POWER STEERING DIES WHEN THE VEHICLE GETS WET. DEALER IS NEVER AVAILABLE FOR AN APPOINTMENT WHEN IT HAPPENS. MY MECHANIC HAS REPLACED THE BELT AND CLEANED EVERYTHING. IT WORKS FOR A SHORT WHILE THEN STARTS AGAIN. IS ANY HELP AVAILABLE? *TR
DOOR LOCK PROBLEMS: FIRST THE DRIVER DOOR FAILED TO WORK. THEN THE RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR..(WHICH HAS TO BE MANUALLY OPENED AND CLOSED). NOW THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK IS UNDEPENDABLE. THE PROBLEM IS BECOMING A HAZARD TO DRIVING THE AUTOMOBILE IN THAT THE SAFETY OF THE INGRESS AND EGRESS OF THE PASSENGERS CANNOT BE GUARANTEED AND THIS CAN BECOME A DEFINITE HAZARD, ESPECIALLY IN TIMES OF AN ACCIDENT. *TR
*THE DATES AND MILEAGE IS ESTIMATED AS LISTED ABOVE* I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW IMPALA IN APRIL OF 2008. I WAS ADVISED AT MY FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 3000 MILES THAT MY TIRES NEEDED TO BE ROTATED BECAUSE THEY WERE WEARING DUE TO MILEAGE. I DID NOT DO THIS BECAUSE I COULD NOT BELIEVE A BRAND NEW CAR AT 3000 MILES NEEDED A TIRE ROTATION. I WAS ALSO STARTING TO NOTICE THAT THE BACK END WAS SLIDING AND FELT LIKE IT WAS "ROLLING", ESPECIALLY IN ICE AND SNOW. I WAS ADVISED AT MY SECOND OIL CHANGE (6000 MILES) THAT MY TIRES WERE ALMOST "SHOT" AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THIS WAS BECAUSE I HAD FAILED TO ROTATE MY TIRES. A FRIEND WHO IS A MASTER MECHANIC FELT THAT I NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT ON THE CAR. HE TOLD ME TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND HAVE EVERYTHING REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. IN MAY OF 2009, AT APPROXIMATE 6K-7K MILES, I TOOK THE CAR TO ART MOEHN. THEY ADVISED THAT I VOIDED MY TIRE WARRANTY BY NOT HAVING MY TIRES ROTATED. A MONTH LATER I HAD A BLOWOUT ON ONE OF MY TIRES. I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED, AND HAD AN ALIGNMENT DONE ON THE CAR. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I HAD A NEW SET OF TIRES PUT ON. IN THE NEXT TWO YEARS, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. BY 2011 AT ABOUT 50K MILES, I WAS ON MY THIRD SET OF TIRES AND HAD HAD MY CAR ALIGNED TWO TIMES. WE THEN FOUND OUT THAT GM HAD ISSUES WITH SOME OF THESE 2008 IMPALAS - WITH VERY SIMILAR STORIES OF WHAT I HAD BEEN THRU. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TO ASK FOR HELP WITH THIS CAR - REQUESTING THEY FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY INSISTED I HAVE YET ANOTHER ALIGNMENT AND ASSESSMENT "AT MY COST" AT THEIR SPECIFIED DEALER. IMAGINE MY FRUSTRATION WHEN THIS ALIGNMENT (LESS THAN 3 MOS FROM THE PREVIOUS ONE) YIELDED RESULTS THAT THE CAR WAS ALREADY OUT OF ALIGNMENT!!! GM OFFERED ME A $1000 GIFT CERT TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF ANOTHER NEW GM VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP. THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD & NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES SEVERE PROBLEM WITH TIRES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAS SPENT MORE THAN $588.54 ON WHEEL ALIGNMENT CHECKS AND NEW TIRES, NOT KNOWING ABOUT THE SPINDLE ROD PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER ENCOUNTERED SEVERE AND DANGEROUS UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. THE CONSUMER FINALLY REPLACED ALL THE TIRES. