREEZE INTO THE OIL. $550. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHSTA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). WHILE DRIVING 10-20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE CONTRIBUTED TO SIX CRASHES. TWO POLICE REPORTS WERE FILED. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC, BUT THE RESULTS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE COURTESY LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE BATTERY LIGHTS WOULD SCROLL ACROSS THE MESSAGE CENTER, AND A CHIME WOULD RING. THE FAILURES OCCUR SPORADICALLY. THE MORE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, THE MORE THE FAILURES OCCUR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE POWERTRAIN AND PURCHASE DATE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 65,746 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,600.
THE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW FROM DEALERSHIP, WITH OCCASIONAL GRINDING NOISES NOTED IN REVERSE AND HEADLIGHTS "SURGING" AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO REPLICATE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GRINDING. I WAS TOLD A LOOSE WIRE WAS CAUSING NOISE IN REVERSE. ON 09/26/05, AFTER NOTICING HARD STALLS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START, THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT $281.60 FOR NEW ONE. 12/09/05, TO DEALERSHIP FOR STARTING CONCERNS AND MAINTENANCE. 04/13/06-CAR WOULD NOT START TO LEAVE WORK. WARD'S CHEVROLET CAME TO MY WORK SITE. LEFT ME A RENTAL AND KEPT MY CAR UNTIL 04/20/06. I PAID $674.56 FOR A 2ND FUEL PUMP AND FUEL MODULE. 06/21/06- TO LOCAL GARAGE WITH SAME COMPLAINTS. $100 PAID FOR "SHORT" IN ELECTRICAL THAT CAUSED NO START AND TOWING. 08/04/06-COOPER BUICK IN MONROE,LA- $281.00 FOR ANOTHER FUEL PUMP AND RECALL ON 2003 IMPALA HEADGASKETS THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF. 11/22/06-NO START, TURN OVER-WENT OUTSIDE 3 HOURS LATER-STARTS WITH HARD START. 12/06/06-BRAKES WENT FROM QUIET TO GRINDING-SLOW HARD STARTS CONTINUE. WARD'S KEPT THE CAR FOR A MONTH-NEVER TOLD ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH CAR EXCEPT BRAKES. DID NOT CHARGE. AT THIS TIME I HAD REQUESTED A GM INVESTI.-NO RESULTS-STATES"THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE CONCERN". THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE SLOW, HARD STARTS WITH VERY NOTICEABLE GAS SMELLS. THE SMELL OF GAS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE 04/20/06 REPAIRS. NOW SERVICE, ABS, SECURITY LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WITH THE SMELL OF GAS AND SLOW, HARD STARTS. I HAVE BEEN CALLING WARD'S SINCE THE FIRST WEEK OF MARCH 2007 REQUESTING FACTORY REP. TO MEET AND DRIVE CAR AFTER THEIR HAVING A MONTH WITH NO IMPROVEMENTS IN CARS FUNCTIONING. I CALLED THIS A.M. TO BE INFORMED THAT NEW SERVICE DEPT. MANAGER WAS NOT AWARE OF PROBLEM. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME SINCE MARCH I HAVE REQUESTED THE FACTORY REP. WITH NO RESPONSE FROM WARD'S. *TR
WHENEVER IT RAINS, THE FLOORBOARDS, IN MY 2003 IMPALA, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR FLOOD. FOUND A SOLUTION FOR GM'S POOR DESIGN. THE COWLING GASKET ABOVE THE CABIN FILTER SHOULD BE REPLACED AND GLUED IN POSITION WITH RTV. THIS SHOULD SOLVE PROBLEM. ALSO MAKE SURE DRAINHOLES AROUND CABIN FILTER ARE CLEAR OF ALL DEBRIS. *TR
AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE REPAIR SHOP AT TWO DEARLERSHIPS FOR MY SLIPPING TRANSMISSION ON MY 2003 IMPALA, THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY FAILED AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED ON THE CAR. *TR
TURNING SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING I HAD TO MANUALLY MOVE MY SIGNAL UP AND DOWN TO TURN CORNERS, GET OVER TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. VERY DANGEROUS HAD TO HAVE HAZARD SWITCH/FLASHER UNIT REPLACED. *JB
