PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC ANTI THEFT CONTROL ON 2001 MALIBU. *MR WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO STAR THE VEHICLE, WITH THE KEY PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER, IT WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ELECTRONIC ANTI-THEFT CONTROLLER FAILED. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPLACED PART. *NM
CONSUMER STATED WHILE TURNING LEFT STEERING WHEEL GOT STIFF. THEN, AFTER THE TURN WAS COMPLETED HE HAD TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL BACK. CONSUMER WILL TAKE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC, BUT SOMEONE TOLD HIM THAT THERE MAY BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON HIS OTHER CHEVROLET VEHICLE. *AK
FRONT BRAKES WORE OUT PREMATURELY, DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
NOTICED SMELL OF BURNING COOLANT AND TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. GM DEALER REPLACED INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. CONTACTED CHEVROLET DIRECTLY BY PHONE, WHO DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT PROBLEM WAS COMMON, NOR OFFER ANY TYPE OF COMPENSATION. TOTAL SERVICE COST 1050.19 (PARTS AND LABOR). *NM
AFTER TURN SIGNAL RECALL WAS PERFORMED, CONSUMER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THEM WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. *PH AFTER THE DEALER PERFORMED RECALL 03043 THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT SINCE THEY REPLACED THE RECALL COMPONENT THAT THE PROBLEM HAD TO BE WITH ANOTHER PART. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIR. THE EVAPORATOR VENT SOLENOID AND GAS CAP WERE NOT HOLDING PRESSURE, AS A RESULT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *NM
SUDDEN FUEL PUMP FAILURE AND CONSEQUENT VEHICLE STOPPAGE LED TO HAZARDOUS ROADWAY SITUATION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. THE DUAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED. NO INJURIES REPORTED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *MR
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN A HOSPITAL PARKING STRUCTURE THE GAS THROTTLE GOT STUCK AND I HIT A BRICK WALL APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MILES IN HOUR. I WAS ONLY APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET FROM THE WALL SO IT WAS A HARD IMPACT. THE AIRBAGS INFLATED IN I HAD MINOR DAMAGES TO MY FACE AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND I WAS APPROXIMATELY GOING 2-3 MILES IN HOUR BECAUSE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING THE VEHICLE. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY TOTALED AND MY HUSBAND AND I ARE NOW IN THE DEFICIT OF $4,000 AFTER THE INSURANCE PAYOFF.*AK
IT APPEARS THAT GM'S CLAIM THAT IT COMPLETED THE TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD WARNING SWITCH IS NOT ENTIRELY ACCURATE. MY SIGNAL WARNING RELAY, SITUATED IN THE HAZARD WARNING SYSTEM, HASN'T STOPPED CLACKING FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS. PERHAPS IT IS THE ONE THAT SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACK. THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING (NOT RESOLVED).
IN MARCH 2004 I WAS TOLD BY CHEVY DEALER MY INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET HAS A SEVERE LEAK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 800.00. I CALLED GM AS THE CAR ONLY HAS 50,170 MILES ON IT-THEY INFORMED ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT AS THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED! IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WAY THE ORIGINAL GASKET WAS MADE,THEN WHY HAS GM SINCE RE-DESIGNED THE OLD GASKET WHICH IS WHAT HAS TO BE USED TO FIX ? THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING ON THE MALIBU'S,AND I NEED HELP TO GET THIS REPAIR DONE. I AM A SINGLE PARENT AND CAN NOT AFFORD THIS REPAIR,NOR AFFORD TO CONTINUE TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE I AM TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE. PLEASE HELP. *JB
ANTI THEFT SYSTEM THAT IS INSTALLED IN MY CAR KEEPS GOING OUT. WHEN IT DOES GO OUT MY CAR WILL NOT TART AND I HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER SHIP TO HAVE IT EITHER REPLACED OR REPROGRAMMED. I JUST HAD IT IN THE SHOP ON 2-27-04 AND THEY SO CALLED REPROGRAMMED IT AND NOW ON 3-1-04 I WENT TO THE STORE AT 7 PM COME BACK OUT TO GO HPME AND MY CAR WILL NOT CRANK. DRIVING AT HWY SPEED CHECK COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON ADDED COOLANT TOOK TO LOCAL GARAGE. THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF APPROX. $900. IT ONLY HAS 44,000 MILES AND I HAVE HAD ALL THE REQUIRED SERVICING DONE TO THIS CAR.THE GARAGE TECH SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS ON SEVERAL OTHER MALIBU'S. THIS MUST BE A DEFECTIVE PART AS IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACED THIS SOON. WHAT CAN BE DONE? *LA
EVERY 15,OOO MILES BRAKES FAILED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, DEALER STATED WHEEL BEARING MALFUNCTIONED. *AK
I HAVE 43,000 MILES ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND HAVE BEEN TOLD MY HEAD GASKETS ARE LEAKING. ANTI FREEZE IS LEAKING EXTERNAL TO THE ENGINE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR MAINTAINED AND SEE NO REASON A HEAD GASKET SHOULD FAIL WITH ONLY 43,000 MILES, THE MECHANIC SAID THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE. IF THE LOCAL MECHNIC'S KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHY HASN'T CHEVROLET BEEN MADE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS DEFECT AT THERE COST INSTEAD OF THE CONSUMER FOR A KNOW DEFECT.