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL, THE BRAKES WOULD PULSATE ABNORMALLY. THE DEALER ROAD TESTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND BAD PULSATIONS IN HARD SPEED STOPS. BOTH FRONT ROTORS EXHIBITED SEVERE HEAT SPOTS AND WERE WARPED. THE BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED WITH HEAVY DUTY BRAKE PADS. THE VEHICLE WAS RELEASED TO THE OWNER BUT WITHIN 10,000 MILES THE BRAKES BEGAN TO EXHIBIT THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO DOWN SHIFT ON HILLS TO PREVENT THE VIBRATION IN THE BRAKES. NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,514 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,952. UPDATED 03/24/10 *BF THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE BRAKES WERE SAFE AND NO ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN. 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVER WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE LEFT THE VEHICLE RUNNING, IN PARK, WITH THE DOOR OPENED. HE WALKED APPROXIMATELY SIX STEPS AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, AND WHEN HE TURNED TO GO BACK TO THE VEHICLE, IT WAS IN MOTION, THE OPENED DOOR HIT THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE, WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE. *JB
THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE. I CAN'T REMEMBER IF I TOUCHED ANYTHING,BUT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE IN MOTION. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART WITH NO PROBLEMS. I THEN DROVE SLOWLY AND TURNED ON THE AIR; WHEN I CHANGED THE FLOW OF THE AIR TO FLOW FROM WITHIN THE CAR, IT MADE THE SCREECHING NOISE AND STALLED AGAIN. RESTARTED THE CAR, TURNED ON THE AIR AND IT STALLED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE AC COMPRESSOR HAD FAILED AND WAS TEARING UP THE ENGINE BELT, WHICH WOULD ALSO HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WITH PARTS AND LABOR, I WAS QUOTED $1200. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY SALES ROUTE AND OVER A FEW DAYS TIME, MY CAR WOULD HAVE THE ENGINE PICTURE LIT AND A MESSAGE OF REDUCED POWER WOULD APPEAR AND I COULD NOT DRIVE ANY FASTER THAN 50 AND MY FOOT WAS TO THE FLOORBOARD. THIS WAS VERY SCARY IN THAT IF YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY THE CARS BEHIND YOU DO NOT KNOW YOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM BEFORE YOU ARE ABLE TO EXIT OFF. EVEN STARTING FROM A STOP LIGHT IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET YOUR SPEED UP VERY FAST. THERE WERE A FEW TIMES WHERE THE CAR LOST TOTAL POWER AND I HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, IT STARTED AGAIN BUT STILL HAD THE ENGINE ICON LIT AND HE SAME MESSAGE APPEARED. I DID HAVE A PART REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE OF $200+ AND FOR A VERY SHORT TIME IT DID FIX THE PROBLEM BUT THEN VERY SHORTLY IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. I WAS LAID OFF MY JOB SO WAS NOT DOING THE ROUTE SALES ANY LONGER AND WAS USING THE CAR JUST FOR PERSONAL RUNNING SO DIDN'T PAY TO MUCH ATTENTION TO GETTING IT LOOKED AT AND MY WIFE HAD HER CAR TO USE FOR TRIPS. IT RECENTLY HAS BEEN TO WHERE THE LIGHT AND MESSAGE WILL NOT GO OFF AND IT IS CONSTANTLY IN THE REDUCED POWER MADE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND DUE TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THIS MUST BE TAKEN CARE OF. I DID TAKE IT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP THIS WEEK TO SEE IF I HAD MISSED A RECALL. THE MECHANIC WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND SAID THERE WAS A RECALL FOR TRUCKS NOT CARS AND HE DID NOT UNDERSTAND THAT. NOR DO WE. NOW IF YOU KNOW THIS IS A POTENTIAL AND IS VERY COMMON ON THESE CARS AS WE ARE TOLD, THEN IT NEEDS FIXED NOW. FIXING THIS, SINCE YOU KNOW THE SEVERITY AND POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WOULD SURE BE BETTER THAN A LAWSUIT I WOULD THINK. I AWAIT YOUR TIMELY RESPONSE. I WILL KICK THIS UP HIGHER BUT WANTED TO START HERE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACKWARDS BEFORE MOVING FORWARD WHEN IT IS PARKED ON AN INCLINE. WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL AT 5 MPH, THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE WENT FORWARD BEFORE MOVING BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT FEELS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 850. 