MY 2003 IMPALA CUTS OFF AT LOW SPEED HIGH SPEED AND WHILE IN IDLE THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS THEY CANNOT ANSWER WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR, BUT I KEEP GETTING BILLED FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE, I GOT MY CAR BACK ON 4/11/2007 AND ON THE NEXT MORNING WHILE THE CAR WAS WARMING IN THE DRIVE WAY IT SHUT OFF AND WAS HARD TO RESTART I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALERSHIP MY FUEL FILTER WAS THE ISSUE
LIGHTS WENT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS HAPPENED SOON,THOUGH NOT IMMEDIATELY, AFTER FLIPPING ON THE HIGH BEAMS. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NEAR HOME AND NOT GOING FAST,SO WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT INCIDENT. SOMEHOW WHILE PLAYING AROUND WITH THE LIGHT SWITCHES, THEY CAME BACK ON. I HAVEN'T TRIED TO GET IT REPAIRED AS I CAN'T GET IT TO REPEAT THE FAILURE. THIS COULD HAVE HAD SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES, AND I SUPPOSE IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE HEADLAMPS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHARGED HER $669 TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THE UNIT. THE DEALER STATED THAT SHE HAD A FAULTY MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 102,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
2003 CHEVY IMPALA 3.8 ENGINE. I HAVE HAD RECURRING, INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL KICKING IN WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP IN DRY WEATHER AND DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. NOT AN APPROPRIATE TIME FOR IT TO KICK IN. THEN IT RELEASES. I HAVE HAD THE MECHANIC LOOK AT IT SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING BECAUSE THE COMPUTER DOESN'T FLASH A CODE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE CAR WILL BE UNSAFE IF THE TRACTION CONTROL OPERATES AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES. *TR
MY HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING WHEN I WAS OUT OF TOWN. ONLY HAD HI BEAMS IF I HELD THE DIMMER SWITCH TOWARDS ME. ONCE I RELEASED THE SWITCH, I HAD NO LIGHTS. TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE DIMMER SWITCH WITH ONE FROM A WRECKED CAR LIKE MINE BECAUSE A NEW ONE FROM GM WAS $500. *TR ALSO HAD HEAT/AC FAN STOP WORKING. NOW CAR IS MAKING A STRANGE HUMMING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END THAT IS NOT COMING FROM THE MOTOR. MY HUSBAND BELIEVES THE WHEEL BEARINGS MIGHT BE BAD BECAUSE OUR MECHANIC ASKED US IF WE HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM. HE HAS SEEN SEVERAL CARS LIKE MINE WITH WHEEL BEARING ISSUES.
TL*- THE CONTACT TOOK THE 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA FOR AN OIL CHANGE, WHILE SHE WAS AT THE SERVICE LOCATION, THE TECHNICIAN TOLD HER THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS LEAKING. ALSO, THE HIGH BEAM SWITCH DID NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE HIGH BEAM SWITCH TURNED ON, BUT DID NOT STAY ON. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TWO FAILURES WERE COMMON. FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AT 58,524. *AK
BOUGHT CHEVROLET IMPALA IN 2002 CAR HAD 5 MILES ON IT AND I PUT THE 5 MILES BY TEST DRIVING THE CAR I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANYONE TO BY A CHEVROLET . CHEVROLET DOESN'T STAND BY THEIR CARS I HAD TO REPLACES THE INTAKE GASKETS AND A CATALYTIC AND A WATER PUMP AND THIS WEEK I HAD TO PUT A TRANSMISSION IN IT THIS WEEK AND THAT COST ME 2400 AND CHEVROLET WOULD NT HELP US A ALL ,CHEVROLET SAID THAT IT HAD TO MANY MILES ON IT WHAT DO THEY WANT FOR A CAR TO HAVE NO MILES ON IT I DRIVE TO WORK AND BACK. I DON'T THINK CHEVROLET SHOULD HAD TO PAID FOR THE TRANSMISSION BUT I WOULD LIKE THEM TO HELP US AND STAND BY A AMERICAN MADE CAR. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE AUTOMATICALLY, AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THEM ON MANUALLY. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. NO OTHER FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 38,000.*AK
