TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE HEAD REST BLOCKED THE CONTACT'S VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD REST WAS LEANING ENTIRELY TOO FAR FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURY TO THE CHEST AND BACK. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF THE OPPOSING VEHICLE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HANDS AND CHEST. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO ASSIST AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE HEAD RESTS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR HEAD RESTS ARE THREE INCHES TO HIGH AND TOO WIDE. THE THREE HEAD RESTS BLOCK ALMOST 40% OF THE VIEW LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND OUT THE BACK WINDOW. THE PROBLEM IS THEY CANNOT BE FOLDED DOWN OR REMOVED. *JB UPDATED 10/20/11.*JB
AFTER THE NOVELTY OF MY NEW CARE WORE OFF, I BECAME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM OF LIMITED VISIBILITY WHEN LOOKING OUT THE REAR WINDOW. THE MIDDLE HEADREST IN THE BACK SEAT OBSCURES MUCH OF THE WINDOW! I AM EXTRA CAREFUL WHEN BACKING UP BECAUSE OF THIS LIMITED VISIBILITY. I AM CONCERNED WHEN MY KIDS DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE, AS YOU KNOW, YOUNGER DRIVERS DON'T ALWAYS LISTEN TO THEIR PARENTS. IN ADDITION, MY DAUGHTER ISN'T NEARLY AS TALL AS I AM AND THE BACKSEAT MIDDLE HEADREST IS EVEN MORE OF AN ISSUE WITH SHORTER PEOPLE. PURCHASED 2011 IMPALA LT/4 DOOR SEDAN 3 WEEKS AGO. REAR CENTER HEADREST COMPLETELY BLOCKS THE VIEW OF VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND, WHICH PREVENTS YOU FROM SEEING THE CAR IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS ALSO POSES A HAZARD WHEN BACKING UP, DUE TO 90% SIGHT BLOCKAGE. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED BY GM TO REMOVE THE CENTER REAR HEADREST FROM THIS VEHICLE. THE 2012 MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A CENTER HEADREST. IT ONLY HAS HEADRESTS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT, WHICH PROVES THIS IS AN ISSUE THEY HAVE CORRECTED FOR THE NEWER MODEL. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IN THE 2011. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF VISIBILITY. *TR

MILEAGE 9948 ON 8/20/2013 WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE POWER STEERING ABRUPTLY QUIT WORKING. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY DEALERSHIP (AL SERRA CHEVROLET NORTH - COLORADO SPRINGS) UNDER WARRANTY. MILEAGE 23429 ON 8/13/2014 WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE POWER STEERING ABRUPTLY QUIT WORKING. VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. MILEAGE 27130. ON EACH OCCASION DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE SEAL FOR INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON RACK AND PINION FAILED AND THE RACK AND PINION WERE REPLACED. PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR THIS VEHICLE. . .
BOUGHT 2011 IMPALA, REAR SEAT HEAD RESTS OBSTRUCTING VIEW ON REAR VIEW MIRROR. VERY HAZARDOUS, WILL PROBABLY CAUSE MANY ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLY DEATHS. LOT OF PERSONS COMPLAINING TO DEALER AND GM AND THEY SAY NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS. THEY HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED AND THEIR REFUSAL TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. *KB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE COULD REMOVE THE HEADRESTS AT HIS OWN DISCRETION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5.
5 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE IMPALA I SLICED MY LEG QUITE SEVERELY (2"X3" AND 1/2" DEEP) SIMPLY BY CLOSING THE DOOR. THE BOTTOM CORNER OF BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR COME TO A VERY SHARP POINT. BECAUSE OF MY AGE AND SIZE I NEED STAND FAIRLY CLOSE TO THE DOOR TO CLOSE IT. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN AND ELDERLY, ACTUALLY ANYONE WHO MAY BE A LITTLE WEAKER THAN AVERAGE. I TRIED TO RETURN OR EXCHANGE VEHICLE BUT DEALERSHIP WANTED ME TO TAKE A $4315 LOSS. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS VEHICLE AND DEALERSHIP

THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE GETTING IN TOUCH WITH THE CONTACT AT A LATER DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,300.

REAR SEAT HEADRESTS (3) ARE EXTREMELY HIGH MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR DRIVER TO SEE VEHICLES IN REAR. DIFFICULTY IN BACKING CAR, AS WELL AS CHANGING LANES. HEADRESTS ARE SEWN INTO REAR SEAT; NON-ADJUSTABLE. HAD TO HAVE MIDDLE HEADREST REMOVED PERMANENTLY. *TR

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000.

THE CONTACT ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT HE COULD NOT SEE WHEN USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR DUE TO REDUCED VISIBILITY CAUSE BY THE HEAD RESTS ON THE REAR SEATS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIEW WHEN USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS OBSTRUCTED BY APPROXIMATELY SEVENTY PERCENT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE HEAD LIGHTS FROM VEHICLES IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR WOULD INTERMITTENTLY DISAPPEAR DUE TO THE REDUCED VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118.
I CANNOT SEE WHEN USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR DUE TO THE REDUCED VISIBILITY CAUSED BY THE HEAD RESTS ON THE REAR SEATS. THE VIEW WHEN USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS OBSTRUCTED SIGNIFICANTLY WITH ONLY 4 INCHES OF VISIBILITY BETWEEN THE CEILING OF THE THE CAR AND THE TOP OF THE HEAD RESTS. ALSO, THE SIDE MIRRORS ARE SMALL INCREASING THE POOR VISIBILITY IN THIS VEHICLE. THE HEAD REST PROBLEM WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTICED IF THE CAR SALESMAN HAD NOT SAT IN BACKSEAT IN THE MIDDLE. THE CAR DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED THAT THE CAR BE TAKEN TO A LOCAL SEAT COVER COMPANY TO HAVE THE HEADRESTS REBUILT. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND SHOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS SUCH AS THIS.

