WITHIN 8 MONTHS I AM NOW ON THE THIRD SET OF ROTORS ON A NEW CAR. ALSO, IT FEELS LIKE IT IS WOBBLY OR SHAKY IN THE FRONT TIRES, POSSIBLE BAD BELTS, UNSURE, BUT WORRIED ABOUT THE FIRESTONE RECALL GOING ON.( DOT NUMBER: 027487 TIRE SIZE: P215/60R15 )
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE VEHICLE WILL STOP; HOWEVER IT WILL CONTINUE TO ROLL. THE DEALER HAS REPAIRED THE VEHICLE 5TIMES.
CONSUMER IS EXPERIENCING FRONT END VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING DUE TO DEFECTIVE BRAKE ROTORS, DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM BUT ARE UNABLE TO REPAIR AT THIS TIME BECAUSE THE ROTORS ARE ON BACK ORDER AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL COME IN. NLM

THE DEALER REPLACED MY ROTORS 3 TIMES AND REPLACED MY PADS ONCE WHICH WAS ON MY LAST BRAKE REPLACEMENT VISIT AROUND 3 MONTHS AGO... NO PROBLEMS SO FAR. I ALSO COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE VEHICLE JERKING, I GOT A FOLLOW UP CALL FROM A FOREMAN AND THE GUY WHO INSTALLED MY DASHBOARD ASKING ABOUT THE CAR OVERALL, I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE CAR JERKING HE ASKED WHAT KIND OF GASOLINE DO I USE, I TOLD I ONLY HAD 3 FILLUPS SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND I USED BP OIL....HE TOLD ME TO USE SHELL GASOLINE, IT DID HELP THE PROBLEM BUT THE PROBLEM NEVER WENT AWAY..... ALSO IN THE MORNINGS WHEN THE CAR IS COLD , I START MY CAR AND I HEAR ALL KINDS OF CLICKING AND TICKING NOISES FROM THE ENGINE.......THE CAR SURGES AND HAS COMPLETLY CUT OFF ON ME TWICE WITHIN THE PAST YEAR AND IT DO IDLED VERY VERY LOW SOMETIMES..........CHEVROLET ALSO DID A VERY POOR JOB WITH THE PAINT ON MY CAR UNDER THE DOORS AND HOOD THERE IS SOME SPOTS WERE THERE IS NO PAINT AT ALL.....THE DEALER OFFERD TO HAVE THOSE SPOTS TOUCHED UP BUT IT HAS TO GO TO THE BODY SHOP FOR A FEW DAYS........... WHILE TRYING TO ENTER A HIGHWAY RAMP ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT CONSUMER FROM BEHIND, CAUSING CONSUMER TO HIT A ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY . PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
I WAS TODAY ALERTED BY THE AUTO MECHANIC SERVICING MY CAR THAT MY TIRES -ESPECIALLY THE TWO FRONT TIRES - WERE SHOWING SIGNS OF TREAD SEPARATION. IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THAT THEY ARE FIRESTONE TIRES WITH LESS THAN 12000 MILES ON THEM, AND CONSIDERING THAT THE DAMAGE I SEE IS IN THE EXACT LOCATION WHERE OTHER FIRESTONE TIRES HAVE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION, I FELT I NEEDED TO REPORT THIS TO NHTSA AND TO MY CHEVROLET DEALER. THESE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED TWICE SINCE I PURCHASED THIS NEW VEHICLE LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, AND THE PROPER TIRE PRESSURE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED. BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT HAVE BEEN CHECKED AT EACH SCHEDULED SERVICE. THE UNUSUAL WEAR ON THE TIRES IS EASILY VISIBLE, AS ARE THE LONG CRACKS WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE REST OF THE TIREWALL. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL TIRES WHICH CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CAR IS HOUSED IN A GARAGE OVERNIGHT AND IS MINIMALLY EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. I HAVE NOT MADE ANY LONG ROAD TRIPS IN THIS CAR, NOR HAVE I HAD ANY PUNCTURES, FLAT TIRES OR ANY OTHER DAMAGE TO MY TIRES OR RIMS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I SHOULD PROCEED WITH THIS. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE CONSUMERS BRAKES ON FOUR OCCASIONS WITH NO SUCCESS, THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE LEMON LAW APPLIES TO THIS VEHICLE. NLM
KEY WAS IN THE IGNITION IN A ACC POSITION WHEN CONSUMER'S NEPHEW CHANGED GEARS WITHOUT DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL, CAUSING VEHICLE TO ROLL DOWN THE HILL. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT STATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THOSE TYPES OF VEHICLES. CONSUMER CHECKED OWNERS MANUAL AND FOUND THAT BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED IN ORDER TO CHANGE GEARS. *AK
FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ARE WEARING EXCESSIVELY. CONSUMER HAS REPLACED BRAKE ROTORS ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. ALSO, WHEN APPLYING BRAKES TO MAKE A GRADUAL STOP VEHICLE SKIDDED TO A STOP, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. MANUFACTURER LINKED THE PROBLEM TO NON-ADJUSTMENTS TO BRAKES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK

WITHIN THE FIRST 18000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE AMY FRONT ROTORS. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THEY SAID NO. I HAD TO PURCHASE NEW ROTORS AND THEN WITHIN 8,000 MILES THEY STARTED GRINDING AGAIN. WHEN THE ROTORS GO BAD, IT MAKES THE CAR SHIMMY WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND WHEN I STOP. I CURRENTLY HAVE MY CAR IN A SHOP OTHER THAN THE DEALERSHIP TO PUT ON THE THIRD SET OF ROTORS AND I ONLY HAVE 32800 MILES ON THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY THEM $35 FOR THEM TO LOOK AT MY CAR AND SEE IF THEY CAN FIND A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT ANYWHERE. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY THEM THAT AMOUNT BECAUSE I AM CONSTANTLY PAYING TO HAVE NEW ROTORS PUT ON. NOT TO MENTION I HAVE TO MISS WORK A LOT FOR VARIOUS TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO FAULTY BLINKERS, KNOCKING NOISES, LIGHTS SURGING, ETC. WHEN PEOPLE DON'T WORK, THEY DON'T GET PAID!*AK
THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU IS INADEQUATE. MY VEHICLE HAS 31000 MILES ON IT AND DURING BRAKING IT HAS A SHIMMY ON OCCASIONS. THE DEALER STATED THIS WAS DUE TO THE BRAKE PADS BEING WORN AND THE BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TURNING. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND THIS AND SOME TIRE PROBLEMS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR COMPLAINT FROM OTHER MALIBU OWNERS WHO'S PROBLEMS HAVE STARTED SOONER THAN MINE IN MOST CASES IN FACT IN SOME CASES WHILE THE CAR IS STILL UNDER THE 12000 MILE WARRANTY. IT BEING A BRAKE AND TIRE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE PUTTING SOME LIVES AT STAKE. I MYSELF CONTACTED CHEVROLET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SIMPLY STATED I'M SORRY YOUR HAVING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR CAR. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE BRAKES ARE TERRIBLE, THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD DO NO MORE AND THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN THE MALIBU CARS ARE DEFICIENT, CONSUMER IS CONCERNED AND DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *SLC
ROTORS GLAZING TWICE WITHIN 21,000 MILES. WAS TOLD THE ROTORS COULD BE REPLACED,BUT EXPECTED IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN DUE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS.
THE BRAKES ARE BEING REPLACED ALL THE TIME. CHEVY CONTINUES TO SAY ITS JUST NEEDS BRAKE PADS EVERY THREE MONTHS. THE FRONT BRAKES SOUND LIKE THE CAR IN FALLING APART. THERE HAS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM. *AK
BARKES WORKED ON DUE TO VIBRATION, PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED. SECOND TIME FAILED TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, REPLACED ROTORS AND PADS AGAIN. THIRD TIME CAR STARTED VIBRATING IN THE FRONT END, REPLACED PAD AND ROTORS AGAIN.
BRAKE FAILURE EVERY 10-15 THOUSAND MILES. HAS TO REPLACE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. MECHANIC STATES THAT PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. *AK
THE ROTORS ON THIS CAR HAVE BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES AND ARE READY TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AND IT HAS BEEN LESS THAN 4K MILES THIS TIME. THE DEALER HAS ADMITTED TO ME THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS FOR THE MALIBUS' BUT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THEM. I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL WEB SITES THAT DETAIL COMPLAINTS ABOUT MALIBU ROTORS AND EVERYONE IS REPORTING ROTOR FAILURE AND REPLACEMENT BEFORE THEY REACH 15000 MILES. THIS IS THE SECOND MALIBU I HAVE OWNED THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE INVESTIGATE, THE TIME, MONEY AND HASSLE THAT GM IS CAUSING OVER THIS IS RUINING AN OTHERWISE NICE CAR.*AK

