WITH APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES ON 2005 IMPALA SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO FALSELY REPORT VEHICLE SPEED WHEN DRIVING FOR MORE THEN 3 HOURS. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES. STOPPING AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR
TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS STOP WORKING AFTER BEING USED A FEW TIMES. MAY START WORKING AGAIN AFTER CAR HAS BEEN TURNED OFF ,THEN ON . 2005 CHEVY IMPALA. *TR
ON MY GRANDFATHERS 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA THE GAUGE CLUSTER STOPS WORKING. IT FIRST STARTED WITH THE WATER TEMP GAUGE. AND NOW THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. ITS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW HOW FAST YOUR GOING. AND AFTER TYPING THE PROBLEM INTO GOOGLE.COM THEIR ARE OTHER OWNERS OF IMPALAS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR ONLY HAS 51K MILES ON IT. IM CURRENTLY LOOKING ONLINE FOR A REASONABLE GAUGE CLUSTER SO I CAN REPLACE IT. I FEEL A RECALL IS IN ORDER SINCE THIS ISN'T A LOCALIZED PROBLEM. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN MY 2005 CHEVY IMPALA EXPERIENCES PERIODIC MALFUNCTIONS. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL READ SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE ACTUAL SPEED OR WILL REMAIN AT ZERO. THE FUEL AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES ALSO READ INCORRECTLY. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THESE ARE COMMON COMPLAINTS FOR 2000 TO 2006 CHEVY VEHICLES YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS V6 3800 SERIES.THE VOLUME OF THE HORN WAS FLUCTUATING AFTER ABOUT 3 YEARS & NOW IT COULD HARDLY BE HEARD. 2005 CHEVY IMPALA OFTEN TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE SECURITY LIGHT ON THE DASH BLINKS, AND, AFTER I WAIT ABOUT 10 MINUTES, IT WILL START. UPON SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR A SOLUTION IT IS OBVIOUS THAT GM KNOWS THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR "PASS-LOCK" ANTI THEFT SYSTEM BUT WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT OR REPAIR IT FOR ANYONE. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE BATTERY AND FOUND NO OTHER PROBLEMS. SUGGESTS I TAKE IT TO GM DEALER. *TR

2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA PASSLOCK PROBLEM, WON'T START AND SECURITY LIGHT IS ON(PAGE 1 OF 4 IT IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INCREASED TO HOT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HEAD GASKET AND WATER PUMP THREE TIMES. IN ADDITION, THE ALTERNATOR AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. THE FAILURES CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
MY 2005 CHEVY IMPALA SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET, AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD WITH UNDER 75K MILES. SPEEDOMETER STEPPER MOTOR IS DEFECTIVE. NEEDS DEALERSHIP RECALL TO REPLACE SINCE SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
MY VEHICLE, A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA, HAS HAD AN ISSUE CONCERNING MY FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS, THE DIAGNOSTICS TEST HAD DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR WAS DAMAGED. I DID FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE THEY DISCOVERED I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME EXACT PART ON MARCH 12 OF 2007. WHEN I RETURNED TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, THEY ALSO MENTIONED ANOTHER ISSUE ABOUT MY VEHICLES STEERING. THIS ALSO SHOWED UP ON THE LIST OF RECALLS FOR MY MODEL/YEAR VEHICLE. WHEN I ASKED REGARDING THE ISSUE OF WHY MY CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL, THEY STATED THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT IN THE LIST OF CARS THEY FELT SHOULD BE RECALLED. I WAS CONCERNED AND WONDERING WHY WOULD MY VEHICLE NOT BE RECALLED ALSO WHEN THE SAME EXACT ISSUED OCCURRED ON MY VEHICLE AS WELL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THE TRANSMISSION, SPEED ODOMETER AND ANTILOCK BRAKE IS FAULTY. CONTACT STATED SHE HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTOR, PADS FOUR TIMES AND THE TRANSMISSION IS JERKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND CONTACT THE WAS TOLD SHE HAS TO PAY THE EXPENSES FOR THESE REPAIRS. THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES ON THE VEHICLE. THE VIN NUMBER IS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS INACCURATE READINGS. AS A CONSEQUENCE HE CANNOT DETERMINE THE SPEED HE'S DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS INFORMATION WAS INCLUDED IN THE LAW SUIT; THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. HE WAS THEN REFERRED TO THE DEALER, WHOM WILL CHARGE AN $100.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 67,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2005 IMPALA BOUGHT IN 96 W/25K MILES. AFTER 1 YEAR CAR HAD 37K MILES AND STARTED EXHIBITING CRAZY PERFORMANCE ON THE DISPLAY GAUGES. SOMETIMES THE GAS INDICATOR WOULD REFLECT AN EMPTY GAS TANK THOUGH IT WAS NEARLY FULL. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD REFLECT 35 MILES WHILE THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND OTHER SPEEDS WHEN IN MOTION. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD TACK WAY OVER TO THE RIGHT INDICATING EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES. I TRIED TO GET THIS FIXED BUT THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT AND COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED WHEN TAKEN TO THE SHOP. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS KNOWN FOR THESE ISSUES. NOW THAT I'VE HAD THE CAR A FEW MORE YEARS THE CRAZY MARKINGS ARE MORE FREQUENT. THE BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE BECAUSE I CAN NOT TELL WHEN I HAVE A REAL PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALER AND AFTER A NUMBER OF CALLS TO THE CORP OFFICE BY THE DEALER, GM WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS OTHER THAN CHARGE ME ALMOST $800. WHAT IRKS ME IS THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ON GM TRUCKS BUT NOT ON CARS. SHOULDN'T THAT BE A CLUE? I'LL GO BACK TO NISSAN AS SOON AS I CAN. *TR
STANDARD DRIVING TO 48000 MILES. RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING START TO MAKE EXCESSIVE NOISE. BEARING WAS REPLACED BEFORE FAILURE. OLD PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
2005 CHEVY IMPALA WHICH LEAKS GAS EVERY MOURNING WHEN THE CAR HAS SET OVERNIGHT. THE RECALL IS THE UNIVERSAL PRESSURE REGULATORS (UPR) WERE PRODUCED WITHOUT AN O'RING AND RETAINER, SO THIS CAUSE THE GAS TO LEAK. *TR
EXPERIENCED FUEL SMELL IN THE VEHICLE WHEN OPERATING THE BLOWER. NOTED FUEL REGULATOR VALVE LEAKS FUEL. STOP ENGINE ALLOW TO EVAPORATE AND WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM STOPPED LEAKING. VEHICLE NOW HAS 161000 MILES AND STOPPED LEAKING. LEAKS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GETS COOL OR COLD OUTDOORS. DEALER CANNOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
CHEVROLET SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY. IT WILL JUMP OR DROP AT ANY MOMENT AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SPEED YOU ARE ACTUALLY TRAVELING AT. THIS HAPPENS REGULARLY AND APPARENTLY IS A COMMON KNOWLEDGE PROBLEM WITH THESE GM CARS. *TR
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT AT ENGINE STARTUP, THE SMELL OF FUEL EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BOTH A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000. KMJ

SPEEDOMETER BEGAN NOT WORKING. NOW THE TACHOMETER & HEAT GAUGE DON'T WORK. AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE GEARS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REBUILT BECAUSE THEY'VE BIT THE DUST & I HAVE NO WAY TO TELL HOW FAST I'M GOING OR HOW HOT MY ENGINE MIGHT BE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