IN ADDITION, HE STATED THAT THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS WERE ABNORMALLY SMALL. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE, STATING THAT THEY COULD NOT ALTER THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC COULD POSSIBLY LOWER THE SEAT OR CUT DOWN THE HEADREST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 500.

THE REAR SEAT HEAD RESTS ARE TOO TALL AND BLOCK VISION ESPECIALLY CENTER HEAD REST,MAKES BACKING UP VERY DIFFICULT, ALSO WHILE DRIVING BLOCKS VISION OF ANY THING BEHIND YOU .THESE ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE OR REMOVABLE.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,500.

THE REAR CENTER HEAD REST NEEDS TO BE REMOVED CAN'T SEE TO BACK UP THEY ALL ARE VERY LARGE BUT THE MIDDLE BLOCKS YOUR VIEW TOTALLY SOMEONE WILL GET HURT DUE TO THIS ISSUE IF ITS NOT TAKEN CARE MAYBE THEY CAN'T REMOVE THE HEADREST ITSELF BUT THEY CAN REPLACE THE WHOLE SEAT. I THOUGHT SEATS IN THE BACK WERE SUPPOSE TO FOLD DOWN ALLOWING ACCESS TO THE TRUNK THIS AUTO DOESN'T DO THAT THERE AREN'T EVEN CUPHOLDERS IN THE BACK SEAT THIS WAS DEFINITELY NOT A GOOD DESIGN FOR GM. *TR
I WANT TO ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE LIST THAT INCLUDES MANY OTHERS REGARDING THE THREE HEAD RESTS BUILT INTO THE REAR SEAT. THEY SIGNIFICANTLY LIMIT THE DRIVER'S FIELD OF VISION, AND THUS CAN AFFECT THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
MY COMPLAINT WITH THIS VEHICLE IS VISIBILITY CAUSED BY THE REAR HEADRESTS WHEN USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. GM BUILT THE BACK SEAT WITH 3 LARGE HEADRESTS "WHICH CANNOT BE REMOVED" THAT BLOCKS ALMOST THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, THE MOST I CAN SEE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS THE TOPS OF THE CAR(S) BEHIND ME, SOMETIMES NOT THAT MUCH. WHEN BACKING UP, YOU HAVE TO LOOK AROUND ALL THREE BACK HEADRESTS IN ORDER NOT TO HIT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. THESE BACK SEAT HEADRESTS CAN BE REPLACED BY BUYING THE 2012 IMPALA HEADREST COMPONENTS FROM GM WHICH COST AT LEAST $400.00 JUST FOR THE 3 PARTS NEEDED. I FEEL LIKE GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE BACK SEAT HEADRESTS DUE TO THE HAZARD POSED BY THE HEADRESTS. *KB
HUGE REAR HEADRESTS (3 OF THEM) BLOCK NEARLY 70% OF REAR VISIBILITY AND MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE VEHICLES DIRECTLY BEHIND OR APPROACHING FROM BEHIND. EVEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE MIDDLE HEADREST BLOCKS THE VIEW OF ANY VEHICLE BEHIND. CHANGING LANES IS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS, AT BEST, BECAUSE DRIVER CAN'T SEE WHAT'S DIRECTLY BEHIND. TRIED SEAT ADJUSTMENTS, OUTSIDE MIRROR ADJUSTMENTS, REAR VIEW MIRROR ADJUSTMENTS, AND NOTHING WORKS TO IMPROVE THE REAR VIEW. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION, WHICH HAS APPARENTLY BEEN ADDRESSED IN THE IMPALA FOR 2012; WHY HAS CHEVROLET NOT CONTACTED DRIVERS FOR A SAFETY FIX OR RECALLED? I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALER AND AM STILL WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. IN THE MEANTIME, WE ARE HOPING NO ACCIDENTS OCCUR AS A RESULT OF THIS POOR VISIBILITY ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT CHEVY WOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT LIABILITY, IF NOTHING ELSE. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE ARE FIXES FOR THIS, SHORT OF SAWING OFF THE MIDDLE HEAD REST? MY FIRST ISSUE WAS WITH THE CENTER HEAD RESTRAINT IN THE BACK WHICH TOTALLY BLOCKS VISION USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. I ASKED THE DEALER TO REMOVE IT AND I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT. BACKING UP IS IMPOSSIBLE EXCEPT WITH THE SIDE MIRRORS AND TRAFFIC IMMEDIATELY BEHIND IS BLOCKED WHEN DRIVING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS BUT GM REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL TO ADJUST THESE HEADRESTS. ALSO, I LIVE IN THE TN MOUNTAINS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPLETELY DISENGAGES WHEN GOING DOWNHILL.