TURN SIGNALS MALFUNCTIONED. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WORN OUT PARTS.
WHILE DRIVING COOLANT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. CONSUMER ADDED COOLANT, AND NOTICED COOLANT STAINS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF ENGINE. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH INDICATED THAT THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS BAD.*AK
HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS SWITCH FAILED. A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND I HAVE BEEN CHECKING ONLINE FOR A REMEDY FOR THE THEFT SYSTEM THE THEFT SYSTEM COMES ON WHEN IT WANTS TO CAUSING ME TO BE STUCKON THE FREEWAY OFF RAMP FOR 10 MIN UNTIL IT STOPPED FLASHING AND BECAME SOLID, THE THEFT SYSTEM HAS PUT MY FAMILIES WELL BEING IN DANGER BELIEVE ME I LOVE THE CAR BUT IT'S THEFT SYSTEM HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD I HAVE HAD EMERGENCY'S AND HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE THEFT SYSTEM STOPPED FLASHING IF YOU COULD HELP RESOLVE THE PROBLEM IT WOULD BE GREAT I DON'T WANT CHEVY TO LOSE A LIFETIME CUSTOMER I HAVE A 2YR OLD DAUGHTER TO WORRY ABOUT AND MY CAR STOPPING AND LOCKING UP IS A DANGER THANK YOU *TR
TURN SIGNAL FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. *AK
THIS CONCERNS THE QUALITY OF A 2001 MALIBU PURCHASED NEW. THIS CAR HAS HAD A NEW ENGINE, TWO IGNITION SYSTEMS, TWO BRAKE JOBS, AND NOW A MAJOR COOLANT LEAK THAT IS TO COST OVER $800.00 TO REPAIR. IT HAS HAD TWO SETS OF TIRESAND THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS HAD TURN SIGNAL PROBLEMS, INJECTOR FUEL PROBLEMS, AND EMERGENCY LIGHT SWITCH PROBLEMS. IN OTHER WORDS THE COST OF OPERATION IS MORE THAN THE CAR PAYMENT PER MONTH. THE QUALITY OF THIS VEHICLE RANKS AS A LEMON.
SINCE I HAD BOUGHT MY 2001 MALIBU IN OCTOBER OF 2003 I HAVE HAD TO ADD COOLANT INTOT HE CAR ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY. I FINALLY GOT FED UP WITH DOIN THAT AND DECIDED TO HAVE IT PRESSURE CHECKED. ONCE I DID THAT I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE COMPANY THAT DID THE PRESSURE TEST ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE REPAIRED THIS EXACT PART IN SEVERAL OTHER CARS WITHIN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS.*AK
I PURCHASED MY CAR AT ROBBINS CHEVROLET IN HOUSTON, TX IN 2001. I ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAD BEEN HAVING ACCELERATION PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR FROM THE START. LAST MONTH THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I TOOK IT TO ROBBINS AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PCM MODULE, WHICH IS UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID THE PCM THAT WAS IN MY VEHICLE WAS NOT FOR A CHEVY MALIBU. ROBBINS SAID THE PCM WAS FOR A PONTIAC, WHICH IS A GM PRODUCT. WE HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT ROBBINS & LANDMARK CHEVY. ROBBINS WANTS US TO PAY FOR THE PCM WHICH IS UNDER WARRANTY. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A PART THAT IS UNDER WARRANTY. THE PART COULD HAVE CAME FROM THE FACTORY OR SWITCHED AT THE DEALERSHIP. DO I NEED TO TAKE LEAGAL ACTION TO GET THIS PROBLEM SOLVED??? ENGINE HAS EXPERIENCED "VALVE-SLAP" SINCE APPROX 5000 MILES. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THIS IS INHERENT IN THE DESIGN OF THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE TO MAKE IT ECONOMICAL. CHEVROLET OFFERED 100,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE. THE (CHECK ENGINE) LIGHT ACTIVATED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. CODE INDICATED "SMALL EMISSIONS LEAK". MADE SURE GAS CAP WAS ON TIGHT, THEN CLEARED CODE WITH READER - ISSUE RESOLVED. APPROX A MONTH AGO, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AGAIN. CODE WAS P1404 (TEMPORARY CODE). TRIED TO CLEAR OUT CODE WITH READER, CAME BACK. DEALER ADVISED THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY FAULTY EGR VALVE SO REPLACED THE EGR VALVE WITH GENUINE CHEVEY PART, CLEARED CODE WITH READER - APPROX 20 MILES LATER (CHECK ENGINE) LIGHT BACK ON. I SUSPECT THAT ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE VALVE-SLAP PROBLEM AND RELATED WEAR ON PISTONS. *AK