2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONTACT STATES THAT THE DEFOGGER FAILED. A MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE BREAKER FOR THE DEFOGGER DID NOT EXIST AS SHOWN IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND DIAGRAM ON THE BREAKER COVER. *MC *JB
FUEL SYSTEM ,GASOLINE DELIVERY : FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR WAS LEAKING, ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA ,3.4 LITER ENGINE. THE CAR HAS 41000 MILES ON IT. THIS MAY BE THE SAME PROBLEM AS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 04V090000 WHICH INVOLVED A RECALL OF 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALAS WITH THE 3.8 LITER ENGINE FOR LEAKING FUEL REGULATOR. *NM
DURING AN INSPECTION OF MY 2003 IMPALA, MECHANIC ADVISED OF A COOLANT LEAK IN UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD (A VERY COMMON DEFECT FOR THIS MODEL / YEAR) AND IT WOULD COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPAIR IT AND ALL CARS OF THIS MODEL / YEAR SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPAIR. *TR
NOTICED IT TOOK LONGER FOR THE CAR TO HEAT UP LAST WINTER; THIS WINTER STARTED OUT THE SAME, AND I NOTICED THE BLOWER WOULDN'T WORK ON SETTING 5 SOMETIMES. THEN IT QUIT HEATING ALTOGETHER, AND THE FAN WOULD QUIT BUT START BACK UP. NOW THE FAN QUIT BLOWING ALTOGETHER. NO HEAT, NO DEFROST, IN SUB-ZERO WEATHER, AND I'M LOOKING AT ABOUT $1000 IN "REPAIRS" WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED AS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THANKS GM. I'LL BE SURE TO BUY ANOTHER OF YOUR VEHICLES. THERE IS A MANIFOLD GASKET LEAK, AND THE BLOWER MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *JB

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,100 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,047. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A BREAKER OR A FUSE FOR THE REAR DEFROSTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH THIS COMPONENT. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE MUST PAY TO HAVE THE FEATURE ADDED. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THE CONSUMER STATED HE DIDN'T REQUEST TO HAVE THE FEATURE ADDED JUST REQUESTED TO SHOW HIM THE BREAKER. UPDATED 11/07/07 *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA THAT KEEPS SHOWING A SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM ALARM. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES SHUT OFF. I HAVE CHECKED THE CODES AND NONE SHOW. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT COULD BE IN THE WIRING HARNESS OR THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING ON EITHER OR BOTH SIDES. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. I HAVE HAD IT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND WITHIN A FEW MONTH OF GETTING IT MY DOOR LOCK FUSE STARTED BLOWING. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF REPLACING THE FUSE EVERY OTHER DAY MY SECURITY LIGHT STARTED COMING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. DURING THE PAST YEAR WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR SOMETIMES IT DOES GOOD OTHER TIMES MY HEADLIGHTS FLICKER ON AND OFF AND GO COMPLETELY OUT WHICH HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS, MY RADIO TURNS OFF ON ITS OWN. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF FUSES THAT BLOW THAT CAUSES MY CAR NOT TO START AT ALL, MY INTERIOR LIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF. MY CAR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY IMPALA THAT HAS STARTING PROBLEMS(NO START) . SINCE 2004, THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 4 BCM AND PCM MODULES INSTALLED ON THIS CAR FROM THE GM DEALERS IN WHICH I HAVE ALL THE PAPERWORK FOR. FOR THE FIRST YEAR, THE SECURITY LIGHT WOULD COME ON THEN CAR WOULDN'T START FOR 10-15MINS. THEN THE SECOND YEAR CAR WOULDN'T START FOR 30-45MINS. TAKE TO DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. SO THE THIRD YEAR, AFTER MISSING ALOT OF TIME FROM WORK, IT STARTING DOING THE SAME THING AND I HAD IT TOWED TO GM. THEY HAD IT A WEEK AND STILL FOUND NO PROBLEMS. THEN THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND TOWED AGAIN- THIS TIME THEY STARTED THROWING PARTS AT IT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE( BILL HEARD IN PLANT CITY,FL). SO AFTER NEW PARTS, IT RAN FOR ABOUT 4-6 MONTHS AND STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. I AGAIN TOOK TO DEALER AND NO PROBLEM FOUND BUT THEY DECIDED TO PUT ANOTHER BCM ON IT. THEN IT WOULD WORK FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN THE SECURITY LIGHT, TRACTION LIGHT,ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND NEXT TIME I TRY TO START IT THEN NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. SO THIS IS HAPPENING ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY NOW. THIS CAR HAS LEFT ME STRANDED SO MANY TIMES THAT I AM SICK OF IT AND I KEEP PUTTING MONEY OUT FOR TOWING BILLS AND ALL THE GM DEALER CAN TELL ME IS TO BRING IT IN AND THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT AGAIN. I HAVE PUT OUT ALOT OF MONEY FOR BCMS EVERY YEAR NOW AND NO WARRANTY NOR MY MONEY BACK FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS. I THINK GM HAS DONE A POOR JOB AT EVALUATING THESE CONCERNS AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ON ALL OF THE VEHICLES WITH THE PASSLOCK II SYSTEM. *TR
MY PASSLOCK SYSTEM HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING FOR YEARS NOW (2007-2015) AND AT RANDOM INTERVALS, MY CAR WILL NOT START AND I HAVE TO WAIT 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL START. SOMETIMES THE "SECURITY" LIGHT WILL TURN ON WHILE I AM OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND AFTER I HAVE PARKED IT, THE SECURITY LIGHT WILL FLASH AND I CAN'T START THE ENGINE UNTIL AFTER THE 15 MINUTE CYCLE HAS CONCLUDED. NOT ONLY HAS THIS ISSUE BEEN AN INCONVENIENCE, BUT I HAVE HAD OCCASIONS WHERE IT HAS PUT ME IN DANGER. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM FAILURE, NOR DO I HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPAIR OR REMOVE IT. I BELIEVE THAT PASSLOCK WAS A FAULTY SYSTEM FROM THE BEGINNING AND THE FACT THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED SHOCKS ME. I AM VERY AFRAID THAT ONE DAY THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM MALFUNCTION WILL OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THAT I WILL LOSE POWER STEERING, BRAKING, AND OTHER VITAL OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS. NOTICEABLY, THE PASSLOCK MALFUNCTION HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT, SO I NEEDED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. I HAVE TALKED TO SERVICE EXPERTS AT MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION THAT THIS ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD, INCLUDING MANY GM VEHICLES, AND THAT EVENTUALLY MY CAR JUST WON'T START ANYMORE. THE QUOTED PRICES TO FIX THIS ISSUE (EITHER REPAIRING IT OR REMOVING IT ENTIRELY) HAVE BEEN RIDICULOUSLY HIGH AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I SHOULD BE FORCED INTO PAYING FOR A WELL-KNOWN GM/CHEVROLET PROBLEM.