4/01/09 *NJ UPDATED 04/09/09. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR FAILED TO LOCK AND COULD NOT BE OPENED AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR BOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
I OWN A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA SS, I BOUGHT THE CAR IN OCTOBER 2008. SINCE BUYING THE CAR, I HAVE HAD TO BUY 3 SETS OF BACK TIRES DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEARING ON THE TIRES. I HAVE HAD MY TIRES RE-ALIGNED EVERYTIME I HAVE HAD TO PUT NEW TIRES ON THE BACK, YET THEY CONTINUE TO WEAR OUT EXTREMELY FAST. THE FIRST SET OF TIRES I HAD TO PUT ON THE CAR WAS IN MARCH 2009, THEN AGAIN IN MAY 2010 (OF WHICH I NEEDED NEW BACK TIRES PRIOR TO THEN BUT COULD NOT AFFORD TO BUY THEM UNTIL THAT TIME), THEN I HAD TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN DECEMBER 2010. I AM NOW ON MY 3RD SET OF BACK TIRES, AND AM NEEDING TO REPLACE THEM YET AGAIN. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY LEARNED THAT THERE IS A LAW SUIT CURRENTLY FILED AGAINST GM, STATING THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE REAR ALIGNMENT SPENDLE CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEARING ON THE REAR TIRES. PER THE NEWS REPORST ON THE LAW SUIT, IT IS REQUESTED TO BECOME A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AS GM ISSUED A LETTER FOR THE POLICE IMPALA'S TO BE REPAIRED AND FOR THE OWNERS TO BE REIMBURSED FOR ANY TIRES BOUGHT, HOWEVER THEY NEGLECTED TO INFORM THE PUBLIC WHO OWN 2007 & 2008 IMPALA'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TT
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH THE CARS SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND SO DOES THE ABS BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT. THE CAR THEN REDUCES POWER TO NO MORE THEN 35-40 MPH AND THAT'S WITH THE GAS PEDAL FLOORED. IT HAS HAPPENED SINCE NEW. I HAVE CHANGED OUT THE HARNESS, AND WHEEL HUB AND IT STILL HAPPENS, SOMETIMES IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS LIKE WHILE DRIVING ON A HWY WITH A TRUCK BEHIND YOU AND THE CAR GOES FROM 60 MPH TO 40 MPH IN A HEART BEAT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID ITS A COMMON ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH GM CARS IN 2006-2009. THE ONLY PART LEFT TO CHANGE WOULD BE THE COMPUTER MODULATOR, HOWEVER TALKING TO OTHER GM OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HELP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD TO REPAIR THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT EXCESSIVELY DUE TO THE REAR SPINDLE. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE TO MOVE. THE CONTACT REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES AT 17,000 IN SEPTEMBER 2009. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRES HAD WORN, AND THAT THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT COULD WEAR EASILY AS WELL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000. WHEN I TURN MY WHEEL OF MY CAR IT FEELS AS IF ITS KNOCKING. *TR