DRIVER SIDE DOOR CLICKS LOUDLY WHILE OPENING/CLOSING, IS IT A BAD HINGE? ONE OTHER PERSON HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A LUBE PROBLEM. AFRAID BAD HINGE MAY BREAK/MOVE CAUSING DOOR TO SHIFT. TURN INDICATOR WORKS INTERMITTENTLY-SAW ON YOUR SITE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH CAUSING THIS. *JB
PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURE - 29,000 MILES AND CAR NEED NEW ROTORS AND PADS. VERY LIGHT USE, HIGHWAY DRIVING, NO STOP AND GO DRIVING. *AK
MY HUSBAND GOT IN OUR 2001 MALIBU BACKED IT UP, PUT IT INTO DRIVE, BARELY TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TOOK OFF IN HIGH THROTTLE HE COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THE ACCELERATION NEXT THING HE KNEW THE CAR WAS UNDERNEATH HIS CHEVROLET 4-WHEEL DRIVE WITH A 6 INCH LIFT KIT. CAR THEN PUSHED TRUCK APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 6 FEET INTO A NEARBY OAK TREE CAUSING CAR TO BE TOTALED TRUCK TO RECEIVE EXTREME DAMAGE AS WELL. HE CALLED THE POLICE & REPORTED THE ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED GM THEY SENT AN INVESTIGATOR OUT TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE CARS ACCELERATOR. THE INVESTIGATOR HOOKED A COMPUTER UP TO THE CAR THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO RECORD THE LAST 5 SECONDS BEFORE IMPACT, TOOK SOME PICTURES, STARTED THE CAR TO LISTEN TO THE MOTOR (HE STATED THE CAR WAS STUCK IN HIGH ACCELERATION) MOVED SOME THINGS UNDER THE HOOD (THE GAS CABLE) A LOUD CLICKING NOISE WAS MADE THEN THE CAR WAS ONCE AGAIN STARTED & WAS FINE. THREE DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM GM ADVISING ME THAT THE RESULTS FOUND WERE THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE. I IN TURN ASKED FOR A COPY OF ALL INFORMATION THAT WAS USED IN DETERMINING THIS DECISION INCLUDING A COPY OF THE PICTURES THAT WERE TAKEN AS WELL. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PICTURES WERE THE PROPERTY OF GM & SOME INFORMATION WAS AS WELL BUT I COULD BE SENT A SMALL PORTION OF THE INFORMATION USED IN THIS DETERMINATION PROCESS. A WEEK LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM WHICH READ THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THE PRODUCT ALLEGATION INVOLVING MY MALIBU, BUT OUR INVESTIGATION REVEALED NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THE PRODUCT ALLEGATION. THEREFORE, GM IS UNABLE TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGES & THEY SUGGESTED THAT I RESOLVE THIS MATTER THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I LATER INVESTIGATED THIS ON THE INTERNET TO FIND THAT GM HAS ALSO BEEN HAVING SOME DEFECTS WITH THIS COMPUTER THAT RECORDS THE 5 SECONDS BEFORE IMPACT & THAT THEY HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHICH HAPPENED IN OUR CASE.
MY 2001 MALIBU HAS 45,000MILES AND I NOW HAVE TO CHANGE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET, BECAUSE IT IS LEAKING COOLANT. THIS I'M TOLD IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH THE MALIBU 3.1 LITER MOTOR. IS THIS POSSIBLE? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING?*AK I ALSO HAVE HAD THE EGR VALVE CHANGED 3 TIMES BY THE DEALER. IT NOW SEEMS TO BE FIXED?
