I KNOW THIS SHOULDNT BE A SAFETY ISSUE BUT ON MOST EVERY IMPALA THE AC DOES A CLICKING NOISE AND BLOWS HOT WHEN THE AC IS ON AND BLOWS COLD WHEN THE HEAT IS ON ( WHICH COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU CANT GET THE WINDOWS TO DEFROST) MOST PEOPLE I KNOW THEIR IMPALA DOES THIS. THIS SHOULD BE A FACTORY RECALL. WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY OUT THERE DOING THIS SAME ISSUE. THE CAR WILL NOT EVEN BE RUNNING AND THE TICKING NOISE WILL START IF YOU SHUT A CAR DOOR BESIDE IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE DOORS REMAINED LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE LOCKED OR OPENED MANUALLY, ONLY BY USING THE ELECTRONIC KEY REMOTE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FOR ALL FOUR DOORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,700.
I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY IMPALA LT WITH FLEX-FUEL. OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS I'VE NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE DASH BOARD (SPEEDOMETER AREA) WILL LOSE POWER AND ALL THE GAUGES WILL GO OUT AS IF THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. THE TURN SIGNALS DON'T FLASH ON THE DASH EITHER. BUT THE RADIO, INTERIOR/EXTERIOR LIGHTS AROUND THE CAR AND TURN SINGLES WILL ALL WORK FINE. ALSO THERE IS NO NOTICEABLE LOST IN PERFORMANCE. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS OR MINUTES THE PROBLEM WILL CORRECT ITSELF BUT IT MAY HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES IN A TRIP. ALSO I'M HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CAR TURNING OFF AS SOON AS I OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR AFTER STARTING THE CAR BY REMOTE START. SO I HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE CAR WILL TURN OVER AGAIN. *TR

I HAVE A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA I PURCHASED IN 2010 AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER IS ALSO COMING ON DURING THIS TIME. I HAVE READ ONLINE WHERE PEOPLE HAVE CRASHED FROM THIS I FEEL CHEVROLET NEEDS TO DO A RECALL. I LIVE IN ATLANTA AND IF MY CAR REDUCES SPEED WHILE I'M ON 285 THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE I VERY BAD CRASH. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE WHEEL CHAMBERS HAD FAILED CAUSING THE TIRES TO CUP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON TWICE UNDER WARRANTEE AS SOON AS WARRANTEE WAS OVER LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN {2 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTEE] WAS TOLD BY ALANTIC CHEVROLET THAT IT WOULD COST $180 PLUS PART AND LABOR TO FIX AIRBAG LIGHT.
AT ABOUT 50000 MILES THE REAR DOOR ACTUATOR BEGAN TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. WITHIN MONTHS IT DID NOT WORK AT ALL. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS EXPENSIVE TO FIX. AT ABOUT 66000 MILES THE SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT BEGAN TO COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. AT 68000 MILES I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN ACTUATOR. I REPLACED IT AT A COST OF $400. HE SAID I COULD REPLACE THE REAR DOOR ACTUATOR FOR ANOTHER $400 WHICH I ELECTED NOT TO DO. WHEN I SAW A NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT AN ELDERLY, DISABLED MAN TRAPPED IN HIS CHEVROLET IMPALA BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR, I REALIZED THAT THIS MIGHT BE A FREQUENT PROBLEM TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SEIZED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (TCS) - "SERVICE SYSTEM" WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED ( LIT UP ) ON DASH DISPLAY AS THE VEHICLE OPERATOR ATTEMPTED TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC, MAKING A LEFT TURN ONTO THE ROADWAY.THE WARNING MESSAGE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A GRINDING NOISE IN AREA OF THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL AND A SUDDEN DECREASE IN ENGINE POWER AND SELF SLOWING/BRAKING OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY, CAUSING OTHER VEHICLE OPERATORS ON THE ROADWAY TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO PREVENT A COLLISION. THE OWNER CONTACTED SEVERAL DEALERS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AS THE "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" WARNING ACTIVATED THREE TIMES PREVIOUSLY BUT WITHOUT POWER LOSS ON THOSE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE OWNER WAS ADVISED BY ALL THE DEALERS THAT THEY "CAN ONLY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT IS LIT AS IT IS A RANDOM PROBLEM." THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING DEFECT THAT IS WIDELY KNOWN BY IMPALA OWNERS AND CHEVROLET DEALERS FOR THE PAST SEVEN OR EIGHT YEARS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO EFFECT A SAFETY RECALL. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON THE FREEWAY THEN I NOTICED THAT MY CAR'S RPM STARTED BOUNCING UP AND DOWN FROM TWO AND A HALF TO TWO AND BACK AND FORTH AND THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON AND SAYS ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED AND AS WELL AS THE SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT TURNS ON. I SEE THAT I HAVE TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL A LOT MORE FURTHER DOWN FOR MY CAR TO STAY AT 60 MPH AND AFTER 2 MINUTES OF THIS MY CAR'S RPM DROPS TO 0. MY CAR TURNS OFF WITH THE CAR READING STARTER DISABLED AND SERVICE THROTTLE. I HAD TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER. THIS INCIDENT HAD MADE ME LATE FOR WORK AND THIS INCIDENT HAPPENS A LOT NOW. THIS CAN HAPPEN FROM ONCE EVERY TWO OR THREE WEEKS TO TWICE A WEEK. JUST RECENTLY MY CAR'S SEAT BELTS WILL BECOME UNDONE WITHOUT ANYONE CLICKING THE BUTTON FOR IT TO RELEASE. ALSO RECENTLY MY SERVICE AIRBAGS LIGHT HAS CAME ON. *TR
HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE ROTORS IN FEB. BRAKES ARE LOCKED UP NOW OCT 29 SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. *TR
THIS VEHICLE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES DUE TO THE WARPING OF THE ROTORS. AFTER RESEARCHING INFORMATION ON THE ROTORS TO A 2009 CHEVY IMPALA LT, I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT CONSTANTLY REPLACING THEM ON THIS VEHICLE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS MY BRAKES, BUT AFTER PAYING THAT "OVER-THE-HEAD PRICE AT THE DEALERSHIP" TO INSPECT FURTHER, MY SUSPICION LED ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT COULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH MY ROTORS; THE FINDINGS WERE THAT IT WAS INDEED MY ROTORS AND NOT JUST 1, BUT ALL FOUR. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS BECAUSE NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE ROTORS, DUE TO SOME POOR ENGINEERING ON CERTAIN COMPONENTS. I ALMOST GOT INTO 3+ ACCIDENTS TRYING TO APPLY MY BRAKES WHEN DRIVERS DECIDED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO ENGAGE IN POOR, LIFE-THREATENING JUDGMENTS. APPLYING THE BRAKES TO THESE EASILY WARPED ROTORS, EVEN WHEN COMING DOWN FROM A SPEED OF 50, CAUSES THE PEDAL, STEERING, AND ENTIRE CAR TO SHAKE AS IF THERE WAS AN EARTHQUAKE OR YOU ARE BASICALLY LIKE FRED FLINSTONE AND USING YOUR FEET ON THE ROADWAY AS OPPOSE TO YOUR ENGINE. *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED . WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GMC -BUICK DEALER WHO SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH SEATBELT ANCHOR ASSEMBLY AND HAS HAD A RECALL. THEY SAID THE CAR HAD BEEN IN FOR THE RECALL ID # 89931 AND HAD BEEN CHECKED. WE DID NOT OWN THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE ON 8/ 31/11 FROM A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP. WE HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE ONLY 6 WEEKS WHEN THE PROBLEM AROSE. WE DON'T