FEEL VIBRATION FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT FROM THE FRONT OR BACK, I FEEL THE VIBRATION AT 25 + MPH. I HAVE A 2009 IMPALA LT. *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS DECEMBER I RENTED VEHICLES FROM BOTH ALAMO AND ENTERPRISE IN BOSTON, MA AND MINNEAPOLIS, MN RESPECTIVELY AT AIRPORT LOCATIONS. ON BOTH OCCASIONS I RENTED A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS. IN BOSTON THE WIPER PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE, AND IN MINNEAPOLIS THE ABS SYSTEM WAS EITHER NOT INCLUDED OR NON-OPERATING. IN SUNNY WEATHER, NO ONE WOULD HAVE NOTICED EITHER PROBLEM. BUT WHAT I DID NOTICE IS. ON BOTH CARS THE SAFETY BELTS FOR THE DRIVER, PASSENGER AND REAR PASSENGERS DID NOT TENSION PROPERLY DURING LOW SPEED BRAKING, AND MEDIUM SPEED EMERGENCY BRAKING, WHEREBY OCCUPANTS WHERE THROWN FORWARD INTO WHATEVER WAS IN FRONT OF THEM. IN MY CASE IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN A FEW TIMES, AND WITH OTHERS SEATS, AND/OR DASHBOARD. I THINK THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS PROBLEM, AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. BOTH WERE LS MODELS, THOUGH THEY VARIED INSIDE AS TO THE CONTROLS ON THE CENTER CONSOLE. *TR
DURING ANY DAMP, WET OR SNOWY ROADWAY CONDITIONS, MY 2008 CHEVY IMPALA SS HANDLES DANGEROUSLY POOR. THIS OCCURS EVEN IF THE CAR IS PUT INTO NEUTRAL DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE REAR-END KEEPS WANTING TO GO SIDEWAYS. I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY/GM CERTIFIED DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH IT. *TR
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH UNUSUAL WEAR AND/OR BLOWOUTS ON THE TIRES OF MY 2008 CHEVY IMPALA. I FIRST STARTED HAVING ISSUE WITH TIRES IN DEC 2008 AND STILL CONTINUE TIL THIS DAY. WHEN I QUESTIONED IF THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY IT WAS THE VEHICLE AND NOT THE TIRES, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP IN 2010, IT WAS FAULTY 'FACTORY INSTALLED' TIRES. I HAVE REPLACED MORE THAN ONCE ALL THE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE. NOW I FIND OUT THAT GM HAS RECALLED POLICE ISSUE 2008 IMPALAS BUT NOT THOSE FOR THE EVERYDAY CONSUMER. *KB
WHENEVER THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW APPROX 20 DEGREES F AND THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OVERNIGHT, THE FACTORY REMOTE STARTER AND THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS DON'T FUNCTION UNLESS I HOLD THE TRANSMITTER DIRECTLY ABOVE THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. IN WARMER WEATHER, THE SYSTEM WORKS FROM DISTANCES GREATER THAN 50 FEET. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM ALREADY AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THUS FAR, THE 2 TRANSMITTERS AND THE RECEIVER HAVE BEEN REPLACED. *TR
I RENTED A CAR AND IT WAS A CHEVY IMPALA WHERE I COULD NOT TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS, SEPTEMBER IN PHOENIX. I DID A AAA DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE TODAY IN NY AND LEARNED THAT THE PUSH IS TO CONVINCE EVERYONE THEY ARE SAFER IN BROAD DAYLIGHT IF ONLY THEY'D TURN THEIR HEADLIGHTS ON -- AND THAT THIS IS BEING PROMOTED FOR LEGISLATION. IT IS INFURIATING NOT TO BE ABLE TO TURN OFF HEADLIGHTS IN PLACES WHERE IT IS RUDE TO KEEP THEM ON -- WAITING IN A PARKING LOT, WATCHING THE VIEW WITH THE HEATER ON, MY DRIVEWAY WHILE YOU'RE PARKED AND TALKING. I AM ANGRILY OPPOSED TO THE NOTION THAT I SHOULD EVER BY LAW BE REQUIRED TO KEEP HEADLIGHTS ON ALL DAY -- AND I AM DISTURBED BY THE NOTION THAT ONE DAY I MAY NEED TO BUY A CAR WHERE THERE IS NO LONGER THE OPTION TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS OFF. THE CONSTANT HEADLIGHTS IDEA WAS A CUTE SAFETY PROMOTION