GOT THIS CAR NEW 2003,AT 376 MILES HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS,HAD IT BACK TO DEALER 10 OR 11 TIMES FOR SAME PROBLEM,SO ABOUT EVERY 3-4 MONTHS I HAVE TO TURN ROTORS OR GET NEW ONE;S+BRAKE PADS,ALSO DASH LIGHTS ARE OUT,AS THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW,THIS IS THE WORST CAR I EVER OWNED ,AS I AM A RETIRED OTR TRUCK DRIVER ,SO I DONT MISUSE BRAKES. *TT

STRONG SMELL OF ANTI-FREEZE IN THE PASSENGER AREA OF 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. *LA
THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT HAS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF CONDENSATION INSIDE THE LENS. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM, BUT FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING WITH THREE PASSENGERS IN MY 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS AT 35 MPH THE ENGINE SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES, REQUIRING EMERGENCY MANEUVER TO BRING CAR TO A STOP BEFORE HITTING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE WAS NOT MADE AVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING TO A MEDICAL EMERGENCY, LATER THAT EVENING, THIS RECURRED AT 50 MPH (ENGINE SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING, LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING POWER REQUIRING EMERGENCY STOP IN CENTER MEDIAN 4 LANE HIGHWAY MERGE SITE). THIS HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY WITH THIS VEHICLE ON 7/4/03 AT 50 MPH WITH MY WIFE DRIVING ON THE VAN WYCK EXPRESSWAY. AT THAT TIME, AFTER 3 DAYS GM REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE CRANK-SHAFT SENSOR WHICH WAS REPLACED. I ADVISED GM THAT THERE WERE OTHER REPORTS TO NHTSA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET IMPALAS. I REQUESTED THAT AN INVESTIGATION AND POSSIBLE RECALL SHOULD BE INITIATED AND ASKED FOR A REFUND OR REPLACEMENT OF MY VEHICLE. THIS WAS DENIED "AS THERE WERE TOO FEW EPISODES TO WARRANT THIS ACTION" AND MY CAR" WAS REPAIRED PER WARRANTY OBLIGATION OF GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION". UNFORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING PLACING MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS IN DANGER. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT REQUIRING IMMEDIATE ACTION TO PREVENT INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE. THE CAR IS PRESENTLY AGAIN AT THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE CONTACTED GM CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WILL FULFILL THEIR WARRANTY OBLIGATIONS AND ATTEMPT TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE AGAIN. *JB
BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED PREMATURELY WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH. HE VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE PARKING, THE BUMPER SLID UNDER A TRAILER HITCH, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT THAT TIME, HOWEVER THEY DEPLOYED A MONTH LATER WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE COMPUTER CHIP DISPLAYED FRONT END COLLISION . *JB
WHEN DRIVING 35 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER LOST POWER STEERING, BUT MANGED TO PULL OVER. HAD NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC HAD NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND APPLYING THE BRAKES THERE WAS A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT A POSSIBLE CAUSE WAS WARPED BRAKE ROTORS. *AK THE DEALER REPLACED THE WARPED ROTORS. *JB THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHED BETWEEN 12 AND 15 THOUSAND MILES. *SCC
DURING NIGHT DRIVING, THE HEADLIGHTS ARE VERY DIM, EVEN WHEN USING THE HIGH BEAMS. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER. THE SERVICE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER WHAT DID SHE EXPECT SINCE SHE BOUGHT A CHEAP CAR. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER SEVERAL TIMES REGARDING THE PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. *AK THE CONSUMER COULD ONLY SEE APPROXIMATELY 2-2 1/2 CAR LENGTHS IN FRONT, WITH DIM LIGHTS. *SC *JB
