I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN ON A SURFACE ROAD WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSED AS NO PRESSURE FROM POWER STEERING PUMP. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT SHAFT HAD BROKEN ON THE PUMP. INSTALLED POWER STEERING PUMP KIT (06605-C) AND NEW SHAFT. REPLACED POWER STEERING FLUID. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE, ENGINE POWER REDUCED, SERVICE STABILITRAK, TRACTION CONTROL, AND THE ENGINE OVERHEATED WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE, THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP, AND THE APP SENSOR FAULT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT RECTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000....UPDATED 07/15/14 *BF
1) AIRBAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY HAS GONE ON AND OFF FOR MONTHS. I ASKED DEALER ABOUT IT, THEY SAID IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE TO DIAGNOSE BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO TRACE THE WIRING HARNESS, REMOVING SEAT AND DASHBOARD. LABOR WOULD BE EXPENSIVE. I COMPLAINED TO GM ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS AND WAS GIVEN A CASE#. I WAS TOLD CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEREFORE, IT WOULD BE MY EXPENSE TO HAVE THIS DIAGNOSED AND FIXED. DEALER SAID AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. THIS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT. FALL 2013. 2) THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER STOPPED WORKING LAST FALL 2013. I HAD TO PAY FOR TOTAL REPAIR AS IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID IT WAS A WIRING ISSUE. IMPALA'S HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUE. OCT 2013. 3) THE GAS PEDAL FELL OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. DEALER SAID THEY NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE, BUT WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THEREFORE, ENTIRE COST WAS MINE. SAFETY ISSUE. SEPT 2013 4) THE EVAP VENT VALVE AND SOLENOID HAD TO BE REPLACED. SYSTEM LEAK PRESSURIZED EVAP WOULD NOT HOLD. APR 2012 OTHER ISSUES HAVE BEEN REPORTED/REPAIRED, HOWEVER, DO NOT HAVE PAPERWORK AT TIME OF THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT FLICKERED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND THE IGNITION KEY WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,083.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE HUB BEARING WIRE AND THE WIRING HARNESS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT TWICE AND THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION WAS ALSO REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE RACK AND PINION FAILURE RECURRED AND THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
WHEN THERE IS ANY MOVEMENT TO THE CAR BEFORE STARTING THERE IS A KNOCKING THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE AIR VENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE; POSSIBLE ACTUATOR DOOR ?? ALSO, WHEN SWITCHING BETWEEN FRESH AND RECIRCULATED AIR THE KNOCKING STARTS AND LASTS 1 - 2 MINUTES. THE NOISE IS GETTING LOUDER AND I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW 36 DEGREES THE WINDOWS FOG COMPLETELY AND RUNNING THE DEFROSTER AT IT'S MAXIMUM SPEED WILL NOT CLEAR THE WINDOWS. I HAVE TO WIPE THE EXCESS CONDENSATION WITH A TOWEL TO MAINTAIN VISIBILITY. MAY HAVE TO DO WITH THE ACTUATOR DOOR BEING STUCK AND INTERFERES WITH THE DEFROSTER?? I HAVE TRIED USING RAIN-X ANTI-FOG WIPES TO NO AVAIL. NEED SOME HELP GM. *TR
WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE DASH LIGHTS DO NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND. ADJUSTMENT TO THE LIGHT/DIMMER CONTROL DO NOT MAKE THE LIGHT COME ON. THIS WILL GO ON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND THEN THE DASH LIGHTS WILL SUDDENLY COME ON. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AFTER DARK, YOU CANNOT SEE WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN, YOUR SPEED IS NOT VISIBLE, NOR ANY OF THE OTHER DASH LIGHTS. IT IS RANDOM AND NOT REPRODUCIBLE FOR SHOP TO SEE. THIS ALSO OCCURRED WITH OUR 2007 CHEVY IMPALA, PROGRESSING TO FINALLY NO DASH LIGHTS AND RESULTED IN $700 REPAIR FOR FAULTY WIRING IN STEERING COLUMN. SHOULD BE LOOKED AT FOR ROOT CAUSE AND ADDRESSED AT FACTORY BEFORE RELEASE. PLEASE, VERY ANNOYING, EXPENSIVE, AND WILL CAUSE ME TO NOT PURCHASE AGAIN. *TR
MY 2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA HAS ONLY 43, 279 MILES AND BEGAN MAKING A LOUD HIGH PITCHED SCREECHING NOISE WHILE ACCELERATING. AFTER TWO VISITS TO TWO SEPARATE MECHANICS IT WAS DETERMINED BOTH TIMES THAT A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP WAS NEEDED. BOTH MECHANICS WERE IN SHOCK DUE TO THE FAILURE AS THE AMOUNT OF MILES ON THE CAR. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER CARE AS I WAS SURE THIS WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE THIS IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR 1 YEAR AND 3 MONTHS AND FOR THIS TO FAIL I AM NOT A HAPPY CHEVROLET OWNER. GM TOLD ME I COULD HAVE IT REPAIRED AND THEN WAIT FOR THEM TO MAKE A DECISION ON WHETHER I 'QUALIFIED' FOR ASSISTANCE. HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING 50 MPH DOWN HILL, HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE PULSATING. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS A FREE ROLLING VEHICLE AND HE HAD TO GEAR DOWN WHEN DRIVING DOWN A HILL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR HAD IT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,300. UPDATED 11/18/11*LJ UPDATED 11/30/11