THING, BUT IT IS PREPOSTEROUS AND IGNORANT AS EITHER A LAW OR A MANUFACTURING REQUIREMENT. I PERSONALLY AM AGGRAVATED BY THE EXCESSIVE LIGHTS AND LIGHTING ON ROADS AND ROADSIGNS AND OVER-POWERED HEADLIGHTS ON CARS AND ROOF-LEVEL HEADLIGHTS ON SUVS -- I AM RELIEVED THAT THIS AGGRAVATION AND DANGEROUS DISTRACTION GOES AWAY WITH ITS NECESSITY AT DAWN. I DON'T EVER WANT TO GET STUCK WITH ANOTHER CAR WHERE I CANNOT TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS: IT'S RUDE, IT'S PERCEIVED AS AN INVASION OF PRIVACY, IT'S PERCEIVED AS AN ACT OF AGGRESSION, IT BLINDS PEOPLE WITH GLARE AND A SPOTLIGHT EFFECT AND IT IS UNNECESSARY UNLESS VISIBILITY IS COMPROMISED AND YOU ARE ACTUALLY DRIVING. I'M COMPLAINING ABOUT THE AAA DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE PUSH FOR CONSTANT HEADLIGHTS WHICH I SEE AS AGGRAVATING LIGHT POLLUTION AND WASTE OF ENERGY AND RESOURCES; AND I'M COMPLAINING THAT CHEVROLET CAN PUT A CAR INTO PRODUCTION WITHOUT THE OPTION TO TURN OFF IT'S HEADLIGHTS. ADDITIONALLY, I SHOULD COMPLAIN THAT THE SUPER-BRIGHT LUXURY CAR AND GIANT SUV HEADLIGHTS BOTH CREATE HAZARDS FOR ME WHILE DRIVING. I DON'T WEAR GLASSES AND DON'T HAVE VISION PROBLEMS - COMMON SENSE, AGE 40. *TR
VEHICLES REAR END FELT VERY LOOSE AS IF DIDN'T HAVE CONTROL OF THE CAR. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED. REAR TIRES HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR ON INNER EDGE. INSPECTED SUSPENSION AND FOUND ALIGNMENT OUT OF GM SPECS. PERFORMED WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND NEW TIRES PUT ON. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 60,000 MILES AND IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. REAR END IS WOBBLY AND TIRES ARE WORN.(DEC.2012). *TR
AT 12K MILES INSIDE OF REAR TIRES WERE WORN SMOOTH. CHEVROLET ONLY ACKNOWLEDGES THIS ON THE 2007-2008 IMPALA POLICE CARS. MY VEHICLE IS A 2008 IMPALA LTZ AND IT HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. *TR
MY IMPALA WILL COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND LOCK UP EVERYTIME IT RAINS. I CAN BE DRIVING 5 MPH THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND WATER FILM ON THE PAVEMENT AND MY IMPALA WILL SHAKE, LOCK UP AND SHUT DOWN. I WAS LEAVING MY CHURCH PARKING LOT TO TURN RIGHT ONTO ROAD, MY IMPALA SHUT DOWN AND DRIFTED STRAIGHT ACROSS THE STREET ALMOST LANDING IN THE DITCH. THANK GOD THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT HAS HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING 35 AND CAR SHUT DOWN. IT IS VERY TERRIFYING TO DRIVE A CAR THAT SHUTS DOWN AND HAVE NO CONTROL OVER. I GOT THIS 2008 IMPALA IN NOV.2007. IT HAS A VIBRATION THAT STARTS ABOUT 37MPH THROUGH 47MPH. AND AT 75MPH IT IS WORST. THE DEALER REBALANCED THE TIRES, I WENT BACK AND THE TIRES WERE REBALANCED AGAIN. SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY ALL HAVE THIS VIBRATION. I CALLED CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION,TALKED TO 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE,THE LAST PERSON SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE TIRES,AND IT WAS NORMAL OF THAT CAR. THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR ANY CAR. THIS CAR 2,300 MILES ON IT. I WANT THIS FIXED,AND I'M STUCK WITH IT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE WEARING PREMATURELY. THE FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AT 5,000 MILES AND AGAIN AT 18,000 MILES. THE RECOMMENDED TIRE PRESSURE WAS 30 BUT THE DEALER RECOMMENDED 35, WHICH THE CONTACT BELIEVED WAS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IT WAS OUTSIDE OF THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE WHEN CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING INDICATOR CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. WHEN ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL. THIS HAPPENS 1-2 TIMES A WEEK. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT I AM LEFT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WITH A SUDDENLY INOPERATIVE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD A STALL OUT WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. I HAVE HAD A STALL OUT WHILE MERGING ONTO A FREEWAY!! MOST RECENTLY I HAD A STALL OUT THAT REQUIRED IMMEDIATE RECOVERY AND EVASIVE ACTION WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN WHICH RESULTED IN A FLAT TIRE. I OWN A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA THAT TAKE E85 FUEL. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, I'VE FILLED UP WITH E85 AND DRIVEN OUT THE ENTIRE TANK OF E85 FUEL, THEN SWITCHED BACK TO 87 OCTANE. WITH DRIVING 10 - 20 MILES, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I'M DIRECTED BY MY ONSTAR SERVICE TO REPORT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME ON BOTH OCCASIONS, THAT MY FUEL SYSTEM DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE CHANGE IN ALCOHOL LEVELS BETWEEN THE E85 AND 87 OCTANE; THE REASON FOR THE ALERT. THE FUEL SYSTEM IS NOT ABLE TO TELL THAT I'VE SWITCHED FROM E85 TO 87 AND REPORTS A FAILURE IN THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. THIS CAUSE MY REMOTE START TO NOT WORK. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW IMPALA, YEAR 2008. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10K MILES I EXPERIENCED A VIBRATION IN THE REAR WHEN BRAKING. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO RADLEY CHEVROLET IN FREDERICKSBURG, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND IT WAS MY FAULT AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. THEY SAID THAT THE LUG NUT TORQUE WAS NOT CORRECT AND UNEVEN. I NEVER TOUCHED THE LUG NUTS OR ROTATED THE TIRES AS THE TORQUE ISSUE WAS REAR ONLY AND TREAD WEAR PROVED THERE HAD BEEN NO ROTATION. I WENT TO CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO STATED THE RADLEY SERVICE MANAGER WAS SUCH A GREAT GUY AND HE BELIEVED THE SERVICE MANAGER. WHEN I EXPLAINED THAT THE TREAD WEAR PROVED THE TIRES WERE NOT ROTATED HE THEN TOLD ME THAT NOT ROTATING THE TIRES WAS A MAINTENANCE VIOLATION ALSO. I ASKED HIM THAT NOW YOU ARE CLAIMING THE UNEVEN TORQUE WAS DUE TO ME NOT ROTATING THE TIRES. I AM FRUSTRATED AS I AM RIGHT AND NEVER TOUCHED THOSE TIRES OR NUTS. GM ADVERTISES THAT MILEAGE FOR AVERAGE HIGHWAY DRIVING IS 28 MPG. THE CAR DOES NOT MEET OR EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS STANDARD. I HAVE TESTED MILEAGE WITH 100% HIGHWAY DRIVING AND THE MAX MPG IS 23. WITH SOME MINIMAL OFF HIGHWAY DRIVING (TO AND FROM HIGHWAY) THE MPG AVERAGES 21 TO 22. OFF HIGHWAY MPG AVERAGES 19. MY INVESTIGATIONS HAVE FOUND THAT GM HAS CHANGED THE FINAL DRIVE RATIO. MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED THE CHEVY IMPALA TO BE OUR FIRST VEHICLE TOGETHER AFTER GETTING MARRIED. BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW ONLY 102 MILES ON IT BEFORE WE DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. DEALER SAID THEY CHECKED THE BELTS AND THE FLUID ALL WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER A FEW OTHER TIMES OF THE POWER STEERING FAILING TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY TOO COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE PS. SO, AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS BACK TO DEALER WE DECIDED TO JUST DEAL WITH