CONSUMER NOTICED THE ORIGINAL FRONT AND REAR TIRES WERE ROTTEN FROM INSIDE TO OUTSIDE, AND ARE LEAKING AIR. FIRESTONE MODEL, SIZE, AND DOT# UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILED INFORMATION. *PH

VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN STALLING WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS ON THE ROAD. TAKEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR TESTING, BUT THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU WHICH IS CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT TURN SIGNAL OPERATION. THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE IN 2001 FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. GM ANNOUCED A RECALL IN AUGUST 2003 FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM. NHTSA ID NUMBER 03V327000. I HAVE CONTACTED GM REPEATEDLY ABOUT THIS RECALL AND KEEP GETTING TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THEY REFUSE TO TELL ME WHY IT IS NOT COVERED AND HOW THEY DETERMINED WHICH VEHICLES ARE COVERED. THEY KEEP REFERRING ME TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME IF IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I FEEL THAT GM EITHER DID NOT CORRECTLY IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM OR THEY HAVE NOT INCLUDED ALL THE VEHICLES WITH A HIGH PROBABILITY OF THIS FAILURE. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING I CAN DO TO TRY TO RESOLVE THIS IN A REASONABLE MANNER. AT THIS POINT I FEEL THE ONLY THING THAT WILL GET THEIR ATTENTION IS CORRESPONDENCE FROM EITHER THE NHTSA OR A LAWYER.
CAR RAN FINE THE NIGHT BEFORE. THE FOLLOWING MORNING VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. BATTERY IS GOOD, ALL LIGHTS AND RADIO WORK. STARTER IS NOT TURNING AT ALL. CAR IS 2001 MALIBU WITH 32000 MILES. *LA

DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE TURN SIGNALS WORK INTERMITTENTLY, AND THEY SEEM TO BE GETTING WORSE. A LOCAL MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL 03V327000. BUT, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS FOR THIS PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. *AK
CAR HAVE PROBLEMS STARTING AND CONTINUOUSLY ACTS AS IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD. BATTERY WAS CHECKED AND CLEANED THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. ON A NORMAL BASIS WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED, CAR WON'T START, WHICH HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES IN A FEW MINUTES UNTIL IT FINALLY STARTS SUCCESSFULLY. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY THREE DAYS. *LA
AT 47,000 MILES MY BRAKES BEGAN TO PULSATE VIOLENTLY WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. ALSO THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. A METAL ON METAL SOUND COULD ALSO BE HEARD. THIS CAR WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE ROTORS WERE TURNED, NEW PADS WERE INSTALLED AND THE ABS LIGHT WAS RESET. AT 90,000 MILES THE EXACT SAME THING OCCURRED. THIS TIME THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED, NEW CALIPERS WERE INSTALLED (THEY WERE BINDING) AND THE ABS LIGHT WAS AGAIN RESET. *JB
FALSE FUEL GAUGE READING; NHTSA TSB #031103, 3/11/2003. MY 2001 MALIBU RAN OUT OF GAS WITH FUEL GAUGE SHOWING 1/2 FULL. THE ENGINE STOPPED, POWER STEERING & POWER BRAKES WERE LOST WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AT 55MPH. LIGHT TRAFFIC VOLUMES PREVENTED THIS FROM BEING A POTENTIALLY FATAL SITUATION. THE FUEL GAUGE CONTINUES TO GIVE FALSE READINGS, CHEVROLET HAS DECLINED TO CORRECT THE FAILED FUEL GAUGE BECAUSE THE CAR IS OVER THE MILEAGE WARRANTY LIMITATIONS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS FUEL GAUGE FAILURE TO GM/CHEVROLET (CASE #1-151341797). GM/CHEVROLET HAS ISSUED A TSB #01-06-04-008D TITLED "FUEL SYSTEM - INACCURATE FUEL GAUGE READINGS" ON APRIL 2003 DUE TO THE HIGH FAILURE RATE OF THEIR FUEL GAUGES. MY UPPER AND LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS NEED TO BE REPAIRED. UNDER CA. EMSSIONS LAW THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS COVERED BUT NOT THE COMPONENTS OR PARTS. THE GASKETS SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT THIS FAST ON A NEW CAR THAT HAS BEEN KEEP IN GOOD REPAIR. THESE PARTS SHOULD BE RECALLED. *AK
ANTI-FREEZE LEAKS FROM ENGINE. AREA OF LEAK SEAMS TO BE AROUND THE MANIFOLD OR HEADS. THIS CAUSES FUMES TO INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND MAKES THE OCCUPATES DIZZY OR WITH HEADACHES.
