FOUND A GASOLINE LEAK AT THE QUICK CONNECT FITTING WHERE THE FUEL LINE MEETS THE FUEL RAIL ON TOP REAR OF ENGINE. I BELIEVE ITS THE FUEL RETURN LINE. THE QUICK CONNECT FITTING IS LEAKING FUEL DOWN ONTO ENGINE AND COULD DRIP ONTO HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAUSING A FIRE. CAR WAS STATIONARY WHEN I NOTICED THE LEAK. I SMELLED GAS FIRST THEN TRACED THE SMELL TO THE LEAKING QUICK CONNECT FITTING. THIS MAY BE RELATED TO THE RECENT GM RECALL OF VALVE COVERS LEAKING OIL CAUSING THE FIRES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND SMELLED A FUEL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE, ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
WHILE LOADING ITEMS IN THE TRUNK I NOTICED A STRONG GAS SMELL. MY MECHANIC DID A "SMOKE TEST" AND COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. IT HAS CONTINUED TO BE A PROBLEM. OTHERS HAVE COMMENTED ON THE SMELL AND A FRIEND HAD THE SAME MODEL CAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND FINALLY TRADED IT IN. I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE FOR RECALLS. THE ONLY THING I FOUND WAS THAT ON SOME CARS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ADHESIVE BETWEEN THE LINING OF THE GAS TANK AND THE TANK. IT SAID YOU WOULD NEED THE GAS TANK SERIAL NUMBER TO CHECK IF IT WAS ONE OF THE ONES WITH THE PROBLEM. I CHECKED AT THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE ABOUT $300.00 JUST TO PULL THE GAS TANK TO CHECK FOR THE SERIAL NUMBER.I AM CONCERNED THAT ONE DAY IT MIGHT CATCH ON FIRE. I JUST KEEP HOPING IT WON'T BUT I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM
FUEL LEAKS FROM THE HOSE THAT CONNECTS TO THE FUEL INJECTOR PRESSURE REGULATOR ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA FROM TIME TO TIME WITH NO REGULAR SCHEDULE. I AM AFRAID THAT AT SOME TIME A FIRE COULD RESULT FROM THIS LEAKAGE. SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS AT START UP AND THEN AT OTHER TIMES FOR REASON AT ALL. IT IS A SMALL AMOUNT OF LEAKAGE. WHEN I DETECT THE SMELL,I STOP AND PUSH DOWN ON THE HOSE WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE PRESSURE REGULATOR AND IT SEEMS TO STOP THE SMELL AND THE LEAK. *TR

FUEL SYSTEM ,GASOLINE DELIVERY : FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR WAS LEAKING, ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA ,3.4 LITER ENGINE. THE CAR HAS 41000 MILES ON IT. THIS MAY BE THE SAME PROBLEM AS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 04V090000 WHICH INVOLVED A RECALL OF 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALAS WITH THE 3.8 LITER ENGINE FOR LEAKING FUEL REGULATOR. *NM
SINCE JUNE 2006, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE OF MY CHEVROLET IMPALA, 2003 (3.4L; 72,000 MILES) HAVE BEEN DISPLAYING INCORRECTLY THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE GAS TANK. THE FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN SHOWING FULL DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE LESS THAN HALF TANK OF GAS. I HAVE BEEN USING THE TRIP ODOMETER TO GUIDE ME IN MY FUEL CONSUMPTION ESPECIALLY DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY WHEN I MADE LONG TRIP. ARE THERE OTHER REPORTS REGARDING THE ERRATIC FUEL GAUGE OPERATION IN THIS YEAR MODEL OF CHEVROLET IMPALA 2003? *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE, SHE GOT OUT AND SMELLED GASOLINE. SHE THOUGHT IT WAS A DIFFERENT VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT. SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE. THEN THE SMELL WAS NOTICED IN THE GARAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP , AND THEY COULD NOT FIND CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE CHARCOAL FUEL PURGE CANISTER IN THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT BECAUSE IT COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. THE CONSUMER THEN CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY STATED THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER NOT TO PARK THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE BECAUSE OF THE HOT WATER HEATER. ALSO, STATED THAT IF IT OCCURRED AGAIN, SHE SHOULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER SO THEY COULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS GOING TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED AT A LOCAL MECHANIC, AT HER OWN EXPENSE. THIS OCCURRED ON JULY 18, 2005 ON A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FAIRWAY CHEVROLET FOR SERVICE AT 3100 EAST SAHARA AVENUE, LAS VEGAS NV 89104.*AK *JB
WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THERE WAS A BANGING NOISE IN THE GAS TANK. THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE WAS UNDETERMINED, ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP HAD SERVICED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. *JB THE BANGING SOUND HAD COME FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE IN GEAR OR WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. *SCC *JB