IT. WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY NEXT COMPLAINT ABOUT THE 2008 IMPALA, AT JUST OVER 10,000 NOTED ABNORMAL WEAR ON TIRES, AND WIRES PEEKING THROUGH ON THE INSIDE. TOOK IT IN TO DEALER AND THEY ACCUSED US OF ABUSIVE DRIVING BEHAVIOR AND NEGLECT, WHICH WAS A NEW ON TO ME. ANYWAY, THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRES SITTING THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERS DEFECTS AND NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. SO, BY THIS TIME WE ARE STARTING TO REGRET THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE. WE HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES @ 98.00 EACH. ABOUT YEAR LATER AT 28,000 MILES BEGAN TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN. I OWN A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA AND I HAVE BEEN HEARING CLICKING NOISES IN THE STEERING SHAFT. TOLD GM THAT I WOULD MAKE PAYMENTS UNTIL JAN 2010 AND TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO MAKING OUR 2008 IMPALA SAFE TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY. THEY REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND THE CAR SAT AT DEALERS UNTIL MAY 2010 WHEN A COLLECTION COMPANY CALLED MY HOME AND I TOLD THEM THE STORY. THEY ASKED WHERE THE CAR WAS AND I TOLD THEM. THEY PUT ME ON HOLD AND CALLED THE DEALER TO CONFIRM. THAT DAY THEY WENT AND PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND STARTED SENDING COLLECTION NOTICES. I TOLD THEM CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THEY SOLD AT AUCTION AND SENT ME TO A COLLECTION AGENCY FOR THE BALANCE OF $9700. THE CAR RESOLD TO AN UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMER IN NH. GM IS STILL TRYING TO COLLECT THE BALANCE AND HAS OFFERED A COMPROMISE $4800. THESE VEHICLES HAVE KILLED UNSUSPECTING CONSUMERS BUT DOCUMENTATION DOES NOT EXIST?? I AM SURE IF A STUDY WAS DONE ON ALL HIGHWAY /ACCIDENTS/DEATHS CONNECTED TO 2007 & 2008 IMPALAS, REAR TIRE WEAR WOULD BE WELL REPRESENTED. I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A LOW AREA IN THE STREET THAT HAD A PUDDLE OF WATER TO DRIVE THROUGH. I WAS GOING TO TURN RIGHT AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN AND THEN ALL AT ONCE IT DID TURN. I DID NOT HAVE ANY MORE WATER TO RUN THROUGH UNTIL ABOUT A MONTH LATER IN A HARD RAIN AND IT DID IT AGAIN. THIS WAS ALSO WHEN I WANTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN LAKELAND FL. I CONTACTED BILL HEARD CHEVROLET IN PLANT CITY FL AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT. THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID THEY COULD NOT MAKE IT DO THAT BUT THEY ORDERED PARTS ( A NEW BELT) AND INSTALLED A FEW DAYS LATER. ANOTHER RAIN STORM AND IT DID THE SAME THING ONLY THIS TIME THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ALL COME ON FOR ABOUT A 1/2 MINUTE. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID BRING IT BACK IN A THEY WOULD CHECK OUT AND REPLACE THE TENSIONER. I WAS DRIVING BACK TO MICHIGAN AND I WAS AT THE GEORGIA AND TENNESSEE STATE LINE IN A RAINSTORM AND IT LOCKED UP AGAIN. I CONTACTED CLIFF ANSCHUETZ IN ALPENA MI AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEM. THEY CHECKED IT OUT, PUT WATER ON THE BELT BUT SAID THEY COULD NOT MAKE IT HAPPEN. ANOTHER SERVICE REP SAID HE WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND PUT ON A NEW BELT AND TENSIONER AND THEY DID. THE BELT ALWAYS SQUEALS WHEN YOU FIRST START UP IN THE MORNING. IT STILL DOES THAT AND I HAVE NO DOUBT THE POWER STEERING WILL LOCK UP WHEN IT RAINS. OUR COMPANY OWNS A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA THAT WILL SHUT OFF FOR NO