FREQUENTLY AT NIGHT, WHEN SWITCHING FROM LOW BEAM TO HIGH BEAM ALL THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT.....FOUND BY FLICKERING BACK TO LOW BEAM THEY WILL COME BACK ON. SOMETIMES THEY GO OUT W/O SWITCHING TO HIGH BEAM. SEEMS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK! *NM
TL* - ON DECEMBER 25, 2006, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN HER CHILD GOT OUT OF THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT AND OPENED THE PASSENGER DOOR. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND SECURED HER CHILD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE CONTACT HAS SINCE CALLED THOROBRED CHEVROLET FROM WHOM SHE PURCHASED THE CAR TO FIND OUT WHY THE CAR DID NOT HAVE CHILD PROOF SAFETY LOCKS. THE DEALER TRIED TO SELL HER A NEW CAR INSTEAD OF PROVIDING HER WITH INFORMATION ON HOW SHE COULD GET SOME CHILD PROOF SAFETY LOCKS FOR THIS CAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS THE ONLY DEALERSHIP THAT SHE HAS CONTACTED CONCERNING THE CHILD PROOF LOCKS . THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND SHE WOULD LIKE THE CHILD PROOF SAFETY LOCKS ADDED TO THE CAR AT NO COST, OR TO BE PROVIDED WITH A CAR THAT DID HAVE CHILD PROOF LOCKS. *AK UPDATED 02/09/07. *JB
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA WHICH HAS 46,904 MILES ON IT AND IT REQUIRED THE FOLLOWING AT A COST OF $1,150.00 TO FIX. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER FOR A NO HEAT PROBLEM, UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE IT WAS FOUND TO NEED NEW LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS, NEW WATER PUMP, FLUSHING AND NEW DEXCOOL ANTIFREEZE BECAUSE OF CONTAMINATION. *NM

ABOUT 9:00 PM I WAS DRIVING ABOUT TWO KM. FROM HOME WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I HAD HAZARD LIGHTS, PARKING LIGHTS AND REAR LIGHTS. I TRIED HIGH AND LOW BEAMS TURNING LIGHTS ON AND OFF BUT THEY WOULD NOT TURN ON. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THE NEXT MORNING AND STILL NO LIGHTS. WHEN THEY FLIPP THE HI-LOW BEAMS THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON-THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENED. *NM
COMPLAINTS OF ENGINE TEMPERATURE ALWAYS ENDED WITH NO FOUND PROBLEMS ON VEHICLE OWNED AND SERVICED REGULARLY SINCE PURCHASED NEW IN APRIL 2003. REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND ENGINE COOLANT FLUSH AS RECOMMENDED BY MANUFACTURER WERE COMPLETED AND STILL NO PROBLEMS FOUND. AT 75,671 MILES DEALER FOUND INTAKE GASKETS LEAKING AND SAID ENGINE DAMAGE WOULD OCCUR IF NOT REPLACED. REPAIR COST $658. FOUND THAT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS INDICATE THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM IN A HOST OF GM VEHICLES FROM 2000. PUBLIC IS BEING FORCED TO PAY FOR MAJOR ENGINE REPAIRS FOR POOR ENGINEERING ON THE PART OF THE MANUFACTURER. ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR THE LESS THAN KNOWLEDGEABLE DRIVER. ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS WITH POOR LESS THAN OPTIMAL ENGINE PERFORMANCE, LOSS OF COOLANT, OIL, ETC. SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED. RECENTLY, I HAVE HAD 3 OR 4 INSTANCES WHERE THE LIGHTS ON MY 2003 IMPALA WENT COMPLETELY OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD SWITCHED THE LIGHTS BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAM. THIS IS RATHER CONCERTING. MY FRIEND REPORTED THAT HER 2002 IMPALA HAS ALSO RECENTLY BEGAN DOING THE SAME THING. MY LIMITED RESEARCH LED ME TO THIS SITE. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. UPDATED 12/12/2006 - ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT WHEN SWITCHED FROM HIGH BEAM TO LOW BEAM. THE LIGHTS DID NOT COME BACK ON UNTIL THE CONSUMER BEGUN TO JIGGLE THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH. THE POWER WINDOWS WOULD NOT GO DOWN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH. *NM
