BRAKES GET DIRT ON THEM AND START GRINDING AT THE ROTORS ESPECIALLY THE BACK BRAKES. *TR
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT I HAVE A 2008 CHEVY. IMPALA. MY CRUISE WAS SET AT 52 MPH AND I APPLIED MY BRAKE TO RELEASE CRUISE AND I APPLIED MY BRAKE AGAIN I SHOULD OF BEEN GOING AT LEAST 25 MPH. I HAD TO SLAM MY BRAKE AND TRY TO AVOID HITTING A VEHICLE WITH NO LIGHTS ON AND I HIT THEM. I COULDN'T TURN MY WHEELS OR STOP AND THE COP SAID I SLED 80 FT THAT IS AT LEAST 8 OF MY CAR LENGTHS IM CONFUSED I WAS NOT GOING OVER 52 THEN APPLIED BRAKES I WAS TOLD IT COULD BE MY CRUISE CONTROL GOT STUCK AND OR SPED UP TO BECAUSE I HAD MY BRAKE ON WHEN I HAD TO PUSH THEM HARD I NEED HELP WITH THIS I TRYING TO GET THIS INVESTIGATED . YEAH IM AT FOUGHT I REAR ENDED A VAN BUT I WAS NOT TRAVELING AT THAT SPEED PLEASE HELP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 35-40 MPH OR IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, IT IS DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, NOR PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 12/30/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED SINCE THE REPAIRS WERE DONE, THE VEHICLE TRACKS PROPERLY ON ICE. THE ALIGNMENT WAS OUT AND REAR CAMBER AND TOE WAS OUT OF SPECS. UPDATED 12/31/09. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER HIS 100 LBS WIFE IS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT DOES NOT REMAIN ILLUMINATED. THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN SHE IS SEATED IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT INSTEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,900 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
VEHICLE PURCHASED NEW AND NEVER DAMAGED. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, A "SERVICE AIR BAG" MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER AND THE CHIME SOUNDED (999 MILES ON THE ODOMETER). THE VEHICLE OWNER'S MANUAL STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO A DEALER IMMEDIATELY IF THE MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. INSPECTION BY THE SELLING DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED AND THE WIRING FOR AN AIRBAG SENSOR (TERMINAL "C") HAD TO BE REPAIRED. *TR
GM ADVERTISES THAT THE 3.9 LITER ENGINE IS SUPPOSED TO GET 28MPG AND WE CAN'T GET MORE THAN 25MPG IN EITHER OF OUR IMPALAS EQUIPPED WITH THIS ENGINE AND BOTH CARS HAVE OVER 10,000 MILES ON THEM WHICH ACCORDING TO THE DEALER MEANS THEY SHOULD BE BROKEN IN. I'VE TALKED TO GM TWICE ABOUT IT AND THEY BLAME THE EPA FOR THE ADVERTISED NUMBERS ON THE WINDOW STICKER SO IT'S NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND THE DEALER DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT THEY HAVE TOLD ME OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THAT ENGINE HAVE COMPLAINED AS WELL. WHO DOES THE TESTING ON THE CARS TO GET THE FUEL MILEAGE NUMBERS THAT ARE ON THE WINDOW STICKERS? I THOUGHT THE NEW NUMBERS FOR 2008 WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MORE ACCURATE THEN IN THE PAST. WE'VE HAD FOUR OTHER NEW IMPALAS (01,02,04,04) AND THEY ALL GOT THE FUEL MILEAGE ADVERTISED SO WHY DO THE 08'S WITH THE 3.9 DO SO POORLY? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT IS MANDATORY TO HAVE CHAINS ON THE VEHICLE TIRES IN OREGON. HE STATED THAT THE INSIDE FRONT END OF THE TIRE DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE TIRE AND STRUT FOR A CHAIN. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO PARK THE VEHICLE WHEN IT SNOWS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 580. UPDATED 01-10-08. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE GM REPRESENTATIVE WOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO CHANGE THE TIRES OR THE WHEEL SIZE TO ACCOMMODATE THE CHAINS. THE CONSUMER STATED HAVE TO GO OVER MOUNTAIN PASSES COVERED WITH SNOW IN THE WINTER. UPDATED 12/31/07 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH DOWNHILL, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND HESITATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE BRAKES ALSO MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE ROTORS. THE TECHNICIAN RESURFACED AND DEGLAZED THE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES FOR THE FAILURES. THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU MANDATED THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. THE DEFECT HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED AND IS AWAITING TO BE REPAIRED AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,732 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,006.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. DURING RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, WATER ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE DASHBOARD CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,115.