REASON. SOMETIMES, AFTER THE DRIVER PUTS THE CAR INTO 'DRIVE' OR 'REVERSE' FROM PARK THE ENGINE RPMS SURGE, THE RADIO GETS LOUDER AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF. IT HAS SURGED AND THEN DIED WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 50+ MILES PER HOUR. IT HAS DIED WHILE IN DRIVE BUT STOPPED A STOP LIGHT/SIGN. THE DRIVER HAS TO PUT THE CAR BACK INTO PARK AND THE CAR STARTS. THE ENGINE IS TO DROP DOWN FROM A 8CYCL TO A 6CYCL WHEN IT IS IN OVERDRIVE (60+MPH). (THIS IS CALLED 'ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.) MY ENGINE WOULD NOT DUE THAT. I TOOK IT TO SEVERAL DEALERS BUT THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. DEALER SAID "IT WASN'T THEIR FAULT. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM AN AUCTION". I FEEL THEIR WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. DEALER INSPECTION CHECKLIST WAS DATED 3/26/2008. THE CAR WAS A RENTAL VEHICLE PRIOR TO ME PURCHASING IT AS A USED VEHICLE. THE ODOMETER READING WAS 12410 ON 5/17/2008. GM ISSUED A LETTER TO 2007 AND 2008 IMPALA POLICE VEHICLE OWNERS CONCERNING A CONDITION THAT LEADS TO REAR WHEEL MISALIGNMENT, RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE WEAR TO THE INBOARD SIDE OF THE TIRES. MY 2008 IMPALA SS IS EXHIBITS THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT GM WILL ONLY FIX POLICE VEHICLES. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE PROBLEM EFFECTS MORE THAT JUST THE POLICE VEHICLES BECAUSE THE REAR SUSPENSIONS AND SETUPS ARE IDENTICAL. DEAR SIR OR MADAM, THIS PAST WEEK WE COMPLETED A PURCHASE OF A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA FORM A LOCAL DEALER IN ARNOLD, MISSOURI. IT IS A MODEL LT-1. AFTER WE GOT HOME I STARTED TO READ THE OWNERS MANUAL AND EXAMINE THE CAR. I EVENTUALLY NOTICED THAT THE TRUNK LID HAD NO KEY HOLE. I CHECKED AN ABBREVIATED MANUAL WE WERE GIVEN. IT SAID I WAS TO PULL THE REAR SEAT BACK DOWN TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE TRUNK IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. THEY DO NOT PULL DOWN IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. I ASKED IF I HAD COME UP WITH A DEAD BATTERY AND A CHILD HAD CRAWLED INTO THE TRUNK THAT I WAS UNLOADING AND CLOSED THE TRUNK. HOW WOULD I GET THE CHILD OUT. NO POWER, NO KEY LOCK, NO OTHER ACCESS, UNABLE TO GET TO THE BATTERY TO JUMP START THE CAR. HOW DO I SAVE THIS CHILD? THE DEALER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THE ANSWER I GOT WAS I HAD OPENED A "CAN OF WORMS". SO WHAT DO I DO? *TR
AIR WHISTLING IN DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW OR DOOR. DEALER AND GM STATE THIS IS NORMAL THAT THERE IS NOTHING TO BE DONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR TIRE HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR DUE TO A FAULTY REAR SUSPENSION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHICH STATED, THE BEARINGS ON THE REAR AXLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE CONTACT HAD THE BEARINGS REPLACED AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT BUT THAT DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
I BOUGHT A 2008 CHEVY IMPALA, AND HAD TO BUY NEW TIRES 3 TIMES I CONSTANTLY COMPLAIN TO MY CHEVY DEALER THEY TOLD ME THEIR WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS . I FINALLY HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TRADE MY CAR ONLY AFTER IT WAS THREE YEARS OLD BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE TO BUY MY FORTH SET OF TIRES. I STILL HAVE MY RECEIPTS FROM ALL THE TIRES I BOUGHT I AM FURIOS I WANT TO BE PART OF THE CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST GM. *KB