THE TRACTION CONTROL IS CONSTANTLY ENGAGING EVEN UNDER IDEAL DRIVING SITUATIONS. IT ENGAGES WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS. ONCE ENGAGED DURING PULLING ONTO A ROAD AND DUE TO HOLDING CAR BACK (NO TRACTION) ALMOST HAD A COLLISION. ALSO WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED A NOISE IS HEARD AND A SLIGHT PUSH BACK OF THE BRAKE PEDAL OCCURS. NOISE IS POSSIBLY FROM THE ABS. SINCE THE TWO (TC AND ABS) ARE LINKED IT COULD BE DISRUPTING ONE OR THE OTHER. I HAVE SEARCHED SEVERAL FORUMS AND MANY CONSUMERS ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. MANY HAVE TRIED SEVERAL SOLUTIONS, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. WROTE A LETTER TO GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I AM VERY CONCERNED THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS DUE TO THIS ISSUE. ALSO NO KNOWN ROOT CAUSE OR EASY FIX AND CUST HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS TO FIX ISSUE AT DEALER YET ISSUE REMAINS. THIS SHOULD BE RESEARCHED AND RECALLED BEFORE ANYONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT. I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY IMPALA WHICH I BOUGHT NEW IN 2003 IT HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN DOING STRANGE THINGS ELECTRICALLY, IT LOCKS UP WON'T START, PASSLOCK/SYSTEM LIGHTS HAVE MESSAGES LIKE SECURITY, SERVICE VEHICLE SOON. INSTALLED NEW IGNITION SWITCH, BATTERY. HAD IT SCANNED AND NO PROBLEMS DETECTED. ALWAYS HAD A GM VEHICLE, IF THIS IS HOW THEY MAKE CARS AND DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS FOREIGN VEHICLES MIGHT BE THE ANSWER. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO VIBRATE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE DRENCHED IN BLUE. THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE VIBRATION RECURRED, THE DEALERSHIP TURNED THE REAR ROTORS AND SANDED DOWN THE REAR BRAKES BECAUSE THE WERE GLAZED. *JB
2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA (I BOUGHT IT NEW) PROBLEM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKING, I HEAR AND FEEL CLUNKING COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN . I ALSO FELT A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER 3 TIMES. EACH TIME THE PROBLEM WET AWAY FOR A MONTH OR SO BUT RETURNED. EACH TIME I DRIVE THE CAR I HOPE THE STEERING DOES NOT FAIL AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. NO MORE GENERAL MOTORS CARS FOR ME. I HAVE BOUGHT GM SINCE1969. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM CAR. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN FAILING WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF PURCHASE. TRANSMISSION WOULD SLAM AND JERK IN GEARS AND FINALLY BEGAN NOT SHIFTING OUT OF 1ST GEAR UNTIL 50 MPH. WAS FIXED AND THEN ONE WEEK LATER BEGAN FAILING AGAIN. THIS TIME CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 4TH GEAR BUT INSTEAD JUST SLIP GEAR AND REV ENGINE. TRANSMISSION FINALLY LOCKED INTO 3RD GEAR AND WOULD NOT DRIVE IN ANY OTHER GEAR. THIS ALL OCCURS WITHIN THE FIRST 2400 MILES AND 1 1/2 MONTH OF OWNERSHIP.*AK
COMPUTER PROBLEM 2003 CHEVY IMPALA 6 CYL FRONT WHEEL DRIVE AUTOMATIC 74000 MILES ---------------------------------------------------------------- THIS RECENTLY STARTED, THE TRACTION ON LIGHT AND THE ABS YELLOW LIGHTS ON DASH STAY ON. RARELY DO THEY GO OFF, ONLY A FEW TIMES. THE SQUARE INDICATOR LIGHT SAYS "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I START THE VEHICLE, STAYS ON FOR 1-2 MINUTES THEN GOES OFF. BUT THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND THE ABS LIGHT REMAINS ON. HOW CAN I RESET THIS OR WHAT TO NOT HAVE A TRIP TO THE EXPENSIVE AUTO REPAIR SHOP. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BRAKES TO OPERATE CORRECTLY, NO DELAYS OR BRAKE HESITATION WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IN USE. HELP ME OUT WITH A GOOD SOLUTION. WHILE DRIVING AT NEW YORK FREEWAY AT NORMAL SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING VEHICLE GOT SHUT OFF. CAUSING CONSUMER TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FROM A STOP ON A SMALL OR LARGE INCLINE THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS EXCESSIVELY AND ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION. *NLM RETURNED USPS, 2ND ATTEMPT MADE 05/21/03 FAILED. *LJ
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER'S FOOT SLIPPED OFF THE GAS PEDAL BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL WAS TOO SHORT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THERE WASN'T GOOD ARM ROOM FOR STEERING. THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE PEDAL. *SCC *JB