MY 2003 IMPALA STARTED WITH A SLOW LOOSE OF COOLANT. EVERY WEEK OR SO WOULD HAVE TO ADD TO THE OVERFLOW, BUT NEVER SAW A LEAK. WAS OVER-HEATING TOO. EVENTUALLY IT WOULD HAVE A TICKING FROM THE ENGINE AREA WHEN STARTING CAR. IT WASN'T ALL THE TIME THOUGH. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS OIL ON MY DRIVEWAY AND THE OIL WAS ABOUT A 1/2 QUART LOW. CHECKED AGAIN IN COUPLE DAYS AND NEEDED TO ADD A QUART BECAUSE LIGHT CAME ON. TWO DAYS LATER LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE GASKET NEEDED REPLACING IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BECAUSE COOLANT MIXED WITH OIL. ALSO NEEDED COOLANT FLUSH, AND OIL CHANGE AND ANOTHER GASKET. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS LOTS OF SLUDGE IN ENGINE AND COULD CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE. THE CAR HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT AND IT COST ME OVER $1300 TO REPAIR. WHAT A SHOCK TO THE POCKET BOOK. *NM

THE CAR STARTING SMELLING LIKE ANTI-FREEZE AND THEN A BIG PUDDLE APPEARED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE ONLY THING WE DID WAS DRIVE FROM NAMPA, ID TO BILLINGS, MT, WHICH WE HAVE DONE FOUR TIMES BEFORE. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE HEATER CORE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT RIGHT NOW AS OF JULY 28TH, 2006. IN NOVEMEBER OF 2003, THREE MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR, THE HEATER CORE WAS REPLACED AT 31,000 BY THE LITHIA DEALERSHIP IN HELENA, MT. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS ALSO REPLACED IN MAY 2006 BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING AND MAKING A TICKING NOISE. *JB

THE IGNITION WAS TURNED ON RIGHT AFTER, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE STALLED AFTER FIVE MINUTES WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. IGNITION - KEY WOULD NOT TURN. UNABLE TO MOVE CAR. WARM, SUNNY DAY AT A LOCAL STORE PARKING LOT. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. CAUSE: FROZEN LOCK CYLINDER. DEALERSHIP HAD CAR FOR TWO (2) DAYS TO ORDER PART, REPROGRAM AND REPLACED. SAFETY WAS A ISSUE. COST TO REPLACE WAS $600. *JB
SINCE JUNE 2006, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE OF MY CHEVROLET IMPALA, 2003 (3.4L; 72,000 MILES) HAVE BEEN DISPLAYING INCORRECTLY THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE GAS TANK. THE FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN SHOWING FULL DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE LESS THAN HALF TANK OF GAS. I HAVE BEEN USING THE TRIP ODOMETER TO GUIDE ME IN MY FUEL CONSUMPTION ESPECIALLY DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY WHEN I MADE LONG TRIP. CLUNKING NOISE IN FRONT END ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE IN A TURN. ALSO COULD FEEL A "THUMP" THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL AT SAME TIME. WE ARE STATIONED IN GERMANY IN THE AIR FORCE. TOOK IT TO THE OPEL DEALER (CHEVY EQUIV. IN GERMANY) AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. AFTER $300 AND A LONG TIME WAITING FOR THE PART, IT WAS REPLACED AND HASN'T GIVEN US A PROBLEM SINCE. ALSO HAVE HAD MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR "EATING" BRAKES AND ROTORS. REMINDS ME EXACTLY OF MY BUICK REGAL I HAD WITH THE SAME BRAKE ISSUES. AFTER I SOLD THE REGAL, I WAS SENT INFO ON A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST GMC FOR THE SAME BRAKE ISSUES. HAD TO HAVE UPPER AND LOWER MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED ON 2003 IMPALA. SOUND OF WATER WITHIN THE DASH. TSB ON SAME ISSUE BACK IN 2000 GM IS AWARE OF THIS WHY AREN'T OWNERS BEING HELPED WITH FAULTY GASKETS. TBS #03034 NHTSA #10003430. WHY ARE WE IN A POSITION TO DAMAGE AN ENGINE OR WORSE AND GM HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY IN SUCH A CRUCIAL COMPONET. ITS AFFECTED EVERY MODEL YEAR IMPALA 2000-2003 MANY TBS'S LISTED EACH YEAR. THEY REPAIRED MY IMPALA AT FULL COST TO(48K.) ME. I WOULD NOT PURCHASE A NEW CAR WITH THIS BEING A HAZARD TO ME AND MY FAMILY. I WAS JUST SURPRISED NO REACTION UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OUT OF ALIGNMENT CAUSING TIRES TO WEAR DOWN. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO DETERMINE ALL FOUR TIRE SHOULD BE REPLACED AT A COST. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED BECAUSE THE CONTACT DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT.