KNOW IF PROBLEM WAS EVER SOLVED OR IF THE TROUBLE WAS JUST CLEARED. THE LIGHT WAS OFF WHEN WE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP THIS TIME. WE BELIEVE IF PROBLEM WAS PROPERLY REPAIRED ON THE RECALL THERE WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. THIS DEALER (YOUNG- BUICK GMC) OF OWOSSO, MI SAID THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS $190.79. WE DON'T THINK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR BECAUSE IT WAS A RECALL AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. EVIDENTLY THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS IT MUST OF NOT BEEN FIXED PROPERLY. *TR

WITH BRAKE APPLICATION THE VEHICLE VIBRATES, SHUDDERS, AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES HARD TO HOLD. CONDITION IS MOST EVIDENT ON DOWN HILL BRAKING. AFTER BRAKES COOL THE PROBLEM IS LESS NOTICEABLE. THE PROBLEM CAN THEN HAPPEN AT ANY GIVEN BRAKE APPLICATION, WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE IS HARD TO CONTROL IN THIS CONDITION AND THE DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS ARE STARTLED BY THE VIBRATIONS TAKING AWAY THE DRIVERS FOCUS ON DRIVING. *TR
SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2011 USED WITH 23,000 MILES ON I HAVE HAD TO HAVE TWO NEW RACKET PINION STEERING MOTORS/(UNITS) REPLACED AND IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN IT APPEARS A THIRD IS ON IT'S WAY.. THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. THIS IS A FLAW THAT COULD ALSO CAUSE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR

TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON 2 LANE ROAD, CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED THEN VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. LIGHTS AND RADIO WORKED BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES VEHICLE CRANKED AND STARTED AND WAS DRIVABLE. TOOK TO CHEVROLET DEALER WHO MADE REPAIRS BY REPLACING 24 TERMINALS. VERBALLY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON WIRES ON THIS 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH BARELY 60,000 MILES. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A MULTILANE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SHUTTING DOWN LIKE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
MY 09 IMPALA LTZ HAS ALREADY HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DUE TO A GOUGING AROUND THE ENTIRE DIAMETER OF THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. I CHECKED THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THERE WERE WIRES SHOWING ON THAT TIRE, AS WELL AS THE SAME GOUGING. THE REST OF THE TREAD WAS FINE ON THE FRONT TIRES. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AND THE CAR WAS ALIGNED. THIS PAST WEEKEND, JUST BEFORE MY WIFE LEFT IN THE CAR TO HEAD ON A 350 MILE TRIP, I HAPPENED TO NOTICE THAT, AGAIN, WIRES WERE SHOWING ON THESE TIRES, ALSO. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, I NOTICED THAT THESE TIRES ALSO HAD THE SAME GOUGING TO THEM. I CHECKED THE REAR TIRES AND THEY HAVE THE SAME GOUGING, ALTHOUGH NOT AS BAD AS THE FRONT. THE STRUT PLATE, ATTACHED TO THE STRUT JUST ABOVE THE TIRE, IS ABOUT A HALF OF AN INCH ABOVE THE TIRES. IT IS EASY TO SEE WHERE THE TIRES HAVE RUBBED THESE PLATES AT ALL FOUR CORNERS OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE READ ONLINE OF OTHER IMPALAS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, WHERE PEOPLE HAD CUT OR BENT THE STRUT PLATES, BUT THIS IS SOMETHING I WOULD RATHER NOT DO. *TT
TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON. LOST POWER TO THE ENGINE AND HAD TO STOP. TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. WAITED 10 MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR. RAN FINE UNTIL I GOT HOME. THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES BEFORE I TOOK THE CAR IN. FOUND OUT IT WAS AN ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR.
A FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED A BUBBLE PROTRUDING FROM A SIDEWALL CRACK ON THE INSIDE OF MY GOODYEAR LS-2 TIRE. A SECOND LS-2 FAILED FROM A SIMILAR SIDEWALL CRACK AT JUST OVER 30,000 MILES. MY 3RD LS-2 IS CURRENTLY FAILING ON THE INTERIOR SIDEWALL WITH ABOUT 48,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE TREAD WAS GOOD ON ALL TIRES REPLACED. *TR
FRONT TIRES HAVE EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE TIRES ONLY. ORIGINAL GOODYEAR INTEGRITY TIRES ARE STILL ON THE CAR. REAR TIRES ARE FINE AND LOOK "NORMAL". AFTER READING ABOUT OTHER ISSUES LIKE THIS IT MAKES ME BELIEVE THERE IS SOME SORT OF ISSUE WITH THE ALIGNMENT OF THE CAR. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE. IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AS IT IS. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE TIRES BECAUSE THERE IS NO TREAD ON THEM EXCEPT FOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TIRES WHICH IS REALLY ODD. NOT SURE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS MY SECOND IMPALA AND I'VE NEVER HAD THESE ISSUES BEFORE. I HAVEN'T CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP YET ABOUT THIS. I WILL SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY. *TR
2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POSSIBLE SPINDLE ARM PROBLEM CAUSING PREMATURE TIRE WEAR *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES TWICE, DUE TO THE DEFECT. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND SUGGESTED THE CONSUMER ROTATE THE TIRES MORE. *JB
A 2009 CHEVY IMPALA POLICE PACKAGE CRUISER CAR CAME INTO OUR SHOP THIS MORNING . THE COMPLAINT WAS OF CHIRPING TIRES SOUND AROUND TURNS.UPON INSPECTION WE FOUND THAT THE RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARM HAS BROKEN AWAY FROM THE BUSHING AREA. CAUSING THE ALIGNMENT TO BE OFF AND THE CONTROL ARM TO BE UNSTABLE. THIS CONDITION COULD HAVE LEAD TO A ACCIDENT IF GONE UNDETECTED OR RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL DURING A HIGH SPEED PURSUIT. THIS IS THE SECOND VEHICLE TO HAVE THIS CONDITION. WE HAVE GROUNDED OUR FLEET OF CRUISERS SO THEY CAN BE BROUGHT IN AND INSPECTED ONE AT A TIME.WE HAVE FOUND ONE ADDITIONAL CAR THAT THE ARM IS CRACKED BUT NOT YET BROKEN THROUGH. I HAVE A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA AND MY KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. I CAN START THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEM BUT I CANNOT DISENGAGE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I HAVE BEEN ONLINE RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE IMPALA. *TR

WHEN CAR WAS RETURNED WE NOTICED THAT WHILE GOING DOWNHILL, APPLYING THE BRAKES THAT THE FRONT SHOOK VIOLENTLY. CALLED SERVICE MGR AT GM DEALER WHO PERFORMED THIS WORK, AND HE TOLD ME NOT TO USE BRAKES GOING DOWNHILL TO MAINTAIN SPEED, BUT TO GEAR THE CAR DOWN WITH THE USE OF TRANSMISSION. I LIVE IN SOUTHWESTERN PA WHERE THERE ARE HILLS EVERYWHERE. DO I DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION USING THIS PROCESS SUGGESTED BY THE GM SERVICE MGR, OR USE BRAKES? VEHICLE HAD BAD SHIMMY AND EXTREME TIRE WEAR ON INNER EDGES AND OUTER EDGES. TOOK TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED NEEDED A TIRE ROTATION AND AN ALIGNMENT KIT - BOTH OF WHICH WOULD BE A CUSTOMER PAY ITEM. I COMPLAINED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS WAS A FACTORY DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE TIRE WEAR AND ALIGNMENT ISSUE. HE CONFIRMED MY STATEMENT BUT SAID EVEN HIS WIFE'S CAR HAS THE SAME ISSUE AND HE CAN'T GET IT COVERED BY GM AND HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO CORRECT THE SITUATION. I HAVE ROTATED THE TIRES PER THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATIONS, I PAID TO HAVE THE VEHICLE ALIGNED, AND I AM STILL WEARING THROUGH TIRES AT AN ALARMING RATE - CLOSE TO EVERY 16K-19K MILES. THE TIRES ARE BALD ON THE INNER AND OUTER EDGES, BUT HAVE TREAD IN THE MIDDLE. WE HAVE BEEN DIE-HARD CHEVROLET PURCHASERS, BUT THIS IS OUR LAST PURCHASE FROM GM UNLESS THEY STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR MANUFACTURING DEFECTS AND CUSTOMERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 54,400.