INFERIOR LOW GRADE "DESIGNED TO FAIL" ELECTRICAL SWITCHES IN CHEVROLET IMPALA'S YR 2000. SPECIFICALLY: HAZARD "FLASHER" SWITCH COMPROMISES "TURN SIGNALS" FORCING CONSUMER INTO DEALERSHIPS TO PAY EXORBIANT PREDATORY COSTS FOR REPAIR. $5 PART FOR A $190 COST TO REPAIR. ALL ELECTRICAL SWITCHES ARE INFERIOR FROM MFG. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. 3,000 MILES AFTER SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SHE HAD BRAKE FAILURE. ON APRIL 8, 2003, DEALER REPLACED REAR ROTORS, NOV. 19, 2003 FREED UP SLIDERS, MARCH 26, 2004 FULL ROTOR ASSEMBLY REPLACED IN FLORIDA, JUNE 7, 2005 COMPLETE BRAKE CHANGE. AUG. 16, 2005 RESURFACED BRAKES AND ROTORS, JAN. 16, 2006 REFACED REAR ROTORS, JUNE 30, 2006 REPLACED REAR ROTORS AND REFACED FRONT ROTORS, JAN. 10, 2007 RESURFACE WORK NEEDED TO BE DONE BUT DID NOT PERFORM REPAIRS, MAY 23, 2007 REPLACED ALL 4 ROTORS. THE CONTACT PAID FOR THE REPAIRS, MAY 22, 2008, REPLACED REAR PADS AND SERVICED CALIPERS. THE DEALER WILL NOT MAKE ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS AND FEEL AS THOUGH THEY HAVE DONE ALL THEY CAN TO REMEDY TO FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3259 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50295. UPDATED 7/3/08 *CN THE PASSENGER SEAT HEATER AND REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER WERE INOPERATIVE. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING. THE DEALER LUBED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE REAR STABILIZER SHAFT AND LINK WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 07/15/08. *JB
I PURCHASED MY CHEVY IMPALA 2003 BRAND NEW IN MARCH OF 2003. EVERY SINCE THEN WHEN I TURN ON MY HEADLAMPS, THEY TURN OFF AT RANDOM, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS ON A DARKENED ROAD AT NIGHT. EVERYTHING GOES OFF (INTERIOR, TAIL LIGHTS, ECT). *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE STEERING COLUMN SQUEALS AND KLUNKS. WHEN THE CONSUMER TURNS THE STEERING WHEEL IT KLUNKS. IT DID NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME,-PER THE CONSUMER. TTOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 11 TIMES BECAUSE IT KLUNKED. THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN TRYING TO HAVE THIS FIXED 2 YEARS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HEARD THE NOISE. WHEN THE CONSUMER TAKES THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND IT IS NOT MAKING THE NOISE, THE DEALER WON'T FIX IT. THEY HAVE PUT IN A NEW COLUMN TWICE. THE CONSUMER WAS A MONTH LATE ON FILING ON THE LEMON LAW. THE OWNER JUST DOES NOT WANT THE CAR. THE CAR IS A 2003 CHEVY IMPALA. *AKTHE OWNER HAS TALKED TO GM AND THEY WERE VERY RUDE TO THE CONSUMER.
2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA MOTOR WENT ON FIRE. *TR
ALL 4 ROTORS ON MY CAR HAVE GONE BAD. CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN OCT 2002, AND AT 8500-9000 MILES IN MARCH OF 03, I HAD EXTREME PULSATION IN STEERING DUE TO FRONT ROTORS BEING WARPED. DEALER TURNED ROTORS, AND THEN 10,000 MILES LATER NEEDED TURNED AGAIN, AND NOW AT 33,000 MILES DEALER IS TELLING ME TO BUY NEW ROTORS AND THAT THE BACK ROTORS ALSO NEED TO BE TURNED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 30 SOME YEARS AND NEVER HAD A CAR THAT NEEDED ROTORS TURNED SO SOON,, AND SO I AM SURE THERE IS FAULT WITH THE ROTORS THEY ARE PUTTING ON THE CAR. 2003 IMPALA. *LA
WHEN ON ANY GRADE OF INCLINE THE CAR WILL BEGIN TO ROLL BACKWARDS UNLESS GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED QUICKLY AND QUITE HARD. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN ME HITTING A CAR BEHIND ME WHILE WAITING FOR A RED LIGHT ON AN INCLINE WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES NOW AND I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS I BEGIN TO ACCELERATE OR THE ROLL BACK OCCURS. ALSO ATTEMPTING TO PARK AT MY DAUGHTERS SCHOOL WHERE THE PARKING SPOTS HAVE TO BE PULLED UP INTO, THE CAR ROLLS BACK RATHER QUICKLY AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT IT HAS SOME PROBLEMS ADVANCING IT'S GEARS IF THE ENGINE IS UNDER STRAIN. I'M VERY WORRIED THAT MY CAR ROLLING BACK WILL RESULT IN ACCIDENT.