I HAVE NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS BUT THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHTS STARTED STAYING ON. WHEN I AM OPERATING THE VEHICLE, SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WILL TURN OFF AND SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. IN ADDITION, I HAVE HAD INSTANCES WHERE MULTIPLE LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND THE ENGINE'S POWER IS REDUCED BY 50% ACCORDING TO THE INDICATOR. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE LIGHTS "RESET". BUT THIS LATEST PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAGS HAS ME RATTLED. I REALLY DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY $1500 OR MORE TO GET NEW AIRBAGS WHEN THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND I CANNOT AFFORD A NEW CAR. *TR

I AM THE OWNER OF 3 QUICK LUBE CENTERS AND SERVICE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES PER MONTH. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VALVE STEMS ON THE NEWER TIRES WITH THE TPMS. THE METAL USED IS SUBSTANDARD, THEY BREAK VERY EASILY. I HAVE SEEN THEM BREAK BY TAKING OFF THE METAL CAP COVERING THE VALVE STEM. I HAVE HAD TO REPAIR CLOSE TO ONE HUNDRED OF THESE BECAUSE OF THE SUBSTANDARD METAL BEING USED. THIS IS A SAFTY ISSUE, I HOPE YOU CAN LOOK INTO THIS. I OWN A 2010 CHEVY IMPALA ON A SHORT TRIP TO SHANKVILLE, PA. AS I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN BY TAPPING THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND PULSATE VIOLENTLY. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS TAKING MY WIFE TO THE AIRPORT. THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO SHAKE VIOLANTLY WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES AT AROUND 60 TO 65 MPH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARPED, AND I SHOULD GET NEW BRAKES WITH NEW ROTORS. I INFORMED THE INDIVIDUAL THAT THE VEHICLE HAD JUST HAD ITS YEARLY STATE INSPECTION DONE BY THEM IN MARCH OF 2012 THIS WAS EARLY AUGUST 2012 AND THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN LESS THEN 2000 MILES. TOOK 2010 IMPALA LTZ TO HAVE OIL CHANGED AND TIRES ROTATED. THEY FOUND THE FRONT TIRES TO BE WORN BADLY ON THE INSIDE OF EACH TIRE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAD MUCH WORSE WEAR WITH THE STEEL CORDS VISIBLE. WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP WITH OVER 10,000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS 19,000. IN AN ONLINE SEARCH, WE FOUND THAT THE CAR HAD WORK DONE ON THE STEERING BEFORE WE PURCHASED IT. I WAS DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD AT 55 MILES PER HOUR IN MY 2010 IMPALA AND IT WAS JUST A NORMAL ACTIVITY NO EXCESSIVE TURNING OR DRIVING . MY LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID TO SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. 1. 2011 WAS DRIVING IN WACO, TX, AS I MADE A LEFT TURN THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON, WITHIN SEC THE CAR STOPPED. COASTED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, AFTER 5 MIN WAS ABLE TO RESTART CAR. DROVE APPROX 2 MI, MADE 2 LEFT TURNS,1 RIGHT TURN. WHEN I MADE THE RIGHT TURN, THE CAR ENGINE CAME TO A STOP. IN 10 OR 15 MIN WAS ABLE TO RESTART CAR AND DROVE APPROX 2 MI TO ALLEN SAMUELS CHEV DEALER IN WACO. THEY KEPT THE CAR A FEW DAYS, THEY DROVE IT NUMEROUS TIMES TRYING TO REPLICATE THE ENGINE STOPPAGE. THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE STOPPAGE, BUT DURING TROUBLE SHOOTING, FOUND A CABLE CONNECTOR LOOSE ON THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED THAT. THEY FELT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. 2. SEP 5, 2014. WAS ON ENTRANCE RAMP TO INTERSTATE, WAS ACCELERATING TO ENTER TRAFFIC, THE CAR ENGINE BEGAN TO STUTTER/STALL, WAS ABLE TO TURN INTO AN EXIT RAMP LANE, THE ESC INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON BRIEFLY, THEN THE WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON THAT THE ENGINE WAS REDUCING POWER, WITHIN SECONDS THE CAR ENGINE STOPPED. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. I WAITED APPROX 5 MIN, WAS ABLE TO RESTART ENGINE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, BUT I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME ON SECONDARY ROADS. (APPROX 25 MI). I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR TO WACO, CALLED A WRECKER AND HAD IT TOWED TO ALLEN SAMUELS CHEV IN WACO, TX. 3. REQUEST AND RECOMMEND: [XXX] THIS WEB SITE SHOWS MULTIPLE SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH CHEVYS OF DIFFERENT YEARS AND SHOWS THAT LIFE AND DEATH INJURIES WILL OCCUR WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPS WITHOUT ADEQUATE WARNING. 