I NOTICED SOME TIME BACK THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THAT I WOULD GET A ROUGH VIBRATION, SUCH AS WITH BAD ROTORS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED IT AT AND THEY LOOKED IT OVER AND STATED THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. SINCE THEN EVERYTIME I HIT THE BRAKES THE VIBRATIONS HAVE ONLY GOTTEN WORSE, IT'S TO THE POINT NOW THAT IT VIOLENTLY SHAKES THE ENTIRE CAR AND FEELS AS IF IT'S GOING TO JERK THE STEERING WHEEL RIGHT OUT OF MY HANDS. SO I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT FOR THIS ISSUE AND A NEW ONE; SOMETIMES MY DASH LIGHTS WILL FLICKER AND IT WILL TELL ME IT'S 102 OUTSIDE WHEN IT'S ONLY 70 AND AUTOMATIC TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR IS WAY, WAY OFF. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED RECENTLY THAT MY FRONT TIRES HAVE BECOME EXCESSIVELY WORN ON THE OUTER EDGES TO WHERE THERE IS ONLY TREAD IN THE CENTER AND THIS SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM WITH ONLY 21,500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE; I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET ABOUT TWICE THAT OUT OF THE FACTORY TIRES. AT MY LAST APPOINTMENT THEY HAVE STILL SAID THERE IS NO NOTABLE PROBLEMS WITH MY IMPALA. *TT

THE REAR POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS HAVE FAILED. THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK FAILED FIRST, THEN A FEW THOUSAND MILES LATER THE DRIVER SIDE ACTUATOR FAILED. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT WITH A 90%+ OCCURRENCE OF FAILURE. ONE OR BOTH WILL FAIL FOR WEEKS AT A TIME, BUT MAY OCCASIONALLY SURPRISE YOU AND WORK ONCE OR TWICE. THE FAILURE IS IN BOTH THE LOCK AND UNLOCK MODES. THE FAILURE IS UNRELATED TO USING KEYLESS ENTRY OR THE MANUAL SWITCH OR HAVING CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ON OR OFF. IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH THE REAR DOOR TOP MANUAL LATCH POST FROM THE FRONT SEAT. ON ONE OCCASION I WAS TRYING TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR FROM THE FRONT SEAT. MY HEAD/NECK BECAME TRAPPED BETWEEN THE SIDE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND THE DOOR PILLAR. I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE MY NECK UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO REACH THE SEAT ADJUSTING MECHANISM AND MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD. IN THE PROCESS OF THAT I AGGRAVATED A CHRONIC BACK CONDITION PULLING A MUSCLE IN MY BACK. AN INTERNET SEARCH OR DISCUSSION WITH REPAIR SHOPS WILL QUICKLY REVEAL THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE FOR MANY 2008-2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA, TAHOE, MALIBU AND SILVERADO OWNERS. DUE TO THE APPROXIMATE $365 PER DOOR REPAIR COST, THE DEFECTIVE LATCHES ARE NOT BEING REPLACED BY MANY OWNERS. CHEVROLET IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND OFFERS NO REPAIR ASSISTANCE. IN A CRASH SITUATION THE CRASH COMPUTER SEQUENCE CANNOT BE RELIED ON ACTUATE THE DEFECTIVE LOCK ACTUATORS. THE POSITION OF THE MANUAL LOCK POST DOES NOT FACILITATE MANUAL OPERATION WITHOUT EXTREME CONTORTION OF THE BODY. IN A FIRE, CRASH OR EMERGENCY IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO ACCESS CHILDREN OR PASSENGERS FROM THE REAR SEAT FOR EXTRACTION. MY SON HAS TOLD ME THAT IT IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE THAT THE REAR DOORS ON THIS GENRE OF VEHICLE ARE COMMONLY UNLOCKED AND A TARGET OF THIEVES AND POTENTIALLY CARJACKERS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INSTALLED NEW ROTORS UNDER THE WARRANTY BUT WITHIN TWO MONTHS THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN AGAIN TO A MECHANIC WHO INSTALLED NEW BRAKE PADS AND HEAT SHIELDS BEHIND THE ROTORS SO THEY WOULD NOT OVERHEAT BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN A MONTH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