$688 TO REPLACE THE UPPER ENGINE PLENUM DUE TO ANTI-FREEZE LEAK FROM ENGINE.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ANF AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN THE CAR BEGAN DOWNSHIFTING ROUGH. AS I INCREASED SPEED OUT OF THE EXIT THE CAR WAS "JERKING" AND SHIFTING VERY ROUGH. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. IT TOOK 2 WEEKS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY, WIRING HARNESS, AND SOLENOIDS IN THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR ONLY HAD 400 MILES ON IT

CHEVROLET IMPALA 2003: CAR WON'T START OR EVEN TURN OVER WHEN HOT. AFTER ENGINE COOL DOWN START AGAIN AS NORMAL AS NEW. IF I TURN THE ENGINE OFF AFTER DRIVING FEW MILES I SEE ON THE INFORMATION CENTRE THE PASSLOCK WARNING, RADIO IS DEAD, INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE DEAD, AND IF I TRY TO CRANK THE ENGINE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPEN. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING OK LET'S SAY THE NIGHT BEFORE, NEXT DAY IN THE MORNING IN A SUNNY DAY THE CAR GETS WARM WITH THE SUN JUST BY SEATING ON MY DRIVEWAY AND IF I TRY TO START THE ENGINE I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TO PUSH IT UNDER A TREE, OPEN HOOD AND DOORS LET IT SEATING ON THE SHADE FOR FEW MINUTES AND WHEN THE BODY IS COLD, THE CAR START NORMALLY. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY BECAUSE I CANT USE MY CAR DURING THE SUMMER (IT WON'T START), AND DURING SPRING, FALL, AND WINTER I HAVE TO LEAVE THE ENGINE RUNNING WHILE I DO MY SHOPPING AND OTHER STUFF. 2003 IMPALA NOT STARTING. LEAVING ME STRANDED FOR HOURS TILL IT DECIDES TO START. AFTER SEARCHING ON LINE FOR ENDLESS HOURS. TO SEE ITS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE. CONSUMER STATES ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND PULLING OUT IN THE ROAD. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. PH
WHEN ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 45+ MILES AN HOUR, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING. I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, DOWNSHIFT, AND APPLY THE BRAKES. I ALSO AT THE URGING OF 911 STAFF, APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE CAR AFTER ROUGHLY 5 MILES OF CONTINUED ACCELERATION EVENTUALLY STOPPED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM. THEY PROMPLTY TOLD US IT WAS THE FAULT OF OUR FLOOR MAT. THEY REPORTED THAT WE WOULD NEED TO PAY THE $2000.00 TO REPLACE THE BRAKES, ROTERS, AND CALIPERS. THE HEAD OF SERVICE SUGGESTED WE CALL OUR INSURANCE COMPANY TO HAVE THEM PAY FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE BRAKES, ETC. DT

DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. *AK THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNABLE TO MERGE INTO FREEWAY TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE PULLED HARD TO THE LEFT AND WOULD BECOME UNCONTROLLABLE. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINED. *SCC *JB
WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THERE WAS A BANGING NOISE IN THE GAS TANK. THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE WAS UNDETERMINED, ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP HAD SERVICED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. *JB THE BANGING SOUND HAD COME FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE IN GEAR OR WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. *SCC *JB
THERE WAS A BAD ODOR WITHIN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE ODOR DID NOT OCCUR WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON . THE ODOR MADE THE OCCUPANTS SICK. THE CAUSE AND LOCATION OF THE ODOR WAS UNKNOWN ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP SERVICED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE VIBRATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE ROTORS BEING TO THIN. *AK THE ODOR WAS CAUSED BY A BAD FAN MOTOR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART. THE BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEM CONTINUED. GM REFUSED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *SC *JB
THE CONSUMER HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO ACTIVATE THE HORN. *AK THE DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE HORN ASSEMBLY. *NM
WHILE DRIVING WITH CHILDREN BUCKLED IN CHILD SAFETY SEAT AND WITH SEAT BELTS ON THE CHILDREN WERE ABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS AND OPEN THEM WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.*AK