INTERMITTENTLY, THE EXTERIOR SIGNAL LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE INTERIOR FLASHERS OPERATE NORMALLY, BUT THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT RESPOND. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *PH IF THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH IS PUSHED SEVERAL TIMES, THEN THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD WORK. *PH
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A TIRE BLOW OUT.*MR THE TIRE HAD A NAIL IN IT WHICH CAUSED IT TO GO FLAT. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP PATCHED THE TIRE INSTEAD OF REPLACING IT WITH A NEW ONE PER CONSUMER. TWELVE MILES LATER, THE SAME TO BLEW AGAIN. A SHERIFF WHO WAS DISPATCHED TO THE SCENE TOLD THE CONSUMER TO RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DEMAND A NEW TIRE. THE FAILED TIRE WAS IN SHRED'S. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY DIDN'T HAVE A NEW FIRESTONE TIRE COMPATIBLE WITH HER VEHICLE IN STOCK. CONSUMER FOUND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE AND THOUGHT SHE MAY QUALIFY FOR THE FIRESTONE TIRE RECALL. IN ADDITION, CONSUMER FELT BUYERS SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT A DOUGHNUT OR A NEW TIRE AS A SPARE. *PH *JB *JB
AS AN AUTO-TECH FOR MANY YEARS, THERE ARE TIMES WHEN A VEHICLE'S STARTER NEEDS TO BE "BUMPED OVER'' OR SHORT CRANKING TIME, TO ASSIST IN TESTING. SOME OF THE NEWER GM CARS, (1999 AND NEWER), HAVE A FEATURE THAT IS DANGEROUS FOR A TECH. THAT IS TO SAY, ONCE THE START POSITION IS REACHED BY THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE COMPUTER CONTINUES TO CRANK THE CAR, WHETHER OR NOT THE IGNITION IS HELD OVER OR RELEASED. THIS WAS UNEXPECTED AND COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR TECHNICIANS. I DO NOT KNOW THE REASON BEHIND THIS FEATURE, BUT IT WAS A RUDE AWAKENING. *LA
THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS IN MY 2001 MALIBU ARE FAILING OR WORKING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. I BARELY AVOIDED A COLLISION CHANGING LANDES ON A CITY HIGHWAY. SOMETIMES THEY COME ON TO FAIL AGAIN AFTER I OPERATE THE HAZARD LIGHTS FOR A WHILE. ALSO AFTER TURNING OFF THE MOTOR AFTER FAILURE OF TURN SIGNAL AND STARTING AGAIN THE TURN SIGNAL / HAZARD LIGHT MAY OR MAY NOT START WORKING. DEALER PIN POINTS TO HAZARD RELAIS. THIS SHOULD BE A GENERAL RECALL SINCE IT IS A WELL KNOWN AND WELL DOCUMENTED MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE ALSO LOST POWER STEERING BUT THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER. PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK TWO SEPARATED DEALERSHIPS STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL ONE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A "HICC UP" AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING WAS NOISY AND THE LEFT FRONT HUB WAS NOISY. *SCC THE FUEL PUMP AND IGNITION SWITCH AND THE CONSUMER HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. ALSO THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED. *JB

THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPED FOR 2ND TIME , IT HAPPENED AT 40,000 MILES, AND NOW ALMOST A YEAR LATER AFTER THEY WERE TURNED THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPED AGAIN! I HAVE LOOKED ON THE WEB SITES OF OTHER OWNERS, AND THE SAME COMPLAINT HAS BEEN THEIR! *AK
FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS THE TURN SIGNALS ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU HAVE WORKED INTERMITENTLY. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAD TO MISS MAKING A TURN DUE TO SOMEONE TAILGATING ME AND MY TURN SIGNAL NOT WORKING. I DIDN'T WANT TO RISK GETTING REAR ENDED. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THAT IT PROBABLY WAS THE HAZARD SWITCH WHICH I HAD REPLACED. WHY ISN'T THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS SWITCH NOT COVERED BY A RECALL. I REQUESTED THE DEFECTIVE SWITCH FROM THE DEALER AND I HAVE IT IN CASE GM WANTS IT.*AK
THE TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING AT TIMES. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU GET INTO THE CAR WHETHER THEY WILL WORK OR NOT. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE FLASHER OR SOMETHING. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE MALIBU ON THE INTERNET.*AK