ON SATURDAY JULY 18, 2009 I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA ON HIGHWAY 10 IN TAWASSEN BRITISH COLUMBIA HEADING EAST BOUND. I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP LIGHT AND WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I HAD NOT STRUCK ANYTHING WITH THE VEHICLE, NOR HAD THE VEHICLE BEEN IN ANY PRIOR FRONTAL COLLISIONS. NO MECHANICAL REPAIRS HAVE EVER BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE, AND NO PARTS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED ASIDE FROM BASIC MAINTENANCE (BRAKES, ROTORS, OIL CHANGES, ETC.). LUCKILY, ME AND MY PASSENGERS (2) SUSTAINED NO MAJOR INJURIES (ONLY LIGHT MINOR) AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I AM FILING THIS IN AMERICA BECAUSE I AM AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND THE VEHICLE IS REGISTERED TO ME IN THE UNITED STATES. I HAVE FILED A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND WITH THE MANUFACTURER (GM, CHEVROLET). GM/CHEVROLET ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH JURISDICTION BETWEEN GM CANADA AND GM USA, AND HAVE YET TO INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE. I AM WRITING THIS TO HELP ME INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE AND POTENTIALLY SAVE LIVES. IN JULY, 2009, I NOTICED THAT MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE ON MY 2005 IMPALA WAS NOT WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD AFFECT MY MILEAGE. IT WAS A COST PROHIBITIVE ISSUE, SO I ELECTED JUST TO KEEP AN EYE ON MY RADIATOR AND COOLANT. IN SEPTEMBER, MY FUEL GAUGE QUIT WORKING, AND SINCE THAT TIME, I'VE HAD TO GAUGE WHEN FUEL WAS LOW BY CLOCKING MY MILEAGE. NOW, AS OF TODAY, MY SPEEDOMETER HAS FAILED, AND THIS IS A PROBLEM. I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING HOW FAST I'M GOING. I'VE CHECKED SEVERAL SITES ONLINE, AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE CHEVROLET IMPALAS, AND ONE THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH REGARD TO SPEED. DESPITE THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ON THE CLUSTER. HOW WOULD A PERSON GO ABOUT TRYING TO GET A RECALL ISSUED? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS EXHIBITING FAILURES BY INACCURATELY READING THE SPEED OF WHICH THE VEHICLE TRAVELED. IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN AN ACCURATE SPEED, HE WOULD HAVE TO UTILIZE THE CRUISE CONTROL MECHANISM. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT ONLY THE STEPPER MOTOR WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT AS OPPOSED TO THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. HE WAS ALSO CONCERNED WITH BEING UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE RATE OF SPEED IN WHICH HE WAS TRAVELING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I OPENED THE TRUNK OF MY VEHICLE 2005 CHEVY IMPALA, REACHED INSIDE TO GET SOMETHING THE SUSPENSION CYLINDERS THAT HOLDS THE TRUNK UP BROKE & CAME DOWN ON TOP OF ME. CAUSING A HEAD LACERATION & FILLETED MY FOREARM. SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE MADE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS IT WOULD HAVE KILLED A CHILD HAD I BEEN HOLDING ONE. THEY NEED TO MAKE THIS A SAFER PRODUCT. *TR

I OWN A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA AND FOR THE LAST YEAR MY SPEEDOMETER HAS FAILED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL JUMP WITHOUT WARNING LEADING TO UNSAFE TRAVELING CONDITIONS ESPECIALLY WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAYS. CYCLING THE IGNITION WILL TEMPORARILY FIX THE ISSUE BUT THIS HAS BECOME A HASSLE. WHEN I STARTED TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET I FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE. I ALSO FOUND WHERE THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT THAT FORCED THE REPAIR OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER VEHICLES FOR THE SAME MODEL YEAR RANGE. WHY DO WE AS CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY FOR AND FIX THE PROBLEM WHEN IT IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING? WHY DIDN'T THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ALERT THE NHTSA THAT THIS IS POTENTIALLY A BIGGER PROBLEM? DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR DEATHS LIKE THE TOYOTA RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE TAKES THIS SERIOUSLY? I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY IMPALA..MILEAGE ABOUT 83000. MY PROBLEM STARTED LAST YEAR WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER JUST FROZE. WHEN I GOT HOME AND SHUT THE CAR OFF IT STILL STAYED IN THE SAME POSITION. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS WENT OUT. THEN I WAS WONDERING WHY EVERYBODY WAS GOING SO SLOW (45MPH) ON MY SPEEDOMETER. SO I PASSED THEM. I HAD A GPS AND TURNED IT ON IT WAS RECORDING 75MPH. IT WAS 20 MPH OFF. *TR