I HAVE ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHEVROLET ON 8/14/01 FILE NUMBER C05305523. THEY SAID THEY DO NOT CONSIDER THE FRONT BRAKES WEARING OUT EVER 6 - 10 THOUSAND MILES A PROBLEM. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO CONSIDER A RECALL. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DO THEY NEED. I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE OWNED A CAR IN WHICH THE BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED EVER 6 - 10 THOUSAND MILES. THIS IS CONSIDERED STANDARD MAINTENANCE BY THE DEALER AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT UNDER MY WARRENTY. THEREFORE, I WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC THAT WAS CHEEPER THEN THE DEALER TO REPLACE MY BRAKES 3 TIMES. 4TH TIME COMMING IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. I WISH SOMONE WOULD MAKE CHEVROLET RECALL THE CAR AND FIX THE FRONT BRAKE PROBLEM. I DON'T MIND STANDARD MATIENCE AT A REASONABLE / COMPARABLE MILEAGE RATE.*AK

I REALIZE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM MY CAR SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT INDICATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE MANY TIMES WITHOUT RESULTS. IF THERE ARE OTHERS WHO WOULD CARE TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AS A GROUP PLEASE CONTACT ME. *AK
PUT 3 SETS OF BRAKE PADS & ROTORS (AT 16,000, 33,000, 42,000) ON THIS CAR & NOW NEEDS REPAIRING AGAIN. HAD FRONT END COLLISION, HEAD HIT STEERING WHEEL BUT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ENTIRE FRONT OF CAR WAS COMPLETELY CRUSHED. BRAKES FAILED 3 TIMES. WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A WRECK IF SOMETHING HAD BEEN IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER REPAIRS FROM WRECK, LEAKING COOLANT - RESULTED IN BLOWN HEAD GASKET. EDWARDS CHEV & ADJUSTER SAID WAS NOT FROM WRECK - PROBLEM PROBABLY STARTED BEFORE WRECK. CAR IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER WHEN PARKING. FEELS LIKE THERE IS NO POWER STEERING.*AK
THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED RUST SPOTS ON ALMOST ALL EXTERIOR PANELS NINE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. THE MANUFACTURER'S BODY SHOP SAYS THE RUST WAS DUE TO METAL FLAKES FLYING OFF OF THE BRAKE DRUMS AND LANDING ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. *YH

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND APPLYING BRAKES, THE FRONT END WILL VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. MECHANIC STATED ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, IT WILL BE COVERED AT CONSUMERS EXPENSE BECAUSE THERE WAS 36000 MILES ON VEHICLE, AND CONSUMER BOUGHT VEHICLE BRAND NEW.*AK CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN IN EARLY 2001 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *SLC

TURN SIGNAL PERFORMS ERRATICLY GOING ON/OFF WHILE IN USE AT VARIOUS TIMES. DEALERSHIP INSTRUCTED OWNER TO USE HAZARD LIGHTS UNTIL PART IS REPLACED. CURRENTLY, HAZARD LIGHTS ARE INOPERATIVE. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS.*AK
ON 4 OCCASIONS THE TONGUE HAS BEEN "FALSE LATCHED" INTO THE BUCKLE. ON 1 OCCASION I TRAVELLED OVER 12 MILES, CAME TO A STOP & IT OPENED. ON THREE OCCASIONS IT OPENED WHEN I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVE. ON EVERYONE OF THESE OCCASIONS, THE SEAT BELT LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT OUT AND REMAINED OUT UNTIL THE TONGUE TOTALLY DISENGAGED FROM THE BUCKLE. I DO NOT SPECIFICALLY RECALL HEARING THE "CLICK" BUT I DO SPECIFICALLY RECALL FEELING AS IF THE TONGUE HAD ENGAGED, BUT APPARENTLY IT WOULD "HANG" ON THE LOWER LEFT INBOARD CORNER OF THE BUCKLE. (IF THAT MAKES SENSE.) I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THE REPLACEMENT PART FOR IT WILL BE INSTALLED THIS MONDAY, JULY 1ST. THE SERVICE MAN SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND IT WOULD BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY (ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY), BUT HE WOULD NOT (OR COULD NOT) TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I KNOW IN THE "REAL WORLD" "FALSE LATCH" CAN NOT OCCUR. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THESE EVENTS CONTRADICT THIS THEORY.*AK