4. WHEN THE CAR IS RETURNED TO ME, I PLAN ON KEEPING THE ESC OFF UNTIL ISSUE IS RESOLVED. IN APRIL 2011, I WAS DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WARNING READ REDUCE ENGINE POWER, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, SERVICE STABILITRAC AND THEN ENGINE CUT OFF AND I COASTED TO SHOULDER OF HWY. THE CAR FINALLY STARTED BACK UP AFTER A FEW MINUTES. I HAD TO BUY $100 ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. NOW ON JUNE 28, 2013, ONLY 2 YEARS LATER, IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN SO I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER ONE. THE WARRANTY ON IT ONLY LASTED 12 MONTHS. THE 2010 IMPALA WAS AT HWY SPEEDS AND IN CRUISE CONTROL AT APPROX 65MPH. THE CAR GOT A FRONT TWITCH THAT TURNED INTO A VIBRATION. THE CRUISE STARTED TO SURGE APPROX ONE HOUR INTO THE TRIP. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT A COUPLE SECONDS LATER AND THE MESSAGE DISPLAY WAS FLASHING TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE, DRIVE AT REDUCED SPEEDS AND IGNITION FAILURE. THE TRACTION CONTROL FAILED AT HWY SPEEDS LEAVING THE DRIVER COASTING TO REDUCED SPEEDS AND THEN THE CAR SHUT OFF AT 20 MPH WITH NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKING. THE VEHICLE TIRES WERE ROTATED ON 01/26/11 IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN ON 03/18/11 FOR FRONT END NOISE (THUMP) WHILE TURNING THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN ON 07/07/11 FOR THE THUMPING NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHILE TURNING THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN ON 07/28/11 FOR A FRONT END THUMPING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE WHEELS. THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE DONE TWO THROTTLE BODY CLEANINGS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THEY WILL REPLACE THE ROTORS BUT GM WOULD NOT APPROVE REPLACEMENT ONLY TURNING ON THE ROTORS. THIS CASE HAS BEEN OPENED WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU WHOM ADVISED ME TO CONTACT NHTSA. GM REFUSES TO REPLACE PARTS BECAUSE THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM CANNOT TELL THEM WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. MAY 9TH, I PARKED MY CAR IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT . UPON TRYING TO MOVE THE CAR TO GO HOME I COULD NOT GET IT TO GO IN TO GEAR. ON 5-22-2010, WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 15-20MPH ON MY HOME STREET IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD THE LEFT FRONT (DRIVER) TIE ROD SNAPPED IN HALF SENDING MY CAR UP OVER THE SIDEWALK CURB AND INTO THE GRASS/TREES. THE CAR JERKED HARD LEFT AND WAS SURGING FORWARD AND HARD TO CONTROL AND KEPT JERKING PULLING AND SURGING FOR APPROX 75 FEET UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GAIN SOME CONTROL AND GET MYCAR BACK ONTO MY STREET AND INTO MY DRIVEWAY. WHILE ON A MEDIUM DOWNGRADE ON HWY 101 IN MARIN COUNTY, CA AT APPROX 65 MPH I SLOWLY APPLIED BRAKES TO REDUCE SPEED. THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO "CHATTER" AND I THOUGHT THE ABS SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATING. I CONTINUED TO JUST "TAP" ON THE BRAKES TO KEEP MY SPEED REDUCING TO THE LEGAL LIMIT (55 MPH) AND THE CHATTERING STOPPED WHEN SPEED WAS REDUCED AND I WAS BACK ON LEVEL GRADE. THE CONDITION HAS NOT REPEATED ITSELF WHEN DRIVING ON A LEVEL GRADE AND WITH NORMAL BRAKING WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM 65 MPH. IN AUGUST 2012 I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER FOR A MINOR WARRANTY REPAIR AND ASKED THEM TO ALSO CHECK THE BRAKES FOR ANY PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM - STILL THINKING THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE INITIAL PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND WAS CAUSED "BY THE WAY I DRIVE". I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 60 YRS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF BRAKE PROBLEM. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW IN NOV 2009 AND IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN LESS THAN 10K MILES PER YEAR - IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL 11/2012. GM REFUSES TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR PREMATURE ROTOR WARPING OR THAT THEIR BRAKE DESIGN MAYBE FAULTY, I.E. INADEQUATE COOLING FOR BRAKES, ETC. THEY WERE OF ABSOLUTELY NO HELP IN ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM SEEKING TO PUT ANY BLAME SOLELY ON THE DRIVER. HOW CAN ONE RESPOND TO THAT KIND OF ATTITUDE. THE NHTSA SHOULD MAKE GM CERTIFY THAT THEIR BRAKE SYSTEM, MATERIALS, BRAKE COOLING DESIGN, ETC. COULD NOT POSSIBLE CAUSE ANY FORM OF BRAKE ROTOR WARPING IN A VEHICLE DRIVEN LESS THAT 25K MILES.