2005 IMPALA, FAILED INSTRUMENT PANEL. LIKE THE OTHER 65+ COMPLAINTS, MY INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN FAILING AT 75,000 MILES. AT FIRST, COULD RESET WITH KEY TO ACC NUMEROUS TIMES, NO LONGER WORKS. UNPLUG BATTERY RESETS, BUT AT ANY TIME STARTS AGAIN. IT SEEMS ESPECIALLY BAD IN COLD WEATHER. NOW, AT 90,000 THE TEMP GAUGE IS GONE TOO, CONSTANTLY STRAIGHT DOWN, 400+ DEGREES, BUT VEHICLE NOT RUNNING HOT. AM STARTING TO FILL GAS TANK EVEN WHEN NOT NECESSARY, SHOULD BE THE NEXT GAUGE TO FAIL IN THE CLUSTER. I WAS SOLD A VEHICLE FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP THAT SUPPOSEDLY HAD A 100+ POINT INSPECTION INCLUDING SAFETY EQUIPMENT. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC, I FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAD ONLY 10% BRAKE PAD LEFT AND THE POWER STEERING WAS COMPROMISED. *TR
I PREVIOUSLY HAD MY 2004 PONTIAC GRAND AM'S PASSLOCK SYSTEM FOUL UP ON ME. I FOUND INFORMATION ABOUT IT ONLINE AND GOT IT STARTED AGAIN. NOW MY 2005 CHEVY IMPALA DID IT TODAY. THIS PASSLOCK SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE EACH TIME IT DOES THIS AND IT'S ALMOST A GUARANTEE IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. DRIVING TO WORK APPROX 06:30 AM. POWER STEERING WENT OUT, MANAGED TO TURN THE CAR TOWARDS DITCH TO AVOID ONCOMING VEHICLES. APPROX 45 MPH, TWO LANE FRONTAGE ROAD. THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN RATHER WEAVY ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG UNTIL THE RECALL FOR STEERING LINKAGE WAS POINTED OUT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000. HAD PROBLEMS WITH HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT WEATHER IT'S LOW BEAM OR HIGH BEAM MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE TURN SIGNAL/HIGH BEAM SWITCH AND THEN THAT ONE ONLY LASTED 3-4 MONTHS. THIS COULD REALLY POSE A DANGER HAS THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT COMPLETELY, THE ONLY THING I COULD DUE IS HOLD BACK ON LEVER TO KEEP HIGH BEAMS ACTIVATED. THE MARKER LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON. MY 2005 IMPALA THAT HAS 47,000 MILES ON IS NOLONGER HAS WORKING SPEEDOMETER,GAS GAUGE OR TEMP GAUGE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO I NOLONGER HAVE CORRECT INFORMATION ON THE SPEED THAT I'M DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. TUESDAY, 1/27/09, WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL COUNTRY ROAD TO WORK AT 6:15 AM, VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS AND OTHER EXTERIOR LIGHTS WENT DARK. DASHBOARD LIGHTS STAYED ON, BUT OTHER EXTERIOR LIGHTS WENT DARK FOR 8 TO 10 SECONDS. SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN MONDAY MORNING, 02/02/09. NO DIMMING OR WARNING, LIGHTS JUST WENT OFF AND I WAS DRIVING IN DARKNESS. 02/03/09 TOOK IMPALA TO GM DEALER TO RUN DIAGNOSTIC. THEY DETERMINED PROBLEM WITH THE MULTIFUNCTIONAL HIGH/LOW BEAM LEVER SWITCH (THIS UNIT ALSO HOUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, AND DIRECTIONAL LIGHT CONTROLS). EST FOR REPAIRS $735.00. 02/07/09 HAD THE UNIT REPLACED AT ANOTHER GARAGE FOR $435.00. I KEPT THE DEFECTIVE UNIT. HAVE SINCE DONE RESEARCH TO FIND OTHER PEOPLE REPORTING THIS SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING ON OTHER IMPALAS RANGING AT LEAST FROM MODEL YEARS 2001 THRU 2005. IN SOME CASES THE HEADLIGHTS STAYED ON, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO SWITCH THE HEADLIGHTS BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAM. I FEEL THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TO RELATE WHAT HAPPENED AS I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT DUE TO THE HIGH POTENTIAL FOR ACCIDENTS INVOLVING INJURY OR EVEN DEATH, THIS MULTIFUNCTIONAL LEVER SWITCH SHOULD BE "RECALLED". *TR