THE STEERING SHAKES SO VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED WHEN NEEDED TO SLOW SUDDENLY IN TRAFFIC OR LEAVING THE INTERSTATE THAT HAVE TO RELEASE THE BRAKE AND APPLY BRAKE SEVERAL TIME TO SLOW DOWN. INSTALLED NEW ROTORS AND LESS THEN 3000 MILES HAD TO HAVE THEM TURNED ALSO BALANCE ALL WHEELS, THEY WARPED AGAIN AFTER NOT EVEN 500 MILES. I'M AFRAID WHEN I NEED TO USE THE BRAKES IN A EMERGENCY SITUATION I AM NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP IN TIME.
THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH CHEVY IMPALAS, HOWEVER GM REFUSES TO DO A RECALL. SOMEONE WILL DIE AGAIN AT THEIR HANDS. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, ALL OF A SUDDEN A "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" MESSAGE POPS UP, THEN "REDUCED ENGINE POWER", THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOSES POWER AND THE SPEED IS CUT ALMOST IN HALF VERY ABRUPTLY. ONE TIME, THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST ALL ELECTRICAL AND POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS STUCK WITH NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES, ETC AND HAD TO NAVIGATE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT KILLING MYSELF. I HAVE FINALLY FIGURED OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE MANY FORUMS THAT ARE POPPING UP WITH OTHER OWNERS DESCRIBING THEIR FIXES. TURNS OUT IT IS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. DEALER FOUND AND REPAIRED THE FOLLOWING, CPA CONNECTOR TO NOT BE PROPERLY INSTALLED - R&R CONNECTOR AND INSTALLED PROPERLY, CPA CONNECTOR UNDER SEAT TO BE OUT OF PLACE - R&R CONNECTOR AND PROPERLY INSTALLED, FOUND LOOSE CPA CONNECTOR ON PASS SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER - R&R CONNECTOR AND ADD DIELECTRIC, REINSTALL CONNECTOR AND CPA PROPERLY, FOUND PROGRAM UPDATE FOR RELATED COMPLAINT, PERFORMED PROGRAM UPDATE ON SDM AND RESET. WHILE APPLYING MY BRAKES THE FRONT END SHAKES AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKES SO BADLY, IT MAKES YOU WANT TO NOT USE THE BRAKES AND PULL YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKES APPEAR TO HAVE HARD SPOTS IN THE ROTOR. THERE ARE 35,900 MILES ON THIS CAR WHICH WE PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN JULY 2009. MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR AND SHE SAYS IT HAS VIBRATED SINCE 13,000 MILES, BUT HAS RECENTLY BEEN A MORE ALMOST VIOLENT VIBRATION WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS HAPPENS WHEN COMING OFF AN EXPRESSWAY RAMP AFTER DRIVING MAYBE 20-40 MILES AND NOT EVEN USING THE BRAKES PRIOR TO HAVING TO APPLY ON THE EXIT ON A GRADUAL SLOWDOWN, NOT A SUDDEN STOP. I CALLED 2 LOCAL DEALERS TODAY TO TRY AND GET THE CAR IN TO BE REPAIRED AND ASKED BOTH SERVICE REPS IF IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND THEY BOTH IN THE CINCINNATI AREA SAID NO, IT WAS A WEAR PROBLEM. HIS NECK AND SHOULDERS WERE ALSO INJURED AND THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A COLLISION FACILITY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 